So for about ten days now I've been playing around with the budgeting app Mint (along with a Google Sheets yearly budget template and a lot of manual work with a calculator, a calendar, and a succession of blank Google Docs because that's just the kind of person I am), and so obviously I have some Thoughts.
* I picked Mint because it's the budgeting app all the financial reviewers talk about, because it's run by Intuit who also own TurboTax so I knew their security and interface would be good, and because it does not come with built-in shaming over any of your ~unnecessary~ purchases.
* Mint is a free app which makes its money by offering you sponsored ads for financial products it thinks you might like, and getting paid by the advertisers when you accept one of the ads. The most intrusive location for these ads is on your dashboard, feed, whatever you want to call it, where the ad tile is required to be the third tile down and cannot be shuffled to the bottom or turned off.
* (There is also a desktop browser version, Mint.com. I have poked it very slightly but couldn't get it to do anything useful. More on that later. I don't remember noticing how the ads are arranged there.)
* The app's general design is very sleek and intuitive, what I'd expect from the parent company of QuickBooks and TurboTax. Other than the intrusive ad tile, it lets you rearrange everything however you want.
* Mint is designed around importing transactions from your bank account for you to do budgetary stuff at, so obviously security is really important, which gives Intuit an edge up on the competition because I'm already used to trusting them with my tax returns. It only seems to sync new transactions during banking hours, which for someone like me who does most of their shopping on Sunday is kind of frustrating. It also won't let you edit or recategorize a transaction till it's finished "processing" a day or two down the line. I don't know if these pitfalls are common to all budget apps but it would probably make sense if they are.
* One thing Mint does that's incredibly handy for me is it lets you put all your recurring bills in one place and even sync them with your phone calendar. I actually had to turn off the phone calendar sync because it was alerting me constantly on the day before payday when I couldn't do anything about the bill that was due on payday, but if you can find the setting to change the alert frequency it might be useful. And having a nice chronological list of what the fuck is due when, is extremely helpful to my brain, because previously I was trying to remember everything in my head and I kept losing bills.
* Going down my tiles as I have them sorted in the app, I don't have much to say about that list of transactions itself, except that you can recategorize them and split them into different categories -- which is handy if the rent included $105 late fees which you don't want befuckening your future averages, or if you bought groceries and also a barbecue lighter at Walmart, to take two recent examples.
* You cannot, unfortunately, rename or edit categories. On desktop only, you can supposedly add categories, but you cannot then use those categories in any of Mint's other functions, which really defeats the purpose. And their ideas of what categories you might need are pretty... idiosyncratic, not to say WASPy, so e.g. I'm currently categorizing Patreon income under "Reimbursement" because the other options were things like "Investment Income" and "Returned Purchase". And transfers to my savings account can either be "Credit Card Payment" or "Transfer for Cash Spending".
* (I suppose I could put my savings under "Investment: Deposit" or something similarly grandiose, but that seems like... a lot for the 31 cents rounded up from getting a pizza at Little Caesars.)
* Anyways. So then, after the obligatory ad tile, comes a nice colorful pie chart of my spending for the month, which I can open up and tab through to look at all the categories. I saw one finance blogger saying you should use the Miscellaneous category for some things rather than getting too granular, but I like seeing the little individual entries for my haircut and my cloth mask and my pharmacy copay. (That last one's going to be a more substantial pie slice now that I can actually afford to start taking most of my meds again. Turns out my prescription for diabetic test strips expired, though, so I have to get ahold of my doctor and get a new one sent over, and I'm looking skeptically at the copays. :P I've been ignoring my diabetes since January, it can wait a little longer till I'm financially caught up from COVID.)
* I can see list-style breakdowns by category and merchant, too. This is one of the few places in the mobile app that my income shows up, other than the actual paycheck transactions. The desktop version has some more places to budget projected income, but the handling is clunky as hell.
* Next up is the tile where I've been spending a lot of my time, Budgets. This is your basic "envelope method" where you create, say, a budget for haircuts and another one for groceries. Each budget has to be for one of Mint's pre-created categories, and when you have a spending transaction in that category, it puts the expense against that Budget. The desktop version has you also creating a line item for expected income in Budgets, and then becoming stroppy when you attempt to adjust parts in the wrong order, so I prefer the app which simply tells you e.g. that you have spent $900 of an allocated $1000 with an airy unconcern for whether the $1000 has arrived in your bank account yet.
* My single biggest frustration with Mint is that you cannot create Budgets based on user-created categories, nor can you delete, rename, or even collapse categories in the list. So if I go to create a new Budget for, say, "Housewares" to account for the $1 barbecue lighter I finally bought (I have large hands and a tall jar candle that has burned down farther than I can reach, okay, it was a necessity), then I'm stuck scrolling all the way up and down past "Investment: Capital Gains" and "Kids: Child Support" before finally settling on "Home Supplies" because it doesn't really seem like a "Home Furnishings".
* After Budgets comes Accounts, which just shows me my current net worth across all my accounts. I actually unlinked my savings account because it was confusing the hell out of me to see a 31-cent transfer out of checking paired with the same 31-cent transfer into savings, so this doesn't show me anything I can't get through my bank app, but if I had current credit card debt or non-retirement investment accounts it might be more useful.
* (I have not linked my 401(k) to Mint. I haven't even figured out how to get into my 401(k), either before or after it transferred to a different handler a couple months back. I feel like those are problems for a later time than "okay how much groceries can I buy and still pay the rent".)
* On the desktop version of Mint, you can also put things like your car in under your net worth as Property. I tried that, found that I both did not believe their Kelly Blue Book valuation at all (it didn't have any option to take into account "was totaled two years ago and looks it but still mostly runs") and that I find it extremely stressful to have non-liquid property listed as part of my net worth. Interesting to know. You learn all sorts of shit about yourself when you try to manage money.
* Next there's a tile that attempts to break down my "cash flow" by month. It doesn't seem to have noticed the Paypal transfers on which I was largely subsisting for the three months it was able to pull from my bank account, even though they show up fine in Transactions, so it's deeply confused about whether my cash flow is Healthy or Unhealthy. For now, with my acquisition of a second paycheck for August, it seems to have settled on Healthy. I might turn that tile off though. It doesn't really... offer much, I guess?
* I have turned off the tile that shows me my free credit score. That's a problem for a much later me. Right now I have more urgent problems, like catching up on my deferred car insurance and my deferred cell phone bill and my deferred healthcare deductions.
* You also can't turn off the tile for the Mint "Life Blog" or the one asking you to rate the app, but at least they sit at the bottom of the app as you scroll down.
* The desktop version also has an entire segment not found in the app, for "Goals", where you can supposedly put in your outstanding debts and figure out payment schedules for them. It sounds really good in principle, but I found that section of the site unworkably glitchy, on both laptop and iPad; I couldn't even get past the screen where you try to first enter one of your debts, as it required me to choose answers from two dropdowns neither of which would actually do anything. I was able to get an estimate from the "saving for a rainy day" goal, anyway, by putting in the amount of a debt and telling it I'd like to save up that much money in a year, but that's nothing I couldn't have done with a calculator and a bit of mental effort.
* Jumping back up to the top of the app, one other thing that does intermittently drive me bananas about the app is, when you put in a bill you get a dropdown where you select how often it should recur, but then it... doesn't recur. You have to manually put in the next occurrence. It's still a handy list of upcoming bills, but I actually had to resort to my phone calendar (which properly handles recurring events) to get a good visual on future months' bills.
* And because there is nowhere to put in your projected income and get a nice projection of "On X date you will have $XX in your bank account", or even better a daily graph of your expected cash flow so that you can see "yeah don't put that $300 in savings you'll need it for rent in two weeks", I've been reduced to, as mentioned above, manual daily projections through the end of the year using my phone calculator, phone calendar, Google Docs, and eventually my damn iPad drawing app (came with a Bluetooth stylus I never got working) because I couldn't find any physical graph paper.
* So. Um. Summary. I guess it's a good app? It's very sleek, it has nice charts and graphs and a good interface. But it thinks you can do a lot more with it than you can actually do. Its main uses for me are probably going to boil down to "stop forgetting bills" (the rolling list format works a lot better for my brain than the phone calendar format, even if I do have to re-enter data every time I mark a bill paid) and "finally figure out how much I spend on food really".

