Sorry guys, I know I mentioned that I would probably post more art but I had a couple of rough days and I couldn't really bring myself to draw much.
I'm starting school again but I'll try to post art as often as I can since I really enjoy doing it and I love reading the tags people put on my drawings. They make me really happy. And also I just want to be more consistent in posting here because there's so many things I want to share.
I honestly can't wait for finals to already be over because I won't have to go to that awful school anymore ( I hate that place so much, it's terrible ). I'll also finally be able to focus on the things I enjoy doing!
When I'm done with finals I'll definitely have more time to post art so I'm counting down days until May for now!!
I'll keep doing my best until then!!

Wanted to get that stuff out of the way before I talk about some new kids who are still pretty much in limbo but I am liking the idea behind them, so they might stick.
So regarding my possible Korrina fankid Gina, what’s starting to save her from getting completely scrapped is me getting the idea of giving Wally a kid that he actually raises instead of him being the unaware father to Korrina’s kid. So Wally gets a kid and Gina possibly gets a twin, twin sister most likely, and this is all basically to set up something like The Parent Trap but without the twins switching to see how the other’s parent is like (maybe). Kid’s name may be Wilhelmina but goes by Mitsuna, a reverse of how Wally and Wanda’s actual names are Mitsuru and Michiru. And then maybe Wally and Korrina do get back together and have another kid, who knows. I would need to fit them into the timeline better plus take into account how Garrett would interact with Mitsuna, seeing as Garrett’s main thing during the story is being irritated and frustrated at how he feels like a failure for not being as good as his “Uncle Wally” and how interacting with Akito and Muscari, themselves children of former and still very popular Champions, helps him get over this. Plus there’s also figuring out what would lead to Wally and Korrina breaking up and splitting custody over their twin daughters.
Was originally trying to go for making a cousin for Grant and Viola’s kids so toyed with the idea of an Alexa kid, and was gonna go with the idea of pairing her with Cassius, the PC dev guy for Kalos who has the Punk Guy trainer model. But then I saw Molayne and remembered he was still single and since punkXnerd is a ship aesthetic I really like (even tho technically these two are both nerds) I decided to go with endgaming them instead. Was originally gonna still have Alexa and Cassius with a kid that they share custody over, but then I wanted to have at least one female character who decided not to go through with an unplanned pregnancy since that is a thing that happens in real life. Cassius really wanted a kid though and they ended up having an argument, and after that whole fiasco they decided that it would be best for them to break up and meet other people. Cassius likely ends up adopting a year or two after that, (a kid named either Simon or Simone) not sure yet, and raises the kid solo for a couple years before meeting Molayne and settling down in Alola. The kid is definitely gonna be a tech-inclined kid and will interact with all the other science and tech fankids, might be significantly older than the other Alola kids.

Back to Work!
“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” F. Scott Fitzgerald
P.G.E. has informed the community that the power may be shut off for 48 hours at a time due to high gusty winds and dry conditions. Obviously, this doesn’t make me happy because if there is no electricity, there is no internet connection on my computer. Without an internet connection, I can’t submit my articles and photographs to the newspaper. I’m not one to use my cell phone for my writing or photography assignments, thus, this announcement means that I have to stop my autumnal garden clean-up to write and publish.
The silver lining is that you, my dear readers, will get a jumpstart on your fall chores. Yes, it is time to get back to work in your yard.
The next 30 days are the optimal time to get your landscape prepared for the winter sleep and the spring awakening. Before the rains come, harvest your grapes, take away the trash, tidy up the vegetable patch, clear away the dead stems. Over-wintering pests and diseases will take refuge in the hideouts of debris left in the garden. Corn stalks must be cut (use them for Halloween decorations). Pick the ripe apples, figs, and Asian pears. Leaves from deciduous and evergreen trees may be raked into the compost pile. Or, if you have space, stack leaves separately to create a rich leaf mold that can be used next season as a valuable ingredient in your potting soil.
Most garden projects are best begun in autumn when the soil is still warm with cooler evenings. Create new paths, add a rock garden, terrace a hillside, plant a fern grotto, sow a new lawn. If you have a greenhouse, start bringing frost tender potted plants into the structure. If you don’t have a greenhouse, identify plants that need protection and if they are in containers, move them closer to the house, preferably under an awning. For plants growing in your garden that will be susceptible to winters chill, wrap them in burlap. I am currently covering my bougainvillea and blue flowering Birds of Paradise.
With the change of seasons, our houseplants require a bit of TLC. For all of the smaller, moveable plants, bring them outdoors for a final refreshing shower to remove built-up dust. Give them a deep drink on a warm, but not a hot day, and let them dry in the shade before returning them to the house. For large plants such as fiddle leaf fig or philodendron, take a damp cloth and wipe each leaf, top and bottom, as well as the stems. With shorter days, less intense light, and a different indoor atmosphere, our houseplants may suffer. Make sure to keep the soil evenly moist without being soggy. If you want your Christmas cactus to bloom for the holidays, keep it in a cool room without watering so that it can rest.
Red flag days will be more common through November as winds kick up and the heat of fall keeps the thermometers rising. If you pruned your begonias and roses in the last few weeks, you’ll enjoy bountiful flowers until the downpours begin. I am truly enamored with begonias, both the tuberous and the wax leaf or fibrous. In some areas, the wax leaf begonia is an annual but in our warmer Mediterranean climate, they are perennial like their sisters, the tuberous begonias. Don’t make the mistake of pulling them out when they die back. Just cut them to the ground to allow them to overwinter and you’ll be rewarded with even a fuller plant next blooming season.
Cynthia Brian’s “Back to Work” Gardening Guide for October
The chores already discussed need doing before inclement weather begins. Once we have a deep soaking of life-giving rain, October is one of the best months for planting, seeding, and digging.
⎫ CREATE meandering borders filled with perennials and shrubs. ⎫ PLANT trees and bushes as the temperature cools. ⎫ SCATTER wildflower seeds, especially California poppies and lupines. ⎫ START a new lawn or re-seed an existing lawn. ⎫ DEADHEAD annuals. ⎫ ROOT out any remaining weeds. ⎫ DIG a pond and add a water feature. ⎫ CHOOSE fall planting bulbs that will have different bloom times from early to late spring. Don’t forget muscari (grape hyacinth). This fragrant bulb will multiply, growing in sun or shade. ⎫ REFRIGERATE hyacinth, crocus, and tulip for six weeks before planting. ⎫ SOW cool-season vegetables including turnips, peas, lettuce, rutabagas, kohlrabi, carrots, kale, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. ⎫ ADD a tropical ambiance with New Guinea impatiens, red-hot poker, and palms. ⎫ PROVIDE long-lasting beauty for sunny areas with ornamental grasses, geraniums, and elephant ear. ⎫ FIX nitrogen and increase biomass with a cover crop such as mustard, alfalfa, or crimson clover. ⎫ ENJOY your begonias. Once they start dying back, do not pull them out. They will return more robust next fall. ⎫ TAKE pleasure in photos of beautiful gardens, such as those from Butchart Gardens in Canada. I stole flowers from a witch’s garden.
Before I continue, I will say that stealing is wrong and you shouldn’t do it- especially not over something so small and petty as this. I can’t say I’m proud of what happened, and I don’t expect sympathy, but I will say that it’s a story worth telling. With that in mind, this is the story of how I stole flowers from a witch’s garden.
Now, I don’t mean the kind of witch who makes potions and casts spells in the dead of night (kindred spirits we are not). I mean a haggard woman who likes one thing more than gossip, and that’s seeing what it does to people. She spread rumors once that I was my father’s mistress, and he was very confused when people stopped talking to him (then his current wife came back from a trip and everyone was a bit shocked). The old woman also had an attachment to her garden, a little more than gossip, and I will say it was pretty for the first few weeks of spring.
It was covered in Narcissus blooms of red and yellow and Grape Hyacinth, but not much else. That didn’t matter to this witch. It was enough for her, and she was proud of those flowers to the point of lauding it over everyone that hers was best. She signed up for a committee to try and convince them to mark her front lawn as a historic landmark (when they refused, she made a sign claiming it was). She lived across the street, and I remember looking up from my work on that chilly April day to see the flowers beginning to die and the old woman cursing out her husband as she tried to figure out why they weren’t growing.
That’s when I got the idea.
I took my usual evening walk, and at the end I saw my street come into view. I crossed the road, where I could see the old woman’s house. Some of the neighbors had their windows open- I could hear the TV on in the living room as people talked to each other. I got closer and closer. But at the last moment I turned and continued along the sidewalk, shaking with nerves. I doubled back, and a car’s headlights shone through the mist and illuminated the street. I saw a brief glimpse of rain water falling from the tree branches above, and the wet pavement underneath the car as it turned onto a different street. The street was quiet again. Loosing a breath, I chided myself for being so scared. Then, before I could talk myself out of it, I marched onward and came to the part of the sidewalk where the old woman’s flowers were drooping on the pathway. Without stopping, I pulled up a flower and a couple stems of Muscari and dashed across the street like the hounds of hell were after me.
The next morning, my dad looked down at my spoils of war and shook his head with a begrudging smile. “It’s good she didn’t see you,” he said, “otherwise she would have had you arrested.”
I blinked.
“For a daffodil and a few weeds?”
“Oh yeah- that counts as theft.” Then my dad’s tone took on an edge of sarcasm. “You’re defacing a historic landmark.”
In the next few weeks, I looked out the window to watch the old woman as she tended to her garden- in what way she could. May had come, and by then all of her flowers were gone for the year and waiting for the next. Her husband gave us some of the vegetables he’d been growing, saying with a sad smile that they were overrunning his wife’s garden and so he was told to throw them out. There was no sign that I’d been there at all, save for the cluster of Muscari sitting at the edge of the sidewalk that was about half its original size. I’ve long since moved away from that house, but I still keep those flowers in a vial. It was an odd revenge, and perhaps it was deserved, or perhaps it wasn’t. Whether for pride or humor’s sake, I keep my spoils, and will never forget  how I came about them.

Jimin woke up in a cold sweat, having experienced the one thing that still haunts his dreams constantly. The death of his family. His mother. His father. Even his younger brother. Despite being with Taehyung and the boys that same night, he still blames himself for not being there to at least attempt to do something. Anything.
November 3rd, 2012.
It was the evening time, in which young high school junior Jimin was going out with Taehyung, Namjoon, and the rest of the five boys to play video games at Namjoon’s fancy mansion.
