10 Most Faced Moving Challenges And Some Methods To Solve Them
Tumblr media
10 Most Faced Moving Challenges And Some Methods To Solve Them
Moving to a new location in your own city or a different city is an exciting opportunity to live a new life in a new environment. But some problems are encountered while taking various steps to shift all your belongings to a new abode. These problems must not become unsolved obstacles and hinder your successful move.
Yes, it is possible to minimize many challenges that fall your way when you have planned your move. But you must be vigilant to bring tried and tested solutions to the dining table where things are being discussed moving plans. Your involvement in preparing the lists of tasks must be accompanied by a planned strategy to smoothen your relocation. Hire Kellogg Movers for safe and affordable moving company utah.
Here are a few problems that are faced during the process of moving and easy solutions that will save you energy and time.
1.   Large furniture or irregularly shaped items
The heavy furniture and objects that have always been decorating your house need a lot of effort to replace in a new location. Some double beds, wooden or iron almirahs, sofa sets, pianos, etc. are not easy to disassemble and relocate easily. So, take the help of the furniture moving company Utah with many years of experience in shifting every kind of piece without hassles and scratches. Rely on moving specialists to handle bulky and odd-designed furniture items with edges for safely reaching your new home of dreams.
Tumblr media
2.   Packaging stuff like plastics and cardboard
The packing materials like plastic sheets and containers made of cardboard or paper are a must for stocking all the necessary household things. It is necessary to purchase a lot of these in advance if you are planning to move to a new apartment. It will keep the delicate items safe that will be transported. Also, the chances of getting scratched will be reduced if proper packaging of the things is done before loading in the vehicle.
3.   Labeling boxes properly
When the stuff reaches your new home and you don’t remember where you packed the bedroom stuff and which box contains kitchenware, the situation is messier than you can imagine. So, take care to label all the boxes with details of the contents on the cardboard storage boxes. And it is important to label “THIS SIDE UP” on each box to open the box in the right direction. So, the problems of sorting out the things in the different rooms will vanish.
4.   Moving vehicles
The size of the moving vehicle is an important decision for the inter-city move. The trucks that can accommodate large furniture and boxes will be good if the weight to be transferred is more. Also if you wish to move your vehicles to a different city, vehicle relocation services can be hired to take care of two-wheelers and four-wheelers at affordable prices. Large container trucks are carrier vehicles for transporting cars and bikes without causing any damage is the services delivered at affordable prices.
5.   Hiring professionals
If you are in a fix if you need the help of a professional commercial moving company Utah for shifting office furniture or a residential moving company Salt Lake City for relocating to a new area, take advice from friends and family who have used professional services. It is an easy decision for the people who have to take care of their stuff every three years due to job transfer. They know the advantage of using help from the moving company or problems they face when managing the move.
6.   Time delays in transportation
The movers have proper schedules to follow for a planned move. Sometimes they arrive very late to the location and a useful day is wasted. So, make sure you are in touch with your moving company on the day of shifting right from the morning. Keep a track of the vehicle and confirm with the driver to stop any delay in the schedules.
7.   Excess of household things
Things are always adding in the house since the first day of your stay. So, when you are planning a move, it gives you a headache to sort out useful things from useless ones. But with a little time and effort, you can differentiate the stuff into categories and keep the most useful items for your convenience. You can sell and donate other useless things to downsize the stuff. If you are not sure about some furniture or vintage items, you can hire a separate storage place from a storage service provider that will stock your things temporarily for a period of time. The storage unit is away from your home, so you will be relieved that the house will look new and spacious.
8.   Dealing with breakage
Artworks and statues are valuable items in the household that need special attention while transporting. There are excellent packaging materials available for covering valuable glass crockery. Also using bubble wrap and plastic sheets for wrapping fragile items is a must to avoid breakage during the move.
9.   Advance booking for utilities
Utility services are the first things that are needed when you reach your new home. Electricity, gas connection, water, and the internet are the first things that you will use when you are settled. So, ask for all essential connections some days ahead of reaching your new location. Always confirm your arrival date with the companies that deal with water and electricity supply. Make sure to pay in advance to the internet company and the gas connection to avoid any inconvenience.
10.   Relocating with pets
Your loved ones like pets are more vulnerable when you are planning for relocation. The entire shifting process makes your cute pets tired and shocked at the same time. The professionals have expertise in dealing with pets. Packing all pet utilities in a separate box will be good. So keep a stock of pet food, feeding utensils for pets, medicines, sheets, and blankets. Also, put last but not least, the contact details of your pet’s vet, etc. in the same box.

Sometimes I just go crazy over 40-something, semi-retired pro hero Red Riot. Whose hair is black now with grey framing his face, thick and long and swept back in bun at his nape. Salt and pepper chest hair against deep bronze skin. Still built like a brick house but just a little softer around the edges than he used to be. Still broad-shouldered. Still barrel-chested. But now his strong stomach is blanketed with a thin layer of cushion, his abs not so deeply defined.
Instead of the overzealous enthusiasm that belied his youthful insecurities, he has taken on a more cool and confident demeanor. He has truly lived up to his moniker, the Sturdy Hero being a strong and stable presence to all. A sympathetic shoulder to lean on. A shield to guard against the worst this cruel and confusing world has created.
His naivety has waned with the comings and goings of war, with the loss of friends and colleagues and comrades-in-arms, but he's still standing. He's a little more worse for wear - popping joints, creaking bones, scars, and scar tissue - but he's grateful for the peace that retirement brings. Not everyone is so lucky, and he feels that loss like a punch in the gut. But he goes on, moves forward, carries the legacy of the best generation of heroes with him on his broad but bending back.
