I can't resist an ask game 😂 I actually dropped by though to say that I've been listening to Tea, Milk, and Honey a lot over the past couple months, and every time I hear it it makes me feel weepy for that little platypus learning to trust his own sense of right and wrong. And also for all the other folks who've gone through that. I knew that story was gonna hit hard when I saw that religious trauma tag.

god. let's talk about that for a sec hey. recently it came to my attn that one of my Hilson fics has achieved some margin of popularity on Spanish-speaking fandom TikTok, which is hilarious and weird and amazing. i scroll thru the comments. lo and behold there is some mention of the fact that i also wrote platypus fanfic. would you believe me when i say i forget about it until someone (or some song) brings it to my attn?

im totally one of those bitches who will be like "haha...wow i was going thru something...twas forever ago,, i was a different person back then..." bruh this was within the last year. lol. more on religious trauma that nobody asked for + why i went full platypus mode for a second down below.

picture this: you're at the stage of development where you're becoming aware of sexual feelings. the same stage of development, funnily enough, where we're said to develop self-concept, enhance our critical thinking skills, and begin to get into drama because we're starting to understand our own place in the world, for better or for worse: puberty.

so you're in this place. you're having these thoughts and feelings. you're an undiagnosed autist whose special interests are a bit too childish (and too intense) for your peers to understand, and all the while your sexual development is underway, and then BAM: you are slapped in the face with abstinence-only education that not only demonizes sex but frames it as a form of reverence that one sex is supposed to offer the other as a form of submission (after signing paperwork that was originally conceived as a form of ownership).

HAHA. my psychosexual development was doomed from the start, whether by nature or nurture, and i've made peace + pride with that. HOWEVER. last summer i entered one of several recurring periods of really grappling with religious trauma, trying to find my place in a world where i still can't imagine a godless reality but am shedding the one(s) i used to believe in, + just generally having a Bad Time. who got me through that period of my life when i really started to understand that innate things about me were seen as perversions of nature by my supposed church family? Perry the goddamn platypus. silent, deadly, misunderstood, gentle unless faced with the Horrors. he lives a double life and he lives it well. he's at peace with it as much as he can be: he is docile and dumb and huggable at home, and he's vicious and cunning and suave at work, and neither of these things are lies, they're just two sides of who he is.

funnily enough my other longtime fandom, TMNT (across several iterations/reboots), can also be seen as a closet narrative. i saw these characters struggling with the two sides of their lives, two worlds, each of which only understood part of them, and i kind of directed my whole self into those stories because i couldn't really stand to be an active participant in my own at that time in my life.

so i returned to that stage last summer. i embraced that confused kid who just tried to contort their sexuality and their energy to fit a fucked-up paradigm and i just worked through all these big feelings that i was trying to shove in a box the last time i was obsessed with Perry the platypus. and you know what? it's good to know that no matter how old i get, he's still there. lol. there are still such things as simple comforts, touchstones to the shit that got me through. it wasn't the healthiest time. i lived in a daydream, but by god i lived.

lived to write really weird sex fanfictions about a 2D sentient platypus. fuck yeah. peace and love on planet earth.

Finding Camellia (Webcomic)

Maybe it's just because I finished reading a really bad fantasy style story and I'm biased towards crossdressing, but Finding Camellia (or Please Be Patient, Grand Duke) isn't terrible. Granted, there are quite a lot of flaws in it, but it's not a horrible story. The yandere is the male lead, and while I feel like he is a bit light in terms of actual yandere actions, it's enough to at least call him an obsessive male lead.

The story starts out with Camellia being found and taken away from her mother as a young girl. She is the bastard child of the Bale family and was taken in to pretend to be Kieran Bale's younger brother as a punishment for her mother taking away something from her. As such, Camellia is forced to live as Camellius. Soon after meeting Claude, Kieran Bale is brought to a doctor from a far away land to help with his health. As such, Camellius learns her place as the next male heir of the Bale family. After a couple of years, Camellia is determined to find her mother again after completing her deal with Ms. Bale. Claude continues to grow affection towards her, unaware that she is a girl, as well as the prince, Ian, who seems fully aware that she is girl. During this time, Camellia learns that her mother is in a town next door and attempts to sneak there by dressing up as a female, only to be almost caught by Claude. At school, the teachers there as for Camellius's help in catching a criminal that has been killing high class ladies as she's pretty and could pass as a girl (maybe because she is one), and is accompanied by Ian and Claude, who teaches her how to fight with a blade. She is able to help catch the criminal, and her brother as well as Ms. Bale comes back. Ian attempts to wed Camellia, while Claude's father gets assassinated, starting a war between the two sides. The final couple of chapters have Claude finally find out that Camellia is a girl and Camellia gaining a map that shows the whereabouts of her mother.

