Bot spam, adverts, communities, and you.

Hi everyone! I'm Bee, and today I'm writing this post to let others know of some ways to help combat Tumblr's current bot issue happening inside communities.

First, here's an index of this post:

To begin, here is the first step should absolutely take towards keeping your community free of bots.

1 - Deny them access.

If you own a community on tumblr?

Set it to request/invite to join.

It's that easy! How do I do this you ask?

Navigate to community settings > down to Joining, and set it to:

This means that anyone can request to join, but it's up to the admin's and the mods to accept those invites. If a blank blog* requests to join, you can easily deny those and just accept those that seem like real people. (&I'll explain what a blank blog is in a bit.)

If your community is small (say less than 500 people with less than 5 invites a week), this shouldn't be too bothersome if you remember to check it once or twice a week or so. :)

And if you're a member of a community that has an active admin:

Ask the admin to set it to request to join!

While this may not be the most ideal way of handling this issue, it never hurts to ask, right? You could always make a poll and see if others vote/feel the same way and maybe they'll change it, too. But, remember, it's up to the admin's discretion on if they want to actually do this. If they don't, then sadly you might have to either deal with it or make your own community if the admin/mods neglect to do their jobs. :(

Note: Staff are working on developing ways to help community admins better moderate their communities. This isn't just a 'we'll have to suffer through it' issue. It's just going to take time, is all.

Until we're given the tools to stop them, this is the only way that we (real people) are going to keep bots and blank blogs* out of our communities until tumblr staff comes up with a concrete way to keep them out.

2 - How to spot a (possible) bot and a bot invasion.

Most bots now'a'days are what I like to call 'blank blogs'.

These type of blank accounts are also widely used by scammers. So if you're an artist and you get a DM from someone asking for a commission of their pet/son, yes, you are about to get scammed!

While there have been a few mistaken users who have been caught up and mistaken as as a bot, once I removed them from my community they DM'd me back after I'd requested them to do so, and I explained to them how to change their profile banner, add a description, ect, and told them how reblogging worked on tumblr (as they honestly didn't know how the site worked), and we were all good after that!

My rule of thumb: Humans should do human things on the human website. If you don't, you aren't human.

Blank blogs (presumed to be bots,) are blogs that look like this:

Note the following with these 'blank' blogs:

No change in their background image. No change in their icon. (Just the default.) Generic randomly generated name or 'keysmash' name.* No posts or reblogs. They had 0 liked posts. Yet they were following dozens of people.

*These names can also be 3 English words slapped together to make a username. This is also a common tactic used by scammers (as I'd mentioned prior as well) as mentioned previously.

If you get a DM/ask from a blog like this (or ANY blog) and:

They ask for a commission of their son/daughter and/or their pet. They say 'hey pretty' and try to hit on you. (romance scam.) They try to offer you money to buy your art as a NFT (also a scam.) They try to sell you crypto or get you to invest. (obvious scam.) They try to sell you a product or service. (phishing scam) They try to get you to go off tumblr to a different website to 'talk'. They say they're a sugar daddy/mommy looking for a 'sugar baby'. They offer you some sort of free money. (nothing's free. it's a scam.) They offer you a job position or say <company> is hiring. They try to sell you HRT. (yes.. that's 100% a thing they're doing.)

It is all 100% an attempt to scam you.

Bots will sometimes join communities just for the sake of having people to target. Communities are full of people, so communities with more people are more likely to be targeted and joined by bots.

That's also why bigger Communities get more bot ad/p0rn ad spam.

Here is what a bot invasion looks like:

All blank blogs (I checked!) with no sign of human life.

All with random jibberish names, all joining on the same day.

3 - What a bot community looks like. ....So you can report it!

I'm mentioning this part because I know there will be people who get curious and browse tumblr to find 'new things' and 'new interests'. And I'm here to point out what are the biggest and most obvious signs of bot made communities and/or communities made to scam.

Note: Do not join these communities, and do not, under any circumstance, click any of the links that are featured by these communities. They could very well take you to a phishing website or even something that gives you a virus. If you want to report them, just view the community, click the . . . at the top right corner and report it for spam unless it's doing something illegal. then report it as such.

Again. Don't let curiosity kill your phone/PC/Tablet. It's not worth it.

The search.

So again, say you're new, and you like money. So you search 'money' in the tumblr search and then view communities.

As of right now, you'll see communities like this:

I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to point out the obvious as to which one of these was made by a bot/scammer.

So let's turn out focus to good ol 'Juwa 777 Download APK '

(Again. Do not actually go and download this.)

Things to note:

It only has one member. The admin. And viewing the admin? It is a blank blog.

The only post on this community... is an advertisement.

Thus it is pretty safe to say, a bot / scammer made this community.

Here is a second example further down the list:

Again, things to note:

One member (admin), blank blog, one post that's an advertisement.

Now here is one that's more 'tricky' as it has more members.

But the content itself is an obvious scam.

I won't show the members as a few are porn bots, but they follow the same theme of nonsensical names or 3 english words slapped together. They may reblog posts (usually porn...) or post things (again.. porn), but they're still bots.

