Return of the Blossoming Blade

Cheongmyeong wears his green ribbon to tie his hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...... in the light novel, the game collab’, in the PV and finally the webtoon!
- In past: He wore it until his death.
- After 100 years: At the beginning of the work, he did not even have the means to tie his hair, being a young beggar. His financial situation, like Mount Hua, would surely prevent him from obtaining one of them.
- Then after two years: He wears a green ribbon. Again.
- And finally 3 years later: the dark green of the Tang family remains by his side.
-----------
I recently learned that the color green * often represents healing, happiness, friendship and health in China. Symbol of spring, it recalls growth and rebirth, which translates into a new beginning.
Friendship [...] 😭
Apparently, although green clothing (ribbon too) is welcome, hats are not. Wearing green hat = one’s partner unfaithful.
In dynasty Tang (618 – 907) wearing green headcloth was a penalty for people who has commited crimes. Centuries later, in the Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasty, some greens were intended for prostitutes and their relatives.
Honorable green:
Light green, crab shell cyan (Xi ke Qing) = for pottery
Green bamboo (Zhu Qing) = loyal, gentleman, elegant, straightforward
Green jasper (Bi Yu Shi) = decency
Green Jade (Yu Se) = virtue, honor
Green Cyan (Qing Se) = wood, hope, forest [like King forest’s clothes: Lim Sobyeong]
Scallion green (Cong lv)= greens, vigorous plants
Spoiler!!!!! 🚧🚨
Tang Bo: (light novel, first mention: chapter 189 and first appearance: chapter 197, flashback)
Tumblr media
Tang Bo [당보]:
- According to the Q&A, he was about 5~6 years younger than Cheongmyeong (Plum Blossom Sword Saint)
- He was an elder of the Tang family 100 years ago
- Died during the war against the Heavenly Demon Sect (~ 76 years old)
- Specialty: dagger, poison, medicine
- Region: Sichuan
- [not yet represented in the webtoon]
- He was an absolute master of his time who was given the title of Dark Saint / Dark Master
- Cheongmyeong's only true friend
- Dague Specialty: Twelve Flying Blades
- He likes to smoke and drink alcohol
- He's a cheeky guy with a way of scratching people's insides.
- He's beaten to a pulp every time by Cheongmyeong, but he had a temper (obviously, he’s mad dog’s friend)
- He has no direct descendants
- he called Cheongmyeong: hyung-nim
*(the meaning of this color is quite similar in Korea) ^^

Tang bo return au inspired by ge's and azu1as Tangchung arranged marriage au
Something Something happens and chung myung ends up needing to be (faked) married for a short awhile so the tang family offers the hand of a distant tang cousin who's been making waves in the cultivation world and getting stronger during the last 3 years (*note that this is after cm is 21 ) who seems to REALLY hate the demonic cult and the great sects who won't meet each other until the wedding day
Now on the outsider pov we have people up and down making sure everything is doing good on said wedding night , and it is ..... except for the fact that said wedding grooms seem to be late for THEIR OWN WEDDING
Thankfully the mount hua disciplines see their youngest coming, not so Thankfully he's coming covered in blood dragging a (dead or unconscious ? ) demonic cult member and all of you are worrying about the poor groom who doesn't deserve to be tied down to this heart attack inducing menace ,except the groom ALSO Shows up covered in blood dragging a (also dead or unconscious ?! ) body without a care in the world, then all of you see your youngest FREEZE at the site of him as if he saw the dead coming back to life he did
And the tang groom freezes too and whispers in awe and confusion " taoist hyung-nime!? "
The crazy bastards proceed to drop the bodies and launch at each other with desperation
And all of you are hit with a horrible gut feeling that this isn't going to be a "fake" wedding after all .

What do you think about tang bo vs tang gunak for cheongmyeong. With either tang bo time travelling/reincarnated to the future or tang gunak time travel to the past?
hello!! i am so so sorry this is super late 🥺 I've been rotating this ask in my head for two months because there's simply so many possibilities with this, I absolutely love love love it!
»—————————–✄
To say that Tang Zhan's twin brother was a bit of a recluse would be an understatement.
Despite being named after one of the most renowned members of the Tang Family, Tang Gunak's son took after the known worst traits of their great ancestor.
Tang Bo was as cold and uncaring as the earlier recounts of his namesake. But unlike their ancestor, his son wasn't interested in improving his martial arts. Rather, he seemed to content himself with staying indoors and building that strange shrine of his that appeared to be dedicated to the Plum Blossom Sword Saint.
Tang Gunak sighs tiredly. He could never get a straight answer from his son whenever he asked about his odd obsession with Mount Hua's hero. Through the years, he's learned to brush it off as another eccentricity of his son.
The one time he ordered Tang Pae and Tang Zhan to remove their brother's shrine, they both ended up needing immediate medical assistance because of how viciously Tang Bo had attacked them for 'desecrating' his altar.
He thinks it's such a shame that Tang Bo refuses to partake in his siblings' training, but despite his adamant refusal, his son's core is still one of the strongest among his siblings.
And one of the purest too, it suddenly comes to Tang Gunak's mind as he watches Chung Myung cheerfully chug down another bottle of alcohol.
It feels almost wrong how easy it was to compare Chung Myung's core with his son's despite them being on vastly different spectrums while having equally well-known namesakes from their respective family and sect.
On one end in the dark, there was Tang Bo who quietly cultivated his core as he whispered quiet mutterings to his altar and refused interactions with people unnecessarily. And on the other was Chung Myung, who was at the forefront of Mount Hua's rise.
It was admirable, truly.
Tang Gunak would say so as much if it weren't for the sudden killing intent he could feel directed at him.
Standing outside right in front of the window with no subtlety whatsoever was his son, Tang Bo. His face was pressed against the window panes and Tang Gunak only realized then how threatening of an aura his son could produce.
Chung Myung wiped the drips of alcohol away from his lips and cast Tang Bo an amused look, "Aren't you going to finally let him in?"
Tang Gunak would have if he didn't know that his son would begin to antagonize him the moment he's let into the room by monopolizing Chung Myung's attention and looking smug about it. It happened during their first meeting in the dining hall so Tang Gunak wouldn't be surprised if it happened all over again.
He would lean overly into Chung Myung's space and call him 'hyung' with an exaggerated tone despite being the older of the two. And much to everyone else's bafflement and discomfort, Chung Myung wordlessly let him.
