Hello everyone!! Back in June last year my blog reached 1500 followers, but I only got around to celebrating it now! Thank you so much for your continued support!! This year I want to play Cupid again so prepare for your faves to steal your heart all over again! (´ ε ` )♡

If you have something specific in mind for the prompts, like a certain hobby for prompt #10 🎨 - Suggest picking up a new hobby together, or maybe for prompt #7 💝 - Extend a non-verbal "I love you", you thought of playing their favorite song, giving them a warm cup of tea while they work, or maybe hugging them from behind? Don't be afraid to share your idea and unleash your creativity, I'd love to make your vision come true! Of course, that's only if you want to! The limit is three requests per person. This event is sfw and anons are allowed.

I am never getting over this. the last great american dynasty and mad woman are my favorites at first listen. I love storytelling in music and when I heard “and then it was bought by me” it just became so perfect. So I looked up Henry and Rebekah Harkness and there’s so much to be found. Her nickname is Betty. She really did paint a cat green. Her son from her first marriage who was convicted of murder said that the years he spent in prison were the best of his life. She had a lover 25 years younger than her, Bobby Scevers, who came out as gay, and called her children “the most worthless, selfish, useless creatures I have ever seen.” She was raised by a nanny who was chosen because she worked in an insane asylum. She wrote in her scrapbook that she aspired “to do everything bad.” She was married William Harkness, her second husband, for seven years. She owned a ballet company that went under in 1975. When William Harkness died, she renovated the house to have 8 kitchens and 21 baths, hoping keep her as far apart from her children as possible while they still resides under the same roof. She went to J. D. Salinger’s house (author of Catcher In The Rye) dressed as a maid and rang the doorbell, trying to convince him his stories should be portrayed as music. She dyed chocolate mousse blue. She moved hundreds of thousands of dollars back and fourth between bank accounts solely to confuse accountants. She filled her fish tank with Scotch. She believed in reincarnation. Her daughter had a child with extreme mental issues. Rebekah called this child, her granddaughter, a “creature” and said “let it die.” The baby, named Angel, died at ten years old. Her daughter Edith attempted suicide multiple times. She took her mother’s medicine and jumped off roofs. Rebekah herself took testosterone, painkillers, vitamin b, and regularly drank champagne. Her bathroom was splattered with blood from the medicine she took. Her muscles were calcified and she walked like Frankenstein. Edith ended up successfully killing herself. Rebekah died of cancer at 67. During her final moments, everyone was “running around signing wills and trying on wigs.” All this was in a New York Times article called “Is There A Chic Way To Go?” Something Rebekah actually said about her daughter’s multiple suicide attempts. It was published in 1988 and written by Barbara Grizutti Harrison.

This has been rattling around in my head for a few days so here it is. Just a cut little blurb.
Harrison/Reader
Summary: Harrison needs a haircut.
Warnings: None
“Are you sure this is ok?”
Soft music from one of Harrison’s many playlists rolled softly from a speaker on the kitchen counter. You’d stolen a stool from the breakfast bar and set it in the middle of the floor. An old ratty bed sheet lay underneath it. You watched your boyfriend’s face for some sign that he’d changed his mind. He smiles gently from his perch on the stool and pulls you between his spread legs. His hands rest lightly on your lower back as one of your own combs through his thick locks. He’d washed it just a short while ago and without any gel or mousse it’s achingly soft and fluffy as it slips between your fingers.
“It’s just hair, Angel. There’s only so much damage you can do.” He says cheekily, leaning over and grabbing the electric clippers from the counter. “Tom did it and he didn’t die.”
“Tom had his hair professionally cut.” You add as he placed the clippers in your hand. You toggle the on/off button a few times, listening as the blades spool up and then cut off. He needed his hair cut for a roll, shorter than it’d been for Catch-22 but not completely buzzed like his best friend Tom had done recently. You’d jokingly offered to do it for him. How hard could it be. You honestly hadn’t thought he’d take you up on it.
Harrison’s hands stroke up and down your sides as you pluck and twirl wisps of hair in your fingers. You knew it was just hair but, damn it, you were going to miss playing with it.
“It’ll grow back.” Harrison says softly, seeming to read your mind. “I’m sure you’ll find something else to latch onto while I’m-” He makes a soft ‘oof’ as you swat him in the stomach. “Ouch darling!” he laughs rubbing the spot.
“Haz…” you warn softly.
“Y/N….” he teases back. “Honestly, the girls in hair and makeup will fix it up regardless of how good or bad you do. Just go to town.”
You allow the clippers to spool up again his hands fall to your hips.
“Here goes nothing…” You sigh as the clippers meet his locks and the first strands fall to the floor.

On this date in music history…now, of course, the years vary…GREATLY…but here’s what went down…
October 3rd
2011 - Queen
According to new scientific research, Queen's 'We Are The Champions' was found to be the catchiest song ever written. Musicologist Dr Alisun Pawley from the University of London, England, conducted research into what makes a song memorable and compiled a list of the ten "catchiest" songs of all time. During the research, they discovered that sing-along songs contained four key elements: long and detailed musical phrases, multiple pitch changes in a song's 'hook', male vocalists, and higher male voices making a noticeable vocal effort. Y.M.C.A. by the Village People, Sum 41's Fat Lip, and Europe's The Final Countdown were also in the list.
2002 - Iron Butterfly
Original guitarist, vocalist from American psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly Darryl DeLoach died of liver cancer at the age of 56.
2000 - John Lennon
John Lennon's assassin Mark Chapman was denied parole after serving 20 years in prison. Chapman was interviewed for 50 minutes by parole board members who concluded that releasing Chapman would 'deprecate the seriousness of the crime.'
