Story Universes

The first thing I’ll say about all this is that I do not have any of these stories actually written down and posted anywhere, so don’t ask me where you can read them. ;P They used to be all based in the roleplays I used to participate in with my former best friend, but since we’re not associating anymore and I have no drive to try opening myself to RPing with anyone else again, all this is just from my own personal daydreaming and whatnot.

While I’ve been tempted now and again to get some of these stories written out, I just don’t have the drive to deal with the writing process.

Anyway, this is a quick little list of the universes the characters most of my dolls represent exist in.

Ghosts & Things

It’s Yu Yu Hakusho meshed with Mob Psycho 100 primarily. Some references to characters from Bleach as well. Basically, if it’s an anime that deals in supernatural elements, it’s probably gonna be referenced in this universe…but it’s mostly YYH and MP100 because they’re the best ones.

Half the story revolves around my character Riyo as she exists in the YYH storyline, and then goes onward to hers and the boys’ lives as adults and parents into the MP100 storyline (which then centers more around Sachi; Riyo and Hiei’s daughter).

Bright Idea

This universe is basically a big amalgamation of a variety of series (primarily anime/manga) into one universe and the story is generally centered around my own characters (Naoko, Jin-ho, Nori, Amaya, etc). It’s generally pretty much a slice-of-life type of storyline with a lot of interpersonal relationship drama and whatnot. It primarily kicks off from when Naoko and Jin-ho are high schoolers and follows them through the creation of their band and on into their musical careers in their 20s and 30s.

Series involved in this universe include (but hardly limited to): Gravitation, NANA, My Hero Academia, Fruits Basket, BNA, DNAngel, Final Fantasy XV.

Tokyo Ghoul

I basically just follow along with the plot of the manga series, but with the addition of my own characters (Leyla, Capria, and Michelle) and the later part of the story changes up a bit with their presence.

Mass Effect

It’s just the original trilogy, but what if Shepard could smooch Joker. xD

Devil May Cry

Another “it’s just the games, but…”, and in this case it’s what if we knew who Nero’s mom was and it was my character Qianna?

(For future reference and in case I forget to update this later on, this description was written when we’d only gotten up to the 5th game out so we don’t officially know who Vergil fucked bahaha.)

Mononoke

Medicine Seller’s hijinks in the modern world, which includes running into my girl Amelia from time to time and seeing how their friendship progresses.

Arcane

The Netflix series, but Amelia gets to smooch Silco and then later on Viktor and she would die for Jinx because she’s chosen family.

The Witcher

What if Jaskier and Geralt had to put up with a second higher vampire in their adventures?

Final Fantasy VII

There’s yet another chick that thirsts after Cloud, but she thicc.

Cyberpunk 2077

Set in the story of the video game featuring my V (Vesper Sosa). Sometimes it keeps to the canon, but sometimes my imaginings include keeping Jackie Welles around.

Trigun

Set in either the manga version of the Trigun series, or the Trigun Stampede anime depending on my mood bahaha. Includes my CP2077 character Vesper (same design, but different character from CP2077) as a mercenary that ran with Knives until ideologies clashed and she crosses paths with Vash and crew now and again.

In this universe, Vesper is one of the first attempts at a plant-human hybrid (basically a prototype to Elendria), though in her case she wasn’t created and was human to begin with. In her case, she doesn’t have creation-esque abilities like Knives and Elendria, but her lifespan is much longer than the average human. Her reflexes and senses are also quicker/more powerful than they were originally (particularly her sight). She isn’t able to directly communicate with Plants, but she does have a sense for how they’re feeling in the moment. Her cybernetics are from back when she was still on Earth (needed her vocal chords rebuilt as well as her hands due to an accident).

Mob/Teru/Ritsu/Shou who out of this group is your favorite and why

Personally I feel like mob is literally the man, like he’s that guy. But something about Teru strikes a chord with me

(I apologize in advance. This is gonna be looooong).

So my favorite characters in any fandom tend to be the ones I can find bits and pieces of myself in. The ones I can connect with. That’s what’s special about MP100. I’ve found little bits and pieces of my self in almost all the characters.

I connected with Ritsu’s dilemma of never feeling good enough, that even though he is so talented at so many things, he never feels fulfilled because the one thing he wants to excel in, he can’t. No matter how hard he tries.

I connected with Shou and how responsible he is, even too much so. He took on a huuuuge load he shouldn’t have had to (defeating his dad) and ended up hurting himself in the process. He is very self sacrificing (even though, although funny, fanon Shou is often portrayed as the meme kid who wants to watch the world burn).

But then there’s Teru and Mob. The ones who’s characters hit me the hardest.

I love Mob because what he’s going through are things I’m currently struggling with. Mob is going through a really hard time in his life where he doesn’t know what to do. He’s not lazy, but he doesn’t have self-motivation. The things he does are things others have told him to do. Reigen may tell Mob he doesn’t have to use his powers, but we still see how often Reigen uses them for his own benefit. Tome tells Mob to join the telepathy club or they will disband and she’ll be sad. Using his powers and joining a club surrounding psychic powers are both things he doesn’t want to do, but almost does simply because he was told it was the “right choice.”

