If You've Got It, Haunt It

Summary:

Honestly, the costume makes no sense, seeing as the haunted house Alex waves people into resembles neither a circus nor a house. It's some slap-shod mom-and-pop maze on an acre of property usually reserved for a kitschy, family-friendly pumpkin patch, called Haunt-O-Stroll (name pending). When the permits fell through for hayrides, the owners converted the paths into a walking route next to old shacks, overgrown hedges, and the half-dismantled backdrops from the local high school's production of Beetlejuice. Alex had asked during his job interview—they insisted on conducting them, even if he didn't hear of anyone who was actually turned away from the part-time gig—what the theme was. Mr. Richards said scary. Scary is more of a lifestyle than the theme, but Alex didn't correct him. Maybe he should have.

Or: Alex is a scare actor at the local haunted attraction and keeps scaring this one guy who should absolutely not be there (but keeps coming back?)

This is based on a song from one of my favourite bands called elevator love letter:

Henry’s office is on the twelfth floor of a skyscraper in Canary Wharf. There’s plenty of other offices, plenty of other people, plenty of other lost souls just like him who all make their way here every single day. Day in, day out; commute to and from the building, ride up and down the elevators. Every single bloody day. The routine is, to be frank, exhausting. And that doesn’t even include the actual work of it all.

Announcement

As some of you know, I have been on a hiatus due to medical issues. Thankfully, my doctors have found a treatment that makes it bearable to sit at my computer and write again. But unfortunately, with my auto-immune disease, my body is no longer physically able to continue to work. And here in the United States, getting any kind of disability benefits takes years and is an unnecessarily long and arduous process. So, I'm reinstating my Patreon. As I've had to quit my job, I need to do this to supplement the income the hubby brings in because, in this economy now, it is just needed. I will be posting all my fics, including the ones for bingos, on there first and to Tumblr a few weeks later.

I have three different tiers with different benefits. The lowest one just $3 a month. If you can't afford to join, I understand, trust me. But if you can, it will be greatly appreciated! alright alright alright - so i'm getting this done now and using the tags i already got tonight thanks ever so much @theprinceandagcd & @priincebutt (and also for the sunday tag nico) 💚

i'm still on my southern philanthropy or liam/pez one night stand fic so that's what we're getting

Liam motions with his head toward the bar, and Percy nods; he feels Percy’s hand in his, and before he knows it, they’re in a roped-off area with its own bar. Percy leads him to a table with bottles of water and a bottle of some top-shelf whiskey with glasses on the table. Liam takes the water he’s handed and opens it, taking a swig as he watches Percy pour a couple of fingers into a glass for each of them over a couple of ice cubes. It’s interesting because he only knows two other people who drink it this exact way. Actually, he thinks it’s this exact brand; Henry’s made Alex’s taste in whiskey even more expensive than it used to be. It’s definitely not the Maker’s Mark they used to sneak in high school. The whiskey tastes smooth on his tongue, and Liam thinks about how other things might taste as well as he watches Percy’s mouth around the rim of his glass. As Percy’s tongue catches the drop of whiskey left on it when he pulls away his glass, he wonders what it might be like to follow that tongue with his own and chase the taste of the expensive whiskey into his mouth. He’s thinking about his tongue in Percy’s mouth as Percy says something he misses in his contemplation. The smirk Percy sends him alerts him to the fact that he missed something, and he pulls himself back to the moment and says, “I’m sorry, what was that?” “I was just wondering what you thought of the whiskey; from what I understand, whiskey is one of those things you southern boys drink; well, based on the accent, I’m assuming southern.” “Yeah, Texas.” “Huh, Texas boys and their whiskey, I guess,” Percy mutters under his breath and shrugs. Liam briefly wonders what he means by that but lets it slide for now. Maybe he’ll remember to ask later.

“Fair enough.” Alex steered the car left at the proper turn and glanced sideways with another bright grin. “Happy now, Your Royal Highness?”

Alex opens his mouth, though how he plans to respond, he’s not certain. Before any words come to mind, though, his phone slips through his hand, bouncing onto his shoe before landing on the tile between them. Alex kneels down to pick it up, momentarily saved from forming a reply. His brain’s still coming up empty, though, when Henry speaks again. “You might as well suck my cock while you’re down there.” Alex whips his head up to make sure he didn’t just imagine those words coming out of Henry’s mouth. He’s prevented from pinching himself when Henry adds, “It’ll be good practice, looking up at me.”

Six Sentence Sunday!

Emerging from the depths of the land of the uninspired, exhausted muses, Val is here to share a little bit of writing from a WIP that is close to being finished, but isn't quite there just yet. The wheels have started to turn once more, so I'm hoping by sharing this and getting some validation from y'all, it might just give the muse the push she needs to get back in the game.

No tags as of 10:30 PM ET when I'm about to schedule this, so I'm going to start us off, and if someone tags me between now and midnight ET, I'm sorry in advance haha.

