Mako Mermaids Femslash Feb Day 3

Day 3 Cake Weilan/Ondina/Mimmi, 582 words, Rating G 

Weilan hummed away as she dumped out the flour into the measuring bowl, scrunching up her nose as the flour dust flew up. She cleared the digital display with one finger. 186g. Weilan pouted and dug around the drawer at hand’s reach to find a spoon. Spoon by spoon she removed the excess until it finally reached the necessary 125g. 

Perfect.

Now for the sieve. Sieve. Sieve. Sie - 

“Weilan? What are you doing?”

Weilan jumped and her arm flailed out catching the bowl and sending it flying off the edge of the worktop and smashing on the floor in a mess of glass and creamed butter mixed with sugar. At least the flour was still safe in it’s measuring bowl. 

She just stared at the shattered bowl for a second before turning up to look at Rita.

“Making a mess.”

“I can see that,” Rita raised an eyebrow. 

“I’m trying to make a cake. Ondina and Mimmi are fighting so I figured cake might bring us all back together.”

“Want some help?”

“Yes please!”

“First things first, you get tidying the floor. I’ll get everything we need ready. Mise en place, Weilan. Helps every time.”

“I don’t know what that means but if it means grab everything as I go then that’s exactly what I do,” Weilan grabbed a wad of kitchen roll and scraped up the worst of the butter mix.

“Watch your fingers.”

Weilan held her hand over the mess and gathered each bit of glass slowly in her hand, “you want it fixed or dumped.”

“Fix it if you can. Be good practice.”

An hour later Weilan pulled a fresh baked still steaming sponge from the oven. Warm golden brown and it smelled so damn good it was taking every bit of self control not to just bite into it.

“Perfecto!” 

“It worked?” Rita asked from the attached sitting room. 

“It worked! Now to ice it.” Visions swirled her mind of piped roses and love hearts. Or maybe fondant icing. 

“Let it cool first Weilan or it won’t work.”

“Okay fine.” Weilan dropped her daydreaming and left the cake on the counter. She slipped off the oven gloves and haphazardly chucked them on the counter as she crossed the boundary from kitchen to sitting room. 

“Can I join you guys?”

“Sure.”

Weilan hopped over the back of the armchair in the window she had unofficially claimed as hers and settled in. Rita was sitting on the couch with her feet up on the fluffy footstool. Veridia lying beside her, stretched out across the rest of the couch with her head on Rita’s lap, fast asleep. 

“Aw cute.”

Footsteps and chatter came drifting through. 

“That sounds like them, Weilan,” Rita warned. 

Weilan leaped up, “Wait no don’t come in here!” 

Too late, Ondina and Mimmi both rounded the corner.

“Why not?” Ondina demanded the exact second Mimmi squealed, “Ooh cake!”

Weilan sagged, “it was meant to be a surprise. I was going to ice it and everything for you guys.”

“For us?” Mimmi asked. 

“Yeah, you're my girls and you were sad so I made cake.”

“Aww, you’re so sweet,” Mimmi hugged her.

“Yeah thanks,” Ondina gave Weilan a private happy smile. Weilan blew her a kiss in return.

“We’ll help ice it, won’t we Ondina,” Mimmi broke off from Weilan but kept one arm around her, the other sneaking out to pull Ondina in too. 

“Course.”

Mimmi gave each of them a kiss on the cheek, “love you guys.”

30 with Rita x Verdia for that flash writing thing?

Thx for the prompt! Taking the 'flash' fic writing to heart, I for once wrote sth immediately after getting the prompt and without overthinking it - I might turn this into sth a bit longer some day for ao3, but for now just a ficlet on here (though it did turn longer than a few paragraphs, so like half of it's under the readmore).

Flash fic prompt 30: Take a photograph. It’ll last longer.

Rita walks down the steps to her cave pool in a somber mood.

It is quiet, almost eerily so, with all of the girls out of the house and her cat sitting outside in the sun.

She used to know nothing but the quiet, but lately she has gotten used to the bustle of teenagers spreading chaos and rummaging around in her things...

It isn't the lack of teenage girls in the house, however, that has put Rita in such a mood. In fact, she had expected not to feel too well today, and she didn't want to end up having to explain it to them, so she arranged for everyone to be busy elsewhere.

It's an anniversary today, and not a happy one.

One of death.

And to make it even worse - staring at the date in her calendar, Rita has also noticed that it has been almost a year since she has last seen Veridia.