If you see communities like these, make sure you report them. Just note if you report too many too fast (usually after 3) you'll get a 'oops try again later' bug for some reason and you'll have to wait to report more.

So in conclusion: If you don't want bots, just don't let them in.

If you can't handle accepting invites, make someone a mod (who you trust) and let them help you accept new member invites. Divide the load and we can keep out the bots and keep our communities safe and clean until something is done about them.

FAQ - LBSC Secret Admirer Exchange

Here are some of the things that come up every year, answered up front for your convenience!

What are the minimum requirements?

Art must be at least flat colors. Fics must be at least 1500 words. These are MINIMUM requirements and you are welcome to do more! We encourage everyone from all sides of the fandom to join us, but the pairing of Luka and Marinette MUST be the focus! Background pairings are allowed, as well as mentions of past LS.

Do I have to post to AO3?

No! AO3 is convenient for us because it allows us to reveal the majority of the works all at once, but you may post to any platform, or all the platforms, you prefer. Please just make sure you send a link to the mods so we can make sure your giftee receives it and so we can include it in our final wrap up list. Anything posted to tumblr will be reblogged to this blog, and we will do a post listing all of the submitted works at the end of the exchange.

How do I know I'll get what I want?

Well, there's obviously no guarantees, but we've done everything we can to make sure you get something you like, and every year our discord discussions are full of people worrying about whether their giftee will like their gift, so we know our participants are committed. Some people get really detailed with their prompt, and some are very general. When you sign up, you'll provide several prompts for inspiration, and you'll be able to note what you DON'T want to see, what salt level you're comfortable with, and what level of explicitness you are willing to read (none, fade to black, full NSFW, etc). You'll also be able to note whether you would prefer art or writing as your gift, and whether you would prefer to do writing or art for the gift you are giving.

Do I have to use all the prompts? Can I combine prompts?

You may use as many prompts as you want in one or more works, but you are only required to use one. Many people find it fun to combine and you can even do more than one work if you are especially inspired. We never complain about extra.

Can I do more than the minimum?

Of course you can do more if you're inspired! We're delighted when the event spawns multichap stories - but see the caveat below.

Does the complete work have to be posted on the deadline day?

We only require a first chapter meeting the minimum requirements to be posted by the deadline. However, please keep in mind that life happens, and try to address the prompts in your first chapter, so that if you are unable to finish or need a lot more time, your giftee still gets something that they can be happy with.

Can I do platonic Lukanette?

You may request platonic Lukanette in your prompts, but you must be prepared to write or draw romantic Lukanette to meet the request of your giftee.

What if I have a question about my prompts?

You'll also be given contact info for a mod who can act as a go-between to pass along any questions you have. We also have a Q&A channel in the discord and we encourage people to ask questions there and get answers from a lot of people - hopefully including your giftee! It's a great way to get a sense of your person's likes and dislikes, and it makes for a lot of fun discussion.

And the biggest question...

What if I sign up and then can't deliver? What if I can't make the deadline?

Hey, stuff happens! We'll have pinch hitters available to take over if you have to drop out so no one gets left in the lurch. We only ask that you keep in touch. If at all possible, let us know by February 5 if you need to drop out. If you think you'll be late, let us know. Dropping out will not stop you from being able to participate in future events. However, if you don't communicate with us you may be asked not to participate in the future. We send out check-in emails, we will follow up with you on whatever date you told us you thought you would finish, and we just need you to write back and let us know whatever the status is. We know it can be embarrassing to have to admit you're having trouble, but we truly understand. We're not going to shame you. When people don't let us know what's going on, it puts us in a difficult position trying to figure out whether we need to activate a pinch hitter, and leaves the poor giftee hanging for that much longer. There's no shame in admitting you can't finish - we completely understand that things happen! We just need to be able to plan around it.

i have a request, and it's kinda inspired by the personality of my own farmer!OC: so, i was wondering if you could make headcanons about the bachelor(ette)s reaction with a farmer that is very emotional and cries way too easily at pretty much everything and anything — and how they would try to cheer them up? it can be in a romantic relationship, platonic, or first impressions!! any is fine :)

Shane:

Shane thinks Farmer is crazy, or an idiot, or both. Every time, he snaps at them and gets angry with them. Every time, after another rude remark, rivers of tears pour from Farmer's eyes and they run away. Every time, after all of this, they go back to Shane and try to talk, to become friends. And every time, Shane finds it harder and harder to chase them away. He just sighs tiredly and resigns himself to having a new friend. A vulnerable, whiny, but a friend. Shane thinks they're weird. Heh, just like himself... But a pretty good company, by the way.

Sebastian:

Sebastian kissed Farmer slowly, gently. Time seemed to have stopped altogether since they had come here, to the top of the mountain, where Zuzu City, shining with lights and billboards, was visible on the horizon. Where they were alone, where Sebastian had been brave enough to confess his love to them. Where he, under the influence of his tender feelings, took Farmer into his arms and kissed them. And was immediately frightened when he saw Farmer with tears streaming down their face. But when they told himself they were tears of happiness, Sebastian was ready to cry himself on the spot.