While Tang Gunak was glad that his son finally deemed it alright to leave the confines of his room, he isn't sure if the change in obsession from the Plum Blossom Sword Saint to Mont Hua's Divine Dragon was a fair exchange.
Tang Gunak watches as Chung Myung makes his way to the window and leans against Tang Bo from the other side.
Tang Bo's face noticeably softens as his gaze shifts toward the younger man and it twists a strange part of Tang Gunak's stomach to watch the same thing happen to Chung Myung's face.
Said man taps against the glass pane, "Stop being so intense. You're freaking your dad out."
His son grumbles while tossing him another stink-eye—Tang Gunak has gotten his fair share of those this past week ever since these two struck up a sudden close friendship. His gaze turns petulant as he returns his attention to Chung Myung.
"What is it about me making friends that you hate so much," Chung Myung rolls his eyes in exasperation.
"My father doesn't want you to be 'just friends'."
Tang Gunak would be more offended by the vitriol in the way Tang Bo called him his father if he weren't distracted by the weird tone his son spoke the last phrase.
Tang Bo takes a look at the mutual confusion on Chung Myung and Tang Gunak's faces and isn't sure if he's thankful or annoyed that he's surrounded by painfully emotionally oblivious people.
Less competition but, at the same time, it's sometimes too embarrassing to watch the way Tang Gunak unconsciously acted around Chung Myung in private.
Tang Bo narrows his eyes. It's been more than a lifetime, surely his feelings will reach Chung Myung faster than his father's does. Right??

i keep seeing people getting a little confused about the titles and terms used in rotbb so i thought id make a quick little guide on the more common titles and pre/suffixes used in the novel/manhwa
for minor context, members of a sect may take on the names that denote which generation they come from within the sect (current mount hua consists of, in order from eldest to youngest, the hyun line, the un line, the baek line, and the chung line, though the true generational naming convention would have typically been chung > myung > hyun > un > baek, which would then repeat in a cycle) however taking on a generational name isnt necessarily required/enforced (ex. yu iseol, yoon jong, jo gul, etc do not take on generational names)
in his previous life, because chung myung was raised in the sect since infancy, he took on the chung generational name as his ‘birth’ name, as the chung line was the generation he was raised in. when he reenters mount hua post resurrection, he becomes a third class disciple, aka the current era chung disciples
TITLES
jangmun: sect leader, jangmun'in is used when speaking directly to the sect leader (ex. hyun jong, chung mun)
sasuk: senior martial brother, used by disciples of a different rank to senior disciples of higher ranking (ex. the chung disciples referring to the baek disciples, the baek/chung disciples referring to the un disciples)
sajil: junior martial brother, used by disciples of a different rank to junior disciples of a lower ranking (ex. the un disciples referring to the baek/chung disciples, the baek disciples referring to the chung disciples)
sasukjo: great martial uncle, used by disciples referring to the line above sasuk
sajo: martial grandparent/ancestor
sason: martial grandchild/descendant
sahyung: senior martial brother, used by disciples within the same rank to disciples who entered the sect earlier than them (aka chung myung referring to the elder chung disciples, chung disciples referring to yoon jong)
sajae: junior martial brother, used by disciples within the same rank to disciples who entered the sect after them (ex. the chung disciples referring to the chung disciples)
sajeo: senior martial sister, same as sahyung but used for women
sago: senior martial sister, same as sasuk but used for women (ex. tang soso referring to yu iseol)
samae: junior martial sister, same as sajae but used for women (ex. baek cheon referring to yu iseol)
dojang: disciple (ex. older characters use this to refer to chung myung/disciples of a sect)
hyung: meaning older brother, used by males when referring to their older brother or to an older male colleague one is friendly with
hyeonja-bae: referring to the hyun generation
unja-bae: referring to the un generation
baekja-bae: referring to the baek generation
cheongja-bae: referring to the chung generation
maehwa geomjon: plum blossom sword saint
hwasan shinryong: mount huas divine dragon
amjon/amzone: dark saint
maknae: used to refer to the youngest person in a group of people
PRE/SUFFIXES
-ah: a suffix that denotes casual familiarity typically used for those who are younger than the speaker or are of the same social standing, used at the end of a name if the name ends in a consonant (ex. hyun jong calls chung myung ‘chung myung'ah’)
-ya: a suffix that denotes casual familiarity typically used for those who are younger than the speaker or are of the same social standing, used at the end of a name if the name ends in a vowel (ex. chung myung calls tang bo ‘tang bo'ya’)
-nim: a respectful suffix that essentially means mr/mrs/miss
dosa: meaning taoist (ex. tang bo typically refers to chung myung as hyung nim/dosa hyung/dosa hyung nim)
-jon: a title given to martial artists who have mastered their respective martial arts perfectly, the most honourable title a warrior could get, translated to as ‘saint’ in the novel or 'supreme' in the manhwa (ex. plum blossom sword saint, dark saint)
please keep in mind however im not fluent in korean nor am i fully familiar w these terms of address and am using my knowledge of chinese honorifics and titles as they follow a similar formula.. if ive mislabeled something or used an unfaithful/misleading description, or if you just have more to add that i havent listed, please lmk!

Beginning of the fanfic I'm writing where Tang Bo has also reincarnated! I'm pretty much rewriting the novel, but with Tang Bo! Leave comments if u think it should go on ao3 with the rest of it!
It's quite long right now, but I hope you enjoy!
Being reborn into the Tang family to a body around 7 had to have been just his luck. If Tang bo knew that reincarnation was what would happen after death, he would have been more prepared. With the surprise of being alive again, he pushed that aside to train as much as possible in his hidden weapon techniques. The elders were useless and all the techniques they lost during the war, Tang Bo was steadily trying to bring back.
Long nights left unwanted thoughts to arise, of how he was truly alone in this world. Cheongmyeong was dead and so was everyone he once knew. The fact that when he asked about the war and someone said Mount Hua was in a decline was more than proof his old lover was dead. Tang Bo had decided to try and sneak glances at Mount Hua to maybe try and keep them from closing completely, that was the least he could do.
