Buck wakes to a small puddle of drool on Tommy's tee shirt and the insistent sound of incoming texts. "That's you," he says, batting at Tommy, who grumbles and rolls over to his nightstand to check his phone.
Another incoming text chimes and Tommy gives Buck a look. "And that's you."
Buck gropes for his phone - ha, it did end up between the headboard and the mattress. Its lit up screen proclaims two texts from Eddie Diaz, sent to the group chat he has with Eddie and Tommy.
"You've got to get a new network," Tommy says, yawning.
"It's not about getting there first, it's about the journey," Buck says, elbowing Tommy lightly. "As you like to remind me."
Tommy snorts, then there's quiet for a moment while they read the messages.
Tommy breaks the silence first. "It's Chris' birthday soon?"
"Yeah." Buck has deliberately kept thoughts of it out as his mind, but he feels it needle at him every time he checks his calendar and sees the date creeping closer. But now, with Eddie inviting both of them over to celebrate, they're knocking on his skull, demanding attention.
"Well." Tommy wraps a warm arm around Buck's middle. "Let's help Eddie show him how much love there is for him here."
Buck grabs for Tommy's hand.
Three hours later, they're at Party City, and their cart is full of packs of balloons, party hats, and garlands.
Tommy looks over the cart with a critical eye. "I think Eddie'll be set until the kid's eighteen."
"We can always reuse some of it for Jee, her birthday's soon," Buck says absentmindedly, considering whether he needs the one and four candles. Half a beat later, he realizes what he's said, but if Tommy wasn't scared off by a wedding invitation as a second date, he's probably not going to flee at the implication that he's helping Buck throw his niece a birthday party.
"We'll have to come back for princesses and unicorns," Tommy says, pressing a kiss to Buck's cheek.
That wedding invite might have been his greatest idea ever. "Oh, that reminds me, I saw some Star Wars stuff on Aisle 3."
Tommy frowns. "Not sure if he'd like that. He texted me about a month ago telling me he hated The Acolyte."
"That sounds like a whole sentence," Buck points out, and tries desperately not to be jealous that Tommy is getting entire sentences from Chris while he's being left on read or only receiving a thumbs up in reply, even when he's telling Chris about the coolest things that happen on the job.
"It was the only one I got." Tommy nudges Buck with his shoulder. "I asked him what he hated about it and he never responded."
"Maybe he'll tell you tomorrow," Buck says.
"And he'll tell you how cool it was when you rescued that guy who thought trying to parasail on a couch was a good idea."
"Yeah! And he'll tell Eddie -" Buck trails off. He knows what he wants Chris to tell Eddie, because he can see how much it's tearing Eddie up inside to have Chris in Texas. And he wants to take Chris to the California Science Center, because they've got a new exhibit on Leonardo, and they could listen to Tommy tell them about aviation history, Leonardo's helicopter drawing.
"Maybe," Tommy says, and they feel the weight of it.
Buck clears his throat. "Let's help Eddie throw him the best party we can, okay?"

okay look listen, the first time buck is riding tommy and they start slow and careful because it's a new position and maybe they haven't done much anal yet. buck is on tommy's lap with his legs sprawled on both sides and tommy's hands are covering his waist and their faces are so close. tommy is guiding him up and down slowly at first, just petting his legs, kissing his face, gently fucking up into him. gradually they speed up, buck getting into it, then faster and faster and faster, and buck gets so overwhelmed with the position and having a cock inside him like this so he starts jumping on tommy's cock. tommy is basically caught between his iron-lock thighs as buck clings to him, starts clawing at his back, clenches around his dick, using those strong legs to glide up and down tommy's length and the mattress is creaking and buck gets soooo mindless and dumb with it all, his movements are all off-beat and out-of-rhythm and amateurish, the sweat is slicking down between their chests and he digs his heels in the bed, and he's just taking taking taking while switching between moaning into tommy's neck and trying to suck on his tongue all messily as tommy tries to calm him down and steady him so they can settle into a better position where buck actually gets his prostate pounded like he wants but buck is so overwhelmed with tommy just taking space inside him and how close they are and how he's got tommy locked in and under him and he's whining in protest at tommy's baby calm down, crying, basically throwing a fit and being brat extraordinaire bc he doesn't want to let go of the cock inside him and there are frustrated tears crowding his eyes and his thighs are burning as he pulls up and sinks back down and he's wetly moaning against tommy's mouth. at last tommy snaps and overpowers him into flipping their positions and then he fucks him as he deserves as they kiss all messily, tear, sweat, drool. happy ending ♡

“Do you think I look silly?”
Phil stops in his tracks, turning to give Dan a once over.
