Atem whenever he sees someone trying to stand up to Kaiba, and even coming close to matching his sass.
"Why bother? He's clearly not going to change."

Hi! I love your meta btw, your recent posts reminded me that yu gi oh exist lol i used to watch it as a kid but I don't remember anything so I wanted to ask you what's the best watch order and (maybe) your general opinion about the various spinoff
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: I'd recommend watching this one first because every spin-off after this one either recycles archetypes, or subverts tropes from the original so it'll enhance your viewing experience.
Afterwards, the simplest is release order. GX -> 5DS are in the same continuity as Duel Monsters, and they have a crossover Film Bonds Beyond Time.
Zexal's basically a standalone it has no connection to the previous, but I'd reccomend watching it after Duel Monsters because there are a lot of references in plot and tropes to the original.
You need to have watched GX, 5DS, and Zexal to understand Arc-V because they reference settings and characters from the original series. It's basically every single Yu-Gi-Oh! Series fights in a Denny's Parkinglot.
You don't need to see any previous series to watch Vrains.
You need to watch Sevens before Go!Rush because the main character of Sevens shows up in Go!Rush, and Go!Rush is a prequel sort of kind of.
As for my general opinions and reccomendations, below the cut:
Duel Monsters is the original and sets the standard. I think the manga is better on this one because it acknowledges Death-T, which I think is crucial for Kaiba's development. He did more than just steal one of Yugi's Grandpas cards. The arc of the main characters Yugi and Yami with Yugi learning confidence and Yami unlearning arrogance is really good, especially in the manga where Yami starts out as a lowkey serial killer. Battle City and Duelist Kingdom are also two really good tournament arcs, Battle City in particular is probably the best Tournament Arc in the Series.
Yu-Gi-Oh GX! Is my personal favorite but it's a mess. I've once heard it described as "GX is two seasons of absurdist nonsense, and then a complete emotional breakdown." In my opinion there's a lot of good foreshadowing and buildup for what will happen in Season 3, and Season 3 is one of the best shonen deconstruction arcs especially of it's main protagonist in anything ever.
Honestly the worst part of Season 1 and 2 for me isn't even the pacing, it's that it recycles plot points from Yu-Gi-Oh! but less good. The Seven Shadow riders just do shadow duels because they did that in original Yu-Gi-Oh, there are three super powerful cards like the Egyptian God Cards. In season 2 there's a villain with a split personality like Marik, and the Genex tournament is really bad plotless meandering tournament arc compared to Battle City.
Season 3 is also masterful at utilizing things that were foreshadowed in the past 3 seasons, especially in regards to Judai's flaws which have been swept under the rug until now.
I think YGO GX is one of the best casts, and also one of the best at balancing screentime of its cast so characters show up when they're relevant and disappear when they're not relevant, and every major character has an arc. However, it's very much the Judai show, and if you're invested in a character that's not Judai you'll likely think your fave didn't get used to their fullest potential.
Yu-Gi-Oh 5DS has one of the best beginnings of any Yu-Gi-Oh series and it's excellent at building Fortune Cup -> Dark Signer and jacking up tension. Dark Signer, Barian Arc and Gx Season 3 are probably my top 3 arcs. I won't talk about it much because I don't want to spoil.
Season 2 is still good, and the ending is excellent as well as the villains, but the pacing becomes abysmal due to production issues. Carly and Aki are probably the two best female characters in all of Yu-Gi-Oh, and all their screentime and relevance gets erased. If you watch Yu-Gi-Oh for the duels, the relay duels suck and last 3 whole seasons and nobody gets to win a duel if they're not Yusei Fudo. As someone who really enjoyed Yusei in season 1, him becoming a perfect hero who always saves the day and never makes mistakes and never gets challenged signifcantly by the narrative because he's always right makes him super uninteresting. I want to clarify I think Yusei is still a character with depth and character flaws, but the narrative doesn't challenge him on this flaws. Aporia and Z-One do a lot to redeem Season 2 though and it ends on a real highpoint.
Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal is probably the highest quality Yu-Gi-Oh series overall, especially since there's no drop in quality ever it ends on it's highest point. Shark is probably the single best written character in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Vector is the best written villain.
I actually don't have much to say on Zexal because I don't want to spoil what's good about it. My only complaint is that it's cast is padded with way too many characters who do nothing. You could cut Yuma's entire friend group and lose absolutely nothing. The female characters in Zexal are abysmal too, the worst in any series. The characters with arcs though are all good and iconic.
It's also the only show that manages the ambiguity where none of the villains are actually villains, almost every single character has a sympathetic reason for what they're doing even the ones that are wrapped up in revenge plots. It gives a really interesting challenge to Yuma the pacifist protagonist who doesn't want to pick sides. Yuma's up there with Judai too in top ten protagonists.
Arc-V.... I think you can still have fun with Arc-V, but the Z-arc plotline just was not a good idea and it makes the show fundamentally flawed because everything from episode 20 onwards is built around the Z-Arc plotline.
Vrains has some solid ideas and themes. I especially love the emergent ai ideas that are present with the ignis and bohmann it's one of my favorite topics in science fiction. I've got two main problems number. I enjoy playmaker as a character, but much like Yusei I feel like over time he's not as challenged as character by his narrative. THough, the final season does a lot to rectify that.
Vrains second and biggest problem is that it plays it really safe after the production disaster that was Arc-V. Which means the first two seasons while enjoyable enough feel kind of by the numbers at times. The third season is amazing though, but it suffers from the series being cut short so it's only about 20 episodes. Still ending on a high note is always a good thing.
Sevens is kind of the closest to a slice-of-life Yu-Gi-Oh which makes it hard to compare to the other series. I do enjoy the main cast of characters, but to be honest it's really hard to get invested for me personally, when every arc is just "I hate Rush Duels. I'm going to try to destroy Rush Duels. Nevermind, Rush duels are awesome actually." Every. Single. Arc.
I'm only 16 episodes into Go-Rush and it's not finished yet, but my main take so far is: Yudias! Yudias! Yudias!

🐧🕊️🦤🐦 (SFW) and 🦅 for the meme?
Thank you for the asks! I pulled from a lot of different WIPs for this one! And y'all are welcome to send in more asks if you're curious!
🦅 an angsty quote (something PAINFUL!! ouch ouch ouch!)
I've teased this fic several times before, but I honestly have no idea if I'm ever actually going to finish it? But I have so much written for it that I love, and I love every part of the concept, so maybe one day I will, and y'all can just overlook the two characters that are visiting from other franchises. 👉👈
~~~~~
“Don’t think for a moment, Pegasus, that I’ve forgotten a single second that I spent on your island.” Grey eyes flashed with anger as he turned on KaibaCorp’s long-standing business partner.
