Hey,
Elected municipal official here. The actual worker oppression is employers forcing employees to be so strict with their time they cannot take a few hours off to go to necessary appointments without serious repercussion. Or that people aren’t paid well enough or provided enough work benefits to take the time they need in their personal lives.
Your local municipal workers are working class too. I’m elected and I make less than 30k a year on salary while working a position that is very much built around hourly work. I work through lunch and, while I have control over my office hours and employees, the only thing I don’t have control of is how much my town budgets (if that budget is successfully voted on by the townspeople) to pay me and my employees. My ability to decide what hours we are open is my ONLY bargaining chip to ensure the people below me get paid an acceptable wage to live on and sometimes I’m not even able to accomplish that. You can bet your ass I’d like myself and my employees, who are paid pathetically minimally to do what we do, to be able to go home for dinner in the daylight. Or have time to go to their second job of the day which most of them have. It’s the one thing I can provide them. (And why can’t we pay people more? Well I’d like to, but that would raise people’s property taxes significantly which they are not keen to do and which also may be unaffordable for some residents. I am the third highest paid employee. At 30k a year…)
There are a lot of ways that these offices can and do make things more accessible and it is something many of the workers that work in government offices have pushed hard for. You can do everything in my office through email exchange. All our records are online. All our meetings have zoom options and detailed minutes and zoom participation is considered being at the meeting. We will come to your house if you are physically unable to deliver documents and provide notary services. We mail all ballots to all active voters for elections. If you need to do something physically in the office and can’t be there during our office hours we will literally come in, unpaid, on the weekends to service you if you make an appointment. I’m not associated with our DMV, but you can do literally everything online for that too.
We are trying very hard to be able to provide for everybody, but we are also so incredibly burned out (we were forced to work and be open during the height of Covid yet were not deemed ‘necessary services’ so got no benefits of such and many of us work beyond our pay and hours). I ALSO struggle to make appointments because my office has to be open for all crucial hours for people. So yeah, I would like to go home at 4:30 after all that actually. It is the one thing I can actually do for myself and my mental health.
Without hyperbole government offices that take half an hour of waiting to get anywhere and close at 4pm are are a form of oppression against the working class

How have bill payments become easier through online channels?
The start of every month marks the arrival of bills. It is an inevitable expense that you need to deal with. Earlier, it meant sitting with a pile of bills and writing multiple cheques. Thanks to the internet, that is not the case anymore. Today, you can clear your monthly dues quickly through online bill payment. You only need your mobile phone for this, which makes the process hassle-free.
It lets you manage the bills for different services in one place. This saves you the trouble of organising them. Besides, you can complete the process with a few clicks through your handset. Most banks give access to this facility as an Online Banking service when you open an account. They also have exclusive Banking apps to make things easier. If you are yet to use it for paying off your bills, consider these aspects:
Quick and easy
Earlier, you queued up for utility bills as that was a standard protocol. Today, your bills get settled instantly. That is the convenience of online bill payments. Enter your details once, and it gets auto filled for future dues. This saves time. Even if you wait until the last minute, you can make payments quickly.
Timely payments
It is not easy to remember due dates with a hectic lifestyle. Often, you miss out on them. This is natural, but it costs you a penalty. The auto-payment feature helps you avoid this.
Eco-friendly
You also contribute towards environmental preservation by making a digital payment. It may sound strange, but it is true. As you opt for the online route, you reduce the usage of paper. The payment receipts are sent over an email. Hence, there is no need for a physical invoice. Besides, merchants also accept digital payment proofs for processing your complaints and queries.
Safe
Banks ensure your security with advanced safety measures. Everything gets protected, be it municipal tax payment online, fund transfer, shopping, or paying bills. They do this by using advanced encryption systems, multi-factor authentication, passwords, usernames, etc. Additionally, your transactions are secure with an automatic sign-off feature to prevent unauthorised access.
Efficient management
Going through a stack of bills is overwhelming. It creates confusion and results in mistakes if not careful. You need patience and time to pay off all the bills separately. Plus, writing cheques is another hassle. These things get efficiently organised through online bill payments. Here, you get the details regarding your bills. Hence, you only need to click to pay.
Conclusion: Embrace the ease of online bill payments for a hassle-free and efficient way to settle monthly dues. From quick transactions to timely payments, the digital route ensures security, eco-friendliness, and streamlined bill management. Whether it's municipal tax or travel booking online, enjoy the simplicity of a secure and efficient experience.

Quote
It’s remarkable. The amount of human devastation in the deindustrialized spaces in the United States has been unthinkable. Entire communities where the most common source of personal income is disability payments, fentanyl addiction rates in the double digits, 60+% unemployment rates among workers aged 18-25, collapsing municipal services, a doom loop of people fleeing all of that destruction which in turn devastates the tax base even more. At an extreme, you have a place like Gary, Indiana, where the population is lower than it was in 1927, where the violent crime rate is 318% higher than the national average, where residents live scandalously short lives, where fully a third of all residents live below the poverty line…. You could do the same kind of analysis in Detroit or Youngstown or Akron. These social problems are often dismissed as being a problem for white people, which is absurd given the demographics of these regions; arguably, no group suffered more from deindustrialization than the Black middle class. It’s a scandal that such terrible conditions exist anywhere in the United States for any reason. That the policy effort was made to benefit huge corporations and the wealthy only makes the whole situation more inexcusable.
