This is long but worth it

"well buddy it's just me and you, mommy took your sisters to the store," Jace said to his 6 month old son. And he smiled at Jace, that sweet innocent smile that babies and kids have, the smile of them not yet knowing the hardships of life, Jace and Clary swore they would give their kids the best life they could and they would make it easier for them.

And one of Jace's favorite thing about being a dad is his kids smile at him with the smile of knowing exactly who he is, He's dada

Jace read many books about pregnancy when Clary was pregnant with their first baby and he knew Clary would get super emotional but so did he.

He let his son grap his finger and swing it around like babies do, it's funny how at one point in your life all you want is constant fighting and being a hero and then after all that all you wanted was a family and once you have that family there really isn't anything more important.

Clary and the kids were Jace's world now and they are a world he would protect and love until dies.

"you know I love you right bud," Jace said. Stephen squealed and blew raspberries at Jace "I'll take that as a yes," Jace said with the loving and gentle smile he had for the ones he loved, he kissed his son on the cheek

Jace stuck his tongue out at him, and Stephen giggled, Jace started laughing as well, this is why being a parent made him feel so fulfilled, those laughs your kids gave you when you were being silly

The way they trusted you and loved you without a second thought and in return you give them love and take care of them and make sure they know their trust is safe with you, Jace wouldn't be anything less to his kids, he would always make sure they knew he loved and supported them no matter what, and that they can always trust him.

"listen chickpea, you need to stop being so cute and getting bigger, I want to snuggle you forever," Jace told his son while tearing up cause Stephen was already six months and he doesn't know how it's already been six months since he came into the world and they added another precious light to their life.

When Jace and Clary found out they were having another kid they were both overjoyed, Jace got Clary to agree to a big family, after they had their first kid and Celine started getting bigger, Clary came to Jace with tears saying 'she's getting so big it's not fair' at first Jace thought Clary was hurting and his instincts were to take her into his arms but then he found why and he started crying 'i know it seems like yesterday she was a newborn'

And then they met Eleanora who's parents had been killed on a mission and they took her in, Jace and Clary made sure she knew that she was just as much their daughter as Celine was, Jace having an adopted family himself didn't hesitate taking her in, and then a year later Clary found out she was pregnant with their son

And now Jace was here married with the most amazing and beautiful wife he could ever ask for, who is also the best mom ever in his opinion, and with 3 amazing kids who he will give all the love he can to, he had to admit he was nervous, he knew how to be a dad to girls but not a son yet, sure Max and Rafe are boys but that's different, their his nephews, Jace now had a son and he knew he will teach him to be a good man, he will teach his children to be better then he has been and make sure that they know how proud he is of them no matter what.

Jace decided to take Stephen to the greenhouse, "see chickpea, all these plants are beautiful, they all have a purpose and they all are different," Jace was telling his son as he bent down by a Basil plant "see this you use to cook with to give good flavor, one day dada will make you something with it," Jace said beamingly.

"one day I will teach you how to do all kinds of things, but for now you need to stay little," Jace said as he tickled his son, and was given that adorable baby laugh in return.

"you know, you really are precious, and I swear I will be the best dada I can be to you and your sisters, mommy will too, she's great you know, she also loves to the moon and would do anything for you, and she is the strongest person I know," Jace told his son

"oh, and then there's your uncle Alec, he is amazing and he's making the world a better place for the babies like you, he is the truest person I know and he loves you very much, Alec is a very important person to me and he doesn't get enough recognition, but I know you will look up to him just like I do," he said with a fond smile "also if anyone ever hurts you, your aunt Izzy will fight them, she loves you so much as well and she is one of the most amazing women you will ever meet, tho I suppose I am biased, but most of all Izzy will protect you no matter what," Jace said as sat down with his son in his arms and looked him in the eyes, they were Clary's green eyes.

"and your uncle Magnus will teach you how to put eyeliner on some day, and I want you to know that no one else can show you how to do it better, he'll also give you glitter and you will probably make a mess but you'll have a lot of fun doing that, you get that from me, I like to cause trouble," he said teasingly "and your uncle Simon will get you into all kinds of Mundane movies and comic books and I have no idea what they are about, but I'll listen when you come to tell me about them," he said with a smile

"and then there's grandma Maryse, she is another amazing woman, your surrounded by amazing women, she'll sing to you and play with you and spoil you, she'll read to you and make sure you feel safe, she is my mom and she tried her best to make me feel safe, so I know she will for you too," he said as he was starting to tear up.

"and now we talk about Max and Rafe, your cousins, Max is gonna get you into trouble and Rafe will get you both out of it, and you all will have many stories to tell and you'll be close and always have each other's backs, and they love you so much as well."

"and there's Tessa and Jem they are beautiful people who are so kind and loving you wonder if they are real, you know if you ever need them they'll come with hesitation, and they love you, then we have Kit and Mina, Kit will always make sure you have cookies and Mina will play with you and give you bandages if you need one," he said and saw that Stephen was staring at him like he was listening "and there's aunt Emma, she's gonna spoil you along with your sisters, she calls you and your sisters super angel babies, and she will smoother you in kisses so you better watch out, but she is kind and badass and you'll love her."

"and aunt Lily will say she'll eat you cause your so cute but she won't really I promise, aunt Lily is another amazing woman, and she is a savage, trust me she'll teach you things, and there's aunt Maia, I was not so nice to her when we first met but I grew on her and I apologised, and she loves you, she says she doesn't know how I made such cute babies, but i have to admit your mama had a big part in that," he said with a laugh.

"oh and there's Aline and Helen, they'll love you as well, Aline is another badass and amazing woman and Helen is fierce and kind, Aline will also show you how to throw a good lunch but don't tell mama I told you that, and Helen will make your oatmeal with love," Jace said with fondness.

"and there's Mark and Cristina, they are in charge of the Downworlder-Shadowhunter alliance,and Mark will make you weird sandwiches but he makes them with love, and he'll give you strawberries, and Cristina will sing you to sleep with spanish lullabies, your surrounded by so many people who love you, and you'll grow up to know these amazing people," he said emotionally.

"ah, there's my boys," Clary said as she walked up to them. "What's dada telling you chickpea?" She said as she picked their son up and kissed his temple

"I was telling him he is surrounded by good people who will love him," he said

"yes, so many, sometimes I wonder if you'll even know what to do with it all," Clary said with a grateful and loving smile.

"dada! dada!," Called Cece and Nora, Jace saw them running up to him and they tackle hugged him.

"hey my girls," he said as he took them both in his arms and they told him about their visit to the store and Clary took Stephen to go feed him, cause he was now hungry.

Fatherhood was an adventure and it's a adventure he hoped to be on forever, "alright girls let's go get dinner ready while mama takes care of baby chickpea," he said to them.

And they went and made dinner and Jace would never know what he did to deserve this love he now had but he knew he would forever be grateful and make sure he gives as much love back.

Fave characters from the last 5 things I’ve watched/read/seen/etc:

I was tagged by @a-lil-bi-furious forever ago, and I’m finally doing it. Yay. Go me. Long rambly post ahead.

1 - Isabelle Lightwood (Freeform’s Shadowhunters)

Izzy, Izzy, Izzy. There are so many good things to say about her. I love that she's so versatile; she's one of their best warriors, she's the Weapon's Master, she's a skilled forensic pathologist. She's incredibly intelligent and strong and also unabashedly feminine. She's faced demons and warlocks and rogue shadowhunters, and she beat them all in five-inch heels.

I love that she's so in control of and unashamed in her sexuality, despite her mother's and other's comments and snipes about it. She's gorgeous and enjoys sex and she owns it, and I'm so proud of her. I wish she got better love interests (like Clary), because I realize I didn't particularly like Raphael or Simon.

One of my favorite things of the whole show is her love for her family, most showcased with Alec. Her unwavering support in him, and trying to help him be his best, authentic self, is so pure, and her supporting him and Magnus is so refreshing compared he rest of their family just...not.

2 - Bonnie Bennett (The CW’s The Vampire Diaries)

Bonnie was my favorite from the moment I started (and probably one of my favorite characters of all time), and it broke my heart how the show treated her. She was a bold, brave, and powerful black Bennett witch who was controlled by racist writers and manipulated by selfish vampires.

But even with those obstacles, she did some incredible feats. She went up against (and beat) Originals multiple times, the first after she'd only been a practicing witch for a few months. She singlehandedly held back hellfire for a time and saved Mystic Falls (and all its residents' undeserving asses) numerous times and never got the appreciation she deserved.

She deserved her happy ending with Enzo and I will never forgive Plec (or Stefan) from taking that away from her. Even with everything she went through, she was kind, she was compassionate, she was understanding, and she was more forgiving than she probably should have been. Her interactions with Nora in season 7 warmed my heart.