“That’s all in the past now, dear boy,” Pegasus dismissed with a wave of his hand. If he was trying to calm him down, it wasn’t working.
“All in the past? You stole my soul,” Mokuba growled, an old anger rising to the surface and finding an outlet for the first time. “You stole my brother’s soul. You turned him against the only people who could have helped him.”
“That was–”
“You kept me in a dungeon.”
“I wouldn’t have had to if you had stayed in the tower.” His calm response, so utterly remorseless, sent chills down a few spines.
“You wanted to sacrifice us. And if that wasn’t bad enough, you were trying to take over everything my brother had worked to achieve.”
🐧 a funny quote (silly! laughs! jokes! puns!)
Y'all, stop asking for funnies, I'm starting to run out... (from a deleted scene)
~~~~~
“Seto, I need some advice.”
Blue eyes blinked at him from behind a pair of wireframe glasses, and Ryou was surprised. He’d never seen Seto wear glasses before.
He removed them quickly—was he embarrassed about them?—and moved his chair to the side, leaning over a little to see his friend better around the computer monitors.
“I need to finish this first. It should only be a few minutes. Can it wait?”
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
Ryou nodded and wandered over to the couch pushed up against the wall to Seto’s left. At first he perched on the edge, but after a couple of minutes he relaxed a bit and sat more comfortably.
“You wear glasses now?”
“They’re just to protect my eyes. I spend a lot of time in front of computers.”
“They look good on you.”
"You don't have to say that."
"I'm serious." Ryou smiled thinly. "They make you look less intimidating."
"Then I probably shouldn't wear them at work."
Ryou laughed.
🐦 a romantic quote (can be sweet or sad or sexy, or just your favorite interaction between them!)
Looking for a "romantic" bit made me feel dumb lol. I was like, "Damn, do I even write romance???" I just couldn't find anything! 😅
~~~~~
"You know," Duke said with a slight smile, "That sounds exactly like the kind of thing Ryou says when he's trying to explain you to me."
"He explains me to you?" Kaiba looked confused and critical, unsure of what Duke meant and unsure if he liked it.
"Maybe the more accurate description is that he explains his perception of you to me. He sees you as a very complicated person."
"That's not inaccurate."
"Don't smirk at me," Duke teased. "Being complicated isn't something to be proud of."
Instead of replying, Seto kissed him, soft and simple.
So this was the kiss that Ryou told him about. Maybe he kissed this way when he felt vulnerable. It was worth asking about later.
"Thank you for trusting me."
🕊️ a sweet quote (something sweet, fluffy! maybe it's cute or funny banter! or sappy wedding vows!)
Some Kaibro affection. Joey is a golden retriever weredog in this fic, "Puppy Love."
~~~~~
Seto rolled his eyes.
“Seriously, Seto, what harm is he going to do?” Mokuba crouched down on the floor next to his dog and put an arm around his shoulders. Joey's ears perked up. “Just look at his sweet face! How can you say no to him when he's so adorable?”
“The same way I learned to say no to you,” Seto retorted.
Mokuba hugged Joey close and teased, “Did you hear that, Joey? He just called us adorable!”
🦤 a quote you had to delete :( (but still wanna share!)
I have SO MANY OF THESE! Y'all are welcome to send in as many dodo birds as you want! (this one does not get any explanation)
~~~~~
"His existence is anger and pain, punctuated by outbursts of violence. Doesn't that sound like someone you know?"
Ryou sputtered, momentarily speechless with anger.
"How dare you compare Seto to the Spirit of the Millennium Ring?!"
“I didn’t say a word about Kaiba,” Marik snapped back. “You filled that in on your own.”
Astonished and horrified, Ryou’s jaw dropped. He slowly closed his mouth and swallowed hard, tears pricking at his eyes.
“Don’t call him Kaiba,” he finally whispered, then whirled around and reached for the door handle.
@crossworldnexus Sent: A 𝑺𝑯𝑶𝑼𝑻-𝑶𝑼𝑻𝑺 𝑶𝑭 𝑨𝑾𝑬𝑺𝑶𝑴𝑬𝑵𝑬𝑺 (Accepting!)
💜 ― receiver's choice ( simply shout out whoever you want )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My choice? Well, I guess I'll be a little creative and still go by a category with my shoutouts (I'll do two per ask and try to not repeat myself between all these asks so I can give all the shoutouts), but I'll make it one that's not in the meme. That category is "gets Rarity to write novels consistently," which is honestly one of the highest badges of an honor I can present to a mutual, cause it just means how invested I am in a plot/dynamic/thread if I feel the need to write something super long (along with the fact I'm crazy and like being extra but still xD)
@abysseeker (all your blogs too cause there is too many to tag LOL) Crix Twix, our local chaotic card game lover, legit these days we just write novels cause we just can NEVER write anything with less than 6 paragraphs anymore LOL. But you know what? We embrace that and I think our writing together (for all the crazy chaos we have across our many blogs and muses) is better off for it. All the effort you put into our stuff (to your wording, your protrayl, to everything!) is amazing, and I just wanna give you that much back! You always challenge me to do better with my writing just by how amazing yours is, and writing with you is always a blast (Even when you make the angst more intense. We know what you do to Toshiki Kai LOL) Has since we met and continues now almost 8 years later. Thanks for sticking with me. <3
@shachou Ani, our local Kaiba Collector Queen, I know we've only been writing together for about six months (Happy Half-Year RP Friend/Partner anniversary!), but it feels like it's been longer because I swear when I try to write a not novel length reply to our stuff it just COMES OUT. I thank you for keeping up with me and my wordyness, and for all the wonderful plotting and development we've gotten to do with our writing! Your Setos (both president and priest) are so well crafted, and I genuinely feel like they've jumped off the pages of the manga with your attention to detail with every aspect of them in your portrayals. I always get excited when I see you respond (Especially the long stuff cause I know I'm in for a good read), and I hope my writing gives you that same feeling, even if it feels like you're reading a book chapter every time I respond cause I can't stop fleshing out everything.
Yuma & Astral > Yugi & Atem. Fact
As usual, my disclaimer. Yugioh DM and Yugioh Zexal were the only two Yugioh series I watched completely. I watched DM in the dub and Zexal in the sub. If I had known about the sub as a kid, I would have watched DM in sub :'(. But I was not watching the whole series again. I have watched several sub clips though so I have a fair idea of the Yugioh DM sub.
