18: Most traumatic experience

Last year November through December and January this year. First some hospital stays.

I spent most of the time of christmas, my birthday and New Year's Eve on two deathbeds of loved ones. In January I attended three funerals within two weeks. Had one surgery close behind with narcosis and ready to give up in these three months.

This paired with people being umsympathetic and hating me for not being there for them, for having no energy left to write with them... It took a heavy toll. Many relationship were cut becauseof this. I was the bad person, getting left behind despite offering a second chance.

I don't know if you've made a post about it already, but if you haven't here is a free excuse to talk about any and all peafowl/mouse/anything else breeding goals you have and how they're coming along so far!

I saved this so I could ramble at will XD But thank you dear!!

Tonight I'm gonna talk about how the mice are all doing! Black line, siamese line, plus the "Side" mice I definitely don't have.

So! In mouse news, this is my tracking document currently.

I have been in the process for the last two weeks of culling my F1 generation. The two bucks were hard culls since they cannot be rehomed or housed except by themselves (which isn't fair to a social creature), and the remaining F1 does were retired to a large play cage to be moved to a friend's feeder breeding colony next weekend. Today I was able to retire the last doe, 21016, which means I am officially moving forward from F2 only.

WELL. I do have an F1 taylor-show buck that I will be mixing into the group soon, because they have a LOT better type than the Colony line. So, I'm going to give them a chance to give me a couple of "F2" litters with the F3 mice. The hope is that I can mix their good type genetics into the larger colony in a way that "catches up" to where I am with the original line. Line breeding isn't necessarily BAD as long as there's not health issues, but outcrossing is way easier to do in an early generation than it will be to do a few generations on.

But, moving forward with F2 only is AWESOME because the F2 mice actually mostly look pretty decent. They're not going to win any shows, but their pigment saturation is noticeably different from that of a feeder mouse. I showed one of the young F2 does in the July virtual show, and she absolutely didn't place, but her entry to the show wasn't a joke or offense to the judges.

I currently have 11 adult F2 does, with 9 more growing out as we speak. I will be pulling the two F2 males to single house for a little bit, so that I can cull the doe population. I will choose the best 10-15 by adult pigment (checking toes and tails for white tips), and then allow them all into a bin together for social temperament testing, and size/tail comparisons. I will choose by pigment first, and then temperament, and then tail length/ear set, until I get to the best 8 of the group. The other 12 will retire to be sold as pets.

I also, rather significantly, weaned the first F3 litter this week, and I have 8 more does that have dropped (or will soon drop) F3 pups. There are still 3 does that have not quite gotten pregnant (or at least aren't showing), so they will have a few more days with the males before I separate the males out. I will likely replace them fairly quickly with F3 males, but they will stay until I am sure I have fertile F3 males.

The siamese are currently (mostly) on maintenance. I reduced their population to half, retiring a lot of the older does, and I'm very minorly selecting for better does and replacing the males as I find better from "there aren't enough does to make 4-6 pups in this litter so I will leave this male or two in" culls. I just showed the first siamese doe in the 2021 July virtual show, and she mostly held her own; the judge remarked on her light feet (something I haven't been selecting for or against), and her high ear set (which I will be working on for them). It's nice to have a clear direction to head with them.

I have 2 cages of blue mice now; a doe with a 4 pup litter and a cage with 2 males and a female that are growing out. The better male will stay here, and the other will be going to my friend's feeder breeding colony with the does. I really like the blues, but I don't have room to do a full scale betterment plan with them right now, so I'll just be selecting a few healthy does and the best looking male from any litters, and just sort of have a couple cages of them for fun. Hopefully sometime next year when the black line is looking a lot better, I can maybe begin a blue line. We'll see.

I also have 2 cages of the tricolor mice, which are siamese based (which is great). I also don't have room to keep these guys as a real line, but I will hopefully have enough of them around that I could start a line when I do have space. I have a few babies growing out, and if nothing else they will be REALLY easy to sell as pets because they're fucking gorgeous little things.

Lastly, I have 4.0's experimental mice. These are going to be the toughest lol They SHOULD be just 2 cages (parents and then babies), or possibly 3, so I'm hoping that he doesn't start genetics until after I've got the F2 mice sorted out and back down to better numbers. My HOPE is that he starts his genetics stuff a week or two later so that I can have space just in time. I have a feeling he's going to want to do a second round so we can see what the babies produce with each other.

Well we got C, who puts up with me since our first high school year. Then there’s A, who came a year later, we fought fiercely a couple of times, but without them I’d be a totally different person. Latest additions are L, who’s both like a younger AND older brother for me, and C, who hugged me last night for five minutes straight for no reason and I almost teared up T-T

I think so? The most important thing tho is: do I like them back??? I have no interest in being liked by insects. Or horses lol

Mmmh if I don’t like it I simply stop reading it. There is Roald Dahl’s “witches” I read when I was in middle school, and it deeply worried me. Then this year came out the movie and it just creeps me out

Less weird and more unusual and endearing, once there was this piano player in the streets playing a slow song. At some point, a toddler waddled towards him with a coin, tugged at the pianist’s jacket and offered him the coin. The pianist smiled, accepted the coin and asked if the little boy had any requests. The boy asked for a song from a cartoon I think, and the pianist obliged smiling 🥺

I wish I could spend more time with my best friend because I’m gonna leave for the summer and I’m afraid he’s either gonna feel lonely or make new friends while I’m away.

I’ve got a jack russel named Mia and an European cat named Menny.

Mia barks at anything and everyone coming near our home door, and goes crazy when she hears fireworks. She’s afraid of the hair drier and vacuum cleaner. She’s fit, white and with a couple of light brown spots. One of her spot on her side looks like a heart if looked by the right angle. She’s not very friendly with other dogs, and pulls a lot when we go out with her. Since we got wood floorings, her nails tap tap tap at each and every step she makes. She’s not allowed on our beds because she looses lots of fur, but that doesn’t stop her from trying and sleeping on them whenever we’re distracted enough to leave the door open :/

Menny is cuddly and very quiet, meows very rarely and only to let me know he reeeally wants to go in my room. He’s somehow figured out how to open doors and sometimes we’ll be looking for him and find him sleeping on one of our beds. He’s the spoiled baby of the family, and loves to ride on my shoulders. My mom thought he was special because he’s got what looks like the letter M on his forehead, so she went ‘we gotta give him a name starting with M!!!’ But that’s actually a characteristic of his breed. I call him Zuzu and Bubu and anything other than Menny, and when my mom finds him sleeping on my bed or kneading my stomach she calls him Traitor.

