MY DSMP CHARACTER HEADCANONS: GENDER & ORIENTATION

I've decided to start sharing some of my DSMP headcanons here! Info subject to updates. For this one in particular (LGBTQ+ identities), please remember I'm talking about the characters, so some details are different from the CCs. I'll also add links to explanations for identities that aren't as well-known. Enjoy :D

Philza: A-Faunic. He/him; masc presentation. Heteromantic demisexual, and queerplatonic.

Technoblade: Cassmale. He/him; masc presentation. Aro-ace and queerplatonic.

Wilbur: Cis man. He/him; masc presentation. Biromantic bisexual.

Tommy: Cis man before his revival; boyvoid afterwards. He/him, sol/solar/solarself; masc presentation. Aro-ace.

Tubbo: Cassmale. He/him; masc presentation. Asterosian, asexual and queerplatonic.

Ranboo: Nonbinary, genderfluid and kenochoric. He/they normally, re/rem/remself when enderwalking. Masc & androgynous presentation. Toric, ace and queerplatonic.

Fundy: Trans man. He/him; masc presentation. Gay.

Eret: Genderqueer. He/she/they; presents differently on different days. Biromantic bisexual.

Puffy: Trans woman. She/her, ae/aers, wave/waveself; feminine presentation. Lesbiromantic demisexual.

Niki: Cis woman. She/her; feminine presentation. Biromantic bisexual.

Sam: Cis man. He/him; masc presentation. Panromantic ace.

woe cwilbur be upon ye. as promised here are my designs for every cwil era/stage/what have you + my reasons behind each design. design breakdown will be under the read more :>

as a disclaimer going forward: these designs are heavily informed by my own headcanons (namely the nature spirit headcanon, which i will only briefly explain here- if you want more of a background on that here's where I first shared the hc and explained it a bit) i'll be honest idk how much of these hcs/analysis abides by canon? so if you prefer to closely abide by canon this may not be for you. having said that, let's get into this. So one question that may initially come to mind when looking over this is "Why a nature spirit?" which is a reasonable question all things considered. I've already gone over the Watsonian explanation in the past, so instead I'll cover the Doylist take- which is more interesting as it pertains to these designs. Wilbur, as I see her, is a character that has many faces- she warps and changes to embody the view of herself she sees as necessary for the situation, whether that be the revolutionary or the villain. Simultaneously he has this core that's deeply eccentric and often difficult for the characters around him to grasp- this can come in the form of benign weirdness to the struggles with mental illness we see him go through throughout his various arcs. There's this push and pull between the person they want to portray and who they are fundamentally that's always at play.

Them being a nature spirit embodies this to an extreme. As a nature spirit their physical form is informed by their self perception (the one that's warped by the role they feel they need to take) and their own mental state, both aspects of the character that are foundational.

Another question that may arise upon reading all of this is "Why not just make him a shapeshifter?" which is also a valid question. Truthfully this one is rooted heavily in my own ideas of the character, so you'll have to take that with a grain of salt. I am, unfortunately, prone to making shit up /lh With that in mind however, the reason I choose nature spirit over shapeshifter is that, the way I interpret it, it's much more... animalistic? Let me explain: the way I tend to see shapeshifters portrayed is either a. having a base form that's relatively humanoid and then multiple other forms or b. having no base form but still presenting as generally humanoid. As a nature spirit Wilbur has a natural (ba-dum-tsss) tie to well... nature, and all that lives within it.

She's this manifestation of the wilderness whose form isn't even naturally human, yet she shapes herself into something presenting as such. As a nature spirit Wilbur occupies this weird nebulous space between human and beast, never fully embodying either. I find this incredibly interesting for a character that wants to feel and to be treated as human so badly, one that also clearly resents being seen as monstrous (despite leaning into that perception of themselves)

TLDR; Wilbur's 50 contradictions in a trenchcoat (literally) and being a nature spirit gives these contradictions/masks/ect. a physical manfiestation Now that we're 500+ words of analysis in, let me breakdown each individual stage :3 /lh

Pre-SMP + L'manburg

The most "human" Wilbur ever gets here- technically these two are different designs/eras but they have similar design notes so I'm lumping them together here

During this stage of his life Wilbur has a fairly good handle on his shapeshifting and is consciously choosing to look more human

