Sometimes I just like to think about what it could've been if Geralt had gotten Ciri right after Pavetta and Duny died. If Calanthe was so weighed down by grief she realizes she can't take care of Ciri. So she orders Moussack to go find Geralt to collect Ciri. Imagining Geralt in a random tavern somewhere in Temeria, slowly making his way up to Kaer Morhen for the winter as autumn is approaching. Him having a gut feeling he should head up early, he thinks it's because something is wrong with Vesemir so he's anxious to make it through. But Roach needs to rest and well, it wouldn't hurt to get some extra supplies for the winter. Certainly wouldn't hurt to get some extra booze so he has relief from Lambert's grating voice on his ears. Besides, he and Eskel can stay up late and drink to their hearts content up in his room like they used to sneak around when they were teens.
Then out of the blue he sees Moussack, and dread fills his entire body. He doesn't keep up with news outside of what Dandelion tells him. So when Moussack is telling him Calanthe is summoning him he's thinking "oh fuck, she's changed her mind and is going to execute me."
But Moussack reassures him he's not going to be harmed. Calanthe is asking for him because of his child surprise. And now Geralt is really worried. What happened to them? Are they okay? Are they hurt? Did they die? They're only a few months old, there's so much that could've gone wrong. So he agrees to go with Moussack.
Calanthe looks a mess when Geralt sees her. Eist is by her side as always, trying to comfort her. Pavetta and Duny are nowhere in sight and it's making Geralt extremely antsy. Calanthe tells him the news, her voice is hoarse from all the crying she's been doing. Geralt sympathizes with them, gives them his condolences. And then that's when he realizes "oh. OH. OH NO". Sure enough Calanthe tells him she can't take care of herself, how could she care for a baby. Geralt refutes telling her "they're your grandchild, I don't want to rip them away-" and Calanthe tells him then it's a girl. And for a split second his brain gives the helpful thought of "oh I have a daughter" and Geralt is having an internal meltdown right there in the throne room. But he can't refuse. His entire basis for not coming back and claiming her is because she has a family who cares about her. But now that family is saying that they can't care for her, not because they don't love her, but because they do. So Geralt agrees to take her.
The first time he meets her he is entirely captivated by how small and precious she is. The moment he holds her he feels overwhelmed with such a fierce protectiveness and he can't help but absolutely adore her. He is trying so hard to stay stoic and unemotional but the moment he's alone with Ciri back in that old tavern he'd been at he just holds her and smiles. If he'd been a normal man, he probably would've burst into tears by how happy he was. (he did later once she got settled into Kaer Morhen, when he and Eskel did end up drinking up in his room. They're talking about the usual things, and then he looked over to her in her makeshift crib and just started bawling. Eskel freaks out and asks him what's wrong and he replies "I just love her so much."... Yes Eskel teared up.)
Then he has to go through the lovely moments of "how the fuck do you raise a baby" which Vesemir watches with so much amusement. Geralt raided most of Kaer Morhen's library and Nenneke's office for books about parenting. (Kaer Morhen has none, unsurprisingly.) He eventually asks Eskel to go to Oxenfurt and grab Dandelion and any books about parenting, childhood development, psychology and women's health he can find. (He is DREADING eventually having The Talk with Ciri but he won't be unprepared.) Dandelion is completely awestruck with Kaer Morhen of course however, nothing shocks him more than seeing Geralt looking bone tired with a 5 month old baby wailing in his arms, trying to soothe her.
"uh... What ya got there, Geralt?"
"H e l p."
Where's Yennefer? What about Yennefer?? Geralt is hesitant at first to even tell Yennefer he has a kid. But she sends him a letter one day, asking him where he is now that it's coming up on spring. (Ciri's first bday!!! Yay!!!! Also oh gods planning a birthday?!?!?!?? That's a thing??????) So he does tell her, and she understandably to her character demands to see this child surprise. So again, sends Eskel on out (pls Geralt, he's your childhood best friend, not your errand boy.) to go get Yennefer. Yennefer storms through the main hall, not even acknowledging Lambert and Vesemir, and right up to Geralt. How did she manage to find her way through the halls without ever being there before? Geralt doesn't know and he's scared by it. Yennefer spots Ciri, who's doing her tummy time. To which she's very fussy about and gives the nastiest glares an almost 1 year old can to her father. Yennefer is absolutely gobsmacked that Geralt was being genuine. She points to Ciri, then to Geralt, then back to Ciri, to Geralt.