While that shouldn't have come as a shock, the realisation still pushed the dull ache in her heart to a fierce hurt.

Sighing, Rita stops in front of the water and closes her eyes, breathing deeply as she wonders what she should do today.

Suddenly the water rushes noisily, and Rita subconsciously takes a step back so as not to get wet and turn. She opens her eyes, expecting one of the teens to interrupt her musings, but instead -

"Take a picture, it'll last longer," Veridia's chuckle pulls her out of her shock, and Rita blushes when she notices how much she must have been staring.

"You're - here?"

"I didn't want you to be alone today." Veridia smiles, gently, not jealous of the dead. Only willing to help.

"I - thank you. I'm glad you came."

Perhaps she doesn't need to make any plans on her own to escape the past today.

the fact that this should theoretically be the first time veridia goes on land and uses legs but she's so comfortable with it... you could argue it's some requirement for being a council member or something they're taught in case of emergency, but honestly i'm choosing to believe veridia just... spent a few years showing up at rita's place to harass her about her choices

Valentine's day was something that for a long time Rita saw no point in. For a while though she did, every Valentine's day when Harry was alive she would by him flowers, he made her dinner. After she still bought flowers and made her own dinner.

Rita heard a content sigh come from the woman safely tucked in her arms. Copper curls ticked her chin as Veridia snuggled deeper into her. Rita moved her arm around Veridia's waist and buried her face in the soft copper curls that laid under her chin.

Sometime after she began to feel Veridia shift. Rita looked at her and was meet with the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen. "Good morning" Veridia muttered with a smile as she turned her head to look at Rita.

"Morning" the woman said back with her own smile. Veridia's smile faded upon remembering the meeting she and Rita had with the rest if the pod leaders, as well as the other meeting Rita had later on. With a sigh she pushed herself up and off the bed.

Her plans were quickly ruined when she felt arms wrap around her and pull her back down. The arms around her waist were tight but not enough to hurt her and a leg hook around one of her own, and her wife's head in her hair.

"Ri"

"Yes?"

"I have to get up"

"No you can't get up. You are my prisoner for today."

Rita said with a stubborn and sleepy pout. Despite the fact she had been awake for a little while now she was still rather sleepy. In addition, while her inner clock always seemed to wake her up early much to her annoyance, she never left her bed till much later.

Veridia sighed and shook her head and her wife.

"What?"

"You're adorable when you are sleepy"

Veridia responded amused. Unlike Rita, Veridia had no problem getting up early.

"Thank you, now stay"

"We have meetings soon"

"Oh well."

Veridia knew very well that the other pod leaders would be angry that she missed the meeting, she also knew that Rita's other meeting was late enough that by the time she got up she wouldn't miss it. But she couldn't find her self caring with Rita pressing small kisses all over her neck.

Quickly making up her mind, she turned around and captured Rita's lips in a kiss.

Neither leaving the bed till later that day.

Much to the pods annoyance.

for the wip ask - 13) Help From Unexpected Places?

Sorry about the late reply! I ended up heading over to a friend’s house for Easter Dinner. 

