Even if Vakama doesn't specifically make weapons for the Mata, I could definitely see him smithing things for them and/or based on their specific sensibilities. Like idk if he'd make Kopaka a whole sword and shield but he might make Onua digging claws. (Onua has to use all his willpower to accept them graciously and maturely and not immediately wordlessly shove them on and go digging himself a big hole in the nearest patch of dirt.) Making things for people, especially useful things, is how Vakama shows he cares.

In the smithing course, he had to get really good at time management, because there's a not insignificant amount of stuff in smithing that's time sensitive, and if you're starting something that's going to take an hour and you absolutely can't take a break in the middle of it because that will cause structural integrity issues, you'd better make damn sure you have an hour to spare before lunch because otherwise the instructors will give you hell about doing it too many times in a row. Not that Vakama has any experience with this.

For Onewa, the process of Making Art is fascinating because no two people are going to make it the same way, even if they're making the same thing using the same medium. They're each going to be bringing their own skills and preferences and biases and ideas to a piece of art. Even if they're straight up trying to copy something it's going to be different every time. This is something else Krahka struggles to understand but appreciates about him over time. Onewa is a lot of things, but fortunately (and unfortunately sometimes) thoughtful is one of them.

Nuju and Whenua's sci-fi based arguments are largely superficial these days (they like series with the same overall themes, it's the execution they disagree on mostly). Whenua also found out that Nuju spent a lot of time on early Star Trek forums in the early 00s arguing about shipping which he finds very funny (and also disagrees with his choice of OTP because of course he does).

Nuju would be more worried about the cost of filament and the amount of space things take up but Whenua gets so passionate about it, spending hours researching each object and telling Nuju about them and learning how to sand and paint and decorate them so they resemble the originals even more closely and like sue him for thinking his husband is cute. There are worse things Whenua could be spending money on. (Sode note: if they had the space in their apartment, Whenua would absolutely be a model train guy. With the big setup and everything. He drags Nuju to model train shows all the time.)

Nuju insists on taking care of the banking and so on because if Whenua had his way he would be physically in the bank every week. Constantly. Nuju is incredibly proficient at app banking (and phone banking before that since that didn't involve speaking, just pushing buttons and following a robot voice's instructions). Whenua is the only person Nuju knows who not only has a proper chequebook still, but uses it frequently. Every time he owes people money they get a cheque if he hasn't been to the bank recently.

I don't have finished artwork, whether drawn or fic, for KNPS. What I have is headcanons and scenarios because I love your AU.

Need to let shit out and as i can't afford therapy anymore, here's the place

I have no idea what to do anymore. Been playing with the idea of an onlyfans or selling feet pics, but i don't have the persistence for even that. Can't pick up any commission work bc i can't draw. Can't keep the print shop bc i can't afford materials. Im considering just selling all machinery to pay the bills.

Dad's only got 500brl from his payment this month, bc he borrowed money from the bank and it's eating up his whole salary. No, i have no idea where the supposed money he's borrowed went into. No idea where he spent enough money to cut his salary in fucking half, paying 144 installments of 1500brl.

We have to pay 1350brl for the apartment, about 250 for all phones, 180 for the internet, and thankfully this month only 56 for electricity but it might have been wrong and we might still get another bill with the right amount.

Outside of that, we need to eat, and i need to pay for my new phone that i only got bc the old one was about to explode, plus our credit card is blocked bc we don't have 5k to pay it right now. The credit card was being used exclusively to buy food.

I lost my job with the psychiatrist to her new computer, mom thankfully still has her first husband's pension, and dad gave us 500. So we have, collectively, about 2k if i give up my savings, and then next month we're back to about 1300brl, which doesn't even pay the apartment.

Dad has a job, a public job, from where he can't be legally fired. But he's on medical leave, so he can't work extra hours to earn more. I do understand the pressure and how tired he is after almost 30 years, but he's the only one who has a job. When I started working for the psychiatrist, he dumped all of the bills on me, but i was only making 300 per week and now I don't have this anymore. He's on medical leave bc he hates the school he teaches at, and got the leave with his psychiatrist. But if he needs to go back to work, he can't change schools bc no school will take a teacher on medical leave, so he doesn't want to go back. As i said, i do understand all of his psychological issues, but why do I have to ignore mine, which are also physical, to take whatever job, but he can't go back to the job he already has?? Isn't fucking survival first? We can't afford FOOD!

I have a medical leave check for myself to see if i can get into health security benefits in a couple weeks, but what if i can't? What if they look at me and say tough luck, deal with it? I haven't had an interview lined up yet, i went physically to places to give them my resume, but im either way under or too over qualified for literally every position i tried. Jobs that just require high school level won't hire me bc im graduated at university level, and places that require uni level also want me to have at least a mastery, or 5 years experience, or both.

I don't actually want to become a cam girl or whatever, I can't do the jobs i have the means to keep bc the means are gone, im too depressed to draw anything, I can't afford higher education and i have no drive right now,

I spent the last month in such a spiral of depression, bc i can't show that im depressed or my mom's depression will get worse. My best friends sent me money and im so embarrassed about it bc i shouldn't need this kind of help at all, and it was only enough to keep up for a month in the end. I can't bring myself to take any kind of whatever job, like at a store or supermarket or cleaning bc i won't survive the pain. I can feel my health declining, im in pain all the time, my bad foot has been acting up everyday and my ok foot is also annoying me.

I can't see much of any solution for anything. I became a burden, to my parents and to myself. To everyone. If i wasn't here, maybe it would be different. Easier. Cheaper.

I am diligent about paying bills on time, but this month I paid them from the APP on my phone. 🙄 Whoopsies, missed a credit card payment that was not in "the view". Then I never realized until about 10 days later via emails, texts... yada yada.  I transferred the funds on a Saturday from account to account - STILL didn't resolve until Tuesday. 🤦 Fast forward to receiving late fees, penalties, late payments!  Oh no sir, not on this nautical watch!  I fished like a fisherman in a storm! 🎣  Brought in grace and ease and then some.  I then called the bank and the nicest young lady ever spoke with me on the phone.  I explained it all at great detail.  She did not say much other than, "I see it all here." 👀 Cloaked in what she was looking at were all the bank fees that were not showing up at my end. 😠 When I asked about them she explained them and I said, "I've been with ya'll forever. What can we do to erase all these excess fees?" and she said, "What would you like to do?" I said, "I'd like to delete/erase them!"  She responded with, "All you had to do was ask."  🤩 We all know sometimes the universe can play a game with us, and as sure as the sea tides ebb and flow, high and low, so goes life! 🌊 Often in order to get some much needed Universe change... all we had to do was ask.

I am diligent about paying bills on time, but this month I paid them from the APP on my phone. 🙄 Whoopsies, missed a credit card payment that was not in "the view". Then I never realized until about 10 days later via emails, texts... yada yada.  I transferred the funds on a Saturday from account to account - STILL didn't resolve until Tuesday. 🤦 Fast forward to receiving late fees, penalties, late payments!  Oh no sir, not on this nautical watch!  I fished like a fisherman in a storm! 🎣  Brought in grace and ease and then some.  I then called the bank and the nicest young lady ever spoke with me on the phone.  I explained it all at great detail.  She did not say much other than, "I see it all here." 👀 Cloaked in what she was looking at were all the bank fees that were not showing up at my end. 😠 When I asked about them she explained them and I said, "I've been with ya'll forever. What can we do to erase all these excess fees?" and she said, "What would you like to do?" I said, "I'd like to delete/erase them!"  She responded with, "All you had to do was ask."  🤩 We all know sometimes the universe can play a game with us, and as sure as the sea tides ebb and flow, high and low, so goes life! 🌊 Often in order to get some much needed Universe change... all we had to do was ask.