3 - Maria DeLuca (The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico)

As Liz said, “Maria DeLuca is her own savior, every damn time.” And it's really unfortunate that the show (and the fandom) really make her keep proving it. This woman has so much on her shoulders, a sick mum and running a business. She's constantly alone, left out, and used as a prop for other's stories, and I hate it. Making her the obstacle for the fandom's favorite-gay-ship™️ was a bad move on the writers' part, and the treatment Heather Hemmens has received in playing her is horrendous.

With all that, Maria is still lively and outgoing and fun. Her wit is phenomenal, and any scene with her and Isobel snarking at each other is a hoot. Her little interactions with everybody are my favorite honestly. She's fiery and strong and bold, but I also so appreciate when we get to see her vulnerable. (Also, she looks like a goddess in that first gif.)

Full disclosure, I had a hard time deciding between Maria and Jenna Cameron as my favorite, and they literally have had like two scenes together at the end of S2 but I ship them hard. So if the show could just get on that, that'd be appreciated.

4 - Olivia Baker (The CW’s All American)

Words cannot describe how much I love Olivia. Just gotta get this out of the way, Samantha Logan is exceptionally gorgeous, and even my gay ass can't decide if I should pay more attention to Olivia or her brother when they're both on screen. But that's not important.

Something about Liv and her story just really resonated with me, and episode 1x12 had me bawling. Watching this good, kind, bright girl feel so alone and isolated was heart wrenching. She deserves the world, and I'm glad she's finding a good support system.

My favorite thing about Liv is how much she cares. If she sees something wrong or unjust, she does not hesitate to call it out, and if something is happening to her family or friends, she does everything she can to help. And that's a good thing, but I worry she focuses to much on others, at the expense of herself. I'd love if, in the coming season(s), she learns how to and is allowed to work on and take care of herself.

5 - Anissa Pierce (The CW’s Black Lightning)

My kick-ass superhero baby. She's a black, lesbian medical student and part-time teacher. Her love for her family is undeniable, as is her hatred if injustice. This drives her to become a vigilante superhero after only days/weeks of discovering her powers, and she fought her dad to a standstill (neither of them knew who the other was, but he was far more experienced than she was).

She's shown to be perhaps the physically strongest in the show (which I fucking love), and her fighting prowess is near unmatched. So like, that's obviously all cool, but it's only part of why I love her so. She's a force to reckoned with no matter what identity she's in (Anissa, Thunder, or Blackbird). She's passionate and loving.

Speaking of loving, her and Grace own my heart. An interracial wlw badass superpowered couple is basically everything I could want. They (and this whole damn show) are SO GOOD.

I have so many thoughts and feelings about this akshakhdej maybe they’ve grown up together? Or met when they were teenagers?? I’m thinking Alec pretty quickly notices that he looks at Magnus differently than anyone else, but he’s not Out, so he just pretends he’s fine lol. So he’s around when Magnus starts to date and is there for him during the breakups too because he just wants Magnus to be happy. And maybe that’s when Camille happens (or she doesn’t happen at all because Magnus deserves so much better) and Alec just hates her but Magnus doesn’t understand why and then when the shitstorm is over Alec is there for him during his healing without the I told you so bullshit because he’s not like that he’s just There exactly in the way Magnus needs and it takes some time but then oops maybe this is the person he should have been looking at all along?? Has Alec always looked at him like that?? It’s very Intense™ and Magnus is just like woah what do I do with this. But they’ve always had a very tactile relationship so I’m thinking cuddles because Magnus needs comfort and then at one point they just look at each other and kinda lean in and Alec is like shit no!!! I’m not taking advantage of you when you’re hurting!! And Magnus is like you’re not!! I want you to kiss me!!! So Alec just... blinks and does it because he can’t hold back anymore and then after they’ve talked they tell Izzy and she slaps them both over the head and says that she’s been trying to get them both to understand their feelings for each other for years what took them so long but they all just laugh and they also talk about what scared them and reach common ground and it’s pretty much the same?? They just kiss now?? It’s nice

I need the crackfic of Alec who, after having emptied his heart to Jace about his wedding stress and Jace mentioning inverted Alec as a joke, goes and somehow gets inverted Alec over to help him plan his wedding and inverted Alec is all o.O at first and then he cracks his knuckles and it's the wedding of the century and he goes home with a lot of fashion ideas for his boyfriend.

Help Myself(read on AO3)“Jace, I think this was all a huge mistake. I can’t do this.” Alec finally says, collapsing onto the bed in his room at the Institute. He’s been at this for hours now, magazines spread out on every flat surface, his laptop full of no less than twenty tabs with search results for venues and themes and colorings. He can’t remember the last time he closed his eyes without seeing images of tie patterns and cuff-links behind his eyelids.

“You want to call it off?” Jace asks, eyes wide at the prospect of Alec having second thoughts about the wedding.

“What? No! Not the wedding, the planning. I’m not cut out for all of this.” Alec groans.

“Just let Magnus do it, then. I doubt he’d mind,” Jace suggests, but Alec is already shaking his head back and forth stubbornly.

“No way. I promised I could handle half of the work, I’m not going back on that now. I just didn’t realize how much went into it. Raziel, it’s a lot. How do people do this for a living?”

“Have you considered–”

“No, Jace, I’m not hiring a planner for my half. Magnus will know. He wants us to both have a say in this, to both be represented instead of the whole ceremony just being what he wants. I just… Don’t know what I want.” Alec didn’t care about his first almost-wedding - that was something he did out of duty and necessity which was why he let Izzy and Lydia do whatever they wanted with it. But this is different.

This is him and Magnus, and Alec wants it to be perfect.

“Too bad you can’t just snap your fingers and turn into that party planning version of yourself from that alternate universe,” Jace says, laughing. It’s such an off-handed comment, one he’s already moving on from the moment it leaves his lips, that it’s obvious he didn’t mean for it to be a serious suggestion.

Except Alec’s head snaps over and he bolts up from the bed, sitting upright and staring directly at his brother. “Jace, you’re a genius.”

Jace, who’s already in the middle of saying something else, stops talking with a look of uncertainty. “What? I mean, I won’t argue with you, but why specifically this time?” Jace bounces back from the moment of confusion with his trademark smart-ass remarks.

“The other Alec. He’s still me, after all. Just a better coordinated me. It’s perfect!” Alec buzzes with excitement but Jace looks skeptical.

“I don’t know, man. There’s a reason we didn’t try and go back there after the first time. We nearly lost Clary, and-”

“It’ll be fine. I’ll just convince the other me to come back here for a day or two, make as many plans as we can, then send him back.” It sounds so simple when Alec says it like that.

“…I don’t think that’s how it works.” Jace starts, but when he realizes that he doesn’t actually know how it does work to counter, stops again.

“I’ll figure something out. Can you ask Meliorn if he’d be willing to show me to the portal in the Seelie Realm?” Alec asks, smirking at the look of startled indignation on Jace’s face over the request.

“Me? Why me? What makes you think he’ll listen if I ask him?” It’s about two questions too defensive to not sound paranoid and suspect.

“I know the two of you have kept in contact since the Alliance rune. You do know you’re allowed to make friends that aren’t me and Izzy, right? It isn’t the worst thing to have friends who aren’t Shadowhunters.” Alec actually sounds relieved to know that Jace is friendly with Meliorn these days. He, Izzy, and Jace always had one another… but for too long, they only had each other. Seeing all three of them branch out and start to lean on other people in their lives is a good thing, even when it seems more than a little terrifying at first.

Jace looks like he might double down on denial again, but just sighs instead. “Yeah, alright, I’ll ask him.”

“Thanks,” Alec says, walking back over to the computer on his desk and facing the never-ending lineup of tabs with a renewed sense of hope that he might find a way through this after all.

Later that night Alec runs the idea by Magnus - first, to see if he’d consider it cheating by way of wedding planning, and secondly to see if he could see any reason why the other Alec wouldn’t be able to come here the same way Jace and Clary had gone over there.

“…I have to admit, I am curious to see what this other universe’s Alec is like, especially after what Clary told us. But if he comes back it’d be in your body, same as it was for Clary and Jace.”

Alec hadn’t considered that. “Well… that’s still fine, right? I mean, it isn’t like it’ll be a stranger taking over my body. It’s still just me.” He shrugs. “Listen. Somewhere out there is a version of me with some knowledge of patterns and textures and I think I deserve access to that knowledge right about now.”

Magnus huffs out a laugh, turning over onto his side in bed to bring a hand up to the side of Alec’s face. “You know I would marry you in a black and white room if it’s what you want.” “How convenient then. Because that’s what we’re going to get if this doesn’t work out. But I have to admit, this is as much for me as it is the wedding. I’ve been curious, too, ever since Clary discovered it. How life could’ve been in some other timeline where things aren’t… where I’m not…” Alec can’t quite get the words out, but Magnus’ expression softens from his teasing one a moment ago.

