I had no idea Jim Henson died so young! Or that his wife Jane was co-creator.

I love people under this tweet going "I don't care about watching Fraggle Rock because it's for little kids" and that's how you know these people mean it when they say they never watched it, like
There's episodes with "Main Character Funeral" as the title, seriously
And it's far from the darkest episode.
#Muppet History#Fraggle Rock#The Muppets#to the people who say it's bc you didn't have cable that's valid#but the US version is all on youtube nowadays....

Back when this episode of The Muppet Show aired the Zip A Dee Doh Dah scene caused Ha! (Henson Associates) to get angry letters from fans and mothers of fans over how horrible and violent it was. Henson wrote back apology letters that read:
Dear...., Thank you for sharing with us your concern about the violence on "The Muppet Show" on which Alan Arkin was our guest. We are very sorry that you found this particular show disturbing. When we were taping the particular segment, we had to do it in one take - in other words, because Alan was going to smash the scenery - we could only do it once. As it happened, Alan got a bit carried away. Which, at the time, we all thought it was very funny. It was only later when we edited the show together, that we realized that we went a bit overboard. The Muppet's humor has always included a certain "harmless violence" - as have many of the classical forms of comedy and children's fairy tales throughout the ages. I am afraid that this show may have gotten out-of-balance. Yours is one of the number of letters we have received about this show. I am very grateful that you care enough to write. Sincerely, Jim Henson.
Personally I think the muppets have had more frightning stuff on the show (like the Alice Cooper episode or the You're Always Welcome at Our House song) and I just laughed out loud rewatching this scene now. But I do love that Jim reached out to everyone who complained. Truly an icon

That man was married and that didn't stop him from cheating and gooning. He doesn't even look like the type either. I'm shocked.

"How do we know the Muppet History guy's wife is also really involved in harassment, he could just be using her as a shield!"
Feminism: not even once.

An old joke I still laugh at
Guy runs into da docta's office, yelling "Docta! Docta! I got five penises!"
Da docta says "Dat's incredibel! How do ya wear trousahs?!"
He says "Like a glove!"
--Henny Youngman, the "take my wife, please!" guy
And a hell of a heckler-- here he fills in for Irving Benson, Berle's usual heckler in the balcony. If you ever wondered about the prehistory of Statler & Waldorf, some things are timeless:
