look i get why everyone is hating on silas for being a "rat" but really, u guys get why he's so wrapped up in revenge dont u?

he's lost his grandpa, who was shunned by the queen all because he married for love, and then the queen basically cut off all ties with the FitzGeorges and refused to give them any of the benefits of being royalty, so they had to struggle for both money and respect because again- the queen basically said "i dont recognise their marriage, therefore their offsprings/descendants are all ILLEGITMATE." so now they're the laughing stock in English high society. then when silas lost his parents, queen came to pay her respects as basically a publicity stunt so that people wont call her "cold hearted bitch" and went on to tell silas that she'll give him dukedom if he were to make something of himself and "make the crown proud" and from there on, a deep hatered for the royal family name stemmed inside him and he decided that the best way to get revenge would be to drag the royal family's so called "prestigious" name through the mud and what better way to make them a laughing stock by not only fooling the queen into giving the dukedom, but also for him to PUBLICLY REJECT her daughter aka A PRINCESS because he secretly married a commoner, who is also a "A BALLERINA" just like his grandpa did. and he only agreed to a ballet show despite knowing that Y/n does not know ballet at all is so that she will fail so then the queen will even be more embarrassed because then it will basically mean that silas did not marry y/n because she was "so good at ballet" but because of the stigma that followed ballerinas in the 1800s i.e "prostitutes".

Aylin’s life has always revolved around proving herself. There isn't much known about her life before she became a Carrigan other than that she was born in Istanbul, Turkey. Adopted by the Carrigan's when she was turning two years old, it's uncertain as to why she was abandoned, but when she was found wandering around a marketplace, she was taken to a local orphanage when no one came to claim her. Moving to Aurora Bay was more than a culture shock, but thankfully, she was young enough to assimilate and her adoptive parents was veterans when it came to bringing children into their home. While her adopted home life was full of genuine happiness and love, there was always the feeling that Aylin had to be the best at everything she did. Her parents filled her life with activities; swimming, gymnastics and especially ballet; her favorite of them all.

Full of encouragement, her parents enthused that she should continue and enhance her ballet skills and soon she was fast-tracked to be a lead ballerina. And for so many years, this strict life of dance was all she knew. Graduating high school with good enough grades, the plan was to continue on dancing in college. But life never goes according to plan. When practising relentlessly in a pas de deux, Aylin took a spill and it resulted in a severe head injury that required surgery. Her parents, while supportive, decided that maybe she needed a break from ballet while she recovered.

As her recovery progressed, Aylin realised how much time had gone by without her knowing. She had missed proms, dates, boys and parties; all the things that make up a childhood. After a lot of thought, she decided to retire from dancing and study psychology at the USC. Well, it was her freshman year that she met a senior studying business who charmed her so hard that they were married within a year. Aylin had experienced what she thought was love before, but never like this. She was enamoured from the moment they met. And while she knew her parents would never bless their marriage for being so quick, it didn’t matter. He was all she needed now. 

When it came to arrange the wedding, Aylin had her heart set on finding her birth mother and inviting her. She never told anyone in her family, lest they think they weren't enough for her. There was a deep need to understand where she came from. Since she was now over the age of eighteen, she was able to do so. Despite the protests of her soon-to-be husband, Aylin tried her best to find her mother but could only ever find her name. Sabiha Sadik. Those she contacted advised that her mother was no longer alive and this left Aylin heartbroken. When it came time for her to change her name, she decided to add her birth mother's name at the end of her name, instead of taking her new husbands. It caused many arguments between the two, but Aylin held steadfast that she needed to honor where she came from.

After they were married and both graduated, Ari and Aylin moved to Silicon Valley, where her husband was in deep in developing new businesses from the ground up. In Aylin's mind, however, this meant settling down and starting a family. However, her husband received a promotion, one that he refused to turn down even if it required traveling most of the time and leaving no space for kids anytime soon. It took long hours of ‘mature’ discussions before the two finally came to an agreement, one that Aylin wasn’t entirely content with but she was not about to end her marriage over it, otherwise her meticulous ten-year plan would have definitely fallen apart.