Not really. I mull over lots of mistakes I did in the past, and notice when I’m doing it again, but I’m kind of inveterate on certain topics :(

She still kept coming, over and over. This time venturing into the open waters (like the daring idiot she was), not knowing that the reason for there basically being no humans around, was because the water was treacherous. She almost drowned, but Taras, having been watching from underwater, saved her. Taras had yelled at her for being stupid, but she smiled again, “I found you.” 

She fought in the first wizarding war in 1970. But stopped fighting when she got pregnant in 1972. In 1975, she wanted to go back and help, but Taras wouldn’t have it. Saying that humans should be left to their own demise. Pissed off, she left for a walk. She never came back. Her body was later found near the docks of a nearby village.

First met in their Second year, both wanting privacy. Talbott was annoyed to have her around, as was she. After a while, they both realized they just wanted to be away from large crowds of people. So they became friends. 

Anemone tried her best to keep her siren form a secret. However, she saw Talbott transform into his Animagus form, he kept his distance from her there after. She confronted him one day, dragging him to the Black Lake. Once there, she dove head first into the water, not resurfacing for a good minute. Talbott panicked, until she peered her head out of the water. “Can you keep a secret?” Talbott could only nod. To which she raised her tail out of the water. Since then, the two became inseparable. 

Talbott asked her out on a date in their fourth year. Then they went steady in their fifth year. 

Taras, her father, was largely against it. Always glaring at Talbott when he came over in the summer of their fifth year going into sixth year. At one point telling him that he could kill him if he wanted to. Talbott wasn’t too afraid, as he shrugged it off as a father(beast) being overprotective of his child, and knowing full well how much merfolk hated humas. 

They both became aurors and helped fight in the second wizarding war. After the war, they continued to work for the ministry and had twins (a boy and girl). Both gaining the ability to entrance with their singing and being able to turn into sirens, though for a limited time.

Background/History

Anemone was born and raised near Milos, Greece. Often visiting the Tsigrado beach. Her father and mother would take her to the beach as often as they could. Sometimes she would stay in the ocean with her father for days at a time, while her mother stayed in town. It was the happiest three years of her life. 

She hated the muggles and witches/wizards in Milos because of how poorly they treated the animals and ocean. She would always find trash, plastics around the beaches. At age five, her and her father rescued a dolphin from an “aquarium”. Not so much an aquarium as a small pool, the size of a jacuzzi. 

The following year, she almost sang a couple of muggle teens off a cliff to their death for torturing a turtle, before her father interfered. 

That same year, she had befriended a wizard who could turn into an eagle. They never told each other their names, and he left the area after only a month. He was the only human that she found trustworthy, since he helped save some birds. 

At Hogwarts, she kept to herself, and minded her own business. Only Dumbledore, McGonagall, and the ministry knew of her lineage, Which was kept secret for her safety. 

She made friends with Talbott, in second year. She then realized it was her old friend from years ago, so she confided her secret to him. 

Beatrice began to hang out with her, to spite her sister, to which Anemone protested, but at the same time, didn’t care. Beatrice found out about her siren self, when she followed her one day to Hogwart’s underground pool. She thought it was amazing and promised to never tell a soul. 

Tonks became her friend in first year, loving that they were both metamorphmagus. Anemone accepted her being around, as it was easier to ignore her than to avoid her.

Barnaby Lee: Well obviously when they first met it wasn’t so...nice. He threatened to vanish the bones from her body, she challenged him to try like the reckless Gryff she is. However, once Aleksia got to know him, she saw the kindness in his heart and how incredibly sweet he was, which made her eventually fall for him. Aleksia became very protective of him, and ensured that he never felt stupid or unwanted. She knows what it is like to be treated like an idiot, so she makes sure no one treats him that way. 

Merric Nyx and Revena Sevier ( my ocs): Their relationship is siblings. They met back one of the times that Aleksia’s father locked her out of the house, and Merric and Revena made friends with her. She’s very protective of them. 

Penny Haywood: at first she was slightly intimidated by her popularity and thought that she was going to be one of those fake nice people. However, as she got to know Penny she found out that she just was genuinely a nice person. They became very close, and now considers her to one of her best friends. 

Rowan Khanna:  Rowan is Aleksia’s number one supporter since day one. Even though Rowan can be extreme at times, she comes from a place of care. Aleksia considers her to be like another sister and would do anything for her friend. They study alot together and share a similar love for books. 

Talbott Winger: After getting to know Talbott and helping him find his mothers necklace, they found themselves growing close. Sometimes they just enjoy each others company in silence while they read books or just have a conversation about how they want to make the future better. 

CLOSEST MC FRIENDS:

Lau King: @slytherin-puffskein Lau and her may be Gryffindor and Slytherin, but they do share a love of mischief and rebellion, even if Aleksia’s is smaller than his. Aleksia may have wanted to fight Lau once because of cookies but she would do anything to protect the sweet orchid boy. He is deemed as her tol freckled son and she will fight anyone who messes with him. She loves giving him hugs and talking with him because he is such an amazing listener. She has definetely fought people for them saying anything about him being a muggleborn. Felix Rosier and Angelica Cole both love and hate these two before the time they leave Hogwarts. 

Sonia Azur: @onboroo This girl. She thinks she is awesome and totally tries to set her and Merric up. Though at first Sonia’s cool nature may have made her think that she didn’t like her, they slowly warmed up to each other and considers Sonia to be a valuable friend. Between her, Merric, Sonia and Revena, they are kind of a force to be reckoned with.  One of her greatest friends for sure.

Alex Johnson ( @cervo-live-in-arts ): Alex is a sweet boi who she considers to be one of her best friends. She likes how open he is about his feelings and encourages him to do so. She will let him vent to her if he so needs. They also enjoy playing Gobstones together, each trying to distract the hell out of each other. Alex becomes God father to her and Barnaby’s kids. She considers him to be like her little brother and is very protective. Alex may have had to hold Aleksia back from headbutting Merula MANY MANY times. 