2000 - Benjamin Orr

1991 - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Texas governor Ann Richards proclaimed October 3, Stevie Ray Vaughan, (Stevie Ray Vaughan's birthday), to be "Stevie Ray Vaughan Day". An annual motorcycle ride and concert in Central Texas benefits the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Oh don't get me started on how much I love these dudes' hair 😂 I used to tease mine and use a ton of hair spray but it's just not the same!! How do they do it?? I don't think alone again or nobody's fool are basic, they're just very GOOD - that's what makes them hits! I learned how to play nobody's fool on bass, which is my favorite instrument btw (and that song is actually really easy - I can't normally sing and play at the same time but with that one I can and it's a blast) and omg you like fleetwood mac too?!? That is so awesome!! I've been listening to them for years - and Stevie Nicks is one of my favorite artists right now!! I think too late for love is one of the first def leppard songs I heard too! I'm pretty sure rock of ages was the very first one though - I actually got into them because I saw the movie with that name and ended up looking up the band from there! Now the funny thing about me and spotify is, it actually has very little idea the amount of bands/artists I listen to (I signed up like 2 years ago because it had Bob Dylan's Empire Burlesque and I really wanted to hear it) and since then I've admittedly been neglecting our hair metal bands and hyperfixating on other stuff 😔 I listened to a lot of Dokken in October and some Def Leppard off and on but they have very little plays honestly. But to answer your question, my top artists on spotify are VERY very accurate considering what I've been hyperfixating on lately. #1 was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (which has been my absolute favorite band for a little over a year now) it's kinda a long story how I got into them but the short version is that I knew I liked their music from the radio so I watched a little documentary on tv and started absolutely obsessing from there. #2 was The Beatles - which tracks with this 60s thing I kinda have going on. I honestly don't know how that one happened. I think it's because Tom Petty worked with a beatle (coincidentally that beatle ended up being my favorite) I think I looked them up from that and #3 was George Harrison - my favorite beatle and the reason I looked them up in the first place 😂 his solo stuff is very very good. I highly recommend the album Cloud Nine. Now I have a few different questions for you this time 👀 1. Since I mentioned mine, what's your favorite instrument? Do you play any - or do you want to learn how to play any? 2. You mentioned Europe's Rock the Night and I automatically thought about the video lol! It made me wonder, what's your opinion on music videos? Do you have any favorites? -❄
I tried using a curling wand for the perm effect, tease the hair, hairspray but my hair is so stubborn i just put mousse in my hair so it looks kinda like a mullet😂 But that's a good look on bands top songs I never really saw it that way but I like your way of thinking, AND NO WAY YOU PLAY BASS?! I wanted to try bass but i'm too broke to get a bass, it seems so much fun but moving your fingers and everything i have a hard enough time myself with my stratocaster with tabs but chords are mostly what I do but i'm currently saving for a telecaster, and what makes it better for fleetwood mac my MOM listened to them and so now me and her listen to Platinum Blonde (good band btw) and Fleetwood Mac because she doesnt like def leppard😔 but Stevie Nicks is so iconic she has an amazinh sense of style and her voice is literally so talented I just love her🤩 and it's all good if you're hyperfixated on other things it's good to find more interest! I sadly don't listen to Tom Petty and the heartbreakers BUT i heard their music is *chefs kiss* pretty amazing, The Beatles EVERYONE is telling me to listen to them and i need to make time for listening to them! They literally are so talented because my friends and i (they had like their band meet up (i'm just their stylist when it comes to gigs they gotta dress their best when it comes to the public) i went over since it was my friends bday to drop him off a cake) and we were watching beatles, def leppard vids (like interviews) for fun😂 I'll definitely listen to the Cloud 9 album and answering questions time: 1- i play guitar but i mostly sing, i want to learn bass and piano AND DRUMS i'm working on an album to release (just for fun) and i CANNOT play drums if my life depended on it😂😭, 2- okie so my FAVOURITE music videos definitely Def Leppard: Rocket, Bringin on the heartbreak, PHOTOGRAPH, Foolin' (that part joe is getting away from the sparks😂), ME AND MY WINE (i died at steve being goofy), Europe: open your heart when Joey is like "i wanna hear you call!" I find his little groovy dance adorable yet funny idk why, i normally watch music videos when im bored but i've just been really busy but one cool thing i like abouu music videos is they sometimes tell the story and meaning of the song (or they just stand there rockin out which is good either way😌) SO im wondering 1. which song is your top favourites from fleetwood mac (mines 7 wonders and isnt it midnight) 2. Do you have any hobbies 3. What colour is your bass?!

Leo angst (that I love) aside, OMG, Cupcake’s family!!! They are so cute! So of course I have questions!
Is Cupcake the only one still at the circus? If so, did her family leave bc of the mistreatment (or… more unfortunate reasons)?
And her Dad(?)!!! He looks so fluffy, and like he gives the warmest hugs lol. He seems so big, does he have some non-clown ancestry? (Or maybe it’s just the circus posters exaggerating lol)
Does her little sibling also have the same accelerated hair growth and just shaves it, or are they too young to show it other than the bushy eyebrows? Either way, they and the rest of the family have me like 😍
Ha, I didn't think anyone would notice the background posters. The Hairy Harrisons were a popular freakshow draw 15 years ago.
It's rumored that the big, boisterous, lovable Mr. Bob Harrison is part wolf, even though he has maintained for years that his family is 100% clown. They just have a rare gene that makes their hair grow really fast.
Cupcake is the only member of her family that still works for the circus. One of her younger siblings felt embarrassed being a "freak" and got lazer hair removal as soon as she turned 18. And the other one found that he likes being a roustabout and maintenance person better. Bob is now happily retired and helps his wife at the family bakery.
#cupcake#i forgot that cupcake widows peak when I drew the poster#cupcake was about 15 in that poster#idk how old her siblings are#bob harrison#bonnie harrison#mousse harrison#sundae harrison

@aquaexplicit eeyyyyyyy
prompt: mob boss au
Harry adjusted his tie in the car mirror for the fourth time that evening. Hartley let out a deep sigh.
“You look fine, boss. Great, even.”
Harry waved his comments away with a frustrated face and began running his hands through his hair. Hartley sat up straighter, alarmed, and pulled his hands away.
“I did not spend thirty minutes in your bathroom with hair gel for you to mess it up now!”
“I look ridiculous!” Harry snapped, tugging his hands out of his grip.
“Shut up, he’s going to like it! Even if he doesn’t, I picked out the best dinner spot in the city. Order the chocolate mousse for desert, and you’re going to have a second date.”