They Still Won't Say That They're Sorry

Los Angeles is close: understand how the financing of sports in Brazil foments Olympic medals
Little known, the system supports high-performance athletes began to be structured at the beginning of the 2000s
Tumblr media
It’s almost a tradition: during the Olympic Games, questions about Brazilian performance emerge strongly on social media platforms. Commonly, complaints about the structure and salaries athletes receive become important. However, the right information about how this system works did not get the same attention.
That’s why Brasil de Fato interviewed experts in sports financing to explain how the transfer of public resources to high-performance sports works.
The current public funding system for Olympic and Paralympic sports was developed almost entirely during the first two governments of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party), between 2003 and 2010. The mechanisms that allocate most of the resources are Brazil’s Lottery Law, which sends money directly to the Brazilian Olympic and Paralympic committees and also to the confederations of each sport; the Sports Incentive Law, a mechanism similar to the Rouanet Law, which allows companies to make tax waivers to support sports projects; and the Athlete Scholarship, a monthly payment to athletes who achieve certain results, starting with youth sports.
There are also budget resources from the sports departments of the federal, state and municipal administrations. In addition, in 2008, a sui generis program was created to support the careers of high-performance athletes, the High-Performance Athletes Program (PAAR, in Portuguese) of the Armed Forces. It provides that athletes with a chance of winning medals can apply to join the Army, Navy or Air Force to take part in military competitions. For the athlete, this guarantees income, retirement and use of the Forces' facilities for training.
“Looking back over history, we can see that, over time, Brazil has been expanding and improving its participation in high-performance sports,” says Fernando Henrique Carneiro, a researcher at the Group for Research and Sociocritical Training in Physical Education, Sport and Leisure at the University of Brasilia (Avante/UnB, in Portuguese).
“So much so that in Tokyo [Olympic Games, in 2021], the country had its best results, which was very much the result of what was being built up for the Rio 2016 Games cycle. Over time, the Lula and Dilma governments have been structuring public policies for the sector,” he explains.

Regions of Kosovo Compared to Countries with Similar GDP per Capita PPP.
by FWolf14
Methodology:
Given that Kosovo does not report GDP data on regional level, I estimated the GDP per capita of each region based on the total amount of municipal taxes paid in each region. Municipal taxes include taxes paid for building permits, property taxes, administrative fees, payment of utilities and so on. Given that the municipal taxes reflect economic activity and they are mostly similar across regions, I considered them to be a good proxy for relative economic activity. I calculated the relative economic activity of each region based on the amount of municipal taxes they pay, then I scaled around Kosovo’s GDP per capita based on that relative scale. Kosovo’s GDP per capita in 2019 is $12,322 based on the IMF data.
The methodology is similar to a previous post from the past, with the main difference being that the data has been updated, the currency is now USD, and given that I am comparing the regions to other countries, I chose to use Purchasing Power Parity (PPP).
Limitations:
The results rest on the assumption that municipal taxes are paid at an equal rate. This means that tax evasion does not affect the accuracy of the results, as long as tax evasion is equal across all 7 regions. If tax evasion is higher in a specific region, then the GDP per capita of that region will be understated and this will ultimately inflate it in other regions.
Similarly, some municipal taxes are not equal across regions, though they are similar. This is another challenge that I cannot tackle directly through this methodology. I will try to find a better proxy to tackle this issue in the future, but at the moment I cannot think of any better one.

I see a disturbing number of people, mostly millennials, these days, who have significant incomes and are starting to amass significant savings, who have terrible financial management skills. People who live at home with parents and get a full time job can accumulate money really fast. A lot of people are letting huge amounts of money, like sometimes as much as $20,000 or more, accumulate in checking accounts where it is earning either no interest or negligible interest.
Because inflation is high (over 3% these days), you are effectively losing money when it sits there. Also you're allowing the bank to profit off it; it's lending your money out to other people, often at interest rates as high as 6-7% or more, and it's not paying you for it.
If you have more than maybe around $3000 dollars in an account, you want that money earning interest. Here are things you can do to earn more from your money:
Open a savings account at a higher yield. Go to a different bank if necessary. CIT Bank has rates around 5% these days.
Pay off high interest rate debt but not low-interest rate debt. If the interest rate is above about 7-8% definitely make it a priority to pay it off ASAP. If it is above 5% it is still better to pay it off than to sit on your money. If it is much below 5%, pay it off as slowly as possible (minimum payment only) because there are risk-free ways to earn more interest on your money.
