Ace ship ramblings

So, I have like. An art post planned soon. But until then uhh.

My (and kinda @greyzanticz a little) personal opinion on Ace's romantic compatibility with every other drdt character (I'm bored and sad so we gotta over compensate with complete insanity). I won't have much to say abt most of these, and I'm pretty sure no one ships a good majority of them, I just used every character for shits and gigs

Also idk if Ace ship discord is a thing but if it is please don't flame me if I don't like ur otp. Send me ur ship art instead. Try and change my mind. Dm me a paragraph explaining how Ace and character are soulmates. Also spoilers.

I'm also gonna give them number ratings bc. I can.

Let's start with the classic:

Ace + Levi

• I genuinely think this would be my otp or something if they hadn't fallen out in the 1st trial. After that the idea of these two in a romantic setting just. Doesn't work for me. There's to much genuine distrust and fighting. Them as besties is awesome though! They will be best friends again let me be delusional. So basically, ship it chapter 1, chapter 2 I'd rather eat glass (but no beef to Acevi shippers I completely understand). In a fix it au, it's prob a fav. 7/10.

Ace + David

• I didn't really. Clock this as thing. I think it makes more sense with pre-breakdown David? Like mediator x instigator? I don't really get it but I can understand the basic vibe and it's not... Horrible. 4/10

Ace + Nico

• Yeah if Levi and Ace fighting killed their ship potential for me, this was made to be my no-tp. Maybe in a fix it au, I could stand it. In cannon, nah 2/10.

Ace + Veronika

• Now, I love Veronika. And I love Ace. But oh God I can feel the dysfunction radiating. The basic dynamic is okay though, just don't feel like Veronika could and would do better (find a more interesting case study to date). Obviously as the Halloween trio Ace and Veronika are so besties but romantically, no 💕 4/10

Ace + Arturo

•Jesus this would be toxic as hell. I don't really see it, honestly, but I get where. It came from. That's the thing with rare pairs, sometimes they personally hit, sometimes they don't. I could probably like this one if I read a really good fic or something. 5/10

•i think I like this one more because it's banking on Verturo which is prob the biggest drdt ship I have, but idk. Them as a bestie unit is by far my preferred Halloween (or Horror, as I've been calling it 💀) Trio, but them as a polecule is. Okay too. 6.5/10

Ace + Xander

•I don't hate this one as much as chapter 2 Acevi, or Nico x Ace, even though Xander and Ace had heavy beef. I think it's bc it wasn't as. Serious as his later beefs. I think I could be convinced to enjoy and enemy to lovers fic with these two, but it's not something I'd actively look for. Also Xander died before Ace went into his "actually being a total dick instead of funny comical relief" era and I think if he'd survived to see it, Ace wouldn't have survived to live it, yk? 6/10

• Okay. So. I don't hate it. But I definitely don't like it either. I feel like Rose would NOT have the energy for Ace in any capacity, and she doesn't like ppl being loud, so. But also the idea of Rose's chill vibes calming Ace down Is cute... 5/10

Ace + Charles

• I don't think this would work. There is like, no chemistry (hahaha) here at all imo? Just doesn't call out to me for any reason. 2/10

Ace + Hu

• I really don't like this. I can't comprehend it. Like when I imagine what this is ship would be like it weirds me out. 0/10. Sorry any Hu x Ace shippers.

Ace + J

• I feel like J has a very real and reasonable distaste for Ace in cannon and I can't think of an instance where they interact otherwise. Their dynamic in my head is just "Crazy bitch and bitch who doesn't like them bc they are crazy" and I can't really think past that. Their dynamic romantically doesnt catch my eye for any reason 💀 1/10

Ace + Eden

• I genuinely think Eden is a lesbian but if we move past that... I still can't see these guys as anything but friends. Like I want them to be besties bc their dynamic is perfect (Angry asshole & the nicest human ever created) but as a couple, I just don't see it. I'll give it a decent rating though, since I understand how their dynamics would be interesting romantically. 5/10. Eden is a lesbian though she told me

