when time runs out | iv
⋆ summary: A young girl has fallen deeply ill with an unknown disease in her, so with all her free time spent in an empty hospital room, she spends it online playing video games. That's until she meets her cousins friends, one spiking her interest with his extremely vulgare language.
pairing: bakugou katsuki x reader
word count: 2.5k
warnings: none
authors note: I wanna say im so sorry for lying to yall about that extra chapter KJDFFF😭😭 ALSO @chibiiichann I APOLOGIZE FOR SPAMMING YOU WHENEVER I REPLIED TO YOU💀 A DIFFERENT ACC WOULD POP UP BUT THE FIRST CHAPTER WAS AN INTRODUCTORY CHAPTER EXPLAINING THE OC'S CONDITION JFJDJD
"HAHA! I GOTCHU NOW LOSER!" Y/N smashed the buttons on her controller, basically on the edge of her bed. A grunt was heard through her headphones, then a loud bang with laughing in the background. Y/N felt her stomach turn at the sound of this, feeling a little left out, but smiled nonetheless.
"HOW'D YOU EVEN DO THAT?!! YOU’RE DOING SOME HACKING MY GUY!" Denki yelled through the laughing in the background, hands pulling at his hair. He seriously couldn't believe it!
"I'm not! I just wanted to show Sero I'm way better at this game than you are. And turns out I am!" Y/N let out a loud laugh, falling backwards onto her pillow. After finding out that 'Tape Dispenser' went to her cousin’s school by hearing his voice in the back of Denki's room, she got to learn more about this Sero dude. She already knew this after their last game a few nights ago, but he was so chill. It was still insane for her to find out that her cousin and online friend went to the same hero school. The coincidences in this world. Y/N thought as she grinned.
"It's okay Kaminari, you still lasted a long time! But you did get brutally beat by Y/N at the end though..." Sero said, trying to raise Denki's low spirits, but only succeeded in making him more miserable. Rustling was heard through Y/N's headphones, making it obvious that there was movement happening.
"You don't understand Sero! THIS IS THE ONLY GAME I COULD FULLY BEAT THIS GIRL IN!" Denki shook Sero by the shoulders, quickly doing the action. Cackling was heard through the speakers while the girl wiped a tear from her eye. Sero laughed along, as he was pushed to the ground by Denki. His arms were crossed as he looked away, upset that Y/N managed to finally beat him in every game they played.
"It's okay Denki, not everyone can be as good as me!" Y/N exclaimed, getting up from her bed to start taping specific parts of her room. Kaminari continued to complain about his defeat to Sero, who only chuckled in response. As she finished taping the bottom of the walls, Y/N sat back on her bed, sighing in content.
"So, how are you? I'm doing terribly after being utterly destroyed by you, by the way." Said Kaminari, opening his water bottle and taking large gulps from it. Y/N felt her face light up as she remembered to tell Kaminari of her future activity.
"Bro, you won't believe this! So, basically, they're actually letting me paint my room! All by myself! How fricking cool is that?!" The girl laughed out loud, jumping on her bed in excitement. Kaminari's eyes widen, in surprise and slight fear, sitting up and taking in the new information.
"Wait, really? But isn't that like extremely dangerous? Cuz of the chemicals and what not??" He tried his best to keep his voice leveled, not noticing Sero look at him weirdly. That guy had no idea what was happening.
"Well, they said that they were gonna do something to the paint so it won't hurt me or anything, I don't know what, but-" Y/N was cut off by an extremely confused Sero. "Wait wait wait, hold on. I don't understand what's happening. How can paint harm you? Besides like...eating it. And what do you mean by 'finally getting to paint your room?’ Silence was the only answer he got. Sero gulped in embarrassment, thinking he asked a really personal question.
"Um, it's nothing du-" A loud 'shhhhhhh' was heard from Y/N, who let out a shaky breath. She never really told anyone, it's not like she could either way, being confined in the hospital room for a long time. She pushed a loose strand of her away from her face, preparing herself to tell Sero.
"Well, the reason is because I basically live in a hospital. I can't go outside, or have 'unpurified' air, as the doctors like to say, meaning my interactions with people and the outside world are extremely limited. That means anything that's not cleared of dust and germs, I guess, can be extremely harmful for me? As pathetic as it sounds, it could actually kill me, haha." It was quiet as Sero took in the information, a large wave of emotions crashing on him. A person shouldn't have to be locked in a room for the rest of their life. Especially someone who is such a sweet person like Y/N.
"I-I'm so sorry to hear that Y/N. If you don't mind me asking, how...how long have you been in the hospital?" The young girl answered with a quick 'Two years', and that's when Sero felt his stomach twist uncomfortably. Kaminari abruptly got up and headed towards his door.
"I'm gonna get something to eat, you want something dude?" Kaminari's voice was low and trembling. It didn't take a genius to see that the blonde haired boy needed some time alone. "No thanks." Kaminari let out a hum, quickly exiting his room and closing the door shut. Sero heard the loud sniffs that slowly faded away, as he hung his head down.
"Hey, you good Sero? That was probably a lot to take in, sorry." Sero shook his head, letting a sad smile adorn his face. "It's fine, really. I actually feel honored that you're comfortable telling me. Feels like we're getting closer, to be honest." He smiled happily, meaning every word he said. And Y/N knew that. "Ha, we are though!" The air was tense, despite the two teenagers being in different rooms.
Y/N went to clear her throat, but was interrupted when a light knock echoed throughout her room. "Someone there?" Sero asked, noticing her silence and hearing the very faint knocking.
"Yeah, um Sero, I'll call you guys later, my doctor wants to talk." Y/N quickly replied, seeing Receen open the door and walk in with his thin suit on. Sero let out an ok and they hang up. Y/N finally took in how the doctor looked, noticeable eye bags under his blue-grey eyes, from lack of sleep. His dark hair slightly tousled, probably from putting on the protective helmet that came with the suit, and a small smile on his welcoming face. And a large container of paint in his left hand. Her eyes immediately lit up.
"What’s up doc? I see you have something in your hand, can I see it closer?" The small girl asked, getting up and making a grabbing motion with her hands. Receen chuckled, lifting up the paint for Y/N to see. Even if he were to hand her the container, she wouldn't be able to hold. She was just too weak. Said girl let out a high pitch 'OOOO ' in excitement.
"I'm not sure if you wanted more, but we managed to get you your favorite color! This should be enough to paint the room, you can even put a second layer if you want." Receen walked over to where Y/N put all the equipment, opening the container of paint. And with a low grunt from him, the lid was opened. Y/N watched with amazement as the doctor poured the soft looking paint into a tray. She picked up a roller near her, and drowned the roller in paint, the white fluff getting covered in color.
The two began painting, Y/N's hand shaking every now and then. After painting half the room, they sat in silence, resting for a while. Receen seemed to be tense, though Y/N didn't seem to notice since she was too happy to speak. Receen let out a breath, breaking the silence, causing Y/N to look towards him.
"I didn't get to ask you how you were, did I Y/N? How are you?" Said girl let a beaming smile spread on her face, causing Receen to slightly squint his eyes from the intensity of her smile. "Honestly, I haven't felt this happy in a very long time! I actually still can't believe you guys really let me do this! Thank you so much!"
Receen gave her a small smile while rubbing the back of his neck. "It's not a problem, you could’ve asked sooner and gotten this done a long time ago. You've been here for two years, so please don't be afraid of asking for things!" At the mention of her time spent in the hospital, Y/N lowered her head, causing Receen to wince. Well, might as well tell her. The doctor cleared his throat and began to talk.
"Y/N, as you are aware, I, along with many other doctors and scientists, have been working hard for you to be able to go outside again. To see your family, hug them, be a normal kid again." There was a pause and that alone caught Y/N's attention. She looked up at him. "There is a way for you to finally do that, Y/N."