If you don't need the money in the short-term, consider a CD (Certificate of Deposit) which offers a fixed interest rate over a certain time. Often you can get a slightly higher rate by tying your money up for 3 months or 6 months or sometimes even longer. These are good options if you have a specific expenditure in your future, like perhaps moving or buying a home, but you know it won't happen until after a certain date.
Open a brokerage account. Brokerage accounts allow you to buy and sell investments such as stocks, mutual funds, or bonds, which include CD's from banks as well as treasury and municipal bonds and corporate bonds. You get more options for buying CD's (i.e. you can compare many different banks side-by-side, buy CD with the best rate, and manage multiple CD's within a single interface.) Most brokerage accounts have no fees and typically no or very low minimum investments. There is no reason not to have one if you have a few thousand dollars.
In a brokerage account, buy a money market mutual fund. Look for one with no load and no transaction fee, a high yield, and a low expense ratio, and a fixed share price of $1 per share. My two favorite are SWVXX and SNSXX. SWVXX has a higher yield (about 5.19%) whereas SNSXX has a lower yield (just over 5%) but is non-taxable on state income taxes, so SNSXX is a better choice if you have a high state tax rate, otherwise SWVXX is better.
Consider opening a Roth IRA if you haven't, and then, if able, contribute the maximum amount each year. You are allowed to make a contribution that counts towards the previous year, up until the tax filing deadline of the current year. So for example today it is Mar. 14th, 2024, so you can open a Roth IRA today and contribute the max ($6,500) for the 2023 year and also the max ($7,000) for 2024, for a total of $13,500. The main advantage of a Roth IRA is that the money in them can grow tax-free. Roth IRA's benefit anyone able to have one (the richest people are not allowed to contribute to them) and are especially important for people who are self-employed, change jobs a lot, or never work full-time, so they don't have a consistent employee-provided retirement plan.
Consider investing in stocks. Stocks are riskier (in that their price changes, and you can lose money when investing in them), but tend to have a higher yield than savings and money market accounts and funds. The simplest way to buy stocks is to buy an ETF (exchange-traded-fund). I recommend buying one that follows the S&P 500 and has a low expense ratio like SPY or VOO. Whatever you buy, reinvest the dividends and let it grow, contribute a little money every year so are putting in money even in years the market is down. On average you get about a 10% return in the market but it is unpredictable and you will lose in some years, but that's okay, you're not retiring for many decades and the money will have grown a lot by then.
There are options regardless of your risk profile. It is throwing your money away to let a lot of money sit in a checking account. At a bare minimum, go for a high-yield savings account, CD, or better yet get a brokerage account, put it in high-yield money market funds like SWVXX, shop around for CD's or other bonds with the highest rates, and if you are able to tolerate some risk and want a higher return, consider putting some money in more aggressive investments like stocks.
I am 100% for tax reform and other reform to curb the extreme concentration of wealth in the hands of a few, but it's also important to take your financial situation into your own hands. Get financially comfortable. Get a stake in the US economy. Empower yourself so you can live better and help your family, friends, and the causes you care about.

Arizona Down Ballot Proposition Breakdown
Proposition 133: Partisan primaries (NO)
Proposition 133 would amend the state Constitution to require partisan primary elections for all partisan offices. Not good. Primaries should be open so independents have say. Having open primaries is on the ballot so this is like a shitty way to counter if that one passes and stop us from trying.
Proposition 134: Changes to citizen initiatives (NO)
They want to make it harder to have citizen initiatives and are probably salty we managed to legalize weed and get abortion protections on the ballot.
Proposition 135: State of emergency powers (NO)
Proposition 135 would give the state Legislature the authority to end a state of emergency and to alter the emergency powers of the governor. Our Covid response was honestly terrible, like we opened way early, but they still don't like anything happened at all. No emergency powers to protect people.
More On Arizona Prop. 135 (NO)
Proposition 135 could restrict Arizona governor's emergency powers
Proposition 136: Ballot measure challenges (NO)
Proposition 136 would allow Arizonans to challenge the legality of potential ballot measures before they’re voted on. They want to make it harder for the people to directly pass laws we want. Anti-democratic nonsense.
Proposition 137: Judicial retention (NO)
We can vote out judges and a couple of judges who supported reinstating an 1800s ban on abortions may be voted out and they want to make it so no one can vote out judges ever.
Proposition 138: Tipped workers (NO)
Proposition 138 would allow employers to pay their employees up to 25% less than the minimum wage if those employees are paid the equivalent of the minimum wage plus $2 per hour due to tips. Yeah, they want to be able to pay people 2 an hour so restaurant costs can be passed on to us?
Proposition 139: Right to abortion (YES)
Proposition 139 would establish a right to abortion in Arizona’s Constitution. Actually good, people worked hard to get this on the ballot.
If you vote yes on anything, vote YES on this.
Proposition 140: Open primaries (Yes)
Proposition 140, also called the Make Elections Fair Act, is a citizen initiative that would create an open primary election system in Arizona.