“Well then. So long as you know what you’re doing, I don’t see the harm in it. And I’ll try not to grow too attached to the other you once you get him here, but no promises. Tell me, is it considered cheating if it’s still technically you–” Magnus starts, right back to teasing (at least, Alec is pretty sure he’s just joking…), which earns Magnus a pillow to the face and a patented Alec Lightwood eye roll of exasperation.

“Remember,” Meliorn says, and Alec notes the Seelie sounds surprisingly concerned. “You’ll need to remain anchored to your own thoughts to not get lost in there. If you aren’t back in three hours I’m closing the portal. Please don’t make me have to be the one who explains why the Head of the New York Institute is missing in another dimension.”

“Don’t worry,” Alec says. “I’ll leave that up to Jace, you’re in the clear.”

Meliorn shakes his head, a small, amused chuckle leaving his lips despite his worry.

“Ha-ha,” Jace replies sarcastically. “Sure you don’t want me to go with?”

“No, it’ll be easier with just one. And I have all the anchor I’ll need,” Alec adds confidently, twisting the engagement ring on his finger.

Wearing the portal shard around his neck Alec steps through the archway Meliorn just finished opening and out into a lavishly decorated room, full of golds and oranges and crimsons, with statues by a window of thick red curtains and a long table with a ring of candles around a crystal ball.

Alec jolts forward before he looks down at himself – he sees the sleeves of a baby blue polo, khakis, no runes, and most horrifyingly (which is certainly saying something), no engagement ring. Of course it couldn’t come over with him. This sets off more anxiety within him than he cares to admit, not just because he already feels incomplete without the weight of it but because he was counting on that to ground him here as it had in Edom.

Alec catches a glimpse of himself in a mirror and his eyes widen at the sight. He looks ridiculous. The first thing he does is reach a hand up to mess with the strange part in his hair when Magnus (not his Magnus, he reminds himself) comes up behind him. Alec immediately gets flashbacks of his Magnus in the Infirmary without his magic - no makeup, hair down, the slight hint of wrinkles around the corners of his eyes - and freezes at the touch of arms around his waist.

“Alexander? What’s wrong?” Magnus asks, leaning in for what Alec assumes is about to be a kiss - he doesn’t know for certain because he steps out of the embrace with startling speed. Magnus only looks more worried as well as a little hurt now, but takes a step back as well instead of moving toward him. “Alexander?”

There’s a silence that stretches on too long to be comfortable but Alec can’t help it. This Magnus, the one who very clearly owns that crystal ball and tarot set-up, is a far cry from the Magnus Bane he’s used to. But there’s that same kindness behind his eyes, the same concerned frown, the same hesitating rise-and-fall of hands that want to reach out but are forced back down to his sides for now… all of that tells Alec not everything about his Magnus and this Magnus is different.

“I’m not Alec,” he says, then pauses. “Well, I’m not your Alec. I am Alec, it’s just…” Alec sighs, knowing he isn’t getting anywhere anytime soon if he keeps rambling on like this. He’s starting to sound like Simon when he’s nervous. “I came here with this.” Holding up the chain around his neck Alec watches Magnus’ eyes widen at the sight of the purple portal shard.

“That again,” Magnus curses. “The last time one of you came here you let demons in. So excuse me for the poor hospitality, but I think you should go.”

“I’ll go… but I need your Alec to come with me.” Alec says, but doesn’t get any further before Magnus chimes in again.

“I’m sorry, you what?” That is very clearly not a condition that Magnus wants to agree to. In fact, there’s a small crackle of magic at Magnus’ fingertips, one he looks just as surprised to see there as Alec does.

“Please, Magnus, hear me out. Can we just sit and talk for a few minutes? I’ll explain everything.” Alec pleads.

“You get five minutes.”

Explaining everything is not as easy as Alec would like. Five minutes turn into ten, which turn into twenty, and by the end it takes him nearly half an hour to convince this Alternate Magnus to stop going “absolutely not” every time he speaks, and another 15 minutes to even humor the idea of conveying everything Alec just told him to this world’s Alec.

“The decision to come back and help me needs to be him, or else I’ll just go back through the portal as myself, and he’ll stay here.” Alec explains.

Magnus looks justifiably concerned - whether over the plan itself, or the idea that he thinks his boyfriend has lost his entire goddamn mind, it’s difficult to tell.

“I can’t say I’m fond of the idea of my boyfriend portal hopping to other universes…” Magnus frets, worrying a bit at the hem of his sweater.

Alec still can’t get over the drastic change in both himself and Magnus in this world. He expected a few differences, obviously, but what he found throws him for such a loop he almost loses himself in this world just to get a better understanding of it, and of himself in it. But he remembers before it’s too late, running his fingers along the space where his ring should be, thinking of the engraving on the inside and hoping it’s enough to get him through this.

“It’s perfectly safe, I swear. He won’t be going out on missions or anything, just giving a few pointers. If he even wants to. I’m not about to kidnap him or anything ridiculous.” Alec points out.

“Of course he’ll want to,” Magnus says with a fond sigh. “This is the sort of thing he’ll drop everything else to jump at.” Magnus’ eyes drop down to the spot his ring should be, where Alec’s attention keeps drifting to. “I still can’t believe we’re getting– I mean, you’re getting married.”

Alec grins the sort of wide, dopey grin that almost hurts it’s so wide. He can’t help it. “Neither can I, honestly.” He admits. “So you’ll help me? I have to give over control to your Alec so you can explain it to him, but I need you to remind him - and me - that I’m here after a few minutes so I don’t get too lost. Please?”

Alec looks at Magnus through those thick lashes, eyes wide and pleading, knowing how well that works on his Magnus and hoping that some things are still the same here. He’s rewarded when he sees Magnus practically melt at the sight.

“Fine. Just… hurry up so we can get this over with. Not that you aren’t lovely and all, but this is getting a bit too strange for me.”

“Great. Let me just… figure out how to switch this off, I guess?” Alec hadn’t thought this through, honestly. He closes his eyes to focus, trying to feel out through his thoughts for this world’s Alec, wherever he may be trapped in there. After two minutes of increasingly frustrated concentration he’s interrupted by the sound of Magnus’ voice.

“…did you, uh, switch back?”

Alec’s eyes shoot open. “No, I didn’t. This is harder than it looks, okay?”

“…might I make a suggestion?” Magnus offers, slowly. When Alec says nothing he continues. “I don’t think it’s something you can force. You’re trying too hard. It’s about giving over control… giving it up, for lack of a better phrase.”

Hating that Magnus has a point, Alec frowns. He doesn’t like giving up control of anything, let alone himself. He had this thought in his head that even when he allowed the other Alec to take back over, it would be on his own terms somehow. Alec is only now realizing how impossible and naive that was.

“Right. Giving up control. I can do that.” He tries again, but all he can think about is why he’s here - the wedding, the ring that should be on his finger, Magnus waiting for him back–

Magnus. That’s it. Alec opens his eyes again and looks at the man in front of him. Magnus, but not his Magnus, and allows the love and memories for this version of the warlock begin to flow through him. It doesn’t take long for those emotions to become overpowering, and for Alec to lose himself to this world’s Alec again through them.

“…Alexander?”

It feels like waking up from a deep sleep, the way he blinks his eyes open and shakes his head to clear the hazy fog that settles over his thoughts trying to tug him back under.

“It’s you again, isn’t it? The other you?”

Alec blinks his eyes a few times at the sight of Magnus, hair down, no makeup, and wearing a button-down sweater of all things, before he remembers where he is.

Before he remembers who he his.

“Yeah. How long was I-”

“About an hour. Sorry, the explaining took a little longer than I anticipated.” Magnus looks Alec up and down before the concern on his features starts to ease up. “Not going to lie, I was a little afraid we lost you in there.” Magnus laughs but there’s an edge to it that Alec doesn’t like.

“What did he say?” Alec asks, fearing the answer he’s about to get based on the look of apprehension on Magnus’ face.

“Full disclosure: I tried to talk him out of it. I don’t like this at all but he’s going to do it. On one condition,” Magnus continues quickly. “I think I have a spell that can temporarily split the two of you… so he can go to your world as himself, not trapped inside your body.”

That… that isn’t something Alec prepared for. “Won’t two of us mess with, I don’t know, the balance of the universe or something? Simon made me watch exactly one strange sci-fi thing with him and Clary, and timelines are definitely a thing you don’t want to mess with.”

“Take it or leave it.” Magnus says. Alec hesitates. He wishes he could go back and talk to his Magnus about this, to make sure it wouldn’t break some fundamental law of universe hopping, but he knows that isn’t how this works. Meliorn isn’t just going to keep risking that portal on a whim of his and Alec knows the longer it’s open the more danger this world is potentially in as well.

“I’ll take it.”

Another hour later and Alec is standing in front of, well, himself. And while it’s refreshing to look down at his arms and see his runes again (and also the black shirt, jeans, and engagement ring he was wearing when he left the Seelie Realm, thank the Angel), actually getting to look at the Alternate Alec is more unnerving than he imagined it would be.