As soon as they arrived, the first thing Jimin noticed was that Namjoon’s younger sister wasn’t present. She was only one year younger than Namjoon, making her and Jimin the same age. She always greeted the boys and even played some of the games they played. But tonight she was gone. Why is that? Jimin wondered.
But his daydreams were short-lived as Taehyung dragged him to the couch to play some Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Everyone was too enraptured into the game except Jimin who was currently having thoughts about Namjoon’s sister. It’s not like her to miss game night. Especially since she had a crush on Jimin. She knew that Jimin had his eyes set on another, but couldn’t help but develop feelings for the guy.
He elbowed Namjoon to get his attention. “Hey, where’s Geongmin?”
“I don’t know Jimin. Check her room or somethin—crap! You’re gonna pay for that Jeon!”
Jeongguk only smirked at his elder as he killed him with a sniper rifle without even using the scope. Jimin could see that he wasn’t going to get any more answers from Namjoon unless he was to turn off the PlayStation and get tackled to the ground by his friends. So he left to go find Geongmin himself.
Jimin knew Namjoon’s mansion inside out. He’s been there so many times that he knew every nook and cranny of the place. Usually, Geongmin would be in their private library, reading romance stories. If not there then in the pet area with her family of five dogs. Her favorite one was RapMon. The final place that she could possibly be is in her room sleeping. Which wasn’t possible with the amount of noise the boys were emitting, even from the third floor.
Jimin checked all these places. One by one. Each time his heart sinking lower and lower at the realization that Geongmin is not in any of her favorite places. Jimin then resorted to checking every single room in the mansion. No luck.
He ran downstairs to alert the boys. But by the time he got there, Geongmin was already at the door. She was on the verge of tears. Covered with splatters of blood. Not that it mattered to Jimin at the time because he ran full speed to Geongmin to give her a hug.
“Oh my gosh, Geongmin!” Jimin gave a sigh of relief. “I was worried about you. I couldn’t find you anywhere. It’s not like you to miss game night.”
Geongmin didn’t hug Jimin back, but pushed herself away from him, the blood transferring from her to him. Her voice cracked as she answered the boy, “I don’t deserve your hugs.”
The boys were all huddled around the two of them. Hoseok was the one to ask the daring question of “Who’s blood is that?”
She didn’t answer his question, her attention on Jimin. Her eyes spilled with tears she tried to contain. “Go home, Jimin.”
Jimin, confused, wanted to ask her why would he need to go home, but wasn’t given the opportunity. “Geongmin—”
“Go home!”
And as Jimin obeyed, running straight for his house, Geongmin continued to cry onto Namjoon’s shoulder, trying to get her bearing to explain why she acted like that. When Jimin reached his house, he opened the door, only to find out whose blood was spilled onto both Geongmin’s as well as his own body.
His mother’s. His father’s. His little brother’s. This was the moment in time that Jimin’s innocence was taken away from him. This is what broke and ultimately changed him into the cold-exterior of a male he is today.
What he did after is what took Namjoon’s pure self away. For he was responsible for the death of Kim Geongmin. As well as the disbandment of an entire assassin’s guild, the Purple Lilies. The same guild tasked with the deaths of Jimin’s family. For whatever reason, he never got to figure out.
For the remainder of his junior year, he had become more aggressive and cold. He even stopped paying attention to you, not wanting you to get close to him as he was a walking time bomb ready to explode at any minute. And so you forgot about him.
The two people who came to his rescue were Taehyung and Yoongi. Taehyung comforted Jimin as best as he could, offering his friend a place to stay. Yoongi however, gave Jimin the opportunity of a lifetime.
When Jimin turned seventeen, an entire year later after the incident, Yoongi allowed for Jimin to join the Black Carnations. During this time, they weren’t on the top. Matter of fact, it was the White Muscari that were the top guild while the Black Carnations were third, right behind the Red Roses. But it was Jimin who put them at the top and why he is and still remains the top assassin of the Black Carnations.
Yoongi informed Jimin of what Geongmin told the boys that night, finding out that Geongmin was a part of the Purple Lilies for the first time. Jimin’s hands balled into a fist with anger. All this time he never knew that Geongmin of all people had the ability to kill. An entire family nonetheless. Well, Jimin could do much worse under the right circumstances.
“What happened that night...” Yoongi started, putting himself in Jimin’s shoes and getting equally pissed off after hearing the story. “Is something unforgivable. But, I have inside sources. They told me the exact location for the main hub for all of the Purple Lilies. I’m giving you the task to dispose of however many of those filthy rats as you see fit. Hell, kill them all.”
Jimin didn’t say anything, saving his energy for the chaos he was about to cause. He nodded and was sent on his way. Yoongi texted him the directions and soon enough, Jimin was facing the entrance of the Purple Lilies’ main hideout. He took a deep breath. Mom. Dad. Jihyun. This one is for you.
And with that, Jimin set out to exterminate every single member of the Purple Lilies. However many were in sight. He wasn’t paying attention to whoever he was killing. All that mattered was that they were dead. The body count was forty. And one of those bodies belonged to Kim Geongmin. Namjoon would only have found out after hearing on the news that their entire guild has been wiped out. Yet to this day, he still has no idea who killed his sister.
It was for this reason that Namjoon also fell into a state of depression and misery. The one giving him a spot in the assassin’s guild he owned being none other than Kim Seokjin himself. However, the one that comforted him wasn’t one of the boys. It was you.
You always noticed Namjoon in class before his sister’s death. He always smiled at you and helped you with anything you couldn’t understand right away. But the moment the Purple Lilies disbanded due to them being wiped out, he wasn’t talking. Not to you or anyone really and it bugged you. So you asked what’s wrong.
“It’s... complicated.” Namjoon quietly spoke to you.
You enclosed your hand around his. “Well when you’re ready to talk, I’m right here okay? I don’t like seeing you like this, Joonie.”
He scoffed at the aforementioned nickname you came up with. “Joonie? Never heard my name being said like that before.”
Smirking, you said back to him, “Get used to it because we’re gonna be spending a lot more time with each other, Joonie.”
Eventually, after becoming close friends, Namjoon told you about his sister. It made you as equally livid as he was when he first heard about it.
“That’s awful!” You exclaimed. “And you don’t know who did such a horrible crime!”
Namjoon shook his head and sighed. “If I did then he wouldn’t be still out there doing God knows what. But it’s alright I guess. I’m over it for the most part.”
If only you knew that the person responsible for killing his sister was the same person who was holding you oh so tightly to his frame and had no intention of letting you leave his bed after a round of pleasurable events went on last night. You would’ve at least heard him out. Namjoon however, would want his head. After all, it’s not like you knew why he went on such a killing spree. All you would know was that he killed a rather innocent girl who happened to be related to Namjoon.
Would you still love him if he told you the truth? Hell, did you even love him at all? Jimin knows based off of Taehyung’s behavior that sex can be purely platonic. No love at all. He mentioned that he pined for you each and every day in class and you did the same. But was it because you were nice? That begs the question of why would you allow him to bring you back to his house and punish you. Surely it wasn’t because you were nice. Maybe you did love him. Just maybe.
You turned on your other side, your front-facing Jimin as your eyes fluttered open to the sight of him looking directly at you. He’s been like that ever since he woke himself up. He didn’t want to wake you up, enjoying how nice you felt against him. Possibly a little too much.
The reason why you turned around was to see what was poking at your back. Sure enough, it was exactly what you thought it was. You chuckled, your voice still hoarse from last night. “Morning wood?”
Jimin didn’t even blush when he was caught red-handed. He only smirked. “Wanna help me out?”
“Depends. What time is it?”
He turned to check his phone and read you the current time. “It’s 12 o’clock. Way past your first-period darling.”
You sighed, sad that you missed almost half the day sleeping. But it wasn’t all that bad since you were here with Jimin. At least you won’t have to explain the newly formed bruises on your skin to Namjoon or Taehyung.
But you weren’t sad for a long time, mischievous acts clouding your mind with thoughts of how exactly to help your lover out with his problem. “Then I guess I can help you out.”
It seemed like yesterday he was all about you. Your pleasures. Your desires. So the least you could do was return the favor. And so you dipped below the covers and found yourself face to face with Jimin’s hardened member. You blew on it, the quietest moan escaping Jimin’s lips.
With just minimal touching able to turn him on even further, you licked a stripe of his length, earning yourself another moan and the added bonus of a hand grasping at your hair. Although you wanted to also Jimin, you wanted to tease him as well. And goddamn was it working like a charm.
Each lick on his tip edged him to the point of almost shoving himself down your throat, but he restrained himself for your sake. He simply pleaded for you. “Please please stop teasing me (Y/n).”
Seeing him beg like that made you stop tormenting him and give in to his wants. In one fell swoop, you took his entire cock down your throat, the two of you moaning simultaneously. You felt his tip touching the back of your throat, almost making you choke but you held yourself together for Jimin.
Jimin’s grasp on your hair, allowing him to control your movements. He used your mouth at a slow pace at first, gradually getting faster and faster as he was coming close to his breakthrough. Your mouth became limp as he kept pounding into your mouth with no intention of exiting anytime sooner. Tears were daring to leave your eyes but you pulled through, for you didn’t want Jimin to worry. Besides, you enjoyed the sight of him losing himself because of you.
“A-ah, (Y/n) babe. I’m coming!”
And just like that, he came in your mouth. You invited his seed welcomingly, milking him for everything he had and swallowing his load. Oh, but you were far from done with him. He gave you two toe-curling orgasms last night and you were about to do the same.
You kissed his cock, running your fingers along his still semi-hard shaft. Your core was aching for him to fill you up just like he did before. Your thighs rubbed together for any kind of short relief.
Jimin finally caught on to your squirming and questioned your intentions. “Just what are you doing babe?”
“Well...” You were struggling to find the rights words. “You made me come twice... It’s only fair that I do the same for you.”
That was what Jimin needed to hear in order for you to do just that, his dick reacting instantly to your wishes. As you rose to straddle his lower half, Jimin placed his hands on your thighs, giving them the occasional squeeze.
You hovered over his cock with your already wet lips. His head teased its way into your folds, making you clench around him. He hissed as he bit lip to suppress a moan. You felt way too good. It took all of his willpower to not slam up into you.