Ace + Teruko

• nah Teruko would kill him 💀 the only reason i would want this is bc we would see tons more Ace since Teruko's our protag. But fr I don't really think they would work (take a shot every time I say that). They could probably relate to eachother to some extent though, maybe decent friends if Ace ever mellowed out. I think I read a chat fic once where Ace, Charles, and Teruko were all traumatized besties and I hold faith in my heart that'll be cannon. 4/10

Ace + Min

• Min does not have the patience for this mf lets me fr. I don't even think these two ever interacted before the trial 💀💀. Again not much to say, this doesn't stand out to me at all. I don't like it for some reason. 1/10

Ace + Arei

• Ehhhh I feel like they could be really good friends. Like their hateful energies used together could be a force to be reckoned with. And they could probably relate to eachother to a decent extent. But I don't think they would ever date (def not bc I think Arei's a lesbian too... Definitely not...) 3/10

Ace + Whit

•... Okay hear me out. Hear me out. Their dynamics bounce off of eachother pretty well. Silly goofy guy x Menace. Whit has shown he can deal with people who are assholes. I mean ik Whit and Charles are the otp and I'll stand by that forever but like. I could so see Whit trying to give Ace a lil redemption arch. Maybe actually succeeding a little. I like this one a lot. Still, you've kinda gotta squint at it a little for it to work.... 7 or 8/10.

I didn't include Mai bc idk who she is. Could be Ace's cousin for all we know

So, in conclusion, Ace is statically very undatable and he will be alone forever. Have a good day.

Favorite Character: Ziti my beloved. She has taken over my heart like mold. Oh my dearest. Hector is a very close second (he lost his throne to her, alas). Curls (Fernanda Pizazzo) gets third place hahehe.

MOONSTONE ALWAYS !!!

I wish we'd gotten more Brotherhood, but I also wish we'd gotten a better Zhan Tiri and a better Demanitus. They have so much lore potential that just flopped so bad :( !!!

We could've had Zhan Tiri tell Cassandra of her POV of her past with Demanitus in order to make Cass sympathize with her (developing her character and the plot in one swoop), and then we could've had a cool moment of the main gang reading Manny's journal in the finale (while looking for the Portal blueprints) and letting us see a flashback of his view of everything that happened until the fateful "I had to send my ex-bestie to acid hell" day and therefore get his own explanation on why he did it.

We could still have a vague explanation of their past, since both tales were told by opposite kings of the metaphorical board, but at least we wouldn't have the contradicting mess we got. Smh.

Another show to get a Crossover with ... Miraculous Ladybug :]

I have 1 tangled OTP and it's zhan tiri/winning (i have no strong opinions on any ship except the hector/ziti pairing, which probably doesn't even count since it's a pairing that exists in only 2 fics and they're BOTH WRITTEN BY ME HAJDJWJE)

I have 1 tangled NOTP and it's varian/literally anyone of the main crew (age gap too big ... noooo)

Best animal companions are Hector's bearcats and rhino, 100% (but Ruddiger is a close second :] )

My favorite AU is definitely the Moon!Hector AUs. They're awesome (hot take: moon Hector >>>> moon Cassandra)

I have no idea if I'd ever marry anyone in the TTS universe. I'd consider Curls (Fernanda Pizazzo) but it really depends on how she is outside the stage. Everyone else is too depressed, too young, too old, or otherwise problematic lmao. Forgive me y'all. I love Ziti but I too am much too weak to handle the atrocities HAHDHSHAHS

Favorite outfit is probably Hector himself. And Adira. They're tied. They look so good it's not fair THEY LIVE IN THE FOREST WHY DO THEY LOOK SO GOOD !!!!

A headcanon I have is that Adira cooks when she's stressed. It's just very neat :]

Out of all Moon Characters, Hector is the best one ofc. Varian and Eugene are a close second and third places, respectively.

Favorite fic? Moonrise ofc. But Incarnate, Blood of my Brother, the Tangled Sisters Series and especially Destinies Fulfilled bring me so much joy!!!

I found the fandom in 2018—2019. I remember I got to it maybe a couple months after season 1 ended and I got to watch season 2 as it came out !!