Just trying to save some money

We wanted to buy a condo. Our apartment was getting small, and it was far from either of our jobs. My commute was tedious and the bus ride took him hours. We had accrued a lot of debt over the last three years just, like, letting our expenses get the best of our credit scores. Just dumb twenty-somethings with unlimited desires and no one to stop us. No one taught us either.

We listened to my mother's advice; cut back on your little luxuries and save some money. Dad just nodded. His father told us to at least save some money for the minimal down payment, see what the interest rates were and work on our credit. His mom just nodded.

So we cut back on eating out and stopped buying lattes on our walks downtown. We tried to reduce our grocery bills by getting only what was on sale. We did our best but the interests on our credit cards kept up with what little we saved. Every month we came to the same conclusion.

"Do you have anything left?"

"I'm bled dry, I don't get it!"

"You splurge on anything?"

"Just the oil change. The brakes were due and he said something about the air sensor I didn't understand. Had it changed."

"This piece of shit is getting expensive to run."

"Yeah."

But I still desperately needed it, no bus lines reached the hotel I worked at or the mall where the groceries were the cheapest. The city's planning didn't want to help us.

Our parents weren't worried.

"It's okay, it might take a little while but you'll get to it!" my mom tried to cheer me up "Surely there's something else you can cut back on!"

"I guess so."

I ran a budget app, with input from my bank and credit card statements, trying to find where I was bleeding money. But nothing, just the bare necessities, maybe a book last week, maybe this grocery trip had been a bit extravagant, my share of the rent, our insurance, fuel.

Our insurance.

Did we really need a 150k protection for a one-bedroom? We do not own that much! Did the old beat-up Nissan need full coverage? It was paid for a long time ago. I felt dumb. Every year we were paying more in insurance than the amount we bought it for.

"Babe? I'm gonna call the insurance company tomorrow. I think we're wasting, like a lot, with them."

And so our debt melted a few hundred dollars every month. I felt relieved. So relieved. And excited.

I started eating less. Not to lose weight but to make the groceries last longer. I didn't bring lunches to work, only water. I sneaked some bits from the buffet but otherwise just fasted all day.

One day I had an idea. I parked the car out back by the dumpsters and, making sure the line cooks weren't smoking outside, dove in at my break, filling the trunk with bags of food we had thrown away. It was safe, the freezing temperature would keep it from spoiling. It was safe. I would sift through it tonight, see what's still good, what's not.

"Uh... what's that?"

"I figured we could save up a lot more if I took some food from th..."

"Did you steal this from the hotel dumpster!?"

"It's not theft they were throwing it away!"

"That's not what I..." he stopped, sighed, pinched the bridge of his nose and scratched his head with both his hands. "I'm not gonna eat trash!"

"Fine! But fill up the car yourself if you waste your cash on groceries!"

Two months of that and I had paid off one of my credit cards entirely while he struggled with either of his. I sometimes slept in unoccupied bedrooms at the hotel to save on gas. It was better that way, we didn't really feel like hanging out anyway. I took double shifts when I could, it kept my mind away from the hunger and my fragile fingernails. They kept breaking. I had to be careful not get caught stealing for the buffet. So annoying.

He called me at work.

"Did you block my number? I tried texting you. Have you been here all this week?"

"Yes" I whispered "I'm trying to save on gas dammit!"

"You blocked my number?! Why?"

"No, no I sold my phone. I spent the week here."

"What?"

"I sold my phone. I don't need it. You can take my messages and I only come here anyway."

"Your parents keep calling" he said after a long silence "maybe give them a call. We're all worried J."

"Will do."

"When are you coming home? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

"Okay" he paused "I love you"

I hung up. I was pissed. He would have me wasting our money on expensive meals at home instead of paying back his credit cards. He would have me drive 25 miles back and forth, on MY time, with MY gas money, so I would distract him from his boring life? What was I his Netflix account? I briskly walked back to the front desk, and briskly fainted on the soft carpet.

I woke up to my manager helping me up. Her soft arm and the warmth of her large body felt luxurious and wasteful. I got angry. My vision pulsed to my heartbeat. She sat me on a couch in the lobby. She was obviously angry too.

"I let go of your weird shit for the last few months Julie" she said with a soft voice holding her anger on a leach "but if you start fainting on the job I can't let you come in. Get some help. You look like a well-dressed corpse! You have sick days, take them!"

"I don't want to. I need to work."

"You can't come to work like that! You know the cameras see you sleeping in the rooms and dive in the dumpsters!" her voice got tremulous "Look I don't want to push you to the edge if you're afraid to go home..."

"It's too expensive..." I said, she looked at me dumbfounded and confused "Yeah okay. I will get some rest."

"Take a proper meal before driving. Please. We will talk about this later. I'll call you next Tuesday."

"Yeah."

She was about to fire me. I knew it. I sat in the car, catching a glimpse of a gaunt stranger's reflection in the window. It was just me. Faint, my blonde hair dry and thinning, my eyes sunken and sad, my skin flaky and pale. She was about to fire me.

I drove towards home, but parked in front of a large bungalow.

"We could save on insurance by sleeping under their back porch maybe."

I tried the door, it was unlocked. I walked through the house, helped myself to the fridge, went to the garage and sneaked out with a gasoline can.

"We should make the insurance worth paying."

Part 1

The same day at lunch, Marinette had just exited the classroom after everyone else had left when she was accosted by a figure dressed in all black. She stumbled back a step, barely catching her balance. She managed to look up at the figure, only to squeal when she saw who it was, and eagerly return the hug.

“Uncle John!” She cried when he picked her up and swung her about. John was not the man’s real name, but a nom de plume he used to blend with the humans. The full name was John Therapon, and he was listed as one of her legal guardians (she had a lot).

“Little Mari!” He shouted, setting her down. He was an odd looking man, with waist length platinum hair in a warrior braid and green eyes like poison, he would always draw attention. He only drew more with his fashion sense. Her Uncle wore a long black trench coat over black skinny jeans and a black button up, with a clunky looking wallet chain. He also wore a thick chain-link necklace and heavy motorcycle boots. Over all, he looked like someone’s goth/emo/punk cousin more than an ancient immortal being who reaped souls.

“Are you the one Dad said was coming to check on me?” She asked, stepping back and adjusting her buns, which had come loose when he had glomped her.

“Indeed, I am, little chaos bringer!” He twirled her around and bowed low, pressing a kiss to her hand. “And for your birthday, I have a very special surprise!” He reached into his coat and pulled out a small business card, presenting it to her with a flourish, and she giggled as she took it.

Turn around!

It read. Marinette spun on the spot and looked up, only to scream in delight.

“DAD!” She flung herself at the tall, slim figure. Sebastian caught his daughter, wrapping her in a tight hug.

“Hello, dearest.” He smiled, flashing his eyes magenta. She flashed hers as well, making them shine a darker shade of gray.

“I thought you were in India, visiting Uncle Agni?” She asked, stepping back.

“A simple deception, dearest. Now, let’s go pick up your mother and Papa, I made reservations at Raven’s Writing Desk.” Marinette cheered. Raven’s Writing Desk was a Michelin-starred restaurant. The owner’s father had made a questionable deal with Sebastian (ten years of life and a successful business, then Sebastian got to eat his soul), so the family got reservations for the best tables and half off whatever they wanted. “We’ll even have some others joining us.” Sebastian teased, patting her head. Right as they reached the sidewalk, a crash echoed from a few miles away, and a plume of smoke filled the air. “Oh dear. It looks like we’ll all have to call and reschedule our reservation. You go handle this, dearest. I’ll go catch up with your mother and Papa.” She sighed, kissed her father on the cheek, and ducked into an alleyway, opening her purse. Plagg zoomed out with a sigh.

