iiii think i dreamed about mlp g3 few night ago? and thought huh it must have been a sign to draw ponies again lol

it's honestly been a while since i drew my absolute favourite g3 duo ;--; Wysteria and Spike have had my heart since childhood and they always will,,,,

so uh in my personal g3 au/headcanon universe (which started back with my pony galore series) they live together in a small cottage near woods, on the outskirts of Ponyville - they live off by selling flowers at the town's market during spring and summer seasons, and move in their friends' (Pinkie, Minty or Dash's) houses for autumn and winter. Each year they stay at a different friend's house and help out with chores eheh.

For their origin story... I was thinking Spike might have come from a dragon tribe/society which lived far from Ponyville or major cities like Unicornia and Butterfly Island; yet these dragons were pretty friendly and brave and usually worked with ponies (especially royalty/leaders of the respective kingdoms) to protect them from harm and generally help out. I hc Spike was born a water-breathing and wingless dragon (when other dragons were fire-breathing and winged), so he was the oddball in the family and the tribe. Even if he wasn't destined to protect a princess of ponies, he found princess' graciousness in Wysteria when she found him injured after a rather tough dragons' test and nurtured him back to health.

They have been living together as best friends ever since, with Spike greatly helping Wystie do gardening; and his water-breathing powers definitely came in handy < 3

guess who has posted no art since march but decided to crawl out of the depths now, just to make a second my little pony post in a row?? idk why i do this to myself, taking such a long break from drawing and then coming back to it with a multi-part drawing including a full body character… >o<

anyway i redesigned fluttershy (in both pony and human form) from mlp - she's my favourite! i thought a shorter mane would be cute on her, and the cutie mark is partially inspired by g3 posey too. i also gave her feathered hooves to provide a more precise reason why pegasi can walk on clouds in the show! human redesign was just entirely based on vibes, i don't really have much explanation for my choices. the only strong reasoning i have is for the crop top, because see a lot of comments on other fluttershy human redesigns saying she should be dressed "modestly" and not show as much skin. if that's your personal headcanon then thats okay, but being shy =/= covering your body to hide any skin and i feel like that's a weird thing to perpetuate; i did the opposite just cuz i thought it would look cute :3. also the bag and boots are not real leather because imo she'd be a vegetarian in human form :p

now that this is done maybe i will go and stretch or something? working on this so obsessively has given me bad eyestrain aaa

Reviewing Horse Picrews - Part 2

A brief review of every horse Picrew dollmaker I could find! (The small exception being any generic MLP G4 pony makers.)

I'll be trying to create an either sunbleached black / seal brown / liver chestnut horse in each one (my favourite coats), as well as one or two more exciting horse designs, showcasing the options.

(These Picrews are created by people in their free time without getting paid, so let's remember that and respect the artists!) ------------------------------------------------------------

⬆️ Together with Horse-san by Kikuko Rating: 🥕🥕🥕🥕⚫ 4/5 carrots + a fun drink 🍸 You can make a little scene of celebrating an occasion with your favourite race horse. Again, not a ton of options for coats or mane, but very cute for what it is! It doesn't use the built-in colour system and the categories are written in Japanese, so you might have to click around a bit.

⬆️ Pony Maker by Neonsparks Rating: 🥕🥕🥕🥕⚫ 4/5 carrots + plate of cookies 🍪🍪🍪 A cute one where you can make both some more realistic horses and very fantasy horses with lots of options! The style is fun and the amount of colour options made me happy. It's also easy to use with good thumbnails.

⬆️ Realistic Horse Maker by Glades Rating: 🥕🥕⚫⚫⚫ 2/5 carrots + a small sprout 🌱 This one is clearly under construction, but I thought it was nice enough to include anyway since it would look great once finished. There are a few different coat options available.

⬆️ Horse Maker by Hone Rating: 🥕🥕🥕⚫⚫ 3/5 carrots + bandaids 🩹🩹 There aren't that many options, but the horses look like they're part of a dark and dramatic story, which is worth points on its own. Doesn't use the built-in colour system but has good thumbnails.