Small details like the fangs, pointed ears, claws, and pupils allude to an inhuman nature. I like to think there's something uncanny valley about them- they look human but the longer you look at them the more small discrepancies you notice

Both look relatively generic appearance wise, if you can't tell this was Wilbur's "I am a Normal Human Man era" but with slightly more gender /lh

Decided to stick Wilbur in a different outfit Pre-SMP than the actual skin most people reference, mostly because I thought it'd be fun. The trenchcoat follows her throughout her development

Lots of goofy ass patches and pins on the coat

I personally hc that Wilbur always has some sort of oversized clothes on because it's a bit like a security blanket for him, very grounding and all that- anyways that's what the trenchcoat is here

Limited notes on L'manburg era- main thing is the glasses; they got cracked in conflict and they just never bothered to fix em

Pogtopia

As a result of stress (and personal perception) Wilbur lost control over his shifting entirely

Wilbur views their nature as inherently monstrous, thus when they think of themselves as monstrous or evil they lose most of their human appearance

Much taller in this form than usual, this reflects both how she feels she's perceived and how she perceives herself (monstrous, scary, inhuman, ect. ect.)

Their height also serves to emphasis the claustrophobic nature of the ravine and especially the button room

Eye color changes from brown to red, yet again another thing which reflects his self loathing

Coat is the same one worn pre-smp, just with some adjustments

Pins & patches removed from the jacket (my friend suggested it saying that he "ripped them out because they were too happy" and I find that mental image particularly silly so it stays)

Covered in stains, partially because the ravine is just. awful. and partially because this thing is not taking care of herself even a little bit

Lenses are even more cracked than they were during the revolution

Ghostbur

This section has a lot less points then the others on account of Ghostbur being fairly self explanatory, but shhhhhh

Reverted to "base form" post death, form is extremely fluid as a ghost- she tends to shift depending on the topic of conversation or the person she's speaking with (Explain being: whenever she talks about "alivebur" she becomes more human)

Less of a note and more rambling: fox ghostbur is especially fun to me given the hatred Wilbur has for Ghostbur. Ghostbur physically reflecting the parts of Wilbur that they hate the most in themselves

For Wilbur their base form- just a normal widdle fox- represents vulnerability. It is quite literally a small, fuzzy animal with little means to defend itself and it is also the culmination of everything Wilbur is running from. Ghostbur embraces this form fully yet is seen as more palatable by the people around her than Wilbur ever was

Constantly leaking a jammy, blue substance from his eyes and the cut in his chest, yucky

Especially long sections of "fur" like their tail and the back of their neck are constantly "dripping" little wisps like rain

Post-Revival

Post-revival his shifting is still fucked up (thank the mental illness for that) but he's got a slightly better handle on it, enough to look semi-human

Eyes have reverted back to brown but their lenses are tinted red anyways (often looks red)

The coat makes a comeback, edges are all fucked up from the explosion

That funky little overcoat/cloak/ect. got yoinked by Niki

Disheveled appearance meant to reflect her rancid ass mental state- namely the hair and the facial hair. Hair is grown out because she can't be bothered to cut it (you bet that shit is full of knots)

Nasty awful smeared eyeshadow as a treat <3 (I just think he deserves to be a little cunty yk?)

Got a little tired near the end here which is why the points got a bit sloppy, maybe I'll add more at a later date who knows. If you made it this far I hope you at least enjoyed reading all of this :>

DSMP Hybrids - Part 1

- Demon Hybrids

✦ For my DSMP headcanons of hybrids on the server, I decided to work a bit on the anatomy and characteristics of each species, starting by Demons!

Note: There's a difference for full-blood demons, such as cBad and the others; I'll be focusing mainly on the hybrids rather than the full demons.

⤷ During the time I made this drawing I had only worked on 3 demon hybrids: cEryn, cTommy and cSapnap, however I was reminded that Tina confirmed her character to be a demon, so she too is a demon hybrid in my headcanons (I'll be working on her design later!)

