Every creative involved with arcane ever: damn yeah I guess jayvik ended up kinda 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Christian Linke:
#arcane#jayce x viktor#jayvik#the missing linke#you might say#sad how people wanna make things gay#you can’t write a song about close male friendship these days without people calling it gay#just because you made it sound kinda like it could be about men hooking up#or because it’s on an album titled ‘cruisin’#or because you filmed the music video outside a gay club called ‘ramrod’#or because you market your entire band and music career to gay men#JUST FOR THAT#people will call it gay 🙄

Hey Tumblr,
If you’ve got a band, you DJ, or are a music creator of some kind, I want you to try Streetbadge.com for posting content. There’s no algorithms, and most people will only find your content organically via your custom Streetbadge, but it’s a new, more intimate way of sharing your art locally.
I’ll give 10 free badges to anyone regularly playing gigs, and looking to try something new in their marketing efforts. I’m also looking into creating mini-badges for handing out as marketing material in the future, so I may supply those as well, if you’re interested in being part of a use case study.
Anyway, get in touch! Tell me about what you’ve got going on this year, and maybe Streetbadge can help spread the word.
Talk Soon,
TYWEST01

death to record labels. tbh
#when i was little my dad told me that as bands get more popular their music gets worse bc the record labels force them to make more#marketable music instead of what they actually want to make. & i thought surely that will not happen to the bands i like SURELY it wont#BUT IT DID. IT FUCKING DID. EVERYONE SUCKS NOW ALL THE MUSIC SOUNDS THE SAME

I think Church on Ruby Road has finally firmly cemented my opinion that Murray Gold should not have come back.
#so much of the music was just. baffling.#yes the song was awful obviously#but more than being bad. it was unwilling to play within its own genre#there was a band onscreen but aside from percussion the only music we could hear over the singing was very clearly not within the universe#cos theres no way that band has a big sweeping orchestra section#and sooo many moments of quiet subtle emotion had the usual YOU SHOULD BE FEELING SAD NOW music over the top ruining the tone completely#anyway. im kinda hoping russell goes with ncuti and takes his prod team with him having put new life into the marketing and scale#so in three years or so someone NEW can come in and take the momentum built by rtd to bring the show into a new era#dw#dw spoilers#doctor who#doctor who spoilers#rtd crit#i guess

Idk if yall serious about wanting me to start an actual magazine but just know that I'm totally down for it. Apart from being a music fan and an enjoyer of writing, I also happen to be an attention slut and am more than willing to feebly throw myself into the world of journalism for a wee bit of clout
I'll just need some money, a strong team, and a business model... ah shit
#I've always wanted to start a sort of newfangled music magazine seeing as the ones on the market recently are pretty crap#maybe with a focus on underground rock? classic bands? or both?#I have a lot of ideas just no cohesive plan :p

we went to a bigger flea market in the city today, I've never been to this one and it was good! I bought seven records 😌
#that is HUGE. at all the flea markets and second hand shops I've ever been to all the records were 1. very old and 2. very German#which I am not interested in#okay there's a lot of classical music too. but I don't care about that either#but this guy had a lot of good stuff. most of the ones I wanted were super expensive so I didn't get those#but still! really cool. I got a bunch of alan parsons project records. and a couple manfred mann's earth band ones#and the guy asked about my toto shirt 😌😌😌 nice#also bought one more from a very old guy who was really cool#so yeah this was great#personal

kinda sad that most of the bands im crazy about are so distinctly british that they have limited appeal outside the uk and so tend not to tour outside of it either :/
#suede haven't been here since the NINETIES#and they never will :/#i don't think blur's been here anytime noticeably recent either#idk what it is like i guess ive always been a little tired of the dominance of american culture here?#& i was never really raised on our local scene so haven't really found my niche w australian artists#it's not enough for them to be a british band they have to flaunt it in ur face for me to pay attention#like. i just don't like bands that appeal to the american market lol. i feel like it neuters the music#hex.txt

Do not assume that people are seeing you. The more you can clarify, optimize, and engage your fans and strangers with branded marketing and merchandise, the better chance you have of being seen and then heard.

