Not that there were many places to steal off to on a cruise ship, but Clint had thought he would have at least another forty minutes. He loved his children, he really did, but he could and did spend ample amounts of time with them without sitting through the mind-numbing onboard entertainment every single night.

"Yeah, Wanda, course you can," Clint replied. He knew things were rough for her since coming back after the Blip and being thrust suddenly into a battle... and then right into a funeral for Tony. That was enough to give anyone emotional whiplash. "You need anything?" he asked, more to let her know that he was there for her, and not so much that he thought there might be anything specific she would ask for. But if she did need something, well... he'd get that for her too. It was the least he could do.

plane question: something about hawkeyes? (can be about one of them, both of them (or all of them in case there's more than two - I don't assume I know stuff about comics canon anymore), or their relationship?)

apologies for getting around to this *so* late but hawkeyes! love em!

i haven't read very much hawkeye but i'm a proud owner of the matt fraction run of comics and i absolutely adore them. it's so well written/drawn (david aja, cmon) and i'm a huge fan of the clint and kate dynamic. something about the equality of their relationship and how it subverts (even at times inverts) the mentor-mentee relationship. how it lends to such a compelling display of clint's crippling psyche and lack of self-preservation. how kate, knowingly to both, simultaneously condemns and replicates his recklessness. i love her little private investigator sidequest. i love how she figures out on her own that she, like clint, is there to stick up for the little guys. and her fresh realisation contrasts clint, who sinks into mind-numbing routine until he can't. and her realisation revitalises him. god it's so good. they care so much for each other and they're so thoroughly fleshed out individuals. matt fraction is so good for capturing that even if you haven't read any of the other comics before (i hadn't).

mcu hawkeye is very different and the series is very flawed. i think there's potential if they get better writers but (imo) kate and clint in the show lack the same complexity and don't have *as* interesting of a dynamic due to changes in characterisation. they're just fully different people in the show and even though i had fun with the dynamic presented (dad-daughter things just get me, sue me), the equality is simply not there. i think they tried too hard to push the "you've got to trust me" thing until it felt unnatural(?) to me. but yeah, i love them so i'm holding out hope half-heartedly. i kind of have no more faith to give the mcu. love the characters, do not trust the studio.