“Ooh! Raven’s Writing Desk! I love their cheese curds! Let’s finish this.”

“Agreed.” She grumbled. “Plagg, Claws Out!”

Hell-Cat raced over the rooftops, soaring through the air. The pads in the shape of a cat’s paw on the bottom of her boots silenced her steps, meaning she was a silent black and silver streak, soaring through the air. She landed in a crouch next to her partner and confidant, Coccinelle. Coccinelle nodded at her, twirling her yoyo in front of her as a shield.

Coccinelle’s costume was very different from Hell Cat’s. While Hell Cat wore a black body suit with silver highlights and a pair of pauldrons, Coccinelle wore a short red dress coated in ladybug spots and black leggings. Hell Cat’s boots reached her knees, while her partners went maybe an inch above her ankle. Whereas Coccinelle’s gloves were plain black and only went to her wrists, Hell Cat’s had wickedly sharp silver talons and reached her elbows, where they came to a point.

Even their masks were different. Coccinelle’s was round, and made her blue eyes look huge, while Hell Cat’s was slim and came to wicked looking points on each side of her eyes, making her look more feline. Another feature of Hell Cat’s mask was the magic that made her entire eye gray, the iris a few shades darker than the sclera. While Coccinelle had long, flowy ash blonde hair, Hell Cat’s, when transformed, barely reached her shoulders, and had a blue sheen. While Coccinelle was bright and colorful, Hell Cat was sharp monochrome. The only splash of color was the blue bow around her neck that tied in the front. Lots of small children tended to ask Coccinelle if she was a fairy, since she had wings (They were the tail ends of the scarf she wore) while teens and young adults tended to gravitate towards Hell Cat.

The Akuma was flinging a series of items at them, which all bounced off Coccinelle’s yoyo. The common theme seemed to be car repair. Hell Cat glanced at her partner.

“What’s the plan?” She asked.

“The Akuma is in his utility belt. I distract, you slash, I swing. From there, clear skies! Ready?” Coccinelle asked. Hell Cat nodded and crouched down, her ribbon tail flicking behind her. She waited until the Akuma reached for yet another projectile and Coccinelle began to monologue before diving at him, claws extended to their fullest. She slashed the belt as soared past the Akuma, who quickly dropped to his knees. As the dark magic bubbled from his skin, Coccinelle landed in front of him and captured the butterfly.

“No more rainy days for you, little akuma! Au revior!” She released the now-purified butterfly, and waved to the cheering people. “Kitty, can you handle the victim?” Coccinelle asked, reholstering her yoyo on her belt.

“Sure, I didn’t use my powers, so I’ve got a few minutes.” Coccinelle waved to the watching civilians and ran off, leaping to the roof of the nearest building with the help of her wings. Hell Cat sheathed her claws and knelt beside the victim; a young man dressed in a repair shop jumpsuit that was covered in grease stains.

“Hell Cat? Was I…?” The young man asked, staring at her.

“I’m afraid so, monsieur. May I ask why?” She set a hand on the man’s shoulder and guided him over to a nearby ambulance. The paramedic handed her a shock blanket and she wrapped it around his shoulders, as the other paramedic handed the victim a glass of water.

“My family repair shop isn’t doing so good.” He sighed. “My mom was diagnosed with cancer three years ago, and Dad remortgaged the shop so that he could still support the family and pay for Mom’s nurse. Now, we’re pretty successful, so we almost have it payed off.” He growled, clearly frustrated. “Except some big shot at the bank is demanding the remaining twenty-five-thousand euros in a month, or they foreclose the damn shop.” Hell Cat hissed. The bakery was the most successful in all Paris, maybe even France, and they catered a great deal of important events. Even during the busiest time of year, they would struggle to make that much, let alone have that much that didn’t need to go to other bills and buying ingredients. She had an idea.

“What bank is it, and who’s the one demanding the payment?” She asked, plotting. She did need to make another deal soon; her reserves were getting a little low.

“Um…Monsieur Gerard Lilac, at Goliath Banking. Curse his name!” No one asked why she needed the information. Everyone in Paris knew, if you had a problem, Hell Cat could solve it. No one knew how, just that she made problems (and occasionally people) disappear.

“Hell Cat!” Someone cried, and she looked up to see Alya charging towards her. This was yet another problem with Alya. She never considered the victims, just the next scoop. Hell Cat stood and blocked her view of the victim, and nodded to the paramedics. The two nodded back and hustled the man into the ambulance, quickly flipping on the lights and driving towards the nearest hospital. All Akuma victims got three one-hour therapy sessions, one right after being cleansed and then one each week for two weeks.

“Yes, mademoiselle?” She asked, crossing her arms.

“Why was the victim Akumatized? What will you be doing to help them? Do you intend to use this to track Hawkmoth? Do you have a statement for the press?” Her phone was inches from Hell Cat’s face. Hell Cat’s ears were pinned back, and she was really trying not to hiss. How she was ever friends with the girl she’d never know.

“Mademoiselle, the reason for Akumatization is never leaked to the press. We use every attack to track Hawkmoth. And the only statement I have for you is to get your phone out of my face before I break it, along with your hand. Goodbye.” She drew her staff and extended it, vaulting away.

3. Rant

Oof, are y'all not sick of me ranting yet? I feel like I do this often? Okay let's pick something to rant about. My siblings perfect 😂

Okay so my sister is 17 years old and recently she got a car, which is fine, she saved up and bought the car from my brother when he and his wife bought a new one. All of this is fine.

HOWEVER

Before she got the car? She was using my parents car. And this little monster... If she was told she couldn't use the car she threw a FIT. It wasn't even her damn car! And she hardly ever helped my parents with gas. Plus, my parents almost never told her no. At the time, I also didn't have a car, and when I closed at work I wasn't comfortable walking 10 minutes from the mall to the bank to drop off the deposit and then taking the bus home at 10 o'clock at night(I was off at 9:30 and the next bus isn't until 10), so she would have to come pick me up. I only closed like twice a week. When I opened the store, I was fine with taking the bus home. So she only had to pick me up late twice a week. And most of the time I had to wait for her because she was working late too.

This 17 year old would whine and complain and treat it like it was some huge inconvenience for her "I'm sick of picking you up from work, I need to go to bed for school" Bitch we both know you're not asleep or even in bed at 9:30. She constantly berated me for not having a car yet and for being 22 and still living with my parents. I MAKE $12 AN HOUR AND I ONLY WORK 32 HOURS A WEEK. And at the time I was still paying off my car that was totaled which was 200 a month, plus my various other bills, I was barely able to pay. I had to split my phone bill into two payments every month. It's not like I enjoyed the arrangement. And I can barely pay the $200 a month in rent my parents were charging me at the time, you think I could afford to move somewhere else?? And I may be 23 and still living with my parents, but I am paying rent to my parents.

That's a thing my sister and my 19 year old brother make fun of me for constantly! Keep in mind, my 19 year old brother ALSO LIVES HERE WITH MY PARENTS. AND HE DOESN'T PAY RENT. Sorry I make $12 an hour and can't afford to move out and also have anxiety which makes that hard anyway because I've never lived on my own.

They treat me like crap sometimes over stuff that already bothers me. Not moving out, not having friends, not going on dates, stuff that I only have so much control over. And my brother LOVES to argue. He can never just let shit go. He has to keep whispering and talking and can never just say okay and move on. It drives me insane and causes huge fights with my dad occasionally. Those are always awful and everyone in the family ends up crying and last time my mom almost made my dad sleep on the couch.

