Jesus is my older brother, not my dad.
other christians don't seem to feel the same?
am i missing something where he insists on such a thing except perhaps with actual little children?
#christianity#tumblrstake#Quakers#i just want to know what y'all think#progressive christianity#some christians see themselves as his children#but again most chrsitians are sippin trinity juice so the Father is the Son? egro Jesus can be Dad#i guess i'm not a true monotheist bc if Jesus is a child of God and told his disciples to call him friend. he is my peer#Jesus is my peer - big brother - mentor - friend#God the creator is my Mother/Father/Parent(s) as well as Jesus'#Jesus and I are both children of God and Jesus is my teacher/my respected older brother/ my friend#i think the Holy Spirit is what generally moves around among humans and through humans. experiencing God through others.#also an internal prompting on what direction to take (which typically needs to undergo through discernment) but is sometimes an act rn thing#hence the gift of the Holy Spirit being gifted to us#but now i'm getting theological in the tags#did i mention that all of this is through my christian lense and a muslim could have a different perception and be just as valid#and thats on different ways people see the Divine and how the Divine presents Godself/selves to different people#i know this because Heavenly Mother was at my conversion experience. she offered an invitation - an embrace#and i took it immediately a wept#and i think that presentation was intentional bc i may not have/wouldn't have reacted the same way to Heavenly Father#our relationship is good now - Heavenly Father and I -currently on the rocks in my “ God#in my “God - why?” era. shit has been dark. and people are commiting atrocites in your name#i do pray for their smitting. but only in a way God with Hir cosmic justice sees fit#and for softened hearts more often but on one occassion it was “plz get these sinners in line” and pulling out psalm 94#Godposting#religion

I will be honest I am pausing my studyblr posts to post for palestine. My brother has left this world recently (unrelated to the conflict) and when I try to distract myself from it I find myself in a world where almost everyone with any power is supporting the genocide of my fellow people.
#I understand people may have their thoughts on this#but even if you don’t agree with me#I still invite you to stay and think#and research#and question your sources#the victims are not organized#but you know what is organized? governments. you can only push propaganda if you have power and are organized#none of which the Palestinians have.#so please. please do some research and be firm in your stance whatever it is#don’t just take the stances of others to make yourself feel like a good person#when you don’t even know what it all entails#and just to clarify because we live in an era of nation states#I am not from palestine but they are my people I grew up with a community of palestinians#and as a muslim they are my brothers and sisters#tho if you do the research you’ll find that isra*l also targets palestinian christians#about half of Christian Palestinians were kicked out of Jerusalem by Isr*el

"I've been told that it's tradition in Aaru to give children some money for today, so here you go. No need to be too frugal with it -- I'm sure the others will give you plenty as well."
(Belated) Eid Mubarak everyone!
ID: a drawing of Alhaitham and Isak from Genshin Impact, with Dehya, Candace, and Cyno in the background looking at them. They're in Aaru Village during the day, and they're all wearing different outfits from their canon appearances.
Alhaitham is wearing a dark shirt with rolled up sleeves and a green scarf, his back facing the viewer; he is giving Isak a bag of Mora, smiling. Isak is wearing a long-sleeved yellow-brown shirt and longer version of his usual pants; he has stars in his eyes.
Dehya is wearing a black and red chaoui traditional dress; she's grinning and has a hand on her hip. Candace is wearing a long-sleeved white and blue dress with a violet-blue veil; she has one hand up to her mouth, and she's laughing, eyes closed. Cyno is wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, white pants, and brown shoes; he's looking over his shoulder, smiling. End ID.
Also if you love Desert Gang and miss them dearly (like me!), keep an eye out for Desert Gang Week on May 5 - 11. They'll be most active on twt but they also have a blog here! @desertgangweek
#my art#genshin impact#alhaitham#dehya#candace#cyno#kandake#genshin candace#al haitham#desert gang#sumeru#genshin npc#genshin#i hesitated including dehya since her historical namesake fought against a muslim invasion. i took care not to islamize her for that reason#so character-wise i think genshin dehya would not fast like the others but would be invited to an eid open house at the chief's house yknow

i really should have started some kind of interfaith org when i was in undergrad. i had absolutely zero time for that of course and was busy with class and orchestra and running a completely different club at the same time but. it would've been nice to have i think
#sasha speaks#i wanna talk about me#i think i could've gotten a healthy amount of engagement from well meaning curious catholics#and possibly/hopefully even attracting some of the non catholic students scattered around campus to commune with too#we have small but decent muslim and hindu populations what with the international students too. very few jews#but i feel like at some point being a religious Other at such an overwhelmingly catholic school invites community. if there's a space for i#but i think the saudi student union filled that need for community for most of the muslim students who were primarily saudi anyway#and. well most of the hindu students were in engineering. so they all had classes together anyway#oh well#if no one else got me my very nice very catholic boss got me amen#(practically refuses to let me work the xmas dinner; events coinciding with passover; or even show up on the HHDs lol)