He's still all booming laughs and sharp teeth, genuine and sincere. But now the corners of his eyes have a charming crinkle. Now, a scar on his upper lip pulls at his smile. The tight stretch of the tissue makes him ever-aware of his joyful moments, a reminder that happiness isn’t always a painless thing, but sometimes requires a hard-won fight, and Kirishima Eijirou has never shied away from a fight.
He does with his days as he wants, and only once has he been called back into service, a mission that would have left all but the unbreakable hero mangled or dead. But villain attacks are few and far between these days, a peaceful era ushered in by destruction and ruin. It’s a bitter tradeoff, but that’s what they wanted, what they fought for, and there’s no arguing now with the dead.
He spends his time in his cabin in the country, relaxing on the lake in his boat or laying in a hammock on his porch, surrounded by the singing of cicadas and the twinkling of stars. He has a penthouse apartment in the city. Finely decorated, comfortable, and lonely.
Even he can’t fill so much empty space. Being a top 10 hero his whole career has left no time for relationships. Friends have always come easy, and he has fans in abundance. He can’t walk out of his door without being greeted with a friendly smile or an outstretched hand, words of gratitude or stares of awe. But when it has come to love he has just... ignored it.
Confident in his skills but never comfortable in his skin, he has always seen himself as a hero first and a lover dead last. So tall it’s inconvenient, so big it’s intimidating. His skin is coarse and calloused, his teeth are sharp and dangerous. He has tried, really, but it has never worked out. It’s just that it’s easier to tamp down the longing in his heart, to shy away from anything promising or hopeful, pretending like he doesn’t secretly ache and want. Sometimes it’s just easier to concede that maybe he’s meant to be alone.

if you’re hearing I LIKE YOU (A HAPPIER SONG) by POST MALONE & DOJA CAT playing, you have to know MILAN “MILLY” EDWARDS (SHE/HER; CIS WOMAN) is near by! the THIRTY-THREE year old HOTEL MANAGER has been in denver for, like, ONE YEAR. they’re known to be quite OPINIONATED, but being ADAPTABLE seems to balance that out. or maybe it’s the fact that they resemble LAURA HARRIER. personally, i’d love to know more about them seeing as how they’ve got those SOUND OF A BELL RINGING, SIGHING AFTER A STUPID PHONE CALL, LIVING OFF TV DINNERS AND TAKEOUT, YEARNING FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER vibes. and maybe i’ll get my chance if i hang out around the DOWNTOWN DISTRICT long enough!
STATS:
full name :       milan ramona edwards
nickname(s) :     milly
birthplace :      miami, florida
date of birth :       01 / 01 / 1990
parentage :      elizabeth washington edwards & jeffrey edwards
relationship status :     single
gender identity :     cis woman ( she/her )
sexual orientation :     heterosexual
faceclaim :      laura harrier
BACKGROUND:
born in miami, florida to two… trying parents.
in no way was milan planned. in actuality, milan’s conception was meant to be no more than one last hurrah before her father left salt lake city, utah to fort hood in killeen, texas to join the military base
however, two and a half months later, sergeant jeffrey edwards receives a letter from the one and only elizabeth washington saying she’s pregnant and it has to be his
trying to do things the traditional way, the two find a way to get elizabeth to killeen and situated. around elizabeth’s four month mark, elizabeth and jeffrey decide to elope, tethering themselves together forever.
it’s around six and half months that the edwards’ are told they’re being relocated to florida.
milan isn’t due until mid january, but decides she wants to spend new years with her parents. she’s born on january 1, 1990 to a twenty-four year old jeffrey and a twenty-five year old elizabeth.
she spends the first year of her life in florida, but it’s at age one the edwards’ are told to move to seattle, and age three they’re told to move to washington d.c.
stability had never been a word milan was all too familiar with, seeing how she never lived in the same town for longer than two years at a time up until the age of eighteen
despite attending numerous public schools both on and off bases, milan had to really rely on herself if she wanted to retain any information. jumping from schools in the middle of the year always left her at a loss. either she was joining a new school ahead or behind where everyone else was.
neither of her parents were educated past the secondary level, but her mom tried to help her whenever she had time
luckily, the books and work she did seemed to be a constant in her life, which motivated her to do the work on her own. while the content of the work may have been inconsistent based on relocations, the expectation remained the same.
if she can’t control anything going on around her, she can control her own person. her grades were always good, and she always took really good care of herself. as she entered her pre-teen / teen years, she began reading different fashion magazines to figure out what to do with her hair, skin, and makeup. something she’s always had, though, is an incredible care for her teeth. it’s at age thirteen she decides she wants to go into dentistry when she gets older.
when she’s fifteen years old, jeffrey edwards is discharged from his military services. after living on bases all around the country, he decides he wants to settle down in vancouver, bc.
living in vancouver from ages fifteen to eighteen meant she was going to have a new record for place she’s lived the longest.
it’s not until things have really settled that milan notices her parents don’t seem to have the connection she thought they did. with the chaos of moving all the time with two parents working, it was never apparent to milan that they might not be a good match.
things are tense, and she hears harsh whispers across the hall when her parents believe she’s asleep.
still, they refuse to divorce. milan is almost out of the house, then they can be free to live life as they wish. after giving her years of instability, the last thing they want to do is spring yet another new life change on her. sometimes she wishes they had.
to get away from it all and back to what she’s familiar with, milan looks for a school in the states where she can get a degree in dental hygiene.
at age eighteen she moves to sacramento, california to attend carrington college. the program promises licensure in less than two years, and the sooner milan can get herself to a normal life, the better.
when she’s twenty and unfortunately after some mishaps with fiscal services and payments, milan is halfway through her program. just one more year and she’s done. and that’s when she meets her first boyfriend. she’s never been in one place long enough to really care to meet anyone, so this man is both nerve-wracking and exciting.