Shock evident on the girl's face, she abruptly stood up and faced the doctor. There was absolutely no way anyone could have found a cure for someone like her. Someone who had an incurable sickness. Someone who was too sick, to even have medicine. He's lying. Y/N narrowed her eyes at the grown man sitting in front of her.
"With all due respect Doctor, I highly doubt that that's possible. Cuz, y'know? I basically have an incurable disease? I mean, like, even if you did manage to find a way for me to leave this place, how do you even know it's gonna work? I don't think you've tried this medicine since no one in recorded hospital documents in the past have had people like that checked in before-"
"How do you even know that?"
"-so how do you truly know it'll work?" Y/N quickly finished, completely ignoring his statement. Receen sighed, scratching his head. "We live in a world where quirks exist. Would you believe me if I told you centuries ago that the human race would evolve to have super powers? It's kind of like that, but not really." Y/N eyed him suspiciously. He's avoiding the question.
Receen looked straight at the girl standing in front of him. He felt slightly intimidated by her piercing gaze. He quickly looked away and got up, towering over Y/N's small frame. Then he smiled. "Y/N, you are a very sweet girl, no doubt about it. I know how much you want to get out of here, and I want to help you. My team has created this almost perfect pill, especially suited for your sickness. I know you're very cautious, just like your mother, but I can only reassure you, that these are your ticket out of here." He pulled out the bottle from his protective suit, shaking it in front of [Y/N].
Her eyes widened as she restrained herself from reaching out and snatching the bottle. Her eyes slightly narrowed as she pulled herself together. Crossing her arms and slightly tilting her upwards, she looked into the doctor's bright eyes. "There's always a catch when it comes to these kinds of things. What's the price if I take these? My lifespan shortens, I only have five hours to go outside, it drugs me or something?"
"I'm hurt you think I would just give you these without setting out the consequences." There was a slight glint in his eyes before it quickly disappeared. Y/N hummed, urging the doctor to continue.
"There are exactly 15 pills in here. And consuming just one of these bad boys right here, would allow you to go outside! Though, time is very important when taking these. You'd have 10 hours before the pills effects wear off. These would dull your hypersensitive senses, but not to a point where you can't feel, smell or do anything. No no, it'd just be like how you were before. You'd feel slightly dizzy and be a little itchy, but besides that, nothing too extreme. It just dulls all your body senses down." Receen gave Y/N a small smile. She looked a little weary, unsure if what he said was true. She looked at the bottle then back to Doctor Receen, fingers twitching every now and then. Breathing in and letting it out slowly, Y/N stared straight into the doctor's eyes.
If I take these, I can finally go out. I can hug mom and dad, I can be around Denki again. I can meet Sero face to face and feel the grass again! I can be... happy again. But if these don't actually work, I'd immediately die on the spot. I'd be able to go outside though. Aah, so much going outside, I can meet new people! I don't wanna spend the rest of my days slowly rotting away in here anyway.
"So Y/N, are you going to take them or let all our time go to waste?"
Sero looked at his hands solemnly, thinking about what Y/N had told him. He swallowed the lump forming in his throat, then lightly slapped his cheeks to stop the wave of emotions from spilling out.
"Yo, you good dude? It's not everyday I see someone willingly slapping themselves." Kaminari chuckled, walking in and closing the door with his foot as he carried a soda bottle and a bag of chips towards the boy sitting on his bed. Sero grinned, feeling the sadness of everything wash away.
"Yeah, I'm perfectly fine. But what about you though? After we had that conversation, you were, well, umm... kind of out of it." Kaminari froze, letting a dejected smile appear on his face. Dragging a hand down his face, he let out a sorrowful laugh.
"She's my best friend. My first real, true friend. She's basically my sister at this point. So when she collapsed that day, I felt my whole world crashing down. She is the sweetest, the most kindest, person I have ever met. She never let me degrade myself, alway cheered me up when people called me stupid." Kaminari rubbed his eyes, opening the bag of chips and plopping one of them into his mouth.
"It hasn't been the same ever since she left, her parents barely come over anymore, and they're always so sad whenever I see them. My own parents aren't the same either, they treated her like their own daughter. I can't even begin to imagine how Y/N feels about this all. She was the top in our grade, highest scores in our test. No one could compare to her. M-my heart breaks for her. She lost everything." Sero let that information sink in, thinking about how she was before. He smiled as he saw Kaminari's shoulders begin to shake. He cares so much for her.
He put his hand on his shoulder, watching Kaminari slowly lift his face towards him. "Come here you emotional ball of feelings." Being the friendly guy he is, Sero gave the sobbing boy a hug, cuz hugs fix everything.
"No homo though bro." And with that, they both laughed out loud, continuing their bro day.

Wanna be part of my Imagines Tag List?
Pairing: Peter Parker x Reader
Requested: Anonymous
Request: Hiii! I would like this imagine to take place through the plot line of Far From Home. Can you write an imagine with Peter Parker where him and the reader are good friends until the day she realizes that she has fallen for Peter. She’s upset with her feelings because her past relationships always ended terribly. She starts to avoid him, completely confusing him. Whenever he approaches her, she flees away. The opera performance comes and she’s sat in between him and Brad. You can decide from there
A/N: Apologies for the million year delay. Here it is though!
Warning(s): None
Word Count: 1.4K
masterlist
Peter couldn’t focus on the delicious food that was sitting on the plate in front of him. His mind was focused on the fact that you weren’t present at the dinner that was mandatory for all students on the trip. Peter knew that he wasn’t the only one wondering where you were, the supervisors were curious to where you were at as well.
“Where was she last seen?” peter overheard Mr. Harrington ask his partner. “I mean, she was with us on the tour, wasn’t she?”
Peter nodded as if he was part of the conversation. He only knew you were on the tour because that was when you started acting differently. Normally, you would have been hanging around Peter, pointing out things and making random jokes, but instead, Peter found himself getting avoided by you. At first, Peter thought you were just needed somewhere else, but he soon came to realize that you were purposely keeping away from him.
Mr. Harrington nervously tapped his foot on the ground and checked his watch. He bit his lip.
“The thing is, once everyone is done eating, we’re going to be heading to the opera,” he said, looking around at his students. “we really need to find (Y/N) before everyone finishes eating.”
Mr. Harrington and Mr. Dell split up and went their separate ways to look for you. In reality, you were just in your hotel room, and Peter knew exactly that.
—
You paced around your hotel bedroom, your mind jumbled up with thoughts and worries. You’ve been denying the fact that you were falling for your good friend Peter Parker. Your feelings for him went from neutral to having butterflies around him as well as becoming a stuttering mess around him. You knew that there was a dinner going on downstairs, but you couldn’t go on with seeing Peter’s face again.
You had already been trying to avoid him during the tour. To you, you thought that if you avoided him, you wouldn’t feel the way you felt. It was no use anyways. The thought of Peter got your riled up. You recognized the feelings you had, and you knew it was a crush. Why Peter though? Why him out of everybody? He was going to break your heart, just like your every other guy in your past relationships.
You never had faith in relationships ever since your last boyfriend who cheated on you. It was difficult to accept the fact that you had fallen for Peter, and you had fallen hard. A lard knock came from your door, startling you.
“(Y/N)? Are you in there?” it was Ned. “Um, yeah. If you’re in there, Mr. Harrington and Mr. Dell want to talk to you.”
Shoot. You had totally forgotten to tell the two teachers that you weren’t going to be attending the dinner. You take a deep breath and walk up to the door. There was a surprise on the other side of the door as you opened it, and it wasn’t the teachers. Ned smiled awkwardly and took a step back, revealing Peter standing behind him with a backpack strap drooped over his left shoulder. You realized that Peter used Ned as bait to get you to leave your room, because he knew that you wouldn’t respond to him.
