The Burden of the Scribes
Rick signed ‘Demigod Files’ as “Senior Scribe, Camp Half-Blood.”
This is why.
Info post
Story
"Hey Χείρων (Chiron)," I said. "I was reading 'Demigod Files', and Rick signed it as 'Senior Scribe, Camp Half-Blood'?"
Χείρων put down his pen, sighed and rolled into the Big House. He flicked a switch and I followed him down the ramp that appeared in the floor. Χείρων spoke as he lead me through the basement, past furniture and boxes.
"Jeanie is leaving at the end of the summer, so I may as well introduce you. The scribes are Campers whose duty it is to record our history. Your brother is particularly skilled, hence why he kept doing it after he graduated."
Χείρων flicked a switch, prompting a section of wall to slide away. Fluoro lights buzzed on, revealing shelves upon shelves of boxes, books, scrolls and artifacts.
"Why don't you see what our previous scribes wrote?" Χείρων suggested. "They're enchanted to not be damaged by time, just put them back where you found them."
"Thank you," I breathed. So many stories, so many questions to finally get answered.
"I'll send Jeanie down in an hour." Χείρων wheeled out.
Immediately, I went over to the box labeled '2009', curious as to what missions had occurred before the Battle of Manhattan and opened it. Ignoring the copy of 'The Last Olympian', I removed the top document. It was titled:
Second Titan War
Casualties
Complete list
It was 15 pages long. Every entry had a name, godly parent (or mythic group for the non-demigods), age and the circumstances of their death. The handwriting changed a couple times. There were sections of near-indecipherable text due to shaking hands and falling tears making the ink bleed.
I sat on the ground, document in hand. "Oh gods."

Happy Pride month, Θεία Άρτεμις (Aunty Artemis)!
The Ίρις (Iris) Cabin printed and framed this, then put it in Cabin 8. I wonder how the Hunters will react when they visit next?
Technically Άρτεμις is aro-ace, and we only know of the male lovers of Σελήνη (Selene)

EPIC the Musical & Καλλιόπη (Calliope)
So, my mom's Καλλιόπη (Calliope), the Μούσα (Muse) of Epic Poetry.
Obviously, she'd take an interest in EPIC. Άπόλλων (Apollo) wanted to audition, but she talked him down into letting mortals have a go first - divine skill from your domain is a bit of an unfair advantage, don't you think?
Jay didn't need any help in the creative front, it turns out (seriously, I've asked around and as far as I know he has much divine heritage as the general population). So Μήτερα (Mother) blessed the project to help with the non-creative side of things. Like, scheduling, money, all the logistics-type things. So it can be as good of a final product as possible, his creativity unconfined by practical concerns.

Feast of Spes
In the years since the Second Giant War (i.e. 'Heroes of Olympus'), the relationship between CHB and CJ has improved. Each year, we celebrate not fighting each other on the Feast of Spes (1st of August).
We take turns hosting the common celebration, inviting the other Camp to join us, showing off our facilities, having competitions and generally catching up.
The festival goes over three days, with a day at the start and end for travel.
I'll share a summary of each day and link it here:
Day 1 (07/30) - Arrival
Day 2 (07/31) - Activities Day
Day 3 (08/01) - Kalends of August, Feast of Spes
Day 4 (08/02) - Capture the Flag/War Games
Day 5 (08/03) - Departure

Day 3 (08/01) - Kalends of August, Feast of Spes
During the day, we have more competitions, with the current scores announced at each meal.
For dinner, because it is the Kalends of August, the day of  the Feast of Spes, we have a formal dinner, wearing traditional garb. When CJ is hosting, obviously that means we need to wear togas, and gods help you if you wear someone else's toga, because those stripes mean something.
When we host, meanwhile, we wear ἱμάτιονs (himations), and the way we wear them, as well as what the specific design is, vary between Cabins.
The cthonic Cabins wear their ἱμάτιονs as veils, the Ήφαιστος (Hephaestus) Cabin has the most elaborate pins, and you should see the Άθηνά (Athena) kids' embroidery! The Άρης (Ares) kids armor their cloaks (somehow), and the Kym and Ἀφροδίτη (Aphrodite) Cabins use a lot of pearls and coral.
Seriously, the outfits are gorgeous.