Now that I have listed my credentials...let me start what may be a hot take.
I love both partner pairings though I like Yugi & Atem more just because I was never a huge Astral fan. But objectively, Yuma & Astral are the superior pair when I look at their story arcs.
The problem with Yugi & Atem is that Atem feels more like the main protag than Yugi. It was not until the Memory Arc during the Yugi vs Bakura duel that it hit home that Yugi was meant to be the main protag. Sure, Yugi has his moments but Atem does all the heavy lifting. Yugi and Atem had great teamwork in the Pegasus duel and it was epic to witness. But otherwise, Yugi does not really have any memorable duels until the last arc. Yugi only duels when Atem is unavailable (eg. in the Bandit Keith duel) or for emotional duels (eg. possessed Joey). Atem is the guy who ultimately defeats the main players: Bakura, Pegasus, Kaiba, Marik, and Dartz. Yugi is basically Atem's support guy and is delegated to the background. Which is why I was never a huge fan of their ceremonial duel. It felt totally unearned to me. First, Yugi has the advantage of knowing Atem's deck while Atem has little knowledge of his. Frankly, the ceremonial duel is quite forgettable and underwhelming. The main moments were Yugi defeating the Egyptian gods and that last symbolic move with the Ressurection of the Dead card. I like Yugi but he never felt like the main character of the story. Atem fought all his battles for him. When things got tough, Atem took over and Yugi took the backseat and got all the glory. Yugi deserved better and I wish his title of King of Games felt more earned in the narrative because Yugi is canonically a prodigy gamer too. In the dub, Yami's thoughts while dueling sound like Yugi so it makes it appear that Yugi is contributing. It's a nice touch but hardly enough to compensate, especially since the sub does not have anything like it as well to bolster Yugi.
Now Yuma and Astral. Thank goodness I found the sub. Dub Zexal is annoying to watch. Yuma is one of my fav Yugioh protag. Honestly, a lot of times I have Yuma as my favourite. Yuma's development was incredible and he is unlike the others who were just naturally amazing duelists. Because Yuma started off as a bad duelist, he relied a lot on Astral. However, what makes the dynamic between Yuma and Astral more interesting than Yugi & Atem is that they are separate entities during the duel so we get to see their interactions. So instead of just possessing Yuma's body, we see Astral coaching Yuma and even some amusing situations such as when Astral played reverse psychology on Yuma when the kid was being stubborn and refusing to listen to him. As Yuma became better, he became less dependent on Astral and we even see Astral congratulating Yuma on creative plays that impressed him. Then we see Yuma and Astral as equals when they fuse with the power of Zexal (cool power by the way **squeal**...although it can be too OP lol). Because of this, I always saw Yuma as the main character of the story, despite Astral's amnesia driving the plot. We see Yuma defeat the villains, sometimes without Astral. Yuma's rivals are HIS, not just Astral's. We see Yuma and Astral working together on screen. We see that Yuma and Astral's goals begin to conflict when Yuma befriends the Barians who are the enemies of Astral world. Therefore, Yuma's ceremonial duel with Astral had so much more buildup and was way more climactic. Yuma grew as a duelist to the point where he could defeat his teacher and step up to save the world from his best friend if need be. All with a smile on his face. I don't care what the Zexal haters say! Yuma is such an awesome character, despite being one of the youngest protags.
Both ceremonial duels have heartwarming endings. But I think Yuma and Astral had a better dynamic than Yugi and Atem. Yugi's only moment against a main villain was in the Duelist Kingdom arc but he never got a moment to really shine after that until literally the last minute.
Yani Yugi/Atem fornthat meeeeeme??
First impression: Mind you I didn't have the full story at the time but I hated him as a kid to the point where he was my model for what I hated in all protagonists going forward </3 Was less about the character himself and more I hated that he always won and could use magic to win instead of being good at cards (8yr old me despised the heart of the cards so much because it made Kaiba lose LOL)
Impression now: Now that I'm older, less one track about Kaiba, and finished the complete story I do like him a lot more (I for sure never finished Battle City or Memory World as a kid or teen so, didn't help). More depth than child me wanted to give him credit for, but I wish the narrative indulged his flaws as flaws more because the way he always wins vs the unfortunate repercussions that has is really interesting to me. It's frustrating seeing like every time it started to build to him having his values challenged only to suddenly drop some kind of excuse for him to just stop thinking.
Favorite moment: In YGO R when he just blasts that guy with Slifer instead of dueling because he's in a hurry. It's my favourite duel of the whole franchise.
Idea for a story: Not really a specific story but I'll only accept Atem Lives AUs if there's some sort of drawback. I don't like resurrection without consequences. I don't mean in like a "came back wrong" kind of way but just like. Needs more uncertainty. Regret. The fear of making the wrong choice. Personal conflict, you know?
Unpopular opinion: Didn't have a sad childhood at all. It was great, in fact! He lived a life of luxury, was kind of a spoiled brat, and if we go off of his memories for MW all his trusted advisors helped ease the burden of leadership for him plenty. I don't think he needs some tragic childhood either, it doesn't add anything substantial to his character for me.
Favorite relationship: Yugi seems obvious, so I'm gonna go with I like how highly he thinks of Jounouchi and their closeness, to the point I guess somehow he can just track Jounouchi with the puzzle sometimes lol
Favorite headcanon: I like when people draw him as being really into loose, flowing clothes and floral prints, things like that,
What creative hobbies does your interpretation of Joey and Kaiba (in general) have or do? Like for example, drawing, creative writing, 3D modelling, sculpting, woodworking, etc
I do remember reading one of your chapters from the gundam crossover series where joey did sketches lol
I don't think I really have a consistent view of creative hobbies for these two. In fact I don't seem to write a lot about them having creative hobbies unless it's directly plot relevant. Ironic, given 90% of my life outside of work revolves around my creative hobby.
Canonically in the manga, Jounouchi is mentioned as enjoying plamos. Which makes a lot of sense to me that he likes making stuff with your hand. It's also hard to have a lot of creative hobbies when growing up poor. So I can see Jounouchi wanting to make a lot of stuff like plamos and kits, but that shit gets expensive fast if you do the whole painting bit too. One of the pleasures of growing up and making your own money for Jounouchi will be getting to explore those hobbies he might have always wanted to but couldn't because of financial reason. That opens the door to related hobbies like painting/sculpting/woodworking.
(Related, I love making Jounouchi a carpenter. I think it's an excellent trade for him to pick up, giving him both room to grow and decent financial security).
