Okay so... I may have thought of the perfect way to end my little post season 5 fic... And I absolutely hate it. It's got everything, a climatic battle, high emotions, personal drama, a full circle resolution while sticking to the melancholy empty type of victory that season 5 had.

And the reason I hate it is simple. Regardless of how else I wrote the final battle, the big ending, whatever you want to call it... The aftermath was always going to be the same. I started this fic thinking it would be a great way to explore Faybon's connection to everyone, the damage secrets can do if not handled just right, and show just how out of their depth everyone become when faced with a villain that isn't after the wish. Hell I have three chapters that have moments that basically leave the characters going "Erebus is annoying because he won't stick around and fight." And thats just what's already written.

And sure there was also a lot of salt at just staring at the finale of Season 5 going "in what universe is this a satisfactory result for ANYONE??" Because there are so many things wrong and if you put someone aware of that in the show? Well things would implode. Especially if there were Akumas still around.

I'd figured out the broad strokes of the twists and turns I wanted to take, how I wanted things to escalate and so on. And while, sure, there are a couple of things that I've completely rewritten because I had such better ideas during the course of my writing, my plan always ended just before the climax. Before the ending starts, everything is revealed, everythings let out into the open and then.... I didn't know what to do next.

Now that I do? I kind of wanted to just scrap the whole thing. Because yet it works and yet it makes sense and yeah this is the obvious "it was always going to end like this" resolution the story needs but... It's not what I wanted to write. I wanted a true consequences story and while I could easily let the villain win, leave the heroes broken and just move on because that's all they really wanted it would lose all impact I feel the story had been leading up to.

In short, I guess what Im trying to say is... I can't write a happy ending for the life of me and if I can't write a story that makes me happy then why the hell am I writing? Life is miserable enough as it is without intentionally putting more misery on ourselves...

I think I might need another break from Tumblr. Turn off my notifications and emails for a while.

I think, perhaps one of the funniest things to come from EPIC popularising the Odyssey is that now a ton of people think Poseidon wanted to kill Odysseus.

In the Odyssey, Poseidon has no intention of killing Odysseus. In fact, part of the whole reason Zeus lets Poseidon do whatever he wants even though he thinks Odysseus is rad and should get to kiss his wife is explicitly because Poseidon had no intentions of killing Odysseus. Poseidon wanted to pay back the suffering/inconvenience blinding Polyphemus would have caused. It's a really abstract thing tbh. How do you pay back someone permanently disabling your son? Poseidon's solution was just to amputate Odysseus from his other half; i.e. Penelope. The end game was never murder, it was always an endurance race.

Also, for those wondering if there's any sort of in text reason for why Poseidon wasn't around in God Games - at the time in the Odyssey when Athena petitions Zeus to let Odysseus leave Calypso's island, Poseidon was -checks notes- on vacation in Ethiopia. Yep. He left to Ethiopia for a festival and thusly was very much absent for Athena's whole "please let Ody go? Please? 🥺" request.

I am begging y'all to read the Odyssey. It's a comedy for everyone except Odysseus and Penelope who are, in fact, suffering 24/7 365.

The other members were initially very against Gavriel and Jack's relationship, Gavriel Huffman included. However, Jack is eventually able to earn the respect of the other mobsters after proving himself able to protect both their boss [Gavriel] and the other members of their group, time and time again.

They swore to do him favors and other errands as a compensation for his benevolence. Jack himself didn't mean for this to happen, he just didn't want anyone to get hurt and his kind heart has won the group over in turn.