This all led to Tang Bo putting on a dark cloak and accompanying Tang Gunak and a few of his ‘brothers’ to see if the divine dragon was truly a problem. Something about a merchant’s son from Mount Hua had beaten two of his brothers and the divine dragon had mentioned the secret technique of twelve daggers. He vaguely remembers spilling all the secret techniques of the Tang family to Cheongmyung.
In reality he wanted to check the one with the name of his old love if he's honest. The news of Mount Hua starting to climb back up by the hands of one kid wasn't that big of a deal to Tang Bo. Even beating all second disciples of Zhongnan. Sure he was happy that Dosa Hyung-nim’s sect was growing back but the name of the kid changed everything. There was a slight flicker of hope that what happened to him happened the same to Cheongmyung.
He watched the Tang family’s lord talk, mostly spacing out. There was a tingling sensation on his skin. He was honestly excited to meet the Divine Dragon. Maybe it would be him. Tang Bo has nothing to lose in this, there's no point checking but the idea that he might have reincarnated made him giddy.
A voice quickly snapped him out of his daze, “Hey, old man. You've got a really weird personality.”
Tang bo knew that voice, he looked up immediately and as if the heaven was playing jokes on him, the bright blue sky made him look heavenly. The face was too similar, the nose, the grin, the expression, the voice. There was no mistaking it. It had to have been. How lucky was Tang Bo.
The rest of the conversation was muffled as he stared right at Cheongmyeong. He had landed near Tang Bo, his back was turned towards him as he spoke to the head. Tang Bo had ignored the pressing qi from Tang Gunak, moving closer to Cheongmyeong reaching out to grab his shoulder before he was startled by the sudden yell.
“ENOUGH!!!!”
Four people ran and placed themselves in front of Cheongmyeong as if defending him from Tang Gunak, Tang Bo gritted his teeth and took a step near the Tang Family head so he could see Cheongmyeong’s face. It was the same as he remembered all those years ago.
Bows from all four Mount Hua disciples, all at the same time, was honestly kind of impressive. The front one was wearing white compared to the rest so he must have been the eldest. The words of him being the Righteous Sword actually fit this kid well. He was quite handsome and he spoke like a melody.
The Righteous Sword mumbled about taking punishment for Cheongmyeong's actions. It honestly made Tang Bo snort in laughter but, that must have been strange to everyone else since they all turned to look at him as if just noticing him.
“What's so funny? Something you want to share?” Cheongmyeong stopped talking as soon as they met with their eyes. An indescribable expression clouded his face, eyes seemed to be glassy as if he was looking at a memory. Everything went silent, you could hear a pin drop before Cheongmyeong's face changed to anger.
“...bo-ya, wait..?”
“Dosa Hyung-nim?” Tang Bo said hesitantly as if testing the waters, that anger seemed to spike as Cheongmyeong clenched his fist. He started walking forward towards Tang-Bo, a smile on his face but it was obvious to everyone that he was mad.
“-you!” The Disciples quickly placed themselves in front of Cheongmyeong again to stop him from beating up an unknown Tang member
“Hyung-?” The Righteous Sword looked at Tang Bo then at Cheongmyeong and then back. Even Tang Gunak hadn't said anything yet, “What's your name?
“Tang Bo, it's nice to meet other Mount Hua disciples,” He slightly bowed his head before looking back up,”and you?”
“Baek Cheon, it's an honor as well” Baek Cheon turned around to Cheongmyeong, “You know him?”
With gritted teeth, Cheongmyeong stared right at Tang Bo, “Yes, I do. You guys can talk later” he turned towards Tang Gunak
“I agree, it's time to truly test what I came here for. I intend to see whether you are truly devoid of substance or unfathomable in its depth”
Watching the two of them walk away from the group, the killing intent from Tang Gunak only seemed to increase with every step. Yet Tang Bo didn't feel nervous or scared because he was more excited to speak with him after Tang Gunak got defeated. It wasn't that he thought of the head like the elders. If anything Tang Gunak felt like Tang Bo's grandson and nothing negative, really. Just that he knew with Cheongmyeong, Tang Gunak would put up a good fight with his hidden weapons but the fight's end was already set in stone.
Tang Bo glanced at the four standing near him and smiled before speaking, “Baek Cheon, was it? I see you're more impressive than your rumors state”
It was obvious by the red tip of the other person’s ears that being nice was the right choice
“-Ah thank you, it's just strange that you were once friends with Cheongmyung. The way you referred to him caught me off guard” Baek Cheon spoke with a fluidity that would charm anyone. He truly was fit for his title.
“Enough with the pleasantries, I'm sure we’ll be seeing each other much more”
It was as if all rigid movement bleed from Baek as a strained smile stayed on his face, “Oh? Why's that?”
That sentence made him chuckle. There was no way he was just gonna let Cheongmyung run off around without him by his side. His attention was brought to the other three standing behind Baek Cheon watching the so-called spar. If Cheongmyung was helping them then it would be nice to get to know them all.
“And you three are?”
“Yunjong”
“.. Yoo Iseol”
“Jo Gul”
Tang bo perked up when he heard the last name, “Jo Gul..? Ah, you’re the one who had fought two of my siblings and won. I’m curious to see your strength as well if the spar doesn’t take too long.”
“Yes, that was me.. although I hope that there's no hard feelings but, what do you mean not take too long? Do you already know who will win?”
“None at all and… yes, it's clear who will win this battle” That wasn't a lie, the two that got beat had no relation to him or importance. Seeing the Tang Family this weak did make him a little annoyed but that wasn't the fault of the disciples in front of him. Jo Gul put his hands on his face sighing,”So it’ll be for nothing-”
Tang Bo snapped back towards Jo Gul, raising his eyebrow “What do you mean? Dosa Hyung-nim is going to win”
Everyone's attention was quickly brought back on the spar as Cheongmyeong was pushed into a sticky situation. The dagger going right at his face caused Jo Gul to yell out only to be held back by Baek Cheon. Screaming and yelling about murder. The sight of Cheongmyung catching the dagger with his teeth made him smile as he brought his attention to Jo Gul who had calmed down.
“Eighth strike, you have two left. Make it count.”
Watching the rest of the two attacks was strange, it was like watching a memory. The movement of Cheongmyeong was almost the same as back then. Watching him jump and swing his blade right at the shoulder of the head of the Tang family, Tang Bo had started walking closer. The duel was done and decided. It was only when something shone from the corner of his eye as it flew through the air landing and planting itself into the side of Cheongmyeong's stomach.