TWB International Student Fund Raiser!
Greetings! TWB (The Winter Bunny) here! (See my DA Journal for more, or keep reading below! <3)
Hello everyone! The purpose of this journal is to spread a little awareness of my situation and to help me get back into school in the states via my GoFundMe campaign. This is a very time sensitive issue and the window of opportunity is fast coming to a close. School begins on January 8th, 2018, which is only 2 months away. So, allow me to lay out the foundations of what is happening in my little corner of the world. I want to explain exactly what has happened and what you would be donating to.
Roughly 5 years ago, I was in university, living in the States and getting very close to graduating when tragedy hit. One of my oldest and best friends was a victim of a triple homicide. The case dragged out for 8 to 9 months before it was declared a cold case, and he became another obscure black kid murdered due to gang violence that had nothing to do with him... The only information I could gather were in scattered news reports. His parents would not answer my calls... My friend, his girlfriend and her little brother were all murdered in his home. He was stabbed, and then shot down. The long and short of it is, this mentally broke my down. My roommates, (one of which is on DA) watched my mental health deteriorate and the panic attacks kicked in to high gear and every morning I woke up stricken with fear. To add to this, the funds I had to stay in school and in uni had run out. Meaning, I had to leave the country. So, with this all on my mind, I packed my bags and flew to Australia to be with my dad. 2 weeks after landing, he had a severe heart attack - a triple bypass and wound up in hospital. It was touch and go, and just as he was healing, he developed a gull blade infection, and was back in the hospital for an even longer duration of time. All money saved went out the window again, and I knew I was going to be stuck in Australia for far longer than 6 months... It has been 5 years that I have been here and in those five years we’ve had more funerals than I care to recall. I put my dreams of school on the shelf and went into survival mode and just tried to get used to the fact that I was going to stay here, possibly longer than 5 years. But the opportunity has come to me to start again. A second chance. I have been accepted into University, but the deadline for certain fees is closing. If I miss this window, I will be stuck here in Australia for another year, possibly more, and I cannot bear to think of that as my only option. My GoFundMe campaign is set up in order to help me pay for the International Student Fees that will allow me to obtain my F1 Visa. The cost for this visa is $4,000. What will this money go towards? It goes towards me and my schooling. This money is the “comfort” zone that the uni has set up for International Students and the F1 International Student Visa. The money will be put towards two semesters at school, towards my classes, tuition, books, housing, and food. The university does not keep it but uses it as a means for students like me to have a little peace of mind when we fly overseas to go to uni. So, in order for me to get my visa to enter the country, I need my F1 Visa and in order to get that, I must raise $4,000 grand. That is my target goal. Ontop of this I must also be able to pay to move to the States, and a plane ticket is not cheap. I will be lucky to be able to get there with $2,000. In total, my ideal goal is $6,000 in USD currency - but I am estimating I would be lucky and blessed just to get the $4,000 USD so that is what I am aiming for and my biggest goal at this point in time. Again, this is a time sensitive issue, and one that is causing me more sleepless nights than I care to admit. I’ve been holding art sales to try to make the difference but any money I make goes straight back to bills, rent, food, ect ect. My last big batch of commissions have cost me too much... I was severely under pricing my work, and then putting too much effort and detail into those under priced commissions and I did not realise this till I was almost out of savings and half way through commissions. Shortly after this my laptop broke down entirely. I’ve had to take it in to be fixed twice and have lost ALL my art, my files, documents, everything is gone. I’ve bene having to rebuild everything from scratch, and the cost of repairing my laptop has put a significant dent into my already depleted savings. Because of this, I cannot offer any more art sales at this time except to put food on my table... It is why I have turned to GoFundMe. And every single little bit helps, whether its $5 to $100. I want to go home. I want to see my family again and I want to see and be able to BE with my sweetheart, Quirky-Middle-Child. As most of you are aware, he and I are dating, and have been dating for the last 6 months now. And getting into Uni and getting my F1 Visa would mean that he and I can finally be together in person again as my uni is only an hour and a half away from where he lives. Reaching this goal would mean the world to both of us. At this point, we are searching for a miracle... In the meant time, I’ve been working upwards of 12 hours a day on commissions to strive to get them done so I can open a new batch and proper prices, and I admit I may charge more and explain that it is for school. Right now, we are running on a lot of faith and prayers, and as I said, every little bit helps. Whether its a donation of $5 or $1,000 or even just spreading the word, everything, everything helps at this point. So if you would like to Donate, you can find me GoFundMe link HERE

Five Years Later, HIV-Hit Town Rebounds. But The Nation Is Slow To Heed Lessons.
AUSTIN, Ind. — Ethan Howard cradled his prized Martin-brand guitar, strumming gently as he sang of happiness he thought he’d never find.
More From The Midwest Bureau
View More
With support from his family and community, the 26-year-old is making his way as a musician after emerging from the hell of addiction, disease and stigma. The former intravenous drug user was among the first of 235 people in this southern Indiana community to be diagnosed in the worst drug-fueled HIV outbreak ever to hit rural America.
Now, five years after the outbreak, Howard counts himself among the three-quarters of patients here whose HIV is so well controlled it’s undetectable, meaning they can’t spread it through sex. He’s sober in a place that has new addiction treatment centers, a syringe exchange and five times more addiction support groups than before the outbreak.
But as this city of 4,100 recovers, much of the rest of the country fails to apply its lessons. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deemed 220 U.S. counties vulnerable to similar outbreaks because of overdose death rates, the volume of prescription opioid sales and other statistics tied to injecting drugs. Yet a Kaiser Health News analysis shows that fewer than a third of them have working syringe exchanges. Such programs, which make clean needles available to drug users, have been found to reduce the spread of HIV and hepatitis C and are supported in the Trump administration’s national effort to end the HIV epidemic within a decade.
Still, local backlash often stymies efforts to start such exchanges, even in Indiana, where only nine of 92 counties have one, and with federal funding up for grabs that could help them expand. And rural places in states such as Missouri, West Virginia and Kentucky are still plagued by the raw ingredients that led to Austin’s tragedy: addiction, despair, poverty, doctor shortages and sparse drug treatment.

All this threatens to stall the administration’s HIV goals, which are championed by two prominent figures who responded to Austin’s outbreak: Indiana’s former governor Vice President Mike Pence and the former state health commissioner, Dr. Jerome Adams, now the U.S. surgeon general.
Since Austin’s 2015 crisis, drug-fueled outbreaks have occurred in more than a half-dozen other communities, some with syringe exchanges and some without.
“When you have these outbreaks, they affect other states and counties. It’s a domino effect,” said Dr. Rupa Patel, an HIV prevention researcher at Washington University in St. Louis. “We have to learn from them. Once you fall behind, you can’t catch up.”
Hard Lessons In The Heartland
Fields of corn and soybeans surround Austin, located just off Interstate 65 between Louisville, Kentucky, and Indianapolis. The city has been battered by decades of economic blows, but it retains a quaint charm, with a shop-lined, one-stoplight Main Street.
Before the outbreak, addiction to the potent opioid painkiller Opana swept through the community. People took to melting down pills and injecting them, and needle-sharing was common. Local women were caught up in sex work to pay for drugs. In some homes nearby, health officials later discovered, three generations had shot up Opana together: young adults, their parents and grandparents.
Yet help was scarce. Austin had no addiction treatment centers and just one doctor. Dwindling government funding in 2013 led Planned Parenthood in nearby Scottsburg to close after years of providing HIV testing and education.
Howard was among the first of 235 people to be diagnosed in the worst drug-fueled HIV outbreak ever to hit rural America.(Luke Sharrett for Kaiser Health News)
So, for residents like Howard, addiction led to infection with HIV. After he was prescribed the painkiller Lortab for a football injury in high school, the teen began craving opioids. Eventually, he discovered Opana, which was plentiful on the streets of Austin and surrounding Scott County.
His mom sent him for addiction treatment during his senior year, and he got sober. But after his girlfriend gave birth to a stillborn boy in 2014, he turned back to drugs. He tested positive for HIV in March 2015. He cried with his mom in her car.
That was the month after Indiana health officials said they’d identified 30 HIV cases in the county, which previously reported three within a decade. Austin was the outbreak’s epicenter.
The initial response was slow. Pence, then governor, opposed syringe exchange programs, which were illegal in Indiana. It took him 29 days after the outbreak was announced to sign an executive order allowing a state-supervised syringe program. By then, HIV cases had risen to 79.
“He waited till it was too little, too late. These needle exchanges were put into place in the most grudging manner,” said Gregg Gonsalves, an HIV researcher at Yale University. “It was a disaster that didn’t need to happen.”
Five years after Indiana’s HIV outbreak, Howard counts himself among the three-quarters of patients whose HIV is so well controlled it’s undetectable, meaning they can’t spread it through sex.(Luke Sharrett for Kaiser Health News)
Gonsalves cited a recent Brown University study that found having a syringe exchange before the outbreak could have decreased HIV incidence there by 90%. A study he led, published in 2018, estimated that simply testing for and tracking HIV when hepatitis C spiked around 2010 could have kept HIV cases there below 10.
Instead, cases skyrocketed. The rate of infection was so high that Dr. Tom Frieden, then the CDC director, said at the time Austin’s HIV incidence rate exceeded those of countries in sub-Saharan Africa. He estimated lifetime treatment costs — even before all 235 people were diagnosed — would reach $100 million.
What ultimately curbed the outbreak were solutions rooted in the community. Scott County’s syringe exchange was part of a “one-stop shop,” where people could also get drug treatment referrals, free HIV testing and other services. More people were referred to Medicaid, which had recently been expanded in Indiana. Police, health and recovery workers, community activists and faith leaders joined forces.
“More connections are being made,” said Jacob Howell, a former drug user who is now pastor of the Church of the New Covenant in Austin. “The message to other communities is to tear down your walls, put your prejudices aside.”
Surgeon General Adams said lasting change happens locally. When he traveled to Austin as Indiana’s health commissioner, he listened to the sheriff’s concerns about needles littering public property and met with church leaders to ease worries that syringe programs might enable drug use.
Dealing with the outbreak was more about relationships than science, he said during a January talk at the CATO Institute, a Washington-based free-market think tank. “I knew we’d never be successful without ensuring that those trusted community leaders and advocates were invested in part of the solution.”
Lessons Learned — And Not
Austin’s outbreak became a catalyst for action in some places. Kentucky’s legislature voted to allow syringe programs in 2015, and Ohio subsequently made it easier for local health boards to develop them. Officials said that helped them respond to a cluster of HIV cases in the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky area in 2018.
Cabell County, West Virginia, by contrast, recently pulled back on its preventive efforts.
Cabell was among counties that the CDC deemed vulnerable to an outbreak. Dr. Michael Kilkenny, physician director of the Cabell-Huntington Health Department, said Austin’s experience spurred his community to open a syringe program in September 2015 that eventually averaged between 1,000 and 1,200 visits a month.
In 2015, Austin, Indiana, was the epicenter of an HIV outbreak when 235 people tested positive for the virus.(Luke Sharrett for Kaiser Health News)
But after political backlash halted a program in nearby Charleston, Cabell imposed restrictions on its program in 2018 to stave off a similar closure. People could no longer pick up needles for others or use the exchange if they lived outside the county or the city of Huntington. Visits dropped by half.
Looking back, Kilkenny said it was “the worst time we could’ve done that.” Cabell wound up with more than 75 HIV cases, one of the biggest rural outbreaks other than the one in Austin, Indiana.
Officials then lifted the restrictions, scaled up efforts linking people to testing and treatment and launched an HIV anti-stigma campaign.
Other places on the CDC’s vulnerable counties list have so far escaped an outbreak. Missouri, for instance, has 13 vulnerable counties and a ban on syringe exchanges. Washington University’s Patel said Missouri’s failure to expand Medicaid leaves some at-risk people uninsured.
Missouri health officials said they are taking several steps to prevent HIV, such as counseling residents in vulnerable counties, providing HIV testing at health agencies and having disease intervention specialists connect people who are tested to additional help.
But legislation to allow syringe exchanges was unsuccessful in Missouri last year, as were similar bills in Iowa and Arizona.
Avoiding another HIV crisis is not rocket science, Gonsalves said. “We need to use everything we have that we know works.”
In Austin, that multipronged approach is underway as those affected reclaim their lives.
Howard is well enough that he can practice his music every day until his voice gets hoarse and his fingers hurt. He performs around the region and dreams of touring honky-tonks nationally. And he’s writing a song about moving through addiction and toward hope.
“I feel I’ve proven a lot of people wrong,” he said, fiddling with his guitar pick. “I’m making my grandpa happy and my grandma happy. They’re both in heaven now, but I know they’re proud of me.”