David Denneth: @callmederok David may seem a bit tough, but he is still a sweet guy, and Aleksia can see that. She thinks that Penny and him are cute, and tries to set them up, only if with consent. They both share a dislike of Merula, and may have set up a few pranks to get back at her before...NOTHING YOU CAN PROVE!!!!!!!!!!! O_O  

Aisling Baskerville @elefseija Aleksia and Aisling are dorm buddies that’s for sure. Both Gryffs are stubborn to the core and together are a great quidditch chaser duo. Both enjoy talking alot in the dorm rooms to the point poor Rowan will probably end up telling the two to shut the hell up. Poor Rowan...XD ahhaa Aleksia is more outgoing but loves quiet moments so I think they would both enjoy reading together. She like Aisling loves mythology, so she would be soaking up any knowledge Aisling has on anything really. Also don’t touch their cookies or talk about either of their heights. They will collectively murder the hell out of you.

Any Kendra headcanons?

I’m supposed to be working right now. I’m staring at my closed laptop right now. It’s Monday night. I really don’t want to be working right now… so I’ll do this now and work tomorrow night instead. XD Thanks for the distraction

We are fortunate to know quite a bit about Kendra from canon itself - like the facts that she sings, plays piano, plays soccer and likes little kids, her birthday is in October, plus we know a lot about her personality traits since half of the series is from her POV. Kendra is wonderful and I love her to pieces. Here are some additional thoughts I have about her:

1. Kendra loves Harry Potter and identifies as a Ravenclaw.

2. She likes to drink tea to help relax. It’s a habit she picked up from Lena all those years ago, and reinforced by her Grandma Sorenson.

3. Kendra’s an anxious child. A vice of hers is that she throws herself into work/projects in order to avoid dealing with her stressors or thinking about her worries too much. She’s able to keep herself going for quite a while that way, but eventually she has a breakdown.

4. Her favorite person on the planet is her brother. She would die if it meant she could protect him. He means the world to her, even though she’d probably never admit it to his face.

5. She’s naturally an introvert. Becoming fairykind and saving Fablehaven, Wyrmroost and the world (some of those things more than once) have pulled her out of her shyness, but she’s still pretty introverted on a normal basis.

6. She crawled into her parents’ bed and slept alongside them at night until she was about 8 years old. Her parents didn’t mind at all. She liked to take naps with one or both of them during the day even as a teenager on occasion.

7. Kendra is a daddy’s girl. She loves both of her parents, but she and her dad share a particularly special bond.

8. She takes up painting and creative writing as hobbies as an older teen, and keeps those hobbies going as an adult.

9. She majored in English in college and eventually got a job as an editor at a publishing company, which allows her to read all day from home. Oh no, the bookworm gets paid to read and edit books. Bummer.

10. As an older teen, Kendra took it upon herself to start trying to expand her powers. Her first goal was to see if she could purposefully tap into the immense reserve of power which resides inside of her. Once she figured that out, she learned that magic is less about making sure to say the right words of the charm and more about intuition and strength of will. (Yeah yeah Green Lantern blah blah blah)

11. Kendra is touchy-feely and loves hugs, holding hands and cuddling. She loves it when the people she cares about take the time to throw their arms around her shoulders or pull her close for a hug.

12. Actions speak louder than words with Kendra, although she does like words, too.

13. She has trust issues with new people she meets, due to the various betrayals she faced as a child. She’s cordial and polite to everyone, but it really takes a lot for her to fully trust someone.

14. Kendra is selfless and would go to all sorts of extremes to help her friends and family. She’s fiercely loyal to the people she loves.

15. As scared or worried as she gets about adventures, she has to admit that she understands the appeal and has enjoyed herself whilst adventuring from time to time.

16. Kendra understands that bravery is not the absence of fear, but rather it’s pushing forward and doing what’s right in spite of your fear.

17. She often sings and hums under her breath without realizing it. The people around her love when she does that; it’s a sign that she’s comfortable with her surroundings.

18. Kendra was the little kid who had to have funerals for all of her pets that died. Marla and Scott got used to having fish funerals in the bathroom.

19. Kendra doesn’t like being the center of attention. She’s perfectly happy to let Seth make a fool out of himself and subsequently hoard the attention.

20. She stands up for what she believes in, whether or not it’s the popular decision.

21. Warren is her hero. She looks up to him and turns to him for comfort, advice and seriously awesome lame dad jokes that make her laugh. He can get her to cheer up when other people have difficulty doing so.

22. Our girl is strong. Not so much physically, but mentally and emotionally. She has her fears and anxieties, yes, but she knows how to push through her problems in order to accomplish a task. She’s got a will of iron and she’s a force to be reckoned with when she’s made up her mind about something.

23. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. She and Vanessa have that in common. Don’t get on her bad list. That being said, Kendra also has a forgiving nature and is likely to come around if she receives a truly heartfelt apology so long as you didn’t murder and/or eat her friends and family; if you did that, there’s no forgiveness for you.

24. She has a soft spot for baby animals.

25. Kendra likes giving and receiving gifts. She puts a lot of thought into the gifts she gives, and she really appreciates it when people put thought into the gifts they give to her.