I voted yes, I hope we could have an open primary with one big ranked choice. But who knows if it will do anything.
Proposition 311: First responder death payment (NO)
Tricky. Yes, we want life insurance for firemen, but this prop says the government can use the funds for other things and also pays for it by putting more fees on all criminal charges. And like if someone is arrested for unpaid parking tickets are they gonna be able to pay this extra fee? And shouldn't the government fund their own employee benefits?
Proposition 312: Property tax refund (NO)
Republican lawmakers sent Proposition 312 to the ballot. It would give property owners the opportunity to apply for a property tax refund once per year between 2025 and 2035 to offset expenses they incurred due to a city, town or county’s failure to address a public nuisances, including illegal camping, obstructing roadways, loitering, panhandling, public urination or public consumption of drugs or alcohol. The law would allow property owner to recoup the cost of documented expenses not to exceed the total primary property tax the property owner paid to the responsible municipality in the prior year.
What a yes or no vote means
A “yes” vote shall have the effect of establishing the right to apply for a refund from a property owner’s most recent property tax payment up to an amount that matches costs incurred by the property owner to mitigate the effects of a governing authority’s repeated failure to enforce laws and ordinances prohibiting illegal camping, loitering, obstructing public thoroughfares, panhandling, public urination or defecation, public consumption of alcoholic beverages, and possession or use of illegal substances.
Basically, a criminalize the homeless and if you don't you have to pay rich people money. Bullshit.
Proposition 313: Child sex trafficking sentence (NO)
If passed, Proposition 313, which was sent to the ballot by the Arizona Legislature, would create a mandatory life sentence for individuals convicted of a Class 2 felony for child sex trafficking. Under current Arizona law, a person convicted of Class 2 felony for child sex trafficking faces a prison sentence of seven years to life in prison depending on a number of circumstances, including the age of the victim, the nature of the crime and the person’s prior convictions.
Sounds good right? Fuck sex traffickers. BUT victims of sex trafficking could also be charged so mandatory minimums are problematic.
Proposition 314: Secure the Border Act (NO)
Proposition 314, also called the Secure Border Act, was referred to the ballot by Republican lawmakers. The broad border and immigration legislation was inspired by Texas’ SB 2 and would create a new state law criminalizing crossing Arizona’s border with Mexico outside a legal port of entry.
They want state police to enforce federal immigration laws and cops can just arrest you if they think you're here illegally? Bad
Proposition 315: Regulatory rule changes (NO)
Sent to the ballot by Republican lawmakers, Proposition 315 would require state agencies to submit proposed regulatory rule changes to the Legislature for approval if the proposed rule is estimated to increase regulatory costs by more than $500,000 within five years. The law would allow any legislator or person affected by the rule to ask the Office of Economic Opportunity to review a proposed rule change to determine if it meets the threshold for legislative review.
Makes it so regulators can't effectively regulate because they have refer back to the legislature. Nightmare.

What Was Ours Is Now Theirs
The huge increase in the urban population of 19th Century Britain was accompanied by dysentery, typhoid and cholera.
The poor were blamed for cholera outbreaks, the result of their ‘ignorance’, lack of hygiene and general moral depravity. The prevailing orthodoxy was that laissez-faire capitalism and the management of water property for profit would provide solutions. It didn’t, and both municipal and state solutions – public ownership and management of water resources – were needed to solve the problem. Eventually it was recognised that easy access to a clean water supply was a basic human need, via the Public Health Acts. But with the re-emergence of neo-liberal and neo-conservative ideas about the role of the state and the importance of market solutions to social problems, all this is changing.
Britain is water rich, with adequate rainfall and only occasional water shortages. Until recently, water was generally seen as a common good and water planners saw any form of supply restriction, even a hosepipe ban, as an admission of failure. Regional water authorities pooled access to water resources and made long term plans for a London ring main, recharging aquifers from winter river water. People and organisations cooperated to manage water resources relatively effectively and to save water when it was needed, such as during the drought of 1975/76. However, water was privatised by the Tories in 1989, despite defeat in The House of Lords and the threat of prosecution by the EU on water quality standards, attacks by environmental groups over standards and questions about the fate of water authorities’ huge land holdings. As a result, the average household experienced an increase in water costs of 67% between 1989 and 1995. Company profits rose by an average of 20% to 1993 and are still high. The highest charging area of Britain, South West Water, took 4.9% of income from a household of 2 adults and 2 children, 7.6% from a lone parent and child and 9.1% from single pensioners in 1994. The profits of the water supply companies are being subsidised by the poorest people in Britain, those least able to pay. Thousands of households now regularly have their water supply cut off. In the Sandwell Health Authority area (in the West Midlands), over 1,400 households were cut off in 1991/2 and cases of hepatitis and dysentery rose tenfold. In 1994 2m households fell into water arrears, with 12,500 disconnected. Half of the water companies in England and Wales have selectively introduced or are testing pre-payment meters. The increased use of metering, most often in poorer households, has either increased water bills or resulted in forced cuts in water use by those who need it most. Non-payers are automatically cut off and the supply is not restored until the debt is paid. 10,000 meters have been installed in Birmingham since 1992; there have been over 2,000 disconnections. The water companies have responded to increasing criticism of their disconnection policies by devoting a tiny proportion of their profits to charitable trusts that help the poorest customers. This is pure PR and gives the corporations tax advantages. In the 1980s and in 1994–96, community campaigns defeated attempts to introduce water taxes in Dublin; see Issue 3 of ‘Red and Black Revolution’ for an excellent analysis.