Conversely, traditional sketch art/doodling is relatively inexpensive and a much lower barrier to entry re: tools. So that's why I think drawing/sketching is a nice hobby that Jounouchi could pick up and enjoy earlier on. In the Gundam crossover, that combination of a love for plamo and sketching definitely informed his career choice.
I think Jounouchi enjoys singing too, but he probably thinks of it less as a hobby than as a way to goof around. He's pretty good too when we take into account his Japanese VA's singing career.
Kaiba, on the other hand, lived a life of (relative) financial security. However, given how strict his education was, I dunno if he was ever given much of the mental space to explore creative hobbies. Art might have been seen a frivolous waste of time within his home schooled education. The one exception to that might be music. I can see Gozaburo insisting on Kaiba learning an instrument or two. But at that point it's more about developing a skill set to show off (and maybe me projecting the Asian experience of your parent forcing you to pick up an instrument because that's classically considered part of a well-rounded education in many East Asian cultures). Violin or piano are the most likely candidates here. Kaiba is good at them, because he has to be. He can't not learn it well if Gozaburo is invested in that part of his education.
How much he personally enjoys it is up for debate.
Definitely one of those things that I imagine falls quickly to the wayside once he's out from under Gozaburo's control. But that also offers opportunities for him to maybe rediscover it later in life, after his skill set had rusted a bit from lack of practice, and learn to enjoy the hobby for itself while relearning the ropes.
A lot of the creative hobbies I've written for Kaiba follow the same development model, including tea ceremony and calligraphy.
I guess that makes them both kinda comparable, because they've each lived a life of scarcity in their youths (more financial for Jounouchi, and emotional deprivation for Kaiba) that robbed them of opportunities to explore their creative sides. As they heal and grow, they can begin to explore those possibilities for themselves.
Ygo and 3, 5, 9 and 12 please!
Thank you for the ask!! Let's see...
3. …which scene I would like to erase from the universe and why.
Hmm... the entire segment with Anzu getting creeped on before Atem saves her. It's not handled well, and she deserves better. It's really explicit in its creepiness, and at the end of the chapter in the manga, even Yuugi is like "aww Anzu's cute sleeping face"?!
It's really just fodder for Anzu's attraction to Atem, something she thinks back on and swoons over, so it could have been literally any other kind of serious danger instead. I might feel differently if I felt like the story cared about about her other thoughts and emotions here at all, you know? It would still be annoying though.
Or, alternately, in chapter 7/Toei, when Atem curses Chouno with Ugly Disease, because gender roles and anti-aging bad and annoying lol.
5. …the scene from it that lives in my head rent free.
Atem overkilling Haga-
No, but hmm, a lot of the sillier or more chaotic scenes where characters are just interacting with each other or displaying their personalities in ways that have little to nothing to do with card games. I've always said that my favorite scene bar none is the trapped cave scene in DK. I also love the scene with Honda and Yami Bakura in DK, and Otogi and Honda fighting on the blimp in BC, and everyone bullying Kaiba into calling an ambulance and Shizuka winning, and pretty much anything Miho gets up to in the Toei anime, and-
Basically just, anything like that. I'm a sucker for it.
9. …which characters I think should have interacted more in canon.
Any of the girls with each other, and also Bakura with anyone, poor child.
12. …what attracted me into checking it out.
Oh man, that's a deep cut. I... have no idea, hahahaha. I would give almost any anime I saw on afterschool TV a try at that point. What I can tell you is that I very quickly became obsessed with Jounouchi, Kaiba, and the Change of Heart card (but not Bakura for some reason? poor, poor Bakura... he wasn't there enough... I only wanted him for his card). I liked the series overall, but almost all I can remember about it from my actual childhood is them.
They're also what enticed me back to it in my adulthood, hahaha. I'd more or less forgotten about it for years, but during a very rough time, I saw a silly KaiJou meme. My brain went... yeah, more of that, actually. Long forgotten comfort characters unlocked. Then I just kept reblogging YGO posts. Then I was a YGO post. The rest is history.
(Questions here.)
Tagged in by the lovely @gwentrification!
Favorite color: Deep blue and/or purple! (I am mildly colorblind so it's sometimes difficult for me to tell the difference lol)
Currently reading: Mainly Types and Programming Languages by Benjamin C. Pierce and Category Theory by Steve Awodey
Last song listened to: Jesus fuck I do not remember. I think the last song I heard was Mr. Brightside cuz it was playing at the cafe, but like the last thing I listened to? Couldn't tell ya. Possibly something from the new Dwarf Fortress soundtrack?
Last movie watched: Watched The Five Star Stories with @gwentrification, @j-psilas, and @impossiblejellyfishfart the other night!
Last series watched: I think this would be Kaiba? Also with @gwentrification and @j-psilas :3
Currently craving: The abolition of the 40-hour work week
Currently working on: Oh god, many things. I think I've said this before but I perpetually have at least a half dozen personal projects in flight at any given time. Got a tiny little game dev project that I wanna finish, got a larger game concept that I'm still fleshing out a little before I get much implemented, got a haskell library for music composition I've been poking at, I have a steno board that I still need to write the firmware for, there's the Rust parsing combinator library I started making for use while working through Types and Programming Languages... etc etc etc
Tea or coffee: I love them both very dearly, but I think my love for tea is much less situational. I'm pretty much always down to have some tea, whereas I kinda have to be in a particular mood for coffee
@groundlessness @kwarrtz @lady-inkyrius it's chain letter time besties :3
Jounouchi for the meme :3
What I like about them
His bravery and determination! This boy has endless perseverance and six hundred yen to his name and he will make the most of both of them. An Egyptian God couldn't kill him in a way that mattered, and people really think they're going to stop him when he puts his mind to something? Please. He's also snarky and funny as hell (in the manga / English dub of the anime, at least). Love this boy.
What I dislike about them
In the early parts of the manga he was a perv toward women because haha, perversion is so funny, right? 🙃 No, it's not. Rest in peace, Takahashi, but I hate how much you included male characters being pervs in the early chapters of the manga. (Jounouchi was far from the only victim of this.)
Favourite moment
Either when he stayed in the Black Crown to rescue Yuugi during the fire, or the pier duel when he broke through the Millennium Rod's control to save Yuugi from drowning. 😭 My heart will never recover fr.
Least favourite moment
Again, the moments in the early part of the manga when he was a perv toward the female characters . . . so fucking gross.