Ravenclaw, proudly so. 2. Who is your favourite professor at Hogwarts? Remus. By far. He’s the kind of teacher that we would need a hundred times over and more in our schools. 3. Would you have an owl, cat, or toad? ohmygod give me an owl to pet and send my letters, I still want to have my much loved black cat Nonny at home back tho 4. Favourite character and why? Ufff, tough one. Albus Dumbledore is turning more and more into my favourite at the time because Fantastic Beasts gives him even more depths, aspects of the Harry Potter books make more sense now and I’ve developed a good many headcanons about him and his feelings over the decades by now. On the other hand, I still adore Luna to pieces because she’s so loving and the special kind of person that I tend to gravitate to in reality. Also, I sure as heck relate to being bullied all your damned school career. Can’t really decide, honestly. 5. Pro or anti Marauders? Okay, this is a direct contradiction to having been bullied for 7 years: I’m a bit conflicted about them. I love the Marauders as a concept of very strong male friendship, coming of age, growing up in war times... Still, I’m well aware how shitty a person James and Sirius had been towards Severus, and man, I was so sorry to see him dangle upside down in 7.2, but it’s that friendship aspect that fascinates me. (And Wolfstar, Remus and Sirius, will forever be my OTP that I consider very much in tune with the canon and you can pry it from my cold dead hands.) Even if I never got the whole enemies to lovers between Lily and James. Until somebody explains to me how that happened, I’ll be a bit sceptic about that. I mean, a guy pestering you for a date who just won’t get the hint to leave you bloody alone already? Meh. 6. Avada Kedavra, Crucio, or Imperio? Man, this is a cruel one. Imperio, I’d say, cause it’s the most “““harmless”““ one. Take this with a huge grain of salt. 7. Favourite book and why? At the moment, Jane Eyre. Read it just before Christmas last year for uni and adored it from start to finish for all its directness, unmasked honesty of the conditions of early victorian times, Jane being the most self-respecting person I have ever encountered in a book and the tender love story between her and Mister Rochester. 8. Who do you think was the best father figure towards Harry? Remus. I still wish he could have grown up under his tender care. 9. Favourite movie and why? Interstellar. No unnecessary love story despite the fact that the setting very much would have allowed one between the main character Cooper and the female young Doctor Brand, for once, secondly, I’ve been in love with realistic space movies for ages and this one is by far the best in my opinion. The relationship between Cooper and his daughter Murphy is so heartbreakingly loving from start to finish, I always, ALWAYS cry during the last half hour and frankly, the director Christopher Nolan is a genius. People say I’m like the latter one all the time due to my perfectionism in History and Literature (that honestly only developed when I started uni last semester, I was a mixture of okay and shit at school) and, as I said, being bullied makes you like the bullied characters more. But she’s unbroken. I admire that a lot in her. It sure as hell didn’t leave me as untouched... 11. Who was the most evil character? Umbridge. Discussion over. His character is fascinating and I loved his redemption ark, but I’d never in a lifetime want him anywhere near children to teach because he was the picture example of How Not To Be A Teacher At All. Being amused by scaring students, a fucking cynic (which stems from his character, yes, but keep that out of the class room please), favouring and mistreating certain students due to their House (or parents, for that matter)... Nope. I’ve had enough of that type in my school time, thank you very much. But as a character, he’s very interesting indeed. If you want to read a Snape that’s just as grumpy, magically capable, dark and dangerous but very much lovable in the end, read Naomi Novik’s Uprooted. Trust me. The wizard the Dragon is Snape 1:1 and it’s just so hilarious how blatant the adaption was done, I loved it. 13. Who was the bravest character in Harry Potter and why? Harry himself, I think. To sacrifice yourself so that others can live is the greatest act of bravery in my opinion. He stood up for others time and time again, somehow survived years of neglect and difficult years in school at the best of times, he would have had every right to throw it all to hell at one point, turn his back on everybody and leave. But he didn’t. 14. Best subject at Hogwarts? Transfiguration and Charms would fascinate me the most, I think, because essentially it’s the core of everyday magic. It fascinates me infinitely what one could do with Magic in Harry Potter. 15. Worst subject at Hogwarts? Potions, by far. I can’t cook, I’d be shite at Potions. xD 16. Who would be your enemy or enemies at Hogwarts? I absolutely agree with Harry that Draco was the worst, although I ship the two to death in a fanon sense and in the movies. It’s p small and it has lots of art I can actually appreciate on the walls and it’s got a low ceiling and kind of a comforting, dark-but-still-sunny den kind of vibe. The booths are actually comfortable. A lot of wood and smokey colours. There’s a slate fireplace crackling somewhere. It smells strongly of coffee and vaguely of liquorice. There’s a spot at the back that’s mostly hidden from site, the perfect place to curl up and read a book while picking on a muffin that was reasonably cheap but the size of your whole hand. Closest place to heaven on earth.

40.what was your biggest fear as a kid? is it the same today?

Not being able to breathe. Pretty much, ya.

OKAY SO. Ria is absolutely OBSESSED with her ball, and I mean OBSESSED to the point where she has no idea what to do with herself if you take it away and gets all anxious and whines and paces till you give it back. She constantly sheds and she does this sUpER CuTe thing where she wraps her front paw around your leg while you’re trying to walk and trips you. :))) Granger is either made of metal or a deflated pool toy and there’s no in between. She eats literally anything, including ants nests bc you know they must taste GREAT. She’s super stubborn. She gets smile wrinkles if you rub her neck. Maudie was rescue we got as a really small puppy. We only knew her mum but her dad must have been a Pomeranian bc she looks almost exactly like one. She has this thing where she bites you when you surprise her but really she’s a sweetheart. She’s mostly blind and deaf and has no idea where she is most of the time, I don’t think. XD The chickens are all idiots, the ducks are scared of me but still eat out of my hand when I offer them grapes. Haymitch likes to jump up on my back, Effie likes falling asleep on my lap, and Cinna pecks me a lot and leaves bruises but she lets me stroke her at night when she’s dozing off. :’)

Calay Indochina Trip (April 17-22, 2018)

Jealousy is something that needed to be addressed for a better relationship. So when my Tatay got jealous of my Hong Kong trip last October 2017, I acquired insomnia. My mind can't stop thinking of the best place where my Tatay can get a great experience with a very small budget. Thanks to Colz’ post in DIY Philippines Facebook Group about her Indochina Trip, I finally got some sleep. They day after the long peaceful sleep, I immediately invited my friends who I know love to travel also. Fortunately, I convinced my Baka-chan, Reinee, and Johnrey. This is the start of our failed and unsatisfying but definitely unforgettable Indochina trip that we will surely laugh about when we get older.

Planning for Indochina Trip really needs a lot of research. Imagine going into one country after another, one should really know everything that he/she needs to know.

DAY 1

Thanks to Traveloka, we were blessed to find an Airasia seatsale going to Ho Chi Mihn, Vietnam with connecting flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. So we automatically had an additional country aside from our original Vietnam-Cambodia-Thailand travel.

We exchanged our peso to Ringgit in NAIA just to be sure to have a money to spend enough for DAY 1. It is better to change your money in NAIA than in any airport of the country you are going into.

We depart from Manila around 5:30 PM and arrived at Kuala Lumpur by 9:05 PM. KL's airport is really big. We rode Aerobus going to KL Sentral and their Rapid KL (counter part of MRT here in the Philippines) going to Masjid Jamek Station - the nearest station to our accommodation. We didn't have data so we weren't able to locate our hostel easily. It took us a lot of walking. People pointed us to places everywhere. They can barely understand us and we can barely understand them as well. Fortunately, Rajid (a staff from China Hostel) helped us to contact our hostel and booked a grab for us. (THANK YOU RAJID!) Finally by 2am, we were able to get some sleep.