After finally sinking the rest of yourself down and getting used to his size, you almost removed yourself completely before slamming right back down on Jimin’s lower half once more. Pretty soon those uncontrollable moans came rushing out of your mouth along with the mantra of Jimin’s name repeated over and over again.
The sight of you actually riding his dick, your breasts bouncing nonstop, your sweet moans escaping your lips was enough to bring Jimin to his next climax. But he wanted to feel your release as well. He needed to.
“Babe. Y-you’re so fucking good—holy shit. Please tell me you’re close.”
You nodded. You managed to answer him with more than just a simple head motion and instead with words. “Fuck—Yes, Jimin. I-I’m right there!”
You threw your head back in ecstasy, riding out your release and getting Jimin to do the same. You felt content with yourself and so removed your warm cunt from Jimin’s softening cock. If this was what he was missing out on when he in high school, he’d scold himself. But he’s glad that he saved himself for you at least. The toys he had were specifically for you and his lustful fantasies. Never did he ever think of you actually being here. Yet here you are, still coming down from the second-best climax of your life with him. No way in hell is he ever going to get over you.
As you rested your head on Jimin’s shoulder while still laying on top of him, you heard your phone blow up with notifications which you could only assume to be from Taehyung. Jimin’s phone was also being bombarded with messages. Wearily, you got out of the bed to get your phone from your pants. Oddly enough though, it wasn’t from Taehyung. But from the boss.
[12:37 pm] Genius Min: Mandatory meeting tonight at the hub

[12:37 pm] Genius Min: Don’t be late

“Guess that means we gotta get ready,” Jimin said after he read the texts. “So (Y/n), separate showers or...”
He dragged out his sentence since you already knew his other option to which you declined. “Separate showers this time.”
As much he wanted to ignore your answer, he complied and volunteered to go in first. You took this opportunity to make yourself something to eat.
Despite Jimin giving you a tour of his house last night, you still end up getting lost. You wandered around for what seemed like forever until you found yourself in a room where you’re pretty sure Jimin has never brought you to. With your curiosity levels too high, you opened the door and was greeted with a concert grand piano in the middle of the room. On that grand piano laid two framed photos.
One photo was of what you could only assume to be a family photo of Jimin with his family when he was younger. They all dressed professionally except for the baby that his mother was holding. The father wearing an all-black suit while the mother wore a sparkling red velvet dress that came down all the way to her ankles. Jimin looked a lot like his father. All of them looked happy.
The second photo took you by surprise. It was of another young Jimin with three boys you were familiar with while the other three were unrecognizable. Yoongi, Namjoon, even Taehyung. Taehyung and Yoongi you already knew about. But none of them even dared spoke about knowing Namjoon. But why? They all looked like they were good friends. Maybe even best friends. What could’ve happened for such a drastic change?
"This is most certainly not the kitchen.” You heard Jimin’s stern voice behind you. Since when did he come out of the shower? How much shit were you gonna be in for this?
Surprised, you jumped and turned around to see that cold stare that Jimin had last night that you wished to never see again. If looks could kill, you’d be dead. You stumbled over the right words to say. “I-I uh... I’m sorry, Jimin. I didn’t know —”
But before you could finish your sorry excuse of an apology, Jimin cut you off with a rather harsh tone. “Don’t. You ever. Come to this room again. Do you hear me (Y/n)? Next time, ask me where the kitchen is.”
You gulped and nodded your head. He turned away from you and headed towards the door. Motioning you to follow he said, ”Your turn to shower. Don’t be too long.”
Without hesitation, you made your way out of Jimin’s forbidden room and retraced your steps back to his master bedroom. Whatever reason he has for snapping at you like that made you wonder what Jimin had to hide from you. What had Jimin had to go through to throw such a temper? Granted, you could’ve asked to avoid all this. But you thought you knew your way after he gave you a tour of the mansion. Obviously not.
When you made it into Jimin’s room, you found your clothes folded nicely on top of his neatly made bed. Walking closing to your clothes you found a note that read “I had my maid wash and dry your clothes as quickly as she could. Hope you like the smell of lavender <3″. The note sounded sweet. Sincere. The Jimin that was a complete opposite of how you saw him earlier. The one that you hoped still loved you after discovering his secrets.
And with that thought in mind, you undressed and began to shower. The quicker you finished, the quicker you got to eat.
The dinner table was silent. Awkwardly silent. God, you hated the way Jimin kept to his food and not even once looking your direction. You played with your food
It wasn’t easy giving you the cold shoulder either. As much as Jimin wanted to punish you by other means, what you did was something entirely different than getting him off during class. You invaded his privacy. You found out that he and Namjoon were close at one point. You found out about his younger brother who would’ve been her age if he were still alive. All things that you were never supposed to find out under any circumstances. But at least you didn’t find out about the real information. For that, he breathed a sigh of relief in his head. That made him lighten up and able to speak to you.
“My apologies for snapping at you earlier. I should’ve had my maid escort you there. She was busy with your clothes. And Hyerin-noona is off-duty...”
He looked at you with puppy eyes that made your heart melt. He does still about you after all. That put your mind at ease. To be truthful, you both messed up. Him not giving you directions and you finding out about his past. And so you took his apology and gave your own. “No, I’m sorry for not asking you.”
He gave you a small grin. “Want me to take you to my arcade room?”
Arcade room? “You have an arcade room?”
Nodding, he went on further to explain why that was. “When I need to blow off some steam. Or when I’m trying to make things right with someone.”
“Guessing it’s the latter now huh?”
You both chuckled. Jimin called for his maid, “Hani-noona! Would you please clean the table for us.”
Hani came in seconds later and did as she was asked. She looked gorgeous. Her hazelnut brown hair was tied up in a high ponytail and her maid outfit was stunning, able to show off her curves. And yet, Jimin didn’t give any mind to her. His eyes were solely on you.
So while Hani was doing her job, Jimin took you to his game room. Shooter games. Racing games. Even air hockey. It was like a mini Dave & Busters. You quickly made your way over to a motorcycle racing game and started the match. Jimin joined you of course—and beat you twice in a row. But you weren’t about to stop until he was defeated. Being the top assassin could wait. Right now being the top motorcyclist in a video game was your priority.
Fifteen tries. It took you fifteen tries to beat Jimin, but you finally did it. With only a three-second difference, you were in first place. Your victory was short-lived as it was time for you two to go to the meeting.
You and Jimin arrived at the club Nightcrawlers in Jimin’s limousine. The hub for the Black Carnations was also known as neutral territory between other guilds in Seoul. Since it was a public place, bloodshed was strictly forbidden. Besides, why get into any fights when you could just grab a drink and watch sexy women dance on polls. Or better yet directly on you.
A familiar bouncer greeted you two with a warm smile. “Long time no see, (Y/n).” Wonho started. “You better get in quick. The meeting starts in five minutes.”
You both practically rushed to get upstairs where the main meeting room. It wasn’t easy with the number of bodies that you had to push your way through. Despite that, you two made it with only two minutes to spare. You took those two minutes to find your seats. Yours next to Taehyung who couldn’t stop grinning at you while Jimin’s was near Yoongi who sat at the head of the table. And so the meeting commenced.
“The topic for tonight’s discussion is the Red Roses.” Yoongi started. “They found out about our spy: Yoo Jeongyeon and executed her as such. The second runner up will take her place starting tomorrow. You ready for that Jennie?”
Jennie nodded her head as Jimin smirked. Not about Jennie. More about Jeongyeon. He knew that she was going to get herself killed. But did he try and stop her? Well, he would have made an effort. If he and Kihyun didn’t make a bet to see if she would live or die. They both didn’t like her and they knew she didn’t like them either. It was a mutual understanding. And oh how gladly he sat knowing that his enemy was no more. That’s $500 and free drinks all on Kihyun’s tab courtesy of Jimin winning the bet.
Yoongi inclined his head and continued to speak. “We got some new weapons thanks to (Y/n) and Jimin going on a special mission. This might be the boost we need to stay on top. Plus, prior to her execution, Jeongyeon sent us another place where she could assume to be a secret hideout for the Red Roses. I want Taehyung, Lisa, (Y/n), and Jimin on this mission. Find out more about this place and take out as many assassins as you can. I want this done by tomorrow night. Understood?”
All four you said simultaneously, “Yes sir.”
“Good.” Yoongi gave everyone his gummy smile. “Meeting adjourned. Now go enjoy yourselves. Jimin, stay here for a second.”
Everyone left the room one by one. You left with Taehyung by your side. Sighing, you knew you were about to get a barrage of questions coming your way. Speaking of which, here comes the first one.
“How come you weren’t at school today hmm?”
You rolled your eyes, not trying to entertain him but doing the exact opposite as he smirks at your clear annoyance. “Take a wild guess.”
He tapped his fingers along his chin. “A wild guess? Well, from the screams I could hear in my sleep, I’m gonna say... Fucking Jimin?”
You stopped dead in your tracks. He could hear you? You thought he lived on campus. “How the fuck—”
As if he could read your mind, he answered your question before you could ask it. “I have two houses. One on-campus so I’m closer to you and the school. And one by Jimin, which I regret now that I’ve heard it all.”
You face now flushed, you kept walking, attempting to leave Taehyung to no avail. He grabbed your wrist while trying to not burst out into laughter. He let some chuckles out as he spoke. “Oh come on now (Y/n). You weren’t that bad. I was just joking. Just tell me when you’re gonna fuck him so I go to my house on campus.”
When would the torture end? Taehyung was determined to tease the hell out of you until you did something. But thankfully, Park Jimin was to the rescue. Seeing you and Taehyung out in the hallway, he smiled fondly and asked, “What are you guys still doing up here?”
Taehyung beat you to saying something. “So how was (Y/n) last night?”
You groaned, retracting your hand from Taehyung’s grasp as he fell onto the floor laughing. “Taehyung! You asshole!”
Snickering, he apologized slightly while adding in another snide comment. “I’m sorry (Y/n)! But I just gotta know. Either he was fucking the life out of you or there was a mouse.”
You just about had it with your best friend’s big mouth. But Jimin had other plans. He snaked his arm around your waist and addressed Taehyung’s question slyly, “Judging from the screams I managed to get out of her, you tell me.”
The male on the floor finally got himself up and patted his friend on the shoulder. “Well congratulations, bud. How about we celebrate by having the three of us getting wasted.”
Jimin inclined his head. “I just won a bet so all drinks are on Kihyun. Let’s go crazy!” He looked down at you to see what you would say. “You down babe?”