And my brother's friends oh my gosh they're annoying. They're good kids, but they're 19 year old boys. And like. He's been told his friends can't park in the driveway if a bunch of them are coming over, because everyone in the family has a car now, there's not room and he doesn't listen. The other night, my sister couldn't find a place to park in our driveway when she got home from work because all his friends were here. He never listens to my parents, never does what they ask and never cares about anyone else. Except maybe his friends and his girlfriend (but I love his girlfriend a lot, she's amazing. I don't know how she deals with him) he doesn't care about anyone else's schedule either. He is so self absorbed and he doesn't even realize it!

Coming Home (Jax x OC) Chapter 13

Chapter 13

“What about this one?” Jax asks, looking over the listing.

“Not big enough, and it’s too far away from the school.”

“The last one was too far from T-M. Where do you WANT to live, darlin’?”

“I want to be close to Gemma and Clay and the school.”

“But not the garage?”

“Not exactly.”

“You want me to ride like 30 minutes to work?” Jax fakes exasperation.

“No of course not. The club just gets shot up a lot and I don’t want to have the kids near that.”

“You’re right. I’ll fix the search parameters and try again.”

“Thanks, baby.”

“I like this one. It’s not too small, a big backyard, close to the school and my parents, and it has that white shit you wanted on the outside.”

“We should set up a time to go look at it.” I say, leaning over his shoulder looking at the ad.

“I’ll call.” Jax replies.

“Thank you.” I reply, going to check on Abel.

“Okay, we can go look this afternoon if you want.” Jax says, closing his phone.

“Great! We are going to have to bring Abel though. Gemma can pick up Sophia.”

“Ma can watch Abel too.”

“I guess you’re right, I just don’t want to leave him alone. Just look how cute he is!” I say, holding him up so his cheek is on mine, and he’s making baby noises.

“It will be easier to check out the house if we aren’t farting around a baby.” Jax laughs, poking Abel’s cheek making him bust out in baby laughter.

“But just look at him!” I exclaim. “Ilove him so much!”

“He’s obviously his dads son. He has you wrapped around his little fingers.”

“Sophia has you wrapped around her little finger. So you have no room to talk.”

“She’s my daughter, she’s supposed to be.”

“And Abel’s my son.” I laugh, before stopping and looking at Jax going to apologize.

“He is, I want him to be at least. I overstepped didn’t I?”

“We could make it official.”

“Get married?”

“That’s not what I meant but I guess that’d make it pretty official, huh?”

“I don’t want you to feel like you have too.”

“Jax, I don’t picture myself with anyone but you. I want to marry you.”

“Here.” He says, slipping me his reaper ring. “I don’t have one right now, I’ll have to get one.”

“Woah, are you asking?” I gasp. “I didn’t mean we had to get married right now!”

“I’m not asking you, I’m telling you.”

“Well I guess I don’t have much of a choice do I?” I smile.

“Nope. You’re stuck with me.”

“I wouldn’t want anything else, Jax. Now let's go look at this house, fiancé.”

“Sure thing, future Mrs Teller.” Jax smiles, pulling me in for a kiss.

“Did we seriously just get engaged?” I laugh, pulling back from the kiss.

“You bet your pretty ass we did.” Jax laugh, smacking my ass.

“I love you.”

“I love you too, darlin’.”

“Sophia is gonna be so happy, Mommy and Daddy are gonna be together forever.”

“I’m all about the fairytale, babe.”

“Jax, look at this bathtub!” I exclaim. “I think 3 of me could fit in it and still have room!”

“That means that we can both fit in it.” Jax laugh, wrapping his arms around my waist and nuzzling my neck.

“I think I like the shower better.” Jax says, pulling away and walking over to the his and hers shower. “This bitch is huge! Shower sex will be amazing in here!”

“Jax!” I exclaim, smacking his arm as the realtor blushes.

“I’ll just leave you two to discuss.” She says, booking it out of the room.

“You scared her away.” I laugh, wrapping my arms around him and kissing his back.

“Do you want an office? A place to work, away from the kids?”

“I’ll for sure need my office. I’m still running a business ya know. Speaking of, I have to go to New York for a few days here soon.”

“I’ll come with you. Ma’s been saying I need to take my vacation days, and that I’m too much like you dad.”

“You can see one of my stores! We can ask her to keep the kids and make an adult trip out of it.”

“Can we have hotel sex?” Jax asks, smirking.

“Baby, we can have all of the hotel sex and office sex and store sex and any other kind of sex we want.”

“Nothing to fancy, like 2 and half, 3 stars.” He says. “Wait, Office? Dressing room?”

“Actually, I have an apartment in New York for when I’m there for work.”

“New York apartment sex?”

“Duh. You can see where Soph grew up, well until we moved to Hershey.”

“You went to New York when you left?”

“Yep, NYU. That’s where I started my business before it expanded all across the world. I have stores in all 50 states, the meeting I have in New York is with a company overseas.”

“You’re expanding? Is that gonna take you away from us?”

“No, Jax. This expansion will help me work from home. I can do the designs, have them preproduced and shipped to Charming, make all final edits, and get it into production. It might help it go faster, actually. I’ve been thinking about opening a store here in Charming too, one that I can make home base. New York offices will always be headquarters though, but I don’t have to be there. That’s why I have managers and appointed editors.”

“Baby, I don’t know what any of that means.”

“Well it means I’m the big boss.”

“But do you have to go to New York all the time?”

“Not all of the time but the trips to New York will happen frequently while I’m working on expanding to other countries.”

“Oh. Well, as long as I can come with you. And if not me then Happy. He wouldn’t let you get hurt.”

“Jax knock it off. I lived in New York for 2 years by myself before I even met Darren. I do not need a babysitter nor do I want one. I will go alone if you can’t come.”

“I’m serious babe. Happy is gonna come with you if I can’t. I don’t want anything I take you from me or the kids.”

“Jackson, this is my work. I worked my ass off for this and I’m not letting you get in the way of it.”

“Happy can fit himself into some small spaces. He was playing hide and seek with Sophia once. He fit into the space between the Bar and the fridge.

“Jax stop. Let’s finish looking at the house. I’m don’t talking about this right now.”

“Alright, let's go see what room Sophia might want.”

“Okay.” I mumble, following behind him, knowing that a fight was going to break out later.

“So what do you guys think?” The realtor asks.

“Jax?”

“I love it!”

“So do I, and so will the kids.”

“Great!” The realtor says. “If you want to make a down payment today, you can move in as soon as next week.”

“Actually, we are going to pay in full.” I say, going into business mode.

“Ari, we didn’t talk about that. We still haven’t sold the other house.”

“We are good financially.” I argue.

“But what are we going to do with two houses? We can’t live in both.”

“Rent it out or sell it or something. Jax I don’t want to bullshit around with waiting and payments. We want the house, and I have the money so we are getting it.”

“When can we move in?” Jax asks the realtor.

“As soon as the paperwork is finished and the check is in.”

“Great, we will fill out the paperwork tonight and get a check from the bank. Thanks for your help.” I say, holding out my hand to shake hers.

“You’re welcome!” She says, shaking my hand.

“We need to talk.” Jax says as we leave.

“About what? Jax, you and I both agreed this was the one. We can sell the other house, make a profit, and invest it in the kids going to college.”

“Yeah, but I’m supposed to be the one paying for a new house.” Jax says.

“Don’t pull that sexist bullshit with me. We both know you wouldn’t be able to afford this house. We are getting the house we want so chill. It’ll be fine baby.”

