I'm going to extend some love to Director Tee and Cinematographer Jim for their work on Jack & Joker because this show is out of their norm.

They have consistently delivered a soft haze in their shows:

And it's missing so far from Jack & Joker.

The lighting isn't soft. The focus isn't hazy. The colors aren't neutralized. It's still pretty, but realistic. Less dreamy.

And I could be wrong, but I don't think Tee has ever filmed an action sequence in his previous work.

I don't have time to properly form a thought, but I appreciate that everyone is stepping out of their comfort zone for this show, and it's working. We only see the actors, but even the people behind the screen are doing something different, so congratulations Dee Hup House for trying something new and succeeding.

And congrats to YWPB for picking the right people to film it.

S1 and s2 (but especially s1) feel so intimate and grounded and personal. I am watching these character’s lives.

But s3 and s4 (ESPECIALLY s3) feels fake and removed. I’m watching a tv show.

You know, when you stare at the surface for a very long time, you can't tell if the fish are pulling the float or if the wind and waves are moving it. There are times when you're not sure. If you pull out too soon, you'll chase away the fish. And if you take too long, the fish will get away. Should I reel it in? Or not?

I will… make a move. I don't care if it's the fish or the wind. I will reel it in.

Broke my own heart realising that these two scenes can be juxtaposed next to each other as the dream vs. the reality.

I was wondering why they made the colours and lighting in ep. 6 so much like it’s out of a daydream, a fairytale even, and turns out it is to point out what lies between "promise not to leave me until I've achieved my dream" and being forced to give up on the dream and the promise because "things have changed".

So the mirroring that takes place in ep. 7 is not inside a warm little home while their pinkies are linked into a promise, but under the cold, semi-darkness of a hospital while ama lies between life and death. Jack was forced to sell the last bit of his freedom to Boss.

In that dream, everything was working in their favour— Jack’s debt was about to be paid off, his goals were closer to being achieved and he found his soulmate, tied to him in ways he never realised. In that dream, Joke had something close to a family for the first time, something close to a lover, and a place that wanted him as much as he wanted it.

But once awake in this cold dark world, they are both alone against the world again. For people like Jack, things like promise, love, and dreams can become a luxury in a matter of moments and no matter how hard he works to fix things it’s like undoing knots that go so far back, freedom is but a distant hope like a fever dream. And for Joke who dreamt of living in a different life— he is back to having no one to sit and have dinner with and no single place to sleep at night and no one who wants him.

i don't know if rusame downright want to die together but i just think if it happened? like if it had to happen or something? they'd both view it as something really righteous or just right. karmic in a way somehow. maybe even a little bit epic..? sorry this is an ame containing situation and you know . stupid ame voice if there can't be a fairytale ending where everything is alright then an awesome bittersweet tragic ending where the hero and the villain die together for the greater good is the best!

Forever thinking about the ten-minute war-documentary-style long take of the aftermath of the attack on Sietch Tabr, only a few seconds of which made it into the final cut of Dune Part Two.

Before the Atreides atomic arsenal is deployed, another Harkonnen attack on Arrakis further fuels Paul's desire for revenge. It's the point of no return. As he awakens to the sound of explosions, he realizes that Sietch Tabr is being bombarded. This scene echoes the extermination of House Atreides in Part One, with newly designed bombers destroying everything in their path.

What's left of the Fremen people after the air strike is heartbreaking. Wounded survivors seek refuge at the Cave of Birds, where Paul finds Stilgar heavily injured. "We'll have sixty-five to seventy Fremen, wounded families, all civilians," Denis noted in preparation for the scene. The ailing refugees within the cave were filmed in one continuous sequence that lasted ten minutes. "The extras were trained and had rehearsed what to do," recalled Denis. "On 'action,' everyone launched into the scene, creating a maelstrom of pain and chaos, through which Greig improvised shots to capture the intensity, as a war photojournalist would do."

To escape the Harkonnens' wrath, the Fremen flee to the south. And when Feyd-Rautha arrives at the Cave of Birds to witness the damage he has caused, he meets the only survivor who has chosen to stay behind and cover the retreat. Shishakli, who has killed nine Harkonnens with one single blade, will die like the birds, torched with a flamethrower.