Alex:

Alex isn't the most tactful person himself, but even he doesn't wish harm on anyone, even if his actions aren't going to be very good. That's what happened on the beach with Farmer when Alex suddenly yelled at them to catch a grindball, but charged right into their faces. Mild worries quickly turned to panic as Farmer crying and sobbing. Thank Yoba, delicious ice cream and an ice pack from the kiosk where he works were able to calm Farmer down. Alex breathed a sigh of relief, he didn't know they were such a weakling.... No no no no, he didn't mean that! Don't cry, please- damn, he need more ice cream!

Harvey:

Harvey must admit: coming to him for a compulsory injection for illnesses in the face of intense fear of needles and doctors, was a very brave move on Farmer's part. Many patients, sensing anxiety and panic after any mention of hospitals, immediately ran away. But Farmer, though flooding the clinic floor with tears, kept a steady hand. Harvey would later steep Farmer in herbal tea to calm them down, not forgetting to praise them for their bravery and responsibility. He will also offer the help of a therapist he knows.

Sam:

Sam was returning from his parents back to his home on the farm, to his beloved spouse. Seeing the love of his life on the couch, Sam was already heading to the Farmer for his portions of hugs and kisses.... and found them crying, with headphones, from which muffled music was blaring. Sam, already knowing Farmer very well, only smiled when he saw their crying face, "Sad song again?" "Uh-huh," Farmer holds out one of the headphones to their husband. The young musician sat down next to them, putting his arm around their shoulder, listening to the lyrics of the song. "Very sad, you're right." What are they listening to? baby shark doo doo doo

Elliott:

The inhabitants of the Valley could not help but notice the Farmer standing near the Saloon, sobbing with a bouquet of flowers, together with Elliott, who was trying to comfort his interlocutor. The bouquet of flowers and Farmer's tears immediately suggested that everyone's favorite chaotic Farmer had a grief, that someone had died.... But it turned out that they were just very touched (even too much) by the attention of their, as it turned out later, boyfriend. After all, Elliott is so thoughtful, and these are their favorite flowers, and *sob*. Oh, goodness...

Oh, the talented artist experienced a whole spectrum of emotions over the course of the morning. First, enthusiasm as she added the finishing touches to her new sculpture. Then pride in the work she had accomplished. Later, the desire to give the sculpture as a gift. After that - the thrill of handing the sculpture to the surprised Farmer. Then came the anxiety, for instead of joy she saw tears on her friend's face. Then came surprise and relief when Farmer, still sobbing, thanked Leah for the beautiful gift. The red-haired girl stroked her friend's back for another five minutes, smiling broadly.

Penny:

Penny never thought that Farmer, her friend, would be crying so hard at the end of the movie "Brave little sapling". Although her own eyes were a little wet after the last scene of the movie, the red-haired girl didn't think that Farmer would sob so much. Luckily she had brought a few dry tissues with her (all of which she had to give to Farmer, by the way).

Haley:

"Ew, you're all dirty," was the phrase that became Haley's fatal mistake when she carelessly commented on the new Farmer's slightly stained clothes. The girl had to spend more than 20 minutes calming down a very vulnerable Farmer, trying to convince them that "stains like that are even in fashion!" (not too convincing). Haley didn't want to offend them, so as an apology, she offered her help to the Farmer in ordering great fashionable clothes, with discounts and promotions. Now they are crying tears of gratitude. Haley doesn't understand why she's having such bad luck today.

Emily:

When one day, visiting Emily, Farmer inquired what kind of parrot was in her room, the girl told the story of this poor bird, the broken wing, and how the feathered creature was now being treated here under Emily's care. The blue-haired girl's story was interrupted when she heard a loud sob from her companion, so Emily immediately ran to the kitchen to get napkins and tea for Farmer. She could truly understand Farmer: when that unfortunate bird banged into the window and broke its wing, Emily wanted to burst into tears, she felt sorry for the bird! But now the parrot is safe and they will help their feathered friend right? *Squawk*

Abigail:

Abigail jumped when she saw Farmer crying near the mountain lake. When she ran over to find out what was wrong, she could make out the words "bracelet," "drowned," and "sorry" from all the crying and whimpering. Oh yeah, Abby had recently given Farmer a handmade friendship bracelet. And Farmer, still crying crocodile tears, said they dropped the bracelet in the lake while fishing. Hey, no need to cry, it's no big deal. Abigail will make a new bracelet, even better! She'll even add an amethyst to decorate it!

Maru:

It's not every day that Maru gets the chance to enjoy stargazing with the love of her life (to be honest, the girl still can't believe her happiness). The vast night sky is studded with a thousand diamonds, blessing this quiet and beautiful night. And the Farmer, overwhelmed with emotion, began to let tears fall, saying how beautiful Maru is under the starry dome. After this, Maru did not hold back and her glasses became wet from her own tears as she kissed and hugged Farmer in a burst of passion. That night had become special for them.

Daia isn't surprised, though: after telling the Farmer about her orphan childhood, many people would have let at least a stingy tear fall. And though she turned the whole thing into another joke and tease, she was beyond laughing when Farmer hugged her tightly and began sobbing into her shoulder. Assassin only sighed and comforted Farmer, telling her that there was no bringing back the past, but now she had a close friend (or more?) in her life who had become the thread that connected her to the normal life she had dreamed of. It didn't help, and Farmer cried even harder. Oh my goodness, her whole shoulder is wet from their tears, hee hee!