"YOU?????? HOW????"
"I'm really bad at making jokes."
Yennefer adores Ciri, but Ciri is a little skeptical of her. Who is this strange woman????? Where is her dad?????? Where's her other dad (Dandelion)???? How dare she smell nice and be warm???? Ugh as if she'd let her feed her!!! No way! Yennefer is always completely drenched with baby food whenever she attempts to feed Ciri. Geralt tries so hard not to laugh at her. Ciri is absolutely seething by the end of it and is only contained when Geralt picks her up and holds her securely. Then it's like little devil Ciri never existed, she's all smiles and babbling happily to her dad. Yennefer gets really disheartened over it. Late at night she ends up crying over it, thinking it wouldn't matter if she was able to have kids or not; Ciri proves she'd be a horrible mother anyway. Geralt doesn't know what to say at first, but he knows it's not true. Yennefer is trying her best, it's just that Ciri is really fussy. She even fusses sometimes when Dandelion holds her. He tries to comfort Yen, and ends up deciding the best thing to do is hold her and tell her that she's doing amazing. He doesn't think she believes him because she's still got a very somber look on her face the next day. She becomes reluctant to take up care of Ciri because of the incident. Well about after the third day of this Ciri gets fussy again. Geralt is taking a well deserved nap day. He's back in his room snoozing away. Yennefer and Dandelion are with Ciri in the library, one of the warmest places in the keep. Dandelion wipes his hands of the ink that stains them and picks her up and checks if she's soiled. She isn't, so he asks if she's hungry. She thrashes around in his hold and turns in search of Yennefer and starts grabbing towards her. So Dandelion hands her over to Yen. The moment Ciri's resting against Yennefer she settles down.
"huh, guess she just wanted her mommy." Dandelion comments and Yennefer starts crying. (Dandelion's face morphed from aww to OH FUCK)
The bigger Ciri gets the more rambunctious and energetic. Geralt couldn't be prouder that they're all raising her to be genuine to herself and that they've broken the generational trauma. Vesemir pats Geralt on the shoulder one day and tells him "I'm proud of you, Wolf" and damn, if that doesn't make him want to cry. He doesn't of course, only meeting Ciri made him cry from joy. And oh how she gives Lambert a run for his money. It's hilarious to see a 60-something year old argue with a 4 year old. They get into the most stupid arguments too. "blue is better than red!" Or "I'm taller than you" which is the most absurd because it's always Ciri who starts it. Geralt thinks it's because Lambert is the shortest besides Vesemir. But Vesemir has only become short due to his old age, and Ciri already gives him a hard time for that. ("Why are you so fat and old? Aren't you a Witcher like Daddy?" She said once and Vesemir just paused and looked at her like "why would you say that to me". She burst into a giggle fit at his crushed expression.)
The argument will always, without fail, go:
C: I'm taller than you.
L: no you're not? I'm 5'11!
C: well I'm 8 feet tall!!!!
L: more like 2 feet tall!
C: NO! SEE
Then she'll stand on the chair so she towers over Lambert.
L: fine well I'm older.
C: no??? My birthday is first
L: NO ITS NOT?
C: YEAH IT IS
L: NO APRIL IS BEFORE MAY. AND IM 67, YOU'RE 4
C: uhhhhh I hate to break it to you, but no you're not. You've been lied to your whole life.
L: W H AT WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE????
C: uhmmmmm god.
Then when Coën finally meets one of the Wolves and comes up to Kaer Morhen he's shocked to see someone so young. At the time Ciri was around 7. She calls him ugly and walks away to the stables. Coën is just left flabbergasted while Lambert and Eskel are laughing their asses off. Geralt apologizes to him, while trying to hold in his laughter. Coën becomes like an older brother to Ciri, and he gets on her good side by helping her prank Lambert.