⬆️ Pony Maker WIP by citrxs Rating: 🥕🥕🥕⚫⚫ 3/5 carrots + ice cream 🍦 It's a WIP, and there aren't any options for mane or tail styles, but you can still make a cute G3 MLP in this maker!

⬆️ PUH Maker by NOEN Rating: 🥕🥕🥕⚫⚫ 3/5 carrots + egg 🥚 PUH apparently stands for Pegasus Unicorn Horse. I don't know the context of this, but i like my PUH.

⬆️ Pony Maker! by Gentle Rating: 🥕🥕🥕⚫⚫ 3/5 carrots + a falling star 🌠 You can make some cute ponies in this one. It's MLP/fantasy focused and has some very pretty colour options. It loses one carrot point on that it was a bit hard to use due to the colour swatches being blank and some thumbnails being unclear, but the style is pretty.

⬆️ Chill Horse Maker by VirtualUmiushi Rating: 🥕🥕🥕⚫⚫ 3/5 carrots + warm soup 🥣 There aren't many options in this one, but the horses are indeed cute and easy-going. It doesn't use the built-in colour system but since there's not that many options it's still easy to use.

⬆️ horse maker by Yuglenta Rating: 🥕🥕⚫⚫⚫ 2/5 carrots + a rainbow 🌈 It doesn't have that many options, but it has a unique style. It doesn't use the built-in colour system but since there's not that many options it's fine. With a tiny bit more polish it would get another carrot point.

⬆️ Technicolour Horse Maker!! by ZIHETTE (@zihette on Tumblr) Rating: 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕 5/5 carrots + juice carton 🧃 I went in expecting this to have less options than it has. I could almost make a seal brown / sunbleached horse! There are lots of cute options in styles and colours, there are expressions and some accessories and extras, so I recommend this one, especially for the intended MLP/fantasy horses.

⬆️ Horse-ish by U------ma Rating: 🥕🥕⚫⚫⚫ 2/5 carrots + a pretzel 🥨 They're very cute even though there aren't that many different options. I would've given it another carrot point easily if there were more brown mane colour options.

⬆️ horse 1 by moooo Rating: 🥕🥕🥕⚫⚫ 3/5 carrots + delicious croissant 🥐 This one honestly took me a bit by surprise too. I would say it has a lot of potential, there are lots of good ideas in there, but it's a bit confusing to use (not using the built-in colour system but having relatively many options, and some being unclear). I would've liked to see a few more coat pattern/detail options and colours, but I think the horses are really cute.

⬆️ Horsesona maker by myrdrottningen (@queenoftheantz !) Rating: 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕 5/5 carrots + flower bouquet 💐 One of the cutest horse makers ever. Lots of customisation options, including different body and head shapes, mane and tail styles, accessories, etc. Doesn't go too deep into coat patterns and details, but has lots of other stuff. You can make both realistic and fantasy horses. Nice style. It's great!

Ups and Downs

Since I last posted I’ve bought quite a few dolls. Both in Monster High, Rainbow High and also a couple of factory Blythe girls. I am eyeing up a few legit Blythe dolls and hopefully will have one before Christmas as a gift to myself.

My most recent dolls are the Fear book Draculaura and Amped Up Frankie who has to be my favourite looking Frankie doll. Which is saying something because I’m not a huge fan of g3 Frankie (mainly because she has so much pink).

I saw people arguing over the differences in g3 to g1 Monster High. It confuses me to some degree because while I get there is some over saturation of colour what do these folks want? The line to stop dead again. Having said that if you don’t like this gen of Monster High then go buy gen 1 dolls on eBay. I prefer gen1 Frankie but she wasn’t even my favourite character in gen 1. At least not by the time the line finished. She was at first but I preferred Draculaura and Ghoulia towards the end of gen1.

Speaking of Ghoulia I wasn’t sure about her gen 3 doll at first but now I have both playline dolls. And she’s my favourite. I still want her to have red in her outfits like in gen 1 but I can live with this incarnation. I got Cleo’s core refresh, Lagoona’s Monster Fest and Clwdeen’s core doll. I think that’s all the girls from Monster High I have so far. I’m getting a new bookcase so hopefully I can get a good group photo. I need more stands. My literal only real complaint for generation 3 is the lack of stands. If SHEIN can sell ten stands for £6-£8 then it wouldn’t have killed Mattel to add a stand to the dolls. It’s a little cheap of them to stop doing that.