If Phil were a little braver he’d say he thought Dan looked hot. The ears, haphazardly done eyeliner, and poorly drawn bear features would have anyone cooing over Dan. It made Phil want to kiss him until he couldn’t breathe, and even though their relationship was way passed the point of just being friendly he still finds himself hesitating when it comes to Dan.
So Phil settles on, “Uh, I think you look adorable.” And tries to stop his heart from beating out of his chest.
Dan rolls his eyes and continues walking. “I’m not trying to look adorable,” he says. “I’m a bear not a bunny.”
Phil runs to catch up with him, it’s night and they’re walking around London without a care in the world. They’re supposed to be meeting up with some friends for the Halloween gathering but Dan wanted to make a quick detour and get some coffee to warm them up.
“Well I think bears are adorable.” Phil mutters, his face is heating up and he hopes with the chill in the air he can blame it on being cold.
Dan bumps their shoulders together, his fuzzy covered hand briefly makes its way into Phil’s, squeezing lightly, and it’s so sudden he can barely react before it’s gone again.
If Phil were as brave as he thought he was he’d reach out and hold Dan’s hand again. Maybe if he were back home in Manchester he’d have kissed him already, but they’re not in Manchester they’re in London. Phil’s only been a hand full of times and while the city is so big and he knows no one is paying them any mind be can’t bring himself to do it. To bridge the gap and make a move, to qualm his beating heart.
He can tell he’s been quiet for too long because Dan taps him on the shoulder.
“You alright?” he asks. He’s giving Phil a look as if he’s scared he’s just done the wrong thing.
Phil quickly shakes his head and smiles. He is happy tonight, his best friend is with him and he’s out in London without his parents or his brother watching over him. Most importantly it’s Halloween, his favorite holiday. Tonight will be a good night, he just knows it will.
“I’m alright,” he says, just as they round the corner and see two zombies and a witch run up to a person dressed as Scooby Doo. Just down the road a bit, near a small fountain are growing groups of people and judging by the volume of the crowd that starts to steadily grow by the second, he can tell they’ve made it to the gathering.
His nerves start to dissipate when he spots a couple of mates. He grabs Dan’s arm and pulls him along.
“I see Aaron and Yaz.” Phil says, he hopes Dan can hear him over the loudness of everyone. They reach them and quickly say their hellos, a couple of people stop to chat with them. Video cameras have been pulled out, and Phil briefly wonders if he should have brought his to capture the night but he’s glad he gets to live in the moment instead.
Dan is chatting with someone dressed as a lady bug and Phil has somehow gotten someone to give him a plastic sword to wave around. The night has just started but he can tell it’s going to be a good one.
Somewhere in between chatting with a pirate about collabing on a Youtube video and trying not to lose Dan in the thick crowd, someone proposes they catch the tube to go get some good and walk around the shops.
Phil spins around to try and talk to Dan about the change in plans and finds that he’s already beside Phil, smiling at him.
“Are you hungry?” He yells, crowding in closer so that they can hear each other. Phil is well aware of the cameras lurking around but he can’t seem to care because Dan is looking at him with a twinkle in his eyes from the lights hung around and he’s so beautiful. Phil wishes they could have a moment alone so he can kiss this boy breathless.
Dan shrugs, “Yeah.”
They say goodbye to his mates and walk with a slightly smaller group of people to the nearest station.
Their shoulders bump as they walk, as close as they can be around a group of people they barely know.
“Are you having a good time?” Phil asks, just as someone walks by videoing the group as they walk.
Dan makes a small noise, “Yeah, I guess I didn’t expect it to be so many people.”
Phil nods, “It is a lot. Hopefully we can make it on the tube.”
They begin the decent down, going down the stairs in a crowd of people trying to go down and others just trying to leave is a bit of a hassle but soon they’re swiping their cards and making their way into the station.
It’s congested and a bit confusing, Phil almost trips over someone and their spider costume when he feels a hand on his back. He looks over at Dan who’s looking ahead and guiding them onto the proper tube with the group. Soon the hand on his back turns into an arm around his waist and Phil can’t help but lean back into it.
They’re standing together, holding onto the railing and Dan still has his hand around Phil’s waist. No one is paying them any attention and it’s too crowded for anyone to really see or care.
“Is this alright?” Dan asks quietly in his ear.
Phil can feel himself blushing, and judging by how red Dan is he can tell he feels the same. The butterflies he’s held in his stomach all night start to flutter and even though he’s nervous he’s also incredibly happy.
“Yeah,” he whispers back, slightly breathless and giddy with excitement. They don’t really do pda all that often if at all. They haven’t defined anything outside of promises to be in each other’s lives for as long as possible. There is something growing between them that both fills him with thrilling anticipation for what will happen next but also scares him to his core.