“Whatever,” he muttered, mentally filing the information away.
Hartley rolled his eyes and went back to his phone. The car pulled up in front of the restaurant.
“Try not to have too much fun, we have a meeting with the Russians tomorrow.”
“Right.”
“And remember the wine order we went over.”
“I’ve got it.”
“And don’t forget the boutonniere!”
“Is this my date or yours?”
Hartley smirked.
“I’d like to think of it as our date. If everything goes well, he’ll be joining the family!”
“No, he won’t.” A tinge of warning hung on his tone.
“Harrison. You’re the head of the biggest crime syndicate in the city. He’s not an idiot, you met him at a Science Expo. He’s going to figure it out.”
“No,” Harry said firmly. “Cisco Ramon can never know he’s going on a date with a mob boss.”
~
Cisco Ramon had a date with a mob boss.
When Harrison Wells, one of the CCPD’s biggest Persons of Interest (at least according to Barry), approached him at the annual Science Expo, he thought he was going to be kidnapped at worst, given a job offer at best.
Hey, what can he say? His experimental weapon designs were well known in certain circles. A man’s gotta have a hobby, after all.
So when the man struck up a conversation instead, looming awkwardly over him in the crowded hall, muttering about the different tech, he was a bit taken aback. He recovered quickly. If the guy wanted to have a chat, well, Cisco could indulge him.
Harrison(You can call me Harry)’s face when he started talking back was...something distressingly close to relieved. Drunk Barry was not one to skimp on details, Cisco knew what this man had done, knew he was smart enough to not get caught, but somehow. Somehow, crowded in and discussing lasers, he just seemed...Adorable.
When he asked him out, Cisco only hesitated a little before giving him a yes. The look on his face threw any lingering doubts out the window. Harry clearly wasn’t trying to trap him. Probably didn’t even know Cisco knew who he was.
Cisco still slides one of his prototypes into his suit jacket. He’s not a complete moron.
Harry is waiting for him when he gets to the place (and holy shit, being a criminal mastermind must come with serious perks, because Carter and Kendra had been trying to get a reservation here for weeks) and offers him his arm and a boutonniere.
“It’s a gardenia,” he muttered, “You don’t have to take it if you don’t like it.”
Cisco smiled and pinned it to his chest, trying hard not to laugh at the slight blush on his face.
He beat a man to death with a crowbar, Cisco, he’s not a damn puppy.
They walk in and are seated. Cisco lets himself be a little impressed by the surroundings. The building is tastefully decorated without giving way to opulence, and the lighting is low and romantic.
“I have to say, Harry, you pick a heck of a place to show a guy a good time.”
He gives a small smile. “In the interest of honesty, I know nothing about dating locations and such. I had one of my business associates recommend it to me. It’s my first time here.”
“Well tell your associate that they have good taste. If the chocolate mousse here is as good as they say, you’re definitely getting a second date.”
“I’ll make note of that.” Harry chuckles, seeing some unknown humor.
They place their orders and he doesn’t even blink when Cisco orders the most expensive thing on the menu. Good sign.
“Don’t worry,” he says with a wink, “I put out on the first date.”
Harry chokes on his wine. The waiter chokes on air before rushing off with the menus. Cisco lets himself chuckle then.
“That’s, uh. Good t-to know.” His hands are shaky as he brings his napkin to his mouth. Clearing his throat, he leans forward. “Look, if I’ve made you feel pressured in any way- I mean, it’s not that I’m uninterested, obviously, of course not, you’re lovely, but honestly, I’m not expecting-”
Cisco places one of his hands over his own.
“Harry. You’re rambling. Relax.” His voice is amused.
“Right,” Harry takes a deep breath, “Right.”
“Haven’t been on a date in a while, huh?”
Harry shook his head, smiling sardonically.
“It’s that obvious? No, my work prevents me from getting out like this much.”
Yeah, Cisco bets it does.
“I guess I should be flattered, then. Speaking of, what did you say your work was, again?”
~
Harry froze, staring blankly ahead with a deer in the headlights look.
“I, um. I work in acquisitions and distribution. For a large company in town. I’m the head of that department, actually.”
Cisco smiles. Smooth, Harrison. You only stumbled a little. His date rests his head on his hand, arm propped up on the table.
“Wow, that sounds fascinating. Tell me more.”
“Oh, it’s, uh. Its nothing, really. Boring, even. But I do well for myself. We had a merger this afternoon, which should bring us even more revenue.”
The Irish were tough negotiators, but apply enough pressure and they agreed well enough. Especially when the pressure was on their throat.
“Judging by the blood on your neck, I take it the merger went well.”
Harry swore, bringing his hand up to the side of his neck. A few flecks of dried blood scraped off. Cisco smiled serenely.
“I cut myself shaving.”
“I’m sure that’s the case. Although I could make a joke about cutthroat business practices.”
Harry huffs out a small laugh, mentally cursing out Rathaway for not noticing the blood in the car. Still, Cisco seemed to be buying it. People nicked themselves shaving all the time. Harry was in the clear.
Cisco opened his mouth, doubtless to ask more questions, only for the waiter arrive with their food. He blushed slightly as he set down Cisco’s plate. Harry frowned as he walked away.
He was distracted by Cisco eating. More specifically, the deeply satisfied noises he made while eating. His eyes shut as he made small groans of pleasure. Harry’s fist tightened around his silverware. There were going to be indents in his hands at this point. His fork started to bend slightly.
“Dude.”
“Hmmm?”
“Are you even gonna eat your food? It’s, like, the best goddamn thing I’ve ever tasted.”
Harry bets he would be.
“Yeah, sorry. Lost in thought.”
“Anything you’d like to share?”
Never.
“Not particularly.”
Cisco shrugged before going back to eating.
“Suit yourself, man.”
Harry’s sure his dinner was delicious, but he barely tasted a bite of it. Cisco excused himself to wash his face (lobster can be a mess to eat, butter sauce dripping everywhere, and as enthralling as it was to watch him chase the droplets with his tongue, Harry understood). With a deep and contented sigh, he lets himself relax into the chair.