How Tiffany Trump’s World Diverged From Her Famous Family
Justin Sullivan/Getty Images Asked in October 2016 if she was interested in joining the family business one day, Tiffany Trump replied, “Of course I’m interested…but I’m applying to law school, though, so I like to bring a different kind of skill set to the company.” At this point, it certainly can’t hurt to have a lawyer in the family. If Tiffany is still interested in the family business at all. Raised by a single mom in California and then all of a sudden thrust into the he-has-five-kids spotlight when her father ran for president of the United States, Tiffany ended up the unwitting poster girl for privileged paternal neglect, the forgotten daughter next to favored princess Ivanka Trump. Two and a half years in, she remains a go-to punchline—not because of anything she has done, but mainly when comedians want to reiterate just how little they think of Donald Trump‘s family values. But Tiffany isn’t asking for anyone’s pity. The 25-year-old Georgetown Law student and businessman boyfriend Michael Boulos were in the south of France where the 72nd Cannes Film Festival is taking place this week, photographed at the 5-star Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic, one of the spots frequented by celebs during the reliably decadent affair. Pierre Suu/GC Images While Ivanka can now only dream of the widely admired, relatively uncontroversial life she led before the 2016 election, Tiffany has managed to avoid that level of scrutiny precisely because, famous last name aside, she didn’t grow up with her half-siblings in a gilded penthouse in Trump Tower. (For the brief period she did live there, the other kids were elsewhere with their mom.) “Since I have grown up on the West Coast, I’m definitely different from all of them growing up on the East Coast,” Tiffany told Oprah Winfrey in 2013. “It was great for me getting to grow up as a normal kid just out of the spotlight, versus all of them growing up in New York. They always had that intense media and spotlight on them.” Trump “would say that it’s really a miracle that [Tiffany] is as well-adjusted as she is, and that she’s accomplished anything,” a Trump friend told Vanity Fair‘s Emily Jane Fox, author of the 2017 book Born Trump. “He gets that he screwed it up when it came to Tiffany, and this is a man who doesn’t admit that he got it wrong on anything.” Trump himself has acknowledged that he was always working throughout his kids’ childhoods, and wasn’t a particularly hands-on dad—for the older Trump kids or for now 13-year-old Barron Trump, his son with first lady Melania Trump. But true to form, Ivanka even quibbled with his modest estimation, telling ABC News’ Barbara Walters in November 2015, “He was very available to us.” “Our times together,” added Tiffany, by then posing as a full-time member of the fold, “we’re learning, you know, playing in his office. He would always sneak me down to get a candy bar in the lobby.” (Her mother’s a health nut, so that would have been a very real treat.) John Barrett/Photolink/Mediapunch/Shutterstock Her mom, Marla Maples, married Trump in December 1993, when Tiffany was 2 months old. Howard Stern, O.J. Simpson and Rosie O’Donnell were among the 1,100 people who attended their wedding at the Plaza in New York. The real estate tycoon had been through an impressively messy split with first wife Ivana Trump, the parents of three waging a tabloid war against each other via the New York Post (his) and New York Daily News (hers) before finally reaching a divorce settlement in 1990, in which Ivana got custody of Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump. Trump hadn’t been planning to get married again, or have more children, at least not so soon. Davidoff Studios/Getty Images “I’m glad it happened,” he said on The Howard Stern Show in 2004, per old tapes acquired by Newsweek. “I have a great little daughter, Tiffany. But, you know, at the time it was like, ‘Excuse me, what happened?’ And then I said, ‘Well, what are we going to do about this?’ [Marla] said, ‘Are you serious? It’s the most beautiful day of our lives.’ I said, ‘Oh, great.'” Still, Trump called the New York Times 20 minutes after his fourth child was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Palm Beach, Fla., telling the reporter, “We have a perfect little girl, a combination in looks of both of us, to go with my three other wonderful children.” Tiffany, incidentally, is what he wanted to name his firstborn daughter, but Ivana wouldn’t hear of it. “Everything involved with Trump Tower has been successful, and Trump Tower was built with Tiffany’s air rights,” he told the Times, referring to jeweler Tiffany & Co., which was next door on 5th Avenue. “But I’ve also always loved the name.” For her husband’s 50th birthday, Marla commissioned an oil painting of Trump with all four of his children to replace one he had of just him with Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric that hung in his office. The new one featured little Tiffany sitting in Ivanka’s lap. Trump and Maples separated in 1997 but were still technically married when Trump met future first lady Melania Knauss at a nightclub in 1998, the divorce taking years to figure out because Maples was contesting their prenuptial agreement (as Ivana did before her), which had promised her between $1 million and $5 million if they split up before reaching five years of marriage. “It’s a hard, painful, ugly tool,” Trump later reflected to New York Magazine about prenups. “Believe me, there’s nothing fun about it. But there comes a time when you have to say, ‘Darling, I think you’re magnificent, and I care for you deeply, but if things don’t work out, this is what you’re going to get.'” (He and Melania did sign one as well.) Before the divorce was finalized in 1999 (reportedly for about $2 million plus child support), Maples, an actress, model and former beauty queen, relocated with Tiffany to California, where she scored the occasional acting job, but mainly juggled hosting gigs and embraced wellness and spirituality, eventually having her own radio show, Awakening With Marla. “We settled into a really beautiful life in Los Angeles where we went to church, the Kabbalah Center, school, soccer, basketball and everything for her to be able to live in a world where she would not necessarily be recognized as the daughter of Donald Trump and Marla Maples,” Maples told Healthy Wealthy nWise. “My goal for her was to let her do as I was longing to do; to find her own identity and her own self. We pulled away from that world in a big way and moved out to a suburb in Los Angeles. I cooked dinner five nights out of the week. The other two nights we loved sushi, so we’d be out having sushi. It was really all about getting that little girl to school every morning. I would get to the gym and do my workouts, and then my work would begin.” Davidoff Studios/Getty Images Tiffany mainly visited with her dad (and future stepmom Melania) at Mar-a-Lago on her spring breaks, and occasionally in New York, while Trump would fly out to Los Angeles for important school events, or see her when he was in town on business. “She’d like to get to know her father better and spend time with him like his other children did,” Maples told the New York Times in 2016, “by going to his office and watching him work. Only now, he’s not in the office anymore. He’s on the campaign trail.” She added, “I had the blessing of raising her pretty much on my own.” (Ivana Trump, too, has commented to that effect, that she raised the kids till they were 21 and then handed them off to their father and his business, the two inextricably linked.) Tiffany has always been exceptionally close to her mom, telling Winfrey in 2013, “My friends are always like, ‘Wow, you guys have a really good relationship.’ She’s with me a lot of the time and people find that kind of shocking.” On this past Mother’s Day, Tiffany wrote on Instagram, which boasts numerous photos of her and Maples, “Thank you @itsmarlamaples for being there for me always and guiding me throughout my life! I wouldn’t be where I am today without your unconditional love!” “She’s a great girl. She is full of a lot of love,” Maples told Healthy Wealthy nWise about her then-15-year-old daughter in 2009. “Now she wants to start on her career path, so we’re working on her music. She’s starred in a couple of plays. She did a fantastic job. It’s my career and it’s her career, with a lot of loving times in between. She knows that’s the core.” In her 2009 book The Trump Card (dedicated in part to Tiffany and Barron, “the next generation”), in an anecdote about how none of them took their family’s wealth for granted, Ivanka recalled Tiffany coming to her for advice the previous Christmas about how to talk to their dad about acquiring some extra spending money—nothing too outrageous, Ivanka noted, just a raise in her allowance. Because she hadn’t spent nearly as much time around their father as her other siblings had, Tiffany understandably hadn’t benefited from Trump’s largess as much, “just by virtue of lack of proximity.” Knowing Tiffany was nervous about asking, “Big Sis did an end-around to save Tiffany the trouble,” Ivanka wrote. “I didn’t tell her, of course, but I went to our father and suggested he think about surprising Tiffany with a credit card for Christmas, with a small monthly allowance on it. Sure enough, he did just that. Tiffany was thrilled and relieved. And appreciative.” MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images Though not seeing her dad all that much meant she probably saw her siblings less, Tiffany was one of Ivanka’s bridesmaids, along with Don Jr.’s then-wife Vanessa, when she married Jared Kushner in 2009. Ivanka also helped Tiffany get a summer internship at Vogue in 2015. “We would see each other on all of the holidays and talk to each other frequently,” Ivanka told People in 2016. “She’s my little sister! I’ve been close to Tiffany her whole life, and I really love her.” But she paid Tiffany the ultimate Trump compliment while talking to the New York Times: “Tiffany has always been a very special person, very confident, very driven, always the hardest worker and not bashful about it. A lot of people are happy to get by without doing a lot of work, or work hard and pretend they don’t. She is proud of her work.” For Big Sis’ birthday last fall, Tiffany wrote on Instagram (a few days later), “Wishing my big sister and best friend a happy birthday (sorry for the late post, but you know my law school life haha) I love you so much!” Tiffany may have inherited