Encouraged by a surge of prosperity in the 1960s, the Spanish have ignored the fact that they live in a semi-arid country prone to periodic, lengthy droughts. Golf courses have been built for tourists, swimming pools for themselves and there are many lawns and gardens requiring daily watering. Farmers have diversified from their traditional drought resistant produce such as figs and olives into water-hungry crops like rice and strawberries. The result is that Spain is now the world’s 4th highest per capita consumer of water after the US, Canada and Russia. Now it has to build huge dams and pay the cost to divert rivers to over-developed areas, amid growing environmental and community opposition. Other factors (which apply elsewhere) are laws giving producers the right to squander resources so long as there is a consumer demand to be satisfied; and the role of the centralised State (largely controlled by business influences), with its control of revenue, command of resources, expertise and power to enforce policy on citizens, in arbitrating the management of resources.

Farmers in Greece and Romania are protesting, joining a wave of unrest in the farming community that has affected several countries in Europe.
In Karditsa, Evros, Patras, Peloponnese, and in Serres, northern Greece, farmers took to the streets on Wednesday with tractors. They have also threatened to close highways, media reported.
A bigger demonstration is planned for Friday in Thessaloniki on the occasion of the 30th Agrotica, the largest exhibition of the agro-economic sector in the country. Farmers warn that if the government does nothing by next Monday, roads will be closed.
Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said things should not go to such extremes. “No matter how serious the demands of a professional group are, they must not lead to the punishment of all citizens and violate the rights of society. This government has proven that it is trying, without leading to extreme tension, to solve problems,” Marinakis told the public broadcaster ERT.
Farmers, among others, demand compensation for those who haven’t received it for the damage caused by Storm Daniel, which destroyed houses, businesses, animal and plant production and roads in Thessaly region in September.
They want the construction of infrastructure projects to protect against weather phenomena, reductions in production costs and a change in the Agricultural Insurance Organisation’s regulation so that the production and capital are compensated 100 per cent for all such risks.
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has already granted 33.9 million euros to 16,400 agricultural holdings and livestock units that applied for “first aid,” with payments to be completed in the next period. PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis said there will be a second cycle of aid worth 5,000 to 10,000 euros for farmers affected by the extreme flooding of September 2023 in Thessaly and other areas.
Farmers in Romania meanwhile continue to protest and demand relief from high fuel and insurance prices and better selling prices for their products. The government has devised some solutions to the demands, but many are unconvinced and continue to protest.
Large-scale protests took place on Tuesday in Brasov and Sibiu, central Romania, whwre farmers took 50 agricultural machines to the streets and staged a march. An authorized protest was also organised by farmers from Sibiu, who started in a column with tractors, trucks and cars across the municipality.
Such protests are taking place in all major cities in Romania, including on the ring road of Bucharest, where farmers have been protesting for weeks and hindering traffic. They were not allowed to enter Bucharest to protest in front of the government building to avoid disrupting the already heavy traffic in the capital.
Farmers in France, Belgium and Germany have been holding demonstrations blocking highways, with Reuters reporting that Spanish and Italian farmers will now join the movement.
They are complaining about EU measures to create “solidarity corridors” in order to provide Ukraine with income from agricultural exports, especially wheat. These products have flooded neighbouring countries and caused local production prices to fall.
The protesters also demand the cancellation of measures to limit agricultural production due to its carbon footprint and affect on climate change. They want the restoration of fuel tax exemptions. Far-right parties in Germany and in France have expressed vocal support for farmers’ demands.

Squirrels darted across the cobblestone in the garden as you sat at the table, waiting for the servants to bring out your breakfast. The squirrels eagerness to search for food served as a reminder fall had arrived and they were preparing for the winter ahead. Your book drooped in your grasp, your attention following the scampering instead. You never thought you would be jealous of a squirrel – but they had the freedom to go where they pleased.
Your food was placed in front of you, and you thanked them, closing your book and laying it on the table.
You heard Steve’s voice from inside the house and you sighed, buttering your bread. As his footsteps drew near, you looked up as you took a bite. He was dressed only in his robe – he must not plan to go anywhere today. He had been home for over a couple of weeks, leaving during the day, and returning to bed you at night. Your bruises from the night he came back were almost faded – without resistance following that night, he had not made new marks.