You know, now that my dad knows about... all of this (as in, my religious views and community), I have yet another person to infodump to about judaism. This is great because I don't have many people at all who have the privilege of me speaking about everything from kosher to purim to hair coverings after marriage to views about g-d to traditional differences all in the span of twenty minutes (which then turns into an hour and a half)
#jumblr#jewish conversion#jew by choice#personal thoughts tag#i invited him to a shabbos service one of these weeks so maybe he'll take me up on that#it would be great seeing as how he's been to so many churches and the kuwaiti grand mosque before#(which he said the muslims there gave him the royalty treatment and i think that was so sweet 😭🩵)#i don't know much about mosques (especially a grand mosque) but i would LOVE to visit one#i love islamic architecture that's in those mosques#i'm looking at the wiki article for that grand mosque and it's so pretty waaaaaah 😭#i say 'privlege' as a tongue-in-cheek joke btw!!

sorry I'm on one now. Narnia is one of my Big Rant triggers.
but like. I would be lying if I said I didn't love Narnia
(everything except the Horse and His Boy, which a) even as a tiny kid made me uncomfortable with how fucking racist it is (literally there is ONE. ONE. character of colour who isn't evil, selfish, greedy and violent. even when you're 5 and white and don't really understand racism it's like. sorry there are just no nice people in this whole country? and every Narnian is lovely?) and b) is just fucking DULL partly bc of the 2 dimensional racist caricatures populating the world)
but I can't pretend for a second that it isn't specifically built around a Christian theology that's explicitly racist, hierarchical, supremacist, colonialist and The Bits I Like Least Of Anglicanism
and my FAVOURITE books in the series (except the Silver Chair which tbh is WAY less theological and way more mythology-nerd) are the first and last, which are by far the most explicitly Christian. even more so than TLTWATW.
and I can just about stand by the Magician's Nephew bc it's mostly just a mix of Christian creation myth and CS Lewis's sci fi interests in the esoteric and multiverses and it honestly feels fine. but my all time favourite most iconic Narnia book is The Last Battle and I just. cannot. justify it for a second from a political or philosophical standpoint.
it's got it all bc it's the book where Lewis is like ok hold up let me lay out explicitly what my theology is. and what he thinks it's important to say is:
Almost all Muslims are bad and evil
They worship Satan by doing Bad Evil Deeds to please him
There are a couple of Good Muslims who do good deeds. they need to be brought to the light, understand that the voice calling them to do good deeds is the Christian god, and they too can achieve the kingdom of heaven
Some people will use Christianity as a mask for exploitation and mistreatment. They are bad and their faith is false (ok fine)
...and they're doing that because they're CONSPIRING WITH THE EVIL MUSLIMS TO OPPRESS GOOD CHRISTIANS
...and THAT'S THE ONLY REASON ANYONE WOULD TELL YOU THAT GOD AND ALLAH ARE DIFFERENT NAMES FOR THE SAME GOD. because they're either conning you or because they've been misled and can't really think for themselves.
DID I MENTION. THAT MUSLIMS ARE EVIL AND TRYING TO BRING DOWN CHRISTIANS.
and other than the GOD AREN'T MUSLIMS JUST THE WORST of it all, he also goes back over to more fully explain several points he's made throughout the series, such as:
white Christian public school kids are the god ordained leaders of the world and attempts to think otherwise are heretical
god places people where they need to be to serve his purpose
free will is largely an illusion - your only choice is faith or chaos, and as a godly person your actions are preordained
the problem is though. he's kind of a really good character writer? and in The Last Battle he pulls out most of his best classics (hi Reepicheep! hi Frank! hi Jill!) and gives us a whole wealth of really fun new characters (Tirian and Jewel, Emeth, Puzzle, Shift, Griffle and Ginger are all just SO FUN) and it's such a solid adventure. for me it's hands down the most FUN Narnia to read and an effective and affecting end to the series.
but like. god its unjustifiably fucked philosophy is baked into every single character and event. it's so hard to ignore. it's my favourite book in the series. it's the book that makes me angriest. it's everything right with Narnia and everything wrong with Narnia. I like it cause it asks me to engage critically with Lewis' philosophy and I hate it cause it requires me to engage critically with Lewis' philosophy.
in conclusion, Narnia is a land of contrasts. also occasionally brownface.
#red said#i love these books. i love the last battle especially.#fuck me they're awful philosophically though#they were probably the first chapter books i read when i was 3 or 4. they are such a big part of my life.#and I've always loved them and i still do. I'm so fond of them.#and part of that is inextricable from the Christianity of them. i think there's something really fun and interesting in the fusion of#christian myth and celtic paganism and classical myth and arthuriana and new age mysticism and sci fi multiverse stuff#like it's not. new to blend those things. but lewis is such a nerd about all of them and he blends them up in a really flavourful way#and also i think like as a kid. the utter claroty with which These Are Metaphors About Theology And Philosophy#really worked for me even though I disagreed with most of it. because it kind of wants to engage with you directly as a child#it is. to me. pretty honest about its intentions. and it digs into some moderately complex ideas for a young audience.#like they're parables not morality plays. the Goddier ones are inviting you to think and engage in a conversation about the ideas#which tbh. not a lot of kid's books did at the time and age i was reading them?#they wanted me to be thinking about the whys and hows of morality. like obviously Lewis SUPER has an opinion on the Right Answers#(i would usually. say we're diametrically opposed on most conclusions but then i was rooting for Jadis' army in LWW)#but idk Lewis's theology is interesting. he's very much pro faith and determinism but he ALSO thinks you should question stuff i think#like. it's often kind of self-contradictory but the books are pretty pro asking questions pushing back straying from the path#as long as you come back#and the last battle particularly is really clear that you're not doing a good job of engaging with faith if you don't think about it#like other than MUSLIMS ARE EVIL AND BAD the main message of the last battle is.#if you don't think critically about faith then someone else will think for you and fuck you over#tirian is our hero bc he has a personal and often uncertain relationship with faith that means he refuses to get swept up in the crowd#puzzle is painted as someone who is too scared of conflict to voice his concerns#he's prepared to believe he's too stupid to have his own questions or relationship with faith and so he becomes a tool of the powerful#because he is told to trust the teachings of the church not his own heart#now. do i think this is philosophically good? generally yes but it also props up the I'M A BOLD TRUTHTELLER AGAINST THE ESTABLISHMENT#reactionary tendency. and it's written by a guy whose Unpopular Truthtelling is partly 'Allah is Satan' so. grains of salt.#buuuuut. it's probably why it resonates a lot with people like me or my mum who as kids often felt constrained or patronised#by the way adults approach obedience and blind faith#like. Lewis is advocating for FAITH. he DOESN'T think that faith should be uncritical or without discomfort

