Summary A children's tale following the adventures of Mr. Bliss, a man who likes tall hats and keeps a girabbit. The story is set in a time when purchasing a car for 5s 6d seemed reasonable (to children, at least.) J.R.R. Tolkien did all the illustrations for this tale himself.

Why should I check out this canon? Because you like Tolkien's illustrations. Because you are fascinated by the concept of the girabbit (half giraffe, half rabbit). Because you wish that you, too, could purchase a functional automobile for £13.95. Because Mr. Bliss's highway hijinks may or may not have been inspired by JRRT's own driving. ("Charge 'em and they scatter!") Because you enjoy English village life that is somewhat less hazardous than Midsomer Murders. Because you like Bears.

Where can I get this? At the bookseller* or public library of your choice. If your local public library does not have it, copies are available to borrow from the Internet Archive.

You can be entertained by this shit, that however does not mean it's good for anyone. Sorry but I do NAWT trust you if you don’t like Nanami Kento an abnormal amount and believe he’s the most husband-like character in JJK😔🙏🏽 He was LITERALLY made for delusional fanfiction, like Gege and the animators KNEW what they were doing with him. Hello, small canon fans!

Your mod apparently has a memory like a sieve...however, with apologies for the lateness, I am delighted to share our set of advance prompts for the 2025 event (below the cut). Use these in any way that strikes your fancy!

What is Hidden Paths?

Hidden Paths is an event dedicated to the celebration of smaller Tolkien canons. For the purposes of this event, we define "smaller canons" as any Tolkien canon or text (including academic works and translations) that is not explicitly set in Middle-earth and is not based on The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, or The Silmarillion and closely related histories.

Your friendly mod (Narya) will post prompts to tempt your muses - one set a few months in advance of the 'official' event dates, then two more sets during the event itself.

If you like the prompts, then use any or all of them to create and share a fanwork based on one or more small Tolkien canons. If they don't speak to you, please feel free to do your own thing – the prompts are there to spark creativity, not impede it!