The waiter came by to clear their plates.
“Can I get you anything else this evening, sir?”
“Two orders of the chocolate mousse.”
“Ah, looking for a second date, huh? Can’t say I blame you.” The waiter gave him a knowing smile. Harry tensed, smile rigid on his face. He seriously considers throttling the man before Cisco returns, beaming at him as he takes his seat.
“I hope you don’t mind, I took the liberty of ordering some dessert.”
“Not at all. I’ve got a sweet tooth that pretty much takes up my whole mouth.”
Harry will have to remember that.
“You know, I’ve been bothering you with questions all night-”
“It’s not a bother.”
Cisco smiles sweetly at him.
“And that’s very kind of you. But you haven’t asked me any questions yet. Do you want to?”
There were plenty of things Harry wanted to ask Cisco. How do you feel about dating career criminals, for example. Are you enjoying yourself as much as I am. Do you like kids because I have a daughter studying abroad and I think you would adore each other.
What comes out of his mouth is very different.
“So, do you bring a gun to all your dates, or am I just special?”
Cisco startled, eyes widening before something resembling a smirk slides it’s way onto his face. It’s more attractive than it has any right to be.
“Well a boy should always carry protection if he plans on having fun, Harry.”
Harry swallows down the sudden excess of saliva in his mouth.
“But don’t worry. I still think you’re plenty special.”
The chocolate mousse arrives and Harry tries to kid himself that the glazed look on his date’s eyes has something to do with himself.
“It’s not a gun, by the way.”
“Hmmm?”
“It’s not a gun. It’s a prototype taser I’ve been tweaking. I’m an engineer, making toys is kinda my thing.”
“You consider a taser a toy?”
“Considering I’m also developing a gun that can achieve absolute zero? Hell yeah it’s a toy. It’s not even lethal, ‘cause I like you so much.”
Harry doesn’t even pretend to hide the effect his words have on him. His tongue feels heavy in his mouth as something deep and dark inside him purrs.
“You’re perfect,” he murmurs, and watches as the other man’s face reddens. Cisco’s eyes, in the dim light of the dining area, seem to become impossibly darker.
“Nah,” he chokes out lightly, “This mousse is perfect. Seriously, Harry. You gotta try this.”
Harrison lets the moment slide, popping a spoonful in his mouth. It’s good. He can think of something that would taste better.
“Cisco-”
“Alright, here’s your check! We hope you had a good time with us this evening, please come back again!”
The waiter drops the check between them, breaking whatever trance held them. He has the audacity to wink at them. Harry curbs the growl building in his throat and clenches his fists. He pays for the meal, even goes against his instincts and leaves a decent tip.
They finish their dessert and Harry escorts Cisco out of the restaurant.
“I had a good time,” he says gently, “Thank you for your company.”
“I feel like I should be thanking you, here. The food was amazing, and you weren’t so bad yourself, Harry.” Cisco grins brightly at him.
“Yes, well.” He tries to fight the blush he can feel rising. He was a grown man, dammit. “Let me escort you to your car.”
“Oh, I took a cab. I can always wait for one to come pick me up, don’t worry about it.”
Harry frowned.
“Or, y’know. You could give me a ride back to mine. It’s a bit of a mess, but there’s coffee.”
“How could you possibly still be hun-” Oh. Oh.
Cisco laughs.
“I don’t understand how anyone could be scared of you. You’re a dork. I love it.”
“I would be more than happy to give you a ride.”
“Well, I should hope so.” Cisco winks.
Harry is going to give Hartley a raise. And a vacation. And-
His car pulls up to curb and he opens the door. Cisco slides in and he follows after. Something about his words nags at him.
“Cisco.”
“Harry.” His tone is teasing.
“You mentioned something about people being afraid of me.”
“Well yeah,” Cisco chuckles, before sliding closer, “You’re kinda the biggest mob boss in the city.”
All of the air in Harry’s chest leaves him.
“Wha-Y-I-”
Cisco slips onto Harry’s lap and stops his stammering with a kiss.
“Yes,” he says affectionately. “I know. Kinda knew the entire time.”
“Then why-”
“Because I don’t actually care all that much. Now are you going to get with the program, here, or-”
Harry pulls him in roughly, stopping his words with his tongue and his teeth.
“I was right,” he pants out, “You are perfect.”
Cisco lets out a small laugh, squirming closer. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
The car starts moving, partitions up (thank god), and Harry’s hand goes to Cisco’s waist, steadying him against him as his other hand finds his way into his hair. He pulls it, dragging his head back and exposing his throat, letting his mouth slide over Cisco’s neck and pulling soft strangled noises out of him before Cisco pushes their mouths back together.
The hand on Cisco’s waist drifts lower, pulling him in tighter, closer, until they can’t be discerned from each other, until they share a body, unti-
Harry’s phone starts ringing.
He ignores it.
It rings again. Hartley’s ringtone. Fuck.
Reluctantly, he drags his face away from Cisco’s and picks it up.
“What?” he snaps, temper high.
“Boss. We have an emergency. We need you down at the docks.”
“I’m a little busy, here, Rathaway.”
The sound of gunshots blares through the phone.
“Harrison. Please. Now.”
Snarling, he throws his phone into the seat beside him.
“Something come up, Harry?”
“Work. I’m afraid we’re going to have to cut the evening short.”
Cisco sighs.
“Alright. Guess I shoulda seen this coming. Didn’t expect it so soon, though.”
Harrison barks out a short, bitter laugh.
“My driver will still take you home. It’s only a few blocks for me, I could use the exercise. I’ll call you in the morning.”
Harry calls the car to a stop and steps out.
Cisco looks torn. “Harry-” he sighs. “Be safe, Harry.”
The words warm him in the cool night air. He leans down and presses a final gentle kiss to his lips.
“I’ll call you in the morning.”
It’s a promise he intends to keep.
He watches the car drive off and walks briskly off. The walk settles him a little. By the time he gets to the docks, the situation has reached it’s zenith.
Good.
Then he can blow off some steam.