The exact moment you made eye contact with those gorgeous brown eyes, the butterflies had returned. Immediately, you broke your gaze from his and scurried off.
“Oh, come on (Y/N)!” peter exclaimed, throwing his arms in the air. “What did I even do? Whatever I did, I’m sorry! Please, just stop avoiding me!”
Silent was what you stayed. You couldn’t even listen to his voice without your heart racing. Your eyes were glued on the ground, you didn’t even realize the figure in front of you. You ran into someone and fell but got caught. It was Mr. Harrington.
“(Y/N)!” he shrieked in surprise. “There you are! Oh goodness, am I happy to have found you!”
“I-I, yeah, hi.” you replied, brushing yourself off. “Um, Ned, said you needed to talk to me?”
“I was just wondering where you were, but mystery solved!” he said with a smile. “Anyways, we’re all heading down to the opera right now, so let’s get going.”
You knew Peter was only a few steps away so you sped your way ahead of Mr. Harrington. You needed to catch up to the group of students so you could hide from Peter. Mr. Harrington chuckled.
“It seems that (Y/N)’s excited for the opera.”
“No she isn’t,” peter said, passing Mr. Harrington. “she’s just in a hurry to get away from me.”
“Nobody is excited for the opera Mr. Harrington,” ned added, while also passing him. “I don’t even think you’re excited for the opera.”
Mr. Harrington blinked. “Hm, now that I think about it, I guess I’m really not.”
—
There were probably five people sat in the theater, and four out of the five were asleep. You already knew this opera was going to be a waste of your time. The only thing you were glad about was that you were part of the group that didn’t have Peter. Brad on the other hand was in it, and you didn’t particularly like Brad, but he thought you did. Brad thought everyone liked him, but in reality, everyone meant no one.
Brad walked into the middle of the aisle and sat down. You sat down beside him. Everyone started filling in the seats on Brad’s side, and people started entering on your side. Peter had barely entered and instantly saw the empty seat beside you. Peter didn’t even hesitate and raced after the seats, shoving through people. It wasn’t long until you heard Peter yelling at everyone to move out of his way. You soon realized that he was going after the seat that was empty.
“Oh crap.”
Peter annoyed a ton of people, but in the end, he was able to get the seat. You turn away from Peter and start a random conversation with Brad. All Brad did was play on his phone though, he couldn’t care less about the conversation at the moment.
“(Y/N), are you ever going to speak to me?”
You ignored him and tried to seem interested in what Brad was doing, but Brad pulled away. The lights lowered and the teachers started shushing everybody. You turn forward and watch the curtains come apart. You could easily see Peter staring at you from the side.
“(Y/N), talk to me.” he said quietly. “I want to why you’ve been avoiding me. Is it someth—”
“SHHHHHHH!” Mr. Harrington shushed Peter from behind. “Some people actually want to watch this opera.”
“I don’t.” you said, standing up from your seat. Peter raised his eyebrows. “I have to go.”
Peter tried to reach for your hand, but you were quick to climb your way out of the aisle. Peter watched as his crush slid her way out away from him. That was it. Peter was done. He was going to find out the reason no matter what. Peter wasn’t slow and climbed out the other way, only to chase you down to the hallway.
“(Y/N)!” you hear Peter call your name in the hallway. You pause in your footsteps. “Tell me why you’ve been avoiding me. You’re acting weird and it’s worrying me. I’m sure I’ll understand.”
“No, you won’t understand Peter.”
Peter furrowed his eyebrows. “And why wouldn’t I?”
“Because I’ve fallen for you Peter!” you shouted, turning around toward him. “I’ve fallen in love with you and I don’t know what the hell to do about it!”
Peter stood motionless. Speechless. He had no idea what to respond. The silence was killing you. It finally came to the fact that you had expressed your feelings and was going to get nothing in return.
“I can’t believe I just said that,” you sighed, covering your face in embarrassment. “I can’t be—”
You suddenly felt a pair of hands grab yours. Peter pulled your hands off your face and stared deeply in your eyes. He smiled.
“I know what you can do,” he whispered softly. “kiss me.”
You didn’t even have time to respond until Peter pulled you in by yours hands and smashed his soft lips upon yours. It was magical. Sparks flew everywhere. You couldn’t believe this was happening. The kiss was short and sweet.
“P-Peter,” you licked your lips. “I…”
“I love you too (Y/N),” peter said, laying his forehead against yours. “it seems that you just had the guts to say it first.”
The End

ssps prompt #10
summary: “Well I definitely do not want to be included!” “…Dee, would you like to play Twister with us?” words: 1,600 / ships: platonic dlamps? everybody’s here, kiddos. warnings: brief unconsciousness, mentions of previous injury/burn, minor injuries, potion use, a tiny bit of self-hatred. sympathetic deceit. notes: we made it!!!! for everyone that stuck through it, thank you so much. this is the first chaptered anything i have ever finished and i hope it’s satisfying. i improvised 90% of it but i think i managed to tie up all the loose ends! here are links to the parts that got us here: cursed roman (6), missing hoodie (7), sudden puppy (8), detective logan (9)
and of course, massive shout out to @sanderssidespromptsummer for coming up with all of these prompts and running this whole thing!!!!
Roman dropped the hands he was holding and collapsed.
“Ro?!” Patton cried, jumping out of his chair by Virgil’s bed and rushing to the prince’s side. “Is he okay? What happened?” He pulled Roman into his arms and patted him gently on the cheek. “Did you win? Oh, hi, Deceit — Will Virgil be okay??”
“Shhhhhhh,” Remy interrupted, appearing at Patton’s shoulder, and resting a hand on top of his head. Patton calmed slowly but surely, his panicked breathing subsiding and the tension in his shoulders melting away. The puppy Patton had practically adopted padded around the pair on the floor, whining.
“Roman’s okay,” Logan began, pulling his satchel off. “We had an encounter with the Dragon-Witch. I assume his fight with her and the magic he cast afterwards—” (“magic?” Patton whispered), “—took more energy out of him then he let on. And then, he went and sunk us out of the Fantasy Realm and directly to this room, which was foolish, to be quite honest.” Logan approached Virgil, who was stirring from his sleep due to all the noise, no doubt. “We did win and Virgil should be okay.”
Deceit took a step back, edging closer to the door. Patton caught onto the hem of his pants leg and looked up at him from where he sat, Roman still cradled against his chest. “Did you help?” He asked quietly. Tears were shining in his eyes.
Deceit caught Logan’s gaze from across the room. “He did,” Logan answered for him.
“Nice,” Remy shot finger guns to Deceit.
“Hhhnnn,” Roman groaned.
Patton gasped and looked down at him. “Ro, honey?? Take it easy, you’re safe now.”
Roman did the exact opposite of taking it easy, because of course he did. Flailing out of Patton’s hold, he sat up, and looked around the room with wide eyes. He eventually found Logan at Virgil’s side and staggered up; he swayed and very nearly fell over. Remy vanished his tumbler (was he ever without it?) with a wave of his hand and caught Roman before he could hit the floor again.
“Chill out, boss,” Remy scolded. “Sit down, I’m going to get the first aid kit.”
Patton got to his feet and guided Roman to the chair he’d previously been occupying. “I’m not worried about me,” Roman complained, gesturing to Logan. “Give him the potion already!”
“The what?” Patton asked, looking between the two.
Logan retrieved the bottle and removed the cork from it. “This was in the Dragon-Witch’s lair. Roman used a truth telling spell on her and this is the only thing that will break his curse while also stopping her from getting to anybody else.”