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
Honestly I feel like not enough attention is paid to the fact that the home Jounouchi comes from is not only broken, but that he's scraping by by the skin of his teeth working part-time jobs (which he really shouldn't even be doing as a high school student, but does it anyway to support himself and his piece of shit dad). Like jokes are made in the manga about how Jounouchi will jump at the chance to make some money, or how he'll scarf down any food he can get his hands on, but like, yeah! He's dirt poor! His dad is a worthless scumbag who is abusive and neglectful and doesn't work! He has food insecurity because again, he's broke as hell. And yet he never makes this anyone else's problem, he doesn't resent his sister at all for getting to leave with their mom (and instead just loves her endlessly) . . . he's a great kid and doesn't get enough appreciation for the shit hand he was dealt in life and how he just bares his teeth in a grin and deals with it anyway. Kaiba could fucking never.
An interesting AU for this character
I like my AU where he still survived Ra's attack in Battle City, but did so at the cost of losing his memory (which leads to Shizuka taking him back to Hanafuda City with her to live with their mom after the tournament is over). And of course A Candle in the Dark is my magnum opus, and also counts since it's a canon divergence.
A crossover
I still love my Legend of Zelda crossover, which is less a crossover and more of a blend of the Hylian cycle surviving into modern times . . . even though it's in no way canon, Jounouchi having the Spirit of the Hero is canon in my heart.
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
Jounouchi/Yuugi, of course. I maintain this ship would be so, so much more popular if people read the manga / the anime was actually faithful to the manga.
Other ships?
None, tbh, although I do really like his dynamic with Anzu . . . if Yuugi didn't exist then I would probably ship Jounouchi with her. But since Yuugi exists, lol, nope.
BROTP
Jounouchi & Anzu, since Yuugi exists. Their relationship development is just so good. They literally start at the very bottom of "only tolerate each other for Yuugi's sake," but then by the time Battle City rolls around they're hanging out without Yuugi and Anzu is enthusiastically cheering him on. (Not to mention how she told off Kaiba for his sake? Baller.) Their relationship is sooooo good.
And of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Shizuka! The little sister ever. The one who inspires Jounouchi to keep fighting, for her sake if nothing else. The one who wanted to give him courage right back! It's really unfortunate that Takahashi didn't do more with Shizuka—she deserved so much better, she deserved to show that she has the same fire her brother does!—but that's okay. I can fill in the gaps myself. <3
NOTP
Jounouchi/Kaiba and Jounouchi/Mai, and to a slightly lesser extent Jounouchi/Atem because it really doesn't make sense with Yuugi there / I can't do that to Yuugi. (It doesn't make sense because canonically Jounouchi always picks Yuugi over Atem, and I can't do that to Yuugi because Yuugi already feels inferior to Atem; having his best friend pick Atem over him would be just cruel.)
An assortment of headcanons!
He's allergic to cats! He has a Kuriboh keychain on his keyring that Yuugi gave him. (He gave a Baby Dragon keychain to Yuugi in return.) He has a Sonic the Hedgehog cell phone charm while Shizuka has a Tails one. He associates miso soup with being sick because it's what his mom used to make for him when he was little. His favorite fruit is satsuma oranges, because when his parents were fighting before his mom left, he'd put orange slices in his mouth and smile around them, which would make Shizuka laugh / distract her from the fighting. He's good at math. His favorite NES game is Battletoads, though he's never beaten it. He's a decent cook, because he had to learn or he wouldn't eat after his mom left. He doesn't ever drink alcohol because of the alcohol-related trauma that comes with having an abusive alcoholic as a father. (And similarly, any partners drinking alcohol would be a massive turn-off.) He's bisexual. He likes games of chance, but never gambles for money because the reality that he could lose that money gives him (metaphorical) hives. He learned how to hotwire a car when he was thirteen, and knows how to drive even though he never gets his driver's license. He grows up to be a radio DJ with a talk show all his own after high school. He also does Let's Plays and game commentary. He doesn't have a co-host for his radio show because he talks so much he honestly doesn't need one. (He's got the gift of gab.) He's actually pretty good at basketball. His favorite band is Siam Shade.
Ye olde list of my dankest oldest yaoi
Tumblr media
I made a meme template for my fella. You can see how he filled his out on his blog. You should do this too! Just save the image and repost it with your ships, no credit necessary.
10 years ago can also be 10+ years ago, just any ol' fashioned classic yaoiyuri.
My ye olde ships:
Slade/Robin (now Nightwing/Slade lol)
Kefka/Terra (ff6)
everyone including random monsters/Vincent Valentine (ff7)
Harvey Dent/Joker (dark knight movie)
Riddler/Scarecrow (batman comix)
Kaiba/Yami Yugi (ygo)
Malik/Yami Bakura (ygo)
Sniper/Spy (tf2 /neg)
Superman/Batman (capeshit)
Deadpool/Cable (capeshit)
These don't include some of the obvious ones that I'm still drawing to this day LOL like Scout/Spy or Goblin yaoi.
Warning for LONG ASS rambling about each ship under the cut.
The common thread is that 86% of these were memes posted to 4chan's /co/ board. When I WAS. A YOUNG MAN. I just liked whatever I saw other people posted cuz i couldn't form my own opinions yet. I think that's just a general age thing, as you get older you hone your personal tastes more, whether it's books or yuri or food, and it's less satisfying to wait around at the buffet for other people's tastes.
It's a lil interesting how much easier it was to just let other people feed me things to enjoy. Now that I'm older and pickier, I have to proactively seek very specific tastes and sometimes make dishes for myself!
Some thoughts on thots:
Slade/Robin: This is like, baby's first "dark ship". Lots of 8 yr olds saw the Apprentice episode, and pogged out cuz of the evil groomy tension. Then you get all the 8 yr olds posting their dark yaoi on deviantart LMAO.
The default back then (And still now?) is evil daddy dom Slade making poor widdle babby Robin cry. I didn't have particular tastes back then in regards to that ship cuz I was 8 and just followed what was popular LOL. In [current year], I only like the pairing if Slade gets his anus slapped and slorped by the dude he tried to groom. What can I say, I get older and the old gnarsty dudes keep getting older too...!
Also, I'm really shocked that new people are getting into this pairing because of Teen Titans Go's chibi Robin. It's time to bring chad manlet Dick to public consciousness!!!
Tumblr media
Kefka/Terra: 👴 Back in my day, I did not see any FF6 shippy stuff on the internet at all. The doujins and fanart were mostly for the FF7 and above 3d games. So this was something I thought up for myself while playing the game, without any outside influence... incredible for a kid I must say! The dynamic is "evil clown grooms psychic girl into a MAGITEK WEAPON". It's really funny how things change, I wouldn't find interest in that dynamic now :p But I understand why a depressed edgy 10 year old (me) would find that interesting to explore.
