“Ethan, look at the camera!”

He stares at his phone, watching through the ‘movies’ you used to film at his house when you were younger. Your voice sounds squeaky, matching his at the time. The video is blurry, but he can see his own goofy pose through the pixels as you turn the camera to him, and then here comes his favourite part, when you turn the camcorder and set it on the coffee table and he can see you and him sitting on the floor of his family living room.

“Introduce yourself, come on!”

“Ethan?” A knock on his bedroom door forces him to shut off his device and hug it to his chest, leaning back against his headboard.

“Yeah?” He responds to the all-too familiar voice, you, on the other side of the wood, opening the door.

“Um—“ You squint your eyes at him, as if you’d heard the sounds coming from his phone. Shit, did you hear? “You have any plans tonight?” You don’t mention the way he’s visibly relieved when you ask.

“No, why?” He’s back at ease with you again, pushing back the thoughts of a future with you to the back of his mind.

“Dinner?”

“I want wings,” He confesses.

You chuckle at his admission, knowing he’d been dieting because he began regularly going to the gym with Chad. (Which, honestly, was a treat to your eyes—but he’d never know.)

“I’ll get wings.” You pull out your phone to order, then adding, “I won’t tell Chad.” Before you leave and close the door.

He runs his hands down his face. Why did he think becoming roommates with you was a good idea? Oh, right, because you promised each other when you were kids.

It’s not the fact that you’re roommates. It’s that you’re just roommates, at least at this moment. But you’re also each other’s best friend since childhood—a connection that neither of you plan to change.

He watches through the video folder he has, titled, ‘y/n and ethan’ consisting of the videos you two filmed with a shitty camcorder at his dad’s house.

It was a time capsule of sorts—the videos progressed and the two of you grew up—but as time passed, the entries became less frequent. The last time was before you both separated for the first two years of college, when you went to study abroad. But you came back, reminded him of the promises you both made; telling him ‘the offer is still on the table.’ and he ended up moving in with you as per the plans you made as children.

This year of living together has been like if nothing ever changed, like you never went anywhere else, never spent two years apart from him. Though, there are flashes of uncertainty. Cracks in your demeanor that leaves him wondering if he truly knows you still.

Each moment where you mention someone in your life he doesn't know, he feels a sting. And on top of that, he feels guilt. How can he stay in your life keeping this secret from you? It eats at him.

He's in love with you. There's no denying that. The problem lies in how long he can hold it in, out of fear of ruining what he has with you. But knowing you, you would probably reject him so nicely that he wouldn't notice. There is no chance you'd feel the same, he thinks.

You both eat wings on the couch, watching your favorite movie. Neither of you care about the close distance, shoulders touching and hands brushing against each other when the movie ends and you begin to cleanup.

In the kitchen disposing of trash, you lean against a counter while he gets busy tidying up the kitchen. He can feel your stare on him, burning.

"Are you just gonna stand there?" He laughs, but there's a waiver in his voice that is hard to miss.

"Were you watching the videos of us? You know. Earlier."

His heart pounds in his ears. "Yeah. Why?" He doesn't see a point in lying anymore.

You sigh, "I miss you too, you know."

His head snaps up to meet yours, a longing gaze in your eyes.

That's when he realizes that you've stepped closer, your warmth practically radiating off your figure. His mind blanks.

"I feel like I've been..." You pause to think, "I don't know. Distant?"

Between the two of you, you were always the more honest one. A trait he admires, a reason to look up to you. You never shy away from a conversation when it's needed.

Ethan's mind jumps to a worst case scenario. Multiple, actually. Why are you telling him this? You're about to break bad news to him, aren't you?

Reading the uncertainty in his eyes, you continue.

"Something's changed." You shrug, looking to him for an answer.

"No, why--why would you say that?"

"I'm sorry, E."

His brows furrow. Now he's even more confused.

"I feel like I don't know how to fucking act around you anymore."

Woah. Now where did that come from?

His shoulders slump at the mere though of you not wanting to be around him. Did he do something wrong? Are you uncomfortable?

You mumble something inaudible.