This takes place after season 3. Zac finds out that the spell that gave him legs was merely weakened back when he first got his tail returned to him and the spell has finally weakened and broken. So, he’s stuck and unable to get his legs back. He has to tell his parents everything because of the danger to the pod and they don’t take it super well. As in, they don’t want him to leave and transfer him to their pool. Chlorine isn’t good for gills or fish of any kind.  * * * Zac‌ ‌couldn’t‌ ‌believe‌ ‌this‌ ‌was‌ ‌happening.‌ ‌The‌ ‌spell‌ ‌that‌ ‌had‌ ‌granted‌ ‌him‌ ‌legs‌ ‌wasn’t‌ ‌fully‌ ‌broken‌ ‌that‌ ‌night‌ ‌a‌ ‌year‌ ‌and‌ ‌a‌ ‌half‌ ‌ago,‌ ‌it‌ ‌was‌ ‌only‌ ‌weakened.‌ ‌If‌ ‌he‌ ‌had‌ ‌known‌ ‌that‌ ‌such‌ ‌a‌ ‌thing‌ ‌as‌ ‌magical‌ ‌backlash‌ ‌existed,‌ ‌he‌ ‌wouldn’t‌ ‌have‌ ‌spent‌ ‌all‌ ‌that‌ ‌time‌ ‌applying‌ ‌to‌ ‌colleges‌ ‌and‌ ‌worrying‌ ‌about‌ ‌what‌ ‌to‌ ‌major‌ ‌in.‌ ‌As‌ ‌it‌ ‌was,‌ ‌when‌ ‌the‌ ‌spell‌ ‌broke,‌ ‌he‌ ‌was‌ ‌trapped‌ ‌in‌ ‌his‌ ‌tail.‌ ‌There‌ ‌was‌ ‌nothing‌ ‌to‌ ‌be‌ ‌done.‌ ‌Mimmi‌ ‌tried‌ ‌to‌ ‌recast‌ ‌the‌ ‌transformation‌ ‌and‌ ‌failed.‌ ‌They‌ ‌tried‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌moon‌ ‌pool,‌ ‌too.‌ ‌Since‌ ‌no‌ ‌one‌ ‌knew‌ ‌what‌ ‌Nerissa‌ ‌did‌ ‌to‌ ‌give‌ ‌him‌ ‌such‌ ‌a‌ ‌complete‌ ‌transformation,‌ ‌they‌ ‌only‌ ‌had‌ ‌theories‌ ‌to‌ ‌work‌ ‌with.‌ ‌The‌ ‌most‌ ‌likely‌ ‌was‌ ‌magical‌ ‌backlash.‌ ‌He‌ ‌was‌ ‌born‌ ‌a‌ ‌merman‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌permanent‌ ‌transformation‌ ‌held‌ ‌him‌ ‌in‌ ‌an‌ ‌unnatural‌ ‌state‌ ‌for‌ ‌15‌ ‌years.‌ ‌There‌ ‌was‌ ‌no‌ ‌balance,‌ ‌no‌ ‌break,‌ ‌no‌ ‌reprieve‌ ‌in‌ ‌that‌ ‌entire‌ ‌time.‌ ‌The‌ ‌spell‌ ‌might‌ ‌have‌ ‌held‌ ‌on‌ ‌if‌ ‌it‌ ‌wasn’t‌ ‌weakened‌ ‌when‌ ‌he‌ ‌fell‌ ‌into‌ ‌the‌ ‌moon‌ ‌pool,‌ ‌or‌ ‌it‌ ‌might‌ ‌have‌ ‌broken‌ ‌suddenly‌ ‌on‌ ‌its‌ ‌own.‌ ‌No‌ ‌one‌ ‌was‌ ‌certain‌ ‌of‌ ‌anything‌ ‌except‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌fact‌ ‌that‌ ‌he‌ ‌had‌ ‌a‌ ‌tail‌ ‌for‌ ‌an‌ ‌undetermined‌ ‌amount‌ ‌of‌ ‌time,‌ ‌so‌ ‌he’d‌ ‌better‌ ‌get‌ ‌used‌ ‌to‌ ‌it.‌

He had played it off as a spontaneous camping trip to his parents. One phone call from Cam and they were clear for the weekend. The mermaid council had been supportive of him attempting to get his legs back. It would cause significantly less complications for him to continue living as he had been. But, even with their support and help, he was no closer to walking than he had been when his tail forced itself free in the middle of Rita’s grotto.

Veridia and the rest of the council addressed him, “Zac, we believe that the magic that forced you into your human form is doing this. It’s demanding the balance that has long been denied.” The council shared a look that set Zac on edge. “It’s possible that it will demand full payment. You spent a little more than 15 years as a land-boy. The magic may require you to spend the same amount of time as a merman. We are hopeful that the year and a half you lived with your tail might reduce the time, but -”

Zac swallowed and blinked. His chest hurt and pressure built behind his eyes. The future he had planned for himself vanished. Fifteen years. He would be into his 30s. Merpeople didn’t seem to age as quickly as humans, but it wouldn’t matter. By the time he would be able to stay on land again, the human world would fundamentally change. And Evie. He had thought that maybe after college he could ask her to marry him. There was no way he could ask that of her now. And his parents. He would have to tell them something. He couldn’t just vanish off the face of the earth. He had records on land. As far as the Australian government was concerned, he was Zac Blakely recent high school graduate and future college freshman. His parents had already paid the tuition, so Griffith University was expecting him to show up in a couple of months.

“The council feels that it would be irresponsible to not tell your adoptive parents anything. If they decide to search for you, it would lead the land people directly to the Pod. You are being given permission to tell them everything they need to know and understand that you are safe.”