Roman was leaning over Virgil, pressing the back of his hand to his forehead. “His temperature hasn’t gone down, has it?” He asked Patton, worry thick in his tone. He took a fresh cloth from the bedside table and dipped it in the bowl of ice water. Laying it on over Virgil’s skin, Roman looked again to Logan. “It’ll work, right?” He sounded desperate.
Logan sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “I do not know.” He swirled the bottle slightly in his grasp, watching as the liquid moved with the motion. “This is all very… foreign to me.”
“Only one way to find out,” Deceit spoke up, stood exactly still where they’d left him. There was no doubting how uncomfortable he felt in the room but his expression gave him away easily. He was just as worried as the rest of them.
Roman slid his hand under Virgil’s head just as Remy reappeared. “We’re patching you up next, gurl,” he told Roman, setting the first aid kit on the end of the bed.
Lifting Virgil’s head carefully, Roman waited for Logan to move next. Logan put the opening of the bottle to Virgil’s lips and poured. Virgil seemed conscious enough to understand what was happening and he was certainly dehydrated, so he didn’t hesitate in downing the entire thing. Roman let him back down, resting his head against the pillow. Logan put the empty bottle into the satchel and then allowed Roman to disappear the entire thing back to his room.
For a moment, they all stood with bated breath. It looked again like Patton might start crying. The puncture wounds and burn on Virgil’s neck began to shimmer, glowing the very same blue as the potion, before the light faded, and his skin was left unmarred. Remy whistled, low. It was several more minutes before Virgil moved. His eyelids fluttered, adjusting to the light, and Patton hurried to turn off the ceiling light, and turn on the lamp in the corner of the room. When Virgil lifted his arm to try and press a hand against his head, he only got about a third of the way, before his arm flopped back down.
“Ugh,” he groaned.
“Oh my god,” Patton sobbed before throwing himself on top of Virgil.
“Ah!” He exclaimed, startled. “What—” He blinked, looking at the scene around him. Roman and Logan stood on either side of him, Remy was at the foot of the bed, and… Was that Deceit by the door? “Oh.” He said finally, as his last memory came rushing back to him.
“Yes, oh,” Logan said and they could tell already that he was about to launch into a long winded speech. “What you did was incredibly dangerous, Virgil. It would have behooved you to work together with us on helping Roman out of his predicament. The Dragon-Witch is an adversary that only he has faced before and, despite how perilous this was, she could have done much worse to you.” Virgil was surprised to hear Logan’s tone grow tight with… fear? Worry? He knew the logical side was capable of emotions but to be concerned over him?
Patton was still sniffling but he’d curled up next to Virgil now, instead of laying on top of him, and quite possibly suffocating him. Roman spoke next. “I shouldn’t have simply thanked you for what you did to save me from such a terrible fate—” He sounded frustrated, quoting himself. “I should have sought you out and made sure that you were okay. It wasn’t very princely of me. I am… very grateful for you.” Roman was going to need reassuring after this, Virgil could tell already, and Virgil was going to make sure he’d be the one to do it.
“Kiddo,” Patton whimpered and Virgil turned his head to look at him. “You’re so brave for helping Roman. I love you so much, you did such a good job.” Virgil’s cheeks flushed hot but it was a welcome warmth after the fever he’d been suffering from all this time.
“Alright, Roman, your turn.” Remy said, snapping his fingers. Roman glared at him but stripped out of his shirt regardless. He was covered in minor scrapes and bruises from his battle with the Dragon-Witch but they all knew that if it wasn’t taken care of now, he’d never get around to it himself. While Remy took care of Roman, Deceit shifted closer. Virgil eyed him warily.
“I’m not glad you’re feeling better,” Deceit sneered, but there was far less malice to it than usual. “Finding the antidote to your stupid mistake wasn’t a hassle at all. Leave the idiotic heroics to Roman, why don’t you?”
“Hey!”
“He helped Logan and Roman,” Patton whispered into Virgil’s ear.
“… Thanks,” Virgil said to Deceit. He glanced to Roman and smiled tiredly at him before looking to Logan and giving him a small nod. “I’m… gonna take a nap now,” he told Patton, “you’re really comfortable.”
Patton contained his squeal, barely. The puppy scrambled onto the bed and curled up against Virgil’s other side. “Okay, sweetie, I’ll be right here when you wake up.”
[~] [~] [~]
By lunch time the next day, Virgil was feeling fit as a fiddle. Or, as fit as a fiddle as the embodiment of Anxiety could be. Thomas, thankfully, hadn’t felt any different during Virgil’s bedrest. Whether it was because it was short-lived enough or because the curse hadn’t had enough time to fully set in, the others couldn’t be sure. Roman had gone back to the Fantasy Realm that morning and adjusted the power balance. The Dragon-Witch wouldn’t be taking advantage of his weaknesses anytime soon.
Patton was making grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Logan was setting the table when Roman came bounding down the stairs. “I’ve just had the most brilliant idea!” He shouted, startling Virgil, who’d been curled up in a beanbag in the corner, reading a book. The puppy snoozing in his lap stayed fast asleep. Virgil glared at Roman, who continued, too excited to notice. “A game after lunch! I found this tucked in the back of the linens closet!” Only now did Virgil realize Roman carrying a box.
Patton peeked through the cutaway between the kitchen and the dining area. “Twister?!” He asked eagerly, recognizing the colored dots.
“Pass,” Virgil said in the same moment Logan declared, “no, thank you.”
“Now listen here,” Patton immediately began to reprimand. “We’re finally all back together and healthy! We’re having some good old family fun! In fact…” Patton stomped out of the kitchen and to the foot of the stairs. “Deceit!” He called up to the second floor.
It took a few seconds, but Deceit eventually appeared at the landing. Before Patton could even start, Deceit took one look at the box in Roman’s hands, and shook his head. “Well, I definitely do not want to be included!”
Patton’s hands curled up beneath his chin. His Puppy Eyes and Pout combo were suddenly in full effect. “… Dee, would you like to play Twister with us?”
An hour and a half later found them full on lunch and stood around the Twister mat. Remy, sitting on the back of the couch, with a puppy nipping at his toes, flicked the spinner on the board. “Right foot, green.”

Real Life Encounters Part 2
Pairing: MMA!Jason Todd/Torres x (fem!)Reader
Prompt: what if you met a real life Jason Todd? Amazing right? Here’s how it would go…
Words: 3093 (I KNOW THATS A LOT I SURPRISED MY OWN SELF)
Warnings: asshole creeps, foul language, ppl getting punched
A/N here’s part two because I really like this series! Who doesn’t like thinking of the possibility of a real life Jason Todd and batfam? Also I gave you a Latina best friend because they’re really nice.
The day after, aka the day of Jason’s fight, you had an incredibly busy day at the big expo the company you worked for was holding. You started at 6:00 am and now you were getting off at 6:00 pm. A whole twelve hours running around a hotel, sitting in various lectures, one of which was a TED Talk, participating in activities with your coworkers.…needless to say, you were exhausted.
You walked down the steps of the hotel that hosted the expo with your best friend at work, Wendy De La Vega, dressed down and ready to go out to eat.
“Twelve hours. We’ve been running around for twelve hours and I’m ready to collapse on the bed,” you told Wendy.
“Same but I haven’t had anything to eat for 6 hours I’m so hungry,” Wendy replied.
Around that time, Jason was coming around the corner with a few flowers to surprise you with. Since the night before, he hadn’t been able to get you out of his head, and spent the rest of his night coming up with ways to impress you the next day. His eldest brother told him flowers, not a full bouquet, but 5 roses would be enough to make you smile.
As Jason turned the corner, he saw you and your friend coming down the steps and quickly moved toward you to catch you before you got too far away.