I joined a gym! Since I work evenings, I'm going to go at 6 or 7 am every day. They have a little area where I can dance and warm up, and a lot of machines, and a pool we can use if there isn't a class there. It's super close to my house too.
I'd been able to work out here and there at home, but lately it hadn't been happening at all. I resisted doing this for a long time; I have an irrational fear of spending money on anything unnecessary or that isn't a gift for someone else. That, combined with my shyness, which being screamed at for going on walks in New Jersey in 2020 (from paranoid people across the street no less) wildly exacerbated, made home workouts feel like my only option.
But I finally was able to make the decision to spend money on my fitness and health. Those things ARE necessary, just like food and shelter. It would also be nice to have acquaintances outside of my work and church circles (especially since those have a lot of overlap).
#pers com#personal#they even have a girls-only section#I think they made it because of the growing Muslim population in this city but I still like it#I saw some women in burqa there but most of the women were just in normal clothes#and some women were in the main section too. all the machines in the girl section are pink ^_^#I asked and they do let TIMs use that section which only seems to invite conflict with the burqa ladies#but honestly it doesn't bother me that much as an abstract possibility#now if I see someone male in the locker room I am probably just gonna walk out and not swim there#but I doubt I would quit the gym over it unless there was some sort of incident#I would just not use those facilities from then on and not lie about why#I'm hoping it just doesn't come up because I could not find a gym that would openly exclude such people from women's only areas (obviously)#most gyms in my price range don't have women's only sections at all#so I'll take what I can get and bet that anyone weird isn't likely to come early in the morning like me

