I used to always couch my praise for RWBY like "oh, I know it's not good, but I really like it..."

Then I realized I want actually celebrating this series that I love I was just cowering under the threat of ostracization for having the wrong opinion in public. So just to make it clear:

RWBY is awesome! If you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend it!

Obviously, context for the early volumes that it started out as a web series with an almost literally shoestring budget, but every single volume it's grown better and better.

This shit impacted me dearly. Lets say Andrew and I share some demons. I absolutely love the slow way Andrew manages to let his guard fall around Neil, how the trust grows between them, how Neil listens and care for him so much. It makes all the difference.

I don't judge people who nigh-exclusively read fanfiction (writ large), but I admit I do get like, confused by the people who proudly proclaim how they only read different ten thousand different iterations of (functionally) the same characters going through the same few meet-cutes and romcom tropes.

Phenomenon not unique to Umineko but starkly showcased because of it: the difficulty with separating discomfort of a character from analysis, and from judgement of others.

There are so many characters in Umineko that make people uncomfortable - Rosa is one of the first that comes to mind, but Kinzo does as well. They are such well-written, human characters - and also terrible abusers. They are uncomfortable to watch, they are uncomfortable to analyze, because it feels uncomfortable to remember and acknowledge that, yes, the abusers are human too even though they are terrible.

And there are people who will love characters like Rosa because of how well-written she is, just as there are people who will dislike or even hate her because she is uncomfortable, she is abusive. Some people will then go on, as they hate Rosa, to also hate people who enjoy her character, equating their enjoyment of her character to condoning or ignoring her actions.

I've also seen the opposite, wherein people who love a character will be upset that there are people who heavily dislike or hate a character who, while well-written, is abusive and uncomfortable. They may even equate this dislike to a lack of understanding of Umineko (a common way people are attacked for their opinions, and one I'm trying to move away from using).

People should respect that people may enjoy a character they do not, and that does not always reflect on their views regarding real-life treatment of others. They should also respect that people may not enjoy a character they do, and that does not reflect on their understanding of the text. Again, not a problem unique to Umineko fans, but I've noticed it amongst us.

neuvillette’s favourite way to tease wriothesley is by calling him ‘your grace’ specifically outside of a formal setting.

it’s not something that happens often, for one because the two of them are rarely together off work at the same time, and secondly because neuvillette is rarely in a teasing mood, however..

the fact that this is such a rare occurrence makes wriothesley’s reaction as he stutters and struggles to maintain his cool persona all the more enjoyable.

Inducing thoughts

Every morning, I drink my coffee when it's a little too warm and every morning I am disappointed.

Every evening, I drink a carbonated beverage and every evening I am disappointed.

I put a little more spice, sometimes. But no.

I take a little air in and burp it out, perhaps more than normal. But no.

I fake them. I fake them fast. I fake them hard. I fake them soft. I fake them silent. I fake them loud. I fake them muffled.

No.

I let my belches out.

I keep my belches in.

Nope.

I get nervous. I get excited. I laugh. I cry.

I jiggle my belly. I poke under my ribs.

Nothing.

My diaphragm is an impressive being.

My phrenic nerve is sure of its purpose.

My vagus nerve is buried under protection only offering me panic attacks, sneezing from dry bread, and vaso vagal responses from blood as it's expressions of disorder.

My body is assuredly not a fish's body.

My reflex arc for belching is tried and true and never off its mark.

I am stuck with this overly efficient respiratory system.

My disappointment is hilarious.

Maybe one day I'll try sparkling wine again.

But those were not fun days when I couldn't help myself to bury in the lack of care it gave me.

The mornings were the worst.

My only hope is age making things a little less efficient and my diaphragm letting loose a little to offer me some fun.

I think if I found out that my best friend had a daughter who was poked and prodded, abused and raised as a weapon – not a human, not a child, but a WEAPON – because of ME, and that said daughter was also apparently the same person as the woman who I met in another lifetime regeneration who sacrificed herself for ME the future we would have together, it would be a pretty ingenious way of stabbing several knives into my hearts at once and then twisting it for maximum pain and the horrors.

forward!Wooyoung chews through his mouth guards on a regular basis

He is literally constantly chewing on it. He cannot help himself. Whenever the camera pans to him he is chomping away. No one can stop him.

the two players who break the most sticks on a regular basis are defenseman!Yunho and defenseman!San

Yunho usually does it to let some emotions or energy out, or if he feels like the stick is just giving him bad luck. San does it purely on accident because he regularly forgets how strong he is.

goaltender!Mingi changes his mask design every season, with one notable exception

He always gets a crown wrapped around the top of the mask like a halo. This, of course, does absolutely nothing to help the ongoing growth of The Cult of Princess Mingi.

forward!Seonghwa is banned from playing “keepy uppy” soccer before games because he’s too competitive

forward!Seonghwa is also the best backwards skater on the team, looking like almost like a figure skater the way that he moves backwards.

On the opposite end, forward!Hongjoong, despite being captain, cannot skate backwards to save his life.

forward!Wooyoung starts the most scrums and brawls...defenseman!San however, is the one that has to finish them.

forward!Hongjoong is the first one on the team to lose a tooth

While the rest of the team was attempting to score, the puck ricocheted off the crossbar of the goal, and unfortunately caught him right in the mouth. Hongjoong pretends like he’s cool with it and “wears it as a badge of honor” but secretly regularly asks forward!Seonghwa if it looks okay.

forward!Wooyoung has created the most meme'd material from his intermission interviews

The most iconic is when Wooyoung chugged multiple cups of coffee during his intermission interview. Everyone is confused as to how he does not have a heart condition with how much caffeine he drinks on a regular basis.

goal celebrations are the only time where forward!Jongho allows the team to hug him willingly

The only regular exception to this rule is goaltender!Yeosang, who regularly gives Jongho head pats on the bench

speaking of forward!Jongho and affection, the first and only time the rest of the team caught him off guard was after he scored his first goal

He walked into the locker room completely unsuspecting when the rest of the team completely blindsided by a massive group hug. Jongho, completely spooked, he nearly one-punched forward!Wooyoung in the process
