Taking Dictation
The ad was simple, running in such a nondescript fashion that she almost missed it, down at the bottom of the screen - plain black text on a gray background, so bland it was almost painful.
Help Wanted: Skilled Secretary. Seeking an experienced secretary proficient in dictation and transcription. Must adhere to a strict dress code based on long-term function; excellent communication skills required. Submit a resume online or text ‘SUBMIT’ to 67678.
She thought about it for a moment.
Everyone at Hamilton & Greene was amazing - except, of course, for Ms Hamilton and Mr Greene - and she liked the fact that it was a short ten minute drive from her apartment.
But….
The pay was terrible, the transition to the new ‘paperless’ system was a nightmare, and Eric still stunk so bad it was hard to go past his cubicle, even after Linda had a private conference with him. Everyone was overstressed and overworked, and with the lease coming due in two months there’d still been no word on whether they were moving offices, again.
Maybe it was time for a change, or at least time to scare everyone into thinking they’d have to go without her. She glanced back, but the ad and the link were gone - so, she picked up her phone, and texted
“Submit”
to 67678, just like the ad said, and in seconds a reply popped up - a link, and she tapped it.
The page was similarly subdued, but it had all the information she wanted. The posting was as thorough and painstakingly specific as the job was straightforward - a freelance IT professional and technical writer needed a secretary that could help him run both his businesses. The only item that wasn’t extensively clarified was the dress code, but if it meant she’d be expected to be professional in front of clients, she wasn’t worried.
She opened her resume, and skimmed it to make sure that it was current before she uploaded it; the next page simply read, “Thank you for your application”, and she stared at the phone for a moment in disbelief that it’d been that easy.
By Tuesday, she'd forgotten about it, not least because of the fight that Mr Greene and Ms Hamilton were in over the Friemann case, and hearing that it meant bonuses were delayed had her trying not to cry in her car on her lunch break
The phone dinged - a text, from 67678, letting her know that her resume had been accepted.
And, seconds later, a text from a number she didn’t recognize. For an interview: 10AM or 11AM Thursday, or 10AM Friday?
She took a deep breath and steadied her hands. 10 on Friday would be perfect! she texted back, and got ready to head back into the office.
The interview, and everything leading up to it, was a blur in her mind.
She had taken Friday off, calling in sick late the night before, and had spent a good hour longer than usual getting ready so that she looked sharp for her interview.
It was at his residence, about a half hour’s drive away; she was on her way with plenty of time, and as much as she’d hate the commute, it was a nice upscale neighborhood, and on the map it looked like it was next to a park that she could walk to on breaks.
When she arrived, though, all she could focus on was him. She didn’t remember walking in, taking off her jacket, or even what his name was - she was lost in those eyes, and in the sound of his voice.
He was busy, he explained, too busy to keep up without assistance. He was employed and was about to be over-employed twice over, and there was just no time - his hands were too full. His previous assistant had gotten pregnant, and was looking for a change. She had all the right qualifications to replace her, and to perform even better in her role; she was an expert in taking dictation.
The pay he was offering was almost double what she was making - and, she would be free to use one of the bedroom suites downstairs, whenever she wanted - and she was so excited that she almost forgot to ask about the uniform requirement.
Almost.
She’d asked, and he’d chuckled, and she felt herself get wet. He’d said something - she couldn’t remember exactly what - and she’d flushed further. She’d followed him downstairs to one of the bedrooms - to her bedroom - and showed her the corset and stockings that were carefully laid out.
The mix of arousal and astonishment and disbelief must’ve shown on her face. She didn’t have time to protest or ask questions before he was talking again, and she couldn’t help but melt into his voice.
He wasn’t just a technical writer, he explained. He also wrote erotica, very successfully, and it was crucial to his process to have inspiration on hand, and reference material available. He was sure that she’d be a perfect fit for her role, all she needed to do was embrace it…
Six weeks in, and she was adapting extremely well to her role.
She rolled lazily out of bed - out of his bed - and quietly made her way downstairs to her room, where she stripped out of yesterday’s uniform and got ready for a quick shower. After last week’s shopping trip, she had everything here that she needed.
That was another reason she hadn’t been to her apartment since last month. Drying her hair, she emerged from her on-suite bathroom in a cloud of steam and immediately set to getting ready.
By the time he was coming downstairs to the office, she was dressed - in black today, the set she’d decided she liked the most - she was already there, their coffees in hand, ready to start the day.
Today he had meetings all through the morning - so she sat at her desk and started working through the notes from the previous day. He was midway through a support call when he hit a button and his desk raised up so he could stand. As soon as he was comfortably standing, she knelt on the cushion in front of him and unzipped his fly, pulling out his cock.