When Ciri hits 12 she does get her period, and Geralt is like "OH GOD OH FUCK HOW DO I TALK TO HER ABOUT THIS I DONT WANT TO MAKE IT-" and Yennefer walks into the room and goes "I told her, we're good."
Then comes the "boy talk" Where Ciri brought up that a character in a romance book was attractive and Geralt went into "No one is good enough for my baby girl" dad mode and brashly announced "you're not allowed to date boys until you're 21."
Yennefer slaps him on the arm and Ciri looks at him almost offended.
"jokes on you I don't even know if I LIKE boys. Maybe I just like this character's personality." She replies sassily. Geralt cannot argue with that logic. (And yes 2 months later, she goes on a day trip with Yen and talks to a girl her age. She comes back and Geralt asks her how it went and she says "I definitely like girls." And walks up to her room to take a nap. Geralt celebrates as soon as she leaves "YES!!! I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SOME BRUTE MESSING WITH MY DAUGHTER FUCK YEAH" Yennefer reminds him that some women are just as bad and he crumples to the floor in agony. Now he has to worry about brutish women hurting his daughter.)
Essentially, I just love that Geralt has a daughter, and that he's so proud of her and loves her so much. Their relationship is just so 🥹❤️ I adore them.

the thing i have the biggest beef with in the witcher netflix is the fact that the writers seem to. like. not like jaskier. like they make geralt be a dick to him “i’m not your friend” and then have geralt turn around and be friendly and affectionate with loads of other characters. moussack “old friend”, that flashback with eskel, “you’re important to me, triss” why can’t we get this same energy with jaskier. begging for a proper apology in season 3 that jaskier doesn’t have to basically fish out of geralt my dude deserves better

title: the witcher and the kraken of hate by molanna
word count: 4k
ciri&geralt; ciri has a nightmare so geralt tells her a bedtime story.
i love the way the bedtime story unfolds with ciri’s interruptions and geralt’s attempt to teach her something in a way she can understand but isn’t too simplified or talking down to her.
excerpt:
"Tell me a story. Like Moussack used to do when I couldn't sleep," Ciri pleads, looking at him with big green eyes. "But not a silly children's story. A Witcher story. Please, Geralt."
"Hmm." He knits his brow. A Witcher story. There are so many, and most of them are scary and bloody. But, when he was a young boy, he and his brothers had loved it when Vesemir told them stories of his or other Witchers' deeds, the bloodier and scarier, the better, and it had not harmed them in any way. Why should Ciri be different? An exciting monster story might take her mind off the hated black knight and her own trauma, at least for a while. Maybe she can learn something from the story, too?
"Alright, a story it is," Geralt says. "A story of a terrible monster and a Witcher, a true story. That agreeable?"
Ciri nods vigorously and moves to the side a little to make more space for Geralt. He settles against the headrest, his legs stretched out on the bed, and Ciri snuggles up to him with a bright smile, her nightmare almost forgotten.

About that post I made a few days ago and deleted, I think Cahir was meant to have sexually assaulted Ciri but Sapkowski changed his mind. Like it's pretty clear
If we death of the author everything the only other possibility is general misinterpretation of Ciris trauma by both cast and narrator, on top of Maussack (Moussack?) being mistaken about what awaken the magical talents of hen iheir [I feel like my spelling is way off lol. No internet rn tho] (which would be losing ones virginity if possessing the gene) AND the massive coincidence of Pavettas pregnancy. (I mean tbf it's not that massive. Especially with fate/destiny and everything on top. And the fact that it's a story and I am slowly turning into cinemasins)

guys I know we like to joke about ‘immortal Jaskier’ but I was messing around on the interactive Witcher timeline and like, Jaskier was born in 1220, met Geralt in 1240 and the dragon hunt happened in 1262. This means that Jaskier was traveling with Geralt from the age of 18 to 42 and didn’t age AT ALL. I guess I’m just absolutely wildin’ cause they aged the other humans characters like Ciri, Calanthe and even Moussack who technically should age slower cause he’s a druid but Jaskier?? Get u a mosturizing routine like that

All the fandom questions for The Witcher!
