So awhile ago, I got this amazing fanart from @isitasporkorafoon which is based on the Lost in the Infinite Lights crossover series by @arinrowan and they gave me permission to share this.
As you can see, the story focuses on Yuugi while dealing with a variety of villains/foes from the two series. I hope you all like it and I sincerely hope you consider reading the story when you get the chance. It's really great if you're a fan of both Yu-Gi-Oh and My Hero Academia.

Legitimately so much credit to Toei though for the shadow and mirror motif and aesthetic.
Like Dark Yuugi in the manga is mostly associated with being Yuugis doppelganger more than anything else. A double, another "side" or another "face." They don't really play much into his nature as a ghost, mostly for the reveal in Battle City.
The dark games themselves are death games, without much magical nature beyond the occasional illusion. Quite a lot is left ambiguous. Dark Yuugi has a motif of illusion more than shadow. Which makes sense. He himself is an illusion of Yuugi when he's someone else.
But illusion is definitely his made "theme" as a spirit.
Illusions as punishments, Magician of Dark Illusion, Ebon Illusion Magician, Apprentice Illusion Magician, illusion of avarice being his first penalty game. He's associated with being the magician as his tarot card. Not a ghost. His theming is a mage of illusion.
It's Toei that leaned hard into that "dark spirit" idea, creating the incredibly famous idea of Dark Yuugi as Yuugis "shadow," with the golden eyes. It's iconic at this point, seeping into the fandom as something that's just a Thing. Toei also had Yuugi's face reflected in Dark Yuugi's mirror game with Ms Chono, which was later added to Yu-Gi-Oh R.
Yu-Gi-Oh R also pulled a lot of the "inky dark shadow" aesthetic from Toei when it comes to the Wicked Gods, down to Dark Yuugi's "Underworld Deck" and the Wicked God Eraser and Wicked Avatar's appearances. It feels like a love letter to fandom, really.
It's fascinating.

For the meme: YGO 3 and 5; Jounouchi 7 and... 17! 'cause it's (almost) spooky time. >:D
YGO
3. Which scene would I erase from the universe and why.
I agree with what you said about Anzu being chloroform and also the scene with Ms. Chono. I would also happily erase all of Johji from the manga. He was just so unnecessary and honestly Anzu deserved better than to deal with all the unnecessary pervy touching she got from so many random characters.
5. The scene from it that lives in my head rent free.
"What a digital dummy" is more for the line but I will quote that everyday. Honestly all the funny little random scenes from the anime, especially the dub will live there forever.
Jounouchi
7. The scene that I think adds depth to their character or the relationship this character has with someone.
Oh, there are so many good ones to choose from with this! Absolutely the scene in death T where Jou confesses about returning the puzzle piece was one of the hardest things he's ever had to do and how he finally started to like himself. Also, I love that Jou has so many good moments of giving advice to others. Like with Mai and his friendship riddles. Telling Anzu he'd eat a thousand burgers if he ever told her secret. Especially since many times these characters see Jou as this loud mouth, and he forms this bond with them by just showing the other side of himself. That he really cares about others and their hopes and dreams.
17. How well would they do if they got dropped in a horror movie.
Oh God, I mean physically? He'd probably be just fine. He'd survive on sheer willpower to get the hell out and that overactive fight or flight he has. But the mental toll on him? Catastrophic. Literally his worst nightmare.

Oh....Yuugi had fallen asleep in class. The Other Yuugi took over, and in messy katakana, wrote a message.
'Pay attention, or Ms. Chono will get mad again.'
And then he gently slapped Yuugi's cheek, and tagged back out again.