“Hi,” he said as he suddenly approached you and Wendy. You were taken by surprise and gaped up at Jason in shock. What was he doing here?
“Hey!” you said, finally finding the words to say. Wendy, whose jaw was dropped, was looking back and forth between you and Jason. How on earth did her best friend know a guy like him?
“What are you doing here?” you asked Jason. His heart fell a bit; you had forgotten about his match today.
“ I came to pick you up for my fight,” he explained. You suddenly remembered last night’s events and you widened your eyes in realization.
“Oh my gosh that’s right! I’m so sorry, today has been hectic, I’ve worked for nearly 12 hours,” you told him. Jason nodded in understanding.
“That’s fine, I just hope you don’t have plans…” he trailed off.
“No! She has no plans! Y/N, mija, go!” Wendy gestured to Jason.
“But dinner…?” you asked her.
“We can get it tomorrow! Don’t worry about it! Now go!” Wendy said.
“You can come too if you want,” Jason told Wendy. She looked up at him in surprise.
“I appreciate the offer, but I think I’ll have to pass. Besides, you made plans with Y/N, not Y/N and Wendy.” Wendy brushed it off. As you began to protest, Wendy lightly pushed you straight into Jason to make you go with him, and walked back into the hotel, waving goodbye.
Jason had absentmindedly put his hand on the small of your back to steady you when you nearly crashed into him, but quickly removed it because he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable. After you stepped away from him a bit, you looked up at him with a smile.
“Looks like it’s just us,” You shrugged sheepishly. He gave you a warm smile in return and decided it would be a good time to give you the roses.
“I got you these” he pulled the flowers out from behind his back. Your eyes widened at the roses, but your shocked expression soon faded into a soft smile. A blush crept onto your cheeks and you looked down to hide it away.
“Thank you,” you took the flowers from him.
“You’re welcome,” he said.
“We should…probably get going,” you looked up at him again.
“We can swing by a nearby restaurant if you want something to eat,” he suggested. “My fight isn’t for another hour and a half.”
“That would be phenomenal,” you beamed.
And with that, Jason whisked you away to get some food, which, in fact is the true way to the heart.
After getting a quick bite, Jason took you to the venue he was fighting at. It wasn’t terribly small, but it wasn’t an arena either. He took you in through the back, because it was the quickest way to the fighter’s “areas”.
Jason led you down a few halls before opening a door into a large room full of people you didn’t know. They all greeted him warmly and then turned to you.
“And who are you?” One of the men asked. It wasn’t in a rude way at all, as if you weren’t supposed to be there. He was curious as to who this girl was, standing next to his big, brute, hulking brother.
“Uhhhh……my name is Y/N. A friend of Jason’s,” you introduced yourself.
“Jay, is this the one you were talking about?” The man suddenly turned to Jason. Jason’s eyes widened and started gesturing for the man to cut it out.
“Shhhh!”
“The one who you saved–”
“Shhhhhhh!”
“–from the bar–”
“ShhhHHHHHH”
“–last night? Huh? Is this her?”
“Would you please shut the hell up?!” Jason hissed at the man. You looked down at your feet and blushed in slight embarrassment. Now you knew he talked about you.
“I just wanna know,” the man said.
“Yes, okay? Yes that’s her,” Jason said irritatedly.
“Ahhhhh, well, Y/N, the name’s Dick. Nice to meet you. I’m Jason’s older adoptive brother,” he introduced himself. You blinked at Dick a few times in shock. Dick…older adoptive brother…black hair…blue eyes…toned build. What on earth is going on?
“I’m Tim, Jason’s younger adoptive brother,” another black-haired, blue eyed boy stepped up and offered his hand. You shook it and looked around the room. There was a young boy with, you guessed it: black hair and blue eyes and a red-head girl as well.
“I’m Barbara. You can call me Babs,” The girl said.
“Damian. You can call me Damian.” The young boy followed.
“Nice to-nice to meet you all,” you said, completely amazed at the people standing before you. Not only was Jason Todd–well his name was now Jason Torres–real, but his siblings were as well. And Bruce? What about him? You’d have to find out.
“Nice to meet you too. Jay tells me you’re not from around here. Where are you from? Bludhaven?” Dick asked you.
“Excuse me?” You asked.
“Okaaaay, not from Bludhaven then.” Dick raised his eyebrows and backed away a bit.
“No no, did you just say Bludhaven?” You asked him.
“Yeahhh, Bludhaven, New Jersey? It’s Gotham’s sister city?” Dick asked as if the answer was obvious.
“Oh, right,” you nodded. This was getting more and more weird by the second.
“So where are you from?” Damian asked.
“I’m from [state]. I’m here for a business trip,” you explained.
“Oh, I see. Where do you work?” Tim asked. Just like that, Jason’s family had made you one of their own as they asked questions about you. You gladly answered them, but soon you got overwhelmed by all of the attention.
“Hey hey, guys, calm down, you’re freaking her out, give her some room to breathe,” Jason stepped in. His family immediately stopped asking questions and backed off a bit.
Suddenly, a knock was heard on the door and the focus was off you and on the door.
“Yeah?” Jason said loudly. A woman with a headset and a clipboard peeked her head in the room.
“Mr. Torres, you’re on in 15 minutes.” She informed. Jason nodded his head and the lady closed the door. Almost immediately, Jason’s family swarmed Jason and started taking off Jason’s jacket and shirt, getting his wraps and mask and everything to prepare him for the fight. You stood near the door awkwardly, not really knowing what to do with yourself.
Jason half turned to you and spotted you at the door and sighed.
“Dick, could you take Y/N to our seats?” He asked his brother.
“Huh? Oh sure. I’ll be right back,” Dick said and walked over to you.
“Hey! Y/NNNNN,” he drawled out your name. “I’m gonna take you to our seats.”
You looked up Dick with a warm smile, “Thank you so much.”
Dick opened the door and led you out in the hall again. He led you through the maze of halls and out to the arena, which was actually quite large and looked like an actual, televised UFC fight would be held there. You stopped in your tracks to admire how nice it looked and the massive amount of people in it.
“Woah, what is the capacity in this place?” You asked, looking around in awe.
“Uhhh, I’d say about 5,000?” Dick put his hands on his hips, one leg popped out, like a sassy pose.
“5,000 people? Seriously?” You asked him.
“Yup. But only like 3000 are coming to this tonight,” he shrugged it off and started walking again.
“Well that’s still a lot! That’s more than half of the arena!” You exclaimed and scurried after him.
“What, you don’t like people?” Dick asked as he stopped in front of a row of seats.
“No no, I just didn’t expect this to draw such a large crowd. People in Gotham like fighting don’t they?” You asked.
“No no, Gothamites like watching fights not fighting; there’s a difference.” Dick explained.
“Oh, right,” you looked down awkwardly.
“Well here are our team’s seats. Front row, super high quality.” Dick motioned to the chairs before you. You sat down in one and lightly gasped. It had a cushion.
“These are so comfy!” You smiled.
“Hey Ken doll! Can ya move please!” A man behind you with a southern drawl yelled at Dick. Dick blinked at the man a few times before rolling his eyes and looking back at you.
“I gotta go, but once Jay comes out, the rest of us will join you. Sit tight for now,” Dick said. You nodded, and Dick left you alone in the front row.
For about ten minutes, you sat in your seat, scrolling through your phone and wishing you had a snack when suddenly all the lights in the arena turned off.
“Oh my fuck what is happening? Is it a massacre?! A kidnapping?! What the hell?” You thought to yourself.
“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! WELCOME!!” An announcer came on over the sound system. You sighed in relief. The announcer made a few more announcements before introducing.