Tang bo was the first who made it to Tang Pae, immediately grabbing the arm that had thrown that forsaken dagger. With a quick move, the arm snapped, a scream pierced the air as Tang Pae crumbled in front of him.
“..how dare you-.. who do you-..” He felt anger bubbling up to the surface, his grip tightened no doubt causing the broken bone to rub against each other. He swiftly grabbed a dagger and with one quick movement went to end the life of that pathetic-
“TANG BO!” He turned towards Tang Gunak who was looking right at him, “Tang Pae will deal with the consequences” Tang Bo dropped Pae's hand before walking over to where Baek Cheon had lifted Cheongmyeong up to bring him back to the Tang estate.
---------
Waking up for Cheongmyeong felt like he was swimming through a deep ocean, there was someone talking to him. It was muffled but he recognized the voice just couldn't place who.
He blinked slowly as he sat up, a tingling of pain near the side of his hip. Immediately the four on the ground were the first thing he noticed. He scoffed but a small smile threatened to break through on his lips. He truly cared for the four and it was nice to know they were the same.
“Dosa Hyung-nim?” That very word repeated through his head as he searched the room for the one who was responsible. There by the closed door was someone he thought he would never see again. Memories pushed to resurface of that last meeting between the two.
[]
“Will you marry me?”
“Ask that again when I bring you to the medics! Just- wait”
“Dosa, will you marry me”
“...” Cheongmyung desperately grabbed onto Tang Bo’s clothes, dipping his head down to the others face before placing a gentle kiss on Tang Bo's lips, “of course I will”
Tears dripped down Tang Bo's face as his smile widened. It took every energy left in his body to smile. Cheongmyung shakily cradled his lover to his chest. Tears flowed from his eyes before he screamed and screamed and screamed until his throat was torn. There is nothing he could do except promise to end this war.
[]
He carefully got off the bed and walked towards Tang Bo, his fist tightened into a fist as he walked closer to him. A smile on his face but, he definitely wasn't happy.
“‘Dosa Hyung-nim’ that's it? Just ‘Dosa Hyung-nim’. Did you want to die again today? Did you think I would be so happy to see you, I would forget that you broke your promise”
“Ah! Nonono Come on don't-” Tang Bo waved his hands as he backed up from Cheongmyeong who was quickly approaching.
“I didn't think it was actually you! Being reincarnated is strange by itself and you too I just- Wait! Don't hit me!” Tang Bo continued to ramble before he felt a tight grip on one of his wrists before he was pulled into a hug.
“Shut up, brat” Cheongmyeong mumbled as he hugged his lover, Tang Bo took a second before hugging Cheongmyeong back. A smile slowly making its way on his face, he could feel the way the other trembled and shaken with fear. It only made Tang Bo hug him tighter, tears running down his face. He could feel how his lover gripped his clothes desperately as if trying to find out if he was truly here. Tang Bo never thought he would see Cheongmyung again.
It only lasted a few seconds but felt like eternity to Tang Bo. He looked Cheongmyeong up and down when they let go. The Pink eyes he loved were glassy and sad. Tang Bo cupped Cheongmyeong's face placing a kiss on his cheeks then to his forehead then to his nose and at last his lips. He truly looked similar to his past life even though Tang Bo had never met him when he was a kid, he could definitely see the resemblance between the two.
He had wanted to stay in that hug forever. It was the first time since he reincarnated that he felt not completely alone in this.
“If I knew you were so clingy. I would've jumped for the chance every time!” There was one swift movement as a fist hit his head, Tang Bo reached up rubbing the top of his head before throwing his arm over Cheongmyung’s shoulder bringing him closer, it wasn't hard to notice the pink decorating his cheeks from this close “Come on I was just kidding”
“You never knew when to shut up” Cheongmyung scoffed before glancing back at the four by the end of the bed, Tang Bo used his sleeve to rub his eyes from the tears earlier.
“Oh! By the way, the way they protected you was kinda sweet, ripping cloth out of people’s hands to do it themselves. Eventually the current head had to press pressure points to safely get them to sleep. It's nice to see other people can manage to put up with y-”
WHACK
“Owowowow, Dosa Hyung-nim- why are you so mean? You don’t understand how hard it is to stay here. The elders try to control everything and they’re relying on poison, againnn. Tang Gunak has my daggers also so it's not like I can get those back and they made rules that the disciples aren’t even allowed to leave the sect without permission”
“Yeah yeah” Cheongmyung waved him off before blinking for a few seconds and looking back at Tang Bo, “Your family has always had that rule, you just didn’t listen”
“Oh right..”
Cheongmyung looked around before walking towards the door and opening it, “Aren’t you gonna take me to see Tang Gunak, Bo-ya? I would rather get this robbe-” He coughed before finishing his sentence, “compensation dealt with”
Tang Bo dragged his feet as he walked alongside Cheongmyung, “Can’t it wait? They don’t exactly know I’m here, ‘checking up’ on you and wouldn’t you rather go get some alcohol and just relax”
Cheongmyung rolled his eyes and took a step forward with Tang Bo hanging off the side of him. He never minded the physical touch from Tang Bo since it wasn’t like non harmful physical touch from someone was common in his past life other than his Sasuk and Tang Bo.
It wasn’t long until his eyes immediately locked on the person they were just talking about. Tang Gunak was walking this way and was only a few steps away. Tang Bo from next to him, let go of Cheongmyung with a grumble but suddenly grabbed Cheongmyung's arm and dragged him back into the room.
“..huh?”
Tang Bo opened up the window inside of the room as he pulled Cheongmyung with him. Sliding easily out of the window.
“Come on! You can always talk to him later, let's go to our favorite drinking spot!”
With a smile, Cheongmyung followed along where Tang Bo led him. It was a forgotten path filled with weeds but he knew every step of it like muscle memory. At some point in the stroll, their hands intertwined. Whether it was Tang Bo who started it or Cheongmyung. Neither would answer, only knowing that they walked side by side together.
When they got to the pavilion, it was dusty and cracked by the weather. Nothing like how it had looked 100 years ago. But it was better than nothing. The two sat down across from each other just like they used to.