HYBRIDS CHARACTERISTICS

⤷ Demon Hybrids have very similar characteristics in general: As beings with demon blood, they all are born with long tails and horns, with different sizes depending on their sex. They have long ears and scales around their body, that can be more or less proeminent depending on the person;

Although my first three designs have all different shades of red and black, these hybrids can also have dark shades of blue and purple (such as cTina);

⤷ For demon hybrids, their sex can affect their physiognomy. Some of the charistics I worked on were:

For AMAB hybrids: They have longer tails with sharper tips and small horns;

For AFAB hybrids: Their tails are smaller with a round tip and bigger horns;

So, what about my cTommy design? I headcanon cTommy as an intersex person (He/She) which leads to him as having mixed traits from both sexes (Long tail with sharper tip and big horns); I'd like to point that hybrids can be born with traits of the other sex, although that's not cTommy's case :)

Demon Hybrids in general also very some strong fire resistence (they're not immune, just resistent), besides other quirks such as: Better eyesight at night and better hearing than humans.

Their hybrid organs are also essential for them: their tails are very important for balance and sense of spacial perception, whilst their horns are related to their hearing, so damadging those parts could cause serious injuries - Example: cTommy got her horns destroyed during cDream's beating in prison, and although they were restored on revival, she's deaf on her left ear, besides injuries on his tail during exile, she gets clumsier after that.

So yeah, they're definitely not decorations but functional organs.

cTina also has serious injuries on her horns, making her almost completely deaf on both ears;

For cEryn, he's one of the few hybrids that doesn't have any scales around his body like cTommy and cSapnap do;

Some background information: Demon Hybrids aren't exactly common, so for all of them on the server meeting each other was kind of a surprise, maybe less for cTommy as he met cEryn during his childhood, but yeah, still a bit rare.

That'll be it for now for the demon hybrids. I plan on working on cTina's design once I'm done on the Bovidae hybrids (cTubbo, cPuffy and cSchlatt)

Ooh! Nice question! I was actually recently working that out more. And i have this whole story in my head which i can’t get down fully coherently but—

I’d say my c!dream is a close to a shapeshifter demon (Dreamon as i like to call it sometimes).

But he has a curse on him by the revival book where he gets more and more corrupted the more he uses it. Also causing him to have some unbalanced control over his looks.

A Michael_Beloved animatic about his final moments, because he is an underappreciated character, and has so much potential.

A ramble about him under cut.

- I think there is a slight flash but I'm unsure? So flashing warning just in case

michael is an underated npc / character and people should utilise his dynamic more often. i will explain:

he's stuck, he has nothing to do, nothing he can do. because he's an npc, his life will never begin because he's not living. people overlook him and don't pay him mind, his own parents don't pay attention to him. it's not that they don't love him, they do, they just don't have the time nor ability to look after him, atleast not properly.

people treat him more like a glorified pet because he is still an npc, no one should, realistically, love him like a son, at most he is a pet. but he's one of, if not the only, npc on the dsmp that is canonically considered a son, not a pet. shroud is technically a pet, yoghurt is i think considered fundy's son? but if you check on the wiki, michael is the only one of actual listing and not just an addition of another. michael is his own person, and yet is still an npc. he can't do anything, and yet is his own someone. he is someone, not someone's addition. he's not tubbo's son, or ranboo's son, he is michael.

and yet he's still stuck in his room. still stuck having to go along with other people's wills. because he is code. he can't do anything but follow his code.

and so with the charactarization of michael, making him his own person, it allows him the ability to think, yet not do. "i think therefore i am" and yet he can't think. not actually. he still has to follow his code. if you hit him, he must attack back, its in the code. so you can characterize and personalise michael all you want, give him hopes, and dreams, give him depth, but in the end, he is an npc. he can't leave his room, he can't make friends, he can't go explore. he is stuck in his room. just like how rapunzel is stuck in the tower.

in this essay i will explain why michael's song is "when will my life begin"-

Ok but in actuality, the rotting aspect of Michael is so great for potential in fics;

michael can be used in fics and i'm heartbroken people don't. see, michael is a zombie piglin, he is quite literally rotting. he is a sick, dying child of neglect and no one uses this to their advantage. do no fic writers see the potential devestating catastrophe of michael? how angsty it could be if he's used right?

I like Michael, can you tell 🥺

And you don't even need him to be a piglin in fics either, he could be a dying plant, or an injured yet beloved pet. He has potential please people listen to me 😭🙏

You can make him disability rep, please I love disabled characters in fics (if done right) and there's so much potential here.

