City of Rocks State Park encompasses one square mile in the Chihuahuan desert of southwestern New Mexico. Located at an elevation of 5,200 feet above sea level, the rocks were deposited on the plains 34.9 million years ago when one of the volcanoes in the Black Range erupted. The rock columns, or pinnacles, tower as high as 40 feet, with paths and trails forming the streets through the stone "city." Great location for camping, mountain biking, stargazing, hiking, wildlife viewing & birding.

spent a week training for enduro, had a beautiful and colorful time in the desert on a solo camping roadtrip. 18-25 mile daily average ride, found a safe quiet little spot to setup a base camp and came back for sunset every night to cook good food and relax by the fire.

So Turns Out !
My shoulder myscle pain is likely due to my hypermobility issues lmao. My occupational therapist was moving my arms around as part of the initial assessment & found that the muscles are tight, but the joints themselves are very loose. Which would explain the tension in the muscles, since they have to overcompensate for the bad joints.
At this, i mentioned to my occupational therapist that I can literally pull my shoulders out of socket, and she was just Laughing, bc Yeah, that would explain it.
So we will be doing work to strengthen the muscles around my shoulders, not just the problem muscles, to try to lessen the amount of strain they feel. I Also am supposed to work to fix my posture lol, since that also messes with the shoulder shit.
So! There is a path to recovery! I just gotta work for it.
#speculation nation#i wore my new nice hiking shoes to the appointment just bc im wearing them everywhere rn#trying to break them in before my mountain hiking trip in june.#the assistant noticed them & commented on them. both of them were impressed by the shoes#& wished me luck on my hikes when i mentioned i was breaking them in for the trip 😌#i do like that i Am actually a kind of physically active person. nice to have these kinds of conversations.#like Yes... i am One Of You... someone who goes on hiking trips and bikes frequently ☺️#in any case im on my way home now. heres hoping i come back to a minimally flooded apartment!!#(that is. the thing that this morning was kind of a shitshow for. rly fucking hoping it hasnt gotten worse#but i'll just have to get home and see :p)

Now why the hell do I have such intensely realistic dreams I had to wake up and stare at the ceiling for like ten minutes to make sure I was alive.
#me 🤝 having dreams where everyone is mad at me and also I'm having a near death experience and everyone is still mad at me#literally had a dream that I was riding a bike and got hit by a car and woke up in the hospital then felt like shit but was okay enough and#then in my dream I was like hmm I wanna go to a gas station to get snacks bc that's why I was biking in the first place and so I drove to a#random gas station and came back to my car after getting snacks and there was a fucking mountain lion inside my car that immediately pounced#on me and started trying to bite my face and no one would fucking help me at all#it was terrifying and I literally like argued with my mom in the dream and she said all this personal horrible shit and didn't care at all#that I was hit by a car and then I went to the gas station and millie was there and she was mad at me for not going on some trip with her#and her family even tho I was like nah dude I was like JUST hit by a car this morning bro I don't wanna go to Connecticut with u and ur fam#and even the gas station clerk was mad at me for some reason and he tried to charge me a hundred dollars for a pack of icebreakers and a#box of strawberries like dude what the fuck is wrong with my brain but I remember every fucking detail of it like why is my brain so evil#my brain will be like hmm time to dream... let's think about exactly how it would feel to almost die once and then be mauled by a big cat#like why in my dreams do I feel everything that happens to me. why did I feel my broken nose and he blood dripping down my face and the road#burn across my body why are my dreams like yeah u can smell the mountain lions breath as you're trying to hit it with ur purse and it's like#drooling on ur face cause it's trying to wrap it's jaws around your entire head#like bruh. hey brain. did I really need that today? did I really need two near death experiences in one dream? and also everyone hates me?#was that really necessary brain? my brain also had the audacity to set the dream in New Hampshire during winter. why would I be riding a#bike in the middle of winter and then be slammed into the road and then be attacked by a lion what message is that trying to tell me exactly#when I woke up I literally touched my nose to make sure it wasn't broken thats how fucking real my dreams are I hate it#anyways I'm mad at my brain for having hyper realistic dreams where I'm in pain physically and emotionally

hii i want to add some of my own pics from when i went to a geology field camp in new mexico!
1st pic was taken at jemez springs, 2 & 3 are in white rock canyon (the river in 2 is the rio grande!), 4-6 are from the san ysidro anticline, and 7 is a view i had of some mountain we flew over, but i have no idea what it’s called. it was so beautiful there
“oh, I live in a desert and-”
“wow that must be so terrible” “deserts are so ugly” “I would never want to live in a wasteland like that” “it’s just empty nothingness”
wishing 10,000 exploding hammers upon you
behold New Mexico
[ID 1: tall, snowcapped rocky mountains rising above a plain filled with desert scrub
ID 2: brightly colored banded cliff walls of several mesas climbing their way into mountains
ID 3: a desert prairie
ID 4: colorful hoodoos against a twilight sky
ID 5: white sand dunes as far as the eye can see
ID 6: a collection of hoodoos against a stormy sky at sunset
ID 7: a juniper tree standing with a cliff wall in the background
ID 8: several juniper trees on a rocky landscape]
#prev tags is so so true like geology is fucking crazy and makes you appreciate deserts so much#deserts are obvi worthwhile in their own right as an ecosystem etc but the stuff you can learn from them about earth’s history is amazing#now i have to talk about my experience here though i think i have before but it was wack#despite its beauty i was down for the count thrice during that trip#first in white canyon second in san ysidro and third i maybe had covid and couldn’t go the the last site 🙃#i had to walk down that precarious little ridge in the 5th picture.#it was actually terrifying like i was trying so hard not to cry that day man …#it’s a mountain biking area so there was basically a little gutter the width of a mountain bike path (barely wider than my foot)#and to the right of that path is a little ridge no more than 12 inches wide then that talus slope down the the bottom#in the 6th picture is the same ridge from the other side of the canyon#im scared of heights man ….#i can deal in some situations but on a downhill ridge narrower than i am tall on a windy day after already being exhausted#from working the days before & climbing to the top that morning. i nearly freaked it#reblog#birdsong#landscapes
