I think it's really interesting how your godly parent determines how people perceive you in CHB. They ostracize and exclude Nico because he's a son of Hades. They worship and admire Percy for being a son of Poseidon. They trust Annabeth because she's a daughter of Athena.

But really, aren't they all just kids who deserve better?

Happy Pi Day! And happy late birthday to @harvscarf/@thedandy-detective Funny how my falling back into love with Gravity Falls almost coincided with your birthday! But hey! It all worked out since I was to fit a thematically appropriate holiday into the piece instead!

As a bonus here's an alt and the clean sketch that somehow became the finished piece in less than a day!

Chase Young, I challenge you to a showdown.

A plain old regular showdown? We haven't had one of those in a long time.

The fact that these three all have a long history together really adds to Dojo's comment.

Dojo sounds like he's being general, but he's referring to Chase and Guan (and Dashi) specifically when he's referencing how long it's been since they're had a regular showdown.

Dojo says it with such a casual smile because it's the first time he's been with his old crew in so long, it feels like Dojo wanted to give more of a running commentary about things.

It has the easy tone of casual small talk, like they used to have back when they were buddies! (In Dojo's recollection, at least.)

And Chase just gives Dojo this pointed glare as a silent "shut up" before he lets anything more specific slip about a connection that Guan and Chase both keep secret.

After all, Dojo notwithstanding, there is an audience that neither of them wants to know about that buried past right now.

An audience which Guan wants to have this renewed awe and belief in him as this worthy hero of legend. Without the complications that would come up with details about this deal being with his former best friend, or the detail that Dojo was the dragon of one of Guan's other's friend before Guan traded him.

And an audience that has a monk Chase already has his eyes on, at this point as someone who will either be an ally or the end of him. Chase would rather that niave little one not get any idea or any dirt on him at this point.

So they both needed Dojo to keep a sock in it. Or an apple, as it were.

Spent my shower this morning thinking about how sad I am that Davrin is the least-romanced companion so I’m going to gush incoherently about him because

GOSH I love Davrin!!!

This is a man who has convinced himself he’s a sword against the darkness. He’s “the bodyguard”, a monster hunter, a gruff all-business type who thinks of himself as not fitting into the culture that raised him

When really deep down he’s a shepherd, a guardian of nature and a DEEPLY caring person who uses professional distance to hide from his fears. His fear of not having a purpose, of not being good enough to raise Assan, of having to discover a future for himself (and with Rook if you romance him)

He’s the companion that calls Rook “the boss”. He pushes everyone’s boundaries and sometimes says rude things (his banters with Lucanis, his one conversation with Neve where he’s testing if Rook is paying attention).

But he’s also the companion that’s looking out for Rook the most. I’m convinced one of the reasons he asks Rook to go out to the forest with him and Assan is so Rook can take a break and just. Breathe in some fresh not-Fade air. See the real sky. He even confirms in his picnic date that he was hoping it would be relaxing for Rook too! He’s trying to shepherd ROOK as much as he is Assan and the halla!

Even when Rook returns from Fade Jail, Davrin’s response to their anxiety and fear with comfort and stability, because he’s ALWAYS looking to take care of people.

And then when you offer him a future with Rook, one he didn’t think would happen because he told himself NOT to fall in love with the boss (but how could he not, he loves the pursuit, the “thrill of the chase” and this time he caught his mark) that future is what he uses to get himself through that last battle. It motivates him and he sounds so soft when he talks about it before you take on Elgar’nan…

His arc is purely reflected in how he talks about Assan. Assan is the symbol of Davrin’s own struggles and also his method of dealing with them- caught between hunter and caretaker, finding a way to balance the two. And his romance emphasizes this by underlining his caring nature even more- he’s a hunter in pursuit but once he catches what he’s after, he’s the heart of a halla.

Just….Davrin!!!!

hazel drawing her friends

she doesn't draw leo's face bc she's drawn that same face before and its very weird for her but she'll draw faraway shots of him steering the ship like an 18th century sea captain

she drew festus too, asleep but still frightening

piper's self conscious about being drawn but hazel loves her and loves how she looks and spends a lot of time trying to capture what makes piper so magnetic

she herself is kind of self conscious about drawing reyna or annabeth but she draws them in each other's clothes - reyna in jorts, annabeth in a toga and cape - and they both think its funny as hell

hazel draws reyna's dogs too. they pose for her and everything.

obviously arion is her top model

she draws frank all the time and it makes him blush. she'll draw frank drinking juice and caption it "frank drinking juice"

she drew frank in a world war one uniform for childhood crush reasons but felt like something was missing so she drew him in a plane that was about to crash and ended up getting super invested in the plane detail so its a very dramatic drawing. frank was like "uuhhh why am i getting shot down?" and she was like "clearly you don't understand art???"

she draws nico and gives him better hair bc she's nice

she also gives him a cool vintage car in some pictures. or a vespa.

she won't do a self-portrait

she draws percy destroying the glacier, like if the son of neptune cover was drawn by a non-professional artist.

she had one drawing of jason based on the day that she met him at camp jupiter. it was not a good day for her bc she was newly resurrected and very scared. it is a very good technical drawing of jason, and he looks powerful and strong, but he has intense eyes with no expression behind them and there is a very unnerving feeling to the drawing itself.

to piper and leo it reminds them a little of when jason had amnesia, but this is a drawing of him before that, which is not quite accurate to how hazel perceived him or to how he really was. its probably hazel's best work but it makes her and everyone a little uncomfortable.
