Rockhampton's The Capricornian, 19 September 1929
Shortly before last Christmas a friend heard me voicing my admiration for Hugos "Les Miserables," and, knowing I did not possess a copy, made a mental note— for a Christmas present. How I gloated when I saw the title! And how I groaned when I found it was a film edition, and realized what that meant! The gift was made in complete ignorance of any difference, and I value the spirit of it. But I never could bring myself to read it right through. It surely is an act of sacrilege to have stripped the story of this master writer of all that gorgeous word clothing and set it forth thus — bare and graceless. To have robbed the characters of their dignity, to have changed even their very speech, to have cut and mutilated the very plot, and then put on the market as "Les Miserables," by Victor Hugo! Why, it does not even hint at Hugo's grand thoughts, his matchless expression. And so it is with scores of other famous works, put on the market in these film editions: they are eagerly pounced on by those who do not care whether they are well read or not, so long as they appear well read. And from these they pick up a smattering that carries them along. But many a would-be student of the classics is misled by them too. In all ignorance of what film edition means, they think they are making the acquaintance of a famed work. It's not even a bowing acquaintance.

Welcome back, fuckers! It’s time for part 2 of our Video Game Adaptations episode!
This instalment gets right into things with discussions about Netflix’s stunning Emmy-nominated Arcane (based on League of Legends) and the incredibly horny Castlevania (based on Metroid, I guess).
Chip confesses that he watched the Netflix Resident Evil series to get his Lance Reddick fix, leading to discussions on Paul WS Anderson’s divisive RE film series and the fan-service heavy reboot, Welcome to Raccoon City.
Chip & Andy also talk about a personal favourite with the live-action adaptation of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, from the most unlikely Takeshi Miike. We marvel at the bizarre clash of serious grit, the absurdism of Capcom’s franchise, and how it translates multiple storylines into one linear narrative.
We finally get into the genuinely dreadful side of video game adaptations with a section on Uwe Boll, focusing on House of the Dead and In The Name of the King. We wonder how Boll has a career, how anyone ever agreed to work with him, and what exactly video games have done to deserve this sort of abuse.
As a bonus, we discuss video games connected to video games, such as Square Enix’s approach to Final Fantasy – namely, Kingsglaive FFXV and FFVII Advent Children.
Finally, we share our dream video game adaptations. Including a fun twist on Horizon Zero Dawn, Ori & The Blind Forest (including a nightmare vision of how it could go wrong), and Gears of War.
Chip also shares his thoughts on working on the set of Assassin’s Creed, much to Andy’s chagrin.