he is good to her. in fact, she’s never felt more COMFORTABLE in her life. with his love and support, the last year of the program is a breeze and she passes her licensing exams with flying colors.
she’s twenty-three and a year into her new job when she messes things up ROYALLY. her boyfriend’s sister is now engaged, and milan begins to think. she begins thinking of her parents timeline versus where her and her boyfriend were. they were almost the age her parents were when they had her. her parents never had the heart to tell her the truth about her conception, and although she knows their relationship is not good, she has no one else to look up to. she didn’t meet many friends parents growing up, and her parents would talk to more people on each base than she could keep up with.
for the first time in her life, milan is not fully in control of herself. sure, for the most part, everything is her choice. but wanting to be married was a decision they both had to make, and it didn’t seem like he was going to budge. before she knows it, she’s pushed too hard and he’s moving his things out.
not long after that, her parents finally decide to pull the plug on their own marriage as well. a cherry on top of the shit cake life had seemed to hand her.
with everything she knows crashing down around her, she feels herself spiraling. being a dental hygienist is not nearly as fulfilling as milan had planned for it to be, but the gig did come with some pretty decent benefits.
it’s the only way she can afford therapy. while she desperately needs multiple years to unpack everything she needs to deal with, it only takes a year for her to decide she needs to find a new job.
when her and her boyfriend were together, she was always the one planning dinners and parties, and she always felt her calmest when doing so. her therapist suggests it gives her the opportunity to have control, something she’d lacked the majority of her life. so, getting a degree in hospitality management and seeking jobs in that field seems like a no brainer.
she’s twenty-nine when she finally finishes school for the second time. she knows through social media that her ex has found his way to denver, colorado, and seems to have found peace for himself.
they haven’t spoken since he in years, but she ( hesitantly ) reaches out to catch up. she asks how he’s liking the city and what it’s done for him. in the end, she asks if denver is big enough for the both of them. ❛ I WANT SOME OF THAT PEACE YOU’VE GOT, ❜ she jokes.
to her surprise, he says yes. she goes back to work as a dental hygienist while planning small events on her off time. that, and selling most of the things still remaining in the apartment she never moved out of, seemed to be a bit lucrative. she saves enough money to get her to denver by february 2022, and her parents were kind enough to chip in what they could to help.
she quickly found a job at a hotel-- a receptionist, but there’s always room for growth. she moves up fairly quickly. it’s not long before she’s promoted to hotel manager.
she’s currently still trying to find her footing of life in a new(ish) town with a new(ish) career. overall, my girl is strugglin !!!!!

World Running Down by Al Hess
Valentine Weis is a salvager in the future wastelands of Utah. Wrestling with body dysphoria, he dreams of earning enough money to afford citizenship in Salt Lake City – a utopia where the testosterone and surgery he needs to transition is free, the food is plentiful, and folk are much less likely to be shot full of arrows by salt pirates. But earning that kind of money is a pipe dream, until he meets the exceptionally handsome Osric.
Once a powerful AI in Salt Lake City, Osric has been forced into an android body against his will and sent into the wasteland to offer Valentine a job on behalf of his new employer – an escort service seeking to retrieve their stolen androids. The reward is a visa into the city, and a chance at the life Valentine’s always dreamed of. But as they attempt to recover the “merchandise”, they encounter a problem: the android ladies are becoming self-aware, and have no interest in returning to their old lives. The prize is tempting, but carrying out the job would go against everything Valentine stands for, and would threaten the fragile found family that’s kept him alive so far. He’ll need to decide whether to risk his own dream in order to give the AI a chance to live theirs.
Book page: https://angryrobotbooks.com/books/world-running-down/
My Review: When I read the plot I thought it should have been a sort of dystopia with hard characters and a androids/AI rebellion. I was wrong: it’s a story set in a world that is not very different from the one we live in with a cast of sweet and intriguing characters. It’s poignant, sweet, moving and gripping. It made me smile and cry, I rooted for Valentine and Oscric and hope in a HEA like I was reading a romantic novel. Valentine is well rounded and lovely character: he’s fighting to read his goal but he’s never bitter or harsh. There’s a lot of sufferance, there’s moving representation of dysphoria but this character has no chip on his shoulder. Oscric is the Stewart AI that was forced into an android body. A funny and complex character I loved since I met him. The author is a very talented storyteller and deliver a cast of well-developed characters, a tightly knitted plot and a complex world building. I would happy to meet again these characters, I will surely read other books by this author. Strongly recommended. Many thanks to Angry Robots and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
The Author: Al Hess is the author of the self-published post-apocalyptic Travelers series and the 1930s flavoured dystopian series, Hep Cats of Boise.  When not hunched before a computer screen, Al can be found at his art desk. He does portraits in both pencil and oil paint, and loves drawing fellow authors’ characters nearly as much as his own. He writes cozy and uplifting stories with queer, trans, and neurodiverse representation.

ffxiv the loches to the end of 4.0
exploring the loches and fates its clear that ala mhigo has a very strong history of monarchy, stronger than what is shown for doma. a parallel is that both doma and ala mhigo are nationalistic and seek independence from garlemand, and they are both nations that are historically monarchies. doma rallies around the idea of a king, the king as a representation of a nation, and after a period without a monarch seeks to reinstate the monarchy. ala mhigo is also kingless but seems to be moving away from the idea of a king.
damn this man has been hiding out in the salt monastery, get him some food and water.
thanks for the convenient plot device to beat fordola urianger. i haven't seen you all expansion. speaking of people who haven't shown up what are the acsians up to didn't see them much in 3.0 either. ffxiv has had a long standing problem of juggling multiple plots the main ones set up in arr are the ascians light vs dark and the garleans global polimilitary conflict.
the salt lake is giant, it takes half the horizontal surface area of the map and there's an entire city down here
there's no way the player character knows how to operate garlean technology. this is sora at the computer.
the ala mhigan quarter has so many alleys. this map is useless. why does gyr abania have the special ishgardian black chocobos?
and now after 9 levels omega is back. uriange using us in his double blind experiments.