Everyone/Vincent Valentine: I just thought Vincent was cute! I still like goth dudes who look like ladies with long hair (Who also turn into monsters). I tried to get into ships proper for Vincent, like Sephiroth/Vincent, Cloud/Vincent, Cid/Vincent.. but none of them really struck my fancy. I didn't really care for their character dynamics. I just liked Vincent LOL. So my favorite doujin I found when I was a wee lad was a monster x Vincent manga, cuz Vincent was cute :3c That segues into the other side of the fujo spectrum: A lot of my fannish thoughts when I was a kid (and even now) was based on having one favorite character and just wanting to see them look awesome and hot and cool and sexy. I think that's actually more related to gay manga culture than fujoshi culture, where gay manga can commonly just focus on one guy getting gangbanged with no emotional pairing necessary.
I could live with just seeing sexy Green Goblin and never shipping him with anyone else, ya know? And I'd be happy just drawing my sexy Senspai without any annoying Scunts around. The annoying younger halves of my pairings are often just projection opportunities, ya know? But I don't have the mental ability to do self-inserts because I have no conception of self.
Harvey Dent/Joker: Hey, when you're a kid and the new Batman movie comes out, you get sucked into it! You can see this in action with all the new Riddler fans cuz of the edward cullen batman movie! Nurse Joker was a huge meme on /co/ when this movie came out, and as the joke says.. /co/ is gay. And probably full of closet fujos. I had no emotional connection to this pairing, or even thoughts on their interactions, but I have quite a bit saved of these two on my computer. Plus I stole a lot of Aaron Eckhart's Harvey for my character Angus. Blonde and buttchin!
Riddler/Scarecrow: Again with the new Batman movie at the time, this time reviving interest in characters that weren't even in the movie! I liked Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow even though he only gets 5 minutes total of screentime in all 3 Nolan movies combined. Because I like girly men with killer cheekbones and kissy lips. I also REALLY enjoyed Jeffrey Comb's voiceover for BTAS Scarecrow. And Frank Gorshin Riddler was also a beloved meme on /co/.
I don't remember what the dynamic even was between these two. I just remember a small imageboard split off from /co/ for just Batman yaoi at the time, and this being a popular ship. Sometimes I wish it could be this easy for me to get into media and enjoy it with random strangers again LOL.
Kaiba/Yami Yugi: I loved Yugioh as a kid. This was one of the most popular ships, so as a kid you're just ecstatic that so much art and writing and fans existed for this one thing. You never starve, even if you don't have especially strong feelings for the food! Kaiba/Yami is still pretty cool to my adult brain though. I love the obsessiveness of Kaiba, and Yami is just an eternal waifu.
Malik/Yami Bakura: You can blame the abridged series for this one! Yaoi bait begets yaoi bait. This falls under the "dumbass x grumpy" archetype that I still enjoy. No especially strong feelings for this one, though I do have more modern headcanons of Malik, Rishid, and Bakura living together in a strange poly-angle. It's just cute!
Sniper/Spy: Ah, TF2chan.. a place where dreams live and die. Sniper, Spy, and Scout were part of the cursed twink trio on that chan. REAL MEN liked MANLY ships like Heavy/Medic, Demo/Soldier, or Soldier/Engie. You're a gay stupid yaoi fangirl if you liked any combination of Sniper/Spy!!! Jokes on them, I liked pretty much every pairing for TF2 back in Tha Day.
TF2 truly was a milestone in the fujo pipeline, from anime twinks to middle-aged slightly more naturalistic twinks to finally burly hyper testosterated manly men. We can blame the SSS twink trio for helping many transition (And I mean that in every way of the word 😜).
I think now I'm just sick of anything TF2. Reminds me too much of assholes and shitfucks! The transition of TF2 from edgy gamer chan culture, to tumblrites, to twitter geeks... eugh. I only care about fearless Scout/Spy allies :)
Superman/Batman: Hey, it's the NaruSasu of superhero ships! I have a lot of these two saved on my hard drive from my /co/ days. Once again, because gay art of these two was posted constantly as a meme. When the "straight dudes" on the edgy imageboard acknowledge the inherent homoeroticism of a pairing, it's validated in the young fujo's eyes. (cuz what girls like is stinky? and what men like is cool and real? lol lots to unpack) Still think this one is cute! I'm not AS invested in this as some people are as an endgame OTP that gets married and love each other ONLY, but it falls under the genki x grumpy archetype that I enjoy. It's a good relationship for Bruce to have and ruin!
Deadpool/Cable: Ah, the final channer-approved pairing. Complete with channer-approved fanart and pornography I still have on my hard drive! I might actually have the most art of them together saved out of all these ships...They had a comic together called Cable and Deadpool. Deadpool flirts with Cable and dreams about putting lotion on Cable's bare back (heh). What's not to like? Still cute, still genki x grumpy! Again, not an invested endgame ship for me right now, but certainly something I'm grateful to have enjoyed and shared with Shane :) Especially having enjoyed this before the Deadpool movie came out, and before all the weird fucked up Waid comics! I WAS HERE FIRST!!!!!!
Heheh uno reversing your question on you <3
Tell us which of your own fics you enjoy re-reading and what about them prompts you to revisit them. Or if you don't, what other fics in the fandom do you like to re-read? Rec them!
Ooohhhhhh, I do it for a lot of fics! But mostly just for my longfics, actually? I very rarely reread my one-shots, though there are a few exceptions.
Booty Call. It's less wholesome than most of my other Puppyshipping content, but the asynchronous story-telling is just so fun. And I guess I like it being a little different from my usual stuff. I feel like it's also less heavy than my usual Puppy content is? Not that there's no angst, it's just, like, the only time I write this ship where Kaiba's daddy issues never even get mentioned lol. (much wow, such restraint)
Skin to Scales. Someone please explain to me why I've already reread this fic at least ten times when it's less than a year old; it makes me feel vain lol. I'm still so proud of how quickly I write such a long fic, and still laughing at myself for thinking such a concept could possibly be contained to a one-shot lolololol.
I've reread a lot of my magnum opus, Rock Bottom. Which parts I reread depends on a lot of things. I'll frequently reread the last several chapters just to check the flow and tone as I work on the next chapter, but I've been doing it a lot recently because I'm just really enjoying how it's been going—and because I've been excited to write this section since I started writing this series. Sometimes I'll pop back to Season Zero for its unapologetic and angsty melodrama lol. I reread Season Two, Chapters 6-7 just for the fluff and the feels (that scene with Joey and Seto cuddling on the couch? It's absolute candy to me). I don't reread Season One as much, except for the rooftop Yugi/Seto duel, because (and I'm super biased here) that duel slaps hard. I'm proud of it. Also the time in Pegasus Castle, because that's where things get truly interesting.