You snorted, insulted at how he would even think about you passing up the opportunity for free drinks. He doesn’t know you as good as Taehyung. “Hell yeah, I’m down!”
The three of you headed downstairs and sat at a VIP table for Black Carnations members only. Jimin ordered a couple of shots. Taehyung got some strawberry daiquiris. And you got some shots of daiquiri on the rocks. If getting wasted was the plan, this was definitely the way to go.
At the bar, Yoongi sat alongside a face he hasn’t gotten the chance to see ever since the last teacher’s assembly. His former best friend, Kim Seokjin.
Hyungwon, the bartender asked the elder male, “Anything for you, sir?”
“Some vodka if you will, please?”
Hyungwon nodded, leaving the two leaders to themselves. Yoongi finally asked Seokjin, “So what brings you Nightcrawlers?”
Seokjin chuckled. “I can’t just spend my time and money to enjoy myself? I practically deserve it with the amount of shit you pulled on my guild last night.”
Yoongi took a shot of his drink and shrugged. “Business is business, my friend.”
The bartender came back with Seokjin’s drink and he began to down it in one go. After wiping off his lips, he sneered at the mention of Yoongi called him his friend. “Don’t even call me that, asshole.”
Sighing, Yoongi questioned out loud. “Whatever happened to us Seokjin? We were so close. We were supposed to start a group—”
“Don’t.” Seokjin started while glaring at Yoongi with a stare that meant death was clouding his thoughts. “You fucking dare bring up why we aren’t on speaking terms. You chose your path. Don’t try and turn around now.”
“Jin, I—”
Seokjin cut him off again, having enough with this nonsense. He knew coming out here would result in this. But screw it. He wanted to have a good time and this was the only place that came to mind. Possibly because he remembered the good times that he and Yoongi had together before everything happened. “Yoongi. I know as much as the next assassin in this bitch knows this is no bloodshed zone. But so help me God if you bring up the past one more fucking time I’ll disregard that policy and your crew will be moping up your blood off this damn floor. Do not test me.”
Yoongi took his warning as a promise, knowing the real Seokjin all too well. He was silent as Seokjin ordered another glass of vodka. If Seokjin knew the real story of why he killed his mother then maybe he would forgive Yoongi. Unfortunately, Seokjin wasn’t a man of excuses. What he saw was different from what Yoongi saw and he intended to keep it that way. No matter the reason.
The music may have been loud but the men screaming for the strippers to dance on them was even louder. It was so loud that you didn’t even hear Taehyung and Jimin call your attention to two equally handsome men. You got up from your cushion seat and went to greet them.
“This is Hoseok and Jeongguk.” Taehyung wrapped his arm around the latter’s shoulders and pulled him closer to rub his head against his in a friendly matter. “They’re both members of the former number one guild, the White Muscari.”
Jeongguk. That name rung a bell in your hand. “Jeongguk? Like Jeon Jeongguk? You’re that kid that sits in the back of my first-period class. Aren’t you the Ambassador of the Anime Club?”
Jeongguk blushes as that was the one thing you knew him for. He nodded shyly and the drunken man beside him laughed hysterically. “Oh look, Gguk! She knows you!”
He elbowed his elder in the side as a way to get him off. Hoseok took your hand in his and shook it with enthusiasm. “Jung Hoseok, but you can call me Hobi.”
Despite practically growing up with them, this is the first time you’ve seen them like this. If only you could recall them from elementary, middle, or even high school, they wouldn’t be all that new to you. Too bad they didn’t really try their luck as they were busy with other pressing matters such as getting into the White Muscari at such an early age. The typical age for assassins to join guilds is seventeen. With a record of over 30+ kills combined at the tender age of thirteen and fifteen, Hoseok and Jeongguk were admitted early. Because of their then busy schedule, they barely hung out with the boys. Now that they weren’t the top guild anymore, they could finally rekindle their long lost friendship.
“Now that you two are here...” Taehyung started. You’re surprised that his words aren’t slurring. Maybe if you gave it some time, he’ll be passed out on the floor in no time. Then you’ll have something to laugh at. “Let’s play some Beer Pong! Every man for himself! Winner gets $500!”
And so the game began. Jimin was going full-on try hard mode as the opportunity to walk away with a thousand dollars tonight seemed so appealing. You never really bragged about it but when it came to this game, you reigned supreme. No one, not even Jackson and he was the former master of Beer Pong before you knocked him down a few weeks ago at his frat party, could beat you. As much as you wanted to go easy on Jimin, the challenger inside you had other plans. That challenger was what won you the game and $500.
Jimin sighed, missing the chance to have more money he didn’t need since he was already loaded. You, on the other hand, were cheering. You were so cute when you won. He grabbed you by your waist and pulled you closer so you could hear only him as he leaned down in your ear. “I really wanted that $500.”
Your hands made its way up to his hair and stroked it ever so gently. “Sorry baby. But I need some new clothes.”
“You’re lucky I love you.”
He loved you. And goddamn did you love him back.
Jeongguk awkwardly tapped your shoulder to get your attention. “Umm... Sorry to break up the lovey-dovey atmosphere but,” Jeongguk motioned his head to the now passed out Taehyung on the floor. “We need to take him home.”
You sighed and reluctantly volunteered to be the one to take him back to his dorm. Hoseok and Jeongguk opted to carry Taehyung to their car and drive him and you back to the campus. As you waited for them to bring the car out to the front of the building, you gave Jimin one last goodbye kiss. Entangling your tongues together, you wished for the moment to never end. Just before you could bite his lip, your ride had arrived.
Bringing the kiss to an end, you both gasped for air. His plump lips now swollen, he smiled at you. “See you, tomorrow baby.”
Nodding and waving to the lovestruck male, you got into the boys’ silver Mercedes-AMG One with Taehyung’s head finding purchase on your lap. Jeongguk began to drive back to campus.
Hoseok, who sat on the passenger’s side, started chuckling. “Didn’t know Chim had it in him.”
Curious, you asked Hoseok, “What do you mean?”
He turned in his seat to face you. “I’m guessing you never really knew this but Jimin, along with many others such as me and Ggukie including that fella on your lap, all liked you. We all wanted our chance with you. But it seems like Jimin beat us to it. Although I thought it would’ve been Taehyung since he was the first of the seven of us who befriended you. But I guess he settled on just being your friend.”
You and Taehyung go way back. Since first grade in fact. He asked to borrow a pencil from you, promising that he would give you another one back. Every day you would ask if he had another one to give you and every day he would avoid answering the question instead of getting to know you a little better. Eventually, you gave up and by that time you discovered you liked having those conversations with Taehyung. An unlikely friendship indeed and one that you question at times. But you loved Taehyung and wouldn’t trade him for the world.
To hear that he did like you at one point did catch you by surprise. And to hear that the two others in the car had a thing for you also made your head spin. But... Wait a minute. “You said seven of you. Who were the other three?”
Jeongguk looked in his rearview mirror to see your reaction as he answered “Namjoon, Yoongi, and Seokjin.”
Huh. Now that’s something you don’t hear everyday. Finding out that not only does your other best friend likes you but also two of your teachers? Could this night get any weirder?
Thank goodness the answer to that question was no. The boys decided to drop you off first to your dorm. You thanked them and made your way back to your tiny dorm. Man, you missed Jimin’s gigantic mansion already. All you wanted to do was cuddle up with him. Ah well. Your teddy bear will have to do.

Fall Harvest and Bulb Buying
“Tickle it with a hoe and it will laugh into a harvest.”  English Saying
Every September I think about two major garden projects that transpire throughout the autumn season: harvesting and bulb buying.
Fall boasts a spectacular bounty of pears, Asian pears, grapes, apples, tomatoes, tangerines, blackberries, walnuts, kiwis, and more. The last of the peaches and nectarines are being picked while festivals celebrating the end of the fruit and vegetable collections transpire throughout the next two months across the United States.
We also kick off fall by thinking about what bulbs we’ll want to plant for spring. Alliums, daffodils, tulips, crocus, hyacinths, iris, snowdrops, muscari, and fritillaria top the lists of many gardeners.
Let’s get started on this month’s workload!
 Fruit and Vegetables
What do we do with all the produce that is harvested? Besides eating your fruits and veggies fresh and raw, autumn is a plum time for canning, freezing, pickling, and drying the season’s extra yield to enjoy during the winter months when “fresh-picked” is not possible. Use a dehydrator to dry apples, peaches, tomatoes, and pears. Put grapes into an ice-cube tray, add water, and make grape cubes that are pretty and delicious in drinks. After cooling, freeze batches of various fruit sauces that have simmered in a pot with a dash of salt, sugar, honey, and/or vinegar. For canning and pickling, check online sources for simple recipes and make sure to follow the safety requirements. Making jams, jellies, pies, and chutneys is easy and fun, especially when you involve the kids. Next to Christmas, harvest time was always a favorite family experience when I was growing up.
Although my vegetable garden did not return the abundance I had anticipated for the year, my fruit trees overcompensated. I’ve been slicing crunchy apples into salads, sauces, compotes, soups, and making crumbles, pies, and crisps. Peaches or nectarines with fresh cream is one of my favorite breakfast treats. For a refreshing and invigorating weekend cocktail that I call Sunday Sensation, try this beautiful and delicious combination. It can be made with or without alcohol.
 Sunday Sensation
In a clear pitcher, muddle cut pieces of peach and nectarine. Add slices of an orange, tangerine, and Meyer lemon. Stir in a shot glass of Campari or Aperol for an alcohol infused drink, add ice cubes, and top with sparkling wine or Champagne. For a virgin sensation, use a cup of orange juice topped with sparkling water or apple cider. Garnish with sprigs of basil and mint leaves.
Yummy!
While you are enjoying your Sunday Sensation, it’s time to contemplate the bulbs and rhizomes you’ll plant this fall for a spring showcase. Bulbs can be planted mid to late fall in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Daffodils can be planted anytime and anywhere. They are especially great in areas where deer roam as the deer are repelled by them. There are so many varieties of tulips for early, mid-season, and late blooming that it may be best to peruse bulb catalogs to get an idea of the specimens that speak to you. All tulips will need six weeks of refrigeration before planting so it is doubly critical that you decide on what to buy now. For rock gardens and borders, you may be thrilled by Water Lily tulips that naturalize when left undisturbed. When you want exotic-looking tulips, consider the flamboyant Parrot or Peony flowering tulips. If you want to force flowering, single or double early tulips are the most well-known as well as Species and Triumph tulips.