Us demigods don't just have ADHD. Our godly heritage means our brains run differently to neurotypical mortals'. It's most well-known to present as ADHD, but it can also present as autism or a range of other neurodivergent conditions.
And well, what we have to deal with as demigods doesn't make it easier.
Hope this resource helps ppl
truly what is r the main differences like ACTUAL differences not things in common with adhd and autism

Day 2 (07/31) - Activities Day
At breakfast, Chiron and Mr D or the Praetors, respectively, give announcements on the activities available for the morning.
During the first activity session of the day, newbies to the Camp receive tours of the facilities. Cabin Counsellors, Centurions and a couple other people run the tours and are stationed at various locations, to answer questions and make sure things run smoothly. Everyone else has free time, as the adults from New Rome take guard duty for the festival.
We eat lunch together, and hear what competitions are planned for the afternoon. In order to keep things fair, each competition has a judge from each Camp and only the categories of each are known ahead of time. These can include:
- Forging/inventing competitions
- Duels
- Language competitions, such as spelling bees using the other language (Greek demigods spell in Latin, Roman demigods spell in Greek), races to see who can find the equivalent Greek/Latin word for an English word, etc.
At dinner each day, we eat traditional food (Greek food if we're hosting, Roman food if CJ is hosting), while at breakfast and lunch we eat modern food.
Every evening, if we're hosting, we have the Campfire. If the Romans are hosting, we tell stories. Or rather, we offer sacrifices to the Lares and the Lares tell stories.

Day 1 (07/30) - Arrival
At dinner time, the visiting campers arrive and eat with their hosts. The newbies who haven't visited before get sorted into Cabins/Cohorts, with whom they will be participating in the activities.
If we (CHB) are hosting, the Romans go into whichever Cabin is closest to their most recent godly ancestor. Thus, the children and legacies of Aphrodite/Venus go into Cabin 10, as do the children/legacies of the other love deities.
If CJ is hosting, we get sorted into Cohorts, using the method for probatios, i.e. we are spoken for by a full member of the Legion or by a Greek camper who's spent enough time at CJ. The definition of 'enough time' is a bit vague, but the Campers who go to NRU, Jackson Smith (who's got both Greek and Roman godly ancestors) and Yelaina all count as having had enough time. However, the first time we did it, back in 2012, lots were drawn to sort the Greek Campers into Cohorts
After dinner, there's time to unpack and hang out.

The books don't show this, but that's part of why we all speak Ἑλληνική (Ancient Greek) so much - we've only got the one, communal dialect which is a hodge-podge of Greek over the millennia
I think more fics should include lil bits of southern accent coming from characters from the south.
Will, Leo, Hazel and Annabeth all start talking to eachother and suddenly you're hearing four different southern accents coming out
I mean already talked about the big three boys and them all having a partner from the south. But add Frank in there who's not even from the US and they all just starring like :0
Will and Leo with different Texas accents,Leo's probably with the added hispanic accent mixed in
Annabeth' Virginia accent hardly noticed cause she left there when she was pretty young, only to come out with certain words
Hazel's having a New Orleans accent is *slept* on y'all.
Which, also means on the Argo II anytime they were discussing and accents might've go thicker as they spoke faster you had the other four just starring like "mhm-yep-"
But like you also had a new yorker and a Canadian there as well as a guy that was raised by wolves so- accents must've been interesting on that ship XD
(Also-southern Lee Fletcher hc, mainly cause I'm shocked none of the children of Apollo we have a birth place for so far are from around Nashville. Come on, it's literally Music City. )