Zac’s heart beat erratically. He had kept the secret from them for so long that he couldn’t figure out what he was feeling.

“We understand if it takes some time to approach them, but you must tell them. The sooner the better.” 

Zac swallowed, but could only muster a mumbled, “Thank you, Veridia.”

The head of the mermaid council nodded and vanished beneath the surface.

Zac startled when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

“Do you want me to come with you?”

“Thanks, Mimmi. But, I think I need to do this on my own.”

OK,here’s my shipping story(maybe you don’t care,but,since we’re talking,I’m gonna tell ya...^__^):

-I used to watch“H2O”when it aired for the 1st time in Italy,probably around 2010,then I haven’t rewatched it for years and I forgot many things and characters,including Zane. I’m not even sure I’ve ever watched season 2&3 back then but 1 thing I was absolutely SURE of is that I used to love Cleo and expecially Rikki(mainly because I thought they were beautiful and since I have a thing for blondies with blue eyes,Rikki was obviously the one I had a crush on.😍).

-When“Mako Mermaids”1st aired in Italy I saw the trailer and I thought it was a movie...it didn’t look that good to me,but I’ve stumbled upon it by chance and I started to watch it.The next day,same(and so I discovered it was actually a serie).I used to find it pretty boring,to be honest,but I had litterally nothing better to do or to watch so I went on.Anyway,I used to hate both Evie and Lyla.I couldn’t stand any of them!

-When I was watching ep 1x10,Zac&Lyla got trapped together in a cave and I said out loud:“PREVENTIVE RECORDING!!!”I had the feeling that that was a scene I may have wanted to watch again so I started recording it and not only I was right but the moment Zac asked Lyla why did she follow him,she answered:“You couldn’t come by yourself!What if something happened to you?”and he replied:“You really care about me that much?”and she looked at him without answering and then rushed to look for an exit I was like:“I KNEW IT!!!🤩I KNEW IT,I KNEW IT,I KNEW IT!!!^O^ Lyla likes Zac!!!😍”and in that exact moment Lyla passed from being my most hated character to my favorite character AND I started to actually find MM worth watching!All because I SUDDENLY started to ship her with Zac!And I still HATE today that they have COPIED her character and her lovestory in season 2 with Ondina&Erik and that THEY were actually canon while Zac&Lyla never technically were!And also that Evie became a mermaid! It was litterally like they wanted to ERASE Lyla from the existence and I will NEVER accept that!!!😡🤬

-Eventually I also found out MM was actually a spin-off of“H2O”so I re-watched that show either,but before doing it I found some posts and I instinctly didn’t like Zane,even if I didn’t remember him at all.

-When I actually started to re-watch“H2O”I found myself still in love with Rikki and Cleo,but I also admitted that Rikki was a far worse character than I remembered(for example for the way she treated Charlotte).On the other hand,I did confirm my hatred for Zane,to the point,during a challenge,I made a video about him and...well...you judge...

-As for the gay vibes,I do feel them between Mimmi&Ondina and Rita&Veridia and also a bit potential with Lyla&Nixie(and I WISH Cam&David were gay!)but the“H2O”girls...no.😕I know a lot of people ship Rikki&Emma,but I just don’t see it.

Low key thinking of doing a fic based around combining H2O: Just Add Water and Mako Mermaids. It would start at S2 of H2O, feelings on Charlotte as a character seem to be mixed so depending I'd either make her a friend and scrap the fighting entirely, make her a better villain and get rid of the girls disliking her for no reason at first, or give her some sort of minor redemption, not necessarily being a friend but hostilities ceasing (according to posts I've seen, the main trio act horribly to her and she hadn't done anything wrong at that point, so that's what these ideas are mostly based around with her. I haven't seen it in so long I can't really remember. I'd definitely try and find somewhere to rewatch it so I could see for myself how I felt before deciding for sure.) I'm definitely scraping S3's obliteration of Zane's character development because it pissed me off, and either he and Rikki stay together because I'm a slut for enemies to lovers trope, possibly making it poly, or they're both gay and each other's beards once they realize for a bit. Idk yet on that. S3 time period is when I introduce the MM stuff, with the theory I saw awhile ago that the pod leaves around when the planet alignment thing happens, but they don't know for sure so it's like a couple years that they're gone, and they come back fairly soon after it's happened. Zack (I think is his name) turns into a merman so the Mako 3 come to pretend to be human, as in that show, but the H2O 3 are also kinda seen as a possible problem. The two groups start out weary of each other, but the H2O 3 start to help the Mako 3, seeing they're clearly struggling, and wind up being tentative friends. At some point Emma goes on that canon trip, and Bella comes in, which introduces the other 2 H2O girls (and Emma because calling and texting) to the concept of other moon pools, and other moon pools giving different powers. S3 of H2O and S1 of Mako basically happen at the same time, and dealing with the meteor proves to the natural mermaids that the H2O group is entirely deserving of their powers, and they find out that's what happened with the old Irish mermaid (Ava I think? Idk for sure that's also the name of a character of mine so I could be confused) and that all natural mermaids are just the descendants of girls like the H2O group. Then it focuses more on the Mako storyline, with the H2O group there and helping and learning more powers mermaids have, eventually along with Evie, and Nixie for sure and I think Layla (sp?) get to stay around when Mimmi and Ondine (idk either of their spellings tbh) show up because I love them both and while I may let characters rotate "out" to a more minor role so I don't have too many to keep track of I'm still gonna keep more around, and not have them be barely/not mentioned again. Anyway I don't remember the plot to Mako as well so I'll have to brush up on it but I've got plenty of ideas, it's just whether they'll ever see the light of day lol

