I don’t know if you’d want that. Reading it would belike one of those mind-warping moments where there is no return to the innocent you.

My understanding is that it was really messed up. According to Hardwicke, the early script wasn’t even close to the novel: “[Bella] was a track star in the first scene, not an every-girl kind of awkward and clumsy [kid]... she was like a bad ass, and then it escalated into this whole thing where there were CIA agents on jet skis trying to find the vampires, you know. It really went, 'Whooooo!' She was not working for the CIA, but it was a different movie.”

She knew the book was more about falling in love for the first time and all the crazy things you do when you fall. She knew that doing the movie the way MTV wanted to do it would be like a slap in the face to the fans of the book.

And that is why I love Catherine Hardwicke, Melissa Rosenberg, and Summit Entertainment for being as true to the material as they could. I’m their stan forever.