I experienced the same in my HongKong trip. So I suggest to book an accommodation nearest to a landmark. Also, ask the right person so you don't need to get lost even worse.

We booked a night stay at Grand Mountbatten Boutique Hotel through Traveloka as well for P1750 for 5 pax 350 each - very cheap.

Day 1 is like Day 0. We weren't able to go anywhere but our hotel.

DAY 2

We woke up by 6am and started our journey by 7am. Our first stop is Batu Caves. We got lost because apparently KTM Kumuter is not working, and we do not know how to get there via other transportation. So we asked, and rode a free bus up to KTM Sentul Station, from here we waited for more than an hour before it departs to Batu Caves. This is the heartbreaking part. We weren't able to take into consideration the waiting time of the departures because we have a different itinerary. Some things really don't go according to the plan.

We enjoyed Batu Caves, especially for me and my Tatay. I just love natural things. I prefer going to these tourist destinations (just like Ngong Ping Village in HK) than in the city. The monkeys and doves are everywhere! You can even get a shot like you're in Rome with those doves. And my Tatay experienced getting his polvoron rubbed by the monkey. It's so funny. The Big Buddha is really enormous. It's amazing.

Inside the Batu Cave

You need to climb 272 steep steps before reaching the cave. But the fear, hunger, and effort are totally worth it. It's a huge cave. They have a small temple inside it. Again, the monkeys are everywhere.

Just a reminder: do not wear shorts or skirts above the knee. You will be asked to pay 5 MYR for the cloth which they will wrap around your waist.

We went back to the KTM Komuter by 11am. This is where everything messed up. We weren't able to eat breakfast and lunch because of the hectic schedule. We weren't able to go to Petronas Twin Towers (yeah I know 💔💔💔) And the worst part is, we missed our flight going to Vietnam. Yes we idiots did.

We got no choice but we are still blessed. Flight from KL to Siem Reap, Cambodia is cheap. So we decided not to go the Vietnam and just go straight to Cambodia. And we booked our accommodation in Cambodia through Agoda for PHP 2265.59 each.

We spent the whole day at KL Airport and waited for our 7am flight to Cambodia. We are so broken that we didn't even talk about going back to KL Sentral for Petronas Twin Towers and we are too afraid to miss the flight again.

DAY 3

We arrived at Siem Reap, Cambodia by 9AM. Took a tuktuk ride from the airport to Kok Meng Lodge. The Inn doesn't allow us to check in yet because it's too early. So we had no choice but to go to Pub Street without taking a bath. We just walked straight from Kok Meng Lodge to Pub Street, it is just 5 to 10 mins walk away. It is a very hot late morning. We are all sweaty and sleepy.

We ordered a sharing food for lunch. Johnrey bought a booked from a disabled vendor. We talk about our frustrations in this trip.

We went back to the inn ( Kok Meng Lodge ), took a bath, got some sleep, and went out to take a look of Siem Reap. We intentionally didn't go to Ankor Wat because it will be unfair to Baka-chan's friend who was left in Vietnam.

Upon walking, we bumped into a tuktuk driver and asked him where we can go. 

But before anything else, James, our tuktuk driver took us in a street restaurant to eat meryenda.

Yes, these heavy meals were our meryenda. And yes, we were that hungry. XD

He took us to the War Museum, Tatay and Johnrey obviously enjoyed it in different reasons. Tatay is into guns and other war equipment, there were tanks! And Johnrey is really interested in history. War Museum has a lot to tell.

After the War Museum, James Peter, our tuktuk driver, took us to one of Angkor Wat temples for free! This is because you can enter Angkor Wat Complex after 5pm for free.

We just went to Pre Rub, amazed by the work of men, the sunset and took beautiful photos.

Early discovery of talent

The complex is so peaceful. There are a lot of trees, and a lake. I love the environment.

When it got dark, we decided to go back to Pub Street and end the trip with this Pacquiao-fan tuktuk driver. James is really accommodating and pleasant. He only asked us 12 Dollars for the whole trip. Thanks James! I hope to see you again!

We booked a bus trip from Siem Reap to Bangkok Thailand via HANG TEP TRAVEL CO., LTD. for 20 Dollars. Just to make sure that we will get to Thailand.

We finally experienced the Pub Street life. And took a mandatory shot in Pub Street sign, ate dinner, look for some souvenirs, and tried fish massage. That was a great night. And that's the best night in our trip. Cambodia is the best that happened to us.

DAY 4

We were supposed to go to Angkor Wat but the group realized that it is a waste of money going to Angkor Wat for just one hour because we booked an early trip going to Bangkok. Yeah, this is another heartbreaking story. We came here to see the Angkot Wat, yet we failed again.

By early 7AM we took the bus going to Thailand. Reached the border by 12pm and the next 4 hours was hell. We lined up in the immigration for 4 hours! We were on an open space covered with a high roofing, the line was very long. It was a very hot afternoon. And we didn’t have anything in our stomach but water. It was a very painful experience. This was the point that I realized that I need to tell you these guys. INDOCHINA TRIP IS VERY EXHAUSTING. YOU'LL EXPERIENCE HUNGER, TIREDNESS, AND DIZZINESS.

And this was us, in front of the line after hours. They just called from the line and prioritized us, maybe our bus guides did the work. Thanks no thanks. They’re too late.

We departed from the Cambodia-Thailand border by 4pm and reached Bangkok by 9pm. So Day 4 was spent in the immigration and on the road. We headed straight to Khao San Road and exchanged our dollars to baht. Finally, we were able to eat our first meal of the day. We had just some peanuts while on the bus. So yes, dinner was our first proper meal of the day. I thought I was gonna die out of hunger, imagine how my 62 year old father suffered. I'm sorry.

We tried the famous Pad Thai with Shrimp and egg. It tastes good actually. Go ahead and try it.

Nope he didn’t eat it.

We stayed in an airbnb very far away from public transportation so we got no choice but to ride the taxi all throughout our Bangkok stay. So don't make the same mistake. Book an accommodation near public transport or your desired destination even if you pay more because it is just the same booking a cheaper accommodation then spending in grab and/or taxis plus the hassles.