This is one that I've mentioned before, but I never linked it before: my original Mumbleshipping fic. It was supposed to be a one-shot. It started as a one-shot. Then it turned into indulgent melodrama and angst and got out of control in the funnest way. This is the fic that Power of Three (another fond reread of mine) is supposed to be a prequel for, but POT will probably rewrite these events significantly when I get caught up in the timeline. I do read it to remove myself of how far I've come, but also to look back at just how excited and passionate I was and enjoy that memory. These two fics are the epitome of "I wrote this for ME" because I was not expecting more than a few curious clicks on that one. As for the original story, I still can't decide whether Amane ends up with Mokuba or Marik, but I do know for sure that the two will compete over her for a little while at least; yes, I'm aware of the poly option here, but that would require Mokuba to forgive Marik for Battle City, which, even with this reformed Marik and maturing Mokuba, is going to take a lot of work. BUT STILL, I think it would be very cute for the three of them to end up together. Yes, I'm a madwoman, follow for more madness.
There's one more that I usually come back to once or twice a year, not because it's good, just because, wow, it was such a bonkers thing to write. It's only posted to FFN, and I'm kind of too embarrassed of the fic to even link it 😅
Thank you for your thoughtful answer and for giving me a chance to share my own brainworms lol. ☺️
Seto Kaiba pre-relationship headcanons pt. 2
Content: MORE SETOOOOO <3
Warnings: Uhhh none I don't think
Notes: Part 2 hehe. Part 1 here
~*~*~*
Tumblr media
OKAY. So to add on to before, I don't think Kaiba would pay a whole lot of attention to you until he finally gets some time off to go on a vacation with Mokuba, and Mokuba wants you to come with
It's clear that the younger Kaiba brother looks up to you so much already, and he texts you while you're in school all the time, so much that Kaiba's had to tell him to stop so you can focus on your studies
Mokuba actually gave Seto your number, he just has yet to text you back lol
So, Seto agrees to let you come along on the vacation. He texts you during school (after he just told Mokuba not to smh) and just fucking tells you that you're going. Doesn't check to see if it's okay LMFAO
You're just kinda staring at your phone before texting your parents/guardians that you'll be going on vacay with the Kaiba's.
(Forgive me, I've never been outside of America so I don't know what this is like) Seto and Mokuba are set on going to the Carribean, so you packed your bags and went with them
Seto, now relaxing by the poolside while you and Mokuba play in the pool, he's scrolling through social media on his iPad when he gets hit on the head with a beach ball
He looks up and Mokuba is hiding behind you, both of you looking terrified
He puts the iPad down. “Yes?”
“U-Umm…maybe put the tech down and…spend time with us?” You say, not so confidently.
"I have wor-"
"But it's a vacation, Kaiba." You retort. "C'mon...live a little. At least for Mokuba?"
Seto sighs and puts the iPad down, taking off his shirt and jumping into the pool, splashing both of you.
Seto is actually surprisingly easy to get along with, as seen when he resurfaced and immediately pounced on you and Mokuba.
"You wanted me to put down the tech!" He says.
Seto will take pictures of you, him and Mokuba before going out on dinners or to nearby beaches, or just even out anywhere. Seto's actually big on capturing the moment, change my mind.
When he posts the pictures, he'll tag you in them, surprising everybody at home. Joey would comment some shit like “WOAH (nickname) YOU WEREN’T KIDDING 🤯🤯🤯”
If Seto finds you two asleep, he'll drape a blanket over the two of you (and may just give you a lil smooch on the forehead before reeling back and being like "wtf why did I do that")
He'd also be watching a movie with you two and Mokuba falls asleep, leaning against you. You both snicker and make sure the blanket is keeping him warm.
"Thank you, Kaiba. For the vacation." You beam tiredly.
"Hm? Of course." Seto responds.
"Can I lean against you...? I'm a little tired..." You'd yawn.
"mhm." Seto nods, not taking his eyes off of the movie.
You lean against him, head on his shoulder, and you slowly fall asleep on him. He'd look down at you and give you a soft smile, once again leaning in and kissing your forehead, less shocked that he did it this time.
Mokuba catches on to Seto's growing feelings for you before he does, and teases him about it.
"You like (Y/n)!"
"What? Mokuba, that's preposterous."
"Admit it! You like her!"
"No, I do not!"
"Okay, so you wont mind if she goes on a date with Yugi, hm?" Mokuba smirks.
"Don't you dare!" Seto retorts.
"HA!"
Once y'all get back home, there's already many rumors that you and Seto are dating. Now people at school hang off of you like tree sap on a tree trunk.
Seto doesn't answer the rumors. Mokuba is begging him to just ask you out, Seto is trying to figure out his feelings, and you're wondering why Seto hasn't answered the rumors yet. It's a mess.
Eventually, Seto finally mans up.
He comes home late once again, you're just scrolling through your phone on the couch.
"What're you still doing here?"
"I wanted to talk to you, Seto."
"Fitting. I also have something I need to talk to you about." He's fucking nervous.
"You go first, then."
Seto then confesses how he feels about you, and how he wants to pursue a romantic relationship with you.
"...Well that partially goes along with what I was gonna say."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. I was gonna say, either deny or confirm those dating rumors and either reject me or date me."
Guess you're dating now <3
Probably gonna make part 3?
Seto Kaiba's coat thoughts?
Tumblr media
(gif is from a ygo amino)
I love thinking about character design and how it can reveal things about a character. While not every character's outfits are profound symbolism or anything, I do think there is a lot to be said about Seto Kaiba's coats.
All of his coats, especially the white battle city one remind me of the wings of a dragon (especially for how they flare outward and around so much) and the hip-spikes and generous shoulder padding just sell it for me. I feel like this is intentional but obviously idk what TK's thoughts behind it were lol. But my personal head cannon is that it is an extension of his obsession with BEWD and he is trying to make himself look like a dragon, i.e bigger and more imposing.
I think his coats are his armor. the BEWD is a consistent figure in his life and in a way, his protector, his right-hand man (card? dragon? woman? idek) The BEWD is something Kaiba uses as a vehicle of his power and an extension of himself. And I think that also applies to his manner of dress. Kaiba never wants to feel small, weak, or unguarded ever again.