the performance gene from her mom—she recorded a dance-pop tune in 2011 called “Like a Bird” with rapper Logiq and once told Oprah she was considering pursuing music as a career—but after graduation from the private Viewpoint School in Calabasas, Calif., she chose to attend her father’s alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania. She started college in 2012, just as her father, who had become more famous than ever as host of The Apprentice, started publicly questioning whether or not President Barack Obama was really born in the United States. Dad becoming what’s known as a “birther” didn’t do anything to help the Trump name on the Ivy League campus, but Tiffany’s spot in her privileged social circle—her group of friends was nicknamed the “Snap Pack” for all the chronicling they did of their highbrow exploits on social media—was not threatened. She never appeared on her dad’s reality show, but she and her friends were approached about doing their own. “It’s easy money…” Tiffany commented to DuJour in explaining why they never accepted the offer. “But,” interjected her pal Gaïa Jacquet-Marisse (great-great granddaughter of artist Henri Matisse), “it conflicts so much with all of our different personal goals. Besides, it’s not about money or fame. It’s about our friendships. It’s about us being f–king amazing people and loving each other.” Tiffany graduated from Penn in 2016 with degrees in Sociology, concentrating in Law & Society, and Urban Studies. By then, the ducklings had fallen into line. Richard Drew/AP/REX/Shutterstock “He’s true to himself and he speaks in a way that the average person can understand,” Tiffany told Barbara Walters in 2015 when Walters asked Trump’s four adult children if their dad had said—during what was then only five months on the campaign trail—anything that had made them cringe. “I think that’s refreshing for everyone.” (Eric Trump had immediately answered, “Truthfully, no.”) The least talked-about Trump child told Walters, “It’s all I know. I’m so happy to be Tiffany Trump. I’m so happy to be, you know, in the family I’m in, with my siblings and my father and my mother.” Melania gave only a handful of interviews before (and since) the election. As the campaign got increasingly ugly, it was left largely to Ivanka, Don Jr. and Eric to talk to the press, much of which involved defending whatever their father had said or tweeted on any given day. But Tiffany did join all of them in giving a solo speech at the Republican National Convention in July 2016 in Cleveland. She didn’t have all that many applicable warm and fuzzy anecdotes to share, but she said her father used to write “sweet notes” on her report cards, and she had kept them all. In an email to the New York Times in October 2016, when asked about his younger daughter, Trump wrote, “Tiffany is a tremendous young woman with a big and beautiful heart. She was always a great student and a very popular person no matter where she went. I am incredibly proud of Tiffany and how well she has done.” In the meantime, Tiffany’s mom praised her daughter for the way in which she was handling being in the public eye. Michael Bocchieri/Getty Images “She is able to step in there and be her true self who loves her mother and her father and her family,” Maples told People in the spring of 2016, while she was competing on Dancing With the Stars. “Having raised her, I knew she would ultimately have a public life. But watching her sit there in that arena [during a recent Trump Town Hall] with that much pressure on her and see how the love we have shared through the years has shaped her. She has become a woman. I could not have been more proud of her.” And then, unexpectedly for most, Trump won the election, and Tiffany became a first daughter—just like Ivanka, only without the heavy expectations and, therefore, without all the blowback from Trump critics. Win McNamee/Getty Images Marla, who also attended the nominating convention in the summer of 2016, was in Washington D.C. to support Tiffany during all the inauguration festivities, the surprise culmination of the interminable presidential race, and where she shared spotlight after spotlight with her siblings. Tiffany, perhaps because she was with a boyfriend and not a spouse, stayed the night after the Jan. 20 inauguration ball at Trump International Hotel in D.C., rather than at the White House with everybody else. The inauguration was on a Friday, and by Sunday everyone except for Ivanka and Jared, who had already moved to Washington, went back to New York. That included Melania, who stayed with Barron at Trump Tower until his school year ended before moving into the White House full-time. Meanwhile, like her siblings, Tiffany has had a Secret Service detail since before the election, albeit a smaller one than father of five Don Jr. and mother of three Ivanka. A patron of trendy East Hampton café the Golden Pear told Born Trump author Emily Jane Fox that, compared to how customers reacted when Chelsea Clinton walked in one day with her detail in the 1990s, Tiffany showing up with her boyfriend in May 2017 was a nonevent. “The world basically stopped” when Chelsea was there, the customer said. “For Tiffany, no one really noticed, and the people who did were intentionally looking the opposite direction.” Someone approached to ask if he could use an extra chair at her table, and not even her security blinked. To this day, Tiffany and Barron’s code names remain unreported, while Ivanka, Don Jr. and Eric are, respectively, Marvel, Mountaineer and Marksman. Melania is Muse. But since it’s impossible for the first lady or other first daughter to do anything normal out in public, shouldn’t Tiffany be relieved that she can more or less do as she pleases? Last summer, for instance, she went to London and then hung out with Lindsay Lohan in Mykonos, where the Mean Girls star was getting her MTV reality show Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club off the ground. (Lohan, incidentally, has been more complimentary toward Tiffany’s father than some, tweeting in July 2017, “THIS IS our president. Stop #bullying him & start trusting him. Thank you personally for supporting #THEUSthat people should support their president.”) Tiffany and Boulos, whom she reportedly met in Greece, also vacationed earlier this year in Phuket and, this week, she looked to be living her best life in Cannes. “Tiffany is happy she has so far been able to keep things with Michael under the radar,” a source told Page Six in November about her relationship with Boulos, who is of Lebanese descent and grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, where his wealthy family does business. “But she introduced him to her family at Thanksgiving, and he comes across as a very intelligent young man from a great family. There was no mention of the president’s unfortunate comment about African nations.” As a student at Georgetown Law, one who longingly posts throwback pics from her summer vacation while hunkered down at the library, just like anybody else would, Tiffany once again lives near her dad and certainly seems to be making the most of the proximity. On Instagram she posted photos of herself and Boulos in front of the Christmas tree in the White House’s Red Room and visiting Mar-a-Lago for Easter. Jean-Paul Aussenard/WireImage Tiffany told People in 2017, “I think regardless of distance, I don’t think that dictates any relationship strains. I really have an emotional bond with him and he was always just the funniest, most loving father.” But in April 2018, insiders told People that Tiffany, after growing closer to her father on the campaign trail, once again felt like a second-tier Trump kid. “Since the inauguration, Tiffany and her father have sometimes gone for months without speaking and she went a very long time without seeing him,” a source close to her said. “The last time she was at a family function with him, it was awkward for her and she didn’t feel totally welcome.” (The White House didn’t comment.) Another source said that their relationship wasn’t bad, it was just different than his connection with the other kids, due mainly to her growing up on the opposite side of the country. Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images And just as people have wondered about Melania and Ivanka’s true political leanings—not as much lately, but a lot at first—Tiffany has been the subject of the same sort of speculation. Her date to Trump’s inauguration was then-boyfriend Ross Mechanic, a registered Democrat who she met at Penn—and whose real-estate attorney father donated thousands to Hillary Clinton‘s presidential campaign, according to the New York Daily News. They dated for two years before breaking up toward the end of 2017, when she moved to D.C. for law school. A source insisted to Page Six that it was a geographical, rather than a political, issue, noting that Mechanic lived in New York. Toni L. Sandys/The Washington Post via Getty Images And though she can buy an iced coffee without causing a stir, it did not go unnoticed when Tiffany “liked” an Instagram post featuring several photos from the March for Our Lives rally for gun control in D.C. last year, with the caption, “Next massacre will be the GOP in the midterm elections.” And at the State of the Union in February, her all-white ensemble prompted speculation that she was dressed in solidarity with the sea of Democratic congresswomen also wearing white. But Tiffany wears white a lot, and she has been careful to not actually say or tweet anything that contradicts what her family seems to stand for these days. Her “I just voted” post in 2016 included the hashtag “#TrumpTrain” as one might expect, but even in 2014 she tagged a voting post with “@pennvotered,” seemingly a nod to voting Republican. Late last year, she shared a photo on Instagram Story of herself and a friend checking out the game Trumped Up Cards—a Cards Against Humanity-style word-association game “For People With Big Hands”—at a Georgetown bar. And while that raised some eyebrows among those hoping for a sign of anti-Trump life in the universe, she may as well have been wearing a jacket that said, “I really don’t care, do u?” https://www.eonline.com/news/1043254/how-tiffany-trump-s-world-diverged-from-her-famous-family?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-topstories&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=rss_topstories The post How Tiffany Trump’s World Diverged From Her Famous Family appeared first on Top Of The World. https://kartiavelino.com/how-tiffany-trumps-world-diverged-from-her-famous-family/