I think the writers forgot that limsa lomisa is a lalafellin name because they seem to be under the impression that its a seawolf city.
oooh they added yelling intot he background noises. nice touch
hien really did fly across a continent. ah on yolback. i was wondering why they didn't run into the same problems we faced going to doma in that moving an army across imperial controlled waters is going to spark a war. but if he only brought a few people that makes more sense. although i dont see any of the mol or xaela. when did yugiri get a yol. the doman forces might have been more effective drawing garleans forces to doma and away from ala mhigo. that door, it would have been so much easier just to unlock it but that would also have been much harder and riskier.
Tumblr media
the story is obviously not going that way its just not how its written but raubahn could have been the new ala mhigo leader. conrad says that he wanted someone who has lived outside of garlean occupation and was more widely traveled than himself and raubhn fits the bill. politically speaking lyse is the family of two famous revolutionaries but raubahn is even more famous as the bull of ala mhigo and general of the immortal flames. he also has the proven battle and leadership record that lyse lacks. additionally here in the battle for ala mhigo he's made pipin lead general and is fighting not as a general but just as a soldier so he is willing to give up command and the flames would be fine without him. but on a personal level i see why it makes sense in character for him not to. now that illberd is dead his strongest ties are in ul'dah with nanamo and pipin. most importantly is that 4.0 isn't raubahn's story, its lyse's. She's the main character here and most things are written in service of her character arc instead of what would actually make sense.
I've said it earlier but I do really like how 4.0 centers the stories of women. I didn't even realized how bereft heavenward was of lead female characters until I got to 4.0 and it was the lyse, yugiri, and alisae show. basically until hien gets introduced on the azim steppe, lyse, yugiri, and alisae are the ones driving the plot they're the main characters and I do like that.
duty support for ala mhigo is interesting. you got tank arenvald, dps raubahn and lyse, and healer alphinaud so you cannot have everyone at once. of the 4 alphinaud is the least plot relavent but i refuse to play healer. not after it took me 5 attempts to clear battem's mettle. I may run this a couple times to see what dialogue I get.
my ilevel is so low i shoule not have run this as tank. wow the the dungeon end scene's really evolved used to be final fantasy victory music and then the pc jump excitedly and now its just a camera pan
jp zenos voice actor is doing a job. zenos usually sound soooo bored and now he's excited and deranged. did zenos just compare the wol to the primal he's trapped in a cage, illberd's primal.
Tumblr media
localizations this time round have been pretty good. but i noticed this line is a bit different, i wasn't listening too closely but it was something like "I've never had so much fun".
Tumblr media
zenos seems lonely. desperate for a connection and not accustomed to having one. also lol got him monologue-ing. he offers the hand of friend and wants to be rejected what a messed up little man. zenos has never had a friend. reminds me of those chronically online people with no friends but who are desperately lonely and they're doing these mental gymnastics and justifications for nothing. damn zenos is projecting HARD onto the player character. like pc is just standing there while zenos rants about how they must be the same.
Tumblr media
wait wait did zenos just call the wol yuuitsu tomo like his one and only friend or the only friend for him. bruh you've never even had a full conversation with this person. ok wow a lot of lines are different I'm going to have to go look up the japanese version later.
zenos fused with a primal. how does that even work? probably more aether bs.
wow the game forces a sunset for this part of the game
seriously, last duty of 4.0 and not a single ascian this entire patch. devs really did give up on explaining why every boss fight is now on a platform in the void
see he's showing blood that's how you know he's scripted to die. suicide? edgy.
the price of freedom
THE FUCKING EYES ARE STILL THERE. and now the ascians show up after not seeing them since 3.x. what has y'shtola been doing since she was injured? uuuuuuugggg zenos said he used omega's power to trap shinryuu... so where's omega? the cidnero divorce saga continues! they were business associates
empires, occupation, communities diaspora
lyse is the main character. foil is hien. both monarchies kingship symbol of what doma lost.
zenos is under utilized his most interesting part is his final scene. but he also had to kill himself there because now that he has reached the meaning of his existence there was nothing left but the void again. miserable pathetic loser. having an existential crisis faced with the reality that his life his empty he continues to seek the only thing that can make him feel anything, the innate fear of death when he is on the brink of it.

Tumblr media
The sound of a knife cutting through vegetables was a softness that joined the forest pathway, the surrounding woodlands a glow with fireflies and the moon above just about peeking over clouds and lake front. It was a new spot, somewhere his Dad suggested he set up for today through text and for once, Hiro listened instead of remaining in the human cities out of convenience.
He didn't have to go to classes or anywhere forced upon him so the venture out into the wilderness with his work was a good new stretch for his legs. The night was a while away when he set out, but now he was fully set up… preparing for his patrons that he no doubt would be seeing soon.
His gaze didn't move much from his hands as he snapped his knives through what he needed. Making sure everything was set up in their wooden boxes to savour flavour and freshness. A boiling bowl of water - soon turned into a simmering broth for oden in the chilly hours to come. He gave a polite sniff as he sliced daikon, yam and peeled boiled eggs from their bowl to place into the broth with wooden spoons. The smell only amplified as he moved the lid off and let it flow into the area.