Jio:

Jio is utterly confused and annoyed. Why the hell was Farmer crying over an accidentally squashed snail? Yes, it was a pity about the creature, but it was very small, the grass was tall, and it was already dusk, so you couldn't see anything. Stop crying! What, a funeral for a snail? Are you out of your mind? Kiwi, why are you sad? ...You two cannot be serious.... Okay, fine! Let's have a funeral for the snail. Elf doesn't understand how someone like Farmer can deal with the dangerous monsters of Ridge Falls, but whine and sobbing like a child over some snail.... Kiwi, don't even dare cry too, you're literally an assassin!

it's only been a few days since you were captured... but it felt like years— decades— centuries— heck, eternities. there wasn't even a damn clock for you to stare at, keep yourself entertained with it. would he be mad for you paying too much attention to an inanimate object? yeah probably, honestly.

was escaping even an option? the thought of it wasn't even a possibility or plan, just a tease and a reminder that you can't even look out a window without your captor getting mad or upset... though he never ever expressed it, you only knew by the atmosphere dropping and his ruby eyes on you.

currently he was away... outside... doing god knows what. this would be the perfect chance to escape for any other yandere, but the windows, doors and yourself are uuh, chained up. however even if you weren't chained up on a bed, izuru would probably find you eventually, no matter where you run to. if you're in the same universe, you're his.

all you could really do was sit and wait for izuru to return. the least he could do was give you some sort of entertainment, jeez. selfish bastard. despite the windows being closed and locked tight, you felt as if the room's temperature started to drop. you curled yourself into a ball and tried not to think about anything, hoping you'd drift away from this reality for awhile... and even better, permanently.

it was only a few minutes before you concluded you couldn't fall asleep in this environment at this temperature in this situation. the only way you'd fall asleep was by taking some sleep pills or melatonin. maybe once izuru came back you could send him away again by asking him to buy some melatonin? that didn't sound bad at all.

you were awoken by a cold gust of wind as well as your hunger. you must've fallen asleep while plotting on how to get izuru to leave you alone for awhile more. you were still so deep in thought, you hadn't even noticed kamukura standing next to the bed with that same cold stare that he'd always given you when you weren't his hostage.

"what! stop staring at me- go look at the wall or something," you tried to sound intimidating, but ended up sounding like yourself, but more weak and pathetic. "s/o i can look at what's mine," he casually stated, setting down a box of takeout on the bed, "i got your favorite takeout, and since you have this sort of "performance anxiety", i'll leave you be to eat alone, i'll come back soon," and with that, he shut the door and locked it.

you mentally screamed at both yourself and at him out of rage. how dare you let him call you his? once you calmed down from your rage, you realized he actually unchained you. wow. you knew he didn't really want to tell you you were free, but you still felt extremely mad at him for not telling you.

due to your stubbornness, you refused to eat, but you also refused to push the food onto the ground... the food didn't deserve that death just because izuru bought and brought it to you. you were just looking at the food, imagining yourself watching akane eat a gourmet meal prepared by teruteru.

by now the food was probably freezing cold. it was also the time for izuru to return, back to torment you. "oh s/o, if you were claiming my predications were wrong and you weren't actually hungry, you could've told me instead of wasting a good meal," he sarcastically said, placing the box onto the bedside.

"what the fuck do you even want from me—? i don't even know you!" you spat, your anger and rage completely distracted you from your hunger and the freezing temperature biting your skin. "i only want you. i don't need or want anything you own." you cringed at that, but you didn't let that show, "

"s/o, i can do anything for you, sing you to sleep, feed you, bathe you, breed you till you can't walk or stand, give you all the affection you'll ever want and need, get you anything you want in the world, all just for you to submit to me," had his eyes gotten more passionate and brighter or was it just you slowly losing your sanity to them? you didn't know anymore. "i just want you to know as well, i’ll do whatever the fuck I want to you, got it?"

you were shocked at that last part, but chose to ignore it. big mistake. "but i don't want any of that—! i just want my freedom— move around and be with whoever i wish— not whate—" you were cut off by kamukura pulling you into a passionate kiss, shoving his tongue into your mouth even before you could react, it exploring and dominating your mouth with his saliva.

you tried to push away, meanwhile trying to imagine you were kissing your crush or someone else instead of this psychopath. he broke the kiss rather quickly, a string of saliva still connecting you two. you shook your head violently and wiped it away.

"what the fuck was that?!" you gasped out, tears starting to form your eyes from how dirty and gross you felt. while distracted with that, you abruptly stopped to the feeling of something being slipped onto your neck. a shock collar. to make things worse, that collar has his name on it.

"now don’t you dare take it off, I want everyone to know you’re mine. and i think it suits you, s/o." he turned his back to you, taking one last glance before leaving you stranded in the darkness of your brand new room, only a tad bit of moonlight managing to stream in through the metal shutters of the window.

you curled into a ball and started to cry. everything had happened so quickly, you didn't even know izuru well, you only met him through hajime. how special were you to him? you were just a regular mortal doing what they were made to do.

i know how horny you are crane so i added some uuh french kissing, thanks for making me do this 🙄/s also you chose all of the prompts that are so aggressive and izuru-like i'm impressed. i'm considering on making a part 2 of this...