#harrisco#harriscofest#this is probably the longest thing i've ever written at once#so uh whoops sorry about that#harry is a mob boss and cisco is pretty ok with it#hartley is well's wesley#this was some gd self indulgent shit it ran away with me there

Port Douglas restaurants, bars and food tours
The scenic road to Port Douglas from Cairns curls around the coast from Palm Cove where the Coral Sea rolls into view. The town of Port Douglas is a sultry seaside outpost studded with excellent places to eat and drink.
From the local markets, to the character-filled pubs in the main street, here are some of the best Port Douglas restaurants and food experiences to be had.
EAT LIKE A LOCAL
Salsa Bar & Grill
In the winter, when temperatures hover in the mid 20s, travellers descend on Port Douglas in their droves. After wandering around the charming main street, you have a compelling reason to stay and play thanks to a clutch of remarkably good local restaurants. Salsa Bar & Grill is one of them. Order spicy school prawns with chilli and lime aioli and the line-caught fish of the day before walking down to the marina to ogle the mega yachts.
Ironbar Hotel
This popular steakhouse is great for people watching. Book a table on the footpath where you’ll sit alongside everyone from bearded bikers to photogenic backpackers who mob the pub for its much-loved Aussie burger layered with cheese, lettuce beetroot, bacon and secret sauce. Here quirky décor dominates: the bar is clad in rainforest timbers and corrugated iron, vintage sign posts double as art and daily specials are chalked up on a rustic blackboard.
Mocka’s Pies & Bakehouse
The smell of meaty baked goods wafts out of Mocka’s Pies and pervades the main street of Port Douglas. Follow your nose to the cheap and cheerful bakery tucked away in Grant Street, which has been going strong for 50 fabulous years. Exhausted from walking the length of Four Mile Beach? Refuel by scarfing down a chunky steak pie or other workaday fare such as ham sliders and cinnamon cruffins. Adventurous foodies might want to plump for the croc or ‘roo pie.
FINE DINING SPLURGES
Nautilus Restaurant
Nautilus Restaurant is a local institution. Anyone who is anyone who visits Port Douglas dines here. Long known for drawing movie stars, millionaires and moguls, the restaurant, which has been in continuous operation for more than six decades, is also a magnet for lovers of good food and wine. Take a seat on the outdoor terrace lit by fairy lights under a sky pin-cushioned with stars to enjoy dishes such as sugar-cane-cured barramundi, sous-vide Moreton Bay bug tails followed by a tropical mango soufflé.
Harrisons by Spencer Patrick
Facetime your friends while digging into local line-caught coral trout poached and filled with crab mousse then served with leeks and a swirl of sea urchin butter. As the only restaurant awarded a Good Food Guide hat in Port Douglas, a table under the twinkling lights on the terrace at Harrisons by Spencer Patrick is where it’s at. Locals boast about this restaurant, located poolside at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Port Douglas, for a reason: it’s one of the most charming places to eat in town. Chef Spencer Patrick demonstrates his Michelin-starred training and love for the region with elegant dishes such as the barramundi, pickled onion puree, clams and scallop paper.
Silky Oaks Lodge
Dress to impress for dinner at Silky Oaks Lodge in the heart of the World-Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest. The Treehouse Restaurant is a dreamy bower that is wide open to the elements overlooking the sparkling Mossman River. Suspended high in the forest, it’s the beating heart of the lodge, a place for travellers to gather to swap stories and feel smug about their temporary escape from civilisation. This is seasonal eating at is most adventurous: try crocodile soufflé, kangaroo cooked with spiced red cabbage, burnt onion, sweet onion puree and pickled onion. If time permits, chill out in the Healing Waters Spa.
Port Douglas food tours
Sweet Farm Tours
Gerard Puglisi, of Sweet Farm Tours, is a fourth-generation farmer who will tell you everything you want to know about life on a Queensland cane farm. Spend an hour with Puglisi – and his 1800 cocoa trees – and tap into more than 90 years of family farming knowledge. Touch cocoa pods, learn why cocoa and sugar work well with cane, and then taste one of the end products – chocolate from Daintree Estates. The farm is located on the edge of the Daintree and is open from Tuesday till Saturday 9.30am to 4pm.
Brett’s Outback Tasting Adventures
Arrive hungry for this comprehensive tasting tour that departs from Port Douglas three times a week. Follow the road that snakes south along the coastline to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, which serves up Indigenous interpretations of jam, fruit and damper. The tour then connects the dots between Mt Uncle Distillery, Jacques Coffee Plantation, Gallo Dairyland, The Humpy and Golden Drop Winery, all located on the verdant hilltop plateau known as the Atherton Tablelands and included in Brett’s Outback Tasting Adventures. The tour culminates in a sundowner at Platypus Hut on the edge of Hunter’s Creek. The tour operates Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Port Douglas Markets
Held every Saturday under the tangled limbs of a stand of raintrees next to St David’s Church, the markets are brimming with everything from artisanal wares to hand-crafted goods. But it’s the promise of fresh produce from local farms in the Douglas Shire that is most interesting to food lovers. Meet strawberry farmers, banana and avocado growers and taste a variety of foods using locally sourced ingredients. We recommend the poffertjes (Dutch profiteroles) from Little Amsterdam and the double beef cheese burger from the Avalon Farm shop.
Port Douglas bars
On the Inlet
As well as being a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, Tropical North Queensland is known for sharing a similar climate to Asia. Don’t leave Port Douglas without sampling a bowl of Chef Mitchell Nisbet’s laksa, brimming with local seafood and fresh herbs from On the Inlet, which began selling local seafood from an old caravan in the 1990s.
While the restaurant is no longer ‘on the inlet’ – it moved to Wharf Street overlooking St Mary’s by the Sea a few years ago – it remains a top spot to sip on a glass of Chardonnay and eat a bucket-load of fresh prawns.
The Court House Hotel
Aaaah, the Courty. The pub, housed in a grand old heritage Queenslander is, quite possibly, the best place to signal the end of the day in Port Douglas. Built in 1879, it’s been plying its patrons with food and drink for more than a century.
