Clinochlore

A Phyllosilocate that was originally named Chlorite in 1798 but later became known as Clinochlore by around 1851.

Clinochlore is generally greenish in color, often with a greasy, pearly or dull appearance and forming masses of sheet-like crystals forming rosette like structures.

Clinochlore high in iron can appear to be darker in color and shades of mid to dark green, almost black while specimens containing chrome minerals may appear pink to purple with other impurities having the potential to produce a golden brown color.

Clinochlore often forms in metamorphic rocks.

This piece comes from Airolo, Leventina, Switzerland

I know we often associate the canary with Sam, but I think Collin was the canary.

From the start he was singing the dangers of the job, trying to warn off everyone else. He tried to warn them, to save everyone by destroying the servers.

In the end, no one paid any mind to his voice until it was gone and he was dead. He died caged in the thing he tried so hard to escape, like a canary taking its last breath deep below the ground caged by the rocky walls that would spell its doom no matter how hard it sang.

being sparkbonded, Skyfire feels Starscream's struggle on the surface: exhaustion, energon starvation and other kinds of discomforts in a form of his body and spark aching. But he's husband supposed to be dead so the old man is confused. (btw the whole idea's of course Ray's and Edd's, i just got too excited about it and wanted to draw stuff. They are geniuses fr fr.)

Vermiculite

A Phyllosilocate mineral and type of mica that can range in color from green through golden yellow or brown.

This mineral often forms as platy aggregates like this specimen of as tabular, pseudohexagonal crystals.

An interesting property of Vermiculite is its behaviour of rapidly expanding to around 20 times its original thickness when heated to nearly 300°C

If you’re into gardening you’ve likely heard of Vermiculite before and are wondering if this is the same stuff even though it looks different.

The answer to this is yes. This is the same stuff as the Vermiculite you may use in gardening. Gardening Vermiculite is heated and expanded then formed into granules where it is used for its ability to retain moisture and improve soil aeration.

Vermiculite is a very soft mineral, ranking 1 to 2 on the mohs hardness scale meaning it’s fairly delicate. This is why I keep this specimen in a box and minimise handling.

Currently the box is just cardboard and I am planning on getting this piece a sturdier, fully enclosed box to keep it safe.

The final photo here shows one corner where you can see the very thin layers of plate-like crystals that make up this slab.