Growing up Phil always thought that when he was older he would be brave enough to go after the things he really wants.
He realizes he doesn’t have to be brave all the time, because sometimes Dan is brave enough for the both of them.

So, "I was killed by Sauron and all I got was this shitty apprenticeship with Aulë" won this poll! Here is an excerpt, though not of the 300 new words I wrote.
---
“Well,” Celebrimbor says, “I was captured and tortured to death by Sauron, but I’m alright now.”
The little Vanya girl squints at him. “That happened to Finrod Felagund,” she says.
“So it did,” Celebrimbor agrees.
“And he’s fine now too,” she says.
“So he is,” he concedes again.
“He did it first,” she says, with a hint of accusation.
“He did a lot of things first,” Celebrimbor said, “such as painted ceilings in temples, and burgundy with pastel green in spring.”
“Do you do that?” she asks.
“I’ve been known to dabble in a painted ceiling or two,” Celebrumbor admits. “But burgundy? Not with green, no. I have not the complexion.”
“Now,” says another voice, speaking from somewhere behind them, “I daresay you could pull it off, my dear friend.”
Celebrimbor turns. Finrod Felagund himself stands on the marble steps of the house, dressed in a long pink-and-white silk robe, his golden hair loose and falling in huge ringlets about his shoulders, his green eyes light and playful, just as Celebrimbor remembers. That there is sorrow behind them is  certain thing; it would unsettling if there were not.
“Ah,” Celebrimbor says, “ever your sweet tongue gets ahead of your wisdom, my lord. But the point is moot; I am much too fond of a spring blue to ever surrender it.”
“I fear I no longer have the honor of being your lord,” Finrod says. He hops down from the steps, bird-like and light, and moves to close the distance between them. Celebrimbor has managed to forget, over the decades then centuries that have come between them, that Finrod stands nearly a head shorter than him.
They embrace. Finrod leans up on his tip-toes, and Celebrimbor holds him tighter than he ought, feeling his solid warmth, his living flesh. He feels he is dreaming. He feels he might wake up.
But he does not. Finrod kisses his cheek in greeting and draws away, tilting his head up to look at him. “You look well,” he says.

𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐡.𝟐 — 𝐊ö𝐧𝐢𝐠
Tumblr media
Part One || Part Two
Tumblr media
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 : Leaving the Cyberlife store is an... experience for the broken android. After the workforce and standing idle in the store for so long, you finally bring König home, where he learns what it would mean to be your companion. 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 : 2.3 k 𝐚/𝐧 : sincerely, thank you all for the lovely comments and interactions on the first chapter ♡ (my android son is so cute ahgkgj-) 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 : fluff, hurt/comfort(?), domestic fluff, slow burn?
Tumblr media
𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐈𝐃𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋. They had no programming to want. There were no lines of code that enabled them to dream. They were machines built to serve.
In theory, an android should not feel fear.
The WX-400, or König, glanced down at where your hand met his. The synthetic skin clasping imperceptibly onto yours. So warm and soft... and so much smaller in his own.
It kept him grounded when you guided him onto the sleek floors of the store, his sensors coming alight with all the new input his body was receiving. From being stuck in a paralyzing stasis, to feeling the cool spring sun on his skin; the slight chill of the store in his mouth; seeing the detailed cracks embedded into the pavement of the sidewalk.
His body felt like it was short circuiting. Jolted to life too fast, even if you had only led him to the curb. That soft smile on your face when he looked for assurance, still holding onto him.
What would happen if he let go? It didn't feel right to think that way. He was sure the world would not stop spinning below his feet if he did.
"König?"
Your voice made him snap out of it. Those stormy eyes of his hesitantly trailing up to meet yours.
"This is our ride," you tilted your head, gesturing to the polished self-driving car that sat on the corner of the street.
He didn't respond. Eyes flickering away, still holding onto your hand. It was a cute gesture. Maybe he just forgot to stop holding it? Or maybe the android didn't feel comfortable letting go without permission?
Hm...
You decided then: owning an android was hard.
The entire ride back to the house was a mix of stolen glances. Each entirely new to the other.
You, watching the way his soft eyes followed the people passing by on the street. Androids and humans alike. Watching, but never saying a word.
König was a sight to behold, and the smile that crawled onto your lips was inevitable.
Such a large android. Tall and built with the purpose of lifting ten times that of the average human... moving so gently, and with a hesitance for the world you'd only ever seen in stray animals.
And occasionally, when he felt you shift to watch your own window or the red-green lights of traffic. He'd consider you from the corner of his eye. Unreadable, before you could catch him and his eyes snapped back forwards.