A few more Rainbow and Shadow High dolls got added to the collection. Hopefully they’ll fit on the bookcase 😅🤣🤣 I have so much reorganising to do over the next few days. Between my gen 1 My Little Ponies, my MH, RH and factory Blythe I have total organised chaos right now. Seeing them all makes me happy on difficult days and I think that’s the joy of collecting as an adult.

TMI Tuesday: What did you think of the previous generation MLP cartoons like G1, G3, and G3.5?

G1 - Iconic! If G1 never happened, the my little pony fandom likely wouldn't exist. I've never watched G1, but the art style is super cute and I love the 80's filter, I'm a huge vintage fan!

G2 - I know next to nothing about this generation. Never watched it, barely knew it existed honestly... ^^'

G3 - This is the generation I started to grow up with! As a 2000's baby, I grew up watching G3 movies such as; A Very Minty Christmas, The Princess Promenade and Pinkie Pie and the Ladybug Jamboree (those are the 3 mains ones I remember the best) along with some others. It isn't my favourite generation as looking back on the art makes me a little uneasy, but I still go back to watch the movies and episodes to this day for the nostalgia as G3 was released in 2003!

G3.5 - Wait this exists?

G4 - MY FAVOURITE!!! I was around 11-12 years old when MLP:FIM was released. It was my favourite show at the time and it was one of the only things I talked about. Being young and autistic, I had quite a few hyper fixations. I'd been doodling since I was a little tot, but I started to seriously get into drawing after FIM was released. I had 2 best friends who also loved the show, we all made OC's (Sugar Rush was mine, that's right, my OC is almost 13 years old!!) and came up with a story we wanted to tell over Tumblr. One of the friends lost interest, so me and my other friend started our first blog on Tumblr, including Sugar Rush and her OC. That blog is still up to this day, but I don't touch it. I stay far away from it actually as the said friend I had the blog with cut me out of her life randomly one day and said a bunch of toxic things about me online. She never brought the concerns to me, I never knew about them.

G5 - Ew, sorry. I watched the first movie with high expectations, they were shattered. I don't bother with the new generation at all. The 2D art style is cute and the 3D art style is lovely, but the story is absolute crap and I find it boring.

So there you go, how I feel about each generation!

I would like to share a highlight reel of some of my silly colourful horses since I've recently drastically expanded the collection. In no particular order:

This is Pinkie Pie and Toolaroola, the oldest of my current collection (excluding the one breezie left over from when I was an actual child). I weaselled them out of a friend when I was around 12-13 and promptly took them home and gave Toolaroola a necklace and earrings and Pinkie Pie an eyebrow ring. I like to think they're dating.

I saw this one (Officially named Denim Blue but that's lame) on an Ebay listing recently and immediately thought ''whoa! Pre-transition Shining Armor!!'' So of course I got the whole lot because who wouldn't at that point. Makes me think about the logistics of pony transition. Do their cutie marks change? Do they dye their manes? Do they just go to their unicorn friend and ask for them to magically change their gender? Does such a spell exist? Where can I find it?

Fluttershy, carefully regarding a neon tetra who is fully ignoring her. She's a new addition as well, coming from that Ebay lot. I'd like to eventually have all of the precursors to the Mane Six, but I know they can be pretty sought after. I don't even have a Rainbow Dash yet which annoys me because I really like her G3 design.

Pretty Parasol, who I got probably five years ago at this point. She came with a couple others but I got the lot for her specifically because she's one of the two I actually had when I was little! The original fell victim to a dog and some melted balloons unfortunately, and I wasn't old enough to know how to restore her yet. I used to call her Strawberry Vanilla, so that's her name to me.

Hidden Treasure! This is a big one! She was my first real restoration job, and the only one I've ever finished. I got her in godawful condition at an op shop in late 2021 and finished her sometime this year with new glitter, a full clean, hair from (unfortunately) dollyhair.com (don't worry, I know the drama now and will not repeat this. Their customer service was horrible anyway) and a strawberry scent oil. She's meant to have tinsel in her mane but I gave up because it was annoying me, there's a little in her tail though.