Instead of greeting you with a good morning, he pulled his chair back, commenting, “You’re inviting those rodents to come grab your food by letting them get so close.”
“They aren’t bothering me.”
“You haven’t bled,” Steve changed the subject without bothering to respond to you.
It was true. He had come home what should have been about mid-cycle for you and it was time for your monthly bleeding or should be.
“There’s still time,” you replied, staring down at your bread.
“For your sake, I should hope there’s not,” Steve replied coldly as his food was placed in front of him. His eyes were boring into you.
What pleasant breakfast discussion. You should have gotten up earlier so you would not have to suffer his mood and abrasive comments.
“So for my sake if not… you will allow another man to pay to be in between my thighs?” you asked him indifferently in return, dipping your knife back into the butter. “You would think with the amount that happens here, one might start questioning the men instead of the women for fault.”
Steve’s fist hit the table and you startled at the china rattling, dropping your butter knife adding to the clatter.
“How many times must I remind you to bide your tongue, woman?” he sneered. You bristled at the term ‘woman’ and even more so his condescending tone. But yes, you had forgotten your tongue and let it get away from you once again. “I have no plans to have you lay with another man. Considering I’ve been one used in those circumstances, I do not doubt I have no fault in this. No, this will fall at your feet.” There was a malicious glint in his gaze and you tore your own away, not being able to stand to look at him any longer. “So, if you are smart, you would realize you should hope you have taken my seed and do well with it. If not, well… I may have to get creative in other ways. I will not have a barren wife.”
The hair on your arms stood on end with the chill in that comment. He snorted, picking up his own bread to begin buttering it. Hand shaking, you reached forward to grab yours up off the table. You could not imagine what cruel ends Steve could and would go to if you did not fulfill what he wanted. It almost made you prefer the idea of home. At least there you knew what to expect.

Lettie and you sat close, looking out over the viewpoint from the Barnes’ back yard. The water stretched out ahead and the breeze from the surface reached you. Saskia sat at the head of the triangle, working on her needle point. She was focused, happy to stitch a design for her expected child. Hearing Steve’s threat the other week, you were having an easier time understanding how Saskia could reconcile the vile act she had been subjected to with the news of her pregnancy. Being pregnant was the key to the women of the capitol’s safety.
You were working on a painting; hand stitching never having been a skill of yours. You were being careful to not spill the paint on the blanket you were sitting on. Lettie was watching you work out of the corner of her eyes, her hands stilling every time something caught her eye on your canvas. You had not failed to notice that she was stitching lilacs – she had mentioned they were her favorite. Like Saskia, she was a natural at stitching and the different shades of purple were coming together to create a realistic rendition of the sweet smelling flower.
“Lord Parker was asking after you,” Saskia said to Lettie out of the blue breaking the silence.
Your heart skipped a beat, your hand faltering. You swallowed, making sure to not steal a glance at Lettie although you felt her freeze as well. There were only a couple of moments of silence.
“Oh?’ was all Lettie said, nonchalant.
“He seems interested,” Saskia replied, eyeing Lettie with a coy glint.
Lettie cleared her throat and asked evenly, “Isn’t he… young?”
Saskia snorted, “Younger but not too young. You would do well to see if he will pursue further. He is Lord Stark’s ward after all. He’s not a nobody.”
Laying her work at her lap, she made eye contact with Saskia now. “What do you propose I do?”
“Oh, Lettie. You know what to do. Flirt. But not overtly. Catch his attention. Draw him in with your eyes. Be coquettish. You have watched the other ladies. Surely you’ve picked up on how this game works.”
She certainly did. But it had not been tried on a male as far as you knew. She had done well enough to draw you in though. You were feeling jealously beginning to scratch away in the inside at the thought of her flirting with Lord Parker… being courted. And if it led to -- no, you pushed the thought away before you got too lost in a spiral.
“I suppose I have.” Lettie responded. “I’m just… uncertain.”
“Like I said. He’s not a nobody. This could be a fruitful match. And who knows? Once you begin to know him, perhaps there will be a spark.”
You wondered if Saskia had felt that hope when she had been courted by Bucky. And if she had, when that spark would have died when he showed his true nature. Lord Parker being under Lord Stark’s wing led you to believe there was very little change Lettie would ever feel anything for him and vise-versa.
“One can only hope,” Lettie said quietly.
“I will ask Bucky to invite him and Tony out to lunch this week.”
“Would you like company if Lettie is going to be preoccupied with Lord Parker?” you asked trying to keep the desperation out of your tone at wanting to be close by during this exchange.
“Oh, Y/N. I did not mean to leave you out. Of course you and Steve are welcome to come. And yes, I would like someone to talk to rather than staring off into space while Tony and Bucky talk about lords know what while Lettie and Peter get to know each other.”
You forced a small smile, “Wonderful. I look forward to it.”