“HE’S LEAN, HE’S MEAN AND A FIGHTING MACHINE! IIIIIITTTTSSS TWOOOOO FAAAAACCEEE!” The announcer said. One whole section of the arena cheered for the fighter. You watched as a man, with his fists raised in the air and a whole half of his face painted a reddish-purplish color, stepped into the ring. His posse went and sat in their section.
“AND NOW, THIS ROOKIE, THIS RISING STAR HAS GOT A MEAN HOOK AND IS 225 POUNDS OF MUSCLE, IT’S THE RED HOOOOOOOD!” The announcer said with more enthusiasm. Jason, with a dark red domino mask over his eyes, sauntered toward the ring, Dick, Tim, Damian and Babs flanking his sides with their own domino masks. After Jason entered the ring, his family joined you in the seats next to you.
You looked around in slight confusion. Was this normal? Wearing domino masks? You had forgotten what Jason told about mask-usage in the ring the night before.
The referee brought Jason and “Two-Face” a few feet apart from each other and stated the rules. He clapped both on the back, stepped away from the two and blew his whistle to signal the start of the match.
Two-face immediately lunged for Jason, but Jason quickly evaded the lunge and went to the other side of the ring and brought his fists up to protect is face and got into an offensive fighting stance.
Round One was a bit slow, a few blows here and a few there but not much happened.
Round Two got more interesting; Two-Face managed to pin Jason to the floor and nearly strangled him. You stood up in concern, watching as the referee pulled Two-Face off of Jason and made some signals. Jason slowly got up from the ground and rubbed his neck.
“Time-out!” He shouted at the referee. Since it was the first time-out, the ref gladly let it happen. As the ref signaled a time-out, Dick, Babs, Tim and Damian all leaped out of their seats and ran into the ring, holding a stool, a Gatorade water bottle, a towel and a bucket. You quickly scurried after them into the ring and into Jason’s corner.
As you approached Jason, he stopped Dick from continuing whatever he was saying and focused on your figure. You knelt down on one knee and placed your hands on Jason’s knees.
“Hey, are you okay?” You asked him, your tone laced with worry. Jason looked off to the left and nodded.
“Hey hey,” you got his attention again, “no you’re not. That man almost choked you to death. Don’t lie to me. It’s okay not to be okay. Listen, you go out there and kick his ass. I know you can do it. Got it?”
Jason glanced up and saw Two-Face across the ring in his corner, who was licking his lips at you. You hadn’t noticed since you were talking to Jason, but something in Jason ignited as he saw Two-Face checking you out. He hated it. He wanted to rip Two-Face’s dumb smirk off his face.
“Hey! Jason!” You caught his attention again.
“Yeah, I got it.” He said through gritted teeth as he continued glaring at Two-Face.
“Look at me.” You said. Jason tore his gaze away from Two-Face to look into your hues. “You can do this.” You said to him. You had only known him for one day but you meant what you said. A spark was created the night before, and your words fanned the flame.
Jason nodded his head in understanding and chewed the inside of his cheek nervously.
“Time-out over!” The ref shouted over the screaming fans. You and Jason stood up simultaneously and his family dashed out of the ring and back to their seats. You quickly stood on your tippy toes and kissed his cheek, then joined his family in the audience. Jason was a little surprised at your display of affection but shook it off and went back to the middle again.
The referee blew his whistle again and round two began again. You watched intently as Jason dodged jabs and hooks left and right, got in a few light crosses of his own and then it happened.
He ducked one jab and pivoted away, put his leg around Two-Face’s and tripped him backwards. While Two-Face was falling, Jason took the opportunity to punch him across the face, knocking Two-Face out cold.
Two-Face fell to the floor, completely out. The referee gestured that the fight was over and held up Jason’s arm to signify he won. The crowd went wild. Gotham’s new MMA “rookie” had won yet another fight.
You stood up with a smile and clapped happily. Jason yanked his hand from the referee as they opened the cage and ran out to you. As soon as he reached you, he picked you up by your waist and spun you around in a circle. When he put you down, he pulled you into a hug. However since he was significantly taller than you, your feet dangled off the floor.
“You did it!” You exclaimed as you pulled away from the hug, but still in his strong embrace.
“Yeah I did!” He said joyously, looking into your eyes. Jason got lost in your eyes, he couldn’t help it; they were so mesmerizing. You beamed at him and looked into his own eyes. It seemed as if the world…slowed down around you two. Like the only person you could see…was Jason. But you liked that feeling. It felt good. It made you happy.
And then it disappeared as you came back to reality, Jason getting swarmed by reporters and you getting pushed away. Dick, Babs and Tim put themselves in front of Jason and told the reporters to back off and back up. In a few seconds, you lost Jason among the horde of reporters and fans who had come to greet him.
You stood there alone, awkwardly shifting from each foot as the swarm followed Jason back into the locker rooms.
You picked up your bag and went up the stairs out to the main exit instead of the locker rooms. Hopefully the night wasn’t over.
Fortunately, your wish came true. Jason and his family picked you up at the front and took you to a nice restaurant to celebrate his win. Then, he decided to take you back to your hotel by himself.
When you approached your hotel door, you sighed.
“Well. This is my stop,” you stated the obvious.
“Yep.” Jason nodded his head. You two stood outside the door together for a few minutes in silence before you said something.
“Tonight was really fun,” you smiled softly at Jason.
“I’m glad you thought that. I know it wasn’t really a first date but maybe while you’re still here, I can take you out on one.” Jason chuckled as he leaned against the wall on the side of his crossed arm. You blinked at Jason a few times and then nodded.
“I’d like that.” You told him.
“I’ll pick you up at 8:00 tomorrow.” He told you.
“Ooh, tomorrow’s not good, my coworkers and I planned a dinner already.”
“Lunch then?”
“Also…busy…day three of the expo…”
“Then two nights from now.”
“Perfect.” You finally were able to get a date situated.
“Perfect.” Jason repeated and smiled down at you.
You quickly got your keycard out and swiped it on the handle. You opened the door to the room and found it dark.
“Well, goodnight. I guess I’ll text you tomorrow?” It came out as more of a question.
“Yeah. You have a goodnight too, Y/N,” he said and leaned down to kiss your cheek, returning it from earlier.
As you stood in shock at Jason’s simple action, he left you alone in the doorframe. You quickly snapped out of it and went into your room and closed the door. You took off your shoes and put up your purse.
It then hit you that Jason asked you on a date and boy were you happy.
“YESSSSSS!”