“You look ridiculous,” Alternate Alec says immediately, and Alec laughs.

“Funny, that’s the first thing I thought when I saw myself - or I guess saw you - in the mirror earlier,” Alec says.

“I would just like to go on record a second time with both of you to state that I really think you should reconsider,” Magnus tries one last time.

Both Alecs roll their eyes at the same time, exchange a carefully guarded look, and then smirk.

“Oh my god,” Magnus sighs, exasperated. “Fine. Hurry up and go before I change my mind about helping.” Magnus says, opening a portal to the basement of the Institute where Alec, and Alternate Alec, are able to access the portal out of this universe and into the Seelie Realm.

The look on Jace and Meliorn’s faces when both Alecs stumble out of the portal is absolutely priceless. Only Alec sees it, however - Alternate Alec trips on his way out of the swirling vortex of magic and lands on his knees in the mud on the ground.

Alt-Alec looks mortified as he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath to control his frustration, ignoring Alec’s offered hand to help him back up. “These were very expensive loafers. You could’ve warned me that I was about to walk into a mudpit.”

Jace laughs. “Well, at least we won’t have any trouble telling the two of you apart,” he comments, earning a bark of a laugh from Alec and a glare from Alec’s Alternate Universe counterpart.

After another moment of self-pity Alt-Alec finally accepts the offered hand to help himself back up, brushing the worst of the mud off of his pants.

“You cut it extremely close, Lightwood,” Meliorn points out. “Or should I say, Lightwoods.” He’s eyeing the second Alec warily, concerned over the balance of nature he may have upset by allowing this to pass through one of the Seelie portals.

“You wouldn’t have actually closed it right away, would you?” Alec challenges.

Meliorn only looks behind him at the now-sealed portal. “I suppose we would’ve gotten that answer had you arrived three minutes later than you did.”

It’s impossible to hide the look of unease that both Jace and Alec share at the prospect of Meliorn following through with that promise. Alternate Alec, on the other hand, appears almost disappointed for a moment.

“Maybe that would’ve been for the best,” Alt-Alec mutters under his breath, looking down at his dirty palms and ruined clothing.

“Alright, let’s get poor Other-Me back to civilization,” Alec says, nodding the opposite direction of the portal they just came through.

“There are two of you.” Magnus says, tone as casual as if stating that Alec’s shirt is black. “How are there two of you?”

“Magnus-” Alec starts before catching himself. “The other Magnus had a spell, and it was the only way to get them to agree.”

Magnus walks over and takes a dramatic look up at the sky. “Well, the heavens haven’t decided to smite you down for it, and I don’t feel any temporal shifts in the universe, so I suppose you’re in the clear for now.”

“…is he always this dramatic?” Alt-Alec asks in a hushed tone.

“Oh, this is nothing,” Alec confirms.

When Magnus turns back around they both notice the way Alt-Alec stares at the warlock.

“…don’t they have manners in your timeline?” Magnus challenges, shooting Alt-Alec a raised eyebrow.

“Yes. Sorry, I don’t mean to- you’re just… not at all what I was expecting.” Alt-Alec finishes. “Your fashion sense is exquisite. So bold, but it suits you perfectly. I never would’ve imagined…” Alt-Alec trails off again, admiring, and Alec can almost see the wheels turning in his head.

“What do you say we shelve this until dinner tonight, and focus on the wedding planning first?” Alec suggests, not-so-subtly refocusing them to the task at hand.

“Sure,” Alt-Alec agrees easily. “Lead the way. But later I’m getting a look at that closet.”

Alec’s positive that this has to go against some serious rule… at the very least it has to be highly frowned upon. There probably isn’t an actual rule about it because they probably never thought anyone would be foolish enough to try and bring a second version of themselves back to this world.

They hadn’t met the determination of Alexander Gideon Lightwood planning his own wedding.

They sneak Alt-Alec into the Institute and up to Alec’s room with a glamour, courtesy of Magnus. Alec, Magnus, and a handful of other people can see the other Alec for who he truly is, and everyone else can only see someone with a striking resemblance - someone clearly related but probably a close cousin or something.

“So, here’s what I have for ideas so far,” Alec says, showing the pages he printed out, a few notes jotted down, and tabs opened up on his computer.

Alt-Alec clicks through three tabs before closing out of the window entirely.

“Hey! Do you have any idea how long those took me to–” “There’s a reason you brought me here, correct? You didn’t risk getting trapped in an alternate timeline so I could show up and agree with everything you thought of so far. Though honestly, given the state of things, I’m not even sure I can fix this in enough time.” Alt-Alec says with a heavy sigh. “Please tell me you didn’t order anything already, at least?”

“No, but–”

“Then you’re lucky I’m up for a challenge.” Alec wants to punch Alt-Alec in his smug smirk and wonders if he’s ever this insufferable. He certainly hopes not. “Looks like we have our work cut out for us, so let’s get to it. I’ll need to see the venue first.”

Alt-Alec takes in the room slowly after they arrive. “You do know you’re marrying a Warlock, right? You could go quite literally anywhere. And you’re choosing… this?” He eyes the room disdainfully.

Alec doesn’t admit how uneasy that critique leaves him, especially when it’s the same gut reaction Magnus had at the suggestion of the Institute, too. Maybe they’re both right and this is a terrible idea, and he should just leave all the planning to the two of them and keep his mouth shut.

“…the stained glass has a nice effect when the sun hits it just right, though. It could add some spectacular lighting if I can frame it right…” Alt-Alec continues, bringing his hands up in front of him in a square shape, looking through them like a camera lens while he squints one eye shut. He then drops his hands and spins around to the side. “Some banners… floral arrangements… what did you say the color scheme was?”

“Blue and gold,” Alec says, cursing the tentative tone his voice takes now that he’s doubting every decision he made so far.

Alt-Alec scrunches his nose. “I can work with it, I suppose. Heavy on the gold, and it should fit the room well enough.”

“So it isn’t all a terrible idea so far?” Alec asks hopefully.

Alt-Alec considers him for a moment before shaking his head. “No. You’ll be relieved to know you aren’t entirely hopeless.” Alt-Alec gives him a pitying glance. “I won’t have to scrap everything you were going for, but I am going to make some heavy adjustments. I’ll map some things out, gather some samples, and I should be able to have a solid idea in place by tomorrow evening. Which is good, because if I’m gone much longer than a day or two I’m not sure Magnus will let me back into the apartment… and after how much work it took to move my stuff in, I really don’t want to be kicked out already.” There’s a definite shift in Alt-Alec’s tone as he starts to speak about Magnus and for a moment that confident, smug grin softens into something much lighter.

It’s a look Alec knows well.

“Then I guess we better get to work,” Alec agrees. “After all, we wouldn’t want you kicked out before you get the chance to plan your own wedding.”

Alt-Alec starts, opening his mouth as if he wants to argue that of course he isn’t thinking about marriage, he’s only just moved in with him, but then he remembers who he’s talking to and knows there’s no point in lying, not to himself.

“No, we certainly wouldn’t,” Alt-Alec agrees instead.

The planning goes well… until it doesn’t.

“I’m not changing the time of the wedding for the sun.” Alec declares, the words harsh as he repeats them for the third time in a row.

“Then what’s the point of having a stained glass window if there isn’t going to be sun hitting it!?” Alt-Alec sounds exasperated, as he should be considering they’ve been at this for hours now.

“I didn’t pick the Institute for the fucking window! It’s meant to make a statement for-”

“You know what makes an amazing statement? A stained glass window with sunlight pouring through it.” Alt-Alec cuts him off.

Alec throws his hands into the air, turning and taking several steps away from him before stopping and spinning back around. “I already agreed to the absurd amount of flowers you insisted on-”

“-which is good because I already ordered them and they arrive tomorrow at 9am.”

“And the frilly bow things down the aisle-”

“It’s just ribbon. Don’t pretend you don’t know what ribbon is.”

“We’re not shifting the entire ceremony back 4 hours so that the sunlight will be at the right angle.”

“Why not just have it at midnight and make the whole theme black, since that seems to fit your dark, edgy persona so well–”

Izzy, who came in at the tail end of the argument, strides right between the two of them without hesitation.

“Now, now, boys. Let’s just take a deep breath and maybe walk away from this for a minute. How does coffee sound?” She suggests, looking between the two of them.

“Not right now, Iz. This is important and-”

“It wasn’t a suggestion, Alec. We’re all stopping for a few minutes, you’re caffeinating before you rip someone’s head off,” she says pointedly at him, before turning to Alt-Alec. “And you and I are going to have a quick chat. Which is also not a suggestion,” she adds quickly when it looks like Alt-Alec is about to argue with her. He only raises an eyebrow instead before following her off, leaving Alec alone.