<><><>
Lettie looked so uncomfortable with Peter hanging off her arm. He had not left her side since she was introduced to the room. You suspected this whole thing had been set up by the two families to get Lettie off their plate. She was a good match but Saskia having a hand maiden for too long would look improper in the capitol’s eyes.
How you wished to be the one on her arm and not him.
He had kept her on the dance floor for the majority of the time and the slight twinge in her expression told you her feet were beginning to ache. Steve had been preoccupying himself with a separate group than the one Tony was socializing with, which meant that she was not left beside you when Peter went to fetch her drinks.
You locked eyes and tried to give her a reassuring smile. The one she gave in return was weak.
“She shouldn’t look so miserable,” Saskia whispered in your ear, startling you. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.”
“It’s okay,” you said, running your hand over your ear nervously. “She is probably just nervous. I don’t believe it is ingratitude for the situation.”
“Nerves or not, we ladies taught her better. And I explained it to her. You explained it to her how important is that she finds favor with him, and this goes through,” Saskia continued. You held your tongue at the comment that you were pushing Lettie towards this. “They will make a lovely match. Think of how lovely their children will be.”
You smiled convincingly and gave a curt nod.
“Perhaps I can get Bucky to invite Peter and her over here…” Saskia said more to herself than anything before turning away from you.
Sighing, you looked to the other side of yourself and gave a slight tug on Steve’s satin sleeve. His eyes slid towards you away from the conversation and you gestured with your glass for him to fetch another. You wanted another to try to distract yourself from the idea of Lettie having children.
“No more wine,” Steve said in hushed tones in your ear. “You’ve had a glass, you should not risk more with the babe. Be happy I let you have the one… soon it will be none when I can officially announce once you are a month past your date. And that is coming up quickly.”
Your hand dropped and you began to turn back away from him but he caught you. He took your goblet and said, “Water will do you well.”
He left and you stood alone.
You shot a look over to Lettie and found her turned away from you as well, Peter’s hand flexing on her back possessively.

We have described for you the deplorable criminality which has gained access to our world through the British Government(s) and their collusion with the Holy Roman Empire -- the impersonation of people as different kinds of corporations, the illegal and unlawful direct taxation of civilians by private banks, the use of commercial corporations to usurp national governments, and we have touched upon the corruption of the courts, especially Admiralty Courts and the so-called King's Bench (Maritime Commerce) courts.
We have plainly stated that the courts are bonding court cases and presenting them as investment opportunities. The bond numbers are case numbers, and the odds of conviction and "commission returns" on these bonds run at 96% on average, so the Hired Jurists running these courts are highly motivated to secure convictions by any means possible ---- the courts and the court's officers share in the booty they collect.
Government "Investors" are also highly motivated to keep this gravy train running. Where else can you guarantee yourself a 96% rate of return on a short term bond investment?
When first confronted about this "Court Registry Investment System" court officials stonewalled and denied the existence of any such bond investment (and ultimately, payola) system by which they receive commissions, aka, "pension" payments from all the loot rolling in from the illegal confiscation of privately-held American assets and equally illegal betting on the rigged outcome of court cases controlled by Hired Jurists in the King's Service.
The Guilty Parties observe that there is no law against murdering corporations, stealing from corporations, impounding corporations, etc., but then, in the same token, corporations should have no ability to make unlimited political campaign contributions, should they?
Those responsible for the unconscionable contracts allowing them to create all these Puerto Rican shelf corporations, and the Roman Inferior Cestui Que Vie Trusts that result when the shelf corporations are bankrupted, should be paying all the charges and expenses of maintaining these corporations and should also be paying all taxes owed by these imaginary corporate franchises, too.
The living victims of this personage scheme should be held absolutely harmless from all charges and harm, but as everyone can see and attest, the Parent Corporations and Administrators have been evading their Usufructuary Duty and foisting their responsibility off onto the victims of their inland piracy.
The Admiralty Courts have been busy collecting booty belonging purportedly to "rebels" engaged in illegal commercial mercenary "wars", and salvage fees owed by foreign sovereigns, and managing the Estates of imaginary British Merchant Mariners, who all just happen to be "Taxpayers" --- Warrant Officers who are responsible for collecting tariffs for the King, who are all based out of Puerto Rico and all declared "missing, lost at sea".
The Maritime Commercial Courts operated by the British Crown have been fraudulently confusing themselves -- the so-called United States District Courts -- with district courts of the United States authorized under Article V of the Federal Constitutions. Under this guise of borrowed rectitude, they have been operated as "concessions" to take advantage of the Cestui Que Vie ESTATES purportedly belonging to Municipal "citizens of the United States".
Are we all beginning to get the drift of just how crooked all these operations are and the nature of the "courts" that have been foisted off on the people of this country, who have all suffered crimes of impersonation and identity theft and human trafficking, at the hands of men employed by them to protect their "persons" and who are obligated by contract and treaty to do so?
As mentioned in our International Public Notice: Impersonation, the British Territorial Rump Congress created by Abraham Lincoln changed the meaning of the word "person" to mean "corporation".