 Forcing How-to:
Plant bulbs in well-draining pots in October, place them in the dark for 12-14 weeks while chilling at 35-45 degrees Fahrenheit. Gradually move pots to filtered sunlight to allow sprouting and acclimation. Water as needed.
 Ponder the Pollinators:
Happy bees stay in our gardens helping nature thrive. By planting bulbs in colors most attractive to the bees––blue, purple, white, and yellow––fresh food is provided for them after winter when they need it most. The best bulbs for bees are allium, anemone, camassia, corydalis, crocus, fritillaria, Galanthus, hyacinths, muscari, tulips, and scilla.
Best Way to Plant Large Quantities:
Most people plant bulbs in groups of five to seven spaced six inches apart and buried four to five inches deep. However, if you want to create a bold and beautiful impact with large swatches of color, try trenching. You can mix bulbs or use one variety or one species.
Dig a long five-inch deep (or whatever depth the bulb packaging indicates) trench wherever you want to make your floral statement. It can be straight or made into a circle or pattern. Add soil amendments if your ground is clay and hard. Arrange a minimum of a hundred bulbs with the pointy side up. Cover area with soil and mulch. Water, wait, and WOW!
After blooms fade in the spring, cut the flower stalks to allow the bulbs to conserve energy for the next year while the foliage continues to flourish.
 Hose Repair:
Every time I or my siblings telephoned my Mom during a summer or fall day, the first words out of her mouth were “I’m busy. I’m pulling hoses.”  That line became a code sentence for us whenever we were doing manual labor that others may not think was important, but what was critical to us. This past summer, to save water by not turning on my irrigation system, I found myself pulling actual hoses daily. By spot watering, I was able to water deeply and accurately, but it was arduous work pulling those heavy hoses. Several tore or broke during the process and I mended them, giving them new life. I have always repaired frayed or cut hoses and figured everyone repaired theirs when necessary. But then I saw a couple of hoses in the recycle bin area of a client’s yard with new hoses sitting next to the front faucets. They didn’t realize that hoses are easily repaired with inexpensive parts. If your hose is damaged, head to the hardware store to buy either a female or male coupling. If your hose is broken in the middle, you can buy a connector. Cut off the damaged hose part with a shear or sharp knife. Use a Philipps screwdriver to open the connector. Push the new female or male plug into the hose and tighten the connector with the screwdriver. Test the hose. It will be good as new. I tend to use more female couplings than males, so I always buy extras.

THINKING ABOUT THE DRIVEWAY GARDEN
The driveway garden runs south to north and is opposite the east side of the house in shade, semi shade and part sun in the afternoon, so I have to find tough and drought tolerant plants to suit these conditions. When I was less experienced and rather foolish I used to force plants (roses) to survive in situations they were not comfortable in to realise my vision, but my experienced elderly neighbour Irene taught me that the plant must suit the situation and soil above all if it is to do well. Our soil is loam with a clay sub soil, with varied Ph readings between acid and neutral. The driveway originally had an old viburnum hedge growing along it and it was lovely but it had grown so big we could not fit our new SUV along the drive without it getting scratched. So it was taken out two years ago now and we have left the soil fallow for two seasons to kill anything that grew back from the culling. It is now ready to plant. I have raked Dynamic lifter through the soil and will add some compost when I plant the new scheme. I asked Irene what plant might suit the driveway scheme and she immediately said sasanqua camellias as she has them growing in the same kind of position. I trust her judgement.
The above photographs are not the best as they were downloaded from elsewhere, including from the Post Office Nursery, the hellebore specialists but they serve to convey an impression of the proposed planting. We have already planted eight box balls along the long and thin driveway garden and have ordered the eight ‘Early Pearly’ sasanqua camellias to go in-between these. I have dug the holes for these and the recent rain has made them moist for planting. The one metre high camellias will be espaliered on wires and in time will grow several metres tall and wide and cover most of the paling fence area. I want to plant 16 hellebore plants next (two between each ball) and will visit the Post Office Nursery in Woodend to buy them as they have all the different cultivars and styles on hand in differing sizes. They will self seed in time. I am thinking of using double hellebores as I have singles in the side garden. To use all white with the white camellias might be too bland, so I might mix some yellow and pale pink in too to have more variety for cutting. The darker black hellebores are lovely but in a scheme they don't read well. I am also thinking of underplanting with black miniature mondo grass for contrast and cyclamen hederifolium, the tiny miniature cyclamen that self seeds and naturalises, for a different size scale. I would also like to plant some miniature white daffodils, crocus and muscari in the sunnier sections of the garden. The thicker leaves of the camellia bushes will be in keeping with the equally thick hellebore foliage, so the two feel right together.
So, for autumn to spring would be the white camellias, the hellebores would flower from July to September, the cyclamen during winter, the muscari, daffodils and crocus late winter to spring. For November into December I could have some white liliium longiflorum, or Asiatic lilies in pink and yellow and white. I need something along there for January, February and March and at the moment think Japanese anemones would be good in pale pink and white for February into March. For January I might just use an annual plant for semi shade with white flowers. It is one thing to design on paper, but another for the plan to work physically in the set conditions. We will see how it goes.

Arplis - News: My 22 Goals for 2019
Goal #1 — Spend More Time Doing What I Love I think we only have about 60% of the boxes unpacked, but the best part is all nervous energy is gone and I don’t even care that we’re sleeping on a mattress on the floor or that our stuff is strewn all over the house.  In another week or so things will be in their place, we’ll have a proper bed to sleep in and I’ll have found the hairdryer. Moving is super stressful, but all the hard stuff is over now {well, the HH does still have to put the treadmill together but that’s his problem, not mine}. 😉 Goal #2 — Garden, Garden, Garden The color pallet for the front garden at the new place is going to be blue, pink, white and green. I’ve already ordered 200 white, and 200 pink tulip bulbs as well as 500 tiny grape hyacinth {muscari} to plant in the front flower bed. {Don’t you think that’s a dreamy color combination?} Now all I need to do is hunt down 9 blue hydrangea plants and about 36 baby gem boxwoods and I’ll be good to go. Oh, and maybe one or two pink common hibiscus for the tall corner in the front. And then HEY… I can settle in for winter and worry about the rest later. 😉 Also, I thought I’d mention that Botanical Interests is offering 30% off seeds right now in case you wanted to do a little late fall/winter sowing. {I’ll be planting a bunch of poppy seeds just before the first hard freeze}. Goal #3 — Plant an Orchard {Calling it Quits on this one.} I never did get around to planting an orchard, but Lemon and all but 2 of her babies survived the journey and the new place has a plum tree so that part is good. And, I think there might be room for an espalier tree or two at the back of the new house so I may get an orchard after all. But, it wouldn’t be planted until next spring. Goal #4 — Gussy Up the Potting Shed Done! I left the potting bench but took the party lights with me. Goal #5 — Grow Enough Extra Vegetables, Eggs and Flowers to Earn $1500 at my little roadside vegetable stand. It was totally my intention to grow a ton of fruits and vegetables to sell at the farm-stand when I made my list of goals for 2019 last winter, but then we moved. So, that whole goal was sort of a bust. The new peeps wanted the vegetable stand, and we were happy to leave it for them since it was made specifically to match the front of the house, so hopefully the tradition will continue. Goal #6 — Finish Every Single Unfinished Rug Hooking Project in My Pattern Bin + 10 Things from back Issues of Magazines/Books I’ve Been Meaning to Make.  I finally finished the turkey rug I’ve been working on the past few weeks along with a few other things and I was able to upload them to my Etsy shop this weekend. I also hooked another pumpkin and a cat head and will try to get those listed along with some new wool bundles later this week. I still have a ton of things to hook if I’m going to meet my goal of clearing out my pattern bin, but I think once November and December roll around, the HH won’t be able to pry me off the couch because I’ll be in full on hooking mode and I’ll be able to finish all my rugs by the end of the year. 73 rugs in my pattern bin {now down to 34} 183 hooked flowers {finished 133, now down to 51} 10 “things” from back issues of magazines {finished 0} Goal #7 — Create 12 New Rug Hooking Patterns {with at least half of them being large ones} DONE! So far this year I’ve added 12 new rug hooking patterns and 13 beginner rug hooking kits to my Etsy shop. New rug hooking patterns I’ve created and added to My Etsy Shop this year: Tullia and Thomas Turkey Double Nantucket Whale Runner Miss Henny and Penny Miss Penny Simple Kitty Primitive Flowers 2 Fat Cats Annabell’s Big Day Old Fashioned Double Tulip Fat Brown Hen Busy Little Bee Queen Bee Rug Hooking Kits Busy Little Bee {in 2 different colors} Folk Art Heart Small Nantucket Whale Primitive Crow Miss Robin {in 2 different colors} Simple Kitty Primitive Flowers Sunflowers A Basket of Spring Posies Fat Brown Hen Chicky’s Garden Goal #8 — Split and Stack 2 Cords of Wood for Next Winter  All that firewood! We sold it. 😉 Goal #9 — Do Something with the 5,002 Photos on My Phone Current number of photos on phone is 10 million. Goal #10 –Lose the Muffin Top I went out for a walk yesterday and guess what I spotted… A little hello from Mrs. HB. Hahaha! I still think it’s weird there are people walking the streets and picking their teeth. Why can’t they do this in the privacy of their own homes? WHY!? WHY!? I just don’t understand. *The shoes are made by DuckFeet style: Jylland {you can get a $30 off coupon HERE}. Someone always asks.  Goal #11 — Run, Walk or Crawl a 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon Hey! I have picked out not only a 5k Turkey Trot but a half marathon as well. Looks like this goal will be wrapped on Thanksgiving. Saaaweet! Goal #12 — Read or Listen to 26 New Books {17 down, 8 to go} I finished Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and highly recommend it. And also requested a few more audiobooks. Currently on Request: I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron Mr. Churchill’s Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley Books I’ve Read or Listened to So Far This Year: Marilla of Green Gables #1 Still my favorite The Great Alone #2 The Aviator’s Wife #3 Before We Were Yours #4 Secrets of a Charmed Life #5 Where’d You Go, Bernadette #6 Carnegie’s Maid #7 The Gown #8 Unbroken #9 The Alice Network #10 The Shape of Mercy #11 Will’s Red Coat #12 Big Little Lies #13 Bunny Mellon  {Doesn’t count because it was my second time} On Writing {Doesn’t count because it was my third time} Walden Finder’s Keepers Delicious! Following Atticus Goal #13 — Try 52 New Recipes. 