Going based on the Show only because I have read exactly one chapter of the books and finished the tutorial of Wild Hunt.
1. The first character I fell in love with: Renfri
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Yennefer (Don’t even get me started on how much I love Mage Wife, but I will say it didn’t happen until the second time I watched), Eist (poor man just wanted to love a badass and raise a sassy granddaughter and deserved to dammit), Moussack
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: N/A? I can’t think of anyone
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Does Valdo count? No but seriously, either because there isn’t any or because I have carefully tailored my dash to not have any, I haven’t seen any character hate.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Renfri. I mean I still think she’s great, but at least the show version of her is...kind of one note/generic/blank-slate because she is only in the one episode. :/
6. The character I would totally smooch: Yes? Seriously, there are so many characters I am in love with on this show that I don’t know what to do with myself. Top 3: Jaskier, Yennefer...maybe Moussack?
7. The character I’d want to be like: Triss and her plant mage badassery I think. I dunno, there are lots of little bits of lots of characters I’d like to emulate more than this is any one character.
8. The character I’d slap: Stregobitch. Although he deserves more than a slap. Also Cahir because he’s got that whole malicious villainy thing shtick but he doesn’t even do it well and that offends me.
9. A pairing that I love: Calenthe x Eist, Jaskier x some goddamn respect
10. A pairing that I despise: Despise is a strong word but I’m not a fan of Yennefer x Tissaia so that one I guess. Also I’ve seen some weird Jaskier x future!Ciri that like...hard nah.

What choices have netflix made that you don't like so far? (I'm so interested) (Also is tnw just The Netflix Witcher? I'm not sure if I'm missing something)
Since lately there' been a bit of negativity towards twn (from what I saw at least - and yes! it stands for "The Witcher Netflix", I hope I typed it correctly in my last posts) I'm going to add a "read more" in case you don't want to see more of that. Also, I'd like to point out that I did enjoy the show; it wasn't *great* IMHO (Joey Batey was though), but it was ok! And I'm indeed looking forward to season two! I must admit that I'm a bit scared, but I'm also very curious
It's been a while since I last saw twn and read the books, so forgive me if I forget something!
First of all, I must admit that I can't remember anything about episode 7 and 8 (and I will ignore the Cahir/Vilgefortz thing as that's season 2 (3?) material and it's too soon to judge) except for the ending. And, unfortunately, that's my biggest disappointment: Geralt and Ciri's reunion at the end of season 1. Which is kind of a big deal. I mean, it's not even a reunion, since they decided to remove Geralt and Ciri's early meeting in Brokilon which is such a shame because 1. it's an adorable short story who sets the base for Geralt and Ciri's relationship; 2. Ciri's fun!! She's a kid, she's mischievous, spoiled, that little "she-devil"...:') while in the show she's really one-dimensional; 3. it would have given much more emotional power to the season finale. Now please compare:
“Geralt!” the little girl repeated, clinging to the witcher's chest. “You've found me! I knew it! I always knew! I knew you'd find me!”
“Ciri,” the witcher said. [...]
“You've finally found me! Oh, Geralt! I waited all this time! Yes, a terribly long time... We'll stay together now, won't we? Now we'll be together, right? Say it, Geralt! Forever! Say it!”
“Forever, Ciri.”
“Yes, just like they said! Geralt! Like they said... I'm your destiny? Say it! I'm your destiny?” [...]
“You're something more, Ciri. Something more.”
to:
"...Who's Yennefer?"
I know they needed a cliffhanger, but this is not an excuse. When my mother saw s1's finale she was like "ok", when I finished Sword of Destiny I wept. Geralt also met Jaskier before being reunited with Ciri and it hurts, because their exchange is one of my favourites in the books' series but obviously they couldn't show that. Thanks episode 6.