Bonus:

My G2s!!!! I love this generation so much, it's definitely my favourite in terms of the actual toys. I find G1s are really expensive and hard to find (at least in Australia), G3s are cool and nostalgic and probably my second favourite, and G3.5s onward are just too small and fine to actually use a toy, plus whatever hair they use now goes frizzy in 0.2 seconds. But G2s? Man, they all have an individual gimmick, they're a good size; can fit in a pocket and also be played with, their hair is long enough to brush but not so long it gets in the way like G3s, and their sculpts are so pretty and appealing. I love the way they look much more like actual horses than any other generation and they have their own unique charm. And no one talks about them! I find it so crazy that no one else seems to appreciate them like this. So many people just ignore them, I had no idea they even existed until I connected the dots and figured out there must be something between G1 and G3 and looked them up. These five are yet another Ebay lot that was about $30 including shipping, which is unbelievable for something of this vintage, in this country, where things like this can get expensive. They're just so appealing, I can't believe more people aren't as in love with them as I am.

Anyway my opinion on the new pony movie..... It's kinda sad how much of the franchise's femininity has been stripped away from it and it was just kind of unpleasant to have the worldbuilding be like,,, modern and barely pony related.

Also all the pony colours were super washed out and like,,,,, boring? And I absolutely hated how the pony names followed a human naming convention instead of the funky pun based/idiom kind of names MLP is known for.

idek I guess I'm too much of a g1/g2/g3 stan but this movie wasn't really enjoyable for me since it took away a lot of my favourite elements of the ponies

I've recently started collecting g3 ponies and I've got a little question for the mlp g3 collector community: Does Cute Curtsey's blue winter variant actually exist, like do people own this pony? 😮 I started to wonder cause when I try to google her I only get two photos of the set she was allegedly released in, and nothing else. Like no other pictures whatsoever. Winter theme is my favourite and she looks like a cute pony, so it's a shame if she's unattainable. 🥺😞🤲❌🦄❄️ Thank you! 💖

hi anon !! i don’t have as much g3 knowledge as i’d like since i don’t really collect them anymore but i had a poke around and found the same results as you :( if she is available out there she must be pretty rare. i recommend just keeping your eyes peeled on ebay and such - there’s a chance she could pop up eventually and some non-collectors don’t realise what they have and will list them without specifics or in lots ! i hope one day you can get her :D

to all the mods, how did you get into mlp and who is your favorite background pony :0?

i got into mlp around age 7 or 8, and i dont quite remember how lol. i think it either just was on the hub a lot and i watched it out of curiosity or it was all over the internet and i watched it for the same reason...i always loved horses though!! i took horse riding lessons as a young kid and i also collected bella sara cards and played howrse competitively! my fav background ponies are probably dr whooves, muffins vinyl and octavia though! i also quite like zecora and luna but i think theyre both secondary chars lol. - mod twilight

I got into mlp through one of my friends when i was fairly young!! we liked to watch the old movies on vhs!!! and my favourite background ponies are Lyra and Bonbon and also Dr Whooves - Mod Braeburn

I liked it a little bit as a preteen and a kid, I had a few of the toys (brushable rainbowdash was my fav) But me and my gf both got back into it fairly recently!! My favorite background character is probably DJ pon-3! - Mod Rainbowdash

I was in love with it when I was a kid and enjoyed it in secret in middle school but now that I'm older I feel more comfortable in enjoying it again!! Me and my partner got back into it together! I grew up on g1 and g3 so those gens were my introduction!! My mom handed me down her g1 toys and vhs’s and I watched and played with g3 as it came out. Hasbro has a customer for life lol! And I know it’s a bit of a basic answer, but my fav background characters from g4 have to by lyra and bonbon. General notes: First, I wanted to make them a rainbow! So each one of them represents one ROYGBV colour! Seemed like it would make more sense, that way. I also wanted to give them more noticeable hooves, since they ARE ponies!

Pinkie Pie: I really didn’t need to alter Pinkie Pie’s colour scheme at all! I thought it spoke for itself. That being said, it was still very, very plain compared to the entire rest of her personality. I wanted it to look busy, but the business comes from patterns so you really don’t need to look very hard! I also gave her symmetrical piebald spots, and symmetrical hair buns. I thought it might make more sense for her curls to be a lot tighter! All of that symmetry is supposed to represent the controlled chaos of her personality!