Mako Mermaids F/Feb Day 28 Daisy

Day 28 Daisy - Rita/Veridia, 514 words, Rating G

“I thought we said no more cats.”

Veridia made her way up through the house trying to find Rita before finally hearing movement in the kitchen. The first thing she saw was Rita standing in the kitchen with a tiny ball of black and white fur in her arms, a little yellow collar around its neck and two more cats at her feet. The two tabby at Rita’s feet being two other cats Rita had adopted last year. The black and white one in her arms however was a new addition. 

“We did, so I got a kitten. She’s just a foster before you get too annoyed.”

“We have five cats already. Two of which where also ‘just a foster’ then you adopted them anyways,” Veridia pointed to the tabbies at Rita’s feet. 

“That’s because Mer and Crissy bonded to each other and Buttercup loved them too much to let them go to another home. And besides, if you really didn’t want more cats, you would have explicitly said no more cats in the way you do when you really mean something.”

“I did,” Veridia tried to argue but the moment the words came out of her mouth she knew she was loosing this one. 

“No, you said it in the way where you really mean yes but you want it to seem like it’s my idea to get more cats when really you secretly also want more cats.”

Veridia just sighed, “what’s this one called then?” There was no point arguing when Rita was right. Her wife was the only one who could match and beat her in an argument. 

“Daisy. We’ve already got a Buttercup so it fits the theme. I was thinking Izzie but Daisy just suits her better.”

“Is Daisy going to get adopted too?” Theme names are a bad sign. She had known the moment Rita came home with Meredith and Cristina the cats that both were going to be staying even before they became a bonded pair. She’d watched too much Grey’s Anatomy with Rita to not recognise the names. 

“Very likely. Unless you really want no more cats. Then she will just be a foster until they find her a new home.”

Seeing Rita fussing with the tiny cat like she’d seen Mimmi do with her actual baby, there was no way Veridia could say no. The cats were Rita’s babies, they made her happy and Rita being happy made Veridia happy. 

“We can get another cat.”

“You’re the best and I love you very much.”

“But Rita, I mean this - the limit is eight. Once we hit eight there is to be no more. That eight includes fosters. If we adopt eight - no more fostering.”

“That’s fair. I can accept that.”

“Good. I love you too.”

Veridia crossed the room and gave Rita a kiss. 

“I’m serious about the eight cat limit.”

“That’s fine because I got a call about half an hour after I got home with Daisy they found another of her litter. She’s called Peach and I think she would fit in perfectly.”