“You better have actually brought alcohol if you wanted to drag me all the way out here”
“Yes, yes” Tang Bo set down two bottles, out of his robe, placing both on the table in front of them with a smile. Almost right after he pulled out a small wooden box and slid it over to Cheongmyung who had already poured himself a drink.
“Hm? What's this?” When he opened it, the first thing he saw was a green stone. It was surrounded by yellowish gold. Cheongmyung immediately looked up at Tang Bo. His hands shook as he tried to come up with a clear thought.
“I had them prepared a long time ago and I had already asked Cheong Mun first of course!,” a gentle smile replaced the look on Tang Bo's face, “if I'm being honest, this was the place I had wanted to ask you. When I was reincarnated, I checked and they were untouched in the spot I had left them. So I'll ask you again, this time at the right time”
Cheongmyung held the box tightly in his hands, yet gentle as if the ring would break with a touch from him. His brows furrowed in thought. Listening intently to Tang Bo.
“Will you marry me, Cheongmyung, the 13th generation disciple of Mount Hua?”
For a second, everything went quiet. Cheongmyung slowly stood up before moving around the table. Before Tang Bo could react, he grabbed Tang Bo to bring him closer before pressing a kiss to his lips. He licked his lips after they parted and he finally answered, “Of course I will”
Tang Bo pulled Cheongmyung back towards him, hands gripping the uniform he wore. As he was desperate just to have the touch of the other. Kiss after kiss after kiss, when it calmed back down. Tang Bo looked at Cheongmyung’s face with a slight chuckle, his cheeks were red and his lips were slightly swollen. It was a beautiful sight.
Flustered by all the attention that Tang Bo was giving him, he looked away mumbling, “What about your ring?”
“It's similar to yours, just a different stone!” He pulled out another small bow and opened it up, Tang Bo was right. The ring was the same but the stone was a deep pink.
“Look, it matches your eyes” He held it up to Cheongmyung’s eyes before reaching across the table and grabbing the ring he had made for Cheongmyung while using his other hand to grab Cheongmyung’s hand. He carefully slipped the ring on his middle finger and then on his own with a huge smile. The ring was a little big but not enough where it would fall off for both of them.
Tang Bo poured two cups of the sake he brought and pushed on the Cheongmyung, who had sat down next to him
“To celebrate?”
“To celebrate.”
They both brought it to their lips, taking a large gulp before Tang Bo flopped over onto Cheongmyung.
Resting his head on the other’s thighs as a pillow. Looking up at Cheongmyung who was looking down right at him, his hair falling to the side and tickling Tang Bo’s cheeks.
“You sure seem to get comfortable fast. There’s still alot to decide, you know.”
“All of that can wait! I’m busy with my husband”
Cheongmyung’s cheeks flushed pink at the word Tang Bo used,
“What? Are you flustered because I called you my husband?”
“...”
“My lover. My husband. My friend. My partner. My true love”
BANG
Cheongmyung pushed his hand to push Tang Bo off his lap, as he fell, his hand was brought up to cover his mouth. His cheeks burned redder at the very second.
“Ow-! You’re so mean”

Notes I Pure fluff maybe + chung myung content ?!?! woah.. keep in mind that this is not edited and checked :3
Chung Myung will never let you live this down. No way. Especially when he, quite literally, had you pinned down. "Give up yet?" He asks, his tone teasing as he looks down at you with that shit-eating grin he knows you have a hate-love relationship with. God, you want to wipe that grin off his face so bad. "Love," You start, your tone seemingly pleading as you look up at him. The one and only Mount Hua's Divine Dragon, Chung Myung, swore he could explode at any given moment. And while that normally is a threat to the other disciples, it means something else now. Slowly but surely, you lean closer to him. You then pout, "Please.." A kiss, then you turn the tables on him. For a split second, he was caught off-guard with that kiss; you didn't waste any time switching your positions. How cute he looks when he's under you. "I'll kiss you, okay? So please, keep your voice down."
Notes II Chung Myung deserves all of the kisses and hugs in the world.

Mount Hua's Divine Dragon. That's what Cheong Myeong's title became after the contest between Zhongnan and Mount Hua. I never thought about who gave CM his first title. I just assumed it manifested into existence.
And then later in the novel, Jin Geumryong refers to CM as the Divine Dragon. CM is confused because has a new title that has been used more commonly. Jin Geumryong is so nonchalant as he says that he bestowed the name "Divine Dragon" to CM so of course he's going to keep referring to CM as Divine Dragon.
So there was a reason he was dubbed as the Divine Dragon, right? He beat Jin Geumryong, whose namesake was dragon. How did I miss that? Were there clues I overlooked? I just never thought about how he got the title, other than it was because he defeated the second-grade Zhongnan disciples.

Just saw a picture of divine dragon chung myung before he got that title and it really hit me how small Cho Sam's body was when chung myung came back. This little thought has spoilers for chapter 400+ (I think anyway) and vague spoilers for everything past ch 400 until like. Ch 800
GOD OK so we as the reader understand chung myungs situation very very intimately. WE understand that he is an 80+ year old man mentally. WE understand that he is not in fact 15, then 17, then 19, 20, etc. Everyone around him, however, truly believe that he is those ages.
It's brushed upon multiple times throughout the novel, especially whenever chung myung is down for the count/recovering after a fight. The facade he makes around himself, the strong reliable leader, fades away and the "truth" of who he is reinstates itself to those close to him in this second life. His back, every time he wavers, is described as small. This is always through the perspective of anyone but himself. This is even more apparent whenever he is unconscious after a serious fight. I don't know exactly chapters, but i KNOW that baek cheon (and the rest of the 5 swords plus soso and hye yeon), at least once, has had the reality of Chung myungs apparent age dawn upon them. That they're youngest sajae (sahyung in soso's case) is constantly spilling his own blood to protect them. (This fact is straight up said by yu iseol after the particularly bad fight with Jang ilso, spitting her frustration with only getting in chung myungs way instead of protecting him).
This phenomenon is hardly limited to the main group of disciples. After the first myriad men siege on Mount hua (while The Gang is in Xian), everyone subconsciously gains courage with the thought that soon enough chung myung will come, that he'll protect them. The disciples (soso being the most prevalent since she's one of the main disciples focused on in the novel) of course correct this thought, realizing that they cannot rely on chung myung forever. Anyways moving on from just describing this arc. What I mainly want to focus on is Hyun jong and chung myungs interaction AFTER the siege is finished, after un gum is fresh off of his amputation, after chung myung has barely gotten treatment for his own (quite serious) injuries.