So he wears a coat bigger than himself that ripples behind him as he walks, how it seems to defy gravity and appear to be carried by wind even when he is standing still, and how it creates distance between other people. It adds to his presence and makes him take up space. He doesn't only want the dragon by his side, he want's to embody it. Everything is like warfare to him. May it be a duel or the tasks of a businessman. BEWD, his pride, and cut-throat methods are his weapons. And his coat is his armor of choice.
(please correct me if I'm wrong) Excluding episodes where he's in a school uniform or something, he is never seen removing/ without his iconic coats in front of anyone but Mokuba. Not only that, But Mokuba is also the only person he shares his clothing with. To me, this reinforces the idea that his coat is his armor. because Mokuba is the only, if not one of the few people he wants to protect. The only person who he is unguarded with, and instead extends his "armor" towards.
Tumblr media
Kaiba is all about power, drama and even theatrics at times. Everyone can see that. It is indeed reflected in his style. But I think his clothes reveal a bit more about his self image and overarching ideas.
He is not the only ygo character who treats clothes as a sort of armor to face the outside world. I think Yuugi's leather vest and chains and all his punkish paraphernalia are also a kind of armor for him. That's why I think he wears them less as the series goes on and his style in DSOD is more light, breezy and comfortable looking.
So long story short, I think the white coat is an excellent design choice for him. Maybe I read to much into it, maybe I didn't. I just love this guy and his obnoxious outfits.
🦖 Not really
🦕 For the most part, I hate kids' media while little (bluey is the exception). I don't listen to Disney, I dont listen to nursery rhymes. Mostly I watch horror movies and listen to my alt music. Also I don't talk at all (not even a baby voice). I actually don't make any noise at all, not even humming or grunting. I just sit with a paci in my mouth and get whatever I want myself.
🧸Yu-Gi-Oh! (Both while big and little)
🐙 Yu-Gi-Oh and scary stuff
🦈 Wooden blocks and the Ikea Shark (I can't remember how to spell his name)
🐠 I have a snake, but no he doesn't.
🐟 I'm not sure. It just happens.
🐡 Coloring or napping probably lol (very lazy baby)
🦑 Mac n Cheese
🦞 Uhhhh probably hanging out with my little friends and coloring. I really domt do much while little. I'm very boring.
🐁 A Pirate/Bones themed room with lost of soft things
🐕 mmm probably either Aziraphale, Martin Blackwood, or Seto Kaiba
🐈‍⬛️ Bud, bucko, gremlin, or Buddy
🐅 Coloring (is that a game? Probably not but oh well)
🐆 Oversized (about 3xl) pirate sweater (soft), fuzzy pajama pants, soft (but not fuzzy) socks, and my paci held on with a clip incase I accidentally drop it
🐕‍🦺 I have one but we've never had a playdate
🐕 very different. When little, I'm a lot less likely to put up with stuff. I won't say anything, but if looks could kill, that two year old would be brandishing a weapon. And I (when big) love Disney music and cartoons.
Making my own agere ask game!! Ft. My favorite emojis hehe ✨
🐙 What type of shows do you like while regressed?
i’ve sat on these long enough and so we have some of my YGO-DM next gen chara sheets! feel free to ask about them, and there’s basic info under the cut:
Yuko (peachship kidlet):
Has a younger sister (and possibly a brother, both who are currently still being worked on!)
While she loves dueling, she also loves karaoke and dancing games; she can play multiple instruments.
She’s socially awkward and a social butterfly all in one, haha! Yuko is one of those people who’s open and friendly with those she knows, but gets really shy when placed in large crowds.
Her deck is Magician Girls, with Quintet Magician being her ace monster.
The heart-shaped pendant on her bracelet is super important to her, even though it was an anonymous gift left on her desk one holiday. There’s a lot of care that went into making it, and Yuko can appreciate the craftsmanship. It’s also seems to be a puzzle locket too, but Yuko hasn’t figured out how to solve it without potentially breaking it; when she’s stressed, she can be seen tinkering with it.
Risa (polarship kidlet):
Currently an only child, but very much the Mom friend.
She’s very outgoing and confident, a perfect blend of her parents! That includes her temper too xD
She has known how to drive a stick shift since she was twelve, and she’s known how to throw a punch for even longer. Risa isn’t afraid to get into a fight if it’s to protect family and her friends.
When it comes to appearance, Risa is a girl who can do both. She’s your go to for makeup tips, but she’s also fond of ratty sneakers and casual clothes.
She uses a Red Eyes/Amazoness based deck, with her trademark monster being Red Eyes Slash Dragon.
She has been dating Tadashi since middle school and they have a surprisingly healthy (if not absolutely secret) relationship. In their friend group, there’s only one other person who knows they’re dating.
Tadashi (lol idk yet):
He’s an adopted kiddo, but no less loved! He challenged Kaiba to a chess match when Kaiba was visiting a KaibaCorp sponsored orphanage. Tadashi didn’t win, but Kaiba still adopted him anyways: “You could always stand to improve, and you obviously can’t do that here.”
Tadashi will NOPE out of any situation involving bugs. He can appreciate their function and their beauty, but he doesn’t like them at all and will quite literally speedwalk out of a room to get away from them.
Tadashi uses a deck that’s Blue Eyes themed, but he doesn’t have the actual Blue Eyes in his deck; his trademark monster is a version of what will one day become known as Azure Eyes Silver Dragon.
He’s fond of watching really bad sci-fi movies, but only with friends so that he can poke fun at them and laugh; he can’t watch them by himself without cringing.
He and Risa have their act down to a science and bicker quite a bit in public, but in private they’re actually super chill and can spend hours in each other’s company.
Rowen (fortuitship kidlet):
Has a younger sister, and possibly an adopted brother....but shhhh no spoilers yet.
Since his mom is friends with Mai (to Raphael’s dismay), Rowen practically grew up alongside Risa and Yuko. This is also how Rowen knows Risa is dating Tadashi, though he wishes he didn’t because Risa for the final time you don’t have to threaten me with forgotten secrets of my past, I won’t tell anyone.
Rowen’s archtype in Duel Monsters is Guardians, largely in part because of his father. He does in fact use copies of his father’s guardians in his deck (though not the actual cards themselves - those are too important to his father).
Rowen loves to craft and dabbles in everything from sewing to mechanic work to metal working; the necklace he wears has his immediate family’s initials on it, and he did that himself and maybe that’s a hint for something i mentioned earlier ha.
He’s very chill and personable, but if he has to he can be Serious and holds a Quiet Authority in times of crisis. Thankfully, there’s not that many instances we have to see Serious!Rowen.