Deciding he’d rather force himself to take a break for some espresso rather than face the wrath of Izzy, he leaves and comes back thirty minutes later with three drinks - a second cup for himself, and one for Izzy and the other Alec.

“Apology drinks?” He offers, holding the carrier out towards them.

“Thanks,” Izzy and Alt-Alec both say in unison.

“I’m sorry, too. I still stand firmly by the fact that I’m right,” Alt-Alec starts, but quickly corrals his tangent back in with a look from Isabelle. Alec wonders how much of this is actually from him and how much is from Izzy, but he’s grateful for it either way. “But I should be working with you, not against you. Most times I’m hired to plan things outright, it’s pretty free reign given my reputation for being, well, the best in the city if I may toot my own horn.”

“I never want to hear those words in my voice ever again,” Alec says, frowning. “But I get it. And the flowers and ribbons will look great.”

“So will your poorly backlit window.”

“…good enough. My work here is done.” Izzy declares, taking her drink and walking back off to deal with the seating charts.

The rest of the day goes surprisingly smooth, with Alt-Alec listening a bit more to what Alec wants, and more actual compromises occurring rather than one eventually tiring of the other’s stubbornness and giving in. And, by the end of the day, the ceremony is shifted by two hours, at Alec’s request.

He’s positive there’s a look of pride on Alt-Alec’s face when he does.

Alt-Alec stays for the ceremony. It’s more than a little strange for Alec to see himself in the audience of his own wedding, but the look on the other Alec’s face watching all of his planning come together is the very least he could do.

“It was a beautiful ceremony,” Alt-Alec says, coming up to greet him and Magnus before he and Meliorn take an early leave to return to the portal.

“Thanks,” Alec says. “I had a lot of help from one of the best in the city, or so I’ve heard.”

“It was a pleasure meeting you,” Magnus chimes in. “Thank you for making me aware that Alexander in pastel polos is a gift our reality has been denied for far too long.”

Alec looks mortified at the idea of Magnus actually following through on buying him those shirts, while Alt-Alec laughs. “Then consider us even. I have quite a few wardrobe additions to shop with Magnus for when I get back. You have impeccable taste, Mr. Bane.” They look like they might hug goodbye for a moment, but after a moment opt to shake hands instead. It’s still a little too weird being affectionate with an Alec, or a Magnus, that isn’t theirs.

Meliorn clears his throat loudly from the side. “Shall we? The hour is growing late, and the earlier we activate the portal the safer it will be for all of us.”

“Yes. My work here is done.” Alt-Alec declares with finality. “Maybe we’ll meet again, sometime.”

“You know where to find us,” Alec says, and Alt-Alec touches the outline of the purple shard of portal on the necklace hidden underneath his shirt. It’s their agreed-upon payment: Alec knows he shouldn’t be using it again, and it’s only fair since Alec and Clary both went there for help that Alt-Alec’s world has the same option in return.

“Maybe one day I’ll be inviting you to my own wedding,” Alt-Alec suggests hopefully. “I’ll try not to show this one up too terribly.”

“You know that’s a lie,” Alec counters.

“Of course it is. My wedding is going to be spectacular. I was just trying to be nice but you had to ruin the moment.” And with that Alt-Alec shakes his head, turns, and takes his leave with Meliorn.

Alec sighs contently watching him leave, easing his weight against Magnus’ side. “Do you think he really will?”

“What? Have a better wedding than us? Probably. Now there’s an Alec who would rent out the Taj Mahal.” Alec takes a step back in offense; Magnus manages to hold a serious expression for approximately five seconds before his lips curl up into a smirk and Alec hits him on the shoulder.

“I meant invite us, and you know it.” Alec clarifies, unnecessarily.

Magnus grins at the rise he manages to get out of his husband, but considers the question. “I don’t know. He has the necklace, so… I suppose that’s up to him now.” Magnus holds a hand out to Alec, pulling him towards the dance floor as he takes it. “But for the record? Nothing could be better than this, right here, with you.”

And Alec, after all the nervous and stress and uncertainty, allows himself to breathe easy for the first time in weeks. “I couldn’t agree more.”

3x22 Reaction / Commentary

Fair warning: Despite all feelings of nostalgia and melancholy with this being the last episode and all, this contains the usual amount of salt. Just, consider yourself warned XD

Impressive. Quick question though, why didn't Lilith pull this neat trick before going to Magnus and begging for an opening in the rift? We'll never know. Possibly because she's dumb.

Why would he give away his element of surprise with that stupid roar? Wtf man.

Istg if they kill Meliorn off just after I fell in love with him last episode imma riot so hard. Wtf.

1) Jeliorn Shipper: It's not actually clear who he's addressing XD 2) Am I the only one who feels like Meliorn's feelings for Izzy skyrocketed after they broke off their little mutually beneficial arrangement?? Because I sure do. Very convenient for the plot too.

This is both hilarious and infuriating XD

Boo Team Warlock. They can see that Meliorn is lying on the ground, obviously wounded, and all they do is stand around. Why do they all suck at first aid?? I mean, man down! What more do you need to know wtf.

Also what is that? Lorenzo actually being helpful? Wtf haha. Btw I made up my mind, he's lost bits of his character along the way. I don't like it. He's suddenly supposed to be a good lizard baby? Sure. *scoff*

I like that bit where Lorenzo and Magnus pool magic for a more effective attack but I'm doubtful they're perfectly synchronized since they never fought together. Or is this like a standard warlock fight maneuver? Are those a thing? I need answers.

Lilith shooting her fancy fire spit ball five meters to the left is both an overused cliché and ridiculous.

The Alliance rune was temporary and wore off in like 5 hours, and Nephilim can’t survive in Edom because of their blood once the rune wears off, but Alec says he’ll spend the rest of his life with Magnus in Edom … I mean, I love the romantic sentiment! But that will be a very short life.

SIGH. This is clearly not true. He stayed good friends with his exes (Clary, Maia) so that's a lie. And Saia was working out really well until the series needed it to stop, so it's not like he's inept. Uuhhhh Izzy, you were never interested in having a relationship. That's not the same as screwing up a relationship wtf.

~ Okay I am conflicted about this. While I can buy both, Magnus wanting to move ahead and Alec wanting to plan (because I think it fits them both in terms of being in character) in this particular matter I kinda headcanon the reverse: Alec not able to wait another minute to Lock Magnus Down and Magnus wanting everything to be absolutely perfect and losing himself in planning.

That being said, Magus being like “Gotta get married while we still can and there's not a disaster on the horizon” is.... idk, isn't that kind of sad? He's all about cherishing things in life so you can remember them. And stumbling through his MARRIAGE, with must mean a real real lot to him, being his first in all his 400/800 years, that's... not really uplifting? He deserves better than that.

- Alec's reasoning. Honestly, I don't like it that much. Don't get me wrong, Alec being aware of the political dimension and liking it is 100% ic. But. This is their wedding. Their. Wedding. They do everything else for others, for their people and for the mundanes and the frikking world as a whole (3x20 being a prime example, basically screwing their personal happines to hell and back (pun intended) to close the rift saved the world because those wraiths wouldn't have stopped after Alicante let's be real). And their wedding, this should be just for them. How they like it, how they envision and how they've always dreamed about it. It shouldn't be held so others can benefit from it.

I want the wedding to be at the Instutite. In my mind no other venue even comes into question. But I would have loved if the motivation was differently nuanced. If Alec would have said that he's imagined it there, because yeah, Magnus's loft is his home and his heart, but the Institute must hold sentimental value for him, too. He grew up there. It's basically all he's known his whole life up to like three months ago. It's the embodiment of him being a shadowhunter and he loves being a shadowhunter, it's his identity. And Alec is a traditional guy. He wants his classical shadowhunter wedding and those are held at an Institute. He must have envisioned this after he started dating Magnus: exchanging vows in a ceremony held by a silent brother and with their wedding jewelry, in the chapel of the Institute, simply because this is the only marriage proceedure he's ever known.

Pissing off the clave, or rather, having the clave begrudingly accept him with his true self presented to the world should be a welcome byproduct, but not the main motivation.

From Magnus I would buy this line of reasoning sooner than from Alec because Magnus has hated the clave and its injustice since forever, has suffered far harsher under them than Alec, so he has a lot more personal interest to stick it to the clave than Alec, who, sorry, literally discovered their falseness three months ago. But then again, I don't think thoughts like that would be on the forefront of Magnus's mind and so it makes sense Alec would be the one to bring up this aspect. I just don't like how it was nuanced.

In any case, rewatching that scene I'm amazed at the amount of time Alec flounders before catching Magnus's attention, it's hilarious to watch XD

........................I paused here and I was this tempted to just, stop watching. Honestly, Shadowhunters, what have you done to me. Making me honestly consider to ditch the last ten minutes of a show that I dearly, dearly love. Wtf. I just, I can't. Wow.