"What?" He whispers, almost breathless.

"IthinkI'minlovewithyou."

He's certain his heart stopped beating. He needs to get his ears checked, surely.

"Can--can you say that again?"

You stare at him through your lashes, a frown forming on your lips. He wants nothing more than to wipe it off you, but first he needs to make sure he heard you correctly.

"I'm in love with you." You stop looking at his eyes, unable to face him. "And I'm sorr--"

He engulfs you in a hug before you can finish.

"Don't ever be sorry," He tightens his hold, and you reciprocate. "I thought--I didn't think you'd ever feel the same."

He can physically feel you relaxing.

"You're an ass."

That gets a laugh out of him. "Why?"

"You made me say it again."

"You know what? I'll make you a deal."

"Yeah? Is it a good deal? Don't try to scam me."

He smiles, though you can't see it because your eyes are closed, too focused on the feeling of his arms around you. "I'll tell you how much I love you for as long as you want."

"Give me a timeframe."

"For the rest of our lives, hm? Deal?"

"Deal."

YESSSS I DO!!! he's not apart of this AU but he is a big part of my mansion AU 'cus he's besties w laughing jack!!! and laughing jack loves dragging him along whenever they go to vacation...

william is a 21 yr old college student living in a shitty apartment w frankie (frankie's a secret hitman and rooms with william as a cover). he's a trans male, homosexual n goes by he/him pronouns rahhhh. he's pretty childish due to his lack of a proper childhood.

in terms of how good of a roommate he is... uhm. he's not a good roommate at all. he pays 25% of the rent, rarely cleans, and he's best friends with rats. which means frankie cannot exterminate the rodents in their apartment because william has befriended them.

william gets his money from three things.

1. laughing jack brings him things from the mansion to sell online.

2. william does anything for money. whether it be eating dirt off of someone's shoe or waving a hat in front of people on the streets.

3. his job at tim horton's.

he tends to spend his money on art supplies, random trinkets, and cheese for his rats.

william wholeheartedly wants to be a killer. he loves true crime and practically worships serial killers. if he had tumblr, he would post mood boards of jeff the killer... thing is, while william can be an edgelord, he's too much of a pussy to ever kill someone. his violent thoughts are intrusive and a result of previous trauma. he thinks he relates to serial killers; but he doesn't.

anyway here's some smaller headcanons. ask me to elaborate and i just might...

LJ does william's eyeliner. william didn't like it at first but now he keeps begging LJ to do his eyeliner for him.

william is autistic + has ADHD

he is allergic to peanuts

william graduated high school with a 2.8 GPA. he was mostly bullied for being "odd" in the eyes of his classmates

he listens to true crime podcasts

his rats are not his pets. his rats are his best friends.

LJ met william when william was dumpster diving in an alleyway

william has a one sided crush on frankie. like a schoolyard crush, nothing serious. william's always poking fun at him anyway.

he is unfortunately british.

he was born impoverished. because of that, he never wastes food! every scrap counts!

william is rather egotistical despite not having any achievements to his name... it's comedic, but also sad. LOL.

LJ, in addition to bringing back items to sell, also brings back food from the mansion! LJ normally has to sneak out to get to william's because... LJ is a troublemaker.

william's granny is a cokehead and great with a cane in battle

for that reason LJ is trying to get jason the toymaker to bring coke to william's granny so she can teach him how to use a cane like a fighter

william doesn't know what to do about that so he just lets it happen

william has ear piercings! they're pierced by frankie i'd like to think

I love love love your latest alignment chart! It was really cute but I had some thoughts on it and wanted to share! Specifically regarding the last ‘alignment’, being annoyed by your shyness and wanting you to be more confident.

I can somewhat understand the last one, that it can be frustrating when someone is so crippled by their own anxiousness that you feel the need to do everything for them, but at the same time, I’m like: If you’re so turned off/upset by one of your partner’s most prominent traits, why even date them at that point, y’know?

I’m sorry but I don’t think that those last four relationships are gonna last very long, no matter how much love you have for someone, unless change comes fast, I doubt that sort of dynamic would work long term.