Starting out, the story itself has actually more stuff going on in terms of building somewhat of a relationship with Camellus and Claude, but I just didn't really mention it in the summary. Callemllus/Camellia as a character is... well, as a character she does have a motive of trying to find her mother, but she lacks a backbone (for lack of a better word) since she does ultimately let people do whatever they want with her. It sort of makes sense as she's basically being blackmailed by the family to pretend to be another heir, but it's not enough for her to be this shy constantly, especially around the male lead. Normally, I do really like crossdressing stories, but for this one, everyone keeps on going on and on about how she looks like a girl. This is a standard trope in crossdressing stories, but it seems to be pointed out by everyone and... feels like it kind of defeats the purpose of crossdressing in the first place. She also does uncrossdress (for the lack of a better word) twice in with little gap in between. The first time is more reasonable since she's going off to find her mom, which of course she would want to look like a girl so that her mother would recognize her, but almost right after she's contacted by the school to (again) uncrossdress to act as bait for people who are killing women. Despite everything, I think she does have some nice characterization for some of the things she does, namely the fact that she feels empathy for those who are poorer than her (in this case the children that are used to lure her into the trap for the murderer), but I wouldn't say she's my favorite protagonist or even that I specifically like her. That might just be a preference thing though.

To be honest, I don't really like either of the male leads, which is not a good sign. Claude is the male lead, so he does have a lot of screen time, but I'm honestly struggling to think of a personality trait for him other than he is a serious looking duke that makes Camellia flustered a lot. Admittedly, he does have more character near the end where his father dies and he becomes forced to become the next Duke at a (relatively) young age, but it seems out of nowhere and used mostly to drive the rivalry between Ivan and him more. As a yandere, he feels a bit on the light side, generally being confused about his feelings about Camellia (as he has the bi panic in why he has a crush on Camellus), getting jealous over her when other guys (mostly Ivan) get close to her and giving threatening looks to people who get in her way, but he hasn't done anything specifically harmful. Ivan does even note that it's not him who is the most obsessed but rather Claude, which does make sense since he keeps on folllowing Camellia around. That being said, it's not very drastic and actually rather light. Ivan, while not a yandere, is very flirty and upfront about his feelings towards Camellia, even continually stating that she is a girl despite her refusal to admit it. He has the air of a playboy type, and is the most interesting male lead compared to Claude, since he does actually plan to marry Camellia (to protect her, in essence) and again has the power to do so since he is the prince. Personally, I like Camellia's brother Kieran the best, because while he is barely there, seems to be a good brother and I like watching him kick out both Ivan and Claude when Camellia wasn't able to.

I would say the best part of this webcomic is the artwork since it is really pretty. The story itself might be kind of wonky, but man, is it pretty.

Overall, it does seem to at least have a light yandere lead, though it's possible that he might get stronger in the future. I guess we'll have to see.

I've always wished there were more Reylo hypnosis fics. (I may have already commented this?) I was so ridiculously excited when you wrote it before, and there are so many possibilities that seem well-suited to the characters-- It could be soft Ben and Rey in a "you're stressed, let's just turn your brain off for a while" sort of context, or arrogant/immature Kylo who thinks he's gonna hypnotize Rey and then gets caught off guard when she turns things around on him. I just like the idea of seeing them mess with each other's heads.

ough so NGL I have chickened out from writing proper in depth hypno not once but twice 😭 I kinda skipped over the whole thing and went pseudoscientific in "adopt don't shop" and then just sort of hand waved the whole thing in "pwned."

all of that to say that the reason I chickened out in both those fics was "what if this is weird for ppl who didn't come here to read hypno" as if those 2 fics aren't already freaky as fuck 😂 so if that isn't a good reason to magic up a standalone reylo hypno fic, I don't know what is!!

I'm super intrigued by the second scenario you posted. like a modern au version of the interrogation scene lol. I might take both, or just one, it will depend on where the inspiration next strikes!!

She found her first love and became a young mother in her late teens, but some time after his passing she found another and conceived twins not long after.

Throughout her marriage, Lorelei promised herself that she would be a better mother than her own. Refusing to eat until the children had eaten, buying them new clothes as they quickly grew, & supporting their aspirations beyond the family circus, it was when she lost her second husband, Cash, during an Incident at their family circus. Now, she's moved back to the Lust ring, & with the aid of old friends has a job at a burlesque-lounge, where she later became co-owner and occasionally performs or sings for.

Eldest sister to Blitzo & Barbie Buckzo, Tilla is the token "responsible sibling" that has been her sibling's rock through some of the best & worst moments of their lives. Despite being a child born of a previous relationship, her & Cash had a civil enough relationship, though the eldest was often taken advantage of & partially parentified by her stepfather.

Unfortunately, a year before the Incident at the family circus, Tilla had gotten into a major conflict with Cash that had ended in her leaving the family business & moving to the Lust ring. Since her leave, the eldest sister has continued to act as the voice of reason between her siblings' & their various day-to-day escapades, attempting to keep what remains of her dysfunctional family together while juggling her own personal problems.

