River of Blood This is my submission to @cocktail.alchemists classic movie cocktail. #alchemistsmovie my inspiration and subject comes from the movie, The Shining. Specifically the bloody elevator scene. River of Blood cocktail 1 oz Black Vodka @houndsvodka 1 oz Chambord 1 oz lemon-lime soda Method. -Stir chambord and lemon-lime soda in ice, strain into coupe glass. -Layer hounds black vodka on top. -garnish with ice shell and hot pepper 🌶 and drizzle grenadine over ice. Mike Does The WYLD STALLYN, a BILL & TED Cocktail

Like a blast from the past, Bill & Ted are finally back for an all-new, most excellent and totally non-bogus adventure in Bill & Ted Face the Music. Also like a blast from the past, is me putting out content! 

While five years isn’t quite as long as the twenty-nine it took to get a third Bill & Ted film, I am sure you haven’t been waiting on me to drop a collection of life-changing, universe-uniting words. I’m not Wyld Stallyns and I don’t have the tunes that will end war and poverty, but I do come bearing a most resplendent and refreshing beverage hopefully befitting the two great ones.

Back in 2017, I was toying around with a riff on a riff --something to beat the bogus summer heat. Using the most esteemed Erick Castro’s Kentucky Buck as a base, I began traveling through time and all across the afterlife to cull ingredients for this non-heinous tribute to Bill & Ted in liquid form! 

What’s better than one type of whiskey? Just like two heads are better than one, the same can apply to whiskey! Not unlike the dynamic duo of Martian scientists Station, the spice and herb of rye combine with the sweet notes of bourbon to achieve something even greater. 

Seeking inspiration from a dude who, 700 years ago, totally ravaged China, Mr. Genghis Khan, and from another dude who, totally rescued the revolutionary work of tiki bartenders of the past, Mr. Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, I substituted a Chinese five-spice infused honey syrup for the simple syrup. 

As some would argue against bourbon and lime, I would argue that strange things are already afoot so embrace it, dude! 

Bittermens Hellfire Habanero Shrub compliments the ginger beer while hinting at Hell (which sucks!), the hereafter and the Man with No Tan, Death; while Peychaud’s Bitters provide the anise notes to round out the rad symphony of flavors and go for that pop! Excellent!

What to call it, though? If a buck is an animal dude, well, what else is an animal dude? A stallion! Scratch that --a “wyld stallyn.”

So while you watch the most triumphant final installment of the decades-spanning saga of Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan, shake up a Wyld Stallyn or two, raise a glass and always remember, be excellent to each other. And...party on, dudes!

WYLD STALLYN

Ingredients

1 ounce rye

1 ounce bourbon

¾ ounce lime juice

1 medium strawberry, quartered

½ ounce Chinese five-spice infused honey syrup

1 dash Bittermens Hellfire Habanero Shrub

1 dash Peychaud’s Bitters

Chilled ginger beer

Directions

In an excellent cocktail shaker, muddle strawberry with Chinese five-spice infused honey syrup, but don’t be a dick about it like Napoleon!

Add lime juice, bourbon, rye, bitters and ice to the shaker. Seal and shake until chilled. It should be as cold as Ted would be if he wound up at Oates Military Academy in Alaska!

Fine-strain into an ice-filled glass and top with chilled ginger beer for a totally resplendent and triumphant beverage! Garnish with a lime wedge and a half strawberry (bonus points if you’ve got a guitar sizzle stick)! Party on, dudes!

CHINESE FIVE-SPICE HONEY SYRUP

1 cup honey

1 cup water

1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder

Add water, honey, then five-spice powder to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly to fully combine all the ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil and then remove from the stove to let cool. Strain through a fine mesh strainer three times or multiple layers of cheesecloth. Refrigerate and shake before using.

The Turquoise blue cocktail is served in the Cell Block bar, immediately after Bryan Brown recites the famous Last Barman Poet on the bar top. The fact that the guest he’s flirting with at the time has in fact ordered an Orgasm doesn’t seem to phase him, and Brian & Doug Coughlin go ahead with their tandem routine. The Tuquoise Blue appears in the TGI Fridays drinks manual, though their version is longer and served in a Collins on the rocks. The Cocktail Movie version is served straight up in a martini glass, we’ll go close to this but update it by using a classic coupe glass and tweak the sweetness a little. Classic Turquoise Blue Recipe (TGI Friday’s) 1¼oz (37.5ml) White Rum ½oz (15ml) Triple Sec ½oz (15ml) Blue Curacao 1oz (30ml) Sweet & Sour 1½ (45ml) Pineapple Juice The drink is shaken with ice and served over cubed ice in a Collins glass. As you can see its a perfect example of the brightly coloured, juice heavy drinks that the 80s is infamous for. Even so, its tasty and easy to drink, so what’s not to love really? Updated Turquoise Blue Cocktail Recipe 1½oz (45ml) White Rum ½oz (15ml) Blue Curaçao ½oz (15ml) Fresh Lemon Juice 1oz (30ml) Fresh Pineapple Juice We’re still shaking with cubed ice (the bigger the better!) but then fine straining into a chilled coupe glass. Our version also has a little extra kick, as there’s more rum and less juice to stretch it out. All we’ve really done here is remove the duplicate orange liqueur in the triple sec, and drop the extra sweetness from the sours. Last nights Movie Cocktail: Green Creme de Menthe Frappe for FUNNY GIRL. First of all, it’s not green. Because actual Creme De menthe isn’t sold in Canada. Who knew?! Last nights Movie Cocktail: Stinger for the cult classic, BEACHES. I liked the drink better than the movie. And the drink was only decent. That being said, this movie wasn’t made for me in the slightest and that’s ok. I can understand why it has loving fans. The play is probably pretty great ... but I also completely understand why it’s got a 4/10 from most critics. Found a good Christmas drink though!
