spoiler warning for the manga orange!

the last manga I read was orange (currently watching the anime). it is such a beautiful story and the entire time I was reading it I was alternating between rooting for the main couple, laughing at the friendship moments, and some sadness over the general struggles of the plot (also some internal raging because DAMMIT NAHO JUST TELL HIM HOW YOU FEEL).

one of my favorite things about this manga, though, is how suwa was genuinely ready to throw away the whole future he had the chance to have because he wanted his friend to live. in the original timeline, he got to marry naho, who he was in love with from the beginning.

this man loved naho, but went out of his way to try to get naho and suwa together because he knew they loved each other and he cared a lot about kakeru. he cared about both of them SO MUCH throughout the series and it’s so blatant in all of his interactions with them.

honestly, I feel suwa is so much better at showing how much he loves his friends than any of the main characters. obviously we know they love each other, but he’s the one who goes out of his way to comfort them, hug them, encourage them, etc. dammit, he’s hugged kakeru more than naho! he was the one who hugged kakeru when he was crying in their classroom.

don’t get me wrong, im not saying at all that he loved kakeru more than naho. it’s a huge thing with her and kakeru’s dynamic that they both are awful at showing how they truly feel and opening up, and that’s one of the beautiful things about this story in my opinion. they both worked hard to be able to tell each other how they feel, as that was one of naho’s biggest regrets.

it was just very noticeable to me that he seemed to be the most helpful and kind friend of the group, and also the most selfless when it comes to his own personal effects to pushing them together.

ugh I just love this boy and his love for his friends. he’s just so genuinely kind and it’s such a beautiful part of this story.

I just finished watching the Orange anime. And I am in literal tears. I had no idea something like this existed, like !!!!! how???

Orange was so beautiful from start to finish, just absolutely stunning. The characters, the art, the story. It had it all. 

Orange’s portrayal of friendship was so realistic and beautiful, it bought me to literal tears. And i’ve never seen any anime do as a good of a job portraying mental illnesses as well as Orange. It really showed how hard it is for victims of mental illnesses to slowly get over things, even when everything is well. 

Just AAAAH!

Also even though we didn’t get much screen time for all the characters, like Hagita or Azusa, they were still very well constructed with their own personalities and motivations. 

In the end you all should watch Orange, because it’s beautiful and grossly underrated.