When Ari and Aylin returned back to Silicon Valley from Aurora Bay for his work, she thought it was the right choice. She was doing everything she could for her marriage and it looked like it was working. But it all came out on her 30th birthday. The deep dark secret that had haunted their marriage finally came out. Once Aylin had learned of the emotional affair Ari had with his co-worker, she couldn't stay. It was the betrayal, the lying - the thought of denying herself for so long to make a marriage work that was doomed from the start. Without a second thought, Aylin packed her stuff and moved back into the holiday house in her home town.

Happy new year! Are there any life updates and do you have any goals this year?

As for life updates, I am currently switching my path in higher education and I got into my goal institution so 2023 is going to be full of new possibilities. My goals are simple, to remain level headed, get involved in the community, read 30+ books and have fun.

I'm really excited because I signed myself up to communities that would fill my goals. I joined a cooking society, charity organisation, environmental conservation etc. 2023 once again is destined to be full of learning.

I started using Silicon Mix for my hair extensions, I would recommend it to anyone who struggles with extensions that clump up together.

Before the year ended I went on a horrible swimming date with my guy best friend, I hated the water and I might as well have drowned on the spot but I had fun. He's also moving, probably to some place far away. His family is very ultra traditional and strict so even though he's an adult he's most likely going to be dragged to the institution that his forefathers went to. I'm going to miss him.

One of my objectives is to get into the country club in my area, I'm not a fan of sport but it's always better to play in a social area with beautiful manicured scenery.

More on my life, I decided to cut off a whole chunk on people. When I took a break from education and branched out from my usual clique. I met so many wonderful people, my head was literally opened. I met a ballerina who is now my best friend, I got back in contact with 2 of my muslim guy friends and got tours into beautiful mosques and so much more. I feel extremely at peace. It might sound funny but my past circle was founded on similar issues, so of course, most conversations would be about trauma bonding and chasing after men who weren't interested in them. Anyways I take this as a lesson. As much as being around them was at times comfortable, they had not grown from their teen years and it was toxic.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared. 2023 is a 360 from everything I've been working for the past few years. It's new, exciting and all the more terrifying. I'm sure the risk will be worth the reward.

Like okay, 19th century painters, right? If you were gonna go back in time and get a portrait from someone the list is like this:

Renoir: MAYBE. He is a terrible draftsmen and actually the least technically skilled of the impressionists but sometimes he makes people look pretty. Other times he makes them look bruised. 50/50. Best not to go with him.

Manet: solid choice, edgy but not too edgy. Will use nice rich jewel tones. Put him on your list.

Monet: if you want an impressionist he's your guy. Pretty straightforwards. You will look good and there will be tons of sunlight.

Van Gogh: it'll be awesome but you might also be green and yellow. Literally. If you've always wanted to know what you'd look like with unnatural skin colors go for Van Gogh. Don't bother trying to pronounce his name just call him Vincent. Maybe give the poor guy some antidepressants. He's a delicate sad soul but desperately broke so tip him heavily. He will cry having made money on a painting. Also tell him to stop eating yellow paint. Definitely get a portrait from him.

Degas: you'll either be a ballerina or a prostitute. Maybe even both. Somehow there will be diagonal lines in your portrait. Consider it.

Moreau: are you a woman who wants to know what you look like through the eyes of a man who is literally terrified of women??? Then this guy is for you! You may be framed with sperm.

Klimt: like Moreau except with less misogyny and sperm and more gold. Good choice if you want to look like you could kill someone without ruining your #look. Happy to paint Jewish women. You will also be super comfy in his studio wearing big drape-y gown type things. Medium to high chance your portrait will be stolen by nazis. Go for it. You will look great.

Morisot: like a better Renoir. Seriously skip Renoir and have Morisot paint you instead. You will still look sweet and lovely. Consider it.