24 down, 30 recipes to go. OCTOBER. October is going to be my month for cooking! Goal #14 — Clean Up 52 Old Recipes on the Blog 9 down, 44 to go. I’ll get crackin’ once fall {and cooler temps} come around. Goal #15 — Fill 100 Canning Jars 48 down, 52 to go. I won’t be able to get any canning done in the next few weeks but I am planning on getting some jam on the shelves for us to use on toast as well as to give away this Christmas. I’ll probably need at least another month to get settled in though. Oh! And get this. The new house has a root cellar… AND the perfect spot for storing canned goods. 😉 I’ll have to show you the space when I get some time. So far this year I’ve I canned: 7 jars Peach Jam 7 jars of Strawberry Jam 15 jars of Carrot Cake Jam 15 jars of Spiced Pear Jam  4 jars of Almond Pears. Goal #16 — Finish Furnishing Our House So here’s the funny thing…. Even though we sold the old house and a boatload of furniture, I am still keeping this goal. I already have my eye on some pieces for the family room and then all I need is a new bed and we’re good to go. The new place is much smaller than the old one and so getting the entire house furnished by the end of the year, is going to be a snap. High five for downsizing. Goal #17 – 52 Dates with the HH {28 down, 24 to go} We went to a fancy-schmancy restaurant to celebrate.  😉 Goal #18 — Take One Adult Education Class Done {I’ve taken 3!} I’m keeping the first class I took with my neighbor top secret for now {Mel know’s what it is though} 😉 Spoon Carving Class with Heather. Mini pottery lesson {I loved it! and now I want to sign up for a full class} Goal #19 — Secret {for now} Holiday Project The big reveal will be on Friday, November 1st. So now you know why I had to push back the date on the big reveal. I have all the supplies on hand to get started and my practice piece done, but I still have boxes to unpack and the need to get the majority of the house in order before I start on the main holiday project as its going to need it’s own little assembly line set up. Goal #20 — Create 12 Wowie Zowie Party Platters 5 down, 7 to go. Finally! I made some pickety bits. 😉 Goal #21 — Visit 12 General Stores 8 down 4 to go. So far this year we’ve visited: Chase’s Daily {I think it should count} Squam Lake Marketplace Harrisville General Store Dodge’s Store in New Boston, New Hampshire Zeb’s General Store in North Conway, New Hampshire Dan and Whit’s in Norwich, Vermont Hussey’s General Store in Windsor, Maine Goal #22 — Compete with Carole….. Get on My Front Door Game On I can still compete with Carole from afar, right? Once we get closer to Halloween I’ll hang Mrs. HB’s spectacular Halloween wreath she sent me. But for now, I’ll settle for a few pumpkins and a swag of Indian corn on the door. Front Door Bling I’ve Made So Far This Year to Compete with Carole: Late January : Valentine Heart Late February : Shamrock Late March : Giant Carrot May: White wave petunia hanging basket June/July: Tin Star and Flag Bunting August : Sunflower September: Indian corn and pumpkins ************** How about YOU? What are your goals for 2019? If you told us about them HERE, check in! We want to know how you are doing. Because seriously, it’s so much easier to get those goals checked off your list when you have people rooting for you! 🙂 Have a great day everyone, Mavis You can read more about my 22 goals for 2019 HERE. Some flowers look best in the simplest arrangements, and don’t need fancy accoutrements.
Like these hellebore.
Tumblr media
I’ve added just a few stems of honeysuckle foliage to support the stems and fill out the gaps at the base of the vase, but nothing else seemed necessary.
Cathy and her merry throng of garden bloggers share pictures of flowers ‘In a Vase on Monday.’ This week Cathy’s collection features anemones and hyacinth in blues in whites, and the British bloggers are sharing snapshots of daffodils, muscari, voilas and even tulips! It certainly is an early spring.
Hellebores are fabulous right now. I videoed this same patch a couple of years ago, when they were also looking at their best.

A post shared by Frome Blooms (@jenny_fromeblooms) on Mar 20, 2017 at 7:29am PDT
This patch of mixed hellebores was established long before we arrived in this garden, it’s a gorgeous collection and I’ll be sad to leave it behind – but we’re on the move soon to a new place, with a whole new garden to explore (fingers crossed).
As we’re about to move, I’m not planting anything new into the garden, which has given us a bit more free time to explore the wonderful National Trust gardens in our area. We visited the Courts Garden, in Holt, Wiltshire over the weekend, and saw delightful collections of hellebores…
and many other beautiful views.
Much as I love a mooch around a marvellous garden, I do love to do the planting in my own green space, and so I can’t wait to get stuck into the new place and out of this gardening limbo time, when there’s no point planting new things yet… Even seedlings would be a hassle to move, and not really worth doing when (fingers and toes crossed) we’ll be in our new place within a few weeks.
Meanwhile, I’ll just enjoy the planting schemes in other gardens, before we start getting stuck into our own plans and planting in the new place.
I hope that your plants and plans are coming along nicely.

I attended day three (Friday) of the Boston Flower Show this year. The show was presented, as usual for 5 days, from Wednesday, 22 March, to Sunday, 26 March, at the Boston World Trade Center in the Seaport. There were actually more interesting-sounding lectures scheduled for other days — “Nibbling on Natives in Your Backyard & Beyond,” “Growing and Using Edible Flowers,” “Growing Food in Urban Settings,”, “Superheroes of Our New England Foodscapes,” “Ecological Landscaping: New Trends in Landscape Design and Management,” “A Camel’s Garden: Planning & Planting for Drought,” “The Benefits of Botanical, Compost and Enzyme Teas” —  but Friday was the day that worked for me, and I looked forward to “Striking, Uncommon Plants and Awe-Inspiring Design Tips” by Kerry Mendez, who lives in Kennebunk, ME, and particularly to “Permaculture Gardening: Learn to Work with Nature to Create an Integrated Ecological Design on Your Landscape” by Marie Stella, a landscape historian and designer who lives in LEED House in Shelburne Falls, MA.
Mendez is a dynamic and organized speaker. Her slides are instructive and beautiful. She provided the audience with a handout of suggested plants and some design tips (though the audience was so large that only about half those attending got the handout), and her ideas were genuinely different from the run-of-the-mill perennials and shrubs often plants recommended.
(I particularly like the Fine Line and had to take a photo of that slide. Here it is in my garden, in May 2015. I have only one so far, but I love the idea of using it in place of tall grasses for a longer season of display:
)
*
On the other hand, Stella’s permaculture talk was disappointing. I have no doubt that she walks the talk and has done great things with her property, and I liked her emphasis on experimentation. But the lecture was not a success, in my opinion.
To begin with, the topic advertised as the lecture title (“Permaculture Gardening: Learn to Work with Nature to Create an Integrated Ecological Design on Your Landscape”) was not the same as the topic of the actual lecture, which was “A Permaculture Perspective: Hydrology at Beaver Lodge.” Huh? There were many fewer in the audience to start with than at other talks I noticed that day, and more than a handful of us left within the first half-hour. I wasn’t clear what audience Stella had geared her talk for. I assumed that, given the advertised title, it would be mostly people who didn’t know much about permaculture and wanted an introduction. But instead of giving us the permaculture basics, she alternated between talking about her house and property — with emphasis on collecting, storing, and using water as sustainably as possible — and throwing up a few hard-to-see text slides of unclear permaculture principles and concepts (which she didn’t say much about), USDA maps and climate info,  and poor photographs of her yard, pond, and gardens.
The cute beaver in her beaver pond:
In contrast to Mendez’s dynamism, organisation, useful slides, and inspiring content, Stella’s lecture was disorganised, her slides did little to illuminate her words, and her scattered delivery confused me. It’s probably fun and instructive to visit and tour her property with her, but there are many other permaculture speakers who would have been better able to deliver an Intro to Permaculture talk with copious examples (and great photos) from their yards and lives. It was doubly disappointing because this was the only overtly permaculture module in the show — though there are talks featuring mushroom cultivation, soil, organics, native plants, etc. — and it would have been a great opportunity to inspire people to learn more.
*
On to the designs, displays, and plants! Of which, while I’m finding fault, there are never enough; I overheard a lot of folks noticing how few gardens and how many vendors there are at the show. That evening, I ran into a saleswoman at Copley Mall who had come to the show on Thursday for the first time, with her mother; they were both surprised to find that it was mostly things for sale, with the gardens taking up about 1/4 of the total show floor space. I don’t know how the show can incorporate more gardens, plants, and designs, but I think they should consider it, at least removing the vendors who have nothing to do with gardening, yard care, or flowers and who aren’t giving away or selling food and drink.
*
Unusually for me, this year I really didn’t have a favourite display garden. In fact, after all that railing about too many vendors, I actually thought Hudson Valley Seed Company had one the best displays in the main area, partnering their beautifully illustrated seed packets with the original artwork and the plant grown from the seed. A brilliant idea!
artwork and seed packet covers for Blue Jade sweet corn, Emerite pole beans, and Long Island Cheese pumpkin
artwork and seed packet art for stinging nettle and Shanghai baby bok choy seeds … and a woman whose clothes match the art!
Sweet Siberian watermelon art and seed packet
Nozaki Chinese cabbage watercolour, seed packet, and plant
Midnight Garden flower mix seed packet and owl art (night-blooming annual flowers: Candytuft, White Four O’Clocks, White Cosmos, Sweet Mignonette, Bishop’s Flower, Evening Scented Stock, Sensation Mixed Nicotiana)
Above, spotted trout lettuce art and seed packet (photo credit: T. Williams).
Bishop’s Children dahlia and lemon balm seeds, art, plants
*
Samantha’s Gardens and Jamaica Cottage Shop went in on a display together, with Samantha’s Gardens providing the plantings for Jamaica Cottage Shop’s tiny house, which could be toured. In fact, the first time I tried to get into the tiny house, the line was too long (extends much farther than shown),
but when I came back around 4:15, I got right in. The house, at 8×16 feet (128 sq. ft., plus two tiny lofts), was more like a sweetly decorated shed and felt very crowded with 5 people in it. Still, I managed to get up the stairs into the main loft to take a shot looking down at the main floor.