“Turns out attempting to suck my brain out through my dick is pretty fucking sobering because I want to commit it to the long term memory bank, so I’m fine,” he assures, and Henry believes him. The laser focus in his brown eyes, a look that Henry recognizes all too well. He’s seen it in the middle of the night, gazing back at him from the office where Alex was hunched over his laptop and surrounded by a pile of law books. He’s seen it in the kitchen, Alex’s tongue sticking out from between his lips as he attempts one of his abuela’s recipes. And he’s seen it in Kensington Palace, what might as well be in another lifetime now, lighting the midnight dark and filling Henry with a hope that he didn’t feel he deserved for a life that he is now living. “And I want it. I want you.”

It’s weird, and it makes something in Alex’s jaw hurt. “Oh shit, it’s late and I know we have Bea’s piano recital in the morning. Should probably go to bed, yeah?” Alex pulls his shirt off and slides under the covers before yanking it down on Henry’s side for him, an invitation. Henry doesn’t move, though—instead, he’s chewing his bottom lip and staring at the floor, pointedly not looking at Alex.

Or, five times childhood best friends Alex and Henry share a bed platonically, and the one time (of many) they do as something more.

Henry gazes down at the dusty maps, the faded lines he and his father had drawn connecting the points, the scrawled notes out to the side, more passion imbued into these old papers than any of his work at the station. It feels as if he’s showing Alex a piece of his own heart on the page, his throat tight and face warm. 

“I know they aren’t perfect, but—” 

“This one,” Alex points to a spot before he can finish, gazing at the map longingly. “This is my home.” 

The breath catches in his throat. 

“Orion,” Henry breathes.

WIP Wednesday

HELLO. Yes, hi. It's me. Queuing this one up early! It's been a while and I miss y'all. Writing was a real big struggle because work was Bad™—but I'm back-ish and working on a few things, including this flufftober prompt which was "haunted house". Coming this Friday (because that's the day of the prompt), scare actor Alex continues to be really bad (and really good?) at his job, especially with this one guy who keeps coming back:

Don't run, don't run, don't run. Alex thinks as if he could telepathically command this stranger, this stupidly beautiful stranger, to stay. Exchange names, maybe. Like the absolute bare minimum. He's been here enough times; it's the most committed relationship Alex has been in. The guy recovers, opens his mouth to maybe say actual words that aren't just terrorized squawking noises, and then—Nora fucking ruins it. Shit, he nearly forgot she was with him. She springs out from behind Alex, like they planned their joint-scare, a practiced bait-and-switch. The problem is: Nora surprises him, and Alex howls out a truly unmanly shout, which just dominoes the whole situation because the guy also shouts because Alex did, which means Bea unexpectedly screams, and then everyone is screaming, and it's a mess. God, Alex is so bad at his job.

Holy shit, I can't believe it's been almost a month since I had something to share...

Thank you for all the tags though!!! I feel like I've been going through the motions in a haze since the summer ended.

And special thanks to @iboatedhere for the tag today after an epic day of finishing not one but two WIPs yesterday (but only one I can share right now, as the other is for @anywhere-with-you-event).

So here are some sentences from my upcoming @flufftober piece for the October 30th prompt "Forever?". Somehow both of my pieces ended up involving the sweet pup David 🐶

As they walked through the park to the off-leash area where David loved to run free and fetch sticks (and other people’s balls, dog toys, sticks they threw to their own dogs, etc), they would always use the time to touch base with each other. Sometimes it was about mundane things like bill payments or vet appointments or what groceries they needed that week. Other times their conversations veered towards more fun topics, like the latest work drama, vacation ideas, or party invites. 

Today, however, it was a combination of the two as they were discussing the necessity to visit Henry’s family in London for Christmas, including his crotchety old grandmother. She was by far the worst person in either of their families, maybe on Planet Earth, and they usually tried to avoid her at all costs, as a general life rule. She was racist and homophobic, which meant she completely disapproved of their relationship, so never seeing her was honestly fine with them, given that they lived on another continent with an entire ocean separating them. She was also the reason that Henry had moved to New York in the first place, so maybe Alex should be thanking her in some weird roundabout way?

I'm sharing another snippet from my untitled Berlin missing scene WIP! Y'all seemed really excited about this one, and I am, too.

When Alex finally pulls back, he brushes his thumb across Henry’s swollen bottom lip, pink and shining with spit. Henry presses a soft kiss to the tip before sucking it into his mouth, and their eyes quickly lock together. Henry’s pupils are wide and his breath is already becoming labored.

This, Alex thinks, is the sight he’s been dying to see. Something about the sight of picture-perfect, poised and polished Prince Henry losing composure always does it for Alex. When he gets this version of Henry, it feels like he’s been trusted with a tremendous secret. 

Alex ducks his head forward and brings his lips to brush against Henry’s cheek. Maybe it’s a little bit too tender for what they are, but he doesn’t dwell on it, moving to press firm kisses along Henry’s chiseled jaw. Alex can’t help but smile against Henry’s skin when he hears a sharp intake of breath close to his ear. 

“Feeling okay?” Alex asks with sincerity. He knows that Henry is enjoying this but is mindful of the vulnerable dynamic at play tonight. This isn’t only about the two of them feeling good. Alex wants to make sure Henry feels safe, too.