People and buildings passed by in a blur of lights. Shops and a park filled with trees. Androids always obediently trailing after the humans who owned them, unable to do much but smile and tend to the children or shopping bags. Task after task, demand after demand.
When the car stopped at a red light, his eyes landed on a small girl, her pink rain jacket covered in a light sprinkle of rain. Jumping in every puddle she could with a giggle. The young android next to her, a dark-skinned man with long hair, smiled and did the same with her. Each taking a turn splashing gently in a puddle, unaware of the rest of the world around them, only enjoying the remnants of the rain.
Something in that image, the adoring smile on the android's face as he watched the girl play in innocent bliss, it stirred something for a long while, even after the car began to roll away.
He didn't know where the two of you were going. The thought of 'home' having no real meaning to him.
Back at the sites, the company only had two trucks to house their android workers. Rows of three in each truck, filled with small metal compartments for the mechanical men to stand in idly until the next job. Under lock and chain, so nobody stole company property, with no light except the one that blinked from his LED...
Soon, the commercial buildings melted into a quaint suburban neighborhood. Run down houses, but clearly lived in, with warm lights filling their windows.
Many had been put out of work due to the rise of android labor. He had heard one of the site managers complaining about it often.
König's eyes flickered over you for a moment again.
Did you work? Have a home or a family to go back to? People you lived with?
"We're here," you gestured sheepishly, unbuckling your seatbelt and climbing out of the car. Your hand finally slipping from his.
'Here' was a two story house with peeling paint and a handful of missing shingles. It looked like the surrounding houses. Puddles and mud around the sunken walkway from the rain, nothing but scrawny hedges growing yet.
König followed suit, ducking his head low to climb out of the car unscathed, towering back to his full height. Maybe the tallest android model built, at an impressive six foot ten inches.
He noticed you staring and his eyes hit the ground.
He was just-an amazing looking android, and his height was only more impressive to you. It was really hard not to smile. An android...
"Come on," you waved for him to follow you.
The closer you both got, the more he could see the wear. The fogged windows, the flickering outside light. Up the wooden porch that creaked dangerously under his weight, to the solid front door. That looked new.
"Well, here it is, home," you shrugged, the front door swinging open for the two of you.
"I just moved in," you explain as the android stepped through the doorframe to join you (having to bow his head again), peered around curiously. "The house is a bit old, but I'm going to fix it up for us," you nodded, looking around at the expanse of cardboard boxes in the living room. So sure of yourself.
Us?
The circular LED on his temple flickered yellow, a sign of stress that disappeared as quickly as it came.
"Here," you held your hand out for him, producing a small silver key for him to take. "House key," you explained with a sort of bounce in your toes.
It was for him, he realized.
He tilted his head, taking it from your hand, cool fingers brushing against yours as he considered you. Again.
You looked really... How should he describe it? Happy? Excited?
And you were. You had a house. A beautiful house that just needed a bit of care put into it, and an android unlike any you'd ever seen to help you make it a home.
"Well, I'd show you around but there's not much," you scratched at your neck with a sigh. It was a big house, just empty so far, and for the amount of stuff you had brought... You'd need a lot more to make it homey like you intended when you purchased the house.
You led him down the hall, shoes tapping against the wooden floorboards, dust lining the floors, but the house actually looked pretty sturdy to him.
"There's the living room, connects to the kitchen," you listed off as you walked by, "Washroom, and the basement door." You finished, pointing off to the left until you made it to the end of the hall. Still peering ahead towards a back door. Also new, he noted.
"Up the stairs is my room and a couple of... well empty rooms," you shrugged.
You had a lot on your plate, granted. Your eyes skimming over the backyard with a sigh. If you wanted flowers this year, they'd have to be planted fast... with the rest of the house to do, how hard could it be?
You spun around and faced König with a soft optimism, leading him back to the living room.
"Well, lets start with some of the bigger boxes," you nodded, the plan seeming to come together in your mind. "The movers did most of the heavy lifting, so I don't have to worry about pushing a mattress upstairs or moving all those dressers..."
It was true, there was a large cream colored couch already in the living room, along with a large white TV stand pushed against the wall.
It looked almost as big as you were, and the android found it a fitting comparison. Imagining you pushing that thing all by yourself just- didn't work in his mind.
König followed your lead, starting with the box on top of the pile that trailed along the hallway. Each one labelled quickly in sharpie.
Photos, Decorations, Dishes, Cleaning Supplies, Towels. All stuff that looked like it was supposed to be downstairs.
König decided though, to stick to the living room, carefully cutting open the taped up boxes with a precision that seemed impressive. Even manual. Carefully laying out photos and old picture frames you had decided were important.