“I wanted to pay for it, Ari. Please, let me pay for something.”

“Jax, you’ll be helping with bills and your name will be on the house too. Calm down, baby.”

“It was supposed to be our house.”

“It is.”

“Well it seems like you are making all of the decisions.”

“Do you not want to sign the papers, Jax? I want this house, Jax. It’s perfectly perfect. And we can make it our own with the kids. I want this with you.”

“I want the house, I just don’t want you paying the whole bill for it.”

“Do you remember what you used to joke about when we were younger?” I ask, wrapping my arms around him.

“What?” He asks, refusing to hug me back.

“You said you wanted a sugar mama. Well, baby, you got one.” I laugh.

“I was joking. I could never do that to you, darlin’.”

“Just hug me, dammit.” I say, as he wraps his arms around me.

“It’ll be fine. Plus I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to be in our own house where we can have sex wherever we want.” I laugh.

“Oh, you bet your ass we will be christening every room in this house. Minus the kids’ rooms.”

“I’m looking forward to it, baby.” I wink. “Let’s get back to the kiddos and fill out the paperwork. We gotta go to the bank tomorrow and get the check. Sophia might be sad to leave Gemma’s though, she really likes it there.”

“I’ll miss it too, but I think I’m going to like us having a place of our own more. Sophia will love it here.” Jax says, kissing my head.

“I agree. Sophia will love it here. Do you think the guys would be willing to help you pack up the house? I don’t think I can ever step foot in there again.”

“Of course, baby. We can ask them tonight when we announce our engagement.”

“Wait, we are announcing it today?”

“Yep. It’s Sunday baby. You know what that means.”

“Fuck. I forgot about dinner.”

“We go every day, and you forgot about dinner? It’s the only meal you eat.”

“I’ve had a lot on my mind with the business expansion.”

“I get that. Come on, I bet Sophia is wondering where we are.”

“I wanna tell Gemma before we announce it to everyone.”

“Like she’s the queen of England. She knows first.”

“I want to tell her we will be moving out and that we got engaged. She’s like a mother to me and I want her to know first.”

“I know she is, baby. I wish your dad was here, he would be so proud of you.”

“Ugh, don’t bring him up or I will be a bawling mess. We don’t want me to look like I smoked a bunch of weed.”

“A cute bawling mess, that I love very much.”

“I love you too. Speaking of weed though, do you remember when we used to sneak out and get super baked on the roof of the clubhouse?”

“I remember one time my dad caught us, and then asked if he could join.”

“Oh my gosh! I remember that. We were so scared we were in deep shit. I was like 13!”

“You were about to cry and beg him for forgiveness. And he just said as long as I know you’re safe, and you save me some. Just don’t tell your mother I let you.”

“I miss him, Jax. It’s been 10 years, and I think about him every single day. He would have loved Sophia.”

“Me too, baby. But I’m sure he’s proud of us and glad that we ended up together. He used to joke with your dad that we would grow up and get married.”

“My dad hated you, Jax.” I laughed. “That is why he said he would pay me NOT to marry you, anyone but you! Do you remember when he tried to set me up with that Hale kid?”

“Baby, he changed his mind about me by the time he died. He realized even before we did that we would be good together.”

“I wish he could see how far I’ve come. You, Jax, helped me get his far. Sophia and I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you.”

“Actually, I think you wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the dead guy i found in my bed with his pants down, but I’m glad you came back.”

“I’m glad I did too.” I smile.

“We better get back to Gems.” Jax says.

“Yeah. We should get back, eat dinner, and help Sophia pack.” I reply.

“I think we should repaint and decorate before we move in. Get new furniture and the works.” Jax says, holding my hand over the console.

“What color do you want to paint, Jax? Gonna spend your days doing outlaw stuff and your nights painting your house?”

“Yep!” Jax laughs. “I don’t know what color I want the rooms but we for sure gotta paint Phia’s room purple and Abel’s room blue.”

“Abel should get a racecar room, he loves race cars.”

“He’s still too small for the racecar bed, Ari.”

“I didn’t mean the bed. I meant the theme.”

“Okay. The guys can help and I’m sure Gemma will help with furniture. You know how much she loves design.” Jax says.

“Yeah, her and I are going to be busy.”

“She can probably help with the wedding.”

“Baby, let’s worry about getting moved into the house before we start worrying about a wedding. Plus I want a super small ceremony if we have one at all. Just family.”

“Does that include the club?”

“Yes, Jax. They are Sophia’s Uncles. I’ve grown up with the club Jax. Hell, you can even invite OPie. I know you guys made up at Phias party. The club is family.”

“I’m glad, baby. I’m so glad you are okay will all of the club stuff. I don’t know if I could take being pulled between you and the club.”

“I don’t have another choice but to be okay with the club stuff, Jax. I love you, no matter what you do.”

“Still. I love you.”

“Love you too.” I smile, pecking him on the cheek.

“Let’s get some food in your belly.” Jax says, laughing as my stomach growls.

“Thank god!” I laugh.

“If you would eat more than once a day, I bet you’d be fine.”

“Hey, gotta watch this figure. I’m already pudgy.”

“I like it.”

“I don’t. Plus now I’m not working out and jogging as much as I was in Hershey and I’m putting on the weight. I don’t wanna be fat when you look like that, Jax.” I sigh, crossing my arms.

“There’s a gym, I can have Rat go with you if you want to work out. I like you, babe, all of you.”

“JAX! I can do things on my own!”

“The club has a lot of enemies, excuse me for wanting to keep my wife around!”

“Lyla and I can go together. We don’t need babysitters.”

“That could work.”

“It’s going to work. I’m not signing up for being followed constantly, Jax. I need space of my own.”

“Half Sac was shitty at that. He waved at Piney one time. He wasn’t even supposed to get caught. I know you need space, I just don’t want you to be alone right now. I’m sorry, it won’t be forever.”

“Jax, it’ll always be like this. I need my freedom.”

“Girl time, right?”

“Yes! And adult time, I gotta get back to work I’m going crazy sitting around doing nothing.”

“So, what do girls talk about? Sex? Makeup?”

“Sex. Periods. Babies. Kids. Wine. You name it and we talk about.”

“One time, I heard Ma talking to one of her friends about blending out eyeshadow. What does that even mean?”

“It’s harder than it sounds. It’s just making a Smokey eye like I have on.”

“Well, thanks, baby, but I think I’d scare the kids with the bags and dark circles under my eyes.” I laugh.

“You don’t scare me. So what kind of sex do you guys talk about?”

“We compare, talk about positions, new things we try in the bedroom, and stuff like that.” I laugh.

“Do you guys have naked pillow fights?” Jax laughs.

“Oh yeah baby, especially when you’re gone.”

“Damn. Maybe one of these days I should stick around.”

“Hmmm I don’t know. I quite enjoy my naked pillow fights with my girlfriends.”

“Lylas a porn star, she does girl on girl. Bet she’d be fun to have a pillow fight with.” Jax laughs, pulling me closer to him once we are out of the car.

“How do you know that she would? Maybe she and OPie have naked pillow fights.”

“Well, I’m sure Opie wouldn’t mind you having a naked pillow fight with his extremely hot girlfriend.”

“I wouldn’t mind having a pillow fight with Opies extremely hot girlfriend either.” I laugh at the shocked expression on Jax’s face. “I always did want to experiment with girls. Never got the chance seeing as how I had Sophia, didn’t get the real college experimentation.”

“Oh, baby, we can make it happen.” Jax sighs, adjusting himself in his pants.

“The thought of you with another girl turns me on.”

“Then maybe I should call Kelsey. She swings both ways. I bet she’d love to have a naked pillow fight.”