What do you think when through Hyun jong's mind, seeing his youngest disciple, the one who brought back the hope that had almost died out with his sect, ruthlessly kill the enemy, return heavily wounded, and then try to sneak out almost immediately to go back to smite those who have harmed his home? To us, Chung myung is more than capable. He's the plum blossom sword Saint, the one who (even with all the regret he holds over this) severed the head of the heavenly demon. He's an 80+ year old man trying to protect the only thing besides bloodshed that is familiar in this second life. We understand the guilt he has over not being able to protect his home the first time. We understand that he would rather die than allow Mount Hua to fall again.
Hyun jong does not know this. He does not understand chung myungs rage (and guilt and grief and longing and-). He looks at chung myung and sees an 18 or 19 (I don't remember) year old boy, covered in wounds, trying to sneak out of his home on a suicide mission of revenge. He sees a boy. He knows that if he let's this boy go, he will never see him alive again. So he uses chung myungs borderline (who are we kidding, it is way past borderline) unhealthy loyalty with mount hua to dissuade him from walking to his death.
ANYWAYS long story not so short, I need need need more analysis over what everyone but chung myung thinks about him. Everyone sees this young teen, then young adult, bend over backwards to the point where he has almost died so so so many times just so mount hua can flourish. They've seen him kill ruthlessly, they've seen him sob over the skeleton of an ancestor (one of his brothers, a reminder of what he has lost, what he will never get back), they've seen him silly and carefree, they've seen him almost mad with bloodlust.
To us, he is chung myung, the old plum blossom sword Saint, slayer of the heavenly demon. To them, he is chung myung, the scrawny 15 year old that changed their lives, that faces unknown traumas, that has had a life so, so unkind to him.
Sometimes I look at chung myung pre time skip, how small he is, how he looks like a child, how he acts nothing like one, and remember that only we, the readers, get the full context behind his actions.

Hiii, first of all I love all your posts about Erlang, since the game came out I've taken a huge interest in him and I love to read your posts, they are extremely interesting and helpful as someone who loves to learn new things! So thanks a lot for that <3
Anyway I wanted to ask, is there any record of Erlang having a wife or something like that? I've read somewhere before that he was supposedly betrothed to a dragon princess?? (Something like that I don't really remember when or where I read it) And also, in the movie "New Gods: Yang Jian" when Yang Jian is at the casino ambushed by the three monkeys, the little monkey mentioned something like he had abandoned his wife or something similar to that? (I might be wrong here since the site where I watched the movie didn't have the best subtitles available, only good enough to understand the plot).
So I was wondering if you know something about that perhaps? (Btw I'm sorry if there are any grammar mistakes, English is not my first language <3)
Thank you! I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my ramblings 😊
To answer your question, no, Erlang Shen does not have a wife or a partner in Chinese mythology. The only source linking him with a dragon princess is The Lotus Lantern TV series, which is more or less a fantasy romcom. Personally, I always feel that assigning every deity a love story is unnecessary and out of character. In New Gods: Yang Jian, the monkeys were referencing the rumor that Erlang Shen abandoned his sister beneath Mount Hua 12 years ago. Erlang didn’t bother explaining himself to them, perhaps because he didn't care about being misunderstood by those who didn’t matter to him. It might also reflect Erlang's self-imposed exile, driven by the guilt over his inability to save his sister when she chose to sacrifice herself for the mortal world.
If we were to make up a partner for Erlang, the dragon princess would still be a poor choice. Erlang Shen’s lore is closely associated with the flood myth, water taming, and, by extension, dragon slaying or subduing. On that note, there’s actually a tale in which Erlang Shen disguises himself as a beautiful woman betrothed to an evil dragon prince. He kills the dragon prince at their wedding banquet, saving the nearby villages from recurring floods.
One unexpected yet fitting adaptation appears in The Legend of Nezha, where a romantic subplot is added between Yang Jian and the mountain spirit (山鬼), a mythological figure tied to a legendary mountain near Sichuan. Following the plot of The Investiture of the Gods, the series concludes with Yang Jian declining the offer to serve in the new court and returning to the mountains, where he and the mountain spirit transform into birds and disappear into the woods. From a characterization standpoint, it is in character for Erlang Shen to step away from power hierarchies and be drawn instead to the untamed world.
Ultimately, Erlang Shen is never depicted with a partner in canonical lore. This might be because he is already a powerful figure with extensive stories of his own, making the addition of a complementary character unnecessary for enriching his narrative. He’s also canonically a young adult, with an apparent age ranging from 16 to 26. This places him forever at the cusp of adulthood—old enough to possess strength and independence, yet unbound by familial or societal responsibilities. It’s a phase of life defined by exploration and self-discovery, free from the constraints of a prescribed role in the worldly system.
I think there's a collective desire among humans to envision certain deities, like Erlang Shen, as unbound young adults, for they embody the idealized traits we often associate with youth—carefree, open-minded, daring, idealistic, hopeful, and full of aspiration. Please indulge me as I end with excerpts from The Song for the Divine Lord (《神君歌》) by Lu You (陆游,1174 C.E.), a tribute poem for Erlang Shen that captures this sentiment:
Great Mount Tai could serve as a whetstone, The Eastern Sea could turn to dust over time. Only the brave one's unyielding will Strives forth through life and death. 泰山可为砺 东海可扬尘 惟有壮士志 死生要一伸 I dream of the Divine Lord descending from the celestial realm, So majestic, too sublime to fully capture. Flying loongs pull his chariot, with no steeds needed. Ghosts and spirits attend him, before and behind his stride. 我梦神君自天下 威仪奕奕难具陈 飞龙驾车不用马 诃前殿后皆鬼神 ... The mortal world is constrained, steeped in sorrow and pain, Yet the Divine Lord rejoices across endless springs. O to live uncrowned and die unhonored—what of it? True ones must not bear their aspirations in silence! 世间局促常悲辛 神君欢乐千万春 呜呼生不封侯死庙食 丈夫岂得抱志长默默
Of note, this poem was written at a temple honoring men who died defending against the Jin invasion. The sorrow and pain in Lu You’s verse reflect the turmoil of his era, marked by war and loss. His resilience and lifelong aspiration to reclaim lost lands draw from the idealism embodied by Erlang Shen.

