i’ve seen a few people do musician monday and figured what better time to contribute, now that i finally have a keyboard to play on? (honorable mention: lil belly pouch hehe)

warning: i am not a proper musician so don’t come for my finger positions!!!! i know they’re wrong. i knowwww my pinky just kinda floats there bc i never learned the right hand positions. if u wanna learn more about my piano history, read below the cut<3

i’ve always had a fixation with the piano, since elementary school. the first time i played around with one, i was probably about 6-7 when i had a basic little electric keyboard. didn’t do anything fancy, but i was an only child so i used to just listen to my favorite CDs and then try to play the songs. the first song i taught myself was 1000 years by vanessa carlton lmao.

i never really got into lessons and idk why. i don’t know how to read sheet music, i don’t remember what the notes are called, i don’t know what any of the chords or keys are called. playing a piano is more of a puzzle-solving game for me, where i listen to songs that i find beautiful (usually they don’t even have piano in them, just pretty melodies/harmonies) and then i try to find the matching sounds on the piano.

it takes me anywhere from days to weeks to months, depending on how ambitious of a song i’m trying to cover (the wildest one i ever did was Its Not A Fashion Statement It’s A Fucking Deathwish by MCR lmaooo i swear it actually sounds so pretty on the piano tho) and it’s something that i’ll basically just sit there and hyperfixate on until ive worked the whole thing out. ofc that comes with memorizing it too, so usually i can kinda sorta play the song, but i have to practice it a million times until i can play it all the way thru.

i would love to learn how to play the piano like a Real Musician and like, read music and know what everything is called etc. it’s on my bucket list. but there’s just something so fun and peaceful and meditative about just sitting there and sorting it out by ear, it kinda feels like solving a rubik’s cube in a way.

anyway this is just me trying to remember how to play part of a song called severus and stone by radical face. it’s prolly my favorite song of all time bc of the story it tells and the artist himself but i ain’t getting into all that rn. the section of the song i pulled this part from goes like this:

✨Motivational Monday✨

Gooooooooood morning, afternoon, and evening! I hope everyone is feeling fabulous and ready to start the new week out right ✨

This week, we’re gonna focus on self-care. I know what you’re probably thinking: “Of course!” But, it’s not as simple as you may think. As artists, writers, musicians, and humans alike, we can put our minds and bodies through lots of stress without even realizing it.

Do a check in with your body. Here are some questions you can ask yourself:

When was the last time I drank water?

What did I eat today? And when?

When was the last time I took a break from this task?

Is there anything on my body that may be tense? Jaw? Hands? Shoulders?

How fast is my breathing?

How do my eyes feel? Have I been staring at this too long?

Am I worried about something? Is the thing I’m worried about something I can control?

Identifying where on our body feels stress is the first step in correcting the stress. Shoulders tense without realizing? Let them droop. Eyes hurt from staring at a screen? Take a moment to look at something else (pro-tip from my pal @jev-urisk : Take 2 minutes to look at something ~20ft away in intervals of 20 minutes to limit eye strain). Unclench your jaw, slack your fingers, let your face muscles relax. If it helps, do a stretch break. Stretching helps keep the muscles limber and reengages the mind ✨

Take time for yourself this week. This is paramount for your mental and emotional health. No matter who you are or what you do, humans seek comfort activities. Find those, and do them.

ok so this is not terrible things BUT!!! you just reminded me of the first “full song” i ever covered in high school which was three cheers for five years by mayday parade!!!

this song was my gateway drug. i’d just sit for hours sorting out how to play it and it was the first song i ever was able to kinda “cover” from start to finish (even if covering just meant power chords on the left hand and melody/some harmonies on the right lol)

Hello, Lovely People! ✨🌈✨

Happy Monday! It’s the start of the week, and summer is right around the corner. If you are able to, make sure you soak up that natural sunlight and give yourself a boost for the week ✨

Art takes time. Even a prodigy like Mozart had to build up his reputation. Some skills come faster, others may need a bit more time. And that’s okay—as long as you are still enjoying what you’re doing, your art is worth it. You are worth it.

Beethoven had to scrap and rewrite over and over, sometimes writing on the page so hard it tore the score and he had to start over. Dude wrote his 9th Symphony while he was already completely deaf. You know how dedicated this guy was? He chopped off the legs of his piano and put his ear to the body, writing based off of how he remembered each note’s vibrations. He wrote off of vibrations. That is dedication.

He speaks many wise truths, and while battling with his tragic loss of hearing, he still had time to spread kindness. In a letter that Beethoven wrote to Emilie, a young pianist and a fan of Beethoven’s work:

My dear good Emilie, my dear Friend!