She loved his cock. She got lost in his eyes, and his voice made her melt, but after the first time she saw his cock - on her fifth day, the first time he’d fingered her for reference, while dictating to her. She’d been dizzy, between the sensations of him ruthlessly stimulating her g-spot and  trying to keep up with the rapid pace of his words, and didn’t notice he was jacking off until he grunted softly.
She’d looked back, then - into his eyes, first, those hypnotic pools of gray, and only when he glanced down had her haze followed and - it was perfect, long, thick, throbbing, a drop of precum dripping from the tip as he gently stroked it. She’d begged him to fuck her, that later that afternoon, and that was the first night she’d spent at the office, working late.
And the best part - or the worst part, or the hardest part - was that he did expect her to work, despite it all. The uniform, she found, not only kept her on display and accessible, but she felt sexier in it, and even the heels were comfortable too, somehow - but it didn’t make it any easier to be bent over his desk, cockwarming him while he rattled off erotica to her to transcribe. She had to make sure his notes and files got organized, even if she was asked to bounce on a dildo for reference. She had to balance his schedules and make sure his emails were dealt with, even if she chose to spend the morning on her knees trying to distract him while he was on a call.
Four months in, and she was starting to put a few things together.
Sir kept assigning her more hypnosis to review, and no matter how good it felt to spend hours on his desk, fulfilling her role, she was only barely keeping up with the notes, and the scheduling, and taking his dick-tation - she giggled, now, whenever she thought of it like that - was even more intense now that he’d started writing a lot of breeding stories.
She also barely ever slept in her own bed anymore. He liked having her close - for inspiration, he said - but he also liked picking a hole to use to satisfy himself in the middle of the night, and filling her up with another load.
She wasn’t complaining, of course - she would do it even if she wasn’t getting paid - but her birth control pills had vanished from the cabinet, and she couldn’t help but notice that over the next few months the scheduled titles were starting to shift from breeding into pregnancy stories.
A year into her employment and six months into her pregnancy, deskpet was starting to worry.
She was falling behind now, everything was taking more and more time. The hypnos had made deskpet much, much happier, and now she barely had thoughts at all besides the ones that Sir put in her brain for her to use - but it meant that typing was harder, and now when she was cockwarming or taking dick-tation - she giggled - all she wanted to do was go blank and fulfill her role of serving his cock.
But he worked so hard, and he deserved help - more help than she could give.
She thought about it for a while, and set about posting an ad.
‘Help Wanted: Skilled Secretary’ the ad began….

Ep 8
[School Bell Ringing]
Ms. Baalman: Alright class, today we're going to dive into quadratic equations. Can anyone remind me what the standard form of a quadratic equation is?
[chatter]
Ms. Baalman: Yes, that's right, we'll start by reviewing how to solve these using factoring. Remember, factoring is just one of several methods we can use.
[Lizzie is awful at math]
[door opens Caleb walks in nonchalant]
Ms. Baalman: Excuse me Mr. Idol, school isn't your personal playground, you can't just waltz in fifteen minutes late.
Lizzie: [whispering] oh god, why is he in this class?!
Caleb: It won't happen again, I'm sorry
Ms. Baalman: I sincerely hope so, for the sake of your grade
Ms. Baalman: Anyways class, half of your grade for this class will go towards your final project, which will be designing and analyzing a theme park ride.
Lizzie: [whispering] Oh, that sounds interesting
Ms. Baalman: This will be a joint effort, you will be partnering up with another student and apply mathematical concepts such as functions, geometry, and statistics to design and analyze a hypothetical theme park ride.
[another student?]
Random student: Excuse me Ms. Baalman, how will we know who our project partner is?
Ms. Baalman: Excellent question, to make this simple your partners will be the student behind you.
Lizzie: BEHIND US?
Creator note: My favorite trope you ask? Well, forced proximity ofcourse. [cackling] Short chapter but next one will be up tomorrow!

Skills You Should Know For The Professional (White-Collar) Workforce
I have primarily only worked in the white collar workforce post-college (I worked as a parts clerk in a factory pre-college but it was for my mom ), so I can only speak to that side of the workforce, but here are some skills that I recommend knowing to go into the workforce:
How to draft a professional email
How to logically structure an argument, both on the overall level (across multiple sections/slides/paragraphs) and on a sentence level
How to draft a grammatically correct sentence (including understanding how to identify common grammatical errors)
How to do basic formatting in MS PowerPoint (e.g., resize, align, find and update Slide Master)
How to do basic functions in MS Excel (e.g., create a formula, create conditional formatting, create a table)
How to do basic formatting in MS Word (e.g., update paragraph spacing, update headers and footers, update table formatting)
How to speak, present ideas, and engage with others in small group settings
How to speak, present ideas, and answer questions in larger group settings

what esoteric, useful features do you find in older versions of MS office products that didn't make it into modern versions?
was there anything they did that should have continued on with newer versions but did not?