If I had a nickel for every time I was approached by a random kid on the internet trying to have a theological debate while not accepting "you don't know me and you're not my Imam shut the fuck up we are not having this conversation" for an answer, I would have two nickels
#maybe one day people will learn that being trans and muslim isn't an invitation to challenge my knowledge of the quran#but alas it seems today is not that day

If you're Muslim, how annoying is this: people talking about some serious, progressive stuff and then stopping mid sentence bc they realise you're Muslim and they think they're offending you? Like two friends of my friend today were talking about an lgbtq+ night event on friday and then stopped and looked at me and I was like??? sis I want to come too
#it's like when ppl drink in front of you and then they apologise for being drunk#sis it's my choice not to drink but i can assure you I love seeing people wasted and I still have fun#I can also assure you I can be a Muslim and an ally like invite me I'm gonna come with you#or at least like ask me don't stare at me all worried hgfsa

Notice how news media doesn't even fucking blur her face to keep her safe?
Notice how they never unmasked any of the Proud Boys?
#so much shit to unpack:#1) in forcefully unmasking her they might be putting her health at risk if she was an immunocompromised person#2) in forcefully removing her headscarf they might be infringing upon her religious if she is a muslim hijabi woman#(fyi yes muslim hijabi east asians exist)#and 3) in unmasking her publicly on camera they are literally inviting harm upon her in the form of doxxing and blacklisting#by people are against Palestinian liberation#free palestine#anti cop#acab#doxxing

Islam Dawah Jihad
Daw'ah Means Invitation

What is Islam teaching on jihad?
Within Islam, there are two basic theological understandings of the word: The “Greater Jihad” is the struggle against the lower self – the struggle to purify one's heart, do good, avoid evil and make oneself a better person. The “Lesser Jihad” is an outward struggle.
Dawah in The Way Of Allah Meaning
Definition. Da'wah (also transliterated da'wa) literally means “issuing a summons,” “invitation,” or “call” in Arabic and refers to the preaching of Islam and the exhortation to submit to Allah. It can also refer to proselytizing and preaching to non-Muslims in particular
In The Way of Allah
It includes all the activities of a believer that are in accordance with the laws of Allah (The True God). When a Muslim performs all the activities of his life in the way of Allah, and for the pleasure of Allah, then all his deeds become 'ibadah or worship.
Jihad in Qur’an
The importance of jihad is rooted in the Quran's command to “struggle or exert” (the literal meaning of the word jihad) oneself in the path of God. The Quranic teachings have been of essential significance to Muslim self- understanding, piety, mobilization, expansion and defense.
Is jihad mentioned in the Quran?
Quran. Jihad is mentioned in four places in the Qur'an as a noun, while its derived verb is used in twenty-four places. Mujahid, the active participle meaning "jihadist", is mentioned in two verses.
What are the Hadith related to jihad?
Narrated 'Urwa Al-Bariqi: The Prophet said, "Good will remain (as a permanent quality) in the foreheads of horses (for Jihad) till the Day of Resurrection, for they bring about either a reward (in the Hereafter) or booty (in this world."
Concept of Jihad in Islam
What is the exact meaning of jihad?
jihad, (Arabic: “struggle” or “effort”) also spelled jehad, in Islam, a meritorious struggle or effort.
What are the 3 types of jihad in Islam?
Jihad is classified into inner ("greater") jihad, which involves a struggle against one's own base impulses, and external ("lesser") jihad, which is further subdivided into jihad of the pen/tongue (debate or persuasion) and jihad of the sword.
What Quran says about jihad?
The Qur'an on Jihad.
Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities.Allah loveth not aggressors. To those against whom war is made, permission is given (to fight), because they are wronged;- and verily, Allah is most powerful for their aid.
What was Muhammad's (PBUH) jihad?
During Islam's earliest 'Meccan' period, the Prophet Muhammad's message of jihad focused on propagating Islam against a prevailing order more or less characterized by idolatry, paganism, and polytheism.

Surah Asr shows the way to Paradise (Jannah)
Surah al-Asr: Message of Iman, Sabr and Haqq
English Translation
And the English translation of Surah al-Asr by Sahih International:
By Time,
Indeed, mankind is in loss,
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
When man believed in God, and did righteous deeds, he perfected himself. He led himself towards profit, success and welfare. But his duty as a believer is not over. He will also call others to a prosperous, successful life. The emergence of Muslims has been for the benefit of world humanity. His duty is to call others to the truth along with himself.