PSA for Discord users There's another bot DM scam going around (at least that's all I can assume it is)

They typically follow a pattern: They send you a friend request*- sometimes they're from a mutual server, sometimes not (I've gotten one from an account that had no servers in common with me) *Note: Don't accept friend requests from random people, I have to keep my DMs open for business purposes but if you can you should disable receiving DMs from people outside of servers you're in. And even then don't accept friend requests from people that you haven't interacted with

If you message them or accept their friend request-

They will respond with the same message: Hi How are you?

If you respond with anything then-

They will advertise their "art"- They will claim to be a small artist or a professional artist and the ones that have messaged me range from doing twitch emotes and banners to vrchat models. They always finish their message with something like "Would you like to see my work?" If you say anything other than a yes or sure they stop responding entirely. I don't know exactly what would happen if you said yes because I've never done it. But my guess is they send you a link to their "art" and it would most likely be a scam or phishing website

As you can see none of them seem to follow any pfp or name pattern, but their typing patters are basically identical.

What you should do-

If you receive a friend request from someone you've never talked to, don't accept it. Typically it's not someone you'll want to talk to.

If you do receive one of these, don't accept their offer to view their "work" and if you do-

Don't click any links they send you. A good rule of thumb on the internet is not to click on any links that random people DM you. And bots tend to want one thing and one thing only! What their malicious employer wants- your info.

Block them and alert any mods or server owners from servers you share. I'm unsure yet if there's any way to report them as bots to discord so for now, blocking and getting them banned from servers is a good way to limit their reach.

And lastly

To any actual artists or creators out there!

Going into people's DMs in order to promote your work is never a good way to go about it. That is the quickest way to get someone uncomfortable and could even earn you a block or ban. Unless someone publicly asks for artists to commission and responds asking for more information- going behind closed doors (DMs) to "advertise" to strangers will only ever hurt you.

Instead promote your art publicly! On here or other social media! In discord servers that have channels for posting art or promoting your work! Do it publicly, put "Commissions Open" in your profile, any number of these things! While it may be frustrating actually getting commissions, promoting it publicly means there will be more eyes on your work at any point in time!

Remember, the internet is not a nice place, but we can do our best to look out for each other.

And saunt over there making a whopping 3k+ on chow designs cant even fix the damn thing.

Lets face it; The game will never be done dwspite the fact that saunt has literally made THOUSANDS off flat colored chowlings. Same can be said for the site. Literally every flat colored chow this person makes sells for 500+ or for well over 1.5k. Highest I have seen is the nearly 3k chow (last i looked anyway) that was most recent.

Yet the new site is busted completely (old site worked just fine), game still has no release date, saunt themselves still owes a ton of work apparently (good luck folks)

Feno has no reason to be mini-modding a species they're just a member for. Mods/admins/coowner doesnt do a damn thing about it. Idc if they're an owner of a species or not. You are not an admin, mod, or owner of chows. Stop mini-modding. Especially if what the other post said was true and you're making snide, rude comments about chow owners.

Idk blog admins. Im starting to get really salty the chow team/owner screwed up the site, marking characters who are not cbc as cbc, and more, allowing members to minimod, and just outright screwed the entire community.

Also... Aquiring myos now is just as difficult. More opportunities? Pfft. If you can get by the people who camp the site all day. Some dont have time to camp. So the same people gunna get those myos, and you'll still have people complaining there no opportunity. Those who do get em always want an arm and a leg for it too. "Gimme 3 grems, 4 statues, and a premade!" (This is an example)

Almost every suggestion fenokey has made was implemented into chowlings. I HATE the art request threads and I dislike threads in general. I also don't see a reason we had to separate myos and normal trades but that's more of a minor issue I don't care much for. Fenokey is allowed to do this because Oko became co-owner and fenokey only joined back because Oko became co-owner. Since they're friends there is a huge and very clear favouring of her from the mods. I also agree, with how much saunt is making she can't afford to fix the site? I just can't wrap my head around why they would release it 20% finished to the community when the last website was still fine for the time being before the new website could be released in beta with WAY more bug fixes and testing than they initially released it at and STILL have it at. Saunt owes art from years and years ago and refused to do half if it. A custom from her can take from either a day- to a week- to a YEAR or more. When she doesn't want to deal with you she'll ghost your dms as well then post a thread asking for people who she still owes art. She is able to make thousands but the only thing we have of the game is the same small forest map shes apparently been working on for over 3 years. I haven't seen any other mechanics added other than aesthetic additions. 🍈

- Whether it's platonic or not, the first time you ask to cuddle is bound to be a little bit awkward- considering how Kokichi isn't very used to physical affection. Not only that, it's also a bit scary for the both of you

- Although you're smaller, you have to be the bigger person, and take the leap of faith yourself with this one. Unfortunately, Kokichi isn't really the type to act when he is unsure of himself and, when it comes to cozy affections and you in particular, well... let's just say he doesn't exactly trust himself to make the right moves- if any at all

- Is he scared? Of you? Of trusting you to be in such close proximity to him? Of you trusting him when he can barely trust himself? Of bugs? Pfft- what- uh... no? Maybe? He pleads the fifth? Actually, maybe the last one...