I was messaging my friends while making this too, and I was shattering their very souls with my angst, and the thing is, you can shatter your friend's souls with angst too! Please use Michael, even if he's just a side character in your fic, if you got Tubbo, or Ranboo, please include Michael in some form, like a melted candle, or a torn doodle.

Anyways continuing on with angst!

They say the eyes are the route to the soul, and I like to think piglins only die when their souls are damaged. Only when their light fades.

Michael's usually twinkling eyes, now dull and a sullen blue, holding nothing but pure sorrow, and childish hope now shattered. His parents aren't coming. No one is coming. He's going to die alone. He's going to die, without embracing his parents one last time.

His body so decayed and rotten his ribs are fully out, spiders finding a new home where his once beating heart of love was, and yet he allows them to stay, allowing the bugs to feast on his carcass, because it's something. It's another being simply touching him. And so he lets the bugs eat his dying self, because at least it's something, a distressing comfort to accompany his final moments.

He's not alone. Not yet. It's fine. He's not alone. He won't die alone.. he thinks with his last thoughts, salty tears prickling his eye as he tries to comfort himself, just as his parents would if they were here.

I hope you cry, I hope you sob, I hope those silvery drops of sorrow prick your eyes and roll down your cheeks. If you are angry at me, perhaps you should scream into the bottomless pit of my soul, maybe a shard of guilt might scream back one day. Today's not the day though.

how techno became a pig headcannon

In the Piglin culture, they're frequently named in reference of what keeps them living. It might be abstract like an ideal, a wish, emotion, allegiance, or something more concrete like something related to their career/services they provide. So, Technoblade is quite literally calling himself a weapon, because fighting is what he lives for. It’s the challenge that pushes him further and further, motivation singing in his veins like adrenaline. All he wants is to fight for his friends and his ideals. It’s a way as claiming to be a protector, to him. A promise of safety and danger in one breath.

Which is why it hurts so much when all that meaning is stripped down to a simple tool.

Anyway, fluff time: as a little way of showing endearment, he gives his friends weapon nicknames. Philza is Fletching, as a reference to his feathers and also how no matter how far away he is he’ll always shoot over to technos side if he calls for him. Ranboo is Whipsnap, both for their tail and twig thinness but also a joke about them being a whippersnapper since Techno is their ‘old wizened’ mentor. Tommy is dagger, which started off as a cute diminutive and a joke about him being tiny, but became all too poignant when he became a dagger in technos back. And so on and so forth.

Thinking about how they aren’t quite parent/guardian and child but also aren’t quite peers. If y’all have been here long enough you know how feral I get for stories of immortal characters. And in my headcanons both Techno and Phil are immortal Phil is just an older immortal (both in total years and the age at which he stopped aging)

So it’s just interesting to imagine how it feels to hang out with this guy who is an adult just like you but you watched him grow up and also watched him age a couple more hundred years into immortality. And so by mortal standards Techno is crazy old and knowledgeable but by Phil’s “the only human person currently alive born 3 thousand years ago” standards he’s still young. Of course Phil isn’t morally flawless but I can just imagine him seeing Techno make these mistakes and think to himself “you’ll know how wrong you are right now once you get a few more cycles of history repeating itself under your belt, for now I still have to watch you make such human mistakes.” Namely among them being getting attached and personally invested in mortals choices and their consequences. To me Phil’s actions on the dsmp are far more connected to his grief than causes he’s invested in like Techno’s dedication to anarchy.

Also my annual apology to canon purists for basing basically my whole reading of these characters on shit I made up about them.

you know how some people can smell when it's going to rain, or if weed's been smoked in a room over the course of the past month, or traces of gunpowder in a field from a battle long ago, or exactly where somebody is on their cycle, or how long ago a bow was rosined? thats him.

you know the whole “wafting away towards the scent of pie” bit on cartoons? thats him in L'mnaburg smelling weed from two miles away

he can smell if Q has been in a room recently by the smell of his cologne

he is like a dog following the scent trails of things. it's enrichment to him. he crawls on all fours.

he cant tell if he can still smell the gunpowder under erets perfume or if it's a delusion