And talking about Brokilon...I don't know if you're familiar with GoT, but they could just have put Bran in place of Ciri and I probably wouldn't have even noticed. What an awful and useless subplot. Did anyone even enjoy it? I'm not judging, it's just mere curiosity, as I had a really hard time watching it without falling asleep or just getting annoyed at it. I understand that the "Eternal Flame" short story (in which dopplers are introduced) didn't really fit the show's atmosphere and direction (also Geralt talking about fashion with Jaskier because they're friends? pffffffffffffff right they don't like that), but I'm afraid the whole 'Moussack doppler' (and Ciri's adventure in Brokilon in general) was a poor narrative choice IMHO.
This is a minor one, but for me it was a really bad, bad casting choice: King Foltest. What the fuck was that. I'm sure the actor is a lovely person and I don't have anything against him, but that was *not* King Foltest. I'm sorry for making a GoT reference again, but I'm pretty sure that was discount Robert Baratheon with his wife's taste in romance. I got so mad when I saw him. *sigh*
Then there are some little details that I loved in the book, but they didn't make it to the show. For example, in the "Last Wish" if I remember correctly (and please correct me if I'm wrong) the elves saved Jaskier's life but they couldn't do anything about his permanently injured throat and so Geralt decided to find Yennefer because he was so mad that his bard friend wouldn't be able to sing anymore and that his friend was injured on his watch and he wasn't able to prevent that and protect him. This ofc was completely changed in the show, where Geralt is the one who hurts Jaskier by making the infamous wish. And you know, this could have been interesting, but again, Geralt doesn't consider Jaskier his friend and so it just adds that "tsundere drama" I don't really get??? I joked about episode 6 earlier, but I actually find the break up scene a thrilling choice that diverges from the original source. If only they had been friends in the first place. :( Sometimes I wonder if they didn't really expect Jaskier to become the fan's favourite?

i love the witcher show! it's my favorite canon by far. what's your guys' favorite thing about the show?
Since you asked for "you guys", I asked the server.
@childoffantasy: the choreography, Henry Cavill's face.
@jlyarts: Jaskier's eyes and his costumes.
@major-trouble: the lute, Jaskier's outfits. Every single one of Jaskier's stupid facial expressions.
@caspertheassholeghost: the fact that the camera zooms on on Cavill's ass, the fight choreography, particularly with Renfri.
@jayofolympus: I fucking love the black eyes potion look. I have a Thing for the "creepy physical effects caused by magic/potions/whatever". Gimme more creepy black veins and fucked up looks. The fight scene between Geralt and Renfri was so cool too.
@rawrkinjd: Yeah, I really loved the Hexer.
@roseskye13: The expression on Cavill's face when he's talking to the peasants about the Striga when he first arrives, before he knows what it is or that it already killed a witcher. "What happens if you can't kill it my" "Then I die."
@sometimesiwrite: Honestly, the fight coreography and execution is stunning, as is the filming for those scenes. The flow, form, and timing are all so tight, and that kind of thing only works when all the cogs are meshing from everyone's hard work. Springing off of that, I get a really strong Ensemble vibe from the cast. Even though the episodes are, for the first season, little one-offs, there's a really strong sense of healthy cohesion--not just actors all doing their darnedest, but actors who are bonding, trusting, and having fun with each other in the process. It makes me really happy to see and I hope it continues in the upcoming season.
@cylin-aka-ankamo: I loved Moussack/Ermion and I like show Yennefer better than game Yennifer. I loved the backstory they gave her. Tissaia is also great! The fight choreography is also amazing. Yeah, I think the thing I appreciate most about the show, is that it made me start in the fandom and that the fandom is really diverse and also unusual as fandoms go, cause there is quite a mix of age groups, whcih I appreciate so, so much.
@so--many-fandoms: I like how they have her (Triss) a personality/characterization that was more than “pls fuck me geralt”, it makes it easier to separate the Netflix version of her from the books/game version that does some questionable stuff in her obsession with Geralt and like. This triss is a bamf (well game Triss is too, but.). I like the way they had Geralt’s armor go from pristine condition pre-Blaviken to a bunch of rags barely holding together immediately afterwards and then gradually improving as his reputation and self-image do
@hungarianbee: phew. netflix? music and jaskier's costume are a yes. renfri and calanthe and eist and mousesack were lovely. the main thing i would say of the show that was a positive: it brought together a fandom and made it possible to meet y'all.