There were a few that caught his eye. His slate colored irises lingering on your face as you smiled or laughed in a few of them. Surrounded by what he deduced were your closest friends or family members... all based on how happy you looked, or how you moved your hands to hold each person.
"You can leave the bigger ones aside König."
He nearly jumped.
"I'll put them up later," you assured him.
He glanced over his shoulder, where you now sat on the floor, fiddling with some small box in your hand.
He looked back to the photo's, a bit more hesitant to touch them now before he set them back into the box and turned towards you. The circular LED on his temple fluttering a yellow.
"I could put them up for you," he offered quietly. Given a drill or nails for them, it wouldn't take that long. In fact, the tools might've even felt familiar in his hand.
The sound of his voice, soft but rich and deep made you smile so wide he thought he had said something out of line.
He shouldn't have questioned you, he realized the mistake. His deeply scarred hands imperceptibly clasping into loose fists at his sides.
"Thank you," you began, "You could do that after we paint the walls tomorrow," you nodded, glancing around at the dim room around the two of you. "I was thinking maybe a light green? Or maybe even a smoky color?" you thought aloud, clearly having been undecided on the matter.
The LED turned blue again. The tension in his body suddenly melting away as you thanked him.
"Do you have a good color in mind?" You asked him then, suddenly wondering if androids had opinions. Or more specifically, if König did.
He shook his head quickly.
"No... favorite ones?"
And he shook his head again, his eyes fluttering downward. Was he... supposed to have one?
You only offered another soft smile, figuring as much. "We'll both come up with something," you assured quietly. Those soft eyes of yours trailing back up to him as you finally undid the box in your lap, pulling out a carefully wrapped vase. The beautiful glossy ceramic glinting in the fading light from the windows. Holding it up for him to take.
"It's going to be easier with you around," you joked softly, but it seemed true. The depth of your words had a faith in him that felt... unfamiliar.
He took the vase gently from your hands, his eyes flickering around as if he meant to say something, before he quietly turned and put it down onto a small table.
He returned to doing as you instructed, placing all of the big things into the room, leaving the walls bare for now.
The rest of the hours went by like that, you occasionally stopping to ask him something that seemed profound to his android brain.
Why would you want to know if he had a favorite animal? Or if he liked music?
What use could he have for preferences like that?
But he always answer politely, if not curtly, until the living room at least had the lights and the TV connected.
You sat down onto the couch with a huff, taking a moment to relax after the long day you'd had.
In truth, buying and owning an android never really seemed to have priority. This house did.
You glanced over at König, who was still working away quietly. Folding empty cardboard boxes up neatly and setting them aside for recycling.
"König."
He stopped when you addressed him, turning his attention back to you before he could grab another box and continue. Waiting for another command.
But, he was working too hard.
You patted the spot on the couch next to you.
And when he didn't move or seem to understand the gesture, your face lit up in amusement. "Come sit, relax for a bit," you trailed off. He was an android, sure, but it didn't mean... well that he was a machine.
The thought made your chest feel heavy suddenly. It was easy, with how human-like they looked, to forget that they weren't human.
The large android did as you said and sat down. The cushions dipping beneath him and making you lean that way with a small laugh.
He was so rigid, even for an android. Sitting up straight, scarred hands on his knees, not even leaning against the back of the couch. Unsure really what to do without someone's input.
'Relax?' Did he really know how to?
König watched you from the corner of his eye again as you flicked on the TV. Your feet pulled up, sinking comfortably into the cushions. Your knees almost brushing his.
It reminded him of the store, only a few hours earlier.
How warm you were next to him, and how that smile lingered on your lips as you watched the TV tiredly.
The moment you turned to catch his gaze, he straightened again, eyes forward, pretending to watch the screen. His LED blinking that sunny yellow.

Easy as That [9-1-1 | Buck & Eddie | 1/1]
in honor of 9-1-1 day, please enjoy this little episode tag for 7x04 that i recently found in my drafts. because i really wanted to see the conversation between buck and eddie after all that
850 words episode tag | apologies | friendship
-
The first words out of Buck's mouth when Eddie pulls the door open are, "I figured I owed you a proper apology."
"Yeah," Eddie agrees mildly. He's got a crutch tucked under his arm, which makes it difficult to maneuver the door, so he lets Buck deal with it even though he's got a pile of takeout bags in one hand. Apology takeout, no doubt. The bags are stamped with the logo from Anarkali's, and he can smell curry and ginger. As bribes go, he could have done worse. Eddie is weak for their chicken jalfrezi. "You kinda do."
"Not kinda. I was—I was so out of line, Eddie, I'm so sorry."
"Shit happens."
"What, as easy as that?"
