Mr. Crocket Trailer

Set in 1993, Mr. Crocket follows Summer Beverly. Summer's husband has died from cancer and she is struggling to support herself and her 9 year old son Major, who is spiraling due to his father's death. Summer believes she is granted a miracle when a VHS tape of Mr. Crocket's World appears on her doorstep and playing it calms down Major. The "miracle" turns out to be more like a curse when her son is kidnapped as Mr. Crocket murders parents and steals children through the TV.

Mr. Crocket stars Jerrika Hinton, Ayden Gavin, Elvis Nolasco, Kristolyn Lloyd, and Alex Akpobome. The film is directed by Brandon Espy and written by Carl Reid and Espy. The film is based on Espy's short of the same name.

Mr. Crocket hits Hulu on October 11, 2024.

Eddie chose their bachelor party outfits

Buck explains that it was an 80’s themed party and that he was dressed as Crocket and Eddie as Tubbs, then Eddie corrects him and says HE is Crockett and Buck is Tubbs.

We all know Buck’s pop culture knowledge is lacking and the fact that he got their character names mixed up and Eddie corrects him tells me that Eddie chose them. Why is this interesting?

Because Crocket and Tubbs are the guys from Miami Vice. If you don’t know it we’ll forgive you since it aired from 1984 – 1989, before a lot of you were probably born or old enough to be watching it. Before either Buck or Eddie were born too, by the way (and Christ don’t I feel old since I was in high school when it ended).

So, Eddie choosing to go as Sonny Crockett is FASCINATING to me. Quoting heavily from this article:

“Sonny struggles with depression, gets attached easily and just as easily hurt and makes dad jokes. Sonny is prickly, vulnerable, and deeply sad. I would also argue that he’s pretty heavily queercoded, and I don’t think it’s entirely unintentional.”

Sound somewhat familiar at all?

Interestingly, the penultimate episode of season 1 is titled Evan. Why is that interesting, you ask? As this article says, “Oh, you know, it’s then the moment Sonny’s possible bisexuality starts to seem like an intentional implication rather than an accident of incautious scripting”…

There’s a lot more to Miami Vice of course, and my memory of it is filtered through 30 years of life so it’s not perfect. You can find out more for yourselves if you want. I just find it very interesting that it’s Eddie who went as Crockett instead of Buck.

Interesting and exciting when we view it through the lens of Buddie possibly going canon in the future.

Why did you choose to be Crockett, Eddie? What is your subconscious telling you that you aren’t ready to hear yet Mr Diaz ‘who freaked out that your girlfriend was a Catholic nun’, hmmm?

OK, Creepypasta and Analog Horror influences are pretty darn obvious here and I'm all for it. I love that the people behind this sparred no expense in making the in-universe Mr. Crocket's World feel like an authentic children's show.

The animated intro, the theme song, the puppets, The Guy in The Bear Costume That Probably Isn't Really A Human in a Bear Costume, the human host that's charming to the target audience but could be considered a little unnerving to anybody else...

And then, there's the touches like the terror beginning when a mysterious and seemingly innocuous VHS tape is found. The harbinger of many supernatural murders and abductions to come...

Plus, the actor playing the titular Mr. Crocket seems to be genuinely having a good time as this demonic Mr. Rogers and I'm already getting the feeling that he brought his A-Game to the role.

The trailer was just released today, but the movie already feels top notch and I'm dying to see it.

Please, please, please be good.

i've said before that foghorn fails at everything so that's why he shouldn't be running a business in the 2012 looney tunes show, but that was actually an oversimplification of his character. (sorry to do you this disservice mr. leghorn.) he actually succeeds - but only when he's acting selflessly. and i mean like completely only solely selflessly. he's very good at protecting the hens (the foghorn leghorn (1948), pullet surprise (1997)), but whenever the selflessness involves his ego, or trying to be better than someone else, or trying to get something out of it (feather dusted (1955), crocket doodle doo (1960), various comics where he's trying to "teach" eggbert that i can't be assed to find the titles or years of, the comic where he tries to marry miss prissy after thinking she won the lottery) the laws of the universe demand that he become the bearer of the schadenfreude stick once again. the quickest turnaround example of this is in leghorn swoggled (1951). he helps henry get away from a mousetrap no problem, then it becomes about Him having to get the cheese out and it snaps on him. well i feel like i started this with a point but now it's just a fun observation. remember this if you're writing him for whatever reason