Head to the open-air rooftop bar to enjoy a local brew while watching the sun tie-dye the sky pink, orange and lavender or pull up a stool on the pavement where the foot traffic becomes part of the entertainment. The go-to cocktail here is a Courty Sea Breeze comprising peach schnapps, Midori, pineapple and fresh lime.
Hemingway’s Brewery
This gastro brew pub located on the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina in Port Douglas is a bucolic paradise for boaties and beer-lovers. The most popular amber nectars on offer at Hemingway’s include the Prospector pilsener, the Hard Yards’ dark lager and Pitchfork Betty’s pale ale. Thirsty travellers should order a paddle of beers and pore over the menu, which tells the stories about the local ales and the characters they’re named after.

Things I'm currently in love with
I was tagged by @lightsidecalling a few days ago, but life got crazy for a bit! Here goes... ONE SONG: I have many favorites from many different genres and time periods. Today I'm going back to 1961 for Harry Belafonte's "Jump in the Line," a.k.a. "Shake Shake Shake Senora." Because fun. TWO FILMS: The Empire Strikes Back and Casablanca. Because passion, heartache, drama, and so so good. THREE SERIES: I haven't watched a series since they killed off Matthew in Downton Abbey. My husband and I were so mad that we quit watching then and there. (Ya hear that Disney?! I don't like it when you kill off my favorite character!) Game of Thrones? Orange Is the New Black? I haven't seen a second of them, mostly due to lack of time for a show I have to follow closely. Would fanfic count here? If so, I'm loving New Hope, Indiana, by @cicatrick, though I'm behind on my reading! After NHI, I plan on checking out Mighty Things by @knightedrogue, and @mandatheginger just began posting a promising new story called Affirmation! FOUR PEOPLE: Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher. The fourth? My husband LOL He's not famous, but he's talented, hard working, smart, and the love of my life! He's handsome too, a bonus for me! FIVE FOODS: Chocolate mousse, mangos, lobster ravioli, wild raspberries, and Tim Hortons coffee. Next up, whoever else wants to play!

Loveable Nerds and Superheroes II - Chapter 4: Date Night
Pairing: WestAllen
Rating: T
Summary: Mason approaches Iris with a story he’s currently working on that could be quite of interest to her... also, it’s the day of Barry and Iris’s date! :) Chapter 1 can be found here, 2 here and 3 here.
The next morning, Iris was back at her desk at CCPN. She was currently contemplating what issue she should tackle for her next article (while also mentally going through a list with everything she still had to prepare for tonight's date with Barry) when all of a sudden, a plate with a Danish was shoved right in front of her face -
“Not a bad job with that story on those real estate frauds, West,” Iris's mentor, Mason Bridge, said, expectantly looking at Iris and the pastry he was offering to her.
“Um, thanks,” she replied mystified, blindly accepting the dish in front of her – Mason wasn't exactly big on giving compliments (or sharing any sort of food). In fact, just a month ago he had completely dismissed any of Iris's attempts to get some sort of advice from her assigned mentor, snidely pointing out that any idiot with a laptop could write a blog. It had taken a lot of persistence and hard work on her side to finally be in her mentor's good graces.
Iris eyed the pastry skeptically: “So you just came by for an almost-compliment and a Danish?”
“Actually,” Mason admitted while conspiratorially leaning forward and producing a folder he had been holding onto with his other hand, “I'm currently working on something that might interest you.”
“Oh, okay,” Iris replied, pleasantly surprised that the senior journalist was willing to let her in on one of his investigations, “shoot.”
“You see,” Mason started, pulling out a photograph from the file he had brought along, “I have noticed that Simon Stagg has been AWOL for some time now...”
“So?” Iris commented, raising a quizzical eyebrow, before examining the picture she'd been given. “He's never been one to appear at many social events or otherwise... He's always been more of a recluse, right?”
“Never like this. I've been digging deeper, contacting assistants as well as board members of Stagg Industries... Nobody has seen or heard from Mr. Stagg for more than 4 months now.”
Iris's eyes widened with realization: “Oh.” She drew her chair nearer to her mentor, handing him back the photo.
“'Oh', indeed.” Mason agreed, putting the photo back into the file and pulling out another, “and all my trails lead to one person: Dr. Harrison Wells.”
“Harrison Wells?” Iris echoed hollowly, the weird feeling she'd had whenever she was around said scientist reemerging once again.
“Yeah,” Mason confirmed, “he was the last person to meet with Mr. Stagg, in addition to other quite shady implication.”
Iris had a sinking feeling in her stomach. The worst thing of all was, that as much as she wanted to, she couldn't bring herself to completely disregard Mason's suspicions.
Still, Iris came to the scientist's defense – after all, he had provided his facility and know-how to help out her nephew for the past three weeks:
“But why would Dr. Wells do that? I mean, obviously the launch of the particle accelerator was not a good choice of action, but he seems to really want to redeem himself – he and his team took good care of my boyfriend when he had suffered an injury from the explosion of the particle accelerator and for the past three weeks, they helped in any way possible when my nephew was in a coma due to a lightning strike. I have come to know the people that work there. They are good people, Mason.”
“Well, I'm not saying that anyone else at S.T.A.R. Labs is involved in Simon Stagg's disappearance. Maybe they aren't aware of their boss's wrongdoings or they are good actors.
-But it's not just Stagg. I mean, don't tell me that after all that time you apparently spent over at S.T.A.R. Labs, you didn't notice anything fishy happening there?”
Again, Iris felt queasy, though this time because she did know what was going on at the research facility. She had witnessed the workings of the crime-fighting unit stationed there first-hand.
“Fishy in what way exactly?” she asked tentatively, worried about how much Mason had already found out (after all, this man had won the Pulitzer Prize for his amazing investigative journalistic work. Twice.)
“Well, for once – what are they doing there now that they are basically without funding and most of their staff?” – Iris couldn't help but remember asking herself the same question when she had tried to find out more about Barry and S.T.A.R. Labs – “And what about these silent acts of benevolence you just told me about? Wouldn't exactly this kind of thing help them regain the public's trust again?”