Tumblr media
He couldn't help but give a soft smirk, it was a great batch of this broth. Took him years to master it from under his Mom's hands but now he's got it to a T. That and his ramen broth - that felt like a mere blink to make now. Slicing bite sized vegetables up once again to place into the brother to soak it up, he wiped down his surfaces once he got everything on the go.
Debating if he'll add tofu skewers as he pulled apart a table for four outside his little area. Stools added, a couple of chairs, more tables… It was an eatery in the wilderness, a place to enjoy a good meal. Paper lanterns were the last to be sparked up, a fly repellent smoke mix in its middle burned above the candle he sparked and with that. He was ready for his first customers for today…
Tumblr media
His tail wavered into existence with a thick explosion of fur - thankfully no fly away hairs, and his ears rounded off, extending from where his human guise stood. Stretching his tail out and popping his neck - he gave the moon one more glance before sighing out. "Ganbare, me… "
His hand rose his to grasp onto the noren, twirling the material open and hooking it into place with a wind chime deafening the surroundings in its gentleness. The fabric fluttered in a breeze made by the smell of his food and a path made by ghost-flames ignited to show a way for him from the main road. Hiro tugged out a bandana to cover his hair and tied it into place with a soft huff behind his head. "Open for business." Muttered to himself as he stepped back into his stalls' kitchen place and plucked out several bowls and platters to fill with Edamame lightly salted to place on his wooden service front.

High Stakes and Friendship Breaks, S3 E11
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 3 Episode 11 Recap
My Title: "The Heather Black Eye Reveal Episode"
My rating: 5 out of 7 budget Marilyns
Support for Lisa Barlow: Very strong
<><><>
How in Goddess' name are we only on Day 2 of San Diego?
Meredith is making eggs. Good Angie, Whitney, and Lisa lounge by or in the pool, talking about how Jen's behavior was unacceptable and also Heather is being a bitch for no reason. It's nice to know that the schisms formed in the last episode have survived the weeklong programming break and remained intact. Will Jen or Heather answer for their crimes?
Lisa leaves to go eat a single Kit Kat. Best Frenemies Forever Good Angie and Jen convene in the master bedroom. They are unintentionally matching, as is their tendency.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Heather is talking to Lisa in the kitchen. Heather points out that Jen has a toxic relationship with nearly every member of the cast, and a short montage plays to confirm that Jen has cussed each one out on camera. (Except Whitney!) Then Heather breaks down a bit and acknowledges how fractured her relationship with Jen has become.
Speaking to God or Jen Shah, Heather asks for "a little bit of grace," as she has done in nearly every episode of this season.
(Heather also acknowledges that she and Lisa usually bear the brunt of Jen's rage. Hopefully that means she will begin to treat Lisa with respect in mixed company, but I doubt it!)
Let's go to the beach! each!
Tumblr media
The sprinter van proceeds to the destination without incident.
It seems somebody (Jen using Angie's credit card?) booked a service that sets up chairs, organizes a picnic, and is staffed by two indentured musical theatre majors for their day a la plage. It looks fun!
The ladies separate into two teams to play games and it almost goes well. When time is called on the sandcastle building contest, Yellow Team Captain Whitney runs over to Team Blue (Heather, Jen, Angie) and demolishes their build. This prompts Jen to bowl into Whitney during the sack race. Bubble soccer is basically sumo wrestling mediated by enormous plastic armor — Danna body slams Jen and Heather to the ground. Team Yellow Wins, and Team Blue has a hissy fit. But there is no verbal argument to follow, probably because the ladies left it all in the ring.
Some of the women go surfing while Jen, Heather, and Lisa sojourn to the boardwalk for lite bites and confrontation.
Tumblr media
Jen apologizes for her yacht behavior in abstract. (In specific: She yelled at Lisa, pushed her, threw a crudité platter into the sea and called it a charcuterie board, and then fell asleep.) The night before she did not even recall any of it, and I'd wager that she still doesn't, but wants to move on.
(The other insane thing Jen did last episode — defenestrating Angie's $1,500 shoes like they were a charcuterie board — appears to be forgiven and forgotten.)
Hedda's turn! Jen is mad that Heather is still friends with Bad Angie; Heather is mad that Jen was talking shit about her in Whitney's enormous hot tub.
(I didn't understand the scale of Whitney's hot tub until this episode. It's a small heated pool!)
Tumblr media
Jen denies talking shit in the hot tub. (She was talking shit in the hot tub!)
Heather tries to describe how it feels to be Jen's friend: "The sun doesn't shine on the same dog's ass every day."
Jen says: "You flip-flop so much, you should be wearing flip-flops!" Sick burn, nana!
The tension is building like the Empire State. As it always is, when you're dealing with Jen! Heather is describing to Jen how she tends to escalate the situation, using three solid examples from the previous 36 hours. Heather also notes to us, the viewers, in her confessional that she can see Jen running out of viable beef, signaling either her departure from the conversation or her upping the ante 1000 degrees.
Can you guess which way she went?
You're absolutely right—great guess! In the raspy, furious baritone to which we have unfortunately become attuned, Jen scream-admits that she attempted suicide after finding out about the @shahexposed finstagram. And then she departs the conversation, taking her drink to a table in the back.
[BK's Take: I do not find Jen Shah to be trustworthy in any domain. However, we have no good reason not to believe her when she tells Heather and Lisa that she "almost committed suicide, tried to", that she locked herself in the bathroom, that Coach Shah had to break down the door, and that she spent two days in the hospital following the episode. It was a very shocking moment for all present and me, not least because it was Jen's response to Heather asking, once again, if she can't be friends with Angie H. I am very sorry to Jen and her family.]
Tumblr media
[For many reasons!]
Jen's admission causes Heather and Lisa to drop their arguments and rally to her side, tending to her in the manner of a wounded bird. But not before Heather and Lisa privately confer: Yes, Jen is psychotic, but let's just shower her with love when she's in the room.