My song choices vary a lot depending on my mood. At the moment, my favorite song is not even a song but rather an instrumental/background music, "Onwards to the Dark Kingdom" (Great Tree soundtrack :] ) and I don't have a worst song to name because I don't care enough about the songs I don't immediately love to actually dislike them. So, I'm choosing "Next Stop Anywhere", since it's my least liked song among my liked songs !!

Characters I relate to ... dude ... I know there's someone, I just can't remember. Faith came to mind. Calliope did too. Geez. Of all people. At least it's not Demanitus or something.

A character I do not relate to? Demanitus. L.

A big opinion I have is that Hector should've, if not taken the Moonstone himself, at the very least become an actual threat at some point. He would've been very useful in s2 since s2 lacks any real threat or antagonist (except the debut episode (Stalyan and Baron), the mid-finale (Hector and the GT), and the actual finale (Edmund).

Also Ziti could've been a little less Yzma'd. just saying 🦀

12 as of a couple of days ago! 🥰 2 are from last year and 10 are my progress so far in the 2023 - Year of the OTP Challenge (my beloved 💖)

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

212,706 (that's about a Moby Dick's worth of words! 😦)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Just Tiger & Bunny, and just FireSky as a pairing, at that! (Who knows if I'll ever branch out... for now I'm very happy in my little corner of the fanfic world 🥰)

I probably respond too much to comments, if anything 😅 I cherish them immensely, so I tend to get a little carried away, and I try to answer every single thing that people say in them 🥺💙

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh. Uhm. I only really do happy endings, so... let me think.

Technically, the story that leaves the most angst still on the table by the end is Stereoscopy (The Hero's Shoulders), because there are some not-totally-solved things left in the background.

The one where the angst lingers closest to the end as a feeling, though, possibly enough to leave a tiny taste-memory of it in your mouth, might be To a Steadfast Heart, or possibly Second Song.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh, gosh. I suppose it depends on how you define happiest...

The most triumphant and satisfying ending I've done plot-wise, in my opinion, is hands-down Intertidal's.

If you're going more by something like "how much pink glitter and marshmallows is the final scene conjuring in my brain", though, it might be Love, Counted along the Fibonacci Sequence, or maybe An Honest Mistake, or Asterism (I write a lot of pink-glitter-and-marshmallows endings, sorry.)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

The haters would have to know little old me exists for me to get hate, lol. But more seriously, no, I get nothing but sweetness and I'm so grateful 💖💖💖

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Welll... I never quite mean to, but sometimes the story (and characters) ends up asking for it/needing it, and I'm so bad at saying no 😅

As for what kind... the kind that can have a 10k, E-rated chapter solely dedicated to the characters having sex, without me ever having to pick a word for "dick", lol (No, there's no trashy euphemisms, either; it's just me, my deep embarrassment, Keith Goodman's Very Polite POV, and synecdoche, my beloved, against the world 😂)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I haven't, and I don't think I'm terribly interested in trying (never say never, of course, but for now I can't think of any that I'd want to write). AUs and/or fusions, on the other hand, are very interesting and I'm farily sure at some point I'll end up writing one.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Again, they'd have to notice the fic to steal it 😅 (Of course, it might have happened without my knowledge, but I don't see why anyone would steal unpopular fics. And besides, it would have to either be posted on a website I don't look at, or modified to be other characters, because "my" ship tag on ao3 is far too small to hide anything in there, lol)

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No. (I'd make a joke about them being translated from the Italian in my head to the English on the page, but I think them up in English in the first place, so it wouldn't really apply 😅)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but I've "co-written" a lot of concepts/headcanons in chats and I always have an absolute blast doing that! (I'm not entirely sure I could ever co-write a fic, honestly, because I'm a bit of a control freak about my creations, and I'd probably get insufferable during the process)

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

The only one I write, lol: FireSky!!! ❤️💜 AKA Keith Goodman/Nathan Seymour, or Sky High/Fire Emblem from Tiger & Bunny (... their hero names ship name looks like a pretty crazy crossover, lol)