The way that Erlang's parents meet and how his mother is rescued varies a lot across traditional storytelling as seen on stage and in recitation. I'll list out the versions I found:
Taiping Geci Recitation: "Splitting the Mountain to Save Mother"/"劈山救母". Erlang lives in Heaven and spends his days hunting. He shoots down a pair of phoenixes and his grandfather the Jade Emperor rewards him with divine liquor. He falls asleep and dreams of his mother, causing him to ask the JE what happened to her. The JE weeps in shame and asks Erlang to seek out the Queen Mother of the West. She tells him that his mother married a mortal, and after having a son, washed the baby's diapers and polluted the seas. Heaven's armies were sent to capture her, but Sun Wukong shut her under Mount Tao. Erlang goes to Taishang Laojun, who tells him about Pan Gu's axe. Erlang goes into the mortal world and finds the axe has gained sentience as a demon. he defeats it and chops open Mount Tao to save his mother.
Bangzi Opera, Cantonese Opera, and Drum Recitations: "Third Princess Goes to the Mortal World"/"三姐下凡". The JE's daughters all go down to the mortal world to view festival lights. Erlang's mother meets his father and falls in love. She escapes from her chaperone, the divine general Hua Guang, and recruits the local Tudi couple to be her foster parents so she can marry Scholar Yang. She gives birth to Erlang, but the JE finds her and sends various gods to capture her. She fights all of them off except Guan Yin, who persuades her to surrender herself. JE imprisons her in the Heavenly Dungeon, where she gives birth to her daughter. Erlang grows up in the mortal world with his father and is teased by his classmates over having no mother. His father tells him about his mother's imprisonment and he goes off to rescue her. Erlang acquires divine arts, weapons, armor, and a horse from the immortal Yuding. He heads up to Heaven, where QMW warns him that JE will send out multiple trials to test his willpower. He'll need to carry two great mountains on his shoulders to capture the 12 suns standing guard over the prison. He does so and frees his mother and sister, and his sister helps him attack JE's palace and force him to agree to pardon their mother.
Han Opera: "Taoshan Cave"/"桃山洞". Erlang's mother falls in lover with a mortal after realizing they're fated to marry. Unfortunately, Yuan Hong's (the monkey demon from FSYY) sister also believes she's fated to marry Scholar Yang. Erlang's mother recruits the local Tudi to help her do some tricks with an old tree that gets Scholar Yang to agree to marry her. Sometime after their wedding the monkey demoness attacks and tries to abduct Scholar Yang. Erlang's mother fights them off and carves her name onto the demoness's face. The demoness runs back to her brother, who attacks Erlang's parents in revenge, but is also beaten back, and during their battle, Erlang's mother brags about her name. Yuan Hong reports her to Heaven and gets help from the Dragon Kings and other gods to capture her. Erlang's mother entrusts her baby son to Taishang Laojun, and the united forces of demonic immortals and gods capture her. Yuan Hong shuts her beneath Mount Tao, where she gives birth to a daughter. Erlang grows up with Yuding. He eats special ox, tiger, and dragon buns, as well as peaches of immortality, then bathes in a mortality-shedding pool to gain his powers. He arms himself and goes to Mount Tao, where he defeats the demons and his dog kills the monkey demoness. He rescues his mother and sister and they head home to reunite with their father.
Puxian Opera: "Third Princess Goes to the Mortal World"/"三姐下凡". Basically the same as Han Opera, except Erlang's mother's rival is a dragon princess. Erlang is considered a freak by his father for having three eyes and given over to Yuding. After Erlang's mother mutilates her rival, the Dragon Kings fight her and imprison her under Mount Tao. Erlang's father is abducted and imprisoned under the sea for refusing to marry the mutilated dragon princess. Erlang grows up and besieges the Dragon Palace. The mutilated princess's younger sister comes out to fight him and they fall in love. She makes peace between him and her family and they free his father. Erlang goes to Mount Tao, where he frees his mother and sister. Their family is reunited.
Hunan Huagu Opera: "Zhang's Second Girl Goes to the Mortal World"/“张二姐下凡". Erlang's mother is the Second Heavenly Princess. She reads some Heavenly Scrolls and notices that two gods are yet to be born and decides to be the one who gives birth to them. She picks as her husband Scholar Yang, who's already married to a woman named Zhao Meirong. She takes Meirong's form and tricks Scholar Yang into believing Meirong is a demon. Meirong goes home to her father and brothers, who are outlaws that rule a certain mountain. Her father has Taoist arts and lights special incense to summon the gods and report this strange matter. The gods discover the Second Princess's identity, but even after having her children, she refuses to leave because she's truly fallen in love with her mortal husband. She is captured and shut under Mount Tao. Erlang is abandoned in the mountains and saved by Yuding. The second part is called "Splitting the Moutain to Save Mother"/"劈山救母". When Erlang grows up, Yuding sends him to a renowned swordsmith couple to forge him a blade that can split mountains. The raw material must be the Ox-King's horn and the fuel must be the essence of golden coal from Mount Mei. Erlang takes the form of the Jade-faced Fox, seduces the Ox-King, and saws off a horn while he's drunk. He then fights the spirit of the Golden Coal. She falls in love with him and willingly sacrifices her essence to fuel the forge. Erlang splits the mountain and saves his mother.
Teochow Opera: "Third Princess Goes to the Mortal World"/"三姐下凡". Erlang's mother goes to Earth to fight a three-headed demon dragon and his lackey, a dog demon. She falls in love with Scholar Yang in the process and takes the form of a huntress to marry him. They have a son. She is summoned back by Heaven and imprisoned under Mount Tao for forgetting her mission. Like in the Lotus Lantern stories, Erlang's father remarries and has another son. The brothers kill a classmate by accident. Erlang's brother is handed to the authorities while Erlang escapes and studies the immortal arts. He finds the very demons his mother was hunting now have their base over her prison. He defeats the dragon, turning him into his spear, then defeats the dog and turns him into his pet. He frees his mother and discovers he has a sister.
Thank you! I'm not familiar with operas at all, so this is a valuable list to people who want to know more about the other variants of Erlang's mom-saving stories out there, outside the premodern ones from the Lotus Lantern Summaries!