@eyesofshinigami: I actually also really enjoyed getting to see Yennefer's back story. It made me appreciate the things she's gone through and understand her as a character a little more. Maybe it's just me, but also one think I like is how easy it felt to blend them with other mediums in the witcher universe. Like, I love writing TWN!Jaskier with W3!Geralt, and I like that. I know that might not be true for everyone, but for me as a writer it gave me a lot of opportunity to sort of... explore different facets and avenues of the characters. The show was what got me into the Witcher in the first place, and now I've played W3 and have been trying to work through the books and I've run the tabletop, and met all you lovely folks.
@winter-fir: Well my favourite things about the show are, the way it's filmed (camera angles, settings) I really like the places they pick to film in. I like Henry Cavill as Geralt. The soundtrack works very well despite the fact that it was some modern twists. Love the fight scenes, specially the Blaviken fight the way they managed to portrait that Geralt wasn't human in the way he fights a group of men. I also love the Visenna scene, I have watch that scene so many times, the way Henry shows emotion in his eyes despite the bad contacts, gets me.
@anonymousblueberry: I adored show!Triss.
There were hundreds of posts, I'm a tired mod and lost track of the thread. But other things that came up included the music, the way the scores and overlapped, the set and locations, Yennefer's portrayal on multiple occasions and the casting of other female characters, and the costuming. And not everyone was online, so I'm sure there would have been a lot more. Hope this satiates your curiosity, Non.

There is no heretosexual explanation for the fact that Geralt struggles to use the word “friend” for Jaskier even after decades together but openly and unapologetically calls Moussack an “old friend”.

comfy, you asked for eskel headcanons: you know I'm a slut for blacksmith eskel, so if you could give me your take on that :) and I also love eskel as a loving uncle to young ciri, braiding her hair doing sword practice with her!
listen i fucking love blacksmith Eskel
That boy has the Stronk and the Precise to make the most well-balanced weapons but they’re also gorgeous. He makes Ciri a set of witcher swords when she turns 18 and not only do they fit her grip and fighting style perfectly, they’re also decorated with intricately wrought crossbars that match the woven pattern on her grandmother’s sash.
When she was little he was the one to take her through sword drills and who she sought out when she wanted to talk. Of course, she loved Geralt, but Eskel was much more open and reminded her of Moussack with his storytelling and manners. I think she taught him how to braid hair if only because her arms would get tired quickly and it gave her an excuse to chat with him as part of their daily routine.
Ciri prefers to bathe before supper, after training so she doesn’t feel sweaty all day, so after their meal, while all the other witchers are sipping on their drinks by the fire Eskel braids her hair. She’ll sit on a pillow in front of his chair, usually closest to the fire, and he’ll slowly and methodically section her hair off and weave it together. When she’s really tired she’ll fall asleep with her head resting back against his knee as he finishes the end of the braid.
As she grows up she makes Geralt get his hair braided too so they can match and Eskel eventually teaches him too. But it’s still their little ritual.
oh now I made myself yearn Ellie you always get me right in the feels

A Nailed It! Notwip
We have an amazing Baker!Eskel fic and fic where Jaskier and the Kaer Morons are bomb at seasoning/baking bread/cooking meat that have been written for the fandom.
I present to you a modern comedy au based on Nailed It! that I'll never write and anyone can have if they want.
Jaskier, and two others as chefs/judges, I'm so tempted to say Eist and Moussack. The Kaer Morons are the contestants.
Each witcher coming in, their intros as they do:
Lambert for his intro: My boyfriend Aiden got me into baking. Honestly, he can't bake at all but one night he really wanted cookies after we had a bunch of beer and all the stores were closed so...I googled a Betty Crocker recipe and here I am. The cookies tasted like bricks, but drunk boyfriends don't care.
Eskel for his intro: Sometimes you just get curious about baking. Vesemir can bake bread and I wanted to learn how. He was reluctant. In retrospect he had good reason to be, I've never baked in my life. My bread came out tasting terrible, but it was a soothing process so I keep trying.