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Ooof. I only have two real wips on my hands; the one I have more doubts about ever finishing is the one I was trying to write for the September leg of the 2023 YOTP Challenge (for which I ended up writing a different story altogether). It has very unconvincing logistics, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to fix that to my satisfaction.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Mmmh. I've gotten a fair bit of compliments about my characterization, so that's one, I suppose. I've also been very good so far at only writing one fic at once and actually finishing almost all of them (which is not nothing!) I also really like my metaphors/similes/analogies/symbolism a lot, especially in dream sequences, but I don't know if that's objectively a strength or just something I do well (mostly) only to my personal satisfaction.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I used to be good at not having run-on sentences, but I've gotten so much worse about it lately?!? I really need to check myself on that. And I think I'm not very good at coming up with complex plots (one initial premise to kick things off, and then following the flow from there? Doable. Several significant events actually shaping the story from more than one side? SAVE ME.)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Well, if the characters were speaking another language for some reason I suppose I might, but I'm only fluent in two languages, so unless I could find someone who could help me, I would probably try to avoid the issue altogether somehow.

I also think it's not an easy thing to handle, because if the reader is not supposed to understand, a few words and phrases here and there, that maybe get explained/translated in-story at the moment or later, are okay; but huge chunks that the reader can't understand would just be annoying, and if they're supposed to understand, you need to fit a translation in along with the foreign dialogue, and it might not always be easy to do so in an efficient / not cumbersome manner.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Mh. If we want to be really precise about this, I think somewhere in my parents' house is a tiny notebook with a lilac (or possibly pale pink) cover, where a strange, short scene set after the Season 1 finale of Smallville is written in pencil. But that was a one-off thing.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Stereoscopy (The Hero's Shoulders) will always and forever be my baby; it's the one I poured the most time and soul and effort into, and the one that I consider, in a way, the definitive fic I could write for that pairing.

I do feel like I have to mention Intertidal, as well, though: it's by far my favorite of the rest my fics, and I think it has a lot to offer.

asdagjsdag YES the gang would make such a big deal of having ghosts, they'd probably try to make money off of julian somehow. robin and charlie would be 100% best friends. the captain would be having a breakdown at thier impropriety 24/7 but fanny would get along with them way better than she'd expect lol

My first favorite ship was Megatron/Shockwave (Megashock). Why ? I really don't remember. I'm not sure if it's because of Cyberverse, or if I was already a big fan of Megashock, because it was kinda in the same period. Anyway, I love this couple.

...Dinobot in Beast Wars. I would say nothing if it was just one death, because yeah he died like a hero, I totally accepted that. But don't bring him back with Dinobot Transmetal, to finally kill him again when he's the same Dinobot than before again !!! You can't do that to me !!!

+Tarantulas in Beast Wars too. Death totally randomly to a character really good. I'm not agree with that.

Hi everyone! By posting my latest fic for Queen Hurt/Comfort weekend, "I thank the Lord above, my life has been saved" I reached the count of 50 fics written and posted on AO3! 🥰

Yeah, I know, the count says 47, but the remaining three fics/oneshots have been posted as chapters in a couple of stories, namely "Please stay awhile" for Queen trough the seasons (2 fics in 1) and "The tales of John, Roger and Veronica" for Dealor Week 2022 (3 fics in 1). 👀🤭

I must admit I've never expected to come this far with writing, but reading and writing fics helped me SO much improving my English, as a non-native speaker. And I'm so happy to be able to tell stories not only through visual art but with writing as well, I'm very proud of how far I've come.

Soul Society Tattoo Artist AU Masterpost

We all know that a Tattoo Artist AU is about, right? It’s a modern-day AU where no one has any superpowers and one character works as a tattoo artist and the other one comes in for a tattoo or maybe runs a flower shop next door. It’s really just a way to plop your OTP into a more normal romcom setting. I was actually in the middle of writing one of these things when it occurred to me that in my last big fanfic, I had set up all this lore about tattooing in Soul Society, and that I very legitimately could have done my other favorite kind of AU, the kind where you change just one itty-bitty little thing and see what happens, namely...what if Renji never became a shinigami? What if he just became a tattoo artist instead?