- When you finally ask, he is less shocked, more so confused. Rather, he thinks you're confused: why would you want to cuddle with him? Where are the cameras? Were you bribed? Blackmailed? Did Maki threaten you to do this? To tempt him with simple, comforting affection, then to pull back last minute?

- ... From the genuine look on your face, he doesn't think so. He supposes he trusts you enough to cuddle with him. You smile when he agrees, though he can still see some left-over anxiety on your face from this new situation

- The first time -the first few, in fact- he sits there, completely still, frozen, not moving, some other fourth thing that basically means stops functioning completely, as you carefully wrap your arms around him. You see, he's a little overwhelmed but won't admit it. You're pretty sure you broke him, and would move away to check on him if it wasn't for the light grip he has on your arm that revealed his real response

- You attempt to reassure him that he can cuddle back, that you weren't going to bite, but he breaks from his frozen state specifically to comment on how weird of a phrase 'I won't bite' is, and that he knows you won't, he just doesn't feel like it. It hurt you a little, but you know it's new to him and that he'll do so when he's ready

- Eventually, Kokichi realises that he can't keep not reciprocating forever, so he makes an attempt at cuddling you back... which ends with just a very awkward pat from him. He's improving! You notice, but don't comment, just giving him a smug little smile that knows you're winning him over, which he then gives back to you

- After what feels like a lifetime, and with him hyping himself up mentally for this moment, Kokichi is able to finally cuddle you back! Yay! Until he can feel himself start to get a little too comfortable in your arms, and immediately moves away, shoving you a little. No! After making him apologise for shoving you, you calm yourself and request an honest explanation as to why he is so reluctant to cuddle you, and if you should just stop

- ...Where he proceeds to immediately lie and say that yes, totally, absolutely, you should stop because you're not cool enough to cuddle him and- and-

- That's when you realise how much this is effecting him. So you calm him, putting a little bit of distance between the two of you, and ask once again if he wants to cuddle with you. He hesitates, exaggerating a little so you can't see the sincerity in his thought, and with an extended wellllll, he admits he's fine with it. He was just lying about you not being cool enough! Obviously!

- Then the two of you just sit there. Silent. Waiting for something you’re uncertain will happen, something Kokichi hasn't figured out yet. Until it occurs to him. Oh!

- ...

- Oh-

- Another hesitation. The silence continues. A hand outstretches a slither of an amount, then curling back into himself. Patiently, you wait, not making the first move. Kokichi takes a small breath in: maybe he is scared. Just a little bit. He stares at his hands, then at you. Slowly, and cautiously, he engulfs you in his arms and allows himself to relax- to trust you and himself

- Kazu loves being able to hug you; having your head snuggled into his chest and your arms wrapped around his waist. It stops the thoughts, and the world stands still. He can feel his heart pounding in his chest, a small blush rises to his face and ears.

- This poor boy just loves to have you with him, and once you both get more comfortable with physical affection, he constantly needs to feel you with him. Pinkies linked together, head rested on your shoulder, a hand around your waist. Kazu loves it all.

Chifuyu Mantsuno

- He is so nervous to mess up with you, so desperately wants to be affectionate with you but will take it at whatever pace you need.

- Chifuyu would start off with holding your hand, intertwining fingers together as you walk down to the night market giving you a small squeeze to calm your nerves.

- Constantly checks on you that he isn't making you uncomfortable or pushing you too far; ''Is this okay? M' not making ya uncomfortable bubs?''

- Please reassure him!! Chifuyu's love language is touch, and before he knew about you being touched-starved, Fuyu thought that you were having second thoughts about the relationship.

- Once he figures out what's going on, this baby wants to reassure you the best he can without being sexual. Chifuyu will leave little notes in your bag, late night paragraphs with words of adoration and love for you.

- If you're more comfortable with physical affection, he will constantly whine for cuddles and attention. Loves having you snuggle into his chest with his arms wrapped around you, fingers carding through your hair.

Rindou Haitani

- Rindou isn't one to rush into physical affection in a relationship, so when he found out that you aren't used to physical attention and want to take it slow, he respected that with no problem.

- Will sometimes be pouty until you link pinkies with him. That's how he knows that you are thinking about him, and even though it isn't a grand gesture it's enough to make his heart race and bring a red hue to his ears.

- The second you show any kind of physical affection towards Rindou, this poor boy will stop functioning for a good minute. Completely frozen in place making you panic; ''Rin? Are you okay?'' He can only nod at you.

- ''Babe, is this okay?'' That's a phrase you will get used to very soon, as before he will even touch you, he'd always ask to make sure. Rindou loves you so much, and just doesn't ever want to make you uncomfortable.

- Ecstatic once you become more comfortable with physical affection, but he'll only show it through his actions, never words.

- It becomes a normal thing for Rindou to have himself wrapped around you in any way he can. Hands around your waist, resting his head on your shoulder from behind, and pressing kisses to your jawline.