Love Letter?
Remembering the blank puzzle fiasco with Ms. Chono aside, Atem rose an eyebrow at the choice, glancing between the customer, the board game, and back to the cash register again.
Oh dear, oh dear....
This wouldn't be the first time that a customer had ended up developing a little crush and flirting with him, of course. A customer coming right up to him and complimenting him to his face, and then ending up coming back with sunglasses the very next day to purchase a game with such a loaded title.
Oh, well. He was fine letting him down easy, if he tried to vocalize it. Otherwise, he just decided to go with professionalism, and letting things go.
More money for the store was a good thing anyway, he supposed.
"Will that be all?" He gave a charming smile. "We also have new packs from America, just came in last week."
He jumped at the greeting, but instantly relaxed at the casual customer service. Perfect, his disguise had worked! "Thank you!" He said.
Now, onto his mission!
He did spend a while in there, looking at the board game boxes, and reading the back to try to get an idea for the game. It was hard picking something for someone else! Some of the ones that Sora would have found interesting for himself ended up being for the wrong age group! (That figured.)
Right, Sora! You gotta think of old people!
Eventually he settled on Love Letter. He picked a modern one, trying to avoid the traditional games since his grandparents already had those. He could only hope they'd like this one!
He brought the box up to the counter, freezing momentarily as he was starkly reminded of his blunder yesterday. Oops, seemed in his determination he had forgotten. He silently put the box on the counter and brought out his wallet.

A small what-if for the manga that could've impacted the entire series would be if Ms. Chono had successfully expelled Tristan from Domino High, especially since that incident was what helped cement his friendship with Yugi. (Miho would probably feel terrible, too.)

So far these Shadow Games have been exclusively competitive games, so it’s kind of surreal seeing the Pharaoh transform the jigsaw into a Shadow Game, even if it does turn into a suitably ironic punishment for our vain villain.