Jen and her emotional support Mormons board the sprinter van bound for Chez Angie, while the surfing women (remember them?) do the same. Tonight's the Marilyn Monroe party, ladies — and Whitney brought the Amazon wigs!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Am I a philistine, or is this a crudité board (no meats or cheeses)? Please let me know in the comments.
The ladies Monroe sit down [BK's Take: Danna is most Marilyn, Heather is best look, Lisa is soooo mother and I love her, Jen brought the only wig that cost more than $28.99 but it's so wrong and looks out of place] and are convivial for about eight seconds. Meredith asks Heather, Jen, and Lisa about their lunch, which prompts silence. It seems at first like they will speak only in abstract and quickly moves on, but Whitney makes the fatal error of asking a follow-up question.
Jen snaps. "Since you wanna go digging," "Since you're so inquisitive," YEAH, I tried to SUICIDE over ANGIE HARRINGTON'S HUSBAND'S FINSTAGRAM.
Whitney is in more than the hot seat -- she is practically splayed out across the crudite platter, and about to be served raw to Jen Shah! (What did we think of that joke? Again, let me know in the comments. And thank you to my readers—both of you!)
Tumblr media
What happens next is very sad, but also very satisfying. Maybe a little bit like eating too much ice cream. Slowly, one by one, the women take Whitney to task for her role in spreading baseless rumors and occasionally true but inflammatory knowledge. Example of the former: Talking about Lisa giving sex favors for free Utah Jazz tickets. Example of the latter: parroting back to Heather what Jen said in her seasize hot tub.
Even Meredith, who has been jingling decoratively all episode, opens her mouth against the Wild Rose! (Whit implicated Meredith in spreading the Jizz for Jazz rumors.) Whitney keeps propping up new defenses for each angry housewife, but none of them hold up. She would be better off annihilating them all in one caustic confession, Shah-style!
I do have to hand it to her when she tells Meredith that she's sorry if she betrayed her trust, but Meredith DID talk that shit about Lisa. And Whitney remembers that day perfectly because Meredith was so boring: Whitney made them do dishes because just talking was so awkward.
Tumblr media
As if making anything remotely close a point, Whitney explains that she KNEW Meredith wanted to talk shit when she walked in the door, and that's why they had to do the dishes...?
Whitney literally says: "I'm a vibes girl."
Lisa interjects to say that we've all made mistakes, but then Whitney doubles down on "accountability." So then Heather takes the opportunity to say to Jen, can you be accountable for what you said about me in the huge enormous hot tub? And Jen masterfully says, Yes I can. It all started with Whitney saying she's taking a friend break from you...
This is news to Heather.
Tumblr media
It's just like Don Draper said: If you don't like what they're saying, change the conversation!
From here on out Heather and Whitney engage in a verbal bout that goes nowhere but in the same circles. Whitney's fillings are hurt and she is processing trauma and Heather won't listen to her or treat her with grace. Heather, to Whitney's point, won't. She cannot even let Whitney land two complete sentences without interrupting her. Watching it is exasperating.
Heather keeps bringing Lisa into it, too. Why??
Tumblr media
The conversation goes nowhere and then it's time to go somewhere else. Did anybody eat anything? Whatever. Jen Shah is like, let's go to a gay bar!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tons of fun. Heather is hot on the mic being like "Fuck Whitney" !
The ladies return to the Airbnb with pizzas in hand. It's 2 AM — Jen and Heather are topless and running around. Lisa goes to bed, as does Whitney, both in good spirits. Jen, Heather, and ... Meredith? are laughing in various states of undress.
3 AM slumber party!
Tumblr media
Wait holy shit. I had thought Bravo was adding time stamps to demonstrate just how loose the ladies were letting, but after 3:00, we start getting more minute updates -- who is going to bed at 3:12, who is walking down the corridor at 3:23 -- and then I realize that we are on the precipice of a moment I have waited for since the trailer for the season dropped:
Heather's Black Eye!!!!!!!!!!!!
At some point the cameras switch to the house's (extensive?) surveillance system. We see everybody go to bed, last (?) of all Heather, at 3:24, entering the casita where she is staying. Then, at 4:50, we see the door handle jiggle, and hear a knock, and see a Heather going to answer it. Who was on the other side?
Seven hours later Meredith is summoned to Heather's room. She takes off her sunglasses dramatically to reveal:
Tumblr media
When I saw the Eye in the season trailer months ago, I thought it was some cosmetic reaction that was going to be played for laughs. But the fact that the show is telling the story like a full murder mystery has caught me by surprised, and now I'm hooked. Did somebody beat Heather up at 4:50 AM? Was it Lisa Barlow, or do we have a way we can blame Lisa Barlow for it?
That's why it's called BRAVO, folks. I'm clapping! Can't wait to tune in next week. Thanks for reading! -BK

Sleuthing Ricky Hauk's Gas Station 😌
So I was watching baby Pedro Pascal in his Touched by an Angel TV episode that aired in 2000, where he plays shy budding-poet-trapped-as-a-mechanic Ricky Hauk, and I was like...WHY does this yellow gas/service station look familiar? I feel like I have seen it before.
Tumblr media
And THEN I remembered...OH MY STARS, Touched by an Angel was filmed in Utah! I've (unfortunately) lived in Utah for 20 years now, and even before I moved here the circles I ran in at the time loved that cheesy show and held it as a point of pride that the series was filmed here. 🙄
Because I'm RIDICULOUS, I then went on a mission to FIND that damn gas station. The show reveals the building number (390) as Pedro exits the front door in one shot, and since Salt Lake City is on a grid system I figured I could find it, but only if it was even filmed here and not some other city or town...here's footage of me scouring google maps/street view 😆:

Oh to hug Pedro Pascal in an endless loop...