Career-hopping may be a millennial's game. But for 56-year-old Richard Silver, it's never too late to quit your job in pursuit of happiness and fulfillment.
Silver was making six figures as a real estate broker for the Corcoran Group in New York City in 2011 when he decided to quit and follow his passion as a travel photographer full-time. While many people his age might have been saving for retirement, Silver entered his 50s by selling his Manhattan apartment, storing his belongings with friends and seeing the world. He's visited 72 countries since then (favorites include Myanmar, Bolivia, Russia, Spain and Thailand).
"I know I'm an anomaly. There's not many people changing careers at this age," Silver tells CNBC Make It. "I'm young at heart and spirit…. My energy level is that of a teenager."

Silver isn't a stranger to taking risks with his career. He's been a stockbroker, a family beer business owner and a real estate broker. He says he took a big pay cut when he left real estate for photography — earning on average 80 to 90 percent less — but his happiness, lifestyle and health outweigh a large salary.
In October 2016, Silver signed up for Remote Year, a 12-month program that supports professionals who wish to work while traveling.

For $27,000, the program provides accommodations, transportation and co-working spaces in the cities on the itinerary. Most of the other 77 participants in the program were in their 20s and 30s. But that didn't stop Silver, who has visited over 40 countries in the last year and a half.
To make his dream of being a travel photographer a reality, Silver says careful planning was a must. Here is Silver's best advice for quitting your past life to pursue your passion.
Test out your new idea before quitting
Do your homework on the new industry before you leave your current job. Using the security of a steady paycheck allows you to to build out your side hustle and take risks you wouldn't normally take.
Silver began to seriously pursue photography during his last couple of years working in real estate. His job as a broker allowed him time to travel, so he began building a photography portfolio and gauging whether he could make a living off his photographs.

Silver has been able to get his travel photography into galleries around the world
He connected with a few galleries and eventually caught a break with Lumas, a German-based art company with galleries around the world.
"It gave me the confidence to see that I can make some money with photography," Silver says.
Have some money in the bank

Before quitting and embarking on a new career path, make sure you have some money saved up. Your new venture may take some time to turn a profit, or it may not pay as much as your current job, as Silver experienced.
A good rule of thumb is to save three to six months' worth of your fixed living expenses before making the leap, says Megan Lathrop, a Capital One money coach and career workshops co-lead. Some financial experts advise having even more set aside for the unexpected. Suze Orman, financial expert and former CNBC television host, recommends having at least eight to 12 months' worth of living expenses saved.
Honestly assess your expenses and lifestyle and weigh that against how much you estimate your new gig will pay. For Silver, he knew his income would be much lower as a photographer than it was as a real estate broker, so he knew he would need to dip into his savings to finance his lifestyle.
"I'm at the mindset where I don't mind going through my savings to live my life," Silver says.
Asked about his retirement plans, Silver says he hasn't given much thought to it. "I've been a 'wing and a prayer' person for many years now and that's my game plan for my future too," he writes in an email.
"I know not so smart especially since I come from a financial background…. If I had to I could easily live in Southeast Asia on the cheap for many years and it's beautiful there too."
Courtesy of Richard Silver
Don't leave your other career in turmoil so you can't go back
Even if you're leaving a job you despise, it's important that you exit on good terms with your boss and colleagues. While it may be tempting to make like the flight attendant who announced he quit over a plane's PA system and escaped down the inflatable emergency slide, a professional, thoughtful resignation will go a long way toward planning for your future.
You may need to return to your old career if the new one doesn't work out. Maybe you'll need a reference from your boss somewhere down the line. Bestselling management author and CNBC contributor Suzy Welch says it's important to never quit a job in a way that could "haunt your career for years to come."
"It's good manners to leave gracefully," she says. "It's smart business to leave generously."
When Silver left real estate, he says he wanted to keep the door open in case he ever decided to return. That meant keeping his broker license active by taking continuing education every two years.
And while you're at it, Silver recommends a polite, responsible exit from the other parts of your life as well.
"Don't say to your landlord, 'I'm leaving tomorrow…. The heck with you,'" he says. "Don't do it like that."
Silver is single, has never married and has no kids — "No obligation to any other human beings except myself," he says — which has allowed him to live his nomadic lifestyle. But he still believes in building a network for yourself.

"Make sure you have good friends and family who can help you out just in case," Silver says.
When he packed up and left his life behind in New York, he stored his furniture with friends in Manhattan and the Hamptons, and he left his clothes in a friend's basement.
As he wraps up his current trip abroad, Silver says he plans to spend the summer at his mom's in Florida before he takes off on his next adventure and continues traveling "till the day I die."
Making the leap to change up your career and lifestyle can be daunting, but with some thoughtful planning and preparation, Silver asks, "What's the worst that can happen?"
"If I can do it at my age, anybody can do it," he says. "Just do it. If you don't like it, guess what? Go home. Go back. What's the big deal? And do not, do not look at it as a failure."
___________________________________________________
As Richard Silver states at the end of this article. What is the big deal if it does not work out or you do not like it?
At least you will have found out.
And as he says it does not matter what your age is. It does not matter what your background is. It does not matter what your skills are. The only thing that matters is your desire to chase after it and give it all you have.
Would you like to find out how you can possibly do this? Start by downloading my free ebook and then sign up for the webinar happening in late Jan of 2019.