Geralt for his intro: I can't bake. I know I can't. My daughter is embarrassed when I bring homemade stuff to family dinners, that's why I keep doing it, that and it's become a competition between my brothers and me.
---
Judge Jaskier questions Geralt's process during the first round.
Geralt: Hmm
---
Lambert serves a burnt cake he almost rage-igni'd the mixer while making.
---
Eskel gets overly happy when the topic they get is nursery rhymes, but immediately shock-face when Lambert grabs the Mary and Her Little Lamb cookie in the first round.
---
It gives me the happy feels and all the laughs envisioning this chaos of a show, but I know I'm having trouble writing right now so, so enjoy.

The Colour-Magic Theory (4/?)
Intro  Part 1  Part 2  Part 3
A/N: ooof, the past two weeks were busy af but hopefully I’ll be able to update this story more often from now on! :D
***
Silences uncover many tales.
Princess Cirilla knows when she isn’t told something. She was raised in a court – a place where things unsaid are often more important than any words which have been spoken. After thirteen years of living in such environment, she’s got very good at determining which silences matter and, thanks to this ability, she’s certain that there’s a lot more to the story of her parents’ betrothal than her grandmother allows anyone to say.
She’s always realised that she isn’t normal, even with her royal status aside. The inexplicable dreams that comforted her in her early childhood have never gone away or revealed anything about what they mean, and they aren’t even the only mystery Cirilla cannot solve.
As she grows up, she discovers that plants and animals communicating with her isn’t the only thing peculiar about her. She’s also able to sense power around her – she feels it swirl in the air every time Moussack does some magic trick, she knows when some people are connected and is aware that she’s at one end of such a link. It tugs at her, urging her to go somewhere, to someone. There’s also power inside her – an incredible fury that thrums and waits, lurking. It’s buried somewhere deep and she has no idea how to release it, to finally have it calm down. The constant buzz is so tiring and she just wants to scream, sometimes.
Ciri still tries to let the power loose in the only way she can think of – doing magic. She asks Moussack to make something levitate and later tries to recreate his hand gestures, the way the magic around felt. When she finally successes to do the trick, her inner power hums even more than usual but nothing else happens. After that, she tries to perfect her levitating skills and finds that she can make things float in the air for hours – the stones upon which Cintra was built are ancient and they support her. Lazlo doesn’t understand this when she explains it to him, and she doesn’t either. At least he keeps her secret.
The questions mount with no answer in sight and in the end, Cirilla doesn’t ask. She doesn’t ask about her parents’ betrothal, or if they had powers too and she just inherited them, or just why she is like this at all. She doesn’t ask and doesn’t say anything about it to anyone but plants and animals – she somehow knows that they can be trusted, even though they offer no response that would make anything any more clear.
Birds especially are unhelpful chatterboxes. They say a lot of simple sentences and phrases, and Cirilla has learnt to glean as much information from bird-speak as possible, but sometimes it all still feels like a code she can’t crack. She knows she’s missing something. She’s painfully aware of it when birds arriving from three parts of the world cry, “He’s coming! He’s coming! He’s coming!”.
“Who’s coming?” Cirilla asks them.
They don’t answer. She isn’t given enough time to decipher their silence. He arrives.

Ok with the striga story with the incredibly yikes description of the 14 year old, there's actually some interesting lore things in there. (Not even remotely defending that description, it is objectively horrendous)
Basically, it was written a while before any of the other witcher things and was originally entered into a short story competition. And it was never intended to have a massive story spring from it.
And like, because of that, some of the lore is so different. A whole thing in the witcher is that witchers are essentially a dying cast and also are no longer needed because of the great reach of humans.
But in this witchers are new and there are a lot of them! And it's definitely not a timeline thing, because Foltest is king, which he also is in the main events.
And also how witchers come to be is different. You know there's the incredibly awful trials and those male you a witcher with superhuman senses and strength and ability to drink potions?
In this short story witchers are basically fighters who built up a tolerance to potions over a very long time. Other than this (and the powers they have when they take said potions) they're basically just strong dudes who are good with swords.