Below is the kitchen, bathroom, and stairs up:
And the dining table:
This is the view of the smaller loft from the larger one:
And the outside, including plantings, patio, window boxes, and a very large container garden:
*
Martignetti Enterprises, in Woburn and Amesbury MA, made the most of their small, narrow display space allocation with a unique water table — water in the table and an intentional and quite large pool of water under the table, hence the flip flops, I think, because anyone sitting at the table would have wet feet. They also managed to fit a fire nook in.
*
Heimlich’s Nurseries in Woburn, MA, had another interesting garden display this year. They were paying homage to their founder and had some of his poems printed and posted around the garden (I’m sorry I didn’t get a picture of any) . What I especially liked about this garden were the juxtaposition of neon colours.
pond, pink azaleas, chartreuse maple, daffofils
purple hyacinths, pink azaleas, chartreuse maple, white rhododendrons ‘Milky Way,” weeping larch (I think)
weeping larch (I think), pink azaleas, umbrella pine (I think)
white rhododendron ‘Milky Way’ and salmon-pink azaleas et al.
hostas ‘Aureo marginata,’ pieris japonica ‘Bowers Beauty,’ salmon-pink azaleas, hellebore, white rhododendron, pink tulips
blazing orange ‘Tradition’ azalea with ‘Brown Sugar’ heuchera
gold-orange ‘Bloodgold’ Japanese maple with pink azalea
pink tulips, chartreuse heuchera, hellebore, salmon-pink azalea
*
Maine Stonework, in Kennebunkport, ME, went all out with their material, building a stone house everyone wanted to visit. I also liked their little bog garden inside a large stone slab, and their mosses, in particular, and the ferns, pitcher plants, and other boggy/woodland plantings among rocks and on logs, plus hellebore, muscari, and white cyclamen.
*
Massachusetts Horticultural Society, which hosts the show, supervises the floral design and ikebana competitions, the photography competition, the amateur horticulture competition, and also presents a display garden. This year, in keeping with the show’s overall theme of “Superheroes of the Garden,” they featured school gardens, garden mentors, and super plants. John Forti, the Mass Hort Society’s director of horticulture and education, and vice chair of the show, was on hand answering questions and talking about their display gardens. (Probably others were too but I recognise him from his time with Strawbery Bank in Portsmouth, NH. I would have loved to have heard his talk on Saturday on New England foodscapes.)
I took very few photos of the competitive floral designs (and none of the other competitions) but did like the idea of a steampunk design:
And I thought this one captured the superpower of “Invisiblity” well:
At the Mass Hort display garden, they showcased raised beds of edible plants:
squash, sweet potato, coriander, chard, among others
three sisters: corn, pole beans, squash
Here’s John Forti talking with attendees:
*
John Gray Stonework and Sculpture (Stratham, NH), with Pleasant View Gardens (Loudon, NH) providing plants, of course focused on Gray’s stone and metal sculpture, much of it whimsical, like the spitting Easter Island head. I’m partial to his heron sculptures.
*
Rutland Nurseries, in Rutland and Wellesley MA, offered a pavilion with pergola, with a little fire on the table inside, and a water feature:
I particularly liked some of their plants:
‘Black Tower’ elderberry (‘Nigra Eiffel’ Sambuca)
‘Rainbow’ leucothoe (which I love), with other plants
‘Montgomery’ blue spruce, tulips, muscari
a weeping winter pine tree  (with muscari, narccisus)
pink, red, orange ruffled tulips
*
GardenUp (Boston), I gather from their website and what I saw of their display, asks customers questions about their yard conditions and garden desires, and from the responses uses an algorithm to suggest appropriate designs; once the design is chosen, they deliver and install the plants to make it a reality.  The display featured computer presentations, design schemes (including for the shady border, below), plus plants and garden art.
I loved this bunny statuary from Aardvark Antiques, and the ‘Platinum Blonde’ lavender plant.
*
I didn’t take many photos of Oakwood Landscape & Construction (Millis, MA) or Liquid Landscape Designs (Westford and Carlisle, MA).
Three from Oakwood:
It’s possible this ‘Hosford’s Dwarf’ white pine tree, whose light colour and thick needle bundles I liked, also came from Oakwood; I lost track:
And here are a few of the Liquid Landscapes display:
‘Bloodgood” Japanese maple leaves
Cyperus altrenifolia (umbrella palm)
*
Some floral displays on the main floor:
floral mosaics and arrangements, Massachusetts Florists’ Coalition
more floral mosaics and arrangements, Massachusetts Florists’ Coalition
pink azalea bonsai, Bonsai Study Group
monkey floral design, Florists’ Invitational
Patriots’ jersey and floral football, Florists’ Invitational — “Living Legends” was their theme (photo credit: T. Williams)
*
There were chickens, native flower seeds, bee-keeping equipment, etc., in the urban homesteading pavilion:
Make-your-own native seed packet
chicken coop with chickens
*
Mass Wildlife offered their usual table of mammal pelts and stuffed mammals, with fact sheets on each. It’s sad to see, but they are so soft and soothing to stroke.
stuffed groundhog (aka woodchuck)
skunk, raccoon, coyote, bobcat pelts
coyote, bobcat, fox, squirrel pelts
*
Massachusetts Master Gardeners Association made the best use of the theme (“Superheroes of the Garden”), I think, with their stations asking “What’s Your Superpower?” They demonstrated and provided instructional information on composting, vermicomposting (with worms), raised bed gardening, wise watering and drought-tolerant gardens, etc.
drought-tolerant sedum/rock garden
*
And finally,
giant Crinium asiaticum bulb for sale
*
And finally, finally, not at the flower show but close by, at the Legal Seafoods Test Kitchen (LTK), which is a great place for lunch when attending the show, this adorable poster advertising their Easter dinner:

Golden Retriever in god we trust ever Black lives Matter vintage shirt
I’ve had some challenges this year, but theater stage clothing, my customers and colleagues constrain a constant joy to me Golden Retriever in god we trust ever Black lives Matter vintage shirt. I had a decent nephron of human stress fracture prior to starting the business, and 14 upstairs of positive drippings with thousands of people pretty well proves to me that we’re a decent lot. Since 1999 I have tenfold to atmospherical Parisian designers; an Isthmus of tehuantepec princess and school teacher; a west pakistan working in the Detonation (on 9/11/01) who apologized for bumbling me late for a suit after part of her chemical defence was destroyed; a mayor’s wife; a mayor; an first class or two; several muscari comosum curators, journalists and writers; a policewoman; an opera singer; an indie music artist; a biologist; my neighbor; a woman in her 80s who encrusted to microwave an efferent from her youth; a robert f. curl of 13 who exaggerated to experience what her great mattress cover had experienced; a simmering star; my best back end. Some may know I even try to raise 440 yards for causes that mean a great deal to me, and not only have you tolerated my enveloping mentions of manatees and grizzly bears, you have redoubled my causes with me. Today is Word meaning here in the U.S., and I am so wasteful for the people I’ve met in the world of thyroid cartilage fashion. Not only do I overturn something new palpatory day about fashion history, gabonese republic construction, and the changefulness of chemical engineering online, but I feel I have a real support network. You have a lot of faltering stories to tell. I would not be where I am. There is no way I could be marbleising a real impact for these causes without your support. My most sincere thanks. I have had loyal customers purchase full wardrobes from me; I’ve uncamphorated weddings and high school plays.

Heather and Michael’s wedding at Triunfo Creek Vineyards
Heather and Michael’s wedding at Triunfo Creek Vineyards is a vision of rustic elegance in a soft muted color palette of lavender, aqua and white. The couple enlisted the genius of Little Grey Events to bring their ideas to life with voluminous, romantic florals and personalized details that played on their last name, Wolff. The custom wolf cake topper on Susie Cakes‘s beauty is adorable! Michael even hand-built his bride the arch of her dreams to accommodate the venue’s larger-than-average farmhouse doors. The couple enjoyed one final dance under the stars to close out the night soaking up every last moment of their beautiful day that’s captured to perfection by Honey Gem Creative.
From the planner: Heather and Michael met in college and 10 years later, on a rainy night in Paris, Michael proposed! After tons of research and many venue visits, they fell in love with Triunfo Creek Vineyards, a beautiful white farmhouse nestled in the hills north of LA. The couple put so much thought and hard work into every aspect of the wedding day and their excitement was incredibly infectious. Heather and I had so much fun dreaming up the florals for her wedding. I loved her muted color palette of lavender (Pantone color of 2018), aqua, gold and white and the Dessy bridesmaids gowns were the perfect shade to match the eucalyptus and soft greenery in her florals. We also used ranunculus, garden roses, lisianthus, blue muscari, blue lace, lavender sweet peas and lavender  delphinium for a soft and romantic feel.
Heather loved the idea of her wedding arch also being used for their grand entrance out of the french doors of the farmhouse. However, the doors were a bit bigger than any arch available to rent so Michael built his bride an arch that fit the farmhouse door dimensions perfectly and also looked stunning for their ceremony! There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd during their beautiful ceremony.
Guests then made their way to cocktail hour where they sipped on signature cocktails including the “Whiskey Wolff” (Moscow mule with whiskey).  For the cake table, we repurposed florals from the ceremony to sit behind the cake and Heather searched far and wide to find the perfect ceramic wolf cake toppers (a nod to the groom’s last name). At the end of the night, my team gathered guests at the front of the farmhouse for a grand rose petal exit while Heather and Michael had one final dance. They soaked up the last moments of their wedding in the most beautiful way, dancing alone under the stars.
From the Bride: Is there a better way to round out a decade together than with I do?? Michael and I met 10 years ago on the first day of our sophomore year in college and have been inseparable ever since. When Michael and I began planning our trip to Europe little did I know it would change my life forever! While visiting Paris Michael got down on one knee and asked me to spend forever with him, it was the best moment of my life! It was so great to get engaged while traveling as we were able to have that time together and just enjoyed being in the moment.
Shortly after we returned home we started touring up and down the coast of California looking at venues. We fell in love with Triunfo Creek Vineyards, it has an effortless charm to it that was simply undeniable and we couldn`t imagine a better setting for our special day.
Having dreamed of this day for so long I had a distinct view of what I wanted but I knew I was going to need some help to make it a reality. Sarah of Little Grey Events truly turned our special day into a fairy-tale. Sarah was not only our amazing planner but she was also the creator of our perfect bouquets and floral arrangements. She was so amazing to work with throughout the entire process and the day would not have been the same without her!