“I don't know – maybe they first want to figure out how exactly they can help the public before drawing attention back to S.T.A.R. Labs? It's not like there wouldn't be plenty of people eager to pick apart every single deed done by them... But I get where you're coming from,” Iris admitted, an idea forming in her head how she could protect Team Flash's base of operations from discovery, “I could try to find out: interview the staff, find out what their specific plans for the future are – maybe even snoop around the place if there is something off about their answers...”
Iris's answer seemed to surprise her mentor: “You would be willing to investigate your little group of friends?”
“I stand by my statement that they are good people,” Iris repeated, thinking of how devotedly Cisco and Caitlin had taken care of Wally. But thinking of Wally and her uneasy feeling whenever she was around Dr. Wells, also made it easier for Iris to commit herself to Mason's cause, “But admittedly I haven't known them for long and if there is anything unlawful” – aside from vigilantism, Iris added silently in her mind – “going on, I want to know. I need to know.”
“Alright, West,” Mason said, clearly impressed, “maybe I did underestimate your 'gumption' after all.”
Iris couldn't help but smile. The relationship with her mentor certainly had come a long way since his dismissive demeanor at the very beginning at her stubborn determination to prove her journalistic worth.
“Maybe,” she echoed while accepting the thick folder Mason handed over to her. He gave her an approving nod, before leaving Iris to study the file.
When Iris got home from work, the young journalist was still reeling from the accumulation of incriminating leads Mason had gathered on Dr. Wells. She didn't get a chance to dwell on it today though, because she had tons of desserts to prepare for her date with Barry (and Iris knew that if she sat down at home to conduct her own investigation, she would never be able to pry herself away from her research – it probably could wait for one more day).
Iris was still in the kitchen, cutting up some fruit for a fruit salad (to assuage the guilty conscience of a whole dinner only consisting of brownies, mousse au chocolat and muffins), when her dad and Wally returned from S.T.A.R. Labs.
“Hey, you two,” Iris greeted the pair, “how was your day?”
This simple question was enough to get Wally started: He told his aunt about his new training exercises, poked fun at the look on his grandpa's face when he had watched his grandson run for the very first time (Joe just stood there, shaking his head in disbelief, like he could not wrap his mind around this even now) and excitedly showed Iris the protein bars Cisco and Caitlin had given him (“Because I use up much more energy now”, the 8-year-old explained precociously, while his eyes were flitting nervously back and forth between his aunt and the baked goods before him). The young speedster went on, talking about Barry dropping by during his lunch time and the realization of Team S.T.A.R. Labs that the young speedster's biggest issue was staying still and concealing his powers, rather than working on them. Which in turn elicited a bunch of complaints about these new 'training exercises' Team Flash had come up with for the 8-year-old: building houses of cards, playing mikado and jenga...-
“It's the wooorst,” Wally declared dramatically, snatching a piece of brownie from the box Iris just had put them into.
Despite making use of his powers, Wally still wasn't fast enough for Iris not to notice.
“Hey, those are not for you!” Iris chided the boy, who in turn gave her his best puppy dog eyes:
“Um... Did I mention that I use up much more energy now? I need fuel! ”
Iris couldn't help the chuckle escaping her lips at this clumsy excuse:
“Fine. You can lick out the empty bowls… if you promise me that you will work on your homework your Mom sent earlier.”
Wally scrunched up his nose at the mention of 'homework' but agreed to the proposed deal nonetheless. In a matter of seconds, the bowls were licked clean, so Iris barely had any work to do when washing the dirty dishes. The young woman quickly got ready for her date, double-checked if she had packed the keys to Jitters, and ruffled her nephew's hair one more time (who was now bent over his homework dutifully, brows furrowed and shoulders slumped in misery). She then said good-bye to her dad and Wally, before picking up the various boxes, carefully balancing the ridiculous amount of desserts (and fruit salad).
Iris parked right in front of Jitters so she wouldn't have to walk too far while carrying all these bowls and boxes. She was positively giddy when she unlocked the door. Maybe it was the chocolate she had snacked on while preparing the different kinds of desserts (and, unsurprisingly, most of the desserts Iris had made included chocolate in some form), maybe it was the familiar feeling of being alone in the coffee shop once again after all these crazy weeks... Maybe it was the anticipation of having another, proper date with Barry (or whatever qualified as 'proper' when you were dating a superhero). Anyway, Iris couldn't help herself but be excited. She hauled the boxes with food inside, setting them down on the counter. With a smile, she discovered a small note Tracy had left behind (under a plate with cronuts, Iris's favorite dish to order at the coffee shop). Iris's former colleague wished her a fun date (of which she hoped to hear about soon in great detail, the barista had added, complete with a winky-face). Iris rolled her eyes in fond annoyance – throughout her entire time at Jitters, Tracy had never stopped pointing out cute guys to Iris, sometimes even purposely serving other customers so Iris would have to take the orders from “the hotties”. It was only natural that Tracy would want to know everything about the guy who had finally managed to sweep Iris off her feet.
Shaking her head at the other girl's incorrigibleness, Iris pocketed the note and began arranging the food. While doing so, her gaze wandered to the special's board above, getting caught on the brand-new special. Her lips curved into a smile.
Meanwhile at the West house, Wally was still struggling to get his homework done (a process which was considerably slowed down due to the boy's inability to concentrate on it for more than five minutes instead of letting his eyes wander about the room and sighing pitifully while doing so). Suddenly the phone rang, providing a real diversion from the current math problem Wally was so desperate to ignore.
“You keep on working on your homework; don't think I don't see what you're doing there,” Joe said while heading for the phone, familiar with his grandson's penchant for distracting himself from his school work.
Begrudgingly, Wally returned his attention to his math problem. Still, the boy couldn't help but notice that his grandpa was not happy with the call he had received.
And indeed, Joe had any reason to be displeased. Captain Singh just had told him that he was desperately needed at the precinct. As it was already fairly late and Joe had no way of knowing how long he was going to stay over at the police station, he couldn't exactly bring Wally with him to work. Of course he could call Iris, who would return home immediately if she had to, but Joe knew how much his baby girl had been looking forward to her date with Barry and all the work she had put into it; he did not have the heart to ruin that evening for her. But now that Wally was having powers (a concept the detective still had to come to terms with), Joe didn't really feel comfortable leaving the boy alone nor asking their neighbor, Mrs Johnson (who had occasionally looked after his grandson before), to keep an eye on Wally.