I can't think of any other blatant contradictions off the top of my head (except the characterisation of Geralt at times, particularly at the start when he kills 3 people to get the attention of a noble who has a conract, which is very out of character)
I just find it really interesting.
There are also other instances of direct contradictions, particularly with the short stories in the last wish which were written quite far apart and often without any idea of a larger narrative.
Another one I can think of is the fact that apparently Pavetta needed to not be a virgin to be able to use her power, whereas later this is a misconception that Ciri has, which is categorically said to not be true by Yennefer.
Also even whether or not a) witchers have to be children of surprise and, even better, b) whether Geralt himself is a child of surprise, are said both ways.
(Moussack says Geralt is a child of surprise in the Pavetta Duny short story, Geralt says he's just a simple foundling to Calanthe when he goes to try and check up on Ciri when she's 6 (which he actually does in the book))
Anyway, this ask is rather long, I just find this really interesting and infodumping is a thing
It's just really interesting!!!
Even how well witchers can see in the dark is changed!
The lore is a nightmare!
oh my god is this why in ep3 a wolf witcher died n geralt was just like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "sux to be him" like i was always so confused by that cause aren't witchers???? supposed to be rare????
also i realized this after watching the witcher for the second time but Sorceresses are supposed to be infertile!! and yet geralt's mom is a sorceress!! but ESKEL'S the one who's good with magic!!! andrzej it doesn't make sense!!!
you're absolutely right tho, dearest anon, the lore is an absolute nightmare

saw a post saying that jaskier not being mentioned in episodes 7 and 8 makes it seem like geralt really doesn't care about him and that take makes me really kind of upset.
because, like, i recognize a lot of my own difficulties with people/relationships in geralt -- it's part of why i read geralt as nd, because i'm nd and there are a lot of ways he reminds me of myself. so people raising the idea for Angst Points that geralt seems to not care because he doesn't mention jaskier during that section of the story rubs me the wrong way.
why would geralt mention him? based on the canon we've seen, he's got no reason to suspect jaskier would have anything to do with cintra at this point in time, so mentioning him to calanthe or eist or moussack wouldn't really make sense, and if jaskier's not in cintra during the slaughter, and geralt has no reason to believe he was, geralt has no reason to ask after him at any point thereafter.
geralt doesn't talk about things that are extraneous to his current circumstances. he's not a talker.
i definitely talk more, and more extraneously, than he does -- but that's part of my job, and i'm the kind of person who is actively trying to make people like me. geralt, obviously, is neither of those things.
that said, i also have this propensity to not think about people outside of specific contexts, and i think that that's something geralt probably also deals with, because, well, that's how life has taught him to think and behave: people -- barring yen and jaskier -- don't really care about a witcher, beyond what monster he can kill for them, or they actively want him gone outside that specific context.
so geralt doesn't need to think about people outside of the contexts he primarily knows them from, so he wouldn't.
jaskier, after all, left. geralt's got no reason to believe jaskier's ever coming back, and no reason to believe jaskier was in danger. so, when geralt goes to rescue ciri, to finally meet his destiny head on, there's no reason jaskier would be on his mind. jaskier isn't an active part of his life anymore, jaskier's not in cintra, ciri is his priority right now.
that's not a measure of his feelings about jaskier any more than my feelings for my partner are measured by how little i think about her when something urgent is happening at work, and she's not actively messaging me on discord. certainly i mention her to my work friends, but, again, i'm actively trying to connect to people and have people like me. i'm actively trying to counteract the instinct to compartmentalize.
and idk, it kind of feels like the implication that geralt doesn't really care is speaking to the assumption that neurotypicals have that people with certain kinds of neurodivergencies don't have feelings, or feel less, or care less -- things, mind, that people in-universe think about witchers -- and that hurts on a couple of levels for me.
idk i'm probably just getting defensive of geralt because i vibe with his flaws, and i do that when i 'same hat' a character over neurodivergencies. i spent like a year defending eisenberg's lex luthor in the dceu because oh boy. that man. same hat. and people were shitty to me about it, so i'm a little defensive by default now, i guess.