HI TINN ITS ME PITTY 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️
i was wondering if youre still open for prompts… and if u are can you write about pbss somehow tranported to current mount hua, and everyone is confused af and just watches pbss and divine dragon interact (and maybe argue) with each other
PITTY HELLO ♥✨♥✨♥ yes i'm always open to prompts !!! im literally rotating rotmhs in my head 24/7
this first half was actually born from another prompt by mei on discord but I want to build on it, so dumping it here 👍 HAHAHA
»—————————–✄
The Plum Blossom Sword Saint lets out a ragged breath, his vision rapidly fading. His sword falls from his hand and soon after his body follows.
"...Mount Hua..." he mumbles, aware that the only thing left that awaited him was the cold claim of death.
He dies. And in the next second, he blinks up to a clear sky, the dead bodies that surrounded him gone.
%%%
Dawn had barely broken when an incessant banging against Mount Hua's gates and shouting started and broke the tranquil silence, rousing several disciples.
"OPEN UP!" Someone barks out from the other side. "Fuck. Fuck. Shit. Open this gate right now!!"
Un Am frowns at the lack of manners and respect being shown by the source of the shouting. He reaches the gate and pulls it open. It takes Un Am a bit of effort to ensure that his voice sounded cordial, "Hello, we aren't accepting any visitors this ear—"
Un Am cuts himself off as he takes note of the state of the man in front of him. The man's robes and face were crusted with dried blood despite a lack of any visible injury. That is, if one ignore his lack of an arm.
It still didn't explain the amount of blood he had on his body that was free from any wounds and visible scars.
The man's eyes were bloodshot and trembling. Un Am, even from afar, could tell that there was something deeply wrong with this man. He seemed unconscious of the way he emanated a manic aura; there was a charged sort of energy surrounded him that made an instinctive part of Un Am grip his sword handle in response.
The most notable and unexplainable part of the man, however, was the blood-stained plum blossom embroidered on his chest.
"Who...?" Un Am finds himself unable to react to the man's speed and freezes in place as the man grabs him by the lapels of his robe. He pulls Un Am towards himself and grits out,
"What. Happened. To. My Sect."
%%%
Baek Cheon was quickly ushered into the Sect Leader's residence the moment he returned with a few others from their last excursion to Xi'an.
"What's going on?" He asks.
Elder Un Geom, for a lack of a better word, looked harried. His face twists into a grimace. "It's a bit complicated..."
Baek Cheon doesn't know how he should feel about that response.
Surely, it couldn't be too terrible. After all, their sect was still standing and they did leave Chung Myung behind to stay on Mount Hua as he and the other chosen second-class disciples only had to deliver some goods and tokens to their subsect. Their youngest wouldn't let anything dangerous happen on his watch.
Baek Cheon tries to probe more information. "Before you pulled me away, Baek Sang mentioned something about a guest...?"
"We aren't quite sure of the specifics either, I'm afraid. But the man claims to be one of our ancestors from over a hundred years ago."
"An ancestor? Was he able to verify the claims?"
Un Geom nods. "I've never seen someone weild our plum blossom technique with as much power as he did."
If that was the case, then maybe their supposed ancestor could help them develop and improve their sword techniques even further by teaching them more about the skills that have been lost through time.
"Isn't that a good thing then?"
"It should be, but Chung Myung..."
Ah. Hearing those last three trailing words did not promise anything good.
When they finally opened the door to the Sect Leader's residence, they were greeted to the sight of a soulless Hyun Jong slumped against the wall, a freaked-out Yoon Jong who seemed to be torn between jumping into the fray and throwing himself out the window, and—
"WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO BEAT UP OUR ANCESTOR, YOU BRAT?!"
Their ancestor and Chung Myung pause in their positions as they both turned eerily similar pink gazes towards the two new entrants.
Chung Myung had the end of their ancestor's ponytail pulled towards him and scrunched up in his fists. His knee pressed against the older man's chest and neck while his jaw was unhinged as he was clearly attempting to bite the man's single arm.
Their ancestor in turn had his one hand closed around half of Chung Myung's face, trying to push him away. His legs were wrapped around Chung Myung's lower half in an inescapable hold and he seemed to have been gearing up for a headbutt before Baek Cheon and Un Geom interrupted them.
"You want me to call this brat my ancestor?!" Chung Myung shouts out as he renewed his attempts to bite the man by roughly grabbing onto the base of his ponytail.
"I'm one hundred years older than you!" Their ancestor grits out as he unashamedly bites Chung Myung's arm. "You disrespectful descendant! Back in my time—"
"'Back in my time', my ass!"
"You...!"
Off to the side, their current sect leader lets out a pitiful moan of mental pain. Baek Cheon would comfort him if he didn't feel the same amount of psychic damage as he watches his youngest sajil and ancestor continue their childish scuffle, rolling on the floor and uncaringly biting into each other like they were both five-year olds.
Later on, after tempers have cooled and everyone (read: Chung Myung and their ancestor) had managed to settle down into a tenuous truce, Hyun Jong turns a tired, but respectful nod towards the bruised man, "May we know this ancestor's identity?"
"Hm?" Said man absently rubs against the embroidered plum blossom on his new uniform. "Ah, I supposed you would know me as the Plum Blossom Sword Saint."
They would have expressed their shock and surpise, but they get easily distracted by Chung Myung's mocking scoff as he rolls his eyes in response.

come inflation, eggs, tangcheong?
🔞 whereas chung myung reincarnated into cho sam, tang bo finds himself reincarnated into a snake.
he doesn't gain cognition quickly, rather it comes to him in bits and pieces through memories of the fragrance of plum blossoms, glinting metal, and the taste of blood.
he's considered as one of the weirder spiritual animals within the beast palace alongside that annoying white furball. more than once, he thinks, they've thought of putting him down for good because of his volatile nature.
he knows they regret not doing it sooner when one of their guests from Mount Hua comes to their morning feast with a round belly that's not because of food and smelling disntinctly of wet soil and sex.
chung myung doesn't realize it but Tang Bo's come from the night before stained a part of his pants wet.
tang bo for his part curls contentedly around the shoulders of this Divine Dragon. he's glad that he figured out how to partially regain his human form by ingesting this human's qi and juices.
a few months later, chung myung nearly chokes the snake to death when he abruptly turns back into his human form mid-delivery of a dozen eggs.