They should have continued "buy once own forever" instead of this subscription bullshit. That, and they shouldn't require an Internet connection for things like activation to getting help.
It's not so much of a case of "old versions have better features", it's "new versions change stuff for no reason". I don't like the dialog boxes appearing as sidebars in newer versions, if I right click an object to format it I expect the dialog box to pop up near me, not all the way to the side. Also I never quite got a hang of the ribbon in Publisher, and menus spell functions out better anyway (it took me FOREVER to find out where the format paragraph dialog box was, for example). Also trying to "suggest" what you want to do in ways that seem more invasive than Clippy (who was easily disabled)... no thanks.
Mostly I miss Excel shortcuts when using Excel 5.0 or similar vintage. Office 97 though... yeah I can deal with that a lot easier, especially for word processing. It has everything I need and no uncessary bullshit.

Well tumblr refreshed and I cant find the link again yay me.
Someone shared the Isabel Fall Attack Helicopter story. I dont think I was on twitter when it was published and people drive her off the platform, I only vaguely know the details. Id never read the story before today, to the best of my knowledge.
Y'all its brilliant.
Of course it made people uncomfortable, it tries to, that a function of good art. Its also a Do Not Build The Torment Nexus story. Its really incisive and the prose is so specific in shaping the mood and meaning. Its terrifying. The inciting incident of the short story is blowing up a school which the chatacter doesnt regret, but does reflect on.
Its extremely gender + sex fucky, theres some transhumanist/cyborg/eroticism of the machine going on, theres US imperialism, climate change, AI, war, everything including gender in service of the war (thats the torment nexus part).
It is so full of uncomfortable topics and its weird, and its weird all over its not trying to be palatable and marketable its got something to say and its damn well gonna say it well. (Clarification by it I mean the story. Not the writer.)
I dont know if this was the origin of, or in reaction to, the asshole "well I identify as an attack helicopter" line, but its way more than a bit of reactionary writing. The writer has thought deeply about gender and then asked "ok what if I put it in a totally different context" and it rings so true.
This should be taught as a piece about gender, and also as just a really excellent piece of writing. Im sorry you were bullied off the internet Ms Fall, no one deserves that and you certainly didnt.
I intend to look more into what happened and see if she's written anything since.

LOS ANGELES — CALIFORNIA
DECEMBER 06, 2016
Carter hated Los Angeles.
From its sweltering heat to its crowded streets and inhabitants. He'd only been there two short weeks and was already missing Portland. Not what he would have liked to call home, or the people who were supposed to be his family, but the city itself. The alleys of Japanese maples, the café where he played his first guitar notes in public and, above all, the weather in favor of a snowy Christmas.
Here, the air was stifling and the sun never seemed to take a break. Even sprawled out in his new bed, the atmosphere seemed to descend on him, crushing his chest. Repainting the walls and assembling the furniture had been an ordeal for him. Unlike his sister, who seemed accustomed to the Californian air, Carter was still wiping the corner of his eyebrow and inhaling every second.
In the car, the ordeal was the same. But at least he could enjoy the occasional light breeze. He leaned back, his cap hitting the headrest of the seat, his long legs stretched out to the glove compartment. For someone who has money, he thought, it's definitely no luxury.
— Don said it’s a very good school, reminds Elle, taking her eyes off the road for a second. They have excellent results and programs.
— Yeah, whatever…
Chewing gum wrapped around his tongue, Carter blew until the bubble burst in his face. Elle flinched at the sound though she tried to hide it. She nudged her brother's shoulder, a heavy sigh covering Buddy Guy's voice.
— I'm doing this for you.
It was as if the words were floating around in the vehicle without ever reaching their intended target. The dark-haired teenager's face was now glued to the glass, his eyes glued to the immense building looming overhead. It was by no means the same kind of school as the one Aunt Nancy had placed him in.
The facade alone was impressively large. From their parking place, he could see teachers dressed in a clean and serious manner, but also students who did not seem at all to be petty criminals. Yeah, it was definitely a big change.
— I know it's nothing like the shithole we grew up in, but I think you're going to love it here.
Carter simply shrugged, following the actress blindly, hands clutching his backpack. He relied heavily on his feet to lead him to the right place. The sight of the path through the trees didn't interest him. He wanted to see the branches move with the light breeze and the white chalk of the walls lighten with the sun. If he had to face this view for the rest of the year, then it was nothing like the hell he'd imagined.
— Ah. Ms. Wiley, it's a great honor to have you here in our school. The school principal spent some extra time buttering Elle up, before realizing Carter’s presence. And you, young man, must be Carter.
Carter shook her hand and gave a brief, shy smile. He suddenly felt his cheeks heating up, just as they did when attention was focused on him. Only this time, Elle was right by his side.