Gauguin: literally screw Gauguin. He was a pedophile. Your portrait might look nice but he's a gross jerk. If you want stupidly bright colors go get a portrait from Matisse or something at the turn of the century. You'll still have a high chance of being green but at least you don't have to go near a guy who left his wife and children to go prey on 14 year olds. Break his paintings over your knees and laugh at him.

Seurat: your face will be composed of thousands of tiny dots and you'll be used as some greater metaphor in an 80's teen movie and anyone who is colorblind will probably not get your portrait but optical illusions are always cool. Go for it.

Rossetti: ask yourself - do I have red hair? Do I want to sleep with Rossetti? If the answer is yes to both THEN get a Rossetti portrait done.

Cassatt: honestly a great choice for the people of tumblr, Cassatt is also really big on sprawling on couches as a general pose. She will do you a solid and you will laugh about how men usually screw up painting women.

Bouguereau: poor Bouguereau. Time has forgotten him and instead fallen in love with the rebellious impressionists. But in his day, HE was an ARTISTE of the ACADEMY!! He's got technical skill for days and you'll inevitably get a completed piece. You'll get a beautiful portrait it might just seem a little...polished. But hey, that's NOT a bad thing. Gotta respect his need to make money before he went wild with paint. Think about it.

William Merritt Chase: he's not a BAD painter it's just that sometimes he feels a bit like he could be someone else. There's a 40% chance you'll end up wearing a kimono. Maybe pass unless you want less drama than Whistler.

Egon Schiele: listen, no. Don't do it. There's like an 80% chance he will draw you masturbating with a creepy stare and yaoi hands.

Delacroix: sure he might be an orientalist painter and yes that's kind of awful but you gotta hand it to Delacroix: his "harem" women are all actually dressed in clothes and at least you know he can paint a skin color other than litebrite. Could meet a Jewish or Muslim sitter without having a total heart attack probably.

Millais: honestly get your portrait done by Millais solely for the purpose of pissing Charles Dickens off. Do you need any other reason? No.

Turner: he's a landscape artist ya walnut. The people he paints tend to be floating bodies in the water as a critique of slavery. Ask him to paint more social commentary. Maybe pass on as your portrait artist though.

Hiroshige: if you're not Japanese you're gonna be classed as a friggin weeaboo. Sorry those are the rules. But your portrait will be sweet.

Rosa Bonheur: ok like I really only remember her self portraits and cow paintings but she's a lesbian and if you wanna bond over hot ladies this is your woman. Who cares if she paints a cow instead? Not you! Do it.

Goya: pass unless you want to look dark and maybe slightly tortured. Ultimately you'll just be sad he's no Velasquez.

Ingres: the older Bouguereau basically. If you're super into neo-classicism or orientalist painting go for it. Otherwise skip it.

James Abbott McNeill Whistler: okay look - Whistler is a fantastic artist. He's amazing with colors and uses impressionist techniques without just cribbing off of Monet or something. All of his portraits are lovely, and you can't go wrong. Except there's like a 40% chance he'll never finish your portrait or will go broke painting it or will throw a tantrum at some point. He may or may not sleep with your wife. If he asks you if he can retouch a small thing in your house he will do it -- and then promptly continue to repaint everything and try and charge you for it all. If you yell at him he will later break into your house and paint giant gold fighting peacocks on your dining room wall, and then he'll tell you that without his additions to your decor you'd probably die forgotten but NOW people will remember you forever. Your normal interior decorator will see what Whistler has done to *HIS* room and then later be found lying curled up on the floor of his studio covered in gold leaf in the midst of a total breakdown. He will die three years later, never having recovered mentally. Also Whistler will go bankrupt and will paint you as a mean peacock if he owes you a lot of money. So you'll basically get a second portrait for free. Do it.

John Singer Sargent: honestly probably the best American Portrait artist of his era. You'll look amazing and he won't break into your house to paint peacocks or sleep with your wife. Get a Sargent portrait, you will not regret it.