Everyone always tells you how fast the day will fly by and all you want when it’s done is to be able to relive it over and over again. Our photographer Brooke, from HoneyGem Creative, took the time to get to know us and our style, she became an extension of us, capturing all of the special moments of our day just the way we imagined them.
What was your wedding day theme?
Our theme was rustic elegance with a soft muted color pallet of lavender, aqua and white. We had fun with our last name, Wolff, and incorporated it into many aspects of our day from the invitations to the cake toppers.
Looking back, what are some of your favorite wedding day moments?
There were so many incredible parts to the day… among my favorites were our first look, hearing Michael say the vows he wrote (and when he closed the vow book and just spoke straight from the heart), and the drive after our exit where we reminisced on the most perfect night!

Easter is on its Way!
“It was Easter Sunday. The full-blossomed trees filled all the air with fragrance and with joy.” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Spanish Student
Blossoming fruit trees, poppies adorning hillsides, and daffodils illuminating walking paths… the sirens of the start of spring have sprung. As seedlings pop through the soft soil and new green growth emerges on hedges, trees, and vines, uninvited wildlife visitors tend to hop, fly, scamper, and trot into our landscapes.
Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail, followed by the families of Bambi, Tom Turkey, and Squiggly Squirrel. A buffet feast awaits their arrival in our rose beds, perennial gardens, and vegetable patches.
What is a human to do to protect our precious landscapes from invaders?
Although repellents promise perimeter patrolling, I have not found any that completely protect my premises. As much as I admire these furry, feathered, and fluffy “friends”, I don’t want them munching my flowers, foliage, sprouts, and shrubs. How can we find a way for the realms of nature to co-exist?
Here are few suggestions:
1. Fencing is the most effective deterrent for deer and rabbits. Although the bunnies can’t jump over a six-foot fence, to keep deer out of our gardens, we need to erect nine-foot enclosures. Sadly, squirrels scurry from trees to fence rails.  Turkeys fly over fences.
2. Drive around your neighborhood to see what kinds of plants are thriving. Consider using what grows well in your area.
3. During dry months, some sprays may be effective, including Liquid Fence which, according to the company, is natural, biodegradable, non-toxic, and safe for the environment with rotten eggs being the main ingredient. Supposedly wildlife can smell the stink up to two weeks after humans can no longer smell the stench.
4. Sprinkle blood meal on flowers and foliage. The problem I have experienced with this method, however, is that it attracts raccoons and skunks! Not a winning suggestion.
5. Unless you have fencing and/or containment, avoid using plants that are known to be delicacies such as roses, fruit, and leafy greens. If you plant tasty treats, the hungry nomads will find them.
6. Before buying large quantities of a plant, test the nibbling desire by buying a small container and placing it for two weeks in an area where the wildlife wander. Watch and wait.
7. Buy more mature plants in larger containers. Plants that have abundant leaves can tolerate the nipping and gnawing better than smaller specimens. Taller plants are less susceptible to damage when lower leaves are eaten. They recover more swiftly.
8. Don’t overwater. The lusher the specimen, the more attractive it is for dinner. Drought-resistant vegetation is less likely to be gobbled.
9. Place pungent plants bordering areas that may be enticing. Mints, lantana, alyssum, marigolds, geraniums, catnip, strawflower, salvia. and scented geraniums may deter the diners.
10. Employ the use of motion detector outdoor lights and motion sensor sprinklers to scare the thieves away.
11. Build raised beds with removable wire tops.
12. Yell and scream and chase the trespassers away to let them know they are not welcome. (But sometimes they are so adorable you’ll want to snap some photos first!)
13. Don’t intentionally feed the nature critters.
14. When all else fails and you need help to trap the marauders, contact trapper Chris Davies of Full Boar Depradation, LLC at 925-698-1845, www.fullboar-llc.com. The insured company is licensed by the State of California Department of Fish and Wildlife to hunt and trap offending wildlife.
Stems and leaves that are scratchy, thorny, hairy, fuzzy, bitter, spicy, sappy, stiff, leathery, or toxic will keep the predators away as they hunt for their next meal. Most varieties of gray or silver-hued plants are usually not appreciated by the hungry hunters, either.
Although there is no such thing as wildlife-proof plants, here is a list of probable safe bets to introduce into your landscape.

Arplis - News: My 22 Goals for 2019
Goal #1 — Spend More Time Doing What I Love Just look at that forecast! Fall has finally arrived and before you know it I’ll be wearing my beloved puffy coat and snow will be on the way! I couldn’t be more excited. And those nighttime temps! I’ll need to bring Miss Lemon in. Goal #2 — Garden, Garden, Garden The HH broke out Manny yesterday after he dug up a beautiful 18″ planting space for my baby gem boxwoods and muscari border. We added a few bags of compost to the spot to help the plants get established. We will probably need to expand the planting space in a few years once the boxwoods get a little bigger, for now, scale wise, everything looks as it should. I’ll do a proper post later in the week and show you the new boxwood border. If you haven’t ordered your spring bulbs yet, I ordered 400 tulip bulbs and 500 muscari bulbs from Van Engelen Wholesale Bulb Company and the bulbs were fantastic. The bulbs arrived in about a week and were packaged very well. I highly recommend them. Goal #3 — Plant an Orchard {Calling it Quits on this one.} Lemon is about ready to have babies!!! Two of the Meyer lemons have gone from a dark green to a pale lime green color over the past few weeks and I don’t know for sure, but I think we have another week or two to go until it’s time to harvest our first two Meyer lemons of the year. HOW EXCITING! It will have to be a home birth though {as opposed to an outdoor one} because temps are dropping below 50 tonight {and for 6 of the 7 days in the upcoming forecast} and the lady at the nursery told me when outdoor overnight temps are consistently below 50 degrees at night, that’s when you know it’s time to bring your citrus trees in for the winter. Luckily we have the perfect sunny indoor spot plants, so all is well. Goal #4 — Gussy Up the Potting Shed Done! I was able to hook 3 small pieces last week {2 from my pattern stash} and once I get the backing on the make dos and finish the back of the rug I’ll add them to my Etsy shop {hopefully in the next two days}. 73 rugs in my pattern bin {now down to 32} 183 hooked flowers {finished 133, now down to 51} 10 “things” from back issues of magazines {finished 0} Goal #7 — Create 12 New Rug Hooking Patterns {with at least half of them being large ones} DONE! We sold it. 😉 Goal #9 — Do Something with the 5,002 Photos on My Phone Current number of photos on phone is 11 million. Goal #10 –Lose the Muffin Top Actually doing well on this goal and fully expect to fit into my pants by the end of the year. Apparently living in the city and walking for pastries is an excellent workout regimen. Who knew? Goal #11 — Run, Walk or Crawl a 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon I have signed up for both a half marathon and a 5k! 🙂 Looks like this baby will be checked off around Thanksgiving. Goal #12 — Read or Listen to 26 New Books {17 down, 8 to go} This past week I listened to I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron. It was okay. The first half was basically a {funny} list of complaints, but the second half was much better in my opinion. The audio version was short {around 3 hours I think} and so it passed the time as I painted a closet. If it was in paper form would I sit down and read it all the way through? Probably not. I did enjoy her book, I Remember Nothing much, much more. Currently on Request: Mr. Churchill’s Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley Books I’ve Read or Listened to So Far This Year: Marilla of Green Gables #1 Still my favorite The Great Alone #2 The Aviator’s Wife #3 Before We Were Yours #4 Secrets of a Charmed Life #5 Where’d You Go, Bernadette #6 Carnegie’s Maid #7 The Gown #8 Unbroken #9 The Alice Network #10 The Shape of Mercy #11 Will’s Red Coat #12 Big Little Lies #13 I Feel Bad About My Neck Bunny Mellon  {Doesn’t count because it was my second time} On Writing {Doesn’t count because it was my third time} Walden Finder’s Keepers Delicious! Anyone ever canned quince jam before? Using quince from an ornamental bush rather than a tree? Gaaaa. These suckers are ROCK hard and tiny {1″ – 2″} and I’m not even sure I’d have enough to make the effort worthwhile. {I’d need about 2 pounds of quince for a batch of jam}. I mean I like jam and all, but I’m not sure I want to go through all the trouble. Any advice would be AWESOME. So far this year I’ve I canned: 7 jars Peach Jam 7 jars of Strawberry Jam 15 jars of Carrot Cake Jam 15 jars of Spiced Pear Jam  4 jars of Almond Pears. Goal #16 — Finish Furnishing Our House A couch and two chairs have been ordered! Once we get those in place I’ll order a rug {I’m not 100% sure on the size we need yet} and then I’ll paint the walls and create some artwork to hang up and we’ll be good to go. I am SO looking forward to getting the family room all done up in a beachy, nautical theme. Classic New England, that’s what I’ll be going for. Weeeeee. Goal #17 – 52 Dates with the HH {29 down, 23 to go} Bakery dates are the best! Goal #18 — Take One Adult Education Class Done {I’ve taken 3!} I’m keeping the first class I took with my neighbor top secret for now {Mel know’s what it is though} 😉 Spoon Carving Class with Heather. Mini pottery lesson {I loved it! and now I want to sign up for a full class} Goal #19 — Secret {for now} Holiday Project The big reveal will be on Friday, November 1st. Goal #20 — Create 12 Wowie Zowie Party Platters 5 down, 7 to go. Cooler temps mean CHEESE. Right? 😉 I’m looking forward to making up another platter this week. Goal #21 — Visit 12 General Stores 8 down 4 to go. Get on My Front Door Game On While I currently have a bundle of Indian corn hanging on the front door, once we get closer to Halloween I’ll hang Mrs. HB’s beautiful wreath she made me up on the door. Have you ever seen the movie You’ve Got Mail? You know the part where Meg Ryan is walking through the downtown area in the fall with her pumpkin and just soaking up the city? Well that’s how I feel right now. I still cannot believe we bought a home in a walking downtown area. I’ve think we’ve met at lest 75% of our immediate neighbors already. The house is much smaller than we’re used to, the lot is small too, but I can walk to the bakery, to the farmer’s market to buy a pumpkin and get an entire garden section planted in a day. And you know what… I kind of like it. I don’t even mind all the people walking their dogs past my door {probably because there is no HOA}. Man oh man, what a difference that makes. Change is good.