“Loved it! Actually we decided to buy it.” I smiles.

“That’s awesome baby!” Gemma smiles, taking a moment to pull me into a hug.

“Jax and I have some new to tell you.”

“What’s that?” Gemma asks, going back to stirring the food.

“We are engaged!” Jax exclaims.

“What!?” Gemma yells, turning around to look at us, huge smile on her face.

“Yeah, happened this morning. We wanted to tell you before we told everyone else.”

“I’m so happy for you guys! Y’all are going to make the best husband and wife. JT and your daddy called it, Ari. I used to tell them that Ari wouldn’t get mixed up with the likes of you but I was wrong and gladly so.”

“My daddy always did know what was best for me, whether I wanted to admit it or not. But if I remember correctly he hated Jax. When did he say that?”

“The day he died. Said if his daughter was gonna be with any club member, it should be his best friends son. He also wanted me to give you something.” Gemma said, walking over to a locked cabinet and pulling out a small box. “He bought it for your mother, but then she started using again. Said if anything happened to him, he wanted whoever was asking you to marry them to have it to ask you with. It was your grandmothers ring. I would have given it to Jackson if he told me anything about asking you.”

“I didn’t know it was gonna happen, Ma.” He says, and looks down at the ring in the box.

“I kind of asked him in a way. We were talking about me making Abel officially mine and marriage came up and it just happened.”

“Your grandma had great taste, babe.” Jax says, picking the ring up out of the box and grabbing my hand before getting .

“Jax, are you-” He cut me off.

“Ariana Elizabeth Wilson will you make the happiest biker in the whole world and marry me?”

“Of course, baby!” I scream, pulling him up for a kiss.

“Mommy! Why are you screaming in the house, that’s for outside.” Sophia says, coming into the kitchen with Clay trailing behind her, trying to catch his breath.

“Daddy and mommy are getting married!” Jax yells, swinging Sophia up and into a hug.

“Like Tommy and I did?” Sophia asks.

“Kind of, but more official.” Jax responds.

“Tommy and I are official daddy.”

“Nope, it’s not on paper.” Jax says

“I write his last name on my papers daddy. It’s official.”

“You do? Is it gonna be official forever?”

“Yep! My name is Sophia Alvarez now.” She mispronounces Alvarez. “I can’t quite say his last name yet though.”

“Jax isn’t that adorable!” I squeal.

“I don’t like it. He better not hurt you.”

“Daddy we are 6. He isn’t going to hurt me. We play on the playground together and he always lets me play with him and his friends.”

“Okay, baby.” I smile, pinching Jax’s side to make him stay quiet. “Right, Jax?”

“Yeah.” He sighs.

“Can I be the flower girl?” Sophia asks.

“Wouldn’t have it any other way baby.” Jax replies kissing her forehead.

“What about Abel?” Sophia asks.

“He’s going to carry the rings.” I reply.

“Can I hold his hand?”

“Yep!” Jax smiles. “Alright you go play with Kenny, Ellie, and Lylas son.”

“Okay, Daddy! Mommy your ring is pretty.” She smiles, running off to play with the other kids.

“Y’all are gettin’ hitched?” Clay asks, walking over to us.

“Yep, as of this morning.”

“About damn time, son.” Clay laughs, slapping Jax on the back before pulling him in for a hug.

“Did you know my dad, Clay?”

“Sure did. Not for as long as Gemma or JT though. We were both part of the original 9 but I didn’t grow up with him like Gemma and JT. But I do know he’d be happy as hell right now. Him and JT used to joke about you two all the time, once you got older though of course.”

“So I’ve heard.” I smile, hugging him. “Will you tell me about him? From what you remember? I only got the dad side of him not the person side. I wanna know who he was.”

“Anything and everything.”

“Thanks, Clay.” I smile, hugging him again.

“Dinner is finished.” Gemma says, breaking some of the sadness in the room. “Ari, you and Jax go set the table.”

“Sure thing, Gem.” I smile, pulling Jax out of the room with me. I start putting the plates out on the table while Jax goes behind me with silverware.

“This is so domestic.” Jax laugh, reaching out for me once the silverware are on the table.

“Who knows, maybe one day we will be hosting Sunday dinner at our house.” I smile, wrapping my arms around his neck, the ring catching the light causing me to smile. He picks me up by the back of my thighs, pulling me into a kiss.

“I hope we do.” Jax murmurs against my lips, hugging my body tighter to him, I wrap my legs around his hips.

“I’m sure we will.”

“Hey! Break it up in here!” Bobby yell, coming into the room.

“Bro, I’m allowed to kiss my fiancé if I want to.” Jax laughs, shoving his face in my neck making me giggle.

“Fiancé?” Bobby asks, smile spreading across his face.

“Yep! It happened kind of fast this morning but we decided to get married.” I smile, still clinging to Jax. “Put me down.”

“I don’t wanna.” Jax whines. I laugh when he puts me down.

“I’m happy for ya Jackie boy! You too lass.” Chibs says, pulling us both into a hug, followed by Bobby, Tig, Juice, Happy, Kozik, and Opie.

“I’m happy for ya brother.” Opie says, reaching out to shake his hand. Jax smacks his hand and pulls him into a hug instead.

“Thanks, brother.” Jax says.

“This is so exciting!” Lyla squeals, wrapping her arms around.

“I’m so excited!” I exclaim, hugging her just as tight.

“I think this calls for the good stuff!” Clay says, walking into the room carrying shot glasses and a bottle of bourbon. He sets them on the table before heading back to get the rest of the shot glasses and grabbing Gemma.

“To the happy couple!” Clay exclaims, raising his shot glass and clinking it with the rest.

“I’m so happy for you guys, baby.” Gemma smiles taking her shot. “Now, who’s hungry? Party at the clubhouse to celebrate after dinner?” Gemma suggests.

“Hell yeah!” Everyone exclaims.

“I say we take shots!” Lyla yells over the music.

“I shouldn’t. The last time I drank, Jax and I fought. I don’t want a repeat.”

“We are celebrating. I’m sure Jax won’t mind. Why don’t we ask him? He’s taking shots right now.” Lyla says, pointing over my shoulder.

“Well, fuck. Let’s get Gemma and get some shots going!” I exclaim.

“YESSS!” Lyla exclaims running off while I make my way over to Jax.

“Hey, baby. We going to crash here tonight? Phil offered to stay with the kids all night.” I say, as he pulls me in between his legs.

“Hell yeah! Take some shots with us?” He asks, brushing my hair out of my face.

“Actually, I’m going to do shots with Gemma and Lyla.”

“Take one with us first, right guys?” Jax asks, looking toward the guys.

“Fuck yeah!” The guys yell, Half Sac pouring the shots.

“To Ari and Jax!” Chibs yells, clinking his glass with ours before we all down the shots.

“Let’s smoke a J.” Jax laughs, standing up and dragging me with him.

“I’ll be back in a few!” I yell to Lyla as I pass her and Gemma. “Jax wants to smoke.”

“I’m having a hard time.” Jax whines, trying to roll the joint.

“Let me do it.” I laugh, taking over. “Here, you can light it.”

“I love you. You’re the bestest.” He says, reaching out to put his hand on my thigh.

“How many shots did you take?”

“I lost count, but this is where you say I love you too.”

“I love you too, Jax.” I laugh, taking a hit.

“Hey, Ari, guess what.”

“What baby?” I ask, smiling at him.

“You’re my favoritest person in the whole entire world.”

“And you are mine, drunky.” I laugh, puffing on the joint.

“I’m not drunky, but I think you’re really really pretty. If you weren’t engaged, I’d totally bang you.”