In Ranpo’s case, his inability to read social cues and understand his partner’s struggle combined with the fact that he’s very vocal and blunt about his opinions and feelings, would probably lead to a pretty messy breakup where Ranpo’s left feeling frustrated, hurt and confused and his partner feeling sad, stupid and overdramatic (I’d feel stupid too if one of the smartest people in the world was visibly and vocally annoyed by my struggle.)

Now, Kunikida is an odd case, because while he’s a very good person and would be sympathetic, he holds his ideals and his schedule in such high regard that if repeated interruptions happened and kept happening due to this one ‘issue’, I think that he would eventually come to think it would be better for both parties if they split up. It’d be a somber and quiet thing and both would feel pretty shitty afterwards, with Kunikida wondering if he made the right choice and the partner blaming and beating themself up for ruining their relationship.

Fukuchi, in my opinion, sucks in general and the way his line is phrased, I’m pretty sure that he’d eventually just get fed up with his partner’s personality and dump them without warning because he’s an asshole like that and unpleasant surprises are his whole thing.

Mushitarou would probably last the longest because given his personality, you’d first of all need to be intimate friends with him to start dating in the first place and now, because you’re spending so much more time together, he’s only just noticing how bad your anxiety is and now that you feel comfortable enough to blatantly cling onto him, he’s also only now developing a proper dislike for your shyness. It’s like the childhood best friends who become roommates in college, ‘we’ve known each other for years, it’ll all be good!’ but because this new level of closeness introduces another side of a person, there’s a chance you’ll find that you’re not vibing with it. He’d try to make it work and there’s definitely a chance that it might but a likely possibility that it won’t and would end up resulting in a pretty bad breakdown which would leave both parties devastated for both the loss of a relationship and a friendship.

Now, I never said that getting back together wasn’t possible, I think that for everyone (except Fukuchi :/) there’s a chance that they could work things out and get back together but not for a LONG while. Because learning takes time and healing takes even longer.

Thank you for your analysis! We were thinking some very similar things-- I'm glad that what I was implying without saying was still coming through. There are absolutely some relationships on my previous alignment chart that would NOT last, including the four you mentioned and also a couple of others who infantalize the shy!reader too much. I didn't include it, in short, bc I didn't wanna be negative and it low-key upset me myself to ponder who would break up w me for being anxious :p

As much as I love Kunikida, there are certain details about his lifestyle that don't mix with someone who's incredibly shy/timid/anxious, etc. He can be sympathetic but after a certain point it conflicts with his idealism. He'd take it hard and consider it a fault of his own that he couldn't make the relationship work, but he also wants his partner to be with their ideal partner and he wants his ideal partner as well.

Ranpo works well in a friendship with shy people like Poe bc he can push someone out of their comfort zone by basking them in his own confidence and aloofness, but I think that he'd prefer his romantic partner "take care of him" to some extent at home and if they're too anxious to do things like run errands alone, take the train with him to show him how, etc. he would feel like his needs weren't being met. That's no one's fault, honestly. Sometimes you just gotta find the right fit.

When I think of Mushitaro I think of his late friend/partner and that awful conflict within him. He can't let himself feel guilty, but he does. He won't let himself feel remorseful, but he does. He can't show his emotions so unfortunately no one knows how much he cared about that person, but he cared so much and is so devastated by what he was asked to do and by the fact that he had no other choice. His friend needed to be released from his pain and by using Mushitaro's ability no one would get in trouble for his death, and his friend/partner wouldn't have to end it himself. I can't imagine the depths of pain Mushitaro feels and I also can't imagine him being in a relationship at all, regardless of the situation. He just can't handle the pain of losing someone again, and he isn't healed from the previous loss.

Fukuchi's was absolutely appalling and I hope no one stays in a relationship where your partner hates a large quality of your personality and constantly tells you that you need to change it!!! Don't put up with that!!! It's so incredibly harmful to your mental health. If your partner isn't trying to uplift and support you, please know that you deserve someone who does.