Eddie snorts, heading back into the kitchen without bothering to look back and see if Buck is following him. He is, of course. He always is. They already talked on the phone last night, when Eddie was loopy on painkillers and feeling kinda bad about winding Buck up as much as he did. He's less stoned now, and his ankle fucking hurts, so it's a little sharper when he says, "I was always gonna forgive you. You want me to drag it out?"
"Well, when you put it like that, no. But still."
Eddie sighs. It's a character flaw, probably, that he can't resist Buck's face when he looks like this. "We'll get past it. Just like you and Chim did after he decked you that one time. Okay?"
Buck presses his lips together and nods. He sets the bags down on the table and says, "I don't have to stay. If you want some space."
"I don't want space. Maybe an explanation." He nods toward the kitchen drawers. "You can get the forks. I hope you brought enough for both of us, because I'm not sharing."
"Yeah. I—I figured if you didn't want me around, there'd be leftovers."
"I always want you around, you idiot."
"Even after I broke your ankle?"
"It's just a sprain."
"That feels sort of like missing the point, Eddie."
"Listen," Eddie says. He eases himself into a chair, propping the crutch against the table next to him. In the kitchen, Buck pauses with the silverware drawer half-open, takes a visible deep breath, and turns back toward him with a pair of forks clutched in his hand. "You acted like an idiot, and somebody got hurt. It happens. So now you're gonna bring me a fork, sit your ass down, and tell me what's going on with you. Okay?"
"Okay," Buck says, pushing the silverware drawer gently shut. He brings the forks back to the table, sets one in front of Eddie, and reaches into the bag to pull out the takeout containers.
There's a few minutes of silence while they get everything dished out, and then Eddie takes a bite of his jalfrezi, takes a moment to savor it, then says, "Okay. Talk."
"I mean, I don't know what to say," Buck says evasively. Eddie gives him a look, and he sighs. "Okay, I—I was jealous. Of you, and—and Tommy."
"Tommy," Eddie repeats.
Buck nods, his gaze fixed on his takeout dish, which he's sort of poking at like he expects it to come to life. Eddie reaches across to steal a piece of coconut curry. Buck doesn't even try to knock his fork out of the way. It's kind of amazing how much he looks like a kicked puppy right now. "I—I guess, I thought, you know, I thought he was so cool, and you thought he was so cool, and all of a sudden you guys were hanging out all the time and you kept saying how well you two clicked…"
"I was messing with you. You get that, right?"
"I mean. Now, yeah. Then I just felt like…I don't know. I—I should have talked to you, instead of—but I didn't mean for it to go down like that. I swear."
Eddie nods, chewing the inside corner of his lip briefly. "It was still a dick move."
"Yeah," Buck says. "It was."
"Well, as long as you get that."
"I really do."
"And you and Tommy are cool, now? You kissed and made up?"
Surprisingly, Buck's face goes bright red. Eddie raises his eyebrows, and he says, "Y-yeah, we're—we talked, and—we're good, yeah." He opens his mouth, makes a little stuttering noise, then says, "We're, uh, we're actually hanging out this weekend."
"Without me?" Eddie deadpans, and Buck looks so stricken that he has to laugh. "Kidding, I'm kidding, come on. I'm glad. I knew you two would get along."
"Yeah," Buck says. He lets out a shaky little laugh, then nods a couple of times and says it again. "Yeah."
Eddie raises his eyebrows, but Buck's not looking at him. He's busy spearing a piece of curry, and this time when Eddie tries to steal a bite, Buck smacks at his fork until he retreats, a juvenile little ritual that probably shouldn't make Eddie feel so light. He knows he's not getting the full story of what's going on with Buck, but that's okay. They're okay. He'll find out the rest of it eventually.

All right. Here's what I've been thinking about though:
Celeborn falling apart in the aftermath of the war. Beleriand literally crumbling down around everyone, the water pouring in. Everyone lost people in that desperate time-- and he was a soldier wounded in body and mind-- he was lost. He lost her. Galadriel. And he lost others, too, comrades and friends from Doriath, Sirion-- blood and bodies beneath the waves, so many ghosts.
There was a point where he just... it felt like he crawled through the years. Existing, wandering, lost, lost, lost. Eventually, he found other Sindar-- Oropher who had never liked him much, Amdír who liked him well enough. Amdír said, stay with me and help our people, and so Celeborn did. They go to Edhellond first, where Celeborn loses his voice again entirely, drawing inward and trying to shield himself from painful memories of Sirion-- and then Amdír leads them to Lórinand, which Celeborn likes better. He's always felt much more at home in forests than by the sea or under a hill.