DAY 5

This was our last chance to make the most of our Indochina trip. We woke up early and started the day going to Damnoen Floating Market. We took the grab going to Southern Bus Station and ride the bus going to Damnoen Floating Market for THB**. It was a 2-hour ride. Make sure to enjoy the view going to the South of Bangkok. Upon reaching the pier, there were offers going to the actual floating market for THB 1,000 for the 6 of us. Grab it. I know that some blogs would say not to fall for it. But based on a recent experience, for that amount you get a free 1-kilometer ride. This is the distance from the pier to the actual floating market. But we declined this offer.

Then, a van offered to bring us in the second pier. There, they offered us THB 300. We still didn’t agree with the price because based from the blogs we read the 300 THB is supposed to be for all of us already. So what we did is to walk from the bus stop to the floating market. It was a long and hot walk.

And upon reaching the actual floating market, the fee is 200 THB. The floating market is a little bit crowded. There are many boats. It is really a floating market. Vendors are selling products in the boat, although some are on the riverbanks.

We bought Chinese soup for breakfast for 60 THB, and mango shake for 65 THB. The Chinese soup is okay, and the mango shake is satisfying. The vendor of the shake is also very beautiful, she’s like a Korean.

Going around the river, we also saw some local houses. We also saw lizard-like creature – I don’t know what it is called. It was swimming in the water. It’s kind of scary but just fine because it didn’t swim towards our boat. The sailor of our boat asked for a tip. So you better budget also for these miscellaneous expenses.

Going back to the bus station, we rode a yellow jeep for THB 10. We took a grab going to the City to go to the temples. This is where the second most heartbreaking part of our trip comes in (first is our missed Vietnam flight).

I said that DAY 5 should make up this failed trip. We started the day right but ended up scammed. Upon reaching the city to visit the temples, we looked for the pier where we were supposed to ride the boat going to the temple.

Then there’s this some guy who offered us help maybe because we were obviously lost – we can’t find the pier. He instructed us to ride the tuktuk going to the pier, so we did. 

Remember this man’s face! He is a scammer! ALL THE HATE ON HIM!

The tuktuk brought us to a pier. A lady in the pier was charging us, if I remember it correctly, 1600 THB each for the boat ride, then we bargained it down to 600 THB which was supposed to be, if you go to the right pier, 15 THB only. So you see, we were scammed, they didn’t even give us a ticket. 

At first we kinda like it.

But then, we just went around a shallow and unpleasant canal.

And after the 1 hour (which was really less than 1 hour) CANAL boat tour, all the temples were already closed. YES they were all closed, so we didn’t got the chance to enter at least one temple. :(

We just went around and took some photos with other temples.

This day gets from worse to worst, even the Chatuchak Market was already closed when we get there so we also didn’t have the chance to do “Bangkok Shopping”.

We just went back to Khao San Road and had some decent dinner.

The next day, (DAY 6) 

We went to the airport and traveled back to the Philippines. And our pasalubongs? We bought it from the airport because that’s the only choice we had.

THAT’S IT. Our Indochina trip just went like that. Spending five days on the road and having an unworthy experience. If I could only correct everything. I guess we just need to charge this to experience. At least we got 9 passport stamps. (Yey!)

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to my travel buddies – Tatay, Reinee, John Rey, Baka-Chan, Babes ni Baka-Chan – sorry guys, I know that this is not what we wanted. I hope to travel with you again next time, and by that time, we will finally enjoy our trip.

Indochina Trip is not always like this. It’s always different for all of us. It’s just that we got to experience the opposite of anything that you can call good. I suggest you allot longer days for this trip, then for sure, you will have a blast.

Sherwin can’t believe that he gets to stare at Jonathan without having to be ashamed now. And he can’t believe Jonathan, sometimes, catches him when he turns around in class, and his whole face lights up when he smiles at Sherwin and it’s beautiful.

Sherwin blushes and smiles back and then Jonathan blushes too and Tildy just sits next to Sherwin and giggles.

As nice as it is to know Jonathan likes him back, and as nice as it is when Jonathan hugs him in the morning before school and that they sometimes hold hands when noone sees, it’s still not easy.

Sherwin’s mom and dad are shocked at first when he tells them, crying, that his heart has chosen someone, and then they’re even more shocked when he tells them it’s a boy. 

His dad doesn’t say anything at first, and his mom says “Oh.”, and Sherwin can’t help but cry even harder. They don’t fight, because Sherwin doesn’t fight with his parents on principle, he just retreats into his bedroom and cries into his pillow and texts Jonathan who’s cute and asks if he can do anything, but he can’t really. 

An hour later, there’s a knock on his door, and it’s Mom. She comes in and sits on Sherwin’s bed with him and holds out a bowl of chocolate ice cream. “...I’m sorry, sweetie.”, she says, and Sherwin doesn’t look at her because he’s crying again, “Dad and I just... we didn’t expect that. Or maybe we just... didn’t pay enough attention.” She reaches out and pets his auburn curls. Her hair is the same color. 

“I was really scared to tell you.”, Sherwin whispers and wipes his nose with his sleeve. 

His mom sighs. “How long have you known?”

“A while.” Sherwin shrugs. “I thought if I just tried hard enough that feeling would go away...”

“Oh, Sher.” His mom puts the bowl down on his night stand and pulls him into her arms, hugging him tightly. “I’m so sorry you were so afraid. We love you, very much, no matter what. And if your heart has chosen this... boy for you, then he must be right for you. You have a good heart. It wouldn’t just pick anyone.” 

Sherwin wraps his arms around her, and it feels like, maybe, just maybe, everything’s gonna be okay.

His dad needs a little longer to come around, and he’s a little weird around Sherwin for a while, but then, one morning, he offers to drop Sherwin off at school on his way to work. 

They sit in the car, and the radio plays some top 10 pop song Sherwin actually kind of likes, when his dad says: “So, are you gonna bring this boy around some time?”

Sherwin almost chokes. “Uh...yeah... I guess...?”

His dad grunts in response. “....s’he have a name?”

“Y-yeah.” Sherwin swallows, “....Jonathan.”

“Ah.”, his dad grunts again. 

They proceed to the school in silence, but Sherwin can’t help but smile when he waves at his dad as he drives away after dropping him off.

The same evening, Frederick comes barging into Sherwin’s room. Sherwin is reading and texting Jonathan, but Fred just throws himself into Sherwin’s bed and grabs his book and phone, dropping them on the carpet. 

“So.” He grins at Sherwin, and Sherwin knows he’s gonna say something stupid or mean right now. 

“I can’t believe I’m the one you tell last!”

Sherwin furrows his eyebrows. “...what?” 

