I see the "protests are supposed to be disruptive" dragged out a lot for protests that are just disruptive. Protests certainly can be disruptive, but they're also supposed to do something.

Israel said Thursday it was moving forward with controversial plans to build thousands of new housing units in the occupied West Bank, a development far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said would “permanently bury the idea of a Palestinian state.”
The E1 settlement project, frozen for decades because of vociferous international opposition, would connect Jerusalem to the settlement of Maale Adumim, making a future Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem virtually impossible. It would also split the West Bank in half, preventing the establishment of a contiguous Palestinian state.
“They will talk about a Palestinian dream, and we will continue to build a Jewish reality,” Smotrich said. “This reality is what will permanently bury the idea of a Palestinian state, because there is nothing to recognize and no one to recognize.”
Yisrael Gantz, head of the Yesha Council, which advocates for Jewish settlements in the West Bank, the occupied Golan Heights and Gaza, celebrated the plans.
“We are on a historic morning that brings us one additional step closer to the vision of sovereignty,” Gantz said. “We are exercising our historical right to the land of our ancestors.”

You there! Federal museum professional educator or FEMA climatologist or NOAA metereologist or CISA cybersecurity specialist or Army civilian logistics employee. How would you like to work for ICE? No? Not interesting? You’re working for ICE now. You’re working for ICE or you’re quitting. You don’t get a choice. You’re an ICE brown shirt or you’re out of a job.
This is not hyperbole. This is happening across the entire United States government.

I recently published my mapmaking tool 'Canvas of Kings', made with: Godot 4.x, Vulkan, 3D, GDScript only.
I love Godot with GDScript and can only recommend it to everyone! :)

even when i'm alone, i've always felt this subtle kindness and patience emanating from objects and structures around me. when i was at my worst, both in my childhood and now, i'd look around and realize i was indeed not alone
being driven home at dusk i'd see the trees break to reveal a line of massive transmission towers leading up the hill, standing tall and stoic, unreadable and complex in their design, like silent angels–i'd feel their presence over me even as we drove out of sight of their soft blinking lights
the store i entered when i was feeling scared and upset was sympathetic to me, reassuring me with the buzz of the florescent lights and giving me comforting distractions from whatever i was thinking about
the world is very hard to deal with sometimes but knowing there's these presences all around me, willing to extend kindness toward me, even if we see each other once and never again, makes me feel at ease

i think we should all try to spend less time reading the words of stupid people we hate, and if we find some stupid people we hate on the internet, we should generally try not to share their words with each other (in the form of screenshots, etc). possible exceptions for stupid people we hate who hold immense worldly power. but even then it should be particularly funny or important

A gag that I came up with years ago, but never found a good opportunity to deploy, is a guy who "doesn't believe in immigration," not in the sense that he's a nativist but in the sense he literally doesn't believe that it happens, because his personal ontology is that nothing outside the territorial borders of the United States of America actually exists, everything you see on the other side of the border is an SCP-3930 style collective hallucination, and that anyone who "crosses the border" is actually being created ex-nihilo that very moment and imbued with years of subjective experience; consequentially he believes that all people physically present in America definitionally have birthright citizenship and therefore ICE should be abolished

I feel I've seen a lot of people saying "data centres use a lot of water" but that becomes so much more meaningful if you add "for evaporative cooling as it cuts costs by 4%" or whatever, then you know what they use the water for (to cool the machines) and where the water goes afterwards (into the air / down the drain) and why it's used in this way (reduces electricity usage, cheaper).
you can then look at the tradeoffs involved: how much water is available? what other uses are there? how is it priced to incentivize the most efficient and productive use? etc. etc. but even just adding the three words "for evaporative cooling" would be good journalism as it would convey more understanding of how stuff actually works and how we might make it work better.

Ppl make fun of that genre of horny post where words are different colors but I actually think it’s funnier that this website even has customizable text colors, something most social media does not have, and that’s like the only thing ppl use it for

they teach you in school like "some people like vanilla and some people like chocolate" or "some people like blondes and some like brunettes" but i don't think anyone actually had these sorts of atomic preferences? On the other hand, a lot of people seem to believe that they do have them, and self-report as such, which I think has more to do with the person they expect themselves to be rather than the person they actually are. And we assign quite a lot of weight to this notion of a distinctive personal identity as expressed by these statements of preferences, but I think we don't fully appreciate how little it corresponds with reality.
like you could imagine a boy who incorporates a belief into his identity at age 7, entirely due to happenstance, that he likes blonde girls, and then he goes on throughout his schooldays to have a few dates with blonde-haired women and even some of those short teenage relationships that never last, along with an even more numerous variety of close intimate friendships with brown and red-haired women. but he never allows the latter to develop any farther than that because. he likes blonde girls. and he complains to you one night about his lack of success in love, and you suggest some names of mutual acquaintances you think might be into him but. he likes blonde girls. who are you to tell him what his preferences are? and because he's been drinking you let it pass, until after the third round when he lets slip that his first kiss was actually with a redhead in middle school and he still thinks about her sometimes and nothing else ever happened because. he likes blonde girls. and you start to notice a pattern, that he never talks about any woman with blonde hair in quite the same way as that redhead, rather his eyes dull and he tenses up and then after he says his vile bit about how she wronged him by not loving him back he inevitably mutters to himself that. he likes blonde girls