Fanfic Idea

So, there’s a fan fiction that I love it’s called paranormal paradox on wattpad by XxdeepwatersxX it’s an amazing fic about what if there where more dragons that weren’t peoples that were transformed into them. A chapter in it got me thinking. What if Harry never really died? What if Rita only thinks he died. What if to Rita’s knowledge Harry died by an accident like he drowned or something, but really he was turned into a water dragon by a mermaid? What if it was Veridia, jealous of Harry because she loves Rita? Kind of the how Mimmi was jealous of Erik when he was dating Ondina (because we all know Mimmi and Ondina are in love. Do not fight me on this because I will win) Or maybe Aurora who has somekind of connection to Rita that idea comes from a theory that was written into a fic called the story of aurora by mako_tails_and_stuff on ao3, about Rita being aurora? What if Rita and aurora are sisters and Rita doesn’t know? What if they were separated when they were little and Rita forgot about Aurora? What if Aurora was trying to be a protective older sister by getting rid of Harry but instead hurt Rita? What if after season 4 ended Harry in water dragon form goes to mako after discovering that the gang managed to free nerissa in hope to also be freed and reunite with Rita? And then after they manage to do so Aurora comes out of hiding when she figures out that the gang undid her spell on Nerissa, where she discovers the spell she put on Harry is also undone. Then Rita discovers that Aurora is her sister or that Veridia was the one who cast the spell on Harry and maybe is working with aurora?? But wait hears another plot twist, when the spell on Harry is undone he finds out that Rita is dating someone. I don’t know I’m to into this idea maybe I should right my own fic about this. (Also I wrote this at like 10 last night and am literally posting this on my way to school sooo). Also thanks Silver Mermaids for the Idea of a one shot I’ll be sure to use it.

Mako Mermaids F/Fem Day 10

Day 10 Plush Rita/Veridia 400 words, Rated G (mentions of pregnancy) 

It was becoming a recurring habit. Everytime Veridia let Rita go out shopping without her and especially when Rita went out shopping with Mimmi and Sirena, without fail, she returned home with some sort of new plush toy. 

Every one was declared to be “for the baby” and was carefully arranged on the tall corner shelving unit. 

The baby, who was still safely inside her mother's stomach, owned an awful lot of plush toys. 

Today was no exception. Rita and Sirena had gone clothes shopping to get new outfits for Ondina and Weilan's upcoming wedding and on top of their outfits also bought an entire wardrobe worth of baby clothes and of course a new toy. 

This one was a pink squishy plush dinosaur.

“I tried to stop her,” Sirena defended as soon as Veridia entered the baby room. 

“You were trying to convince me to get the Sushi Cat instead. That's enabling, not stopping.”

“Rita, I think Baby has more than enough plushes at this point.”

“Never. She kicks whenever we go past that toy shop that has all the squishmallows in the window,” Rita put a hand on her belly. It was a small bump for almost eight month along but everything was progressing fine. Or as well as it could for the Mermaid daughter of two Mermaids living on land. 

“I love those squishmallows! David's niece has a ton and they're awesome. She's got this massive Ariel one from the Little Mermaid.”

“Aww, I think baby would really like one.”

“Okay you're banned from shopping.”

“I'll just go online then. I'm two votes right now in any discussion, I win by default. And I say we need an Ariel squishmallow. Then I will consider that we have enough plushies for the little bean.” 

“I think that's the best you'll get,” Sirena said, as she helped Rita unpack the growing pile of baby clothes on the floor.

“It is,” Rita agreed. 

“For all the things I want our baby to have of you, I really hope your obsessive collection isn't one because we already have a lot of stuff. Two of you would drown us in belongings.”

“That - I can agree with my love. Can you add this to the shelf please?” 

Rita held out the pink dinosaur.  Veridia begrudgingly took the plush and nestled it in the back of the only shelf with room left on it.

Mako Mermaids Femslash Feb Day 4 Field

Day 4 Field Rita/Veridia, 629 words, Rated G

 “I still never understand how you manage to convince me to do these things.”

Rita just laughed, “you said it looked fun.”

The latest ‘thing’ in question was horse riding. Veridia had come along a few times when Rita rode but had yet to sit on one herself, until now.

Rita had borrowed a horse from Harry’s brother Hector specifically for Veridia. A short grey mare about 14 hands at a push with dapples all over, fluffy feathers and long braided mane called Lady. Rita’s own mare stood about a hand higher, a more trimmed up grey with short mane and trimmed tail she had called Silvade. 

The horses had been calm and settled while she had helped Veridia groom and tack up while taking care of Silvade at the same time. Both of their horses tied up outside the yard in the shade. There was a small breeze and soft buzzing of bees and chirps of birds as they chatted away while working, talking over recent lessons classes and laughing over the antics of the young Mermaids. 

“You ready?” Rita set the riding hat on Veridia’s head but popping her own on and clipping it under her chin.

“I guess?” 

“You’ll be all good,” Rita leaned in and kissed Veridia, angling her head very carefully so as to not bump helmets, “I’ll help you up.” 