Logan Charles (in the JoJo's AU):

I did not expect an ask about Logan, the minor villain/major pain in the ass that keeps appearing in mine and my friend's aus but I'm so glad that I did because it got my friend to do a massive backstory dump under the cut.

Also here is my friend's @theiratlas take on this, since they're my co-creator for the AU and also Logan is originally from a story they wrote in high school so I got them to also do the bingo for him in the JoJo's AU and they sent this very different bingo because they actually knew his backstory before doing the bingo 😅

And they also sent this backstory description (under the read more) so like I hope you enjoy!

Logan had two friends. Darien, who we'll meet later in the story, and Lissa who we won't.

The three grew up together on and off for as long as Logan can remember, never quite growing as close as he wanted but proximity counts for a lot when you're young.

Logan was the oldest of three by a year or two and despite what you may think, he came from a pretty loving home. Parents with plenty of time for him and two friends who, when they were around, made Logan feel cool, rebellious, and most importantly important. He'd pick up Lissa's lunches and be around at whatever time of night Darien decided to answer his phone and offer to swing over.

Now, to jump ahead a little:

Darien and Lissa join up with the local college and Logan goes to med school just out of town and that is where everything went to shit. Logan a few hours into his first shift, gets a call from a payphone with Lissa's voice on it.

It took him 15 minutes to travel 30.

Lissa had taken the life of a childhood bully turned roommate. Logan had never even heard her name until today but there's broken glass in her throat so probably it's time to go, questions can wait. But for some reason Lissa won't let go of some dumb arrow. Says they need to pick up Darien first, says he'll know something.

He's only on campus and it's less than 2 minutes. Logan doesn't want to argue. It makes his head hurt to think about, but he just likes being in the loop for once.

Darien arrives with two bags, duffels filled with things from clothes and toiletries to a six pack of cider and a crowbar he found.

They drive for an hour before Darien finally breaks up the arguing. They're being followed. Lissa says she already knew. Logan has never been so angry in his life. He demands to know what the problem is. He demands to know why she won't let go of the arrow. He demands to be fucking told any damn thing in the form of a full sentence.

He shouts so loudly he ends up stalling his mum's car. It is then silent. Including their tail, finally having arrived, headlights beaming.

Darien takes a moment away from pulling the threads from his coat and calls out. It sounds like a name, but it is more like a command.

"Apocalypse Please!"

Darien, as quick as that, gets out of the car, awkwardly pulling a hat over his face with his hands up. Logan is utterly baffled, his rage only growing with each moment of ignorance. Lissa on the other hand is stuck in her seat belt. Trying to get out with a panic only matched by her grip on the arrow.

Instead of helping, Logan, in his biggest moment of weakness, pulls the arrow out from Lissa's grip, demanding to know what's so important about it.

He's not realised how badly he's cut her hand in the process. He's too busy being distracted by Darien sprinting at full speed away from what is first a rubber bullets and then a hoard of real zombies. Logan begins to panic.

Lissa, now unconscious, begins leaking smoke from her wound, and what starts as a small leak continues into a horror show of smog.

Logan tries his best to get her out of the car but in the dark of the smoke and the panic of what’s to come – Lissa ends up dying where she sat.

After interrogation, Logan would join the Speedwagon Foundation before realizing they had just as little interest in explaining what had happened to him as Darien and Lissa would have if they were here today.

That's when he started making his own phone calls. Afterall, he did keep that arrow.

from the ask that i answered a couple days ago:

soulmate aus that i was almost done with [completed!!!! a win for me!!!!]

like a box of chocolates [both svt and skz] - working title, not set in stone. similar to the flower fics i wrote for svt + trsr back in the day where they all have some kind of trope associated with each kind of chocolate.

bodyswap aus for skz + svt. [woozi for svt, lee know for skz]. - admittedly my plans are on pause because i never came up with group names for the fake idol groups i made up for each. basically soulmate au where they end up swapping bodies until they fall in love with the added complicated layer of both being in a small idol group.

i won't run away [lee know] - fem!reader follow-up to i can't run away [vernon fic] where reader moves on.