All About Me
Hey! I've been on Tumblr for a while now, but I've finally gotten around to doing an intro post.
So, my name is Laura Hill, and I'm a daughter of Καλλιόπη (Calliope).
I'm a demigod, but I don't have dyslexia or ADHD (well, maybe on the ADHD or something similar. definitely don't have dyslexia). HOWEVER, I have trouble reading Greek words in the Latin alphabet (like the gods' names), so I'll be putting the words in Greek, and then the English translation in brackets.
I've got 5 beads on my Camp necklace now, I've gone on a quest, and been to Όλυμπος (Olympus), so I can probably answer most of your Riordanverse questions.
I enjoy reading, particularly fantasy and historical fiction, so there'll be the occasional posts about that, as well as my usual Riordanverse posts.
I'm more than happy to answer any questions you have about the Riordanverse (posts about those will be tagged as #musesdaughter explains), clarifying things about canon, how things have changed since, and how things work. However, I probably won't be able to answer all your questions, because I don't know everything. But I can always ask around.
I have a Wattpad acc and an AO3 acc, and I'll link to those whenever I post fics.
Oh, also, you'll probably see me mention someone called Yelaina a lot. She's my best friend, a daughter of Θάνατος (Thanatos), and has been at Camp since she was 3, learning and training and fighting in the background from 'The Titan's Curse' onwards.

That is not the punishment for killing a camper. That's the punishment for maiming! Like, drawing blood that's more than a normal mortal scratch. Not godsdam killing someone!
... I don't actually k what the punishment for killing someone is, we haven't had anyone die at Camp while I've been here (thank the gods? Fates? idk who to thank anymore).
But the punishment for maiming someone, that is a minor wound but not a scratch, is losing desert.
But someone cutting off something, or a deeper wound, is punished by a week of KP (seriously, doing dishes with the Ἅρπυιᾰ (harpies) is not fun), a week of mucking out the stables, and a week of cleaning out the Infirmary.
All highly unpleasant things.
i know it’s been literal months since that episode premiered but i cannot believe clarisse was like “eh i’ll lose my dessert privileges for a while. i’ll live.”
LIKE THAT’S CAMP HALF-BLOOD’S PUNISHMENT FOR FUCKING MURDERING ANOTHER CAMPER???? LOSING YOUR DESSERT PRIVILEGES?????
what do they tell the dead kid’s parents, “we’re so sorry, your child was killed during a game of capture the flag. don’t worry, the camper who killed them lost their dessert privileges.”
honestly what the FUCK 😭

Travis & Connor were the  Έρμης (Hermes) Counsellors after Luke left, and Travis is only a year or two older than Percy... which means the oldest/most experienced  Έρμης (Hermes) Camper after people started leaving was FOURTEEN or FIFTEEN!
The oldest Campers normally are around 18, maybe even 20 if they wait to go to College or come back for the summer
definitely don’t imagine clarisse at the end of tlt going to tell chris that he’d be the new head counselor of hermes cabin after luke’s betrayal only to find nobody at his bunk & see that he too had betrayed them . . . don’t do that.

I was going to say how could I not know this about my own brother, but I can count on my hands the number of times I've met him
Rick Riordan is secretly a horse girl
In each of his book series I've read so far there's been at least one character who is good with horses/has a special bond with a horse.
Percy: Blackjack and other horses
Jason: Tempest
Hazel: Arion
Magnus: Stanley and other horses
Reyna: Scipio, Pegasus, Horse-Friend

*runs to Yelaina's Cabin* YELAINA! Yelaina, Yelaina, Yelaina. Is this what happened?
Okay I might be crazy but I just realized something. So we know that the battle of manhattan was in the middle of August and we know that Hazel arrived at camp Jupiter in September.
Which means that the issues with Thanatos and the doors of death started almost immediately after the battle.
So what I think is that when Hades brought up a bunch of skeletons to fight against the monsters, he inadvertently opened some entrances/exits to the underworld which made it easier for Thanatos to be captured and the doors of death to be chained.

Of those in Cabin 11, only the Unclaimed kids and those who are waiting for their Cabin to be built are allowed to do the inspection.
If it's only the Έρμης (Hermes) kids in the Cabin, they don't do it.
i headcanon that the Stolls are banded from assessing the cabins (to make sure they are clean) because i’m convinced they would steal and hide stuff in other peoples cabins and start mini wars lol