The first couple minutes had been a little touchy but Veridia had eased into it quickly after just a couple pointers. Rita led them out on one of the well used trails, it crossed through the woodland area out the back of Dove Ranch before running alongside the neighbouring farmland and looping back through the woods heading back to the ranch. 

The sun filtered through the trees and the hooves thudded on the ground in a comforting rhythm. 

“You feel up for going faster?” Rita grinned at Veridia.

“This isn’t fast enough?” 

“Not by a long shot,” Rita laughed. “Wrap her mane around your fingers and hold on to the saddle if need be. Trot is a bit bumpy but for the canter just go with her. It almost feels like being on a wave, rocking back and forth.”

“I guess.”

The mares trotted forward in sync before Rita urged Silvade up into the canter, Lady right beside them. The rest of the woodland passed in a blur before they slowed back to a walk before the trail turned to the farmland.

“How was that?” Rita asked.

“It was pretty fun.”

“See, I told you, the next part is even better but it might be too much even for a Mermaid. We may have some weird innate riding ability but I’m not sure is a full gallop up the length of the field is a good idea.”

“What is with that ability? It feels really redundant for Mermaids.”

“I honestly have no idea.” 

The mud track of the woods turned to grass as they hit the farmland. A huge field of wheat lay out in front of them, the gold stalks drifting listlessly in the breeze and the sun illuminating the very tips. 

They halted their horses and let them graze. 

“It’s pretty,” Veridia remarked.

“Look at you appreciating land sights.”

“I can appreciate when something’s pretty you know.”

“So can I, my love,” Rita focused on Veridia as she directed her words to her wife. 

“Aren’t you sweet.”

“I try.”

“I think I’m up for trying your thing.”

“You sure?”

“Let’s do it.”

The golden field of wheat blurred away to nothing as the pair raced alongside the wheat stalks. As Rita turned to sneak glances at Veridia the Mermaid’s hair was shining gold in the sun just like the field beside them and she had the biggest smile on her face.

Rita - I had some for her but completely forgot them so I'm going for "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence.

Rita X Veridia - as you know I have a few XD but one that always stuck out for me was "Disappear" by Tonight Alive. That one reminded me if Rita X Veridia the first time I listened to it and it just stuck.

Mako Mermaids F/Feb Day 13

Day 13 Sunflower, Ondina/Weilan, 397 words, Rating G

“Where are we going?” Ondina asked for easily the twentieth time.

“You’ll see,” Weilan replied, also for the twentieth time. Every time Ondina asked, she gave the same response. She had originally planned to tell Ondina but it started to become amusing seeing Ondina’s exasperated sigh and grumpy pout every time Weilan refused to tell her. 

She had gotten the idea from Rita, taking Ondina to the Sunflower Fields after herself and Veridia went a few years ago. Weilan had seen many photos across Instagram of other people at various other sunflower fields across the world and it looked pretty cool.

“If you’re not going to tell me can I at least choose the music?” Ondina huffed.

“What’s wrong with mine?” 

Sure her taste was varied but she’d made some awesome road trip mixes with the help of Zac and Cam. She’d even been nice enough to pick one of the more subdued mix. Cam went pretty hard with playlists sometimes - road tripping with him was always a good time. 

“I don’t like it. Too loud.” 

Weilan pouted, mirroring Ondina’s expression from earlier. She took her hand off the gear stick and let it rest on Ondina’s thigh just under the hem of her shorts. 

“Whatever you want my sweet and wondrous Mermaid. Your happiness is my utmost importance even in matters as trivial as the music we listen to while we drive.”

Ondina just scoffed and took out a CD from the bag at her feet. “Sirena gave us copies of her CD, David got them made.”

“Ooh nice, pop it in then. We’re taking the next exit so we’ll be there soon.”

“Where is it we’re going again?”

“You’ll see.” 

Weilan followed the directions on her phone, the google voice reading them aloud for her. 

“Close your eyes for me?” She asked Ondina, “please.”

“Since you said please,” Ondina rolled her eyes before closing them. Weilan parked up and helped Ondina out, turning her to face the rows of sunflowers laid out before them. It was every bit as pretty as she thought it would be. Of course everything pales compared to Ondina’s beauty but that’s just the way of it. 

“3,2,1 and open your eyes!” 

“Wow.”

“Ta-da, sunflower field!”

“It’s beautiful.”

“Not as beautiful as you,” Weilan took her moment to kiss Ondina before dragging her over the path through the field.