keep it simple, stupid! [paboracha] - paboracha are all mutually pining with their respective readers and the rest of skz makes a bet on who will realize its mutual the soonest and confess (or get confessed to). minho's in love with his roommate, hyunjin's in love with his best friend, jisung is in love with his study partner for class.

childhood friends -> lovers [seungmin] - a much more recent idea for seungmin in the same vein as when i grow up where it's snapshots of the two growing up together and falling in love. very much 'one falls first, the other falls harder.'

vague summer svt fic? [full group] - not to be released rn if i go for it, but i'm open to tossing ideas around for some summer-themed fics. might include skz (and if anyone's interested/i feel up to writing them, trsr) as well? it'd most likely be a july release just to give myself time to write all the fics and i'd probably give myself some sort of hard limit on how many words they can be.

chubby!fem!reader sculptor/muse [woozi] - jihoon is a grad school art student who needs to diversify his portfolio a Lot (man just keeps sculpting his best friend bc he offered to model for him). soonyoung goes 'i know someone' and gets reader in to be jihoon's new model and oops they start catching feelings for each other over time. also has mentions of past mingyu/reader.

more weird dreams

it's starting to fade now because i've waited too long to start writing it down, but i do remember some vague fragments. there was some scene at the beginning where i was being made to get into bed with a much older man and his wife but i was also disguised as his wife i think? but he kept touching me and i could tell he was naked under the covers and the other woman in the bed was gonna get up to go to the bathroom and leave us alone and i begged her to let me go with her and spent the whole night in the hallways outside the bathroom (also worth mentioning the bedroom was my parents room in my childhood home and the bathroom was placed in the exact way it was in my childhood home)

and then i was wandering in the snow down empty new jersey highways i've been lost on in other dreams (the port city i often dream about also made an appearance but i cant remember the context) and came to my high school except it looked different. i dont remember how he got there, but i wound up running into my first ex (the one who assaulted me) and he was the version of him i knew before we dated. he was funny and charming and after everything that had happened in the last part of the dream, i needed that comfort. he was so kind to me this time and i remember us walking outside together and him packing a snowball to throw at me and i stopped short and said "my mom cant see us together" because i knew her car was parked nearby and she was waiting to pick me up. he asked why not and i couldnt bring myself to say "because she knows you raped me" because i was so afraid of breaking the illusion that he was a good person.

then there was a third chapter where i was staying w my friend who i stay w a lot in real life except she lived in a big modern house instead of a college dorm and the whole front face of the house was windows and i was playing a lot of bg3 and looking out at the snow unsure of where anyone was. and her and her roommates kept phasing in and out and they were getting ready for some dress up event and i was just gonna be alone in the house and i started flashing through to another dream where i was in canada w my grandparents staying in a big treehouse in the woods and exploring a nearby swamp (neither of which exist on their property in real life lol) and i knew there were faries out there. i flashed back into the house dream and i had to pack to go home but as i started packing it quickly became my childhood bedroom and i was packing up my toys and i look outside into the snow and feel so so alone.

the whole dream felt so lonely and empty. like everybody was getting blown away with the snow. something in there about tainted memories. and the part with my ex is so particularly strange because i was trying to find him the other day to see if he's still alive and okay. despite everything he ever did ive always found it hard to think of him as a bad person and some part of me will always care about him because he used to be such a dear friend of mine. and even though i know i shouldnt i can sometimes justify what he did to me, i just know i probably wasnt the only one

i think the thing that really gets me is that i ran to him after my friend who was like a brother to me passed away from an overdose because i never got to articulate how much i loved him and i needed to give that love to somebody. and then he developed a drug problem. and its like he did so many horrible things to me but some part of me still wants to save him. weird.

I just finished playing Glass Heart: Retold and OMG IT IS SO GOOD. Was super interested in how a bunch of the love interests had connections. The music is beautiful. I looove the sprites. The game is fully voice acted and the love interests voice actors did an incredible job. Some parts are a bit cheesy but it's fun :) It's absolutely CRIMINAL that I haven't been able to find a fandom for this game. I've only found 8 fics on AO3 and ONE OF THEM IS IN FRENCH.