Fred huffs and smirks. “...that you’re in luuuuurve!” He draws out the word in a stupidly cheesy way, and Sherwin rolls his eyes while feeling his cheeks flush pink. 

“I had to hear it from my friend, whose little brother is in your year! And then mom tells me she and dad have known it for weeks now?! What the hell, brother?” Fred punches Sherwin’s arm, but not hard enough to really hurt. 

Sherwin tries to push him off, but Fred is bigger than he is and four years older. He’s also an idiot. “Because I knew you’d be mean about it!”

“When have I ever been mean about anything?!” Fred clutches his chest dramatically. Sherwin just looks at him with his eyebrows raised.

“...alright, alright. But I need to know who that guy is! I have to give him the classic ‘if you hurt my brother, I’ll kill you’-speech.” 

Sherwin blinks. This is oddly sweet. He had expected Fred to be stupid about it, tease him and be mean... but this? It’s actually really nice in Fred’s own, weird way. 

“...don’t do that please. I’ll only tell you who he is if you promise me you won’t do that!” Sherwin grabs his phone from the floor where Fred has tossed it before, and crosses his arms. 

“Psh.” Fred reaches for the phone. “I’m not making any promises. How did you even meet?” Sherwin glares at him until Fred sighs and slumps. “...alright, alright. I’m not gonna tease you, and I’m not gonna try and scare him. Only if he doesn’t treat you right. Now spill the beans.”

Sherwin glares at him some more, but eventually relaxes. “So, he transferred to our school some months ago...”

Jonathan’s parents don’t live together anymore, Sherwin knows by now. When Jonathan tells them (seperately), his mom reacts wonderfully, but his father tells him that he’s going to hell. 

It’s awful to see Jonathan cry, and Sherwin can’t help but feel guilty. Their hearts hold on to each other, nestled into Sherwin’s lap while he and Jonathan sit in Jonathan’s mom’s living room and Jonathan sniffles into his shoulder. 

“Dad and I don’t even get along, but... still.” Jonathan wipes his cheeks dry with his palm, and looks at Sherwin with his ocean colored eyes. “I wish he’d just... try to understand.”

“I’m sorry.”, Sherwin whispers and reaches out to wipe a teardrop from Jonatha’s chin. “Can I do anything?”

Jonathan shrugs. “...no... you being here and being you is already helping.”

“Okay.”, Sherwin replies, and lets Jonathan lean against him again.

At school, the response to their relationship varies.

Thanks to Sherwin’s traiterous heart, everyone knows about them, so there’s really no such things as a big coming out. 

Some people react poorly, and at first, the slurs yelled after them in the hallways hurt Sherwin. When he eventually tells him mom about it, she gets really angry and makes some very, very stern phone calls the next morning. 

It gets a little better after that, and it helps that Sherwin’s friends are all very supportive. Tildy is still ready to fight anyone who so much as looks at Sherwin (and Jonathan) wrong, and his other friends are all varying degrees of cool with it. 

One day, at lunch, a girl comes up to Sherwin. She’s in the grade below him, and he isn’t sure if her name is Angela or Angelica or something completely different. 

“...I just... I just wanted to say it’s nice knowing I’m not the only one at school.”, she tells him quietly, and he needs a moment to understand what she means by that, but then it clicks, and he smiles at her. She smiles back shyly. 

Sherwin keeps thinking about that short conversation the whole day, and it makes him smile.

They’re becoming friends at first, him and Jonathan. Even if their hearts have chosen each other, they’re still very young, and they barely know each other.

Sherwin’s mom thinks she needs to give him “the talk”, but when Sherwin (blushing crimson) tells her that he and Jonathan only hold hands and hug (and there won’t be anything else going on for a long time either), she looks very relieved. 

They watch lots of movies, and sometimes they just hang out together. Jonathan reads so many books every week, and sometimes, he reads out loud to Sherwin. Sherwin loves his voice, it’s soft and really nice, and sometimes he falls asleep when Jonathan reads to him. 

Sherwin learns that Jonathan has a dog named Kylie who likes stealing Jonathan’s lunch from the counter.

He learns that Jonathan’s favourite superhero is Wonder Woman. 

He learns that Jonathan loves oreos and hates snickerdoodles. 

He learns that Jonathan hates it when anything messes up his hair, but loves to run his fingers through Sherwin’s curls. 

He also learns that Jonathan gives the best hugs in the whole wide world.

They become inseperable. 

Sherwin’s parents love Jonathan. “Such a polite boy!”, his mom always cooes, and Sherwin’s chest fills with pride whenever she mentions it. Sherwin’s dad calls Jonathan “Jon.” and drives them to the movies or the lake.

His aunt gifts him a rainbow flag, and Jonathan helps him hang it up in his room. (They’re allowed alone in there, but only when Sherwin’s parents are home. It’s awfully embarrassing.)

“Tadaa!” Sherwin steps back and looks at their master piece. It’s a little crooked, and one corner flaps forward, but Sherwin is still very proud. 

Jonathan laughs. “We should have used pins instead of tape.”

Sherwin shrugs. “Eh. ...if it doesn’t hold, you’ll just have to come over again.” He turns to Jonathan and smiles. “...thank you, for helping me hang it up.” 

Jonathan smiles back and reaches for his hand. “...no problem.” 

Sherwin steps closer to him, and Jonathan reaches out and pulls him into one of those lovely, perfect hugs which Sherwin always melts into. 

“You know it’s actually called a pride flag?”, Jonathan says after a moment of quiet.

“Really?”, Sherwin asks, voice muffled by Jonathan’s sweater.

“Uh-huh.” Jonathan is quiet for a moment. “...I’m really proud to have you.”

Sherwin’s heart squeals happily and Sherwin hides his blushing face and huge smile in Jonathan’s shoulder.

High school is a little scary at first, but most of their friends are in the same class as them, and Sherwin gets to sit next to Jonathan in most classes. 

Jonathan has grown a lot, and Sherwin can’t believe he’s several inches taller than him by now. He kind of hopes that he’ll grow some more, too, but he also hopes that he doesn’t grow too much, because it’s really nice to snuggle his face into Jonathan’s chest. 

Homecoming approaches, and Sherwin is weirdly excited for it. As they watch older students hang up garlands and posters announcing it, Sherwin looks to Jonathan, who, nose buried in yet another book (”Simon vs. the Homo Sapien Agenda”, reads the cover), is slowly eating his salad. 

