Miss Jessie’s Multi Cultural Curls

I’m always on the prowl (I use this phrase a lot...) for good products for curly hair. I became a major Miss Jessie’s fan after using Creme de la Creme and wanted to see if I could keep the momentum going with Multi Cultural Curls. I picked it up at Target for around $13.

Multi Cultural Curls contains Safflower Oil and Olive Fruit Oil. It’s a light weight formula designed for wash and go styling. The bottle promises that the formula “fights frizz and adds just the right amount of super soft hold.” 

I've used this styling gel (the product has the consistency of gel, but slightly, lighter and less sticky, although it is not marked or labeled as a hair gel) several times and have gotten great results. First of all, it smells great and I love the way it leaves my hair smelling fresh and clean. It secures my curl pattern and shape and is gentle enough for every day use.

The only variation from the directions that I do are the following:

1. Instead of using a capful, I use a quarter-sized amount and distribute it evenly throughout my hair. I find this to be easier for me. I have a tendency to use too much product when styling so I like to ease it in to my hair. I’ve also found that a quarter-size is enough for me.

2. I don’t scrunch my hair as I apply the product as the directions state. When I do this, my hair gets “crunchy” later in the day. I put in the product, run it through my hair, and let it air dry. This routine has gleaned the best results for my hair. but experiment and see which routine will work for you!

I use this product sparingly, so it has lasted me almost a year. But keep in mind, I alternate between curly and straight hair, keeping my hair straight most of the time. While I use this before air drying my hair, the bottle has directions for drying your hair with a diffuser or for if you want to refresh your look.

I would recommend this product to those who need a products that keeps their curl pattern in tact throughout the day without the “crunchiness” of a gel. I applied this product yesterday after showering and my curl pattern is still in tact, but my hair feels soft, as if there’s barely any product in it.

While doing research for an upcoming blog post, I stumbled across this #curlyhair styling tip on @mycheekycurls website: to apply leave-in conditioner AFTER your styler. This was the first time I’d heard of it, but if you haven’t noticed already, I like doing really random tests on my hair...that’s the fun part of the #curlyhairjourney & I hope my experimentations have been enjoyable for you too! It didn’t sound intuitive at all, but you know I had to try. This was the result on day two after wash day (when I added the leave in). I used the @miss_jessies #MulticulturalCurls cream first then applied my @officialkinkycurly Knot Today leave-in & finished by diffusing with my @thecurlyco diffuser. You can swipe to see the MAJOR difference between the volume and texture on day one versus day two. I had no idea this would happen when making the switch, I thought it was going to do the opposite and add more definition to my hair, but also weigh it down. Have you tried this out before? What were your results?