Of course, the first thought in my head was I do not need to write another six-figure fanfic, and also, I find fanfics that re-tell the entire events of canon to be sort of tedious. But also, no one pays me to do anything and the idea sparked joy in a way that nothing had in a long time, so I’ve just been messing around. I’ve got a fanfic in progress about how Rukia and Renji meet (and fall in love) despite everything, and I’ve drawn a number of silly comics about Renji trying to rescue Rukia from getting executed. There’s enough of it floating around now that I thought it would be good to try to collect it in one post in a sensible reading order. I’m gonna pin this post, and I will try to keep it updated. Thank you so much for requesting, @hellenhasdied! These were great prompts and I hope you don’t mind that I decided to combine them (with David/Angel appearing in a small, technically unnamed cameo appearance.) My first time writing for Avior and Starlight! Hope you enjoy!

Starlight stared at Avior, their left eyebrow dipping a bit in that perfect way that always enhanced their bright, alert eyes. “So, you watched me all that time. Err, all your time,” they quickly corrected. Starlight used their hands to mime little boxes to keep their racing thoughts organized. “Which was seconds for me, but months for you? Is that what you’re telling me?”

“That’s what I’m telling you,” Avior confirmed. He let his knees bend, slowly sliding to sit on the floor of the all-too-familiar hellscape. The inchoate crossed his legs and brought an elbow to his knee. When he sighed, he let his chin rest in his palm. Preparing himself for having this conversation with Starlight had been exhausting, even with his magic constantly replenishing.

“But why?” Starlight wondered aloud.

“Why?” Avior repeated, utterly exasperated. “Why? You’re asking me ‘why?’” He burst out laughing, but an edge of panic echoed in his mirthless chuckling. "Starlight, give me a break, okay? For once, can't you just give me fucking break?" He jumped up from his seat, seizing them by the shoulders and pulling them closer so they were inches from his face. “I don’t know!” he cried. “I don’t know anything anymore! I haven’t known anything since I first got stuck in this hellscape reality!”

Starlight’s arms stiffened in Avior’s grasp and they flinched at his words. Avior noticed their small, fearful movements, but even worse, he felt their fear. He felt their fear as it snaked its way around their heart, wrapped itself around their lungs, and chilled their blood.

He never thought Starlight could ever be afraid of him. He suddenly felt sick.

“I’m sorry,” he choked out brokenly, releasing his grip on them and taking a few deliberate steps backwards to show them that they were safe. Or, at least, as safe as they could be here. Avior longed to be in a position where he could keep Starlight truly safe from anything and everything in either of their worlds. He squelched that protective urge to embrace them and shield them from the world. The last thing he would ever want was for Starlight to misinterpret his frustration as anger directed at them.

Again.

“Please, Starlight,” he begged, not even really sure what he was pleading for. Understanding? Acceptance? Belief? Dare he even hope, love?

Starlight shook themselves off and squared their shoulders. “No, that’s not what I meant,” they sighed. “I meant, ‘Why, if you can pick anywhere in the world, err, my world,” they corrected automatically. “If you can pick anywhere in the world to watch, why did you pick only me for what felt like such a long time for you?”

Avior gaped, his jaw tensing at their question. “Oh,” he said simply, letting his hand rub at the back of his neck in a sheepish gesture. “Well, it seems that I was wrong. I do know one thing in this hellscape. I know that I love you.” He ached to close the distance between them, so he dug his heels into the ground to keep himself still. “That’s why I had to see you, even in that skewed way. I had to see you because, you and me? We’re inseparable. ‘Till the end. I don’t know anything else about how or why or when or anything related to this messed up scenario. But I sure as hell know that much.”

“‘Till the end,” Starlight said thoughtfully, like they were trying on the phrase to test whether or not it rang true for them. It did. They strode forward, bringing their palm along Avior’s jaw, slowly trailing it up his cheek, to his temple, and even along the edge of his horn before backtracking. He leaned into their touch, and ever so gently let a hand come to their waist.

“Starlight,” he murmured. “I missed you so much.”

“I think I did, too, even though I didn’t know exactly what I was missing. Just that I was missing something,” they recalled. “It was you.”

Avior laughed again, but this time out of relief and even giddiness. It had been way too long he’d felt any other emotion but despair. Even if he and Starlight were stuck, he felt that with them, there was nothing they couldn’t do, including finding some way to escape their hellish trap.