— I hear you have an excellent program for athletes. I'm quite interested, can you tell me more about it?
The woman went into her lengthy explanations and began guiding her guests around the establishment. Elle didn't care much for the school's sports program, but she knew Carter did. He trailed behind the two women, his gaze darting all over the place, swallowing each piece of information he was given.
His sister was right. This building was nothing like the one they'd known. The corridors were huge, well-lit and furnished with rows of lockers that still looked new, or at least functional. He was surprised to find that the refectory was clean and free of tags on walls and tables, something to which he'd become accustomed in his old school. Only a few kilometers stood between him and the place he had once known, yet he had the distinct impression of being in another world.
When both women halted, Carter missed his cue and lightly jostled his sister. He murmured a simple apology, tightening the grip on his backpack straps. Elle quietly patted his shoulder and prompted him to focus on the space in front of them, where one of the school’s gymnasiums stood out. Her knowing smile betrayed her familiarity with her brother's interests. There were only two places to find Carter: the music classroom and the gymnasium, ball in hand.
— Coach Cruz has already studied your profile, Carter. Let me tell you, if you keep up the good work, you'll soon be the team's new star.
The brunet only nodded, too absorbed by the sound of soles on the wooden floor, the whistles and the power of the strikes to find words. Los Angeles may not have been home, but this place could be.
He could already see himself practicing for hours on end, improving his sets and shots, making this room his reference point. The equipment didn't look as bad as he'd imagined.
Here, at least, they had equipment.
— I have a couple of matters to settle with Mrs. Hale. stated Elle, her hand massaging the nape of her brother's neck. Why don't you introduce yourself and take a walk? I won't be long.
Before he could react, Principal Hale had already called the coach over to them. Cruz was a man in his fifties, with an athletic bearing and a posture that showed immense respect. His handshake was strong and seemed genuine. And for the first time since he'd been in his sister's company, Carter saw a man more preoccupied with his sport than with the actress' beautiful face.
— Hey son, welcome to the team. Cruz guided him with a hand on his shoulder, his fatherly posture almost reassuring for a young boy like Carter. You're gonna love it here!

Personal anti-corporate rant ahead.
Do any of you work for a corporation? Were any of you ever subjected to personality tests/assessment tools?
Genuinely curious.
I have a highly analytical mind which coupled with high IQ always makes my bosses have like insane expectations of me at work.
[And I swear to you this is not a brag post and you will see why in a second.]
So they have all these expectations because in theory based on all these fucking tests I’m a genius (like Mensa level).
NONE of these test take into account brain chemistry, fucked up neurology, psychiatric issues or anything like that.
So, my boss essentially sees my oooo test results ooo and thinks omg you are the future of my team please from now on take care of everything and I am like: Big Lady are you aware of what ADD is, are you aware that I legit cannot function without meds, are you aware that when I say “I have a bird’s brain” and you snort and say “please don’t joke” it’s actually super stressful because, while nobody believes it, I actually have ZERO memory. Okay maybe not zero, but I remember about 20% of stuff that happens around me. It’s not a joke, my severe memory issues are apparently a facet of my particular kind of ADD. They do not understand at work, no matter what I say. I take notes religiously, but then I forget where I saved them, they don’t understand why I can’t find them. They quickly forget because when I do find them they are awed by their meticulousness. The meticulousness is a defence mechanism which is something they, again, don’t understand.
Chaotic e-mails stress me out. They don’t get it, they think I read their minds but I don’t. I just have intuition and acumen enough to correctly assume what they mean. Still doesn’t help my jaw muscle inflammation from too much stress from happening. Apparently my jaw is the victim of my feelings of inadequacy because I grind my teeth in my sleep and no one can do anything about it except give me more pills to take.
I am not made for the corporate world, and yet what the fuck am I supposed to do when my main skills include writing gay romance and MS Excel.
This whole post is a result of a talk with my boss’ boss who has e x p e c t a t i o n s for this year and I’m like, dudette, I have never in my life felt like I met any expectations. And yours are way above the normal level because you saw some fucking test which told you something about me which I could have my psychiatrist deny immediately. But then, who the fuck tells their boss to talk to their psychiatrist.
I hate this world. I hate capitalism. I hate that I need to fit into some fucking opinionated framework so that my worth can be measured against others despite all of us being individual people just trying to make a living, and not actually working toward the idealistic common goal of our companies’ glory despite what the millionaire CEOs might believe.
I just like Excel. Please lemme work with Excel. Please don’t make me the project lead of several huge initiatives this year because I’ll get yet another ulcer. I don’t want another ulcer. I don’t want stones in my organs either. I already had to have one organ removed because of that. Please. I am so fucking stressed.
I do not want this.
