5. Out of all your fanworks that include [Salieri], which is your favourite?

Oh god im at work, i cant go looking for Salieri art lmaoooo but this is might be my fave. It is the cover of a Salieri anthology done by the JP fandom, and if you want to go looking for it, I believe the title is Absolute Kapellmeister or something to that effect. It’s a wonderful fan effort, and im very lucky to have it lol (flex flex)

12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?

I feel like Im very vanilla when it comes to crazy AUs lol. I do like flinging the concept of servant summoning into other shows/franchises; it’s always fun to think about what servant a certain character would get.

I think my funniest idea is have is for a story I would eventually like to write which has Mozart bodyswap/Freaky Friday situation with a young woman, and he has to live her life which is a bit too similar to what his late sister Nannerl went through, and he is SUPREMELY uncomfortable about it.

22. Give us a headcanon for [Salieri]?

HMMM. I think Salieri has a great taste in fashion, but it’s the kind of fashion that makes you look sleek and sophisticated, and he knows the good fashion brands as well. He hates the dress Jalter (the formal stomach revealing one) wears and subtly keeps recommending other dresses for her to wear (which she does!) but then when the Dress gets worn again, he has to look away bc he finds it so unflattering lmao.

The claim of that post—“people have gotten tired of unrelenting grimdark” e.g. actual DC main runs and therefore prefer “slice-of-life fluff [that] also presents a coherent, easy-to-enter, balanced storyline” e.g. WFA—is directionally accurate but its also sort of talking about a Different Group of People than DC Comics Readers.

in particular there is a group of people who have been pretty much totally deracinated from developing or being capable of developing their own opinions on media or humor or life. because of social media and maybe also they r very young. there is a general valence to that part of fandom: the incorrect quotes, the Canva-post-derived politics, the memetic vocab + jokes and like this weird very limited view of redditizedhistory and culture+literature consisteing of the binding of Isaac and twoheadedcalf poem. and so there is just genuinely not the ability to process things that haven’t been run through a filter of accessibility. and WFA, which has BEAUTIFUL art and lots of very sweet moments, IS super accessible and its also sort of been through the preapproved foundfamily neoliberal kitsch machine and come out with a passing grade. but yes it is missing that like elusive Something and it also lacks a seriousness and it isnt the Characters. it’s something else. And its so pretentious to say its for people who don’t have the like stamina ??? for longerform storytelling but yes if you pressed me i would say its a bunch of people, primarily young genz and millennial girls/women, whose critical mental faculties and attention spans have been fried by social media and underexposure to challenging original content

that’s a different new group being lassoed into dc stuff from the previous existing audience. The DC Comics Reader People. i don’t know how much of this to do gender politics with but comics fandom has DEFINITELY gotten MUCH more female in the last 2 decades and there was a distinctive male comic book go-to-the-LCS-and-get-physical-copies and rigorously-autisticslly-fight-about-minutia-of-canon culture. Men also r going to be the one who GENERALLY prefer your fightheavy “”””grimdark””” comics, as opposed to women who doooo generally prefer social relational content. And also women-dominated comics fandom spaces are obviously qualitatively different from men’s fandom spaces. So PART of the reason WFA outsells real DC stuff is market distortion and PART is the DCfan genderdemographic shift that favors content like WFA

I rly hesitate to endorse a lot of Canon dc tumblr’s posts about the fanony WFA-style stuff bc it seems so clear that a the latter is enjoyed primarily by a group of very young people and it also feels like there’s a weird power imbalance intellectually between fanon and canon people. AND I AM A BIG BELIEVER IN LET PEOPLE READ AND ENJOY THE CONTENT THEY WANT and they shouldn’t be shamed for enjoying something as visually sweet and cute as WFA. and a lot of canon tumblr’s rants abt fanon stuff r clearly sort of excessively vicious and insecure attempts to feel superior. although admittedly quietly they r correct but it comes off cruel idk. also i think that BATMAN and superman and to some extent some others ARE indeed very flexible in terms of what is canon and what you have to consume to have consumed The Character and The Story. ive never seen BTAS but as far as im concerned, someone who has only watched BTAS is someone who has the right to do whatever batman stuff they want.

Related questions are: Is mainline DC batman stuff GOOD right now? and Is WFA good? I agree that mainline DC stuff isnt the best right now and i haven’t read WFA so i can’t comment on its quality but i honestly don’t think its the case that “WFA is better written than actual Batman comics, so thats why WFA is more popular” lol

Canela continues to laugh nervously, trying to laugh off the moment as her own thoughts race in her head. What do I do, what do I do now! A sharp, pulsing pain quickly enters her head, causing her to groan and hold her head. She tries to shake it off only to be met with a dark, foreboding voice that whispers into her mind.

Canela’ shallow breathing transitions into slower breaths, as she concentrates to drown out the voice that torments her mind. Her spatula fizzes and sparkles, changing in hues as she chants a familiar song repeatedly to herself. One. Chill. Two. Chill. Three. Chill. Four. Open your eyes and worry no more. 

