The Kpop idol who reminds me of an anime character

Introduction

This blog is according to the fans' perception of a famous person based on what they have seen on various reality shows and interviews.

So the anime character I will mention here is~ Hiroto Suwa from Orange

Hiroto Suwa is one of the main protagonist of the anime series who is a classmate of Naho and Kakeru, just like the rest of the main characters (except Kakeru) he too gets letters from his future self who tells him to help and save Kakeru before he meets his fate.

Choi Minho (born 9 December 1991) is a South Korean singer, songwriter, rapper and actor who is a member of the K-pop boy group SHINee which debuted on 2008, as an actor he has starred in various TV series such as To The Beautiful You, Hwarang and many more.

And the K-pop idol this anime character reminds me of is~ Choi Minho

The Similarities

In this section I will explain why Suwa reminds me of Minho

Love for Soccer

In the story we see Suwa as a member of the soccer club and is actually pretty obsessed with the game, he has a wallpaper of a soccer player in his phone, his room is full of posters of soccer players, and he even calls himself the "Messi of Matsumoto". As far as we know Minho, being raised by a football coach (his father) it seems like he too equally loves soccer as we see him often playing that game, even during his currently ongoing mandatory military service.

Slightly gluttonous but does not gain weight

In the anime, Suwa is described as someone who eats a lot, which is evident from time to time such as when he said that his lunch is not enough for him and also when his friends tease him about being such a foodie. Just like Suwa, Minho is described as a foodie too, I remember him in the KBS India tour he was eating a lot. During one of the Japanese tour he was found eating udon backstage. In one of the episodes Suwa mentions that he never gets fat despite eating too much, this reminded me of another episode of a reality show where his teammates expressed jealousy over the fact that he never gains weight despite eating too much.

Loud and slightly embarrassing

Suwa is depicted as a loud, extroverted young man whom sometimes acts in an embarrassing manner, such as when he was trying to convince his classmate Kakeru to join the soccer club, he was making quite a scene in the school corridor, as depicted in the above picture, in a similar manner we have seen Minho being equally loud and embarrassing during concerts and in reality shows which can get kind of funny to watch.

Kind, supportive and selfless

What makes Suwa one of the most likable characters in the anime series is the boundless amount of kindness he possesses, throughout the series he has been very supportive and kind to Naho and Kakeru and tried his best to make Kakeru comfortable, and eventually tried his best to save his life, he didn't care about his own romantic feelings for Naho instead he supported her relationship with Kakeru which shows his selfless nature. He is a supportive friend who comforted Naho whenever she felt down and hopeless. As fans we have seen Minho, he has similar qualities like Suwa, in one such interview (picture above) he told about having a small dream of owning a soccer club so that his father could continue doing his job, in that interview he also told about how he hid his true feelings about being exhausted from training so that his family doesn't worry about him. His teammates describe him as someone who comforts them when they are down. He also told that he wants to be the number one fan of the rest of his teammates.

Similar TV shows

When I had first read the plot of Orange, I was reminded of the plot of a Korean web drama called Somehow 18 which aired back in 2017. I have mentioned this web drama is because Minho played the role of the lead male protagonist here. Both the anime and the web drama are set in a highschool both of them have somewhat similar plot, In Somehow 18 Oh Kyunghwi (played by Minho) goes back in time to save his highschool love interest Han Nabi (played by Lee Yoobi) from dying who blamed herself for the death of her friends in an accident. In Orange, Suwa, Naho and rest of their friends try to save Kakeru from dying and he too blames himself for the death of his own mother. Both Nabi and Kakeru initially die from the same reason, and finally both of the TV shows deals with time traveling.

Conclusion

I had been planning to make this blog for a long time and finally I have made it, though for the last few days I was kind of nervous and slightly embarassed about making this because I was thinking of how it would turn out, I initially had planned to make an anime related thread on SHINee members but I didn't find anyone who is like Taemin and at the same time I didn't want to use any Ouran Highschool Host Club character because that has been done several times so I had decided to choose one member and one anime character.

spoiler warning for the manga orange!

the last manga I read was orange (currently watching the anime). it is such a beautiful story and the entire time I was reading it I was alternating between rooting for the main couple, laughing at the friendship moments, and some sadness over the general struggles of the plot (also some internal raging because DAMMIT NAHO JUST TELL HIM HOW YOU FEEL).

one of my favorite things about this manga, though, is how suwa was genuinely ready to throw away the whole future he had the chance to have because he wanted his friend to live. in the original timeline, he got to marry naho, who he was in love with from the beginning.

this man loved naho, but went out of his way to try to get naho and suwa together because he knew they loved each other and he cared a lot about kakeru. he cared about both of them SO MUCH throughout the series and it’s so blatant in all of his interactions with them.

honestly, I feel suwa is so much better at showing how much he loves his friends than any of the main characters. obviously we know they love each other, but he’s the one who goes out of his way to comfort them, hug them, encourage them, etc. dammit, he’s hugged kakeru more than naho! he was the one who hugged kakeru when he was crying in their classroom.

don’t get me wrong, im not saying at all that he loved kakeru more than naho. it’s a huge thing with her and kakeru’s dynamic that they both are awful at showing how they truly feel and opening up, and that’s one of the beautiful things about this story in my opinion. they both worked hard to be able to tell each other how they feel, as that was one of naho’s biggest regrets.

it was just very noticeable to me that he seemed to be the most helpful and kind friend of the group, and also the most selfless when it comes to his own personal effects to pushing them together.

ugh I just love this boy and his love for his friends. he’s just so genuinely kind and it’s such a beautiful part of this story.