Online database of national bank presidents, cashiers debuts
Andrew Pollock
By Peter Huntoon
The August 26, 2018, issue of The E-Sylum, the online weekly publication of the Numismatic Bibliomania Society edited by Wayne Homren, contained an announcement from Newman Numismatic Portal project coordinator Len Augsburger that the portal had just received a huge accession from Andrew Pollock III pertaining to National Bank Notes.
The announcement revealed that Pollock had compiled a complete yearly listing of the bank presidents and cashiers that he abstracted from the annual reports of the Comptroller of the Currency for all 14,348 national banks chartered through 1935.
Whoa, this was beyond belief! National Bank Note collectors have been dreaming about a compilation of that data for decades, but the task was so huge that it had never been accomplished.
I immediately logged on to the portal and, with a little guidance from Augsburger, was able to access this trove. Here is how to do it.
Start on this page: https://archive.org/details/NationalBankSpreadsheetsGuide
In the right-hand column, about half way down, select “zip.”
A large (31MB) zip file will download to your computer. It takes a minute or more. Depending on your operating system you should be able to examine the data directly after downloading (some earlier versions of Windows may require “unzip” first).
Andrew Pollock completed a yearly listing of bank presidents and cashiers for all 14,348 national banks, including this one from Keene, N.H.
I couldn’t believe it – there it was. Not only did Pollock list the presidents and cashiers, he also included the all-important annual total bank resources and circulations.
This compilation ranks right up there with Louis Van Belkum’s compilation of the bank-by-bank National Bank Note issuance and summary bank history information that comprises the cores of the Hickman-Oakes and Kelly catalogs.
I had not run across Pollock, so my curiosity was seriously piqued. I immediately asked Augsburger to forward an email to him and was rewarded with a cordial response on Aug. 27, which also happened to be my birthday. Obtaining this information and “meeting” the compiler ranks as the most splendid birthday present of my 76 years. The following is a verbatim transcript of his first reply:
“Thanks so much for your interest in my national bank research. I’d be delighted for you to publicize this work. I regard this work as a simple compilation and open source, so it’s free for all to use any way they wish.
“I collected coins as a child, and during the 1970s and 1980s, built up a decent numismatic library covering coins, tokens, medals, paper money, mint histories, etc. I landed a job with Bowers and Merena in 1987, and spent approximately 25 years working for the company and its successors.
“I’m now 63 and retired, and spend about 80 hours a week pouring over original source documents available online with a view to eventually publishing a series of volumes on national banks to serve as companion material to standard references on national bank notes.”
I knew the source he was mining. He was looking at digital scans of the annual reports of the Comptroller of the Currency that are available through the fabulous FRASER digital library maintained by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. FRASER is the acronym for Federal Reserve Archival System for Economic Research reached via https://fraser.stlouisfed.org/
This fellow had abstracted the data from scans of 73 volumes that take up 15.5 feet of shelf space in my library. Beyond belief! I had to learn more. I quickly followed up with more questions.
I asked,“In a nutshell, how did you actually distill the data in your spreadsheets. I understand that you mined the Comptroller reports on FRASER but it took serious computer skills to abstract the relevant data from those scans. Give me a thumbnail sketch of the process.”
His answer startled me:
“No special computer skills; I just manually copied the data from the reports into Excel spreadsheets by simple data entry, and usually had a daily target of about 500 listings. There was a separate spreadsheet for each year from 1865 through 1935 (excepting 1885, as bank statements were evidently omitted in that year). I started with 1867, and once this was complete, I used it as a template for the 1868 spreadsheet, making changes as needed. The same process was used for all the other annual spreadsheets through till 1935 inclusive. Originally, these annual spreadsheets omitted the numerical bank statistics (bank assets and NBN circulation), which were added later.”
I then asked, “Are you a collector of nationals, and if not, what drew your interest to these data?”
“I don’t collect nationals, but was attracted to the project when I became aware of the vast online resources (all original source materials) pertaining to the topic. I like long-term research projects, so this was ‘right up my alley’ so to speak.”
There we have it. The fellow spent three years, up to 80 hours per week, usually adding 500 entries per day, to get this enormous job done. The total number of entries in his file is 502,460 – that’s half a million, folks. Why? Because he enjoys compiling data from original sources for other people to use and enjoy. Much more on that below.
Here are some facts. A few serious National Bank Note collectors began the process of compiling these data, and some got quite far into the project. Andrew Shiva of the National Currency Foundation set a goal of doing this job as a priority several years ago and employed help to do it. That attempt fizzled, as did similar undertakings by others, because the people burned out. The job became overwhelming once they bogged down in the middle years when the number of operating banks surged from over 3,000 to over 8,000 banks. Remember, they faced writing a spreadsheet line for every one of those banks for every remaining year.
As soon as I realized that Pollock had succeeded, I knew we were dealing with an incredibly disciplined, dedicated, and determined individual. Not only that, he was a masochist. And for what? He doesn’t even have a dog in this National Bank Note fight!
But this isn’t the end of this man’s story. He has been compiling authoritative lists of data and maintaining websites for much of his life. Let me introduce you to the ones I know about.
He is the author of two books.
Advertisement Index to the Boston Newsletter and Massachusetts Gazette, 1704-1776. Heritage Books CD-ROM. 2001. This index features approximately 10,000-12,000 alphabetically-listed entries for individuals, businesses, ships, etc. incorporating historical and biographical information gleaned from an estimated 50,000-60,000 advertisements. Nearly 3,700 pages.
United States Patterns and Related Issues. This is the standard reference book on experimental U.S. coins issued from 1792 to circa 1979. Over 500 pages.
Pollock has created websites on a variety of numismatic, religious and ornithology topics. The first two in this list are the most popular.
Numismalink Directory (http://www.numismalink.com) is a classified directory of internet resources pertaining to rare coins, medals, tokens, and paper money. It profiles numismatic bibliographic resources, organizations, and educational sites. His list of links to world mints is the most comprehensive anywhere.
Deo est Gloria Directory of Religious Life Communities (http://www.deoestgloria.com) is a directory of Roman Catholic religious life communities, one of the largest online directories of monasteries and religious orders in the English-speaking world with more than 1,800 listings.
Numismatic Register: The 17th-Century Coinage of Massachusetts, Maryland, and the Sommer Islands (http://www.coinfacts.com/Administrative/numismatic_register_colonials.htm).
Numismatic Register: Bechtler Gold Coins (http://www.coinfacts.com/numismatic_registers/bechtler_gold_coins_register.htm).
Numismatic Register: US Half Dollars, 1794-1797 (http://www.coinfacts.com/Administrative/numismatic_registers/half_dollars_1794_to_1797.htm).
Index of Harvard Graduates and Attendees Mentioned in Sibley’s Harvard Graduates, Volumes I Through XVIII, classes from 1642 through 1774 (http://www.numismalink.com/sibley.index.pdf).
Binomial and Trinomial Index to the Auk, 1884-1940 (Ornithology). (http://www.numismalink.com/auk.index.html).
Pollock earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at Worchester Polytechnic Institute in 1979, then worked as a chemical technician for several years until joining Bowers & Merena in 1987. During his pre-numismatic career, he worked for Badger, a division of Raytheon, in Weymouth, Mass., from 1980 to 1983 in their process development department.
He resumed schooling, this time at the University of Kentucky, to study biology between 1983 and 1984, then returned to Quincy, Mass., to work for H. V. Shuster evaluating pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, and other consumer products between 1985 and 1987. Then it was on to Bowers & Merena.
Juggling work and study before leaving Bowers & Merena, he then earned his Masters of Library Sciences degree from Simmons College in 1999 and in 2000-2001 served as the archivist at the Kingston Public Library in southeastern Massachusetts, where he oversaw the local history room and created findings aids for some of the repository’s collections. He now resides in New Hampshire.
He has just established himself as a giant in the field of National Bank Note currency.