Nisha Ayub (born April 5, 1979) is a Malaysian transgender rights activist. Ayub is the co-founder of the community-run SEED Foundation and transgender grassroots campaign Justice for Sisters and she was awarded the prestigious International Women of Courage Award in 2016.

Nisha Ayub was born in Malacca, Malaysia, on April 5, 1979. She is of mixed maternal Indian, Ceylonese and paternal Malay descent. Nisha has memories of when she was a child and used to wear a “selendang” (shawl) while dancing to Bollywood songs. Nisha was raised by her mother’s Christian family after her father's death when she was six years old. Her mother is a Muslim convert. At nine years old, Nisha participated in a fancy dress competition, as a ballerina wearing a black dress and a wig. At the time, she realized that was the real Nisha.

As a transgender woman, Nisha has faced law enforcement where Islamic sharia laws are enforced. Under a provision of Sharia (Islamic law) a male person is prohibited from dressing or behaving like a woman and appearing in public that way. Violation of this is punishable by a fine of 1,000 ringgit (approximately US$257) and a jail term for period of six months to a year. Sharia law is enforced by the state Islamic religious departments. Under this law, Ayub was imprisoned for three months in 2000. While Nisha was imprisoned in a male prison, the warden and other prisoners sexually assaulted her. Ayub said of her time in the prison: "They asked me to strip naked in front of everyone. They made fun of me, because my body doesn’t conform to what men and women are supposed to be.”

Ayub, through non-governmental organizations, counsels people, provides training to develop professional careers, addresses their health and welfare issues and provides them legal support.

Nisha Ayub was honored with Human Rights Watch's Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism in 2015 for her bold action opposing the Malaysian laws that were detrimental to the interest of people to live in peace without being harmed and oppressed. She also received the International Women of Courage Award in 2016, becoming the first openly transgender woman to receive that award.

In 2016, San Diego declared April 5 to be Nisha Ayub Day in the US city. In the proclamation, San Diego mayor Kevin L. Faulconer said: "Nisha Ayub continues to fight for the equality and protection of all people in her country and beyond its borders."

In 2019, Nisha became the only Malaysian on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) 100 Women of 2019 list. She was recognized by BBC for her work in assisting the local transgender community.

I realized a few years ago that it wasn't that I "can't dance", it's just that I was forcing myself into this fake box of what I believed dancing "should" look like.

But I understand now that dance isn't about that...it's about expression and embodiment and it's beautiful no matter who and no matter how!

Ok, I've been procrastinating this way too long, but: I think Silksong will be heavily inspired in the Silk Road and Asian culture

Disclaimer: I'm not asian nor i know much about these cultures, so I'm likely gonna get a lot of stuff wrong, so please: feel free and encouraged to make corrections and add onto this post

First of all: duh, "silk" routes; it was not just a massive trading route centered around silk, it was also a route of *pilgrimage*, of cultural and religious interchange, one of the core themes of silksong (besides hornet herself, much of the bug's in Pharloom are on a pilgrimage towards the citadel, mainly with silk in hand)

The cast that seems to be in charge seems to be one of heavy religious connotations

While fundamentally different kinds of bells, all this bell presence in Silksong makes me think of Shintoism

There's also the architecture in what we've seen so far, like in that long charcoal section in deep docs, or the shining citadel

Well, Spain had a Muslim period, so Muslim culture still persists in Spain

Furthermore: I've been informed that while Islam has it's origins in what today is Saudi Arabia, Muslim culture is internationally widespread, so calling it an Asian culture is heavily reductionist and potentially harmful to Muslims

However, this dance has different roots on

South Asian history, more specifically Romani:

Castañuelas flamenco likely evolved from the combination of castanets (popularized all over SWANA and the Mediterranean) and traditional dances of Rajasthan's Roman population, who traveled up north Spain and other parts of Europe in the 1400's