I still haven't recovered from The Hug to End All Hugs between Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna at the D23 Expo 2022 last weekend, their body language is SO genuine and sincere and joyful and tender it makes my heart want to burst into a million fluffy pieces.
Wanted to isolate and slow down this moment of preciousness...we are all Diego, imbibing the goodness that radiates from this human bean yah? 🥰🥰.

Having LOST MY MIND along with the rest of y'all today, I wanted to gaze at that Vanity Fair smolder and wind-blown hair moment slowed down as much as possible...the flashing reflective lights made it uber jittery and the slow motion janky, but I wrestled with Adobe Premiere waaaaay too long tonight (and was so proud at removing the photographer's hand that was in the shot with awful motion tracking 😆) to keep this shitty gif all to mahself...enjoy! 😎

Anyone wants some Housing first?
Housing First is a policy that offers unconditional, permanent housing as quickly as possible to homeless people, and other supportive services afterward. It was first discussed in the 1990s, and in the following decades became government policy in certain locations within the Western world.[1] There is a substantial base of evidence showing that Housing First is both an effective solution to homelessness and a form of cost savings, as it also reduces the use of public services like hospitals, jails, and emergency shelters.[2] Cities like Helsinki and Vienna in Europe have seen dramatic reductions in homelessness due to the adaptation of Housing First policies,[3][4] as have the North American cities Columbus, Ohio, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Medicine Hat, Alberta.[5][6][7][8][9][10]
Housing First is an alternative to a system of emergency shelter/transitional housing progressions. Rather than moving homeless individuals through different "levels" of housing, whereby each level moves them closer to "independent housing" (for example: from the streets to a public shelter, and from a public shelter to a transitional housing program, and from there to their own apartment or house in the community), Housing First moves the homeless individual or household immediately from the streets or homeless shelters into their own accommodation.
Housing First approaches are based on the concept that a homeless individual or household's first and primary need is to obtain stable housing, and that other issues that may affect the household can and should be addressed once housing is obtained. In contrast, many other programs operate from a model of "housing readiness" — that is, that an individual or household must address other issues that may have led to the episode of homelessness prior to entering housing.
Housing first strategy is a unique idea, as it is a comprehensive solution incorporating support for homeless people in all aspects of their personal and social life. It does not intend to provide housing for the people in need and forget about them.[11] [12] [13] [14] The housing first philosophy is a paradigm shift, where quick provision of stable accommodations is a precondition for any other treatment to reduce homelessness. Meanwhile, this approach relies on layers of collaborative support networks that promote stability and eliminate factors that cause or prolong homelessness. The supporting system addresses issues such as healthcare, education, family and children, employment, and social welfare.[15] [16]

The solution to homelessness is housing.

Timeline of passenger railroad service and the railroad yard in Las Vegas
Railroad Yards, c. 1907. Railroad Shops and Yards, c. 1912.
‘01: William A. Clark forms the San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad Co (SPLA&SL) for the purpose of building a railroad line from the docks in San Pedro, CA, to the railroad hub in Salt Lake City. Clark and Union Pacific (UP) became equal partners in the company. Construction begins with a planned route through Las Vegas.
‘02: Clark buys Las Vegas Ranch and water rights from Helen Stewart, gains right of way for SPLA&SL line.
‘04: Railroad tracks reach Las Vegas.
‘05: “Silver spike” near Jean on 1/30 marks completion of the line. The railroad forms subsidiary Las Vegas Land & Water Co. (LVL&W) for the city's land and water sales. Las Vegas Depot opens 5/1.
‘06: Las Vegas Ice House built; destroyed in fire and rebuilt two years later.
‘09: SPLA&SL begins construction of shops and roundhouse; completed two years later.
‘16: Company renamed Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad (LA&SL).
‘21: UP buys Clark's share of LA&SL; name and logo are phased out. UP calls the line the Salt Lake Route.
‘22: Railroad workers strike, Jul-Sep. After the strike UP closed the machine shop; machinery was shipped to Los Angeles, and the buildings were torn down.
‘36: UP debuts Streamliner “City of Las Vegas” train, L.A. to Chicago.
‘40: Union Pacific Depot opens; first completely air conditioned station in the U.S.
‘48: UP and Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce launch Desert Sea News Bureau (aka Las Vegas News Bureau) to promote Las Vegas. UP’s partnership in the effort ends a year later.
‘52: UP agrees to sell the LVL&W to Las Vegas Valley Water District. With completion of the same in two years UP and LVL&W turn over all water distribution properties, springs, wells, pumping and storage facilities, and water bearing lands. The RR yard remains.
‘54: UP builds landmark water tower.
‘56: UP debuts Aerotrain “City of Las Vegas”; replaced with a conventional train after 9 months. Decline in patronage caused reduction to one train a day each way by late 50s. “City of Las Vegas” renamed “Las Vegas Holiday Special” in ‘62.
‘70: UP depot closes; demolished in Nov.
‘71: Union Plaza opens on site of former depot; Amtrak service established and passenger service through Las Vegas suspended.
‘79: Amtrak launches Desert Wind, first regularly scheduled service since ‘71.
‘88: Plans to move the rail yard out of downtown finalized; UP owns 320 acres in the area at this time. Ice House destroyed by fire.
‘91: UP water tower demolished.

Designing or revamping your home’s interior is an exciting process, especially in a vibrant city like Kolkata, where culture, history, and modernity blend seamlessly.
However, one crucial aspect that can sometimes overshadow the excitement is budgeting.