“Do you wanna go with me?”, Sherwin blurts out, and then blushes furiously. 

Jonathan looks up, a little startled. “...go where?”

Sherwin motions to the posters, “...homecoming.”

Jonathan follows his gesturing hand, and then blushes, too. He gives Sherwin a smile and nods. “Yeah, of course.”

“Cool.” Sherwin can’t help the huge grin that threatens to split his face in half.

After it’s over, they walk home together. They don’t live far apart, and Sherwin’s mom has promised to fetch him from Jonathan’s house. He hasn’t called her yet.

Sherwin’s wearing one of Fred’s old suits and a green button up and a matching tie. His mom couldn’t stop cooing over how handsome he looked before he left the house. 

Jonathan is wearing a suit, too, and Sherwin can’t stop looking at him. He looks kind of grown up, and really handsome. Sherwin is very proud that Jonathan is his... his boyfriend. 

“So... here we are...” Jonathan smiles sheepishly when they’re in front of his house. 

Sherwin smiles back equally as bashfully, and takes out his phone. “I’ll... I’ll text my mom.” He does, and she replies immediately. It takes her maybe five minutes until she’ll be here. 

“...that was really nice.” Jonathan smiles and rubs the back of his neck.

“Yeah, it really way.” They’re so close, best friends, or even more than that, but right now, the air feels all charged as if there are sparks flying. Sherwin’s heart is unusually quiet right now, but he can feel its excitement. 

Jonathan steps closer and reaches out, taking Sherwin’s hands in his. They’re suddenly really close together, and Sherwin’s real heart, the one in his chest, starts to race as he looks up at Jonathan. 

“Do you... do you want to kiss?”, Jonathan asks very quietly, and Sherwin’s gonna explode any second now. 

“Y-yeah.”, he replies equally as softly. 

“Okay.”, Jonathan whispers. For a moment, neither Jonathan nor Sherwin move.

“I...I think you need to stand on your tip toes.”, Jonathan sheepishly smiles. 

“Oh! Yeah. Yes. Okay.” Sherwin rocks forward onto the his tip toes so Jonathan’s face and his face are on the same level. Jonathan holds his hands firmly enough so he doesn’t lose balance. 

Before Sherwin can lose his nerves, he does probably the most courageous thing he’s ever done: he leans forward a little more and pecks at Jonathan’s lips. 

It’s quick, and quickly over, but it’s their first kiss. 

When Sherwin climbs into his mom’s car minutes later, he’s still blushing, and smiling from ear to ear. 

His mom just gives him a knowing look, but doesn’t comment. 

When Sherwin lies in bed later that night, and grins up to the ceiling, he thinks that maybe he’s a little glad that his heart is such a little traitor.

1. What is your best friend’s dream job, and why? Man, idk that you’ve ever blabbed about something specific, like I know you’d love to run a café with me, or a library with your mom, or any kind if small store like that... Obviously I know you were ready to invest a lot of time and effort into teaching too... Any job that would give you enough time and self management to allow you to spend time with your dogs really ahaha

2. What is their biggest pet peeve, and why do you think that is? The main one is people being 1)  messy and 2) loud. A few weeks ago I would have just said “well you’re considerate and wish they could be too”, but I said I’d be brutally honest about this and girl... I read something a little while ago and I am genuinely worried your hyperawareness of everyone around you stems from something more specific, but we can talk about it whenever

3. What is their favourite TV series (live action)? LMAO GO AWAY I GET THE MESSAGE I will watch Arrested Development asap

4. What is their favourite TV series (animated)? Ahaha you’ve recommended a lot of quality comedies to me over the years, do you have an ultimate fave though? I know there was that group of school girls comedy gdi I watched it but forget the name >< welp

5. What does your best friend value most in life, and why? (Do you think they value most what they say they do, or something else?) Holy shit ok this goes right back to a thing the guys were talking about earlier. I’m gonna say your dogs, like you do say you do :p If we’re talking values in people/ ways of life... What the guys brought up was that you say you only want a simple life with just what we need, but... well, I guess we all know none of us have ANY idea what a minimal life is like, so I’d say what you mean by that is, you do value the life standard we currently have, where we never have to worry about a solid roof over our heads, food, and enough money left to support your pets. So yeah, my answer is 1) your dogs, and 2) the kinda life where we can support them x)

6. How would you describe their style, and how would they describe it? Colorful (but that’s how us French see all Scandinavians tbh), comfortable, like effortless but still cute? You’d probably agree it’s colorful but then say it’s not “stylish” though XD I think you just really like cute things but muuuuch prefer comfort first

7. If you were to decorate a room for your best friend, what would it look like, and why? !!!!! Aaahhh I’m a shit decorator with no taste, but I’d keep it minimal cause that’s how you feel best! A massive bed for you and your dogs, maybe nice tall lights you can reach from the bed but light the room well... A bookshelf... A pretty big desk... I’d want to add lots of plants and pillows, but idk if you’d want that clutter :/ Colors would be white beige and either pastel green or pastel pink.

8. What do you think their best quality is? You know how during a mario kart race you can see the names shuffle on the side as players cut in front or fall behind, that’s what your qualities are doing in my head now... You’re patient, so strong and independent (which I admire endlessly), generous, smart, but I guess what really sets you apart from me is your specific sense of humor and just wit in general??? idk how to explain, it’s not just that you make me laugh, it’s everything you say, I know only you would come up with that at that moment. The truth is sometimes I doooo worry, but I’m so convinced you know what you’re doing so much better than I do, that no, I tend to trust whatever you say, if you’re convinced (/telling me you’re convinced) that what you’re doing isn’t harming you, I’ll believe you. At least, that’s what I tell myself... The Master constantly veers between almost killing the Doctor and then kinda deciding not to because they’re having so much fun or caring about their complex relationship a bit too stupidly much. lotta storytelling packed into this ep, bit unwieldy.

I do think the Master is THE character for Moffat because all of the plot bullshit can be explained as: the Master is just that dramatic. like, why wait with Bill’s conversion until the pain part was developed and the Doctor would be coming down? could have converted her right there. and he only kept her around to rub it in the Doctor’s face. like all of that - somehow explained by what a particular person they are.

redirection, the cryptic, it’s one of the Doctor’s main tools for hope. the beyond, the in-between, that which we cannot yet know, may never know - that’s flux babey, that’s hope.