Aimlessly looking through the contacts on the phone, Joe stumbled across the number of 'Dr. Caitlin Snow' (who had given her private number to the Wests while Wally was in his coma , assuring them that they could call her “at any time”). This wasn't a medical emergency, but Joe had noticed the genuine interest the doctor had shown in her new patient and figured he could at least give it a try.
His call was picked up immediately and after a short explanation of his problem, Caitlin was quick to assure Joe that it was no problem at all. She only asked if she could bring Cisco along (who apparently was over at the doctor's house for a movie night).
Having seen both the doctor and engineer taking good care of his grandson just this morning, Joe was more than fine with that, said his good-bye and hung up.
Twenty minutes later, the door bell rang and Joe and Wally were greeted by Caitlin and Cisco with a chipper “hi Detective West, hey Wally.”
Joe let the two scientists in, thanking them sincerely for coming over. He quickly informed them where they could find some pizza money (Wally's face brightened up considerably) and when Wally's curfew was (the boy's expression grew slightly sullen). Then, ruffling his grandson's hair and reminding the boy to “be good” and thanking the two scientists once more, the detective hurried off to the precinct.
“Soo... this is gonna be fun,” Cisco said humorously, breaking the awkward tension which had hung over the three Joe had left-behind.
Wally eyed the engineer suspiciously: “We are not gonna play any more games to train my ability to stay still, are we?”
“Nah... I've brought you something else to expand upon your education-” Cisco was interrupted by Wally groaning, still fed-up from doing weeks-worth of homework the past afternoon.
The engineer continued with a wide grin, pulling out something from his messenger bag: “Time you finally watch 'The Incredibles'.”
The young speedster's face brightened instantaneously.
About fifteen minutes after the arranged time for their date, Barry finally zipped into Jitters, hair disheveled and hands full.
“I am so sorry! I was just about to leave work when Captain Singh demanded a specific file on his desk tonight and on my way here there was some maniac-driver who almost knocked over some old lady crossing the street – why is it always some little old lady? – anyways, I'm so sorry. And I got you a flower,” the speedster added apologetically, holding out a slightly rumpled red rose.
Iris accepted the flower with a bright smile and a kiss.
“It's okay. Gave me more time to set up dinner. Because it's so nice outside, I thought we could dine up on the rooftop – it always was my favorite place at Jitters,” Iris said, while leading Barry up the stairs, carefully navigating him so he wouldn't see the board with specials, so it would be a surprise for later.
When they arrived at the rooftop they were met with a beautifully set up picnic, with tea candles and twinkle lights illuminating the scene.
“Wow,” was all Barry could say, “wow.”
Iris smiled brightly: “This is such a nice spot, right? I used to hang out here all the time after work.”
“It is really beautiful,” Barry agreed, “And you did an amazing job setting this whole thing up.”
Iris blushed, flattered, ”thanks.” She snuck an arm around Barry's waist, hugging him close: “I'm glad we finally made date night happen again. I missed that.”
“Me too,” Barry agreed, pressing a kiss on the top of Iris's head.
The journalist closed her eyes for a brief moment, relishing in the gesture. When she opened them again to look up at Barry, there was that familiar glint of mischief in them: “So, are you going to save me from my impending doom a.k.a chocolate coma?”
“Depends,” Barry said teasingly.
“On what?”
“How good that 'heavenly' coffee of yours really is.”
“So what do you think of this educational film?” Cisco asked, turning off the tv and cutting off the jazzy theme song of the DVD menu, “Cool?”
“Super cool!” Wally agreed. Despite his enthusiastic reply, the boy couldn't completely mask the yawn he was stifling.
“But now you really should get ready for bed,” Caitlin said, whose watchful eye did not miss the tiredness the young speedster tried so hard to cover up.
“Awww,” Wally bemoaned, putting on his best puppy dog pout in an attempt to change Caitlin's mind.
He did not succeed.
“Sorry,” Caitlin apologized, looking sympathetic, “but you really have to get enough sleep; your body still has to adjust to your new powers and changed metabolism. That sort of thing requires a lot of energy. Besides,” the doctor added, smiling, “I don't think your grandpa would allow us to look after you anymore if he came back from work and you were still up... And that would be a shame, wouldn't it be?”
That was enough to make the 8-year-old admit his defeat. Yawning once more, he climbed up the stairs to change into his pajamas.
“Impressive,” Cisco commented from his position on the couch, munching on some peanuts, “though I'm afraid you just spoiled our chance of earning us the honorary title of 'cool aunt' and 'uncle' respectively.”
Caitlin just rolled her eyes: “With Barry being a superhero and Iris working as an investigative reporter, trying to fulfill her nephew's every wish, I think those titles are pretty much taken, Cisco.”
“Still,” the engineer pouted, shifting slightly to make space for his friend on the couch,” you totally should have let him stay up with us – it would have increased my chance of getting to be the 'cool uncle'!”
Caitlin rolled her eyes and sat down next to Cisco, taking a handful of peanuts: “I wasn't aware that I had to look after two children.”
Barry and Iris were lying stretched out on their picnic blanket, both completely stuffed and content.
“If only we could see the stars, then this night would be perfect,” Iris sighed, her head comfortably resting on Barry's chest.
“One of the side effects of light pollution,” Barry sighed, absentmindedly playing with Iris's hair, “it's called 'Sky glow'. Light in the city that is directed or reflected upwards via surfaces then is scattered by the atmosphere and directed back to the ground, making it look like there is a glowing dome over the city. It was recently estimated that one third of the world's population could no longer see the Milky Way, among them 80% of Americans and 60% of Europeans.“
Iris chuckles “Only you could turn a simple observation about a lack of stars into a real downer – all with the power of science.”
The forensic scientist blushed: “I didn't mean to-”
Fondly shaking her head, Iris propped herself up to cut him off with a kiss. “It's okay. Cutest nerd that I know, remember?”