“I’m engaged… to you, silly.”

“No way! I get to bang you later?!”

“Hell yeah, baby.” I giggle, the weed making me laugh more than necessary.

“Let’s go back to our friends before they get drunk without us.” Jax says, taking the last hit of the joint and putting it out.

“Lead the way, baby.” I smile, smacking his ass for once.

“Hey, I’m an engaged man.”

Testimony

Hello friends, I just felt I needed to share this with you all. This season is certainly a season of favor for all of us. A season of favor we must claim in the name of the Lord. But does that mean we will always be strong to the persistent push of worldly worry’s and stressors?

This semester I had to quit one of my jobs. It was an overnight position and it was decided in my family that I would be the one to quit and help out with my special needs sister. At this point, I had never worked only one job before. I’ve always worked two or sometimes three jobs to make sure my family was covered. Long story short, my dad wasn’t working and it was just my mom and I for the longest time.

This semester I start my final year in my university program. Which is very demanding, having us go out into the community and essentially work future workers in our field. So it was just felt that working overnights with nearly daily schoolwork to attend to and my sister in the evenings wouldn’t work. So this plan was enacted. I was certain we would be fine but after some trouble at my moms workplace, she is out on workman’s comp. None of us know what’s going on regarding that.

This semester is certainly a struggle of faith. Especially with concerns of bills and utilities. Sometimes I forget that praise in these times is needed. I sometimes forget that praying to God in my time of need is important. How else will my father know what I need if I don’t ask Him?

It has been stressful not working two jobs and having the security I’m used too. This past week i ended up overdrawn and worried about two payments and a phone bill that was coming out. And when I looked to my bank account, I found funds in it.

I was wondering why I had anything in it. Last I looked I was overdrawn. So I called my company I work for, I am a caregiver, and asked why I was paid a week early. Here was her response:

“I don’t know if you were told this, but our Medicare staff is getting an extra $3 for every hour they work from August to the end of the year. You will get paid in the offset week of your check date. So that money does belong to you.”

I had been told earlier in august and such. But I had completely forgotten. All this time I spent worrying and being concerned about how I would make things work was suddenly very silly of me. For input, they’ve never done anything like this before. This is a new thing they apparently are doing.

Now it may seem silly that this would be a testimonial. But I do feel in my heart that God placed favor on me and others in this company. I feel like I am able to do more now that I have been financially blessed.

Another call of the Lord is a friend from a business asked if I was available temporarily to help with paperwork. I would be paid a great sum and I’m allowed up to 40 hours a week. While it is temporary, I believe it is His calling to me that He is listening.

And it just seemed that todays verse from James 5 was perfect. “Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.” James 5:13

Today I choose to praise him. I am a sinner, I am a doubter but I am never a non believer. Our God will take care of us in ways we would never expect. In ways that don’t make sense to us.

“Good. Good. We are making great progress! Let’s see…we’ve covered allowances, groceries, school lunches, hmm…clothes!” Burt checked off his list as he went done it.  “I think we will go with Kurt’s clothing budget. Finn might like this.  I will buy 100 dollars’ worth of pants every other month. That might be one pair of pants or it might be several pairs of pants. If you wear it over your legs it is pants. On months I am not covering pants I will buy 100 dollars’ worth of tops.  It could be one top…shirt, sweater, sweatshirt, hoody…or it could be multiple tops. Undershirts are tops.  Long johns and thermals generally are considered pants, if bought in sets. I do not buy Halloween costumes anymore, save up for what you want or make it yourself. I will buy one ‘Christmas’ outfit in November…that is nice pants, button-up shirt, and a nice sweater of MY choice that are fit to wear to fancy dinners or parties that might come with the holiday season. I cover one swimsuit a year, one jacket a year, one winter coat under 250 every other year unless you outgrow yours, one pair of nice shoes…those could be nice boots, and one pair of gym type shoes, of a reasonable price. I don’t buy really expensive gym shoes. If you think you need those, you buy them yourself.  I do not completely cover uniforms.  I will pay for them, but you will work half of the cost off.  I buy 12 pairs of socks at the beginning of school and for Christmas and we check to see if any are needed for summer, if some are I also buy a pack of socks for summer.  I buy 8 to 10 pairs of underwear at the beginning of school and 4 to 5 pairs, depending on what comes in a pack, at Christmas and at the start of summer. You want more clothing, you pay for it yourself.  IF you don’t use all your clothing money for a month, you can talk me into adding the extra to your post high school account, but only that account. The household will cover half that for me. Carole, if you want to buy clothing from the family account that is the set up for you as well. This will cover plenty of clothing. In fact it can cover way more clothing than anyone really needs.”

“What about work clothes?” Carole asked.

Burt thought for a few moments.  “I buy Kurt’s and mine through the shop.  Doesn’t your job provide a clothing stipend?”

“Well, yeah, but…” Carole said.

“You bring me a list of what extra you need that isn’t covered by what your job gives you for it and we can work something out.”

“I just don’t see how that is fair…”

“Carole, you add just 50 percent of your income to the family account, after taxes and everything.  You have 50 percent to spend on whatever you would like.  As a household we cover kids clothing because one of the things parents do is provide clothing for their kids. The household provides some clothing for us.  You have money to provide beyond that for yourself.”

“I still think it is unfair.” Carole said.

“And I could go back to the lawyer and bank officials who helped set up this family account and have the official documents drop what I put in the family account to only 50 percent as well and make it more fair.” Burt said.  “They said to just come in and change that if I ever decided to since that was our legal agreement and I’m just putting in 70 percent to make family living easier.”

Kurt was taking notes.

“But how does Kurt get all his clothing?”  Finn yelled, slamming his fists on the table.

“I work, Finn.  I have a job.” Kurt answered.  “Actually, more than one.”

“A job?” Finn responded incredulously.

“Yeah, a job. It pays me and I use that money to buy myself stuff.  I also plan and shop sensibly and save and shop around. I often can buy six or seven shirts with the hundred bucks my dad gives me for shirts, one wonderfully awesome month I bought seven pairs of pants with Dad. It was glorious. The money Dad gives for clothing is not a small amount, and definitely not if you are wise.”

“Moving on, we come back to that topic though, so think through if there is really more you want to say. And the topic of jobs will be coming up!” Burt said before anyone could speak more on jobs. “Money wise we still need to cover outings and other items. We covered father and son outings, once a month for each of you boys…under 100 for Finn except twice a year. No spending limit on Kurt for this next year at least, except Kurt…be reasonable.  No big trips.  A father son outing may not be a trip to New York or Disneyland or anything like that.”

“Chicago?”  Kurt asked.

“Maybe, we’d have to see why.”

“One of the big races?” Kurt asked.

“In Ohio?  Yes.  I’ll have to think about others.”

Kurt nodded.

“I am willing to fund two large family outings…family vacations.  One if out of state. None if the whole family isn’t included.  We can discuss smaller family outings.  I might be willing to do several of those, it will be a ‘we will see’ deal.  It will greatly depend on the circumstances of life when the ideas are brought up.”

“What kind of circumstances?” Finn asked.

“If you had good grades, if you were behaving decently, if you hadn’t broken rules for a while, if you had kept up with your chores, those types of circumstances. Family Vacations are a treat, not a necessity.”

Finn tossed his head back and groaned.

“Ok.  Other money items. If you break something around the house, you replace it.  If I have to pay for it, you will work off the cost. I don’t cover your cell phone payments. If you want me to cover your cell phone payment, your cell phone will be a one of those inexpensive little phones you buy and then buy cards to put minutes on it or we will do a monitored family plan.  Do not rent movies on the TV.  If you do you will pay for them.  You may ask and IF I agree I will do the renting of it.  Do not add channels, do not order pay-per-view games. DO NOT ADD to the TV BILL.  If you do, you will be paying the whole of the next month’s TV bill yourself.”