But that’s not what he wants. He’s very talented in the psychic power category, yes, but that’s not his passion. That’s not what makes him happy. He finally does find that with the Body Improvement club. That was his choice, not something someone else told him was “good” for him.

I’m still searching for that. What I truly want in my life. Is my goal to have a good career? To own a nice house in the woods? To have kids? To be financially stable enough to support my hobbies? I’m still figuring that one out (and there are answers to this in Mob’s character arc, but that’s a S3 spoiler, so I’ll skip for now).

And then there’s TERU. Ohhhhhhh Teru. We love to make fun of his fashion, of his bald head, and his enemies to friends arc. But what myself and many others love about him is the subtle character traits he has that makes you raise an eyebrow. Like in S1 when Dimple asks why he’s living in a one bedroom apartment and Teru decides to not elaborate on why he, a 14 year old child, is living by himself with no parents in sight. Since the series is technically from Mob’s POV (for the most part), Mob doesn’t ask so Teru doesn’t tell. Therefore, we don’t really know.

And that’s what intrigues me.

There is so much both unknown yet implied about Teru that makes his character fantastic to unbox. He has so many quirks and oddities that make you go “what happened that made him like this? Why was he so desperate for attention? Why was his first instinct to fight when seeing another esper?”

And that’s how I connect with Teru. I haven’t really done any looking back on my childhood until recently, mostly because my opinion on life was “whelp, I’m not dead so I guess I turned out okay and was treated right.”

But looking back, there are some events in my life that have contributed to the way I am today. Especially the many parts of myself that I don’t like. It wasn’t until I started asking myself “why do I feel the need to get perfect grades? Why was I so obsessed with people acknowledging me when I was younger?” (Which is honestly similar to pre-Mob Teru. Just more subtle and less, uh, violent.)

So that’s a really long answer to: If I really had to choose I’d say it’s a tie between Teru and Mob? I GUESS?!?

Who is your favorite character in 2? Hotaru Tomoe/Sailor Saturn for SURE. I have loved her ever since I met her in the series when I was a little kid! 

Who is your least favorite character in 1? I’m not entirely sure? I think it may be Aoi? I just don’t know enough about her yet to have a real opinion on whether or not I like her. She’s a sweet girl and friend to Nene, but I just haven’t seen enough of her. 

What is your favorite episode of 4? I think it would have to be when Maka uses the black blood to fight Crona. That was just a fantastic fight scene that I adore. 

What is your favorite season of 5? I think I would have to say season 2. I love how much more impressive the animation got, and the mini-arcs that happened. Also, I love 100% ecstasy Mob with my entire soul. (Season 3 will be my favorite though. Whenever that will be)

Who is your favorite couple in 3? I really love Yoh and Anna. But, if I had to choose one who isn’t the main, I really love Li Pi Long and Tao Jun. I think their relationship evolving the way it does is very interesting.  

Who is your favorite couple in 2? Not a couple, but I really love Hotaru and Chibiusa. Those two are adorable together and I am glad they found one another. 

What is your favorite episode of 1? So far? I love episode 12 the most. Without getting too spoiler-y, I like that it is setting up for a possible season 2. 

What is your favorite episode of 5? I love the Teru versus Mob fight in season 1. I love how it becomes the turning point for Teru from being the conceited asshole he is to becoming an overall good person(TM). 

What is your favorite episode season of 2? I don’t know the episode specifically, but season 3 when Hotaru becomes Sailor Saturn!!

How long have you watched 1? It just came out lol.

How did you become interested in 3? My best friend thought I would enjoy the manga and when I read it, I became addicted and tried out the anime. Then, I remembered vaguely seeing episodes on Saturday morning on 4Kidz when I was in 4th grade lol. 

Who is your favorite actor in 4? I really love the VA’s for both Soul and Maka. I think both the English and Japanese VAs were really able to get into the characters and make them come to life.  

Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5? Oh ouch. Why would you do this to me? It will always have to be 2. Sailor Moon is my dearest and oldest watched show. But I love all 3 so much. 

Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3 3 since it is a longer show lol. It has like 70 something episodes where 1 only has 12 lmao. 

If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be? Soul. I would love to rock that pinstripe suit all day every day. 

Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? Actually, it probably would! Shaman King focuses on ghosts and the supernatural, and Soul Eater is supernatural by default. I’m sure it would work. (I also may have started a fanfic of a crossover years ago lmao)

Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple? Nene and Sakura I think. They both have their reasons for making their bonds with the supernatural, so I think they could really find a common ground. 

Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5? If we’re going by the anime only, Mob Psycho 100 has a better storyline than Shaman King. Shaman King deviated too much from the source material and changed some very important things, whereas MP100 follows the manga almost to a T. 