There is a little girl with silver hair, an orphan of the war. He doesn't adopt her so much as she adopts him. One day, she marches up to him and puts her tiny hand in his and orders him to tell her about the flowers that cover the ground and the birds that roost in the trees. He does his best, though his voice is a little rough. He helps her climb up a very tall tree. When she scrapes her hands, he cleans the little cuts, kisses them better at her request. When she is tired, he carries her back to where the other motherless, fatherless children stay. She clutches the end of his long silver braid in her sleep.
She's so young, all her family gone. She doesn't remember what her parents called her beyond endearments, but something in her bearing reminds him of-- well. The first time she makes him laugh, he calls her a little queen. So it's rían. Celeborn's rían. Celebrían.
He and Galadriel were waiting to have children until the war was over. Until there was peace in the land and in their hearts. Sometimes there is something like peace in the rolling hills and the whispering trees. But not all the time. And not often in his heart.
He dreams about Galadriel dancing in starlight and sunlight before shadows creep across his vision and steal her away. There's a pull in his heart to the world beyond, but he doesn't leave. But he doesn't leave the forest.
He stays and raises Celebrían as his own. He stays where his daughter can always find him.
The settlement in Lórinand grows. Amdír and Celeborn argue about establishing ties with the high-king beyond the Hithaeglir. Amdír wants nothing to do with the Noldor, but Celeborn talks him into at least having scouts out in the world beyond their forest, to gather news if nothing else. Amdír puts Celeborn in charge of them and of the border guard.
Celeborn misses his friends, his fellow marchwardens, Mablung and Beleg, long dead now, their bones in the ocean. He weeps when he tells Celebrían stories of the home he can never show her. Doriath. Sirion.
Celebrían's hand is still small in his, even when she is grown. She takes up healing as a profession. When his voice fails him, she waits for him to find it again. She listens to all of his stories.
She is there when they first see the haze of smoke in the sky and feel the rumbling of the earth. There are people out there who need our help, she says, we should do what we can to aid them-- and so. They gather intelligence from the scouts, reluctant approval from Amdír, and a small force of Sindar and Silvan.
They march under the sun and stars and-- in Eregion, Celeborn and his daughter find a ghost. Galadriel, on the battlefield, no longer lost.

Penelope owns a golden chain.
It is a thick, large piece with two cuffs connected to one end of it, made of robust metal that still shines beautifully years later. It stretches perhaps some four metres, at most, and the clasp in the middle allows her to twist it tighter if she wants it to. The blacksmith she had commissioned it from had given her two copies of the key- one of which she'd tossed off of a high cliff, and the other that she keeps safe in a locked box in her room.
It can clasp to her bed, to the throne and to the bath flooring. She had it enchanted by a witch on the run from a neighbouring kingdom in exchange for security, to never cross the limits of the shoreline- so she never loses it, she'd said. She had won a favour off an alchemist in a bet and gotten it spelled to never break. She polishes it every day carefully to look it's best before she leaves the room.
It has only one use.
"I will hobble you like a horse," She hisses to her husband when he returns to her after twenty years. Adjusts herself and leans down to whisper in his ear, "I will chain you down like a common beast, cut out that silver tongue of yours so you can no longer get into trouble, break your fucking legs."
The chain clinks as Odysseus gasps for air. Penelope smiles and traces the edge of his adoring, breathless grin. "You are not allowed to leave me ever again."
Penelope owns a golden chain.
It looks wonderful around her husband's feet.

an idea that's been banging around in my head for a few days now. I hope it reads ok
Daniel is a thief/jewel thief/ I imagine him sorta like cat woman in the sense of they’re all in this heist-y underground spy like universe. And he’s well known for getting into places and stealing what he wants or is hired to steal and getting out.
And there’s a big job happening at some rich person's party
Daniel knows that Lewis and his crew are there, he’s done jobs with them before. And Lewis even offered him to be in the crew if he stays around long enough.
To stay with him.
He never really does.
So he knows who the mark is and essentially everyone’s plan. He promised Lewis to stay out the way cause he’s come for idk jewelry and that’s nowhere near where everyone else plans to be
He finds his mark and gets him to lead him to the bedrooms and he’s putting on the moves on this guy to get him right where he wanted him and the door opens and Max walks in to see Daniel straddling this guy. Daniel scrambles to sedates him while Max is bewildered and upset (jealous). Because they have history.
Max used Daniel for a previous job, faked interest and a relationship with him to get close to a mark. Daniel didn’t know it was a job and when he met Max, Daniel wasn’t even on a job. It was a whirlwind romance sorta thing and then Daniel realized near the end. Maybe Lewis was giving him information about a job potentially coming up and the mark and details seemed familiar. Like places maybe he and Max went to on dates or something
In the present, they argue in the room. Well Max argues at Daniel’s back while he scoops what he came here for.