Rainbow Dash: I had a lot of issues with RD’s colour scheme. She’s a very show-off-y character, and the thing she tries to show of the most is her flying! So WHY did they make her THE SAME COLOUR AS THE SKY? I made her orange so that she would be bright and obvious! I also stole some inspiration from G3 Rarity with her mane and tail-- warm colours for her mane, and cold for her tail! When she’s flying really fast, it all comes together to look like a rainbow!  And! What colour do you get when you mix every colour (pigment theory, not light theory)? It’s brown! Making her orange allowed me to outline her mane and tail in brown.

Then for her markings, I wanted to give her socks! They look like those long, athletic-wear socks (they’re supposed to, anyways)!

Finally, her earrings! Those are not just part of her design, but I like to picture that she takes them out when she’s about to go flying. Someone needs to hang on to them, though, because she can’t just leave them lying on the ground! Looks like she’s got an audience member for these craaaazy stunts she’s about to practise.

Rarity: I didn’t think there was anything wrong with Rarity, but hell, I was doing the other five, and there was an idea I wanted to try...

She was the last one I designed, and I knew she had to be yellow, but I didn’t want to throw away the royal violet mane and tail! That seemed crucial to Rarity’s design. I thought it would look interesting if they were maybe lined with violet, and boy!! That certainly turned out very well! Then, I eliminated the blue from her design, since it didn’t seem like it added anything, anymore. I’m not super clear on what her special talent actually is, but I figured she needed more references to her passion: sewing/dressmaking. The light gold strands in her hair are supposed to look like golden threads!

Applejack: I might not be the happiest with Applejack’s design-- in fact, I’ll probably redo it at some point! That being said, there are a few core ideas at play here:

First off, almost the entirety of the Apple family is green, or red, or some mixture of both; even those who are yellow/brown have green or red hair to balance them out! And sure, there are golden delicious apples! But Applejack is orange. Which bothered me.

I originally tried to make her red, but I couldn’t find something that didn’t end up with her just looking like Big Mac. Plus, Apple Bloom is already the inversion of Big Mac! Not that siblings can’t look alike, but it felt unoriginal to do something like that. Not to mention, I’m PRETTY sure AJ’s talent will be to take over the role of head of the Apple family after Granny Smith, so I wanted her to look a lot like Granny Smith!

I was originally going to have her lose the hat, because of all the ponies that were going to accessorize, Applejack seems like the least likely one (except for when it’s actually practical, like when she’s actually working the farm), but then there wasn’t enough red to tie it all together.

Fluttershy: The base idea around Fluttershy’s recolour was simple: give her colours to make her stand out less. As a pegasus, she’d probably benefit from blending in with the sky, in theory! So, blue. A green mane to tie together that more natural feeling.

The pink accents are there to soften her. Fun fact: the gradient on her legs was how I was going to originally do socks! It just didn’t look quite right on RD. I wanted to do gradients in her mane/tail, but it didn’t end up looking the way I wanted it to.

I didn’t want to lose the pastel vibes of her original design, otherwise I might have tried a more earthy palette! 

Twilight Sparkle: Twilight was the first pony I redesigned! I am very happy with her!!

I wanted to make her seem more magical; it’s really not the darker colours that do this on their own, but the very bright secondary colours against them! Her yellow eyes also really add to this effect, I think! I also made her cutie mark match the new colour scheme.

Violet is already a colour associated with magic, so I knew I wanted to keep that! Blue is associated with wisdom, and while I didn’t get to keep any of it in this new design, I think her gala dress would still be blue! Something can be your favourite colour without it being part of your body! For example, mine is also blue, but I have brown eyes! Guess I’ve gotta stick to blue clothes!

Her diamond is very large, and stretches up and around her horn. I considered giving her glasses, but I have experience with being an avid reader with no friends! I myself do not have glasses. This is a classic case of projection and also not knowing how to draw glasses in this style.