Which has better theme music, 2 or 4? I love both of the openings of Soul Eater with my entire heart, but Sailor Moon definitely wins for me. It is such a classic that even people who haven’t watched Sailor Moon can recognize it!

tipsy’s top shows of 2017

hi! since homestuck’s over i’ve been exploring a lot of stuff, old and new, and ho boy there’s LOTS to talk about so, with what in some areas was very difficult ranking, here’s a list of my favourite cartoons! er, some of them arent actually from 2017, i just watched them this year.

1. adventure time. it’s adventure time, it was already amazing, but this year marks its comeback into my heart. what surprised me is how... honest it became since the start of season 8. like, characters would actually have meaningful emotional scenes with buildup instead of just shrugging it off  to be Fake Deep like before. and the thing is that when you have sincere moments, it makes the comedy that much better. Best episode: Three Buckets, the funniest and most tragic episode of the year.

2. Pokemon: sun and moon. now i’m not going to pretend the pokemon cartoon is great. i’m not even going to pretend it’s good. but sun and moon... there’s just something about this show that snuck into my heart. the wacky expressions, the nice animation, the actually friendly school environment where they got to do cool things and there are no bullies thank god. and while i initially watched waiting for it to do something cool like the games, i grew to appreciate it for what it is. Best Episode: Lillie, take good care of Pikachu! (ENG: The Ol’ Raise and Switch!), a really cute concept turned into a genuinely emotional development. 3. OK, K.O.! cartoon network’s newest big IP. i’m not straight up addicted to it like adventure time but it puts a smile on my face nearly every time, with its visual humor and unique art style. it helps that K.O. was originally voiced by Stephanie Naldony, who is Son Goku and Son Gohan in the original Dragonball dubs. i think the main trio of this series works well, their personalities clashing nicely, and their mentor relationship with mr gar is just.... i love it, okay? the big flaw here though is when they try to do an ep without K.O. in, it just seems to fall flat. anyway it’s hard to decide but Best Episode: Second First Date, cutesy flashbacks with a realistic and sweet modern development.

4. Mob Psycho 100! Mob! Mob! What do you want? Mob! Mob! What do you want? Mob! Mob! What do you want? Move, move JUST LIKE MOB!  anyway i loved this because it’s one of the few shows where the protagonist is actually the best character. if you’ve seen MP100, you’ll understand the timebomb scenario where Mob has a mental breakdown when he reaches 100 and unleashes an unpredictable psychic storm... but ANYTHING can happen... and the season finale blew me out of the water. nice characters, nice developments, best anime. Favourite episode: Mob and Reigen, the greatest payoff to a running gag I’ve ever seen. 

5. My Hero Academia. this one I finished watching just this weekend, so it’s all new to me, but... while season 1 turned me off because of deku’s constant whinging and pathetically unsympathetic backstory, season 2 with is focus on the other classmates made for an exciting story. there’s some cast members who are always going to make your life hell (cough grapehead cough) but i no longer feel like taking the piss out of it for being melodramatic. Best Episode:  Hero Killer: Stain vs U.A. Students, which was really nice buildup to the following ep suitably named “climax”, and showed off just how more skilled the characters are getting.

6. Kill La Kill. i don’t... remember if i actually watched it this year (probably watched it last year since i was making jokes about lusamine being a toned down ragyo?), but i’m listing it here anyway. what i disliked about KLK was how lewd it was, and i was made quite uncomfortable by the fucking pedophilia in episode 16, but this action romp is a blast with plenty of comedy and an interesting story that makes you think about the relationships we have both to each other and to social conventions like clothing. Anyway, pure adrenaline. Best episode: the one where ryuko and satsuki fight in the huge school war, i cant remember what its called. 

7. Steven Universe. it’s... not that SU is bad by any counts, this just has been a terrible year for the show. i’d argue SU has grown staler now than season 6 of AT was back in 2015, which is sad cos SU only started airing in late 2013. back in 2015 during the AT slump SU would have easily topped this list!!! anyway it continues to be a very charming show with WONDERFUL music, but it’s wasting away its characters and constantly stalling, and since nothing interesting or particularly funny happens, nobody tunes in. SU needs to develop more emotional range rather than banging in the same plot points again and again. Best Episode: The Trial, a refreshing, humorous, and mysterious change of pace after constant stagnation.

8. One Punch Man. yeah this show aired a few years ago. it marks the bottom of my 2015 shows list because, outside of its silly fun... there’s nothing to OPM? it’s just silly fun with a bit of nudity or whatever, and the same running gag. I’m going to be honest, i got really bored and wanted to leave the stream about halfway through. i do enjoy the action though especially when OPM flips. but i thik Mob Psycho 100 is a superior alternative that uses the same premise far more flexibly, and therefore more entertainingly. OPM is pretty generic. Best Episode: any ep with the biker guy in. he is the best character

EDIIIIT: Honorable Mention: Star vs the Forces of Evil! i... forgot that i watched this show. i’d rank it 6th, barely above KLK. while i can’t point out any outstanding quality about Star, it’s a cute and entertaining show. i haven’t watched any of season 3 though and have heard Mixed Reviews which is why i can’t place it any higher. best episode: ludo vs the eagle and spider