The woods of Hollowtown #1
There was this little girl sitting on top of this really dirty rock. There were plenty of rocks, big ones, small ones, but of course she had to be sitting on top of the one, right next to the deepest ravine a visitor could probably find in our neighbourhood. Slowly I made my way towards her. “Hey little girl,” I calmly said. “What are you doing here?” She was playing with my dog. What would be the most strange and terrifying thing I had ever seen since my dog hated children. She hated children more than he hated anything else. Therefore seeing her getting petted by a five or six year old girl, relaxing and even enjoying it, yeah, that is strange. “Sweetheart?” I wasn’t sure to whom I had been talking right now. She turned her head and glanced over to me. “Is this your dog?”, she asked. Not really shy, more as if she decided that it would matter right now. I didn’t think it would matter. “Yeah” I walked a bit closer. “She’s my babygirl.” The girl stood up and came to me. “I am terribly sorry, I didn’t want you to think I would take away you baby.”, she smiled. “Why would I do that?” “I don’t know. Because you were looking for her and shouting all along the way while you were on your way up here.” “You don’t look like a dog-napper, honestly, sweetheart.” She smiled at me again. “I like her. She has so soft fur.” “Yep. She is just perfect. And perfectly stubborn I have to admit.” “That’s why she ran away?” “I guess so. Sometimes she is… sometimes she doesn’t listen at all. Then she is just like ‘I don’t care now go and search me’, you know. She likes to provoke me, I guess.” I had to admit, that my little baby was more of a human that I’d have ever thought of a dog. Sometimes I got scared of her. “Are you trying to avoid talking about why a little girl is sitting in the middle of the woods?” gingerly I asked. She eyed up at me. “Maybe.” Her eyes looked tired, her clothes a bit dirty, not as if she had been in the woods for longer than a few minutes and definitely cleaner than I would expect it from a child of her age. A few blobs of dirt covered her light blue jacket and her trousers had foliage and pine needles sticking on it. She had bitten her nails, maybe from nervousness or wariness. “Are you hurt?” She shook her head. “No, I’m fine.” Again, her eyes were full of suspicion, a sensed a bit of anger. “You know, I’m just curious, sweetheart.” “I know.” While I rearranged my thoughts and plans for the rest of the evening, she did the same. Something in her face changed, her glance got enlightened. She caught a thought. “What’s up, sweetie?” “Do you know how to find people?” she fixated me. Her melodically voice was more serious than before. “Um.. Yeah, I guess. I do. Do you want to find someone?” She nodded. “And whom do I have to find? Did someone get lost in these woods?” “I don’t exactly know.” “Uhm…. Okay, so why don’t you tell me a bit about yourself and then we can talk about me?” “Okay.” She smiled. She seemed to like me. I hoped so. Gosh, she was cute. But something about her, the way she behaved, the way she talked, moved, how she looked, something was off. Something was odd. I didn’t know what it was, but it was… outlandish. Bizarre. Maybe peculiar? I crouched in front of her. “Ouch. I’m getting old.” I crooked a smile and looked at her. “Are you hurt?” “Oh, no, no, I’m fine. That sound was just coming from my bones.” I laughed quietly and tried to joke. “It sounded like an elderly person.” Thank you, girl, I grinned. “Yeah, I guess I am almost an elderly citizen.” Wrinkles appeard on her forehead. “How old are you?” “I’m twenty.” I had to smile. Somehow she was right. “You know, for a human being it’s a big step, loosing that one-ish age.” “That is not quite old.” “And you? How old are you?” “I’m two and a half.” What? I mean, she looks like… five? Six? Or seven? She could even be ten or so, I mean, these days you can’t tell, kids play with makeup, the could be in elementary school and be looking like teenagers. Hell, how come she is two?! “Oh wow” I smiled. “And you’re already that big? That’s-” “weird? I know.” She grinned a bit. “My grandpa tells me this all the time.” “I can imagine that.” I had to admit. “So… Where are your parents?” If she is two there is absolutely no chance that no one was here with her. Local parents would let their children play outside in the woods, but they would have to be at least eleven I guess. At least I had to be ten to go alone into the forest without a grown up. And I was one of the youngest since I had grown up on a forest farm. “At home. I hope.” Why would they be? “Don’t you think they are looking for you?” She nodded. “They are. But they shouldn’t.” “Why shouldn’t they?” “Because it is dangerous.” “Dangerous?” “Yeah.” “Do you want to tell me why?” She hesitated. Something was very odd about this situation. She was holding back something. “I promise I won’t tell anyone, okay?” Her eyes found mine and I did my best to look convincingly and trustworthy. Finally she nodded. “Okay.” She took a deep breath. “Although my family always tells me I mustn’t tell anyone about us. But I guess you are kind and they would like you. Can you promise me something?” When I nodded, my intuition told me I shouldn’t be. I had this feeling that I should run and abandon her. Not promise her anything else than leaving her open to the beasts inside the woods and running off without her. So I nodded. “Of course, sweetie.” She looked down for a while. “I want to go home. I miss my parents. Nobody did hurt me, although I suppose they wanted to.” Confused I asked her “Who? Your parents?” “No!!!” furiously she glared at me. “No! These people! The people who took me with them! They told me it was the only way Mommy and Daddy would survive!” Tears filled her eyes and rolled down her pink cheeks. “They were so strong I couldn’t even defend myself. I did my best, I punched, screamed, I bit them, but it wasn’t enough. I became annoying to them so they put me inside this… this… room. Like a jail, just… mini. And then Grandpa came and opened this entry-thingy and told me to run off.” She whimpered. “I couldn’t even hug him anymore. He shooed me away and made me run.” Apparently this little sweetheart had gotten abducted and locked away, before someone helped her to flee. I should’ve got called the police, however something is telling me not to. “Okay, sweetheart, why don’t we go back to mine and phone Mommy and Daddy? Maybe we can find a solution to all these problems, hmm? What do you think?” She looked up and suddenly was clutching my dog’s fur. Her other arm was across her body, holding the other like holding on to a rope. Her slumped shoulders were shivering heavily. Her face was ashen. I stripped off my jacket and wrapped it around her. My dog and I embraced this little girl in a big hug. I bet she was longing for someone to hold and comfort her. “Shhhhhhh, everything is going to be okay, hmm? We’ll find a way to get you back home. I promise.” “You promise?”, she hushed against my chest. “Yeah.” “Thanks.” After a few minutes she let go of me. It was one of my rules. Always be the last one to let go of a child when hugging them. You never know how much they need it. And this little one here needed a really compelling hug. She took my hand and together we walked back to my house. It’s been quite a long walk, nethertheless she trotted next to me, all the way holding on to my fingers, her hand maybe half the size of mine. The last two miles I carried her.
_______ Let me know what you think 😘
Stay a Twihard!

RWBY Secret Santa gift for @itsclydebitches! I tossed around a bunch of ideas on what to write and finally decided on some Ozpin mentoring + Pyrruby friendship fluff. I hope you like it!
1.9k words, Canon-verse, Takes place between volumes 1 and 2,
Summary: Ruby had always wanted to get to know Pyrrha. Unfortunately for her, she was much better at slaying Grimm than she was at making friends.
Ruby smiled with excitement as she watched the video play on her scroll. No matter how many times she watched over and over, Pyrrha’s fights at the Mistral Regional Tournaments never ceased to amaze her. She moved with such grace and confidence, always seeming to land her attacks perfectly against her opponent while not even taking a graze from their weapons. She couldn’t believe that this same girl was currently living across the hall from her dorm room.
Despite this, Ruby had yet to formally spend time with Pyrrha. Sure they briefly interacted with each other when the rest of team jnpr and rwby hung out, but Ruby craved for more. She wanted to befriend the famous huntress in training more than anything. Unfortunately for her, Pyrrha always seemed just out of reach.
She’s so cool and nice, and she fights better than some of the third or even fourth year students here! Uhhhhhhng I wish I could just invite her to my room to play some video games, but why would she do that when she has her own team and friends to be with...
“You knooooooow,” a singsong voice interrupted her thoughts, “maybe instead of hiding in your bed drooling over her videos all day you could just go across the hall and ask to hang out with her.”
Ruby scowled as she turned her head to address her sister who was currently peeking over the side of her bunk bed, a teasing smile across her face.
“Yang you know I’m bad at making friends,” the younger girl whined, “plus it’s not like she probably has a zillion other friends she’d rather hang out with over me.”
Yang rolled her eyes as she hoisted herself up and sat on the edge of the bunk bed.
“Come on, you’ve known Pyrrha and the rest of team jnpr for over a semester now. You’re practically friends already! All you gotta do is ask her to come over and play video games or something for a little while.”
Ruby’s scowl deepened before she pulled her hood over her head in an attempt to hide herself from her pushy sister.
“You say that like my first time trying to make friends at Beacon didn’t end up with a crater in front of the school.”
“But look how well that turned out!” Yang added before stealing a quick glance at Ruby’s partner.