See 37th Congress, Second Session, Chapter 49, Section 68.
This was followed up on February 2nd 1871, when the 41st British Territorial U.S. Congress declared itself to be the Successor of all United States Corporations.
The "United States" being referenced is the American Federal Republic and its corporations.
This takeover was done with no Notice to the Public, no listing in the Congressional Record, and, most importantly, no Notice to the Federation of States. It failed all requirements of Due Process.
How is that even possible?
By February 2nd 1871, all the State Governments had been confused with State of State Governments, and the Brits had illegally included State assets as if they were American State of State assets, and rolled everything into "State" Trusts.
They had also demanded that the people of each State write new Constitutions allowing their own British Territorial State-of-State operations to take over.
The American States of States, such as The State of New York, were replaced by British Territorial counterparts calling themselves, for example, "the State of New York". The name change was so slight, a change from "The" to "the", that nobody but British Collaborators knew there had been any change at all.
The new "State" Constitutions enacted between 1863 and 1871 were equally vague and deceitful, appearing very similar to prior service contracts and calculated to hide what was actually going on from the American Public.
By February 2nd 1871, the assets of the actual Autochthonous Nation States had been illegally and illogically misidentified as assets of the Federal Republic and had been cashiered in covert State Trusts, like the Michigan State (Trust).
This is what gives rise to the grammatical nightmare of "the Michigan State Capitol" and "California State University".
As an analogy, if the company hired to mow your lawn went bankrupt, or for any reason failed to perform, would this justify an assumption that your property was part of their bankruptcy or incompetence? Would this scenario justify an assumption that your home was an asset of their bankrupt business? Or an unclaimed chattel of theirs?
Certainly not, yet this is precisely the "reasoning" employed to secretly latch upon the assets of the American States and cashier them in State Trusts controlled by the Perpetrators of this gigantic fraud scheme.
With the State assets illegally cashiered in trusts controlled by the Perpetrators under False Pretenses, the original American State of State organizations inoperable, and British Territorial States of States operating as franchises of the British Territorial corporation calling itself "the United States of America" --- Incorporated, there was nothing to stop the Perpetrators from bypassing Due Process owed to the actual States and People.
According to them and what they told the rest of the world, we had ceased to exist. Our lawful American Government was reportedly "in interregnum" and in the meantime, our British Territorial and Holy Roman Empire Federal Subcontractors were "assuming" a "custodial interest" in our assets.
In this way, the British Territorial Government under contract to our States, contrived to unlawfully convert our State assets into Public Trust assets controlled by their Agents, and to mothball and substitute their own "services" for both our Autochthonous American States-of-State organizations and our lawful State Governments.
This is all premeditated, malicious, self-interested legal chicanery and constructive fraud, by which our foreign employees have attempted to erase our national sovereignty, use our assets as collateral backing their debts, and ultimately, bring False Claims on Abandonment against our assets for their benefit.
We never abandoned anything, just like we never volunteered to act as "Taxpayers" and never knowingly adopted U.S. Citizenship, and were told nothing about the Roman Inferior Trust ESTATES established for us under the resoundingly False Presumption that we were ever "citizens of the United States", either.
These False Friends and False Representatives impersonated the American States and seized upon their assets, and have controlled our State assets by dint of secrecy, False Legal Presumptions, and False Claims dependent on similar names deceits.
Our original state-of-state entities doing business as, for example, The State of New York, were members of the failed Confederation.
Likewise, the stricken State Republics and Republics of State, such as the Texas Republic and Republic of Texas, were members of the failed Federal Republic.
Their assets might, arguably, be salvaged and secured by the British Territorial Federal Subcontractors doing business as the United States of America, Incorporated ---- but not the assets of our Autochthonous Nation-States.
Our Autochthonous unincorporated States of the Union are members of the unincorporated Federation of States.
There are no "United States Corporations" present for British Interests to seize upon or assume any custodial interest in.
In the same way, there is no excuse for them impersonating our States as State Trusts, substituting their state-of-state organizations for ours, nor any of the criminal impersonations and undisclosed registrations of individual Americans that have taken place.
There is no plausible excuse for them bringing their Admiralty and Maritime courts ashore and misaddressing American civilians as corporate franchises and foreign persons in their own country.
All of this is in direct violation of both The Constitution of the United States of America and The Constitution of the United States, Article IV, in its entirety.
These men and women are present in our country to provide us with essential government services in "good faith", not to practice crimes of personage against us and pretend that they are our "representatives", custodians, guardians, and trustees.
For those who cannot believe that the Admiralty and Maritime courts presently operating in this country have been used to promote illegal and immoral confiscation of Autochthonous American assets, to commit personage against average Americans, to create a rigged bond market and to provide commissions masked as "pension payments" to the men and women engaged in this criminal activity, we are attaching a 66 page pdf file that adequately explains the Court Registry Investment System (CRIS) and documents its receipts.