“But..” Finn started.

“No. If you seriously want to watch a game we don’t get, you come and ask.  IF you haven’t asked for a while, I might think about it and say yes. IF you make a habit of asking, I will even get rid of the sports channels I have added.”

Finn nodded.

“We cover all school class fees under 30 bucks, over 30 you cover half your fee.  So, we cover your class fees if you have them for all classes except…what class was that Kurt?”

“Photography had a 35 dollar fee and a 20 dollar rental if you didn’t have your own digital camera. All the other classes are under 30. Oh, except driver’s ed.”

“We will be discussing driver’s ed. in a little bit.” Burt said. “The family account will pay your basic student fee. You pay your sports fees.  I’ll cover your yearbook if you haven’t purchased it already.  The family account covers field trips and bus fees for those.  You pay your own parking fee. Next year for senior year we will cover your senior portraits, cap and gown, 100 graduation announcements, and 75 bucks worth of other graduation stuff. You cover the rest.  You cover dances. The family account covers school pictures, including the spring ones, but only the 30 buck and under packages.  Oh, and the family account will cover 100 dollars of hobby purchases every three months, although I can be talked into upping that amount around Christmas if you sell me a good enough reason and around county fair time if you sell me a good enough reason.  Anything else?  No? If someone thinks about something we can talk about it then.”

“I think we ought to do something the Hudson way.” Carole stated.

“Chores were next on my list,” Burt said.  “Did you want to do chores the Hudson way?”

“Yes!” shouted Finn.

“Not really.” Said Carole. “I’ve been trying to get Finn to do chores for years.”

Burt smiled.  “I do need suggestions on how to split them up and if we want to rotate chores or stick with chores that are just ours.”

“Rotate.” Kurt said.

“Have chores that are just ours,” said Finn. “I will have ‘take out the garbage’ and I’ll only have to do the kitchen when it is full.  That is it.”

“Yeah, no.” Burt said.

“What do you mean, we?” Carole said.

“I mean we.  I realized that I have to do more daily chores around the place or I’ll be screwed when Kurt goes off to college. ALL of us will be getting some chores.”

“But Burt, we work.” Carole said.

“So does Kurt.”

“But…”

“Carole, who did chores at the Hudsons?” Burt asked.

“I did.”

“And you did so while working.”

“Yes.”

“So you can do so here. I am serious about this.  When Kurt was off at Dalton, no one did anything until it was shameful around here.  I was used to it being done. I don’t know what you two’s excuse was. That won’t happen again.  We all get chores.  So Kurt start making some lists.”

Kurt pulled a sheet out of his notebook he was writing in and started a list.

“I figure who ever cooks wipes down the stove and counters when done cooking.  Pots and pans go in with the dishes. Someone needs to set and clear and wash the table.  Someone needs to sweep and vacuum the living areas.  We need the main floor bathroom kept clean, trash picked up, things dusted. Trash taken out and sidewalks kept clear.  Bedrooms and bathrooms kept clean.”

“Hmm….”Kurt said. “When are you checking chores are done, Dad?”

“I always checked at about 10pm before.”

Kurt nodded.

“Should we go back to baskets on the stairwells?”

Burt thought for a moment and nodded.

“Ok.  How does this sound?  One chore list would be pick-up the living room and TV room down stairs and vacuum. The next would be pick-up and vacuum the dining room and set and clear the table.  The third would be keep the bathroom down here tidy and fresh and take out the trash throughout the house except the bedrooms, we take out our own bedroom trash…including taking the bin to the road on pick-up days, this person could also shovel the sidewalk on snowy days or water in summer.  The final list is washing the dishes and put them away and sweep and pick-up the kitchen.  Everyone keeps their bedroom and the other bathrooms clean and if we can’t manage to do that without one person taking the brunt, Finn and I can switch off bathroom days and you and Carole can switch off bathroom days. Everyone makes their own breakfast or you could pay 50 cents if someone wakes up and makes a full breakfast for everyone. You wash your own breakfast and lunch dishes. We can look at other chores like weeding and such come summer to see if they can become weekend chores and maybe have a different pay for those less heavy weekend chores that I’d been doing daily but didn’t necessarily need done daily.”

Finn looked at Kurt. “Like, that doesn’t seem to have too much on any one list.”

“It doesn’t.  IF you keep things picked-up to start with and do things daily it’s not that hard to keep things up.  We’ll go back to baskets, too.  We’ll get laundry baskets and I’ll put our names on them and when you are cleaning your area and you come across someone’s stuff, you put it in the basket.  Then when you go to your room, you pick-up your basket and take it with you, put your stuff away, and then bring back your basket so it can be filled again.”

“You said laundry baskets. What about laundry?”  Finn asked.

“We do our own.” Kurt said firmly.  “I will NOT do your laundry; in fact I prefer only ever seeing MY unmentionables, thank you very much. I do my laundry on Saturdays.  Dad does his on Tuesdays when he had his off hours.  You can pick any other day.  I will teach you how to do this.  This is an important life skill, Finn.  Do you want to go around with pink underwear for half your first year of college because you never learned how to do laundry?”

“Pink underwear?” Finn asked.

“Yes.  Read any blog out there about guys’ first year living without their mom…PINK UNDERWEAR.  Imagine trying to get somewhere with your girlfriend and having to explain that.” Kurt said.

“Is Friday nights good? Like late, so I won’t be having to get home too early? Or would that like be too little time?” Finn asked in a fearful voice.

Kurt looked disdainfully at Finn’s clothing.  “I think we can get your wash done in one evening.  Friday night sounds great.  I’ll buy you a clothing hamper…all your own…for the room.  No charge for teaching you to do laundry or the hamper.”

Burt smiled and Carole looked shocked.

“I’ll take Thursdays,” Carole said quietly.

Kurt smiled and made note in his notebook.  “Did we decide to rotate chores?” Kurt asked.

“I think we will rotate, how does for a whole week sound?”  Burt asked.

Carole nodded and Finn agreed.  “I think I can do most of those without it being too hard.”

Kurt smiled condescendingly at Finn.  “I’m glad.”

“Wait, like…do we have a dishwasher here?”  Finn asked.

Kurt rolled his eyes and wrote more down.  

“Yes, Finn,” Burt said. “We have a dishwasher and I will teach you how to run it.”

They match my mother's behavior My mother hasn't paid a bill in the last 19 years of her life. My father always did them because she couldn't remember to pay her credit card bill at the end of the month. My father, in trying to clean up her stuff because shes a horder, was yelled at for touching her things, but she refused to clean herself. She laid in bed all day while my father fed and took care of us. My mother even once said that she doesn't see my father as a partner, she sees him as a superior When she kicked my father out of the house, my mother refused to go out shopping for grocreys, she rathered go out to the mall with her friends while the kids where home eating quesadillas because we literally only had cheese, tortillas, and rotting veggies in the fridge. That weekend my dad took us grocrey shopping, she was furious for undermining her She refused to work, refused to pay the bills, she refused to clean up her shit, and was seemingly incapable of taking care of the children. I was once so sick I was unable to fucking walk, and she didn't believe me and made me take care of my sister while she went drinking And now that my parents are divorced, she found another man to do all this shit so she doesn't have to be responsible. There's another man raising her daughter because she doesn't want to leave her bed This isn't a "straight women" issue. Painting it as one can seriously harm people and their views on their own relationships. Everyone should be wary of people who cant function independently dammit.