In Glass Heart you play as Meira, a 21 year old woman with a rare heart condition that has kept her in the hospital for most of her life. She got a heart donor right as her heart started failing. Her transplant surgery is a month away with a 20% chance of success. Meira wants to experience life outside the hospital before her high-stakes surgery, and each of the 6 love interests will help her do that.

Glass Heart: Retold is a remake. I haven't played the original, the main difference I know of are the 2 short stories after each route in the original. I was looking at the game files and found the CGs and sprites for those stories!! also saw a file with diary entries about each guy at different affection levels. maybe they'll be added in the future?

Under the cut I'll include content warnings for the game and my thoughts on each route in the order I played them. Spoilers ahead!!

somehow got the darkest route on the first playthrough

thought i was going to date sweet florist man who grew fond of Meira

ends up being in charge of an assassination guild

finds out a gang called the Zhulong Syndicate is after Meira's new heart, does his best to stop them

Charlotte is so pretty, wish she was a love interest

Lily is such a cute nickname

literally went feral when Tamaki called her a good girl

looove a man in a suit

unfortunately this is the route where Meira gets sexually assaulted

PAPI CAN GO FUCK HIMSELF

the way Tamaki reacted when Meira told him about the assault was 10/10 chef's kiss, the good stuff

he's such a sweet sweet man

the good ending is peak bc yes i would love to run a small flower shop with my lover!!

a very good starting point, one of my favorite routes!!

Will

needed something more lighthearted after Tamaki so I chose Will

going to college w/ childhood bff and his besties, very chill

friendzoning a girl you like and continuing to give her mixed signals after, not so chill

Nerd Squad is so goofy, I love them

Brayson was so flirty and silly like bro i can't get distracted ill do your route later

Krystol (her roommate) was a tad cringe but she's sweet

omg Tiffanie get out of here Will doesn't want you back

aaaand the Zhulong Syndicate is still after Meira's new heart GIVE MY GIRL A BREAK

at least we get to see Tamaki again WELCOME BACK HUSBAND

Meira got drugged at a party, TOLD HER FRIENDS NOT TO BRING HER TO THE HOSPITAL AND THEY LISTENED TO HER

YES IM STILL PISSED ABOUT THAT

HER HEART IS SUPER WEAK AND WE DON'T KNOW HOW THAT DRUG WILL INTERACT WITH HER OTHER MEDICATION

BAD FRIENDS

in the bad ending Will puts himself in front of Meira as a gang member tries to stab her in the hospital and he dies

kinda ironic since his older brother died doing the same thing for Will when he was a kid

and that unlocks Bray's route

Will's route is pretty short but it's a much needed route

Meira needed that slice of life moment and this route delivered!

Brayson

Nathan falls in love w Meira as the trip goes, breaks off his arranged engagement, pursues photography instead on inheriting his father’s business, and lives his life with Meira

Also Meira’s doctor travels with them to look after her heart

And he loves her and is pretty jealous of Nathan

Philip is a character that exists

Nathan's friend, super flamboyant cosmetologist, usually comes around when Meira needs to dress up and love advice

when I first saw Nathan’s fiancée I convinced myself it his sister for a second?

They just look very similar

the bad ending was Meira's funeral

TAMAKI BROUGHT HER A BOUQUET OF LILIES

fun fact: we have the same birthday! (November 2)

we love a tsundere whose idol persona is a detective and recently got diagnosed with cancer

they sing the final recording and a music video for the song

SHE GOES INTO A COMA AND WAKES UP A DAY BEFORE THE CONCERT

after performance she goes right into heart surgery and goes into another coma

(can't believe all of this happened in a month, she really is the main character)

In good ending she lives and they become idols together <3

In bad ending Meira dies before the concert and Eli dies after the concert

it's the doctor/patient dynamic

tbh was a tiny bit concerned when Jay said his little sister died from a heart condition and Meira would've been the same age as her if she was still alive

i was like does he see Meira as a sister 'cause that kinda weiiiird

he doesn't see her as a sister and the age gap isn't awful (21 and 27)

but still why would you date someone with that many similarities w your sister??
