What was the inspiration for your OC Asha? -馃拰 (shy anon)
Hi Shy Anon!
No worries, I'm quite shy myself. I understand. But I'm always open for a good chat and making new friends if you some day find the desire to do so. Until then, feel free to send me any anon asks you like!
Inspiration for Asha -- well, there are a lot of them, actually.
First thing's first, though, Asha's a huge part in how I cope with my C-PTSD. Ever since I was very young, I have escaped into books and shows I liked as characters from those universes. I imagined what it was like to form friendships and romantic relationships to just deal with what I was going through. As I grew up, it never really stopped, it just had varying degrees of intensity.
I've been on a long journey about healing, and I've learned that this isn't an uncommon thing. So I decided to own it. Asha is a repository for a lot of my trauma, grief, and healing. If she can heal, love and be loved, find the strength to thrive, maybe I can, too. As such, though, she is a very vulnerable part of me. Only the last several months have I been opening up about her, and it has admittedly been difficult. I've questioned myself on whether or not I should stop and just keep her to myself.
For her looks: she's a Twi'lek, which has always been my favorite Star Wars race. Ever since I was a kid watching the Twi'leks in Jabba's Palace in Return of the Jedi, I loved them. I thought they were so cool-looking and pretty. Later, when there was more Twi'leks than just Oola and Lyn Me, I became even more interested in them. Nowadays, my favorite Twi'lek character (aside from Asha 馃き) is Hera.
Lyn Me is the visual inspiration for Asha; I really liked the idea of a white Twi'lek. But there's also a design element: I wanted Asha to be a blank canvas, someone who used color and fashion as a tool.
Asha started as a Rebels oc, just someone in my head I could use to escape again. Someone just to go along with the Ghost Crew and have fun. When Thrawn was announced, and I ended up obsessing over him, she switched to an OC I could partner to him. So yeah, she's been in my head an OC for Thrawn since 2016 (when I scarfed up every single Thrawn crumb I could prior to his debut in Rebels).
Asha has bits of my own trauma in her past. Different, but similar enough for me to use her to process. It's why I write a lot of fluffy little bits between her and Thrawn: it is absolutely a self-soothing thing.
馃 I hope this is a satisfying answer! If not, feel free to ask anything else you're curious about!

It's like we all collectively forgot as a society that friendship and just connection in general takes effort. Even if you meet someone you immediately click with, it takes hanging out about 20 times (!) to become friends. And guess what, some of those 20 meetings might be awkward or unimpressive.
We all want to reap the benefits (having a friend circle, having a partner, getting married) without doing the work (going to events, interacting with people, learning to handle conflict maturely, dating). Myself included. If I could, I'd never leave the house or go on another mediocre date again... except, that's part of the process.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, the cure to the loneliness epidemic is touching some grass and building tolerance for tedious in-person interactions.

People liking your personal OCs is still such a crazy feeling, I've been doing this for years and ppl asking about them still fills my entire heart with warmth and idk how to handle it
You enjoy this fictional guy I made up for fun?? Whose only content is random artwork or writing made by me and a handful of other artists at most? They have no show/book/game with a large fandom, it's just one person with an art blog?? I love u

One of my biggest nitpicks in fiction concerns the feeding of babies. Mothers dying during/shortly after childbirth or the baby being separated form the mother shortly after birth is pretty common in fiction. It is/was also common enough in real life, which is why I think a lot of writers/readers don't think too hard about this. however. Historically, the only reason the vast majority of babies survived being separated from their mother was because there was at least one other woman around to breastfeed them. Before modern formula, yes, people did use other substitutes, but they were rarely, if ever, nutritionally sufficient.
Newborns can't eat adult food. They can't really survive on animal milk. If your story takes place in a world before/without formula, a baby separated from its mother is going to either be nursed by someone else, or starve.
It doesn't have to be a huge plot point, but idk at least don't explicitly describe the situation as excluding the possibility of a wetnurse. "The father or the great grandmother or the neighbor man or the older sibling took and raised the baby completely alone in a cave for a year." Nope. That baby is dead I'm sorry. "The baby was kidnapped shortly after birth by a wizard and hidden away in a secret tower" um quick question was the wizard lactating? "The mother refused to see or touch her child after birth so the baby was left to the care of the ailing grandfather" the grandfather who made the necessary arrangements with women in the neighborhood, right? right? OR THAT GREAT OFFENDER "A newborn baby was left on the doorstep and they brought it in and took care of it no issues" What Are You Going to Feed That Baby. Hello?
Like. It's not impossible, but arrangements are going to have to be made. There are some logistics.

As the Mom of quite the bunch of kids herself, how do you think Asha would get along with Soontir and Syal Fel? Would her kids get along with their six?
Oh, it's been so long since I've read anything Legends, but likely so! Asha's fairly amiable, I like to think, provided no one severely pisses her off. I admit, I can't remember the Fels too well, but when away from the Imperial court, Asha likes to make honest connections with people, especially people Thrawn trusts (because then she trusts them). So I'd like to think she'd get a long great with them. At least she and Syal would bond over pregnancies and motherhood, I think.
If there were, say, all in something like The Empire of the Hand, I imagine the children would see a lot of each other. And Asha loves children, so I could see her in the kitchen, counting heads as she makes snacks for all the kids running around her place, whether they're Chiss, Twi'lek, human, or some combination of any of those, lol. Or other, idk, she wouldn't question it. Random Mon Cal kid rolls up? They're getting hugs and food, too, lol. So adding the Fel kids into the mix? Asha wouldn't bat an eye.
What little I have of Asha's children, well, I can imagine there would be close bonds, but perhaps not always easy ones. Aden, the eldest, is very broody, and the second eldest, Azar, is competitive af. They butt heads with each other and probably any of them more strong willed Fel kids. Ariellis, the eldest daughter, is a bit stuck-up, I'd love to see her get humbled by one of the other Fel kids. She needs it. Thistle/Istlet is down for A D V E N T U R E so if any of the Fel kids wanna explore, she's the one who'd drag THEM around. Elrin and Erisse are quieter, more delicate, especially Elrin, and would prefer the more bookish Fel kids.
Un'hee I see a little more separate from all of them, not having grown up with them. A little more aloof, still haunted by her own past. Quiet. But, at the same time, she loves all of them just the same. They are her family.
Idk, this was a hard one 馃