You don't know this, because he never tells you, but if you are good at reading people you will realize this in the way his hands attract to the rotund parts of your body when it comes to situations where it is acceptable for him to grab you.

As you went into the kitchen, looking for a drink, you spot the grocery bags. The normal servants aren't in here to put them away. Should you? You eye them - wondering if they bought that drink you requested. Looking wouldn't hurt. Your fingers pull at the reusable bags, peeking inside. You do this to three only for your hand to be stopped by pale, slender fingers grabbing your wrists.

"Quite frankly, I do not expect you to be doing the butlers work."

You look up at him, squinting your eyes to taunt him. "I just wanted to see if you asked them to get my drink like you promised."

He rolls his eyes, looking at you briefly before marching over to the fridge and opening it. You're surprised he even knows how to work a fridge. Has he touched one himself in his life? He shows his hand to you, holding your favorite flavored beverage, to which you tilt your head in surprise.

He says, "It won't be in those bags because I got it for you myself."

You stare at him for a moment - your eyes shining with admiration before you awkwardly take it from his hand. "I'm surprised. Thank... you."

❤ The two of you always have some witty back and forth banter when it comes to things like what colors to match with at the professional gathering - what flowers to order for his family's dinner party. Being with him for so long just means you're more willing to talk back to him, knowing that he doesn't mean any genuine harm, and no amount of him rolling his eyes will mean that he stops being in love with you.

❤ You talk about your favorite places to be touched - and he listens, because truthfully, he likes touching you everywhere, so limiting it to a few places leaves him more than satisfied.

❤ He likes it when you sling your legs over him when you're cuddling into his side. This way he can hold your thighs.

❤ Although, his favorite cuddling position (once he gets comfortable enough to sleep close to you) is spooning you, his hand innocuously in between your breasts, warmed by your toasty chest.

❤ Drunk Togami's hands will accidentally land on your ass when he goes down to hug you - a miscalculation - but the consensual honking afterwards is not an accident.

❤ He was so used to 'traditional' small bodies of those accessible to him. But humanity is diverse - and his tastes are diverse - so being with you means he finally gets to delve into his love of stout flesh. He will kiss your thighs, holding your knees with his hands as he uses his lips on your skin. Him touching you is almost entirely salacious in nature - outside of simple things like cuddling, or if it's unconsensual, then he won't go there. You - you are just delightful and delicious. He is a body-worshipper, but you don't need to know that. His attraction towards you was very physical based initially, as he had the mindset that he would never fall in love with someone - but once he started talking to you, he found your story swapping addicting, and he decided that for once, he would let himself settle.

You put on jewelry in the mirror, letting out a har har to him, too busy decorating yourself to give him an actual response. He is always so excited to bring you to his presentations. You are mostly unaware of any of the topics he talks about, but having you by his side improves his confidence, so you go. Plus, half of his department consistently compliment you, so it boosts your compliments too.

Here are some of the things that come up every year, answered up front for your convenience!

What are the minimum requirements?

Art must be at least flat colors. Fics must be at least 1500 words. These are MINIMUM requirements and you are welcome to do more! We encourage everyone from all sides of the fandom to join us, but the pairing of Luka and Marinette MUST be the focus! Background pairings are allowed, as well as mentions of past LS.

Do I have to post to AO3?

No! AO3 is convenient for us because it allows us to reveal the majority of the works all at once, but you may post to any platform, or all the platforms, you prefer. Please just make sure you send a link to the mods so we can make sure your giftee receives it and so we can include it in our final wrap up list. Anything posted to tumblr will be reblogged to this blog, and we will do a post listing all of the submitted works at the end of the exchange.

How do I know I'll get what I want?

Well, there's obviously no guarantees, but we've done everything we can to make sure you get something you like, and every year our discord discussions are full of people worrying about whether their giftee will like their gift, so we know our participants are committed. Some people get really detailed with their prompt, and some are very general. When you sign up, you'll provide several prompts for inspiration, and you'll be able to note what you DON'T want to see, what salt level you're comfortable with, and what level of explicitness you are willing to read (none, fade to black, full NSFW, etc). You'll also be able to note whether you would prefer art or writing as your gift, and whether you would prefer to do writing or art for the gift you are giving.

Do I have to use all the prompts? Can I combine prompts?

You may use as many prompts as you want in one or more works, but you are only required to use one. Many people find it fun to combine and you can even do more than one work if you are especially inspired. We never complain about extra.

Can I do more than the minimum?

Of course you can do more if you're inspired! We're delighted when the event spawns multichap stories - but see the caveat below.

Does the complete work have to be posted on the deadline day?

We only require a first chapter meeting the minimum requirements to be posted by the deadline. However, please keep in mind that life happens, and try to address the prompts in your first chapter, so that if you are unable to finish or need a lot more time, your giftee still gets something that they can be happy with.

Can I do platonic Lukanette?

You may request platonic Lukanette in your prompts, but you must be prepared to write or draw romantic Lukanette to meet the request of your giftee.

What if I have a question about my prompts?

You'll also be given contact info for a mod who can act as a go-between to pass along any questions you have. We also have a Q&A channel in the discord and we encourage people to ask questions there and get answers from a lot of people - hopefully including your giftee! It's a great way to get a sense of your person's likes and dislikes, and it makes for a lot of fun discussion.