What I came up with, by the way:
(ships for characters that I think would/should date)
Angershipping – Diva / Aigami x Marik Ishtar x Yami Marik
Authorityshipping – Gozaburo Kaiba x Ms. Chono
Cadmiumshipping – Priest Karim x Rishid Ishtar / Odion Ishtar
Chikashipping – Father Bakura (either main anime or DSOD movie) x Mama Mutou (supposedly 'chika' means 'parent' or 'parental' in Japanese ; I don't know if that's true but it sounds good)
Complimentaryshipping – Anzu Mazaki / Tea Gardner x Seto Kaiba x Vivian Wong
Convictshipping – Jiro the Yellow Spider x Tetsuo Sasaki the Hedgehog
Coyshipping – Mai Kujaku / Mai Valentine x Ms. Chono
Grimshipping – Seto Kaiba x Vivian Wong
Lashshipping – Vivian Wong x Yami Marik
Opportunshipping – Ms. Chono x Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen / Aknamkanon (meant to be a shortened version of opportunist; mostly inspired by the concept of, if both of these characters coexisted in the same place and time, I think Chono would be vying to marry this rich foreign guy like her life depended on it)
Otoushipping – Father Bakura (either main anime or DSOD movie) x Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen / Aknamkanon
Pageantshipping – Kaoruko Himekoji x Miho Nosaka
Parentshipping – Mama Mutou x Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen / Aknamkanon
Purpleshipping – Miho Nosaka x Risa Kageyama
Sameshipping – Father Bakura (DSOD movie) x Father Bakura (main anime) (because they're, y'know... supposed to be the same person. But I think it's funnier to assume they're two different people and Bakura has two archeologist dads. And neither of them are good at keeping their son away from a cursed artifact.)
Silkshipping – Insector Haga / Weevil Underwood x Miho Nosaka
Tyrantshipping – Yami Marik x Yami Yugi x Yugi Mutou
Uneaseshipping – Risa Kageyama x Yami Bakura
Updoshipping – Miho Nosaka x Ryuji Otogi / Duke Devlin
Vampshipping – Risa Kageyama x Vivian Wong
Winnershipping – Kaoruko Himekoji x Seto Kaiba
Witchshipping – Mana / Dark Magician Girl x Risa Kageyama
(ships for characters that I think would be friends if they ever interacted, or like one party has a crush on another or something)
Aeroshipping – Priestess Isis x Shizuka Kawai / Serenity Wheeler
Bodiceshipping – Anzu Mazaki / Tea Gardner x Mai Kujaku / Mai Valentine x Miho Nosaka
Boltshipping – Mai Kujaku / Mai Valentine x Yami Yugi x Yugi Mutou
Cheekshipping – Mai Kujaku / Mai Valentine x Mana / Dark Magician Girl
Choreoshipping – Aileen Rao x Anzu Mazaki / Tea Gardner
Creepshipping – Vivian Wong x Yugi Mutou
Cuffshipping – Vivian Wong x Yami Yugi
Demureshipping – Cyndia / Cecilia Pegasus x Shizuka Kawai / Serenity Wheeler
Englishshipping – Arthur Hopkins / Arthur Hawkins x Ridley Sheldon the Dollmaker
Eyelinershipping – Player Killer / Shadow Duelist / Panik x Ryuji Otogi / Duke Devlin
Fangshipping – Amelda / Alister x Critius (I wanted to do Clawshipping for Hermos x Valon and Eyeshipping for Raphael x Timaeus, but those were already taken)
Glowwormshipping – Insector Haga / Weevil Underwood x Leon Wilson / Leon von Schroeder
Gyneshipping – Insector Haga / Weevil Underwood x Princess Mary / Edina (gyne is a word for the queen of an insect hive)
Headbandshipping – Keith Howard / Bandit Keith x Ryuji Otogi / Duke Devlin
Horrorshipping – Player Killer / Shadow Duelist / Panik x Risa Kageyama
Ironshipping – Rishid Ishtar / Odion Ishtar x Yami Yugi
Joseishipping – Anzu Mazaki / Tea Gardner x Mai Kujaku / Mai Valentine x Shizuka Kawai / Serenity Wheeler
Ladyshipping – Miho Nosaka x Queen Iore
Lenseshipping – Insector Haga / Weevil Underwood x Rebecca Hopkins / Rebecca Hawkins
Lostshipping – Cyndia / Cecilia Pegasus x Kisara
Lovelyshipping – Miho Nosaka x Priestess Isis
Macabreshipping – Risa Kageyama x Yami Marik
Patershipping – Father Bakura (main anime) x Lord Ironheart
Repulseshipping – Imori x Risa Kageyama
Riteshipping – Anubis x Pharaoh Atem (like death rites or something)
Spookshipping – Ghost Kotsuzuka / Bonz x Imori
Talonshipping – Hermos x Mai Valentine
Tangoshipping – Aileen Rao x Johnny Steps
Thrillshipping – Risa Kageyama x Ryo Bakura / Ryou Bakura
Thugshipping – Aileen Rao x Ryuichi Fuwa (I tend to think of them as Kaiba's hired thugs)
Uncovershipping – Emperor Dartz x Father Bakura (main anime)
Wisdomshipping – Priestess Isis x Sera
Youthfulshipping – Miho Nosaka x Rebecca Hopkins / Rebecca Hawkins
Putting together YGO ships and coming up with names for them for my own amusement atm.

i love that honda's friendship with yuugi develops slower/differently than jounouchi. yuugi defending them from ushio doesn't change honda's mind on yuugi the way it does for jounouchi... like his best friend picked up their loser classmate who hangs out with them now, and he does NOT understand it. why is this dork here. he's making yuugi carry his textbooks and buy him porny magazines, like he probably thinks if he's mean enough, yuugi will leave him and jounouchi alone and the Best Friendship will go back to normal, but if yuugi doesn't leave, then honda has this convenient tag-along who'll do random shit for him in the hopes of being included. and then yuugi stands up to defend him from ms. chono and he's like "oh fuck... i did wrong... this guy really is our friend"
and then he does some introspection somewhere offscreen and in death-t he's like "we were such stupid punks :(" and in duelist kingdom he's like "kaiba tried to kill us all but we can't leave him and mokuba in pegasus' dungeon. it's just not right. mokuba saved me in death-t and i relate to kaiba's love for mokuba" which is a stance that's the opposite of 'stupid punk' - it's fumbling for a sense of honor and ethics, and attempting to understand what we owe each other. the growth and depth is THERE. justice for honda