Whether you’re planning to give your home a small makeover or a full-fledged renovation, setting a realistic budget is essential.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through practical steps to effectively budget for interior design in Kolkata, ensuring that you transform your home without breaking the bank.

The Impact of Budgeting in Kolkata: A Comprehensive Overview
1. Understand the Scope of Your Project
Before diving into budgeting, it's important to understand the scope of your project. Ask yourself these questions:
Are you renovating a single room or the entire house?
Do you need structural changes (like moving walls or altering windows)?
Are you looking for a complete overhaul, including new furniture, decor, and lighting, or just updating a few elements?
Defining the scope will give you a better understanding of the scale of your budget. For instance, renovating a small apartment in Kolkata's older neighbourhoods may cost less compared to larger homes in upscale areas like Ballygunge or Salt Lake.
2. Set a Realistic Budget Based on the Market
Kolkata offers a wide range of interior design services, from luxury to budget-friendly. On average, interior design costs in the city can range from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 per square foot, depending on the complexity of the design and the materials used. For example:
A simple makeover focusing on aesthetics like wall paint, lighting, and decor may cost ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 per square foot.
Mid-range designs with custom furniture, modern fittings, and moderate structural changes might push the budget to ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 per square foot.
A high-end renovation with premium materials, smart home technology, and bespoke design could range from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 per square foot.
To ensure you’re budgeting correctly, it’s a good idea to get quotes from multiple designers in Kolkata. Don’t hesitate to ask for itemized estimates that break down the costs of materials, labor, and other expenses.
3. Allocate Funds for Different Aspects of the Project
When budgeting, it's essential to break down your total budget into categories:
Furniture and Fixtures (40% of total budget): Furniture and custom-built elements can take up a significant portion of your budget, especially if you're opting for high-quality materials. Consider visiting places like New Market and Gariahat for affordable furniture, or opting for custom-made pieces if you want something unique.
Lighting (10% of total budget): Lighting is a key aspect of interior design, and it’s worth investing in. You can find budget-friendly and decorative lighting options in areas like Chandni Chowk.
Painting and Wallpapers (10% of total budget): Wall treatments, including painting and wallpaper, are another area to consider. Depending on the materials you choose, this can be a moderate cost.
Labor and Professional Fees (20-30% of total budget): Always include labour costs and the fees for hiring an interior designer. This fee can vary depending on the designer’s experience and reputation in Kolkata.
Miscellaneous Costs (10% of total budget): Always leave room for unexpected expenses, whether it's repairs, additional decor, or last-minute changes.
4. Consider Affordable Alternatives
If you’re working on a tight budget, Kolkata offers plenty of affordable alternatives for materials, furniture, and decor. Here are some tips to help you save without compromising on style:
Go Local: Kolkata is home to a variety of local artisans and craftsmen who can provide custom furniture, upholstery, and decor at a fraction of the cost of big-brand stores.
Visit Markets: Gariahat Market and Bara Bazar are treasure troves for affordable home decor, furnishings, and even lighting fixtures. You can find unique items that reflect Kolkata’s rich cultural heritage.
Repurpose Old Furniture: If you're on a strict budget, consider repurposing existing furniture. A fresh coat of paint or new upholstery can make a world of difference.
Use Multi-Functional Furniture: Opt for furniture that serves more than one purpose, like a sofa bed or a coffee table with storage, to save both space and money.
5. Prioritize Your Needs
It's easy to get carried away with trends and fancy decor, but remember to prioritize your needs over wants. If you're on a budget, focus on the essentials first:
Functional furniture
Adequate lighting
Good quality flooring
After these basics are in place, you can allocate leftover funds to decorative elements like art, rugs, and curtains. Don’t rush; you can always add smaller decorative items over time as your budget allows.
6. Plan for the Long Term
Investing in quality materials and timeless designs might seem expensive upfront, but it’s a smart move in the long run. Instead of opting for the cheapest options available, consider spending a bit more on durable, long-lasting materials. This way, you won’t need frequent repairs or replacements, saving you money in the future.
For example, instead of cheap plywood furniture, opt for solid wood or engineered wood, which is more durable. Similarly, invest in energy-efficient lighting to reduce electricity bills in the long run.
7. Consult with Interior Designers
Even if you’re trying to save money, consulting with a professional interior designer can help you avoid costly mistakes. In Kolkata, many designers offer budget-friendly packages, including consultations or partial design services. They can help you:
Maximize your space
Choose affordable materials
Create a cohesive look without overspending
Look for designers with a portfolio that matches your taste and budget. Additionally, consider checking online reviews or asking for recommendations from friends and family in Kolkata.
8. Track Your Spending
It’s essential to keep track of your expenses throughout the project. Create a spreadsheet to monitor costs and compare them to your initial budget. This will help you make adjustments if you’re going over budget in one area. It also ensures that you have a clear idea of where your money is going, allowing you to make informed decisions along the way.
9. Account for Kolkata-Specific Factors
There are a few Kolkata-specific factors to consider when budgeting for interior design:
Weather: The humid climate can affect the choice of materials. Opt for moisture-resistant materials, especially for kitchens and bathrooms.
Cultural Influence: Kolkata’s rich cultural heritage is often reflected in homes, whether through traditional artwork or antique furniture. Budget for elements that align with the city's cultural vibe if that appeals to you.
Conclusion:
Budgeting for interior design in Kolkata doesn't have to be overwhelming. By understanding the scope of your project, breaking down your budget, and making smart, cost-effective choices, you can transform your home into a beautiful and functional space.
Whether you’re working with a high-end designer or doing it yourself, planning ahead and sticking to your budget will ensure that you get the best value for your money. Kolkata offers endless possibilities for creative and affordable interior design—embrace the process and enjoy the transformation!