And the biggest question...

What if I sign up and then can't deliver? What if I can't make the deadline?

Hey, stuff happens! We'll have pinch hitters available to take over if you have to drop out so no one gets left in the lurch. We only ask that you keep in touch. If at all possible, let us know by February 5 if you need to drop out. If you think you'll be late, let us know. Dropping out will not stop you from being able to participate in future events. However, if you don't communicate with us you may be asked not to participate in the future. We send out check-in emails, we will follow up with you on whatever date you told us you thought you would finish, and we just need you to write back and let us know whatever the status is. We know it can be embarrassing to have to admit you're having trouble, but we truly understand. We're not going to shame you. When people don't let us know what's going on, it puts us in a difficult position trying to figure out whether we need to activate a pinch hitter, and leaves the poor giftee hanging for that much longer. There's no shame in admitting you can't finish - we completely understand that things happen! We just need to be able to plan around it.

he'll be a bit anxious if you're sick, he doesn't really know how to take care of people

he'll probably ask mikan how to help you out

she can't give him a nursing education, but she told him it should be easy to take care of you

all he had to do was bring you water, make sure you're comfortable, take your temperature

if you're contagious, he probably won't stick around, but he'll be close enough for you to call if you need him

he'll find you a teddy bear and probably tinker it so he can record his voice in it and let it stay with you

if you're not contagious, he'll get in bed

instead of laying down, he'll sit up and watch you to make sure you're not getting worse

if you try to get up and go do something, he'll immediately stop you

"babe, what's wrong? i'll get you whatever you need, it's okay."

he'll reassure you, then lay you back down with his hands

he will tuck you into a fuckin burrito with blankets and fluffy pillows all around

fuyu is probably more doting than both of these guys

it's because he actually knows how to take care of a person

he'll smile down at you in bed, and move your hair out of your face gently

he might get in bed with you a little while to cuddle if you need him

he is very soft when taking care of you, whispering nice things to make you feel better

he will beg you to try to sleep so you can recover

if you need food, he will personally make it himself

this is the only time he is willing to leave the room

the food he serves will be on a metal platter and he will bring a foldable table that you can put up over the bed, so you can still eat

he'll help you sit up, doing all the work for you, and even help you eat if you're feeling too weak

mans is very sweet, but tired

he will do his best to take care of you and would never complain

he'll bring you soup, take your temperature

he'll put his hat on you so you don't get worse by being cold!

if you have a fever, he'll offer to help you get out of your clothes (in a wholesome way yall hush) and bring you a wet cloth for your forehead

like kazuichi, he is a bit cautious, so he will stand near you but not in bed with you, and watch over you sometimes

occasionally he will pat your head or ask you how you feel

he thinks that if he gets in bed with you it'll make matters worse, if he gets sick or his body heat makes you too warm

he'll get a chair so he can sit by your bed, and read a book while you rest, maybe offer to read it aloud to you

when it's nighttime, he will sleep in the chair because he wants you to have the entire bed space

Q: What kind of things should I post in each day?

A: For Day 1 (themed Day), think: fluffy, sweet, tender things. Dates, love language, gifts, serendipity, first kisses, new love, old love... All those warm and fuzzy feelings! 💘💕💘

For Day 2 (themed Night), think: heavier, maybe even angsty content fits here. Missed connections, longing, last kisses... But also, this is where spicy content is especially welcome! 😏 Despite what Vlad believes, darkness can be a good thing 😤

Q: Do my creations have to include Valentine's Day?

A: No! The idea is mostly to inspire creation and appreciation for your favorite RC love interests. Valentine's Day is a day of love, so as long as your creations are themed around love, you're good! And as always, we welcome all types of content, length, style and so on. We even want to see your WIP if that’s all you had time for.

Q: I would like to share something NSFW, can I?

A: For this event, we especially encourage spicy content! But to make sure that only the people who would like to see it see it, we ask that you tag your content with #valentinespice. If it is especially explicit (think the 95💎 CGs, or something that you wouldn't want the old lady on the bus stop to accidentally see on your phone 💀 — in general, things that would belong in a R-rated movie), we ask you to kindly put it under the cut. And finally, please make sure we're talking consenting adults all around!

Q: How do I avoid suggestive and 18+ content?

A: You can avoid those creations by filtering/blacklisting the tag #valentinespice. For instructions on how to do that, please check this article.

Our mods considered using the community labels, but in all honesty, we are concerned about being shadowbanned 😅 We believe this solution will work and will allow us to have a good event for all!

Q: How should I use “the cut”?

A: First of all, thank you for thinking of your fellow RC fan! It would be great to use the cut or “Read More” option in your post if your content has a content warning on it and/or if your post is more than 1000 words long.

“Why cut at 1000 words?” Great question. You see, scrolling over really really long posts is just not very reader friendly, and many will not reblog content that takes more than a short hand gesture to get past. That’s why we recommend you hide the rest of your masterpiece around the 1000 word mark for us to reblog without feeling awkward about clogging up the feed with all this incredible content. We thank you in advance!