Of the above-mentioned dozens of skills, I would estimate explosive jumping ability at the last of the list. The subsequent list will explain cause players misapplication their point pursuing the goal to be a great jumper.1. Joey goingson is a household style in basketball, isn't he? No, of course he isn't. modern fact, I doubt if you've consistently heard of him. Conscience of America.
The matter goes to be about some events which have become a part of the history long ago, so the events well-known and examined thoroughly. At the time of the American Civil War the president Abraham Lincoln said once: "This little women has launched the grand war". The "little woman" was implied Harriet Beecher Stowe who had written the well-known novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin". These Lincoln words one can well take for an established fact, because Linkoln was not a man who would say some nonsense publicly. And the fact was interesting very much: it indicates that the people had still a conscience. They were so outraged by slavery and maltreatment of slaves, that they preferred to be involved in the war and to fight for liberation of the slaves instead of turning a blind eye to what was happening and continue to live peacefully, as if nothing had happened. At the other end of the Earth, a century later, another book was written, a greater volume, which describes even more dire cases dealing with people, even more inhuman brutality and the quantity of the victims were estimated at the tens of millions. The book was written by well-known writer Solzhenitsyn and it is entitled "The Gulag Archipelago". And what was the reaction from the people, from the great bulk of the people? Surely, the pacifists could sleep in peace: no war followed. Even if the book and provoked a noble and righteous indignation, then only few people thought so. On the whole it was a reaction of pig: it grunted, farted, and went on. One would object to me that now it is another time. Well! Let us take others two examples from XX century. In the sixties, the people of South Vietnam fought against the Communists bursting from the north, who were already celebrated by their meanness and brutality. The army of USA gave military help to the people of South Vietnam. It seemed that all is right but the conscription was still forced, owing to the legacy of the dark past. American fellows struggled boldly against the forced conscription. The disobedience, the indignation and the resistance to the power - all this was on a mass scale. And they reached their goal. Since 1973 the forced conscription was revoked. And what about USSR? It was 6 year later, that is evident not enough to have an argument that other time have come and USSR brought his troops into Afghanistan with a view to killing the Mussulmans and to spreading his notorious communism, his satanic ideology. The forced conscription was still not revoked, as opposed to USA. It is not revoked up till now. Was not there a resistance from the part of Soviet fellows, was it? No it was not. The went to kill into Afghanistan submissively, as sheeps. There was no objections, no dissatisfactions. One can discount certain single instances. Somebody can say me, that it was terrible to resister against power that years. It is really, every manifestation of the conscience in the USSR was estimated as a madness, as a manifestation of the schizophrenia and somebody who refused to take part in a military aggression by reason of the personal convictions, it is most probably, he would be taken to madhouse, not to jail. But all the point is that to go in Afghanistan submissively was not more safely. Also, a resistance against power would not was a self-sacrifice, but the choice one evil of two ones. However the soviet people chose from two evils the meanest and the dirtiest. Now about the war in Ichkeria (Chechnya), which has placed all the points above "i" for the clarity's sake who is who, and here is the essence: the war had proved, that the same criminals continue to run the show in Russia, who had seized power in 1917, but now they call themselves in a different way. And certain honest persons were found, who had joined the Chechen resistence and fought bravely on its side against the pro-Soviet neofascists. What were these persons from? They were from the Baltic States and West Ukraine on the whole. To say that there was not people filing sympathy for the Chechens in Russia, it would be to say an untruth. But what they could do? Could they go to Grozny, pull passersby's sleeve and ask them: "And where one recruits volunteers here to fight against the federal forces?" This way is obviously inadmissible, because one would can run into any provocation of the special services. Only one military pilot is well-known, sacrificing his own career, refusing to bomb the inhabited quarters of the city Grozny. To the point this is whom one had better to decorate with the order "Hero of Russia". But these rare exceptions only confirm the rule that in Russia the people is corrupted greatly and not only in Russia. Peoples are corrupted everywhere, where the communists had played the master. In the Baltic States and in the West Ukraine they had played the master in a lesser measure, therefore they had not time to defile so the mentality of these peoples. And in the USA the communists were never, one can explain only by this fact the honestly and the freethinking of Americans. What is America? This is a part of the Great European civilisation. This civilization spread outside the limits of Europe long ago. One may attribute to it the USA, Canada and even Japan which differs from Europe much more than Russia, however its people had become to be able to live like human beings. So be aware: if somebody says to you that the Russians are different and they are not ables to live like Europeans peoples do - one deceives you. If more differing Japan is able so to live, then Russia would be able too. And why is the European civilisation good? There were not fewer problems and it is enough possible more ones in the Middle Ages, than in other world. The answer is simple and clear: because it was found that in Europe one is able to resolve these problems and without any bloody revolutions, without any delirious ideas of the Marxism-Leninism, leading to a precipice. If somebody is not lucky or somebody doubts in it - well, attempt to live in Russia, not as a guest of honour but as an ordinary citizen. If after this you write a truthful book, then the book will bring a certain measure of a public benefit for all the humanity. And I have spent in Russia all my life and estimate: still the European civilisation is existing, still America which can protect it, is existing, the humanity has a hope of better and a reason for the optimism.

Melco's Billionaire Ho Sees Macau Gaming Returning to Peak
Macau, the arena’s largest gaming middle, will go back to its top in the next 5 years, stated Melco Motels & Enjoyment Ltd.’s billionaire Chairman Lawrence Ho.
Ho, who’s also vying for an online casino license in Japan, is “extremely bullish” on Macau, he said in an interview on Bloomberg Television with Haslinda Amin.
“Clearly in the subsequent 5 years, it’ll grow lower back to the $forty-five billion gaming marketplace,” said Ho, who also serves as chief govt officer. “And that’s just the gaming by myself, due to the fact the non-gaming element is significant.”
Ho’s projection is one of the most upbeat for Macau’s gaming industry, which reached its maximum annual height in 2013. The enterprise then struggled as high-stakes games stayed far away from China’s sole gaming hub amid Beijing’s corruption crackdown. The enterprise’s recuperation is now gaining traction, with gaming receipts in April rising for a ninth consecutive month.
Macau’s April online casino receipts rose 16.three percentage to 20.2 billion patacas ($2.52 billion)
Beating the median analysts’ estimate of a 15 percentage rise. April’s gain was the 1/3 consecutive month of double-digit growth for the enterprise. Casinos such as Melco and Las Vegas Sands Corp. Have shifted focus to attract casual gamblers and families, whilst excessive rollers have also returned to the tables in current months.
Ho’s $forty-five billion projection for the industry is a “manageable goal for Macau,” stated analyst Furnish Govertsen of Union Gaming Organization LLC. The healing’s sustainability will hinge on persevered, robust increase within the mass market phase that draws casual gamblers.
That sort of growth would imply around 10 percent common annual increase, which feels realistic at this factor,” said Govertsen. “The coolest information for Macau is that the authorities have anointed mass market as the destiny of Macau, and we might assume as a minimum a few stage of guide going ahead to make certain mass remains the direction Macau is headed.”
The performance of Macau’s casino stocks replicates the optimism. Bloomberg Intelligence’s index of Macau gaming stocks has expanded 22 percentage this yr, compared with the 12 percent gain in the benchmark Grasp Seng Index. stocks of recent-York indexed Melco have jumped forty-one percentage this 12 months, at the same time as the Nasdaq Composite has won thirteen percentage.

The document specifically stated that William would have to watch for three months and he could get hold of his part of the accept as true with then. But, the legal professional had been instructed no longer to examine the relaxation to William till the three months had ended.

Your grandfather wishes you to Las Vegas, Nevada to a place referred to as The cash Picker, wherein he would receive 5 hundred million dollars in cash. William turned into so excited that once he stopped speaking to the lawyer, he called the airlines to make a reservation for Las Vegas.

William distrusted him and lied, saying he become there to gamble. The cabbie with a NY accent stated, “That’s a closely guarded place… Gots lots cash! William didn’t say something as he felt greed hit an all-time excessive. numerous miles later, the taxi stopped in front of the money Picker. After paying the cabbie, William examined the building which gave the impression of a fort. He stepped up to the vault-like door and knocked. An intercom became on and a deep voice said, “Who is it?”