1) Magnus “left handed” Bane again writing with his right hand. Mysterious. 2) Honestly I kinda spaced out on this scene after this shot because those blue smears? I was so SURE those would be fingerpaint clumsily smeared on Magnus by Malec's Baby of Horrors. I was so focused on there being any hints of them having adopted a baby already, dreaded anguish kinda making it impossible to taking in anything else. The only thing I really noticed is that they moved with their whole ass loft and I love that.

Honestly, this and the “High Warlock of Alicante” are the only two acceptable things about this whole terrible fever haze dream I have entered. Not that “High Warlock of Alicante” makes any sense. It just has a nice ring to it, that's all. I really can't put into words how ridiculous and, yeah, almost offensive I find it that they actually pretend that blatant racism can be wiped out of the minds of people in the matter of a single year. Sure. The whole Clave changed their racist beliefs and Alec skipped from being a mere Head of an Insitute over being a Clave Envoy to being an Inquisitor (which doesn't even make sense, since an Inquisitor seems to be going from Institute to Insitute and acting as a judge for Shadowhunters on trial, not negotiating how the Clave treats Downworlders). And which warlocks exactly does Magnus represent in Alicante? It makes no sense for the Clave to allow Downworlders to just, randomly live there? And that's got nothing to do with discrimination, that's just logic if you run a military organization: You don't allow civilians to mingle. They don't belong in the Ops Center of an organization they have no part in? I'm all for Downworlders being allowed to participate in legislative etc. but living in Alicante (as more than the significant other of a Shadowhunter) makes no sense. And sorry, I don't believe that in one year there formed SO MANY Shadowhunter/Warlock relationships that SO MANY warlocks moved to Alicante that they need a HIGH WARLOCK for representation. There's SO MUCH wrong with all of this that I have no choice but to move on.

Hmmmm it only took Maia one (1) year to realize that carefully painting over blood splatters with yellow (and not even removing pictures while doing so) isn't in fact enough to cover them up and she needs to get a completely new paintjob, prefereably in a dark color.

As much as I love Izzy, I'm not sure this dialogue really assures me of her competence as Head? I mean? “The demons are not dead yet? Kill them until they are, understood? And don’t argue with me on that, I’m super serious!!” It's not as if this isn't literally all that Shadowhunters do all day. I just don't see Izzy working a desk job. She's meant to be out in the field, slaying demons and cracking jokes and her whip while doing that. Sorry, but that's just how it is.

I could even tolerate that Sizzy scene because I was sooooo relieved Underhill didn't mention having a significant other or anything of the sort. Dodged a frakkin bullet there.

Edit: Nope, no, I can't. It's been two weeks and I have regained enough of my strength to be salty about Sizzy. But let me keep it to a minimum because time. 1) Simon not wanting to kiss Izzy in the hall is ridiculous, as if it hasn't been common knowledge since before that whole Downworlder Deputy Stuff started that they are a thing. So obviously this was just to pepper in the fact that he is in fact one of the Downworlder Deputies, whatever that should mean.

2) Nice to know that Simon continues to exploit his girlfriend's authority. Some things never change I guess, first with Saia and now with Sizzy. 3) I just find it ridiculous that while Simon wasn't able to keep a relationship running for more than two weeks before, suddenly this one works out a whole year without a hitch. Oh right, this was The Endgame Pairing, the other's weren't. *sigh*

Jace is obviously not coping. At All. He's one wrong word from having tears running from his eyes in any given situation. And Alec just, effs off to Alicante to sip martinis with Magnus? Thank you for nothing, Alec. Wtf. I'd like some details on when exactly he decided to leave his parabatai alone in New York with all his heartbreak.

A toned down version of events would have been better. Alec still being Head of the Insitute, fighting tooth and nail against the Clave to implement Downworlder Involvement on more levels. Magnus being the High Warlock of Brookyln (because obviously Lorenzo got sacked for misconduct, come on). Simon and Jace growing closer over the shared devastating loss of Clary. Izzy slaying demons like a Queen. Underhill being single.

We could have had it all.

Okay, I'm gonna need several explanations here, ranked by importance:

1) WHY THAT HAIRCUT WTF

2) How exactly did Clary go from “complete memory loss, homeless, no money, no family, no friends, no nothing, literally just the clothes on her back” to “well-adjusted human being attending school, being super successful with her art, having an appartment and an astounding lack of depression” in a year?

????? ???????? ???????????????

3) I really don't know a lot about either fashion or art, but both differ greatly from what we've seen from Clary so far. Neither her clothes match what she used to wear, nor her art style. She never drew abstract things. It was always portraits of people, or very detailed and realistic looking buildings / demons / sigils. So this doesn't really make sense either. I don't think they intended this to be the opening of a profound philosophical discussion on how much of your personality is laid down in your DNA and how much is just environment and experiences shaping you, so I really REALLY wonder why the f they did that, instead of having Clary draw Shadow World related stuff like before, when Magnus had her memories locked away.

Love the throwback. Also love Jace's reaction of running away, it's so relatable in this situation of utter emotional overload.

Okay, the end. I'm trying my best to end this on a slightly positive note okay, because otherwise I'll just make myself sad. First off, I HATE open endings with a passion, so this left me enraged. Second off, I can't believe the Clace Shippers were left with this as the last scene of their OTP. I kind of get it from a meta stance, they wanted there to be a point of contact for a possible pick-up, but still. They didn't even kiss. They didn't even have clarity what exactly Clary remembers. I hate it! Third off, how ridiculous is it that after a year Clary randomly remembers? Uhh? Why does the angel's punishment suddenly not work anymore? “Because love conquers all” etc. Uh-huh. Then why did it take a frakkin year? Huh, Jace?! If this had been the first time Clary and Jace see each other again, fine, I would have bought it. But “random” is such an unsatisfying explanation. Just, don't. So if you'll excuse me, I'll happily pretend none of this happened. Or it happened one month later, not a year wtf. Or I'll just follow through on my rewrite and rectify all the things I didn't like about these last two episodes.

And now that all the rage is out of the way, the good things. I loved both of Clary and Jace's acting in this scene (which lolllll I specifically point out because mostly in their couple scenes one of them fails XD). The careful way Clary touches Jace's rune and the way he almost flinches back, too raw for it, but also his vulnerable helpless smile, and how Clary smiles back. I also really liked the song. And the final shot, of the camera pulling away and into the nightsky, that was nice. It felt like an ending, so at least that gave me some closure.

I love this show. Even with all its infuriating plot holes and ooc-ness. It means a lot to me. It has inspired me to write fic like no other fandom. I plan to stick around for a long time to come, with both fics and tumblr posts. I'll rewatch episodes, obsess over details and grumble about shit I disliked because that's just what I do. It's how I show my appreciation. I guess what I'm trying to say is

Inside TMI Gang's diaries part 4 1/2

Clary: Dear diary, so Jace has been training me, everyone thinks we are just making out but Jace takes Shadowhunter training very serious, and he tells me I drink too much coffee, whatever Jace whatever. I love him so much though, but lately I feel like he is avoiding me a little, idk if my mom scares him that much or if he is losing interest, anyway Simon is playing with fire, he is dating Isabelle and Maia at the same time and I warned him, but he ain't listening, this boy is for an explosion, I love him though. My training is going great, I do happen to have one of the best trainer's tho, mom and Luke are planning their wedding and I am happy for them, tho mom doesn't like Jace, hopefully she'll see the good in him. Alec and Magnus are on their vacation and seem to be enjoying themselves, Izzy is busy with Simon, Maryse is running the Institute, I think the Lightwoods are trying to keep themselves busy so they don't have to think about their grief.

*Later*

Well, shit has happened again! I thought Jace wanted to break up with me but he doesn't, he is going through stuff and I feel stupid for not noticing, but I am still mad he didn't tell me, and we may have made out in an alley, Jace is apparently being messed with by demonic shit, and he needs to have a ritual done so it doesn't get worse, I am tired.

Well it gets worse, Jace apparently never got the ritual done and lilith took control of him and he kinda sorta kidnapped me but it's not his fault he was possessed, Simon got kidnapped as well but honestly it's not a surprise, I love him tho. so we fought Lilith, and apparently she wanted to bring back my brother, well Simon kinda killed Lilith with the Mark of Cain, me and Jace made up again, but apparently it had already been too late and somehow my brother is back and kidnapped my love, I swear if that bitch touches a hair on Jace's head I will destroy him *clenches fist*, just you Sebastian if the Clave doesn't do to much to me, I'll hunt your ass down and rescue my boyfriend. Also COFFEE PLEASE!!

Jace: Dear diary, I am being tortured with nightmares, I am tired and I feel sick all the time, my head feels like someone is repeatedly hitting it, I think I may be dying, my father is still hurting me from the grave, me and Clary still have this secret, I keep killing Clary in my nightmares so I can't be near her, I can't hurt her it would kill me, I would deserve it but I don't want it to come to that. Alec is on vacation with Magnus and he keeps sending me postcards signed with "Wish you were here, except not" idk what that is supposed to mean. Izzy and Simon are together and idk what that is either. Jocelyn hates me, can't blame her though, I also know myself Clary could do better. Wow I am just being pathetic now.