“Can… can I see?” Starlight asked tentatively. “Just a glimpse of my world? Anywhere. I don’t care. Just, the chance to see people living their lives, to see that the world is still be there for us when we get out of here.”

Avior’s ears perked up at their vocabulary choice.

Us.

When.

He could’ve wept on the spot, but Starlight still had more to say, so he listened carefully. “But only if it doesn’t strain you too much.”

“For you? Nothing’s a strain,” he replied confidently, waving his hand into the space slightly above him and Starlight.

Suddenly, in the air, a still image formed. Starlight could make out a man, considerably large, laying in the back of a truck bed with someone else, probably his partner, with their head on his chest as they both stared at the sky. The man had his hands resting on the smaller person’s stomach while the person excitedly pointed into the sky. Starlight’s eyes followed the outstretched finger and found the sky contained a dazzling meteor shower, frozen in time. If they looked closely, Starlight and Avior could see that the couple was moving, but it looked like a recording playing painfully slowly. Still, with how wide the man’s smile was and how excited the other person was as they watched the meteor shower together, Avior and Starlight didn’t mind the sluggish movement of time.

“It’s so pretty! Thank you, Avior.” Starlight let their own head fall towards Avior’s chest. They stared intently, like the moment was the most gorgeous painting they’d ever had the privilege of seeing. “They’re in love,” Starlight observed.

Avior kissed Starlight’s cheek. “I know the feeling.”

This is all off the top of my head, so some opinions may vary upon rewatch.

EDIT: Reading Z’s reminded me of things I was going to mention but forgot apparently rip haha

Why I like them: It’s fucking DONUT. What’s not to like? He’s a delight. While not my favorite of the characters, he’s gone through a surprising number of changes throughout the series. Even if most of it was due to the decision to lean more into gay jokes.

Why I don’t: Ok, yeah, NOT a fan of the homophobic shit in the early seasons. It was so obvious they were going for a stereotype… but he ended up growing on me anyways. Also, the in your face innuendos were very uncomfortable but I guess I got used to those too. I don’t like the default falsetto they were doing for seasons 16 & 17. It was so uncomfortably… “a voice” y’know? It wasn’t remotely natural sounding.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Wash and Donut repeating the moment when Wash shot Donut. Or the Donut and O’Malley fight. Both. They’re tied. Wait no— his little anti-drug tirade at Simmons?

Favorite season/movie: How can I not say season 17? It was so good to him.

Favorite line: that one super uncomfortable one in season 16 that basically summed up what his role had mostly been up until that point one sec lemme find—

“I heard you needed to beat a guy off, so I came right away!” When he came to rescue Grif -w- Like me, I’m sure he had never been happier to hear an innuendo.

Favorite outfit: Hmm… maybe seasons 1 and 2? I dunno, I kinda liked the dull pink a bit more than the brighter ones. As for out of armor fanart, as long as it’s stylin’ and/or pink.

OTP: As many of you know, I am a fan of Washnut, Locnut, and Locnuttington. I’m chill with it never being canon, but I like the dynamics.

Brotp: Simmons and Donut have great sibling vibes. Wash and Donut have great untapped vibe potential. More of those please?

Head Canon: Aside from the obvious fan theories like burn scar, hearing aid, and his mom remarrying to a woman after his dad sent him to gay conversion therapy… Donut played baseball in high school. Why else would he be such a great pitcher? He spent a lot of time tossing to get that good. Gosh, he must’ve touched so many balls over the years. I’ll stop 🙃

Unpopular opinion: He’s as much of an asshole as everybody else. I have definitely written him too soft in the past (as i have many of the characters). He’s an obnoxious little shit and just five minutes with the guy is enough to know that.

A wish: Let the man say he’s gay. Or flirt with a guy without the guy recoiling in disgust and instead flirting back and Donut is taken off guard. Maybe it’ll be something more. That’d be cute. Please. More importantly, side effects from the Chrovos stuff? Or maybe not because “none of that ever happened” but goddamn would it be cool to include.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Don’t make him straight. And if you do, Rooster Teeth, only if EVERY OTHER character is stated to be queer. That is the only way I will find that “twist” funny.