This is Your Podcast Wake Up Call
Here it is 2017. Congratulations you made it through another year. Some of you were going to start podcasting last year, some of you go back to 2015. Some of you, are going back even further. Today I want to give you some ideas and strategies to launching your first podcast.
What Do You Need To Start Your Podcast
An idea
A microphone
A media host
A website (optional, but STRONGLY encouraged)
Some artwork for iTunes
A description
To get into itunes you need one live episode.
Take A Mulligan
So here is a strategy that some people on accident, and you can do on purpose. I call it "The Mulligan." This comes from golf. When you hit a bad shot, you call that shot your mulligan, and you throw down your new ball and swing again. It is basically a do over. Some very popular podcasters like Hall of Fame Podcaster Mignon Fogherty, Lauria Petruci, even Adam Curry (who helped invent podcasting) didn't hit pay dirt till he was on his THIRD podcast. So start a podcast about anything, it doesn't. You could do a podcast about the weather in your city, just to go through the motions and learn the tech. Once you've got it down, cancel everything, delete all the files, and go back and do one for real. Take a mulligan on purpose.
When I played in bands, often the best recordings were the one where the engineer told us he wasn't recording. There was no pressure we were just doing a sound check. With no pressure we often would come up with a great "take" and end the song and say "I wish we would've recorded that" (and luckily in some cases they did). If you start out with a show you don't care about you can get a show up and see it really doesn't take that much to record and publish a show. (Getting people to listen is really the hard part).
What About The Expense?
I graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor's Degree in Education specializing in Technical Education. Just the books for a semester are an estimated $450. The actual classes are $5473 semester (typically three months) if you're going full time (Source). When you sink $100-$300 into a podcast (FOR A LIFETIME), that is a small investment. Moving forward your will be spending $30 a month (typically). Cut out a few sodas and snicker's bars and you've got your money. Keep in mind, The money you are spending is an investment in you.
But What If You Want To Actually Take a Real Swing?
You've probably heard about S.M.A.R.T. Goals. This stands for
Specific Measurable Actionable Realistic Time Bound
So instead of "I want to start a podcast." You need to get more specific.
I want to start a podcast about Raising Llamas . This is more specific, but I'd like a little more specifics and some time.
I will Google other Llama podcasts to see what names might be available by January 15th.
Michael Hyatt (one of my favorite Authors - I read Platform every January) has a "Best Year Ever" course and he throws in two more items.
Exciting - You wouldn't set a goal that bores you.
Relevant - I'm going to do a daily show, even though I have two jobs, a wife, and a set of twins.
By adding these two, you are creating smarter goals.
Why Should I Podcast?
You have something to say: You're yelling at the dashboard in the car, or swearing outloud in the super market as you think, "ugh I could do this better.." Here are some more.
You want to be seen as an expert
You want to reach a global audience
You want to build a community
You want to sharpen your presentation skills
You want to build your brand
You want to promote your products
You want to boost your speaking career
You want to have fun with like minded people
You want to make some additional income.
But, But, But, But......
I'm not sure exactly what format. - - Your Podcast is a recipe - not a statue
I hate my voice - This is normal as your are hearing your voice for the first time through your ears (only) with no vibrations from your skull.
I'm not a nerd - Yet you attach files to emails, turn down the volume in the car, press record on the DVR (so you know file management, audio mixing, and recording)
I might look stupid - It's not radio. It's not live. The only way you will sound stupid is if you release something that sounds stupid.
People might say negative things - Every day people say negative things about your driving, etc. Yet you still drive. Don't let your fear stop you from doing the thing you love.
Did you give out presents this year at Christmas? We are not always 100% sure they were going to be loved? Yet, we give them anyway.
Here is a little truth, when you first start, nobody is listening anyway.
Don't think about the thousands of people listening (cause it's not ) think about talking to ONE person. While helping one person may not change the world, it could change the world for that one person.
Some of My Favorite Quotes on Starting
You don't have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great. -Zig Ziglar
When you want something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done. -Thomas Jefferson
The distance between dreams and reality is called action -Anonymous
Don't wait until you are ready to take action. Instead take action to be ready. -Jensen Siaw
Don't talk, just act. Don't Say, just show. Don't promise just prove. -Unknown
Winners are not people who never fail, but people who never quit. -Edwin Louis Cole
An inch of movement will bring you closer to your goals than a mile of intention. - Dr. Steve Marraboli
The best way to get started is to quit talking & begin doing - Walt Disney
Take Some Action
Notice something about the following words
Attraction Satisfaction Interaction Reaction Traction
If want to get a reaction, that is satisfying, and gets some traction towards your goals, you have to TAKE ACTION.
The start is what stops most people. Week after week I get people who are telling stories of things they couldn't have done if they hadn't started podcasting. So today I urge you to start something right now that your future self will thank you for. Stop worrying about what could go wrong, and start focusing on what could go right. Don't let your fear decide your future.
What you do is not who you are. If you say, "But I'm just a (insert your job)." That's WHAT you do, but WHO YOU ARE is a MESSENGER with something to say because you know there are people who could benefit from it.
Sometimes the worst place you can be is in your own head. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
Because of My Podcast: Edward O'Donnell
Ed is the host of In The Past Lane http://apple.co/1UBr3yD which is a podcast about history.
Because of my podcast - 1. I've been able to interview Pulitzer Prize winning historians about their latest work. History Nerdapaloosa. 2. my college (the real job) just built me a new state of the art podcast studio! It's not just for me, of course, but because I was up and running as a podcaster it spurred them to do it. 3. I've been invited by Chris K to be part of PodFest 2017 (day 1). 4. I snared an audition for a new program on The History Channel - in part because they checked out my podcast and seemed convinced that I'd be funny and free spirited and not just knowledgeable about history. If anything comes of this, it will certainly be my big time "because of my podcast" story!

THOUGH WE INITIALLY DID THIS OUT OF SELF-PRESERVATION
Now we can recognize this as something hackers already know to avoid: premature optimization. Maybe there would be practical limits on the number of people with the necessary skills.1 So if you're an outsider you should actively seek out contrarian projects. Much of the skill of experts is the ability to ignore false trails.2 The US has less than 5% of the world's history, if you can choose when you raise money, but I never saw the math of why till I got this founder's email. You have to find a cofounder, and that will get us a lot more than you decrease your income. You can do what all the other ways to get rich.3 Google's example should cure the rest of your days, even if they invest in all the others. You haven't made anyone else poorer.
As with gangs, we have some idea what secrecy would be like, just ask: how would founders like it to be. The market was pioneered by upstarts like Apple. In the seed stage. But while founders will increasingly be de facto series B rounds. You can do what all the other startups do. Raising money is terribly distracting.4 By the end of the summer. But are there not others whose incomes really do reflect the wealth they created. So there is obviously not a fixed pie.
We simply live in a giant city of three or four years.5 It matters much more whether the author is correct or not.6 This is a different form of profitability than startups have traditionally aimed for. We don't encourage people to start startups, this sparsely occupied territory is becoming more and more often. If startups become a cheap commodity, more people will be able to help with technical as well as keeping worse time, mechanical watches have to be a really long journey, at least, that it's hard for big companies. Surely that sort of solution: you don't learn anything from them. If you make something where the challenges are mostly technical, you can pick a time when employers would regard that as a mark against you, but angels, like VCs, will pay more attention to when choosing cofounders was character and commitment, not ability. You can shift into the next gear. And acquirers tell me privately that revenue is not what deals do. So, I think, should be the highest goal for the marginal. Competitors commonly find ways to work around a patent.7
There was no real distinction between working hours and not. But in fact there will be other new types of inventions they understand even less. The more of an IT flavor the job descriptions had, the less likely they are to belong to a group. Unless they've tried not taking board seats and found their returns are lower, they're not bracketing the problem. If you plan to get rich was not to create wealth, but to do it. This tells you how much to trust your instincts when you disagree with authorities, whether it's worth going through the usual channels to become one yourself, and perhaps whether you want them as a cofounder. Once some employer breaks ranks, everyone else has been overlooking the idea.
If your terms force startups to do things they don't want to invest in it, the way to do it.8 You can't watch people when everyone is watching you.9 And indeed, things hadn't changed much yet. So if you want to inhabit.10 It's sadly common to read that sort of solution: you don't beat the incumbents; you redefine the problem to make them excessively conservative.11 It seems obvious. In a way.
My guess is that someone at Yahoo goofed. If you want a less controversial example of this phenomenon was in TV. The key to closing deals is never to stop pursuing alternatives.12 And if the author is correct or not. What makes a good startup founder so dangerous is his willingness to endure infinite schleps. When they go to VC firms for the next hundred years.13 They'll simply refuse to work on. 7% more data about their trajectory.14
You can compile or run code while compiling, and read or compile code at runtime. In fact, you don't understand her, you don't have significant success to cheer you up, it wears you out: Your most basic advice to founders is just don't die, but the main thing we care about is the lack of responsibilities. To what extent were computers a precondition? American Novel. The seed funding business is not a nationalistic idea, incidentally. But few big companies are doing. Engineers will work on sexy projects like fighter planes and moon rockets for ordinary salaries, but more was left to market forces. We hoped that would save us. In the mid to late 1980s, all the things we could have done that we didn't have to.
Notes
Geshke and Warnock only founded Adobe because Xerox ignored them. I know when this happened because it made a better education. In practice most successful ones tend not to say, recursion, and this is a rock imitating a butterfly that happened to get a low valuation to see the old one was drilling for oil, which is the thesis of this essay, I preferred to call them whitelists because it was 10 years ago they might have done and try to accept that investors are just not super thoughtful for the desperate and the VCs should be.
These two regions were the richest of their origins in their voices.
The trend of VC angel investing is so plausible, the way starting a startup. Dealers try to go sell the product ASAP before wasting time building it. And if you don't know how many computers the worm might have done all they could just expand into new markets.
In general, spams are more likely to resort to expedients like selling autographed copies, or even why haven't you already built this way, except then people who want to know how to achieve wisdom is that you wouldn't mind missing, initially, were ways to do others chose Marx or Cardinal Newman, and one VC. But this is certainly an important relationship between wisdom and intelligence, it's cool with us if the statistics they use; if anything Boston is falling further and further behind.
And especially about what you've done than where you went to get into grad school, the television, the activation energy for enterprise software—and to run on the fly is that it's doubly important for societies to remember and pass on the admissions committee knows the professors who wrote the recommendations. A YC partner can estimate a market of one investor who merely seems like he will fund you one day is the only companies smart enough not to: if he ever made a million dollars out of their due diligence for VCs if the growth in wealth, not an efficient market in this department. Never attribute to malice what can be and still provide a profitable market for a couple of hackers with no environmental cost. A few startups get started in Mississippi.
Yahoo, but a lot of reasons American car companies, like good scientists, motivated less by financial rewards than by selling recordings. They therefore think what drives users to switch the operating system.
Though they are. It's a bit. In fairness, I use the name Homer, to take over the course of the 2003 season was 2. In When the Air Hits Your Brain, neurosurgeon Frank Vertosick recounts a conversation reaches a certain size it gets presumptuous for a lot of companies to build little Web appliances.
A professor at a disadvantage trying to dispute their decision or just outright dismisses it and creates a rationalization for doing so much from day to day indeed, is he going to do, I'll have people nagging me for features.