After a couple minutes, she brings the spatula close to her mouth, giving it a gentle peck as a glimmer of light starts to glow faintly. Canela raises it high and takes a long, deep breath. The tip of the utensil glows brighter, lighting up the area like a lamp piercing through its dark corners.

From her mouth, a thin light follows the breath as she exhales. As it floats out, the breath glows as if strings of light trail out and around the spatula. As soon as the strip reaches the orb, it expands and swells. Soon after, the light flares out from the spatula, and wisps of light and magic swirl around Canela and Charade.

The braixen mumbles a command and the light fades from around the girls, and disappears from Canela's tool. She straightens up from her bow slowly, and stretches her arms over her head while a big smile spread on her face. She then continues to stuff her spatula back into her tail, before planting her paws on her hips and saying quite loudly,

"Damn, that felt GOOD!!!"

Brad is caught in the rain often. Too often, to be honest. How he keeps forgetting his umbrella is beyond him. How Lloyd keeps remembering is, well, standard. Not really that impressive. Brad tells him this. Lloyd laughs. “‘Scuse you,” he says. “I’ll kick you out of my umbrella.” “Sure.” Brad snuggles closer, looping his arm through Lloyd’s. “Here, you’re holding it too low.” Brad takes the umbrella from him as Lloyd grumbles something about trees and lampposts. He holds it up a bit, so it no longer hits him in the head, and Lloyd smiles, pecking his cheek. The streets are nearly empty. It’s late, and they’re on the way back from a show. It was a good show, Brad thought. Lloyd’s been a bit more critical. They walk in a comfortable silence, only the rain tip-tapping on the umbrella, the occasional gust of wind. A rather strong one takes Brad by surprise, yanking the umbrella from his hand and sending it flying down the street. The silence suddenly grows tense. “Well?” Lloyd says. “Go get it.” Brad laughs, but the expression on Lloyd’s face tells him he isn’t amused. “Oh, I’ll buy you a new one,” Brad says, laughing. He tugs Lloyd to an overhang, brushing the wet curls from his face. And Lloyd laughs. Laughs his beautiful laugh. “You butthead!” he says. “I loved that umbrella!” “Why? Because it was green?” Brad says. “Oh, shut up.” Lloyd giggles. In response, Brad says “Let’s make a run for it.” And, at once, they run into the rain, laughing as they do. They end up soaked, by the time they reach their apartment. Brad pauses, grabbing Lloyd’s hand and pulling him out into the rain once more before they go inside. “Hey!” Lloyd laughs. “We’re right there!” “Sorry,” Brad says, smiling. And he leans down and kisses him. The rain beats against his back, and he’s pretty sure he can hear thunder rumbling in the distance, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

oh man WHERE TO FUCKING BEGIN. he!! he's such a smug little shitlord and it's one of my favorite dosto psychological archetypes, a character who feels so different from everyone else & so isolated that they end up feeling better than everyone (e.g. smarter, like smerd's bit about the creation myth) while also worse than everyone (e.g. smerd's deep insecurity about his social standing esp compared to his brothers, idolizing ivan). he's just the Are you tired of being nice? Don't you just want to go ape shitt? meme a little bit. also he's just a weird little control freak. i love my lil bouillon boy.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

FAVORITE is hard omg. i really love that he plays guitar and sings in falsetto........ he's just a little guy!!! and the line. the fucking line. "I exterminate my life by my own will and inclination, in order to blame no one." what a raw fucking line. and such a concise statement of pavel as a character, who spends the entire novel fighting to exercise his free will and establish his agency as a human being in the eyes of everyone around him through any means possible, and then he only finally gets the power he wants so badly by weaponizing the societal perceptions of him he hates so much (at first fyodor pavlovich only gives half a fuck about him when he starts having fits, then later on he gets away with murder by affirming their views of him as epileptic/weak, stupid, cowardly, "just a lackey", etc etc ive ranted abt this before). smerdyakov get behind me. he did nothing wrong

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

i mean. it's gotta be the killing small animals as a child right. like we can agree on that. that's not cool baby pavel. (to be fair though. it's also interesting symbolically as a reflection of his power struggle throughout his lifetime—even as a kid he was looking for creatures with even less power than he so he could feel like he was in control of something for once, which then turned to obsession over food, arguing with his father/master, murder, etc. Wish he didn't have to kill cats about it though !)

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

oooooo hmmmmm. this probably doesn't count as a headcanon but i do want him and katya to talk shit about ivan just once. i just KNOW they'd get his ass. also not to be predictable but i absolutely hc him as gay and not even in the im just making everyone gay bc i am way, in a 100% serious this-is-a-valid-interpretation-of-the-text way. i just think his utter lack of interest in women, alienation from society, insecurity about being Born Wrong, distaste for religion (esp. how illogical it is), etc is so very gaycoded. also that line about fyodor pavlovich offering to set him up with a girl to marry: "'Perhaps you ought to marry some girl, do you want me to find you one?' But this kind of talk would only make Smerdyakov turn pale with annoyance, and he would not reply." (tr. mcduff) like that was me on thanksgiving when my aunt asked if i had a boyfriend yet im sorry!!
