Meczet tatarski, Bohoniki

Drugi z meczetów znajdujący się na "Szlaku Tatarskim" województwa podlaskiego, dużo młodszy od meczetu w Kruszynianach, zbudowany w 1873 roku. Świątynia, która pierwotnie znajdowała się w tym miejscu całkowicie spłonęła. Odbudowana - została zdewastowana przez Niemców, którzy podczas II wojny światowej urządzili w niej szpital polowy. Przez późniejsze lata była wielokrotnie remontowana.

Meczet jest zbudowany jest z drewna, to niski kwadratowy budynek, który wyróżnia z otoczenia podlaskich domów wieżyczka (minaret) z cebulastym hełmem i zakończeniem w postaci półksiężyca.

Wnętrze meczetu składa się z 3 części. Najpierw wchodzimy do przedsionka, w którym obowiązkowo zdejmujemy buty. Podczas modlitwy kobiety udają się żeńskiej części, czyli Babińca, jaki oddzielony jest od części męskiej drewnianą ścianą ze szczeliną. Przysłania ją przezroczysta tkanina, przez którą panie obserwują nabożeństwo.

Najważniejszym miejscem meczetu jest mihrab, czyli niewielka wnęka w ścianie, która zawsze wskazuje kierunek Mekki. Równie ważny jest minbar, czyli rodzaj kazalnicy z jakiej imam wygłasza nauki. Podłogi meczetu wyścielone są miękkimi dywanami, ściany zdobią kolorowe obrazy, zdjęcia i muhiry, czyli cytaty z Koranu, świętej księgi muzułmanów.

Tatar mosque, Bohoniki, Poland

The second mosque located on the "Tatar Trail" of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, much younger than the mosque in Kruszyniany, built in 1873. The temple that was originally located in this place completely burned down. Rebuilt - it was devastated by the Germans, who used it as a field hospital during World War II. Over the years it was renovated many times.

The mosque is made of wood, a low square building, distinguished from the surrounding houses of Podlasie by a turret (minaret) with an onion-shaped dome and a crescent-shaped tip.

The interior of the mosque consists of 3 parts. First, we enter the vestibule, where we must take off our shoes. During prayer, women go to the female part, i.e. Babiniec, which is separated from the male part by a wooden wall with a gap. It is covered by a transparent fabric through which the ladies observe the service.

The most important place in the mosque is the mihrab, a small recess in the wall that always points in the direction of Mecca. Equally important is the minbar, i.e. the type of pulpit from which the imam delivers his teachings. The mosque's floors are covered with soft carpets, the walls are decorated with colorful paintings, photos and muhirs, i.e. quotes from the Koran, the holy book of Muslims.

Christian grew up on Long Island, to Christine and Fidele, his parents having moved to the States ten years before his birth. They spent much of their time fostering and in the end that was how he ended up with seven adopted siblings. He's the only biological child of his parents.

Growing up he was used to chaos. There was never a quiet moment in their house, children of all ages filling every room, singing and dancing, the beginnings of a brass band forming at one point thanks to school and interest in music for several of them.

Love was abundant in the Muhire home, although they were used to having very little of anything else. It meant hard work while growing up, hard work and commitment to wanting to succeed and get out there on your own. And he did exactly that, he headed out to university and is still working hard every day to pay off his student loans, even if the whole experience led nowhere in the end. He’d wanted it too, been desperate for a career in medicine, although in the end, he’d had to drop out before he could get his masters degree.

For years he dreamed, but in the end, had to let his life move in a different direction. Tragedy struck down the family and he found himself raising a couple of his younger siblings on his own for a while. He spent two years back at his family home doing all he could for them before eventually moving out to the Bronx and settling there with a couple of friends.

When he was younger he'd had an interest in showbiz, in the joy of singing and dancing, acting too, and this was the path he followed when he moved across to the city. Auditions were plenty, but never seemed to go anywhere, unfortunately, and that was why, in the end, he found a job at Stardust ( something he absolutely adores ). In the evenings he sometimes does a drag act at Glow, too.

He knows what he does isn't anything special to most, but he absolutely loves it, uses it as a way to get to know people and talk their ear off ( when he's not singing anyway ). There’s nothing that Christian loves better than a good gossip, especially about those living in his neighbourhood.

Christian’s loud, totally out there, but he’s used to overcompensating because he could never be heard when he was growing up.

That’s probably another reason why he’s so colourful and desperate for attention.

Despite everything, though, he’s the life and soul of the party, a constant joy to be around —- at least, that’s what he’s been told.

He is on WhatsApp and messenger 24/7, will never leave anyone hanging more than five minutes unless he absolutely has to.

He has a deep love of 90s music and is usually wandering around the apartment humming or singing N*Sync or Britney Spears.

Has very little regard for what people think of him and spends a lot of his time trying to encourage others to love themselves exactly how they are, to get out there and express themselves.

Christian absolutely loves board games. He'll gladly spend a day doing nothing but playing games with friends and pigging out on pizza.

New RNA-seq metabolomics protocol offers more efficient extraction that maintains data integrity

The protocol employs a streamlined extraction from a single sample, which reduces variation, improves efficiency, preserves data fidelity and maximizes use of precious biospecimens. “Our new technique enables researchers to study metabolic phenotypes in a unique way while getting the most information we can out of single samples,” said Ryan Sheldon, Ph.D., director of VAI’s Mass Spectrometry Core. “The most important takeaway is there is no loss of information by using our new, more efficient protocol.” Until now, scientists have had to use two sample extractions — one for RNA-seq and one for metabolomics. This approach requires multiple samples or a single sample divided into subsamples, which increases variation and has an unknown impact on data interpretation. The current workflow also can make multi-omics approaches challenging, especially in rare sample types; the extraction process destroys the sample, precluding additional analysis. To validate the protocol, the research team compared results from the standard extraction to results from the new approach. The findings clearly showed the new protocol preserved data quality while saving time and resources. The new protocol is published in the journal RNA Biology. It was developed by scientists in VAI’s Core Technologies and Services and Department of Metabolism and Nutritional Programming. Core Technologies and Services provides state-of-the-art technologies and expertise to Institute scientists and collaborators. “Our new strategy offers an important proof-of-concept for future efforts to incorporate additional -omics approaches, with the goal of creating a singular extraction pipeline for RNA-seq, metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and others,” Sheldon said. “This work would not have been possible without the exceptional Core Technologies and Services team here at VAI and the Institute’s commitment to collaboration and rigorous science.” Authors include Zachary B.