An alarm goes off in the house (not triggered by Daniel) and they have to move quickly. Daniel drags Max out of the room and into *another* bedroom and throws him on the bed
‘What the fuck are you doing Daniel?’
‘Shut up and kiss me’
‘What?’ Daniel straddles him and kisses him just as the door opens and two guys with guns walk in, clearly security.
Daniel plays the shocked debauched party goer well and they get lead back to the party
So after they’re escorted back to the ballroom where the actual party goers were waiting to be told what the hell is going on, Daniel is hearing over coms about who fucked what and tripped which alarm. Max disappears because he wasn’t here for Daniel. Daniel stays around to make sure the security sees him a little longer before he slips out through the crowd as well and gets the fuck out of there
He’s happy, job well done. He got what he came for. Only… on the drive back to his safe house he can’t find it. The idk ring he went for. And he knows immediately that Max took it off of him. Why? No clue
Something something he goes to confront Max who doesn’t deny taking it and says he’ll give it back if Daniel went with him on a job
Cue forced proximity in a vacation setting
It’s mostly recon and Daniel’s like you really didn’t drag me all the way out here to sit in a car and stare all day. And he goes shopping and comes back to their hotel saying they’re going out for drinks because he refuses to stay in the car any longer.
They go out, have drinks, dance a little, they’re having fun. Daniel forgets why he’s annoyed at Max in the first place. Then the mark comes in and it’s business and well reality comes swiftly. They get more information than they would have if they stayed in the car
Anyway the entire time they’re there, they’d been dancing around each other and Daniel comes out and asks Max why he did what he did and Max gives a non answer maybe. Deflects. Daniel says fuck that because he’s tired of whatever Max is playing at. He knows his worth, and he won’t allow Max to make him feel like shit. Again.
He was already burned once by Max’s callousness. He doesn’t even know if Max likes him or is just cruel. He asked Max ‘What do you want from me’ and Max didn’t answer. And Daniel isn’t begging for anyone’s attention. So hurt, he leaves.
Daniel gets kidnapped by the mark.
He tells the mark that ‘well, you made the wrong choice because Max isn’t coming for him.’ The mark tries to torture answers out of Daniel anyway, answers he doesn’t give.
Max comes to save him in, quite literally, the knick of time and takes him to a safe house.
‘I didn’t sign up to die for you. You don’t even give a fuck about me’ Daniel is raging at Max. And Max is fighting himself but ultimately doesn’t say anything. Gives Daniel the ring he’d been holding over him and lets him go because Daniel didn’t sign up to die for him and Max couldn’t even tell him how he felt.
This whole thing was supposed to be so he could confess and it went terribly wrong.
They go their separate ways, with Max watching out for Daniel and keeping him safe like some shadow knight, if they happen to be on the same job.
Til one day, Daniel gets tired of it and calls him out. Max grudgingly exposes himself from his defensible position. They’re in another mansion at another party and Daniel is covered in silk and stolen jewels and he looks amazing.
‘Why are you doing this? Is this some sort of fucked up penance?’
And Max still doesn’t answer, because how can he? It is a sort of fucked up penance, and he knows Daniel won’t like the answer. Because Max can’t admit why its a fucked up penance.
Or maybe he can.
Daniel makes a derisive sound and moves to leave the room. He isn’t doing this again.
‘I love you, I’m in love with you.’ Max’s soft confession is loud in the quiet room. Daniel’s unconscious mark makes a noise as if he was coming to and Max shoots him to keep him from interrupting. He can’t deal with another interruption.
‘What??’
‘I love you.’
‘Since when?’ Daniel doesn’t believe him. Obviously.
‘Since Bali.’
Since the first time. When Daniel fell in love with Max, but it all turned out to be a ruse. A con. Daniel makes another disgusted noise and rolls his eyes.
‘When we went on that hike through the jungle, I texted the hotel to decorate our room. To get all the flowers you liked. I was going to tell you that night. I didn’t expect the mark to make his next move so quickly.’
Daniel remembered that night clearly. Going to shower and coming out seeing Max’s small bag was gone. When he got home, Lewis offered a new job and things had clicked into place painfully.
‘You just left me, and I’m supposed to believe?’
‘Daniel, I’m so sorry.’
‘And then you drag me on that stupid recon job, for what?’
‘I was supposed to confess. That was the plan. And I fucked it.’
‘I dunno if I believe you.’ Daniel says simply.
‘Let me make it up to you, prove it to you. Please.’ Max isn’t above begging. Not anymore.
Daniel regards him for a long moment before an alarm goes off.
‘You can start by getting me out of here. Since you, y’know, killed my cover.’