Weiss sighed audibly from her desk before dropping the pen in her hand. Trying to study would be nearly impossible with this conversation taking up the room.
“Ruby, Pyrrha is probably one of the most gracious, talented, intelligent, and capable students in all of Beacon. I’m sure she would have no qualms in spending some time with you,” the heiress stated simply.
“Ah, what?” Ruby asked attempting to understand if Weiss’ words were that of encouragement or sarcasm.
Ruby heard a soft laugh before looking down to Blake who until now was quietly reading on her bed.
“I think what she’s trying to tell you,” the faunus girl explained, “is that Pyrrha would have no problems spending quality time with you if you just asked her.”
Ruby begrudgingly looked back to her sister who had a knowing smirk plastered across her face.
“Weeeeeell I think we’re all in agreement then. You gotta ask Pyrrha for a friend date. Or a date-date, whichever one you’re hoping for.”
Ruby immediately began assaulting the blonde’s head with her pillow.
“SHHHHHHH Yang I don’t like her in that way!!! I just want to be her friend!!!”
Yang couldn’t help but laugh at her little sister’s reaction to her light quip.
“Okay okay whatever you say. Either way you’re gonna ask her to hang out with you. We’ll even make sure the three of us are out tomorrow night so you two can be alone. Right guys?”
“Mhm,” Blake hummed in agreement, her eyes not leaving her novel.
“If it’ll make this room quiet for the next hour,” Weiss huffed out in annoyance.
Yang clapped her hands as she jumped down from the bed. “Then it’s settled!”
“Oh great...,” Ruby muttered.
--
Ruby nervously paced back and forth outside her dorm. As promised, her teammates had made sure to leave for the evening and Ruby knew she couldn’t back out of her “date” without the risk of Yang intervening and making the situation more embarrassing than it already was.
Oh what do I say what do I say? What if Jaune Nora and Ren are in there? No no no Yang told me the three of them would be out training tonight. But what if they aren’t? What if Pyrrha thinks I’m weird or annoying for bugging her on a Friday night? What if she’s busy studying for a test? What if-
“Something the matter, Miss Rose?” a familiar voice calmly inquired.
Ruby was too busy interrogating herself to notice the school’s headmaster making his way down the hall. She jumped back slightly in surprise at his presence.
“Professor Ozpin! I’m sorry for blocking your way I was just uh...thinking of some stuff.”
The older man hummed thoughtfully.
“I can see that, though it seems whatever may be on your mind is troubling you.”
Ruby sighed before crossing her arms and pouting slightly.
“Is it that obvious?” she asked reluctantly.
Ozpin gave an encouraging smile.
“Perhaps.”
Ruby fiddled with her cloak as she debated on weather or not her headmaster was a suitable candidate to vent to about her terrible social skills.
Well, we’ve talked about other stuff before. I guess I shouldn’t be too worried about this.
“I’ve really been wanting to hang out with Pyrrha. She seems so nice and the way she fights is just so cool! I mean she’s able to control her spear and shield with her semblance without her opponents knowing is just so awesome and she can even control THEIR weapons without them realizing and shes just really amazing and shes everything I wish I was in a huntress but I’m not and I’m worried she’s just gonna see me as a nuisance like Weiss did and I’m really REALLY bad at making friends and I wish there was a much easier way to do this.”
Ozpin hummed again before he spoke.
“Indeed, a student like Miss Nikos is a rarity. One with such intuition and skill at such a young age is very hard to come by. However, none of that is relevant when the subject of interpersonal relations is at hand.”
Ruby’s brow pinched in confusion as Ozpin continued.
“How did you initially feel when I told you you would be skipped ahead two years to attend Beacon?”
Ruby thought back to the airship ride when the full gravity of the situation had finally hit her.
“I felt different, but not in a good way. I didn’t want others seeing me as some girl who was better than everyone else. I’m...I’m just a girl who wants to become a huntress.”
“So tell me, do you think Miss Nikos has experienced anything similar to that given her background?”
Ruby’s face softened as she listened to Ozpin’s words. She never considered that Pyrrha might have been more like her than she initially thought.
“While being placed on a pedestal can be advantageous, it doesn’t come without potential draw backs. Instead of viewing your peer the way you think she deserves to been seen, perhaps you should try viewing her the same way you wish others would see you.”
Ozpin took a sip from his mug before he continued.
“I know you’d much rather face a hungry Beowolf than engage in awkward social confrontation, but being a huntsmen or huntress requires you to be broadening your horizons and constantly going into the unknown. If you never push yourself to go beyond what you find comfortable, your true potential will never be reached. And I see much potential in you, Ruby.”
With that, the headmaster continued down the hallway until he turned a corner and disappeared from Ruby’s sight.
Ruby sighed to herself once her headmaster left.
I guess this is it then. I can’t let Professor Ozpin down.
With three small knocks on the door, Ruby heard Pyrrha’s cheery voice from the room.
“Jaune? Did you loose your dorm key again?”
“Uh, actually it’s Ruby,” the younger girl said awkwardly.
“Oh I’m sorry!” Pyrrha apologized before hasty footsteps made their way toward the door. Soon after the door opened revealing the tall redhead.
“Forgive me, I assumed Jaune had come back from his training with Ren and Nora. Is something wrong?”
Ruby shifted in place as she contemplated what to say next.
“Well, ah, nothing’s wrong!” she fumbled over her words. “Yang just told me you’d be alone tonight and I’m alone too! So I was just wondering if maybe you’d want to hang out. With me. In my room. Not in a weird way but in a playing video games sort of way and I’m really bad at this aren’t I...”
Pyrrha couldn’t help but giggle at the younger girl’s awkward yet sweet invitation.
“I would love to! Though I haven’t played many video games myself...perhaps you’d be willing to teach me?”
Ruby’s silver eyes practically sparkled with excitement at Pyrrha’s words.
“Of course! It’s different than you know, fighting for real. But I’m sure with some practice you’ll be great!”
--
Pyrrha proved to be a fast learner, to the point where she actually won a few matches. Normally Ruby didn’t like losing at her favorite video game, but since it was Pyrrha she was playing with she felt nothing but elation.
After a couple hours of game play, the two girls ended up sitting on Ruby’s bunk talking about weapons, school, favorite foods, and whatever other topics came to their minds.
Without much warning, Ruby quickly wrapped her arms around Pyrrha giving her a bear hug.
“Thanks for hanging out with me Pyrrha. You’re so much fun to be around.”
Without hesitance Pyrrha returned the hug with warm smile across her face.
“I think I should be thanking you, for treating me just like you would anyone else. I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to make any meaningful friendships while I attended Beacon, but I’m relieved to see that’s not the case.”
Ozpin’s words echoed in Ruby’s head as she processed the implication of Pyrrha words.
“I think I know how you feel. A little anyway. At first I was really nervous about being skipped ahead two years because I didn’t want people thinking I was special. Also the only person I knew here was Yang and she’s ALWAYS pushing me to make new friends. And I’m not really the social-ey type like she is.”
Pyrrha giggled as she remembered Ruby’s clumsy yet endearing invitation earlier that day.
“Well, I should thank her for pushing you to talk to me. I know I’ve made friends here that I will cherish for the rest of my life, and I’m sure you’re no exception to that.”
Ruby felt her cheeks flush slightly at the older girl’s words. Knowing Pyrrha kept her in such high regard was such a wonderful feeling.
“You’d also have to thank Ozpin too! He helped me a lot.”
“Professor Ozpin? I never thought he’d be one to help with student’s personal livess. He must be more understanding than what meets the eye.”
Ruby gave a small smile as she fondly remembered all the times Ozpin had helped her.
“You’d be surprised.”