Maybe a controversial opinion that y'all are going to take the wrong way but. Metal is a music genre, not a honorific title. People who say Sleep Token isn't metal might think they're insulting ST but they actually aren't. People who say ST is metal might think they're defending ST but they actually aren't.
"Is ST metal?" is a purely neutral debate. The answer, whatever it is, should only matter to you when you're looking for their discography at the store and you want to know what category they might be in because you have a bus to catch and you don't want to wander around the aisles for half an hour. It says nothing about the band's merits.
I think if we could all agree on that, we wouldn't get mad at each other.
#sleep token#no need to attack me for this obviously#if you want to put your whole heart into an essay explaining why st *needs* to be recognized as metal you do you#i just think that you know#thinking that 'it's not metal' is a bs take that only ignorant and elitist people can have is not helpful#and maybe a little elitist itself?#people argue about this like metal is a medal of honor and it is crucial to determine whether st *deserves* it or not#when really objectively you could call them electro swing and you still wouldn't be disrespecting them#because genres are just ways to classify bands on the market it's not a hierarchy#and no matter what you call st their music is still going to be what it is#so yeah#looks like an epidemic of people-who-disagree-with-me-on-this-are-being-problematic-itis#when and i insist metal isn't some superior genre that requires a stamp of approval#this isn't a rant i respect people who are passionate about this#but i feel like if this genuinely makes you angry or sad questioning the point of this debate might help

If they wait to sell out these dates to announce more shows I'll be fully in the belief that this is just a cash grab and we all fell for marketing
#if there is no new music I'll be completely disillusioned with this band tbh#being intentionally cryptic is a marketing tactic#putting out fewer dates at first is a tactic to drive sales#if this is all for another recreation of the black parade I won't really believe this band has soul anymore

do any of you also think that this peak late 2010s-2020s culture of packaging EVERYTHING into neat little easily consumable boxes of microaesthetics is also seeping into the music industry or am i just thinking too much
#one more time i see an album/artist being described as somethingsomething-core#without any constructive discussion of the piece's themes/craft/sound#i WILL burst a vein#like....... i love when bands and artists have their own unique visuals and aesthetics etc that *complements* the music they make#but these days for a lot of them... it just feels really not organic. more like “how to get viral on tiktok 101”#i mean you can't blame them especially the up and coming ones bcs that's just how music marketing works now#but i miss when artists/bands did not give a fuck

wow thank you so much
#this is aoa's official youtube. it has 20 million views. :')#also this is the performance version of 'ai wo choudai' and like. God the choreo is . ooughw :(#it is So bland. this is one of The Songs Ever to me. and the choreo is giving Nothing.#it's not even... a decent sexy choreo. bcus this is so rooted in the era of kpop girlies either give cute - sexy or badass#yeah i Know it released in 2016 but aoa stayed true to their roots to the end lol. and 2016 was the tide changing anywya.#honestly the trichotemy was pretty bad but i tended to enjoy anything that fell under the 'sexy' label. the BEst bangers came outta that#(exid i lvoe you. sistar i love you. stellar i love you. fiestar i lvoe you. hellovenus i lo)#and. oh i feel terrible saying this. i would rather have the miserable trichotomy than most groups giving#~feminism~ through the lens of misogyny. it's like. Feminism but make it marketable and tell young women this is Fine#also softcore queerbaiting.#like every Knew the trichotemy was misogynist af. i didn't have to read posts saying that blackpink gave women rights#okay actually. wait. people were genuinely saying things like hyuna's red were feminsit anthems weren't they. okay nvm#i think the bar for 'progressive' is so low in kpop that it is in hell. to be honest.#like we have and have had more progressive thigns in music videos and lyrics in mainstream kpop#mostly from soloists or solo work from band members#moonbyul's shutdown is. clearly about having sex with a woman.#brown eyed girls' abracadabra is okay.... YES the angling is steeped in male gaze#but having a clearly wlw relationship in the mv Was iconic for the era. still is mroe brazen than most mvs dare to be.#also that sistar one where they kill a man together and run off being fruity.#one mroe day! that one!#so yknow. shoutout to the actual icons.#loftwinglullaby rambles#kpop

amps were a mistake
#keeping it fun and funky fresh#personal#i'm tired#i didn't realize How Often there would be live music in the town square/on main street#on mondays the city band plays. they aren't amped thank god but they're so loud and it feels like they're sightreading 65% of the time#on thursdays is the farmer's market featuring various local bands. it's usually like. three elderly men playing uhhh#not classic rock but like. hall & oates type stuff.#they're not bad it's just So Much and all you can really hear is *LOUD BASSLINE* and vague yodeling & strumming#and then on i think saturdays one of the restaurants sometimes has live music too#i rly expected to like the amount of live music available! but i was also expecting to be able to close the doors/windows & shut it out