A bit complex cause of how G1 is classified. If you just count the original movie and first animated series as G1, then it's Wind Whistler. If you wanna include My Little Pony Tales (the series with just earth ponies and set in "modern" times) as well, it's a tie between Wind Whistler(MLPaF) and Bright Eyes (MLPT). I personally always though of Tales as being the animated G2 since there was no animated media based on the G2 toy line.

This is hard! I can't pick one favorite since there have been so many good ones, and I'm sure there's a lot I'm forgetting. I like most of the premiers and finales (and any episode with Starlight) but besides that, some of my favs are Amending Fences, A Royal Problem, Fame and Misfortune, Frenemies, Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep, Sounds of Silence

G4 for sure, but I do have some nostalgia and fondness for G3 and had some G3 pony toys as a kid

‘Kay, so... a LOT of thing about me have changed. Like, a lot. Mostly opinions, so I’ll get to those first.

Opinions:

1. I no longer support TBaTF. Mostly because the comic sucks now (it started sucking after that page where they reference the Eddsworld fanfiction Dear Starboy), but also because, well... I’ve gotten a bit more mature and thought about all the stuff people have talked about regarding the creators, and... yeah.

2. I don’t like Sanders Sides that much anymore. It’s just one of those things where I was like “oh cool! i’ll check it out!” then I was like “neat! i love this series! i check every new video!” and then I was like “meh." and kinda forgot about it. A lot of blogs should probably expect unfollows related to this.

3. Homestuck. Not sure whether I like it or not, either way I’m mostly here for the shitposts.

4. Eddsworld in general. I really only like things that are pre-legacy, because, well... Legacy!Eddsworld just isn’t that well done. I can probably point out more errors there than I can in Classic!Eddsworld. Red Leader/Future!Tord is a cool concept, though, and I hope someone can make a version that A. doesn’t connect very much to Legacy's Tord as that depiction of him was... not good, and B. isn’t anything like TBaTF/the entire rest of the fanbase’s version. (I get it. Tord is an edgelord. It’s not cute or quirky anymore. It’s just annoying.).

5. My Little Pony. Okay, this one’s coming right out of the blue, since I haven’t really talked about it on here. I kinda like G4 but I kinda don’t, my favourite is probably always gonna be G3, though.

6. Moomin. ‘Nother one that I didn’t talk about much on my blog. Before this year, I had no clue what this was. I’d see art of it sometimes, go “what is that hippo-lookin’ thing from?”, and keep scrolling. Aaaand... now I’m a total sucker for this show. It’s so cute! :3

7. I think astrology is pretty neat. There’s probably gonna be a few reblogs popping up here and there related to it.

...Okay. I think that's all the stuff that’s changed, opinion-wise, anyways.

Now, uh... more personal stuff!

Me:

1. I now identify as male. Probably gonna get a few ter"f”-y blogs telling me about how much of a “pOoR mIsGuIdEd BuTcH lEsBiAn” I am, but giving a fuck about that is not something I have the capability to do. I’ll just block you.

2. I am also gay. If anyone says I’m just “a StRaIgHt WoMaN fEtIsHiZiNg GaY mEn”, I’ll block you. Because if you seriously believe that, fuck you.

3. I’m gonna go by “Lance” now, which means if anyone decides to post about Emmasworld should definitely separate me and the main character. For satan’s sake, she’s a demon catgirl with wings now.

4. I’m fine with being called ‘they’ as well, and might have some days where I'm more comfortable with that than with ‘he’. If I am having one of those sorts of days, I’ll probably go as "Starboy”. No, I have no idea why this is a thing. Yes, I’m just going to accept it rather than wondering why this is a thing.

Okay, and last thing, it’s related to this blog...

The other thing:

This blog is probably not going to have much Emmasworld stuff. I already have welcometocartoonia.blogspot.com for that. (shamelessly mentioning the blog I have on a completely different website, ‘cause why not?)

And... that’s about it.

I love this so much. When G3 launched in 2003, my mum bought me two from Argos. When toys came in sets like this, the Argos stockroom would send them out at random, you didn't get to choose. The two they gave me ended up being these two, and they've been a pair in my mind ever since- my first G3s. Sparkleworks is still my all time favourite pony, but Sunny Daze is up there too 🧡💜💛