*Later*

Well me and Clary made out in an alley, but I ran away like a dumbass cause I can't hurt her, but I think I did hurt her, and we made up again and now I apparently have to do a ritual that is for babies, what has my life become, but it gets worse, before they could do the ritual Lilith got me and now I am possessed.

Well Clary and Simon both got kidnapped, only I kidnapped Clary and hurt like I swore I wouldn't do. Simon defeated Lilith, it was kinda badass but I'll never tell him that. Anyway Clary confessed her undying love for me and I am shooketh but like can't let that show or everyone will find out I am nothing but a softie and no one will take me serious and just be like he'll do it he is too gentle and soft to say no, and I'll be stuck in a spiral. Also I may have been kidnapped not sure but I feel weird so. . .

Alec: Dear diary, it's me, me and Magnus were on vacation and shit happened and now we aren't, also apparently Magnus started a cult at some point, anyway I'll get into that later. So we thought if we came home and pretended to still be on vacation we would actually get some alone time and yeh me and Magnus took our relationship to the next level, except I still don't know much about him, anyway my mom called me and said they needed Magnus to speak to a prisoner they had cause he's the only one they'll speak to, well guess what that prisoner ended up being his ex girlfriend, the damn universe loves fucking with me. Sorry I am just frustrated.

*Later*

So. . . I may have been an asshole to Magnus, you know what no, I was definitely an asshole to Magnus but I just want to know more about him and he never talks to me about these things, and I found out he's been with so many people and I have only ever been with him, how am I supposed to keep up? How am I supposed to be what he needs when I have no experience? So much has happened and idk what to do anymore and I am probably ruining our relationship but he also knows so much about me and I know nothing about him, it just makes me feel like he doesn't plan on having me for a long time like I thought.

*Later later*

Well shit, so much has happened, what has my life become? I am breaking rules, Camille offered to tell me a way I can make Magnus not be immortal anymore and I took her bait like the idiot I am, and Jace is kidnapped, Clary is a wreck and blames herself, Isabelle is upset cause she thinks she lost another brother and I don't want to think about it. That bitch Sebastian is back and took Jace, Lilith was defeated by Simon and honestly everything has gone to chaos, also Apparently Jace died and Clary brought him back with the Angel's wish, I have no idea what the Clave may do to her.

Magnus: Dear diary, things have been interesting lately, interesting in not a good way, so much has happened, me and Alec fought a cult I may have kinda started, and I almost died, I also saw my dad, didn't like that last one at all. But me and Alec decided to cut our vacation short, I'll get into everything that happened later, but yeah we pretended we were still on it and we're just at my loft, we also took the next step in our relationship, though I think Alec still feels insecure in the relationship, but I am not one for sharing my past. Anyway I got called by Alec's mother Maryse to talk to a prisoner they have and it turns out it's Camille and I had to tell that bish Alec is my future, she didn't like that but she doesn't have a boyfriend with a stamina rune.

*Later*

Alec and me had a fight, and he knows about how many people I have been with now, and I think he feels more insecure, and he's mad at me, but like I don't know. Sometimes I wish he would understand it isn't easy for me either. But Jocelyn and Luke's party is something, I sense awkwardness and isn't just from me and Alec, I hate awkwardness.

Well fuck. These Shadowhunters and all their chaotic shit really will be the death of me, Biscuit's brother is fucking back, Jace got kidnapped but before that was apparently possessed by Lilith???? Simon also apparently defeated Lilith???? What the fuck is happening, also apparently Izzy and Simon broke up at some point idk, and now we have to find blondie, Alec and Izzy and Clary are all sad so yeah, fine! I miss him a little too, and Sebastian can't be running around causing evil and destruction.

3x12

OK OK OK, so I watched 3x12 FINALLY and all I have to say is WOW.

The Clary and Jonathan scenes were iconic, Luke does an amazing job at making me love a character I really should hate, I lowkey am loving team evil.

Ok, now for the drumroll, the malec training scene ENDED ME, it was just so perfect, the training scene kiss is hands down my fav now, first of all WE COULD SEE IT, and oh my god I had to open a window, mamma mia. Also the way Magnus tried to play it cool after Alec told him to go to the bedroom, but then just gave up and ran is honestly a mood. Them in the bed, bitch my wig portalled all the way to Paris, ‘you miss my cat eyes’, ‘it clearly looked like you enjoyed yourself’ ‘I think I should get someone else to train me, it doesn’t help when I want to kiss my instructor every five mins’ , and not to mention Alec’s FACE, these kinky mofos I swear to god, I love my boys. Also ‘I wanna hit up this place all the kids have been twittering about’ iconic. And return of Alec ‘professing my love for my boyfriend all day everyday’ Lightwood is back and better than ever baby. That speech about making the most of life got me EMOTIONAL. ‘I’m looking into the eyes of the man I love’ BITCH SAME. But I can still see Magnus hurting over his magic loss which CRUCIFIES ME, but he seems happier, but I’m looking forward to him getting his magic back.

I’ve only had Cain for five mins and I would already kill for him I stg.

Sizzy RISE, Simon is such a good guy, even as he’s about to die he thinks of his mom and sisters, god I love him, also Izzy being there to comfort him was everything, as a book reader also, I’m so excited to see Sizzy, tho I am sad that their pushing Maia away and making her the villain, my badass babe deserves more.

I’m probably gonna keep rewatching this episode because I know there’s so much angst to come and this was such a fuzzy ep (apart from poor Simon nearly dying)

For me 3B feels so different from the other seasons, but in the best way possible, you can see how much these characters have grown and how relationships have blossomed.

Also Luke and Maryse WE STAN.

Edit: I do agree the Clace scene seemed a bit poorly executed, but hey ho. ALSO THE ALEC AND LUKE SCENE IN PARIS LOOKED SO CHOPPY IM CRYIN

this is @lynne-monstr‘s fault. idek, that’s all I’ve got. There were Malec proposals all over my dash yesterday, I guess I needed to contribute?

Alec does not propose to Magnus at first sight.

He almost thinks it during that first proper introduction, that first look at the breadth of his shoulders and the warmth of his smile and the spark of magic in his eyes. Please, look at me like that forever.

Once he’s finally stopped hiding behind Jace and Lydia and the Lightwood name, once he’s finally chosen to remember that look in Magnus’ eyes, he allows himself to imagine a world where he said that out loud, asked for that forever. He imagines a kinder world, one where his parents had raised him to believe in the impossible rather than required him to do it every day. He wonders about that world, kinder to both of them, a world that had never taught Magnus that other people couldn’t be trusted with all of him, a world that never tried to convince him that he was always too much. He wonders if in that world, Magnus would have said yes.

When Izzy teases him before their first date, you’re gonna have beautiful babies together, he can’t ignore the lurch of hope in his chest, though he tries to cover it with a joke.

“Yes, of course, I’ve known him for five minutes, and for most of that time I was an asshole to him. I’m absolutely going to start the night with a proposal, that’ll go over well.”

Izzy laughs. “Well there are all sorts of proposals aren’t there? Plenty of reasons to be down on a knee or two.”

He throws his boot at her. She dodges easily, and he hears her laughing all the way down the hallway as she escapes.

He does not make either sort of proposal that night, though he can feel how much he wants them both, an almost beautiful weight somewhere between his lungs, an ache that makes it difficult to remember how to breathe.

He doesn’t propose on their second date, either, though Magnus still makes him breathless.

He suspects that Magnus will always make him breathless.

He doesn’t propose the first time they make love or the first time they say I love you.

He’s gotten used to it now, that weight resting in his chest between his heartbeats, between his breaths, so used to it he forgets he’s never said it. He thinks it must be obvious when he tells Magnus I don’t think I can live without you. He's afraid that he's given it away without asking properly, and Magnus deserves to be asked properly, deserves to know that someone chose him, has chosen, will always choose Magnus. Alec thinks it's so clear that for him this is forever.

But apparently not.

He’s glad he he’s managed to keep that secret when despite the fact that the loft is his home, that Magnus is the only home he’s ever really known, he realizes that Magnus does not feel the same way about Alec, that he doesn’t need Alec’s heartbeat beside him in quite the same way, that Magnus doesn’t want his home to be their home.

It hurts almost as much as the day Magnus walked away from him, from them, and Alec spends the whole day breathless for entirely different reasons than usual.

He and Izzy and Jace were his comrades in arms, they were all each others refuge in hostile territory. His siblings are more important to him than his own life, but even they could never make the Institute more than a fortress, could never turn it into their home. He'd thought he'd found it at last, that Magnus would want...

