i've been thinking about an 86 au set (vaguely) in the late 18th century. Giad and the Republic of San Magnolia are at war and Shin is a Giad soldier that was captured by San Magnolia. They try to pry information out of the infamous Undertaker that would get them an advantage over Giad but he manages to escape before they decide to just kill him off.

Lena is the only daughter of a highly decorated Alban commanding officer. Upon her father's death, she uses the fortune he left her to establish a shelter which house children orphaned by the war. To her mother's dismay, Lena breaks off the engagement her mother has set for her and moves to care for her children away from the city's prying eyes.

Shin and Lena cross paths while Lena is foraging for berries, nuts and shrooms with her children when one of them spots Shin near a riverbank, barely alive and wounded. Lena decides to bring him back to her shelter to care for him.

then romance ensues

hey guys do we realize that the main difference betwen how kai and midori developed is that kai was given the chance to learn what normal life and love and family was like by working with chidouins while midori was kept under asunaros thumb all his life. do we realize that just a few changes could have kai acting just as cruel and merciless as midori. do we realize that midori is a victim of asunaro too, and though that doesn't excuse his actions it does make them more tragic. do we realize this or are we all being serious when we say midori is the only character who isn't worth redemption.

What if the druid in cat form that was sleeping on Lapis's chest turned into Everyone's Favorite NPC The Horsemaster?

What if, instead of carrying Dave the vampire skull around in a little birdcage attached to her belt, Lapis hid him under a very large hat?

Then the chat imagined a marvelous scenario where Lapis walks into a tavern where Dave hasn't been invited and the hat stays behind, just outside the threshold.