One of the heirs to the Wackford fortune -- most notably from the recently-popular Wackdonald's branch of business -- Wally is the youngest of several children ; though he is not spoiled by any means, the imp most certainly has been raised with an unrealistically higher standard than one usually has when so low on the proverbial food chain, but especially when you were raised in a place like the Greed ring.

As a requirement, one that his older siblings have long-since passed, the youngster must be able to hold down a job -- any kind of job, really -- for THREE years, & in doing so he will prove that he can be financially stable & handle a large allowance or be responsible for his own business once he starts making serious bank. Until then, Wally will be taking any & every job he can get his greedy hands on, desperate to prove to his family that he can be a trustworthy adult & not a waste of space or an emergency heir.

MS. KNOWLAS / ( verses )

A middle child among five children, Camellia Belles is the eldest daughter of a successful Tailoring family in the Wrath ring that specialized phenomenal leatherwork, but they are most well-known for their bulletproof vests made from the sturdiest & healthiest of War Hogs ; as expected, next to a high demand in Wrath, the Greed & Pride rings also pulled in plenty of sales.

Camellia then met Crimson Knowlas, & within a handful of years the two wedded, the coupling later resulting in the birth of their only son Moxxie. With both parents raised with different values, Crimson eventually reached a breaking point with Camellia when their son was a toddler, & he attempted to murder her for a number of reasons. Unknown to him & Moxxie, the headstrong Wrathian survived, now missing an eye, her horns, & most of her tail.

In the current day, Camellia has taken up residence in the Pride ring & works in a successful extended branch of her family's business in shoe repair & altercations. Thus far, she's gone undetected by Crimson.

The ruler of the Sloth ring, Belphegor is known for being the Ambassador of Hell & chief of laziness ; to be slothful is to be affectless to any feeling about oneself or others, & as such the physical toll of this apathy leads to passive boredom & the indifference to work. The most accurate translations of it's Latin origin -- acedia -- is self-pity, for it conveys both the melancholy of the condition & self-centeredness upon which it is founded.

Belphegor themselves is a former party animal turned introvert, who would rather be at home, working on their many, many projects that they have picked up but never fully completed. Between being Ambassador & making attempts to keep the pharmaceutical market in check, she has little patience for much else, often preferring to lounge in her house robes & solve puzzles gifted by friends.

Every once in a great while though, Belphegor will indulge in a party or two & usually accepts the consequences of his indulgences... usually.

A pint-sized cyclops-bug-thing of a sinner, Niffty is the primary maid & cook at the Hazbin Hotel. Easily excitable & full of unbridled zeal, this one-eyed dame finds friends in many unlikely places, but has a difficult time keeping said friends due to the nature of the Pride ring's city-hellscape, as well as her own ditziness from time to time. What she lacks in book-smarts she makes up for in passion for her work & hobbies, & she enjoys sharing it to boundary-breaking degrees.

FRACTURE / ( verses )

Aged out of the pound after hitting eighteen, Fracture left the person-sized prison with severe anger issues & nowhere to go, leaving only with the clothes on his back & his identity in-hand. From there, the malamute starts his journey to betterment by jumping to & from various shelters for housing, taking up labor-heavy work for many years before finally landing a job in security at St. Ann's Hospital in the Sloth ring.

LIANDRY SAVOY / ( verses )

Hailing from the Sloth ring, Liandry is a hybrid with a.. complicated family history. She is a gentle giant who was raised by her baphomet grandparents -- along with her younger brother Nico -- as her birth parents had gone missing sometime during her childhood. Since then, she's had front-row seats to the shady underside of her grandmother's highly-regarded reputation in the medical field and has been set onto the very same path ; even when her hands had been blown off in her mid-teens, the essential tools of her trade, her reputation was bolstered by a "donation" of robotic prosthetics.

From pharmaceuticals to cosmetic surgery to organ transplants, Liandry Robinson is a jack of many trades in the medical field that well worth the price of her "miracle work".

JASPER / ( verses )

A sinner who died during the Chernobyl incident in the mid 80's, Jasper used to be a janitor -- an average joe doing his 9-5 just to return to an empty home ; he died a slow, agonizing death due to the high amounts of radiation poisoning when reactor no. 4 had exploded, & was sent to hell for his selfish act of self-preservation, pushing fellow coworkers, engineers, & scientists to the side to save himself from the oncoming waves of radiation. In doing so, he cost a handful of people their lives.

nowadays in hell, he just acts as transportation for truckloads of aphrodisiacs & narcotics & everything else in-between, trying to survive Pride's own hellscape. On the side, Jasper sells the "reward" portions he earns through keeping supply on a strict & consistent schedule. It's not much, but it's work nonetheless, & when he isn't driving, the pig-man's keeping himself busy as last-minute muscle for low & high-lifes of all kinds.