But Magnus doesn’t need what he needs, want what he wants, not in this, not yet.

He thinks he understands a bit better now, the way Magnus is so very cautious about letting parts of himself free where Alec can see them. Thinks he understands a small part of what Magnus means when he makes it so clear that no one has ever loved him back in the way he needed. Never loved him back as much as he loved them. Alec knows it's not the same, knows that Magnus loves him, knows that their timing's just... off. But he can see it now, the steps from how he feels right now to the sort of heartbreak Magnus has survived.

He doesn't know how Magnus survived; he can still barely breathe.

He knows better than to bring it up before Magnus leaves for Edom, or when he returns. Not when he sacrificed so much of himself for the rest of the world, for Jace. Not when he sacrificed because of Alec.

Alec still wants his forever, but he doesn’t want Magnus to think it’s situational, afraid of loss, scared of the future. Doesn’t want it to be tainted by guilt or despair. It’s supposed to be about joy.

They’re not very good at joy.

They’re getting better.

He still hopes, every night, in those moments after he closes his eyes and before he falls asleep.

He doesn’t propose when he does officially move in. He doesn't propose on a holiday, on New Year's or Valentine's or their anniversary, even though it’s seemed for awhile now that the world finally isn’t about to end. Magnus isn’t ready.

Alec plans it, tweaking the possibilities every time he’s got a few moments free, every time he lingers half-awake in the morning, trying to remember his dreams. What if…

He doesn’t propose. He wants to. Jace asks him when they’re going to set a date already, as if it’s overdue, as if marriage is an easy thing for a gay Shadowhunter and an immortal Warlock, and actually winces at the glare Alec gives him.

No one else says anything, though he catches a few arch glances from Izzy, glimpses shared looks between her and Clary, even from Simon and Maia and Luke and his mother. They all seem to think it’s easy, think that he and Magnus will always be together, that neither of them have had to put in any work to keep it that way.

Relationships take effort.

By now Alec’s carried that ache in his chest for so long he can’t tell anymore, can’t tell what’s hope or despair, what’s true or what’s fear. Magnus wasn’t ready, but now the weight of his past seems visibly lighter on his shoulders, the tone of his voice is sweeter when reminiscing. They're changing together, each moment they're easier and stronger and more comfortable together, day by day by day.

He doesn’t propose. He's afraid he's waited too long, isn't sure how to do it now. He knows what it feels like to want when Magnus doesn't... but he thinks maybe they’re finally ready.

He tests the waters. He talks about the future more. Makes sure Magnus knows he means it in years, in decades, not just days or weeks or even months. He asks Cat about Warlock rituals, knows perfectly well she'll mention it to Magnus. He researches the Clave's history, what they did back when marrying someone other than another Shadowhunter didn't automatically mean exile and de-runing.

He leaves his books on the coffee-table.

That's the one that finally does it.

"Are you trying to tell me something, Alexander?" Magnus' voice is quiet, not quite teasing, his fingers trailing across the spine of one of the books, his gaze carefully aimed down instead of at Alec's face.

"Yeah." Alec snorts, the words falling out of his mouth before his brain can stop them. "Pretty much since I met you."

Magnus starts to roll his eyes with an abrupt huff of his breath, but he stops as he's turning and sees Alec's face directly. His mouth forms an oh, but he doesn't actually say anything. His glamour's up, and his shoulders are stiff, and his fingers are too still.

Alec wants to shake his head at himself, but manages to rein it in; Magnus would probably think it was aimed at him instead. But Alec had plans, he'd had so many plans, and he just fucked them all up. He supposes that's normal enough to be appropriate.

"I’ll always choose you." Alec isn't sure what else he can say that he hasn't before, so he stands up, steps close enough to kiss Magnus' forehead. "I love you, and whenever you're ready, let me know."

Alec turns around, but doesn’t make it back to the couch before Magnus interrupts.

"I'm ready." Magnus' voice is breathier than usual, perhaps, but warm and steady enough for Alec to know he means it.

Oh.

Alec turns back. Magnus' eyes are gold, and his smile is like nothing Alec's ever seen before, a trembling sort of smile, anticipation, joy, hope; Magnus is somehow, impossibly, even more beautiful than usual.

"Good to know," Alec manages, and he feels like he's going to float away now that the heavy ache in his chest is gone.

Magnus' smile widens, and his shoulders start to shift with a graceful back and forth, just like when he'd introduced himself back when they first met.

"I had a whole plan, you know." Alec steps closer, closer, reaches out until he can take Magnus' hands in his own. "Several possible variations of, in fact."

"Did I just ruin them?" Magnus lifts an eyebrow. His expression is smooth, but there's a hint of a tremble in his voice.

"Of course not." Alec lets go of Magnus' hands, trails his fingers up silk sleeves until he can hold Magnus' face between his hands, can feel the familiar shape of his jaw against his palms. "This is perfect. Marry me, Magnus?"

"Right now?"

Alec laughs, delighted by the spark in Magnus' eyes, the smirk warming his face. "I suppose there's probably a Downworld chapel in Vegas somewhere? I'm sure we could find one that would let us elope."

Alec feels Magnus' hands settle along his waist, watches as Magnus shakes his head with a low chuckle. "Isabelle would kill us."

"I would rather not get murdered by my sister," Alec nods. "Besides, I have met you. You need to throw an engagement party first. And a wedding reception. And possibly a few more things in there I haven't thought of yet."

Magnus hums in thought, before deigning to agree with a small nod. "Fair point. You're so clever."

"You're planning the party in your head already aren't you?" Alec nudges Magnus' foot with his own.

"Perhaps," Magnus agrees.

"Before you answer the question?"

Magnus' eyes widen, and he swallows a noise that sounds suspiciously like a snicker. "Didn't I?"

Alec attempts a pout, though he's much too delighted to be convincing, and shakes his head.

"Well then." Magnus leans forward until their noses just brush, until Alec can feel the warmth of Magnus' breath against his mouth. "Yes, I would love to marry you."

Alec lifts his chin just enough for their lips to touch. He kisses Magnus like it's the first time he's ever had the privilege, like it's the continuation of every other kiss they've ever had, like it's a promise for more of them in the future. It's soft, so soft, and warms Alec all the way down to his toes and back up again.

Alec never wants it to end.

He never wants any part of his life with Magnus to end.

And he knows, as their lips slowly part, and Magnus tugs him towards the bedroom to celebrate their engagement, that Magnus feels the same way.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market Review!

My first book of the Read to Roll challenge is Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link, and Robin Wasserman.

Here we are at the pond! Fun fact: Cassandra Clare allegedly lives in the town next to mine. I kinda really hate it.

I actually finished reading this a while ago, but I got caught up with school and the library book is due tomorrow, so I guess we’re doing this review tonight, bitches!

First: I LOVED this book!! I have my issues with CC and it took me literally took me like 9 months to finish reading QOAAD (which I also enjoyed, I just couldn’t get through) but I FLEW through this book! I think maybe the short story format just fits my brain a bit better. I’m gonna break this down by story:

Cast Long Shadows

Matthew!! My child!! I want to hug you so much!!

This story stood out to me as particularly hopeless, especially compared to the rest of the stories. It ended in total despair, and I understand Matthew did something VERY VERY BAD but he is a dumb child and dumb 15 year olds do a lot of dumb things so

I really hope he gets some sort of resolution in TLH

Every Exquisite Thing

It doesn’t really connect to the overarching plot at ALL (every other story does, correct me if I’m wrong) but i’m okay with it because anna lightwood is incredible and deserves all of the respect

the only bit that kinda not really relates is the talk about tessa’s demon parent? which is lowkey implied to be like... actually satan?? ahhhh????

That last bit with Cecily was just so beautiful. again.

I know ariadne broke annas heart but also i feel really bad for her. being a brown lesbian in 2019 is hard enough. she lost her parents and she doesn’t want to lose what she has left. i hope she also gets some sort of closure in TLH. i would be content with her and charlie having a charlotte and henry thing going minus the pining and falling in love. they’re married but it’s just business and they can pursue whomever on the side

also isabelle do you realize that necklace you’re wearing was once owned by queer QUEEN anna lightwood?????

this story was a little slow, but very necessary for introducing the lost herondale plot

so basically, celine was horribly abused her entire life by the people who should have taken care of her, her trauma was exploited by another abuser so that she too became incredibly manipulative and potentially abusive, and then she killed herself (was murdered?) and her child was ripped from her corpse to be abused throughout his entire childhood as well

it was cute seeing kit’s parents! they were so cute! what happened.

the scene at the end where jem tells kit that where there is love there is no need for gratitude also has me shook bc we’ve been talking about this a lot in my spanish class, about how so many of us are trained to be complacent and to show gratitude for things that should be a given

Overall, I really enjoyed the book even though some parts bored me and I kinda skimmed through. I’m reading Girls of Paper and Fire now, so we’ll see when I finish that